Print: Screen Printing

For my first week I decided to do print.We did screen printing with Fiona in Stuido 7.I used a photo that I took at Lahinch for the print as I think it created an interesting pattern.I drew out the pattern and then used a scalpel to cut it out.After lunch we learned how to use the screen printers.I had never tried out this type of printing technique before but i really enjoyed it.I used blue ink for my print as it was based on a sea pattern.I hope to try printing on fabric as a follow up for the week and bring it into the fashion elective for next week.

Some more sketchbook work using a period pad as a printing tool . I tried using Indian ink here and I think it works well but I’m going to use more mediums like pastels to see can I get a different effect . I’m starting to go with this idea of menstruation being temporary and how it leaves a mark .

In this session, we worked in smaller groups to combine our shape images and words to create a zine. We thought about effective ways to overlap different words against shape backgrounds to relate to one another and enhance each others meaning even more.

When we decided the layout of our zine and ways we were going to combine our work, we designed the layout on two folded A3 pieces of paper. We put the images that would be printed in orange on one, and the ones to be printed in black on the other. We had to make sure each page correlated so that the images we wanted to combine would end up on the right page.

There’s a video of the printing method that we were introduced to. The final results are also included.

I did a print workshop today and we did an etching on acetate.I decided to work from a sketch i had done in my sketchbook of someone lying in a hospital bed after getting procedures done to their face and the doctor grabbing their face as if to say ‘isn’t that better’. I really liked the print workshop.I didn’t like the first two black prints i done as it needed to be etched further and there was too much and too little ink.I really liked how the dark blue ink came out and we also did some chine-collé which i used to add blood and emphasis on the lips. I would like to try out more print techniques as i really enjoy it.
