Gender is Fluid: A seemingly everlasting evolution

As someone who joins pageantry, I can already say that all the glamor that we see on stage is very much different from the struggles of the candidates behind closed doors. As a candidate, I am exposed to different issues of life, particularly gender. It is much more complex than most issues because gender is not a solid construct. To me, gender is fluid. It is ever-changing and the very definition of gender is evolving over time. This liquidity of gender is becoming more and more evident in Philippine Pageantry.

Recently, Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Marquez Dee came out as bisexual. The LGBT Community and the world of pageantry welcomed her coming out. She wasn't the first one to come out as part of the LGBT Community because even the owner of Miss Universe is a trans woman. The very pageant of Miss Universe is slowly but surely evolving. As a media mogul, the trans woman owner of Miss Universe is also changing the perception of audiences around the world towards Miss Universe candidates who are a part of the LGBT. This evolution, we all welcome.

In this day and age of gender inclusivity, it is our obligation to empower those who are struggling and the responsibility of ""out-ing"" someone is never ours to bear. This goes with assuming one's gender based on physical appearance. In this epoch, mankind should be more sensitive and responsible for their mistakes. But these mistakes should never hinder us from learning, moving forward and evolving. The construct of gender will always exist and it will always evolve. The question is, are we ready to evolve with it?

October 16, Bratislava - We are staying: anti-fascist march through the city 

On Wednesday, October 12, a young right-wing extremist and radical nationalist killed two people in cold blood in the Bratislava queerspace Tepláreň. The killer was found dead the next morning. What is not dead, is the heinous ideology that motivated the attack.

That is why on Sunday, October 16, at 4 pm, we will meet again at the SNP Square in Bratislava, from where the angry voices of members of Bratislava's collectives and individuals will be heard. We will then march together in a commemorative protest through the city to the Government Office and show that fascist violence and hatred have no place in our city.

Despite the pitfalls of living under patriarchal capitalist system anddespite daily encounters with gender-based violence, we believe in thestrength of the LGBTIQA* community, which will never stop fighting for its rights. We therefore join together on this day to demonstrate our solidarity with queer people and to say loud and clear:

No to queerphobia! No to racism! No to nationalism! No to antisemitism! And especially, no to fascism in all its forms!

TW: discussion of internalised arophobia

I've realised i was aromantic almost three years ago. I was reading the first chapter of Loveless by alice oseman in a theater, waiting for the show to start. I couldn't concentrate on anything, my mind too focused on the words i just read. I was so scared back then, i rememeber feeling like i was gonna throw up. Of course i'm still scared sometime, but not as much. Three years ago i was still pretending to be alloace. You see, realising i was ace was easy, i guess i just knew when i was 16 that not feeling any sexuals...needs, wasn't "normal" for someone my age. It was even more weird that it didn't seem to bother me that much. But god, when i realise i was aromantic, when i googled "is it normal that i don't mind being single forever" and was met with "sign you might be aromantic" articles instead of a solution, i was defasted. Because suddenly, me wanting to be single wasn't a choice, it was because there were something wrong with me, something i coudln't change. I was navigating in online queerspace at the time, which is why i didn't really mind being asexual, it was something that people talked about and joked about within the spaces, but i had to search to find the word aromantic, as if we didn't exist in the community. It would have been so much more easier for me if i had both words at the same times.

Habang nanonood ako ng Ted Talks regarding sa Gender, nag come across ako sa isang Ted Talk by Dr. Bashan entitled "What Does it Mean To Be Sexually Fluid". Naintroduce niya yung concept na fluid yung gender natin and at some point magbabago ito dahil 'wala lang', nagbago lang siya. Malaya yung tao na i-express yung sarili niya depende sa nararamdaman niya at that moment na hindi narerestrain sa "ay ito na i'identify ko sa sarili ko, ganito na ako habang buhay."

Doon ko narealize na either you choose to become honest with yourself and express mo kung ano 'yung nararamdaman mo at the very moment, or be someone na alam mong 'hindi ikaw'. E ano naman kung pabagu-bago 'yung pag express mo sa sarili mo? As long as you are who you are, walang problema doon.

Also, 'All of the Above' kasi hindi rin ako sigurado. May naisip akong title na "Malaya", "Loud and Bold" or "Pagbabago" pero sa ngayon 'All of the Above' muna.
