I actually prefer Gabe turning into stone by opening the box himself.

He wasn't monstrously abusive like he was in the book, he was a more toned down deadbeat emotionally abusive loser, which fits the show's more PG theme.

Having Sally KILL him in the show would have felt out of place and a bit extreme. In the books it made sense bc the early 2000's was very much a "kill your bullies" era.

The movie was criticized for Percy planting the head to turn him to stone rather than Sally, saying it was robbing her of her agency. But show!Sally has plenty of agency, even to the point where she is able to file for divorce and kick him out, something book!Sally didn't do.

I like this change, I think it fits with the shows vibe, and its not too extreme since he fucked around and found out all on his own.

When Percy was burning his blue rock candy I thought we were gonna get emotional Percy over his father and I was like “Percy would not do that for his dad at this point. The blue food is a joke between him and his mother. That’s the last gift she gave him.”

And then the emotional gut punch of Percy praying and making an offering not to any god but to his mom

Sally has always been a goddess to her loved ones. She has always done what she had to do to keep Percy safe. She may not be perfect but she’s better than some other mortal parents.

*cough* Mr Chase didn’t believe Annabeth about the spiders despite knowing about the mist and the gods. *Cough*

I was just thinking about Percy’s death- well mostly Sally’s reactions to it.

Let’s just say, I’m crying all over again.

I feel like when Sally finds out, she wouldn’t react. During his funeral and all that, she would stay quiet (but everyone knew she wasn’t ok). She would stay quiet- like she always has for her baby.

When she got home though- she would break down. She would probably be depressed for a couple of months even. She would most probably lock herself in her room so that Paul couldn’t enter and would howl with grief.

There’s no coffin heavier then your own baby.

So I watched the first two episodes and…

If Percy had joined Kronos and died. I have no doubt in my mind that he would have demanded that he would be buried under the title “son of Sally Jackson”

Hell I’m pretty sure he’d do now.

He might relent to the title son of Poseidon

But he’s Sally’s son first and foremost.

Poseidon wasn’t there when he said his first words or when he learned to walk. Sally was and she remembers it in vivid detail.

Poseidon didn’t suffer though a loveless marriage just to keep him safe. Sally did and she even did her best to hide the abuse from Percy.

Percy has almost certainly forgotten that he is seen as the son of Poseidon because to Percy Poseidon was always an afterthought.

Sally was the reason Percy kept living for his first few years as a demigod. Before he had Annabeth as his rock. He only came home for his mother.

Honestly I was hella disappointed when Annabeth was Percy’s mortal anchor when he bathed in the Styx.

Annabeth is intrinsically tied to the divine. Percy never would have met her without the gods. She is important to him but Annabeth anchored herself to camp half blood and the gods.

Sally on the other hand? She’s painfully mortal. Nothing special about her other than her ability to see through the mist. She grew up in the mortal world and wanted Percy to live a good (hopefully long) mortal life.

Sally has always been Percy’s anchor.

Percy can and has lived without Annabeth and Poseidon.

But he’s Sally’s son. And without her he’d be an entirely different person.
