Just a snapshot to the right of my bed last night. I still haven't moved in and organized that side yet, but it looks nice in this light. Someone just sent me the cute stuffed dragon from my @amazon wishlist yesterday. It's really nice to get presents from strangers to brighten my darkness. I loved how the aurora borealis light/star projection light looked with the pink ostrich feathers. My amazing, talented artist friend @audragerasbiomedicalart painted the lungs with cherry blossoms that hangs on the wall. 🫁 This lamp was one of my best self-care investments. This Fan Went to the Inaugural Ball, Washington, DC, 1861! See it in now, in-person, at our new exhibition!

Object description: Lady's Fan, collapsible, hand-held, Pink silk blades with ostrich feathers at tips; ivory handle and slats; Silver sequins throughout--1979.41 Gift of Dan deNoyelles

This fan belonged to Mrs. James Sheridan of 119th Street and Lennox Avenue, New York City. She attended the Inaugural Ball held for Abraham Lincoln in Washington, D.C., March 4, 1861, and she had this fan with her. Her son, Douglas Sheridan, married Mary Adelaide deNoyelles of Haverstraw. The fan was passed down through the family before being given to the Historical Society of Rockland County.

Today, several Inaugural balls may be held around the capital on Inauguration Day, but in 1861, only one was held. A large, temporary hall was built specifically for the ball.

This object, like many of the historic objects posted here, comes from the HSRC collection.

It is one of the many items on view now as part of our current exhibition “UNIQUELY ROCKLAND-Important, Iconic & Oddball Objects from the HSRC Collection”

Lucille can be seen wearing this custom made blue ostrich feather vest on the covers of TV Star Parade (June 1968) and TV Radio Mirror (June 1971). She also wore this vest to a SHARE charity event that she attended with Dede and Gary. The vest was also featured in the book "For the Love of Lucy" by Ric Wyman.
