CS Sleepy Prompt One-Shots (2/?): “Those energy drinks really aren’t good for you.”

PART ONE | A03 | PART THREE

Emma’s stomach growled, breaking her concentration from the pages and photos laid out before her. The smell of garlic mingled with onions and lamb suddenly seemed to surround her, with a frown she stood from her position at the desk. Her back protested her movements joined shortly by her knees and her jaw.

Apparently, more time had passed than she’d initially thought. She reached for her drink on the far side of the desk, just a few more glances at the photos and she’d figure this case out. The can was empty.

“Of course,” Emma sighed, and walked out of her home office toward the kitchen for another drink. The smell of lamb was mixed with thyme and rosemary now, her stomach reminded her once more that a meal was becoming a need. But, she needed to figure out what was happening because she was the only saviour this town had.

Music greeted her as she entered the kitchen, a guitar and soft vocals, accompanied by the smooth singing of her pirate. She smiled as she watched him swaying and cooking, tears pricked at her eyes that they were able to have moments like this - perfect and so… domestic.

Maybe, one day, moments like this would not steal her breath. She wouldn’t be hit with the overwhelming feeling that this surreal moment was actually happening to her. She’d watched the town traumatised by snow monsters and travelled back in time to the moment her parents met, but those moments felt more real to her than the scene playing in front of her now.

Quickly, she shook the tears away and cleared her throat. The late nights and early mornings were clearly starting to play with her emotions. She crossed to the fridge, reaching for another Monster to get her through another evening of trying to figure out the newest threat to Storybrooke.

Before she could turn away from the fridge, Killian had appeared behind her, his arm wrapped around her waist and he tugged the drink from her hand in one fluid motion. He set the drink on the counter tsking in her ear, “those energy drinks really aren’t good for you.”

She spun around in his arms, “I am so close to figuring this out.”

“A real meal and some sleep will do more than that, that,” he scowled at the drink on the counter behind him, not bothering to finish his thought.

“I suppose that is my real meal?” She tried to look at what was cooking with doubtful suspicion, but her stomach growling gave her away.

“Aye,” Killian said with mock indignity before extracting himself and walking toward the range and placing a glass baking dish in the oven. “It’ll be shepherd’s pie and bed for you, Swan.”

“Killian, I need to…”

“You have forty-five minutes while this bakes and that will be all for the night,” his voice was sterner than he’d intended. But the dark circles under her eyes and the way she swayed on her feet destroyed him. She would work herself to death to protect this town she’d made her home. He sometimes felt that he was the only one that would protect her from the pain she could inflict on herself.

“Swan, you need to rest,” he said gently, a bit of apology and pleading in his eyes. “Please, love.”

“That’s not fair,” she pouted.

“I promise, I'll make it advantageous for you,” he smirked, waggling his eyebrows with playful suggestion.

I'm redesigning the cs wedding and no one can stop me

This is literally a royal wedding, the canon wedding was just not enough, we deserved more. There should have been a wedding EPISODE

Also in my design they get to have their entire wedding AND wedding night and Fiona lets them have it because I said so. No curse immediately after, no lives endangered until at least the morning after

First base is Emma's outfit. I didn't like her dress and I didn't like her hair

First of all she gets this dress

It's really pretty, it's not traditional (aka plain white), the sleeves have kinda swan vibes, she would feel so so pretty in this dress like she should

Next her hair. Emma has BEAUTIFUL hair and yet they felt the need to hide it all away in what was basically the Dark Swan bun during the wedding and for WHY

THIS HAIR. Her hair is still down and flowy and showing off how beautiful it is but the front of her hair won't distract from the dress as it's pulled back in the braid

Second base is Killian's outfit. I actually had no beef with his outfit because it was very suited to him but I just wanna change a couple details to match my theme

THIS TIE AND FLOWER THINGY TO MATCH THE RED ON EMMA'S DRESS

AND THESE EARRINGS

Third base is guest list. The cs wedding consisted entirely of extras for the sake of the song and that pisses me off. Here's a list of who wasn't there but should have been, feel free to add anyone I missed or critique my decisions

Killian's crew. He doesn't have alot of people that aren't Emma's family but he does have them, and he spent 200 years with them. They're his friends and they should be at his wedding

Tink

Belle (forgive me if she was there and I missed her)

Ariel

Liam II (he's literally Killian's only remaining family, please god let him go to the wedding)

Nemo

Also I think Granny was there but she definitely is in my design and she pinches Killian and Emma's cheeks because I said so

Home plate is venue. Y'all know what's about to go down

GIVE ME WEDDING ON THE JOLLY ROGER

I love Henry but dude! Shut your mouth! Killian's one and only venue suggestion got shot down immediately because of a stupid excuse. And it would have plenty of room for everyone if they didn't feel the need to perform a musical number mid wedding (I love the song so so much and I love the musical episode but the song was the entire wedding and I hate that)

They could decorate it all nice, they could put roses and ribbons everywhere, Emma could get ready in the captain's quarters

It could've been so much more magical than they made it so I fixed it and made it magical you're welcome✨️✨️

Okay watching season six is torture for my Rumbelle heart. (For context, i'm on s6e4 rn, so i can only talk about their relationship until that point.) Most importantly, i've always kept defending them, but now... i'm starting to think: How can they possibly end up together after this? Are the writers actually destroying Rumbelle like people have said all along? Is S6 just a retcon of their previous development?

But you know me, i'm always trying to find an in-universe explanation. And i think i found one that at least partly explains what's happening:

The baby is the worst thing that could have happened to Rumple and Belle.

Hear me out. I know the baby sounds like good news for them at first - a chance to start over as a family. But in reality, it just brings out the worst in both of them. Well, not objectively the worst, but traits that stop them from being together.

Aside from fear, Rumple's biggest motive has always been to protect his loved ones. That can lead him to doing the wrong thing because he would do anything to protect them. And with that baby on the way, his protectiveness is only going up. When he lived with his first son, he ruined their lives, so now he wants to be a better father for his second child. Although he loves Belle, Bae / his children have almost been the most important to him, probably because his own parents left him. So in summary, more than ever, he's doing everything to protect Belle and their baby - even if that means harming others or acting against Belle's wishes.

Belle, on the other hand, has been trying to put herself and her own feelings and needs first. Before that, she has tried to love Rumple despite everything, but now she's come to realise that - because of his trauma, and because he won't ever become a good person -, he has often ended up causing her harm, and she's still hurt by that. So even before the baby, she had decided to get away from him at least for some time, for her own sake. And now there's the baby. And like Rumple, like any mother, she would do anything to protect it. So she has to ask herself if having Rumple in their life is really the safest thing for them. Now, if nothing else had happened, she would have maybe come to the conclusion that she needed Rumple so he could protect them. But then there's Gideon disguised as Morpheus, visiting her in a dream and convincing her that because he would do anything to protect them, he will only cause them harm again. He speaks directly to her fears and wounds. So her still being hurt by everything Rumple has done and her wanting to protect her child are enhanced by what her unborn child tells her, leading he to a drastic conclusion that she maybe wouldn't have come to otherwise: She needs to keep herself and their baby away from Rumple.

So these two things - Rumple wanting to protect their child and Belle wanting to stay away from Rumple - clash in s6e4 and make each other worse. Especially because Rumple's protectiveness actually almost kills Belle and the baby, confirming her fears. With their strongest motives - both seperately being understandable - being so contradictory rn, they can't be together if there isn't a major change.

So my answer to the questions i mentioned above is: What's happening isn't bad character writing or a retcon, it actually makes sense. I'm still wondering how the writers will fix their relationship tho.
