character: mattie open: m/f/nb plot: mattie is a socialite-in-waiting, a pauper trying to turn princess. she’s been lying to all her rich friends that she’s rich too, only for your muse to randomly come into the diner she works at days before and discover she’s nothing more than a poor waitress. it’s up to you on what they do with that information! as for now, mattie’s groveling.
Tumblr media
okay. shit. two days ago, she’d innocently being working the night shift, when her world suddenly shattered. well, the fake world she crafted for herself had shattered. no one in the city of new york knew that mattie was lying about everything: her family, where she came from, the fact that she was nearly two hundred thousand dollars in credit card debt. as far as her rich friends knew, she fit right in with them, a hotel heiress from brazil that never had to work for a thing in her life. mattie feared her stomach was going to be permanently clenched from anxiety, waiting for all her friends to drop her. when they would figure out mattie was technically stealing from them, letting them pay for all the parties and expensive trips and clothes, just about everything. how she’d use take their credit cards because she knew they had no limit and her friends wouldn’t ever see the statements anyways. it was all working so perfectly—until that one damn shift. now the person in front of her held her fate and future in manhattan in their hands, and matilde doubted they’d just brush it off. “please… i know you don’t owe me anything, but i’m begging you. please. do not tell anyone about the other day. i’ll do anything you want, just don’t let the others know!”

character: summer open: m/f/nb plot: summer is a serial killer that mostly targets business men in a neighboring city. in the middle of killing some random man she met in a bar, your muse happens to come across her doing her favorite nighttime activity. it’s up to you if your muse was already aware of this and/or following her, or if they innocently come upon her in the act. this post was made using legacy editor, though beta is available on request!
Tumblr media
summer sung did what she did secretly. sometimes she liked to classify it as a little side hobby, something she did to de-stress every few weeks (or days, more recently), but summer knew the truth: killing was what she did, a murderer was who she was. the time not spent killing was time wasted, time she had to endure. of course, to indulge her little habit, she had to play the part. smile, be pretty, look clean and pure when everything about her was dirty and fetid. the only time she actually felt peace was a moment like this, knife gripped tightly and cheap plastic poncho covering her clothes—as much as she’d like to downright bathe in the blood of men she killed, it was just easier this way, easier to clean up and easier to hide. his arterial blood splatter splattered against her face, a magnetic large smile growing underneath it, and it was in that inopportune moment that she heard the unmistakable sound of a witness. she had been caught at the point of kill, head whipping back to look at the warehouse door opened. heart beating even quicker, something she didn’t believe was possible from the adrenaline and excitement of her favorite act, summer stood still as the man gargled his own blood at her feet. suddenly, she pointed her trusty knife at her intruder, “unless you want to end up like him, walk the fuck away.”

There’s more than one moment in the fourth episode of Ted Lasso when I fall to pieces inside (and sometimes outside) no matter how many times I watch it.
It’s the night of AFC Richmond’s annual charity auction and the team’s owner, Rebecca Welton (played by the incomparable Hannah Waddingham), is running the show alone for the first time following a painfully public split from her ex-husband, Rupert. We already know Rebecca’s broader motivations at this point: She’s dead-set on burning her ex’s beloved football club to the ground after years of Rupert’s infidelity and the public humiliation that followed. What we don’t know is just how traumatizing her marriage really was or how it shaped Rebecca into someone fiercely determined to get revenge, regardless of how many innocent people she has to hurt to get it.
Rebecca is clearly at her breaking point by the time the auction begins. After  finalizing preparations and wrestling with herself over whether a stunning black gown is something she can still “pull off”, she finds out the gala’s musical guest, Robbie Williams, has canceled at the last minute. To make matters worse, Rupert (Anthony Head) shows up at the gala — because of course he does — though he had RSVP’d “no” — because of course he did.
We already knew Rupert was a lying, cheating liar, but it isn’t until a subtle comment to Rebecca that we start to realize the extent of the damage she’s recovering from in the aftermath of their marriage.
“Not too much champagne now, dear,” he tells her after she sips from her glass. “You’ve got to stay sharp for the auction.” It’s in this uncomfortable scene with Rebecca, Rupert and Ted (Jason Sudeikis) that we see her transform from a confident, commanding team owner to someone who suddenly can’t trust herself. She tells Rupert he should run the auction instead of her —”We both know they’d rather see you,” she says with no argument from him — and immediately leaves to collect herself.
There are many ways to emotionally abuse a person. Some do it with swift, painful blows to their target’s confidence. Some carefully gaslight their way into a position of dominance by reinforcing self-doubt at every opportunity. And some, like Rupert, do it with a dull knife, relying on years of tiny cuts of cruelty to slowly injure the other person until they no longer recognize who they are or how they’ve been so brutally wounded.
“That man, he knows me. I used to think his blunt honesty was noble rather than what it really is, which is just the cruelest way of hiding his own insecurities. He’d say wear this, eat that. And I listened. But now I’m alone. I’m alone, Ted. Just like he said I would be if I left. I don’t want to be alone.”
And that’s when I break. Every. Damn. Time. Because Ted Lasso, in all its beauty and award-winning brilliance, isn’t always an easy watch if you’ve been abused by a partner and left to clean up their mess. While I, like so many others, fell in love with this show for all of its warmth and goodness, I can’t ignore how drawn I was to Rebecca’s character because so many of us have lived through her experience, and more importantly, lived to tell about it.
That’s why I wasn’t surprised when Waddingham recently said she drew on her own experiences in a past abusive relationship when performing the role. For those of us who’ve endured abuse only to further damage ourselves by seeking vengeance over healing, Rebecca represents the complex ugliness of recovery, how hurt people can hurt people in pursuit of peace.
For as much as this show does to deliver a model of kindness, optimism and forgiveness, it’s also explores human relationships in a way that shows you don’t need a clear-cut hero and villain to tell a compelling story about people — particularly a character like Rebecca who spends most of the first season driven by revenge. It’s why she hires Ted in the first place, despite his complete lack of experience. It’s why she’s initially able to resist his disarming personality and growing connection with the team despite their poor performance on the pitch.
It’s only late in the season, when Rupert cruelly shows up unannounced to tell her he and his new partner are expecting a child, that she realizes she’s never going to win at a game that requires hurting people, even if Rupert deserves to be on the receiving end of what he did to her.
Rebecca ultimately shows us there’s nothing pretty about processing relationship trauma and public humiliation — no magic scoreboard that can erase years of abuse if you have the upper hand. Even if she managed to destroy AFC Richmond, the thing Rupert (allegedly) loves most, it wouldn’t change what he did to her during their marriage or the damage he caused. And it certainly won’t absolve her of the responsibility to make amends with those she hurt when she was married or the people she’s hurting now by deliberately sabotaging a community’s beloved football club.
The catch is you can’t fully heal that kind of abuse without exhibiting the same vulnerability that led to being hurt in the first place, and that’s what we see when she finally comes clean to Ted about her intentions and gives him the freedom to destroy her reputation as a result. It requires more strength to do that than to act out of anger and spite. Anyone can pursue revenge. Not everyone can choose to surrender and start over.
That’s the pain and promise of Ted Lasso, a show buoyed by the power of personal connection. If Ted is intended to show us our highest potential as human beings, Rebecca shows us what happens when we’re so afraid of not deserving that connection that we’ll do anything to save face. She wanted so badly for her ex-husband to shoulder the burden of her own suffering. And it took being loved by good people to make her realize payback was only stealing her peace.
The beauty of Rebecca’s character lies in the complexity of who we can become as a result of being hurt, for better or worse. In a world where most of us out here are scared to death of being seen for who we are, Ted Lasso is a show that simply won’t let us avoid the pain of the human experience.
Instead, it shows us why that pain is necessary, why it matters, and why we don’t have to endure it alone.

[Image: a series of Tweets from @alexhern Text: a bunch of friends have texted me asking for a basic explanation as to what the hell happened to knock off all of Facebook so: Facebook (accidentally, we assume) sent an update to a deep-level routing protocol on the internet that said, basically, "hey we don't have any servers any more xoxo" Normally, this would be quite easy to fix. you just send another update saying "oh, don't worry, we have servers, they're here, xoxo". Things still break, it takes a while for the message to spread to all corners of the internet, egg on face, but liveable but Facebook runs EVERYTHING through Facebook So when its servers were booted off the internet, it also booted off… the ability to send that follow-up message and the ability to log-in to the system that would send the follow-up message and the ability to use the smartcard door lock on the front door to the building that contains the servers that control the system that sends the follow-up message and the messaging service you use to contact the head of physical security to tell them they need to high-tail it to the data centre out east with a physical key to override the smartcard door lock on the front door…]

Description: You arrive home one day to find a wedding invite for two of your best friends from high school. You knew this day was going to come eventually, but even with that said, you weren’t prepared to return home. At least not after 7 years of avoiding Buckhannon, West Virginia. Or rather, avoiding him; your ex-best friend and the secret love of your life. But maybe it was finally time to face your past, to face him, and everything else that happened on that horrible night. Who would have knew that your prom would end up being a total disaster, and the very last night you’d spend in Buckhannon for the next 7 years? you certainly didn’t. That’s for sure.
Catch up HERE.
Word Count: 5,210 ish.
Pairing: Modern!Steve Rogers x Reader.
Rating: 18+
Warnings: Violence. Drinking. Bad and offensive jokes. Possible triggering thoughts, feelings and emotions. Moments of bullying and harsh name calling. Lots of curse words. And a very sloooow burn.
A/N: I sadly don’t own any of these characters. And no beta reader, so I do proudly own all the errors and this story, so there’s that.
Tumblr media
July 2018 - Present.
You stand in your room, giving yourself a final once over. Tonight was Nat and Bucky’s Bachelor/Bachelorette party. They had both opted to leave it to the last minute so you could be apart of it. And as Buckhannon really wasn’t that big, they’d also decided to just have a joint party as well. Make it one big, final hurrah to the unmarried life for them both.
You glance at the clock on the wall quickly, checking to see just how much time you had left before Hilde, Nat and Wanda arrived to pick you up. 15 minutes. You walk over to your desk and grab your lipstick, it was your favourite shade and you never went anywhere without it. You stand back in front of the full length mirror and apply it, that being the final touch you needed. Then you pick up your clutch off the bed and put the lipstick inside before closing it and heading downstairs to wait for them.
Your heels click on the floor as you make your way into the kitchen, where your dad is sitting at the island counter. Paperwork spread out in front of him, clearly working on the shop’s accounts. If his mumbled curse words and dramatic sighs are anything to go off of. He hated, with every fibre of this being, having to deal with all the background stuff to do with the shop. All he really wanted to do was work on cars, but he was far too stubborn for his own good.
“You know,” you start off slowly, “there are these wonderful things called ‘assistants’. All you have to do is hire them, pay and treat them well, and they will actually handle most—if not all—of the background stuff.” You finish just as you come to stand in front of him.
He scoffs, “please. I don’t need an assistant, they’d have nothing to do.”
“They’d have a ton to do, if you’d just stop being a control freak and delegate tasks off to them.” You shrug, but can’t contain the cheeky grin.
“I am not a control freak,” he laughs, “I just like things done a certain way.”
“Yup,” you pop the p, “that is exactly what a control freak would say.”
He goes to talk then notices your outfit, “you look beautiful, kiddo. Do you have a ride home from High Life?”
“Good conversation change,” you shake your head, fondly, “and I’ll just cab back.” You glance down at your outfit, “think it’s too casual?”
Tumblr media
“No, not at all,” he shakes his head, “but you’re taking a jacket though, right?”
“Dad, it’s the middle of July, in Virginia. I’ll be fine without one.”
He shrugs, “it’s my job as a dad to worry about you getting cold.” He pauses, “so you’re taking a jacket, yeah?”
You laugh, “fine, fine.” And walk over to the entry closet, pulling out a lightweight cream bomber jacket, then head back into the kitchen. Showing the jacket to your ridiculous dad once you get there, “happy?”
He hums his approval and nods. “So, when are the ladies getting here?”
And as if on queue, your phone buzzes and you take it out of your clutch to quickly check the message. Seeing ‘We’re outside, sexy.’ From Hilde. You laugh to yourself then walk towards your dad, “now,” you say as you give him a quick side hug and a kiss on the cheek, then head towards the front door. “I’ll see you later.”
“Be safe, and text me if you need anything!” He calls from his place in the kitchen.
“Will do!” You say back as you do a quick check of your clutch, making sure you have everything then head out to the car.
“Get in loser,” Nat says from the passenger seat, “we’re going to the bar!” Then she bursts out laughing at her own joke.
“A Mean Girls reference, really?” You laugh and shake your head, then pull open the back door, and climb in. “I’m guessing Nat is already into the sauce?”
Wanda and Hilde laugh, as the latter pulls away from the curb, glancing in the rear view mirror at you quickly while she says, “try damn near bathing in it.”
“Oh God,” you mumble, “she’s gonna be fall down drunk in no time.”
“You do know I’m sitting right here, correct?” Nat glances back at you with a raised eyebrow.
You pat her head affectionately from your spot behind her, “of course we do, silly. We just don’t care.” Then you, Hilde and Wanda burst out laughing.
“Bitches,” Nat mumbles and swats your hand away. “I need new friends.”
“Oh please, you love us,” Wanda scoffs and shakes her head, disbelievingly.
“We just have to pick Rebecca up then we can head to High Life,” Hilde says as she shoulder checks and switches lanes.
“Sounds good,” you reply.
You all chat and joke the whole way to Clint’s house—where Rebecca, Barney and James Jr are currently staying—to scoop Rebecca and then onwards to the bar.
Once Hilde is parked you all hop out and head in, finding a large table near the back and ordering appies and drinks. You learned the boys hadn’t arrived yet as they were pre-drinking at Steve’s place and would be heading over shortly. They’d wanted to give the girls a little bit on their own. To chat, gossip and catch up. Which is exactly what you all do. Emphasis on ‘gossip’.
“So what the hell is this Madeleine and Tony bullshit?” You ask the question that has been bouncing around in your mind since the bridal party, as you glance around at the 3 ladies.
“Oh God,” Wanda groans, “where do we even start?” She looks over at Nat and Hilde.
“Now I’m not sure if this is true or not,” Nat starts, “but from what I’ve heard from Bucky it started out as a fling. They were both at some function together. Liquor was involved, obviously, and they,” she cringes, “slept together. And then things just sort of went from there.”
“Yeah, my guess is he was the closest she could get to Steve, so she took it,” Hilde adds with a cringe of her own.
“I also heard Tony always liked her, and that she is only with him for his money,” Rebecca says as she takes a sip of her drink.
“I see Buckhannon’s drama has reached New York now,” you laugh.
Rebecca winks at you, “only because I’m friends with Penelope’s little sister.”
“Oh shit, that’s right! How is Lizzy?” You ask her.
She shrugs, “good. Married now.”
“Damn,” you turn to glance around the table at the others. “Looks like I’m a dying breed now. The only single one left in the group,” you pause, then mumble, “maybe even the whole damn town.”
“No, not the only one,” Nat looks at you with a cheeky as fuck expression on her face, and you know the next words out of her mouth are going to be fucking hilarious—note the sarcasm. She takes a smug sip of her drink, which you didn’t even know was possible to do, then she adds with a wink, “Steve’s still very single.”
You gape at her for just a moment, because you didn’t expect those words to leave her mouth—wait, who are you kidding? You knew damn well she was going to say something involving Steve, because it’s Nat. Let’s be real, she never misses a chance to try to push Steve on you. It’s rather frustrating because you’d honestly love nothing more then to have Steve entirely to yourself. But the reality is, he sees you as just a friend, maybe even still like a little sister? Who even knows anymore, honestly.
Now don’t get this wrong, you know you’re a pretty woman, you aren’t blind to the attention you get now. But you also aren’t stupid, you know that it’s really damn hard to get out of the friends zone. Shit, you are like the Queen of the damn friend zone. You’ve only been in Steve’s friend zone for like 9 years, no big deal or anything.
You snort at Nat’s words, “yeah, okay, but that doesn’t really help me,” you gesture to yourself, then a thought crosses your mind, “what I don’t get is why?”
“Why?” Hilde asks, confused.
“Sorry, I should have clarified. I meant why the hell is someone like Steve still single?” You look around at the women in front of you, “I don’t get why no one has snatched him up yet. It makes no sense.”
The girls all share a strange look, as if having a non verbal conversation about something. Something you clearly aren’t in the loop for, which is odd. You’re always in the loop with these girls, even with living 11 hours away for the last 7 years.
Wanda is the first to break the weird awkward silence, when she looks to you and says, “he’s just been waiting for the right one.”
You nod, slowly, “that makes sense, I guess.” And it does, sort of—“But how does he expect to find ‘the right one’ if he isn’t even looking?”
Hilde speaks up this time, “because he already knows exactly what he wants, so now he just needs to lock that down.”
Okay, this whole conversation is confusing as hell. Everything they are saying sounds like a double meaning. Which is fucking weird. “What does that even mean?” You mumble then a realization hits you. “Wait, are you saying there is a woman in town that he likes? One he wants to actually be with?”
And wait, why the hell does saying those words hurt so much? I mean, yeah, when you thought Steve was engaged to Madi you may have flipped out a little—okay, that’s a lie, you flipped out a lot—but you assumed that was because it was Madi. Because you feared he would be forever tied to that she-witch. And you desperately want him to be happy in life, that is the honest to God truth.
But then why do you feel this odd feeling? Like your heart is constricting, yet your blood is boiling. Are you fucking jealous right now? Oh girl, you have no right to be jealous. Seriously. You don’t even really have a right to ask about his love life. Let alone be upset by the fact he actually has one. You were the one who left him behind all those years ago. You were the one who stripped your rights to know and be privy to his life. Give your damn head a shake, woman. Ridiculous.
“I wouldn’t say ‘likes’, it’s a little more than that,” Nat says, and you swear she’s eyeing you, carefully? “But yeah, there is.”
Okay yup, yeah, that was for sure the feeling of jealousy. Now you know that for sure. You feel your heart break just a little, and you’re sure your lips twitched into a frown before you could correct it and force a smile on your face. “Well, I’m ah, I’m happy for him,” you nod once as if to trick them into believing your words are true. “I hope he doesn’t wait around too long though. He might miss out on her.”
Nat scoffs, and you just barely hear her mumble what sounds a lot like a very sarcastic, “‘now’s not really a good time.’”
Wanda lightly elbows Nat’s side under the table, and you assume she didn’t want anyone to notice, but you saw it. You furrow your brows at that but decide to just leave it there, you really want to enjoy this night and if you have to be subjected to anymore ‘Steve’s in love with someone’ talk, you know for a fact your mood will be ruined for the night. And there won’t be any hope of salvaging it.
But before anyone can fix the now awkward tension lingering in the air around you all, Wanda adds, “we all hope so to. They’d honestly be perfect for each other.”
And yup, hearing that sucked. A lot. But you’ll live. Mostly.
And then Hilde—that beautiful fucking woman, who you could honestly kiss in this very moment—swiftly changes the subject, “I say we do some shots!”
Amazing idea, Hilde! And this is exactly why she’s your favourite.
“I second that!” You cheerfully say as you flag the waitress down to order a round of shots.
You all then just continue to drink and catch up, talking about life and work for a while, and ordering a few more rounds of drinks as you do.
About 45 minutes after you’d all arrive at the bar Nat mumbles, “well fuck,” out of nowhere as she stares at something behind you. “Okay, now don’t all look at once, but guess who just fucking walked in.”
Completely disregarding her warning you all look, at the same time, “I said not all at once!” She hisses. But it’s too late. Your eyes land on Brock walking into the bar with Johann and Baron. You quickly spin back around, hoping he hadn’t seen you.
“Fuck,” you murmur and take a long swig of your drink, finishing it off, “of all the fucking people.”
“Are you gunna be okay, Y/N?” Wanda leans in to ask you quietly.
“We can go somewhere else if you want?” Hilde offers.
Then Nat adds, “yeah, it’s really no bother to us. We’d just have to give the guys a heads up that there is a change in plans.”
You wave them off, “no, no. I’ll be fine. I’m sure he won’t even notice us.”
“Okay,” Wanda says reluctantly, “if you’re sure.”
“I am,” you nod. Buuuuut it’s a lie, you just don’t want to inconvenience everyone by forcing them to relocate because of your past drama. Plus there isn’t really anywhere else in town to go, besides a few small lounges and a seedy, roadside truck stop. Where you’d all probably end up in a far worst situation. Nope, no, we will stay right here. It’s been 7 fucking years, time to get over the past. Once and for all.
The girls all nod then pick up their conversations again, however just seeing him drags up old memories and you find yourself zoning out. Remembering the last time Brock unexpectedly showed up at a party you were at…
July 2011 - 7 years ago.
It was Independence Day and Steve’s 18th birthday party, and Clint’s house was freaking PACKED with damn near the whole school—And yes, you said Clint’s house. Sam had started planning Steve’s party like always, and then quickly learned that Clint’s parents would actually be away over that weekend, so he commandeered Clint’s place. That’s a lie, he did get Barney’s permission first, so I guess that’s not so much commandeering but more like borrowing? Can one even actually borrow a house? Who knows.
But either way, here you were, surrounded by your whole damn school. And honestly you didn’t think it was even possible to fit this many people into one house. But then again, the Barton house wasn’t exactly a normal sized home. There was a reason it was called The Barton Estate. The place was freaking massive.
You’d arrived with the usual suspects, the birthday boy included—shocker, I know!—but within minutes of arriving Steve had been dragged off by his football buddies to play beer pong. As per usual.
You kept tabs on where Steve was, which was also ‘as per usual’, but let him just have time with his teammates. Mainly because trying to prevent a whole damn football team from stealing your best friend was actually impossible. You knew that. Plus he had promised to come find you ‘all’ later, though you knew he’d directed that comment mainly at you.
But regardless of that you had been having a wonderful night with the rest of your friends, so far. That is, until Nat elbowed you gently and subtly nodded her head towards the front door. You turned and watched as Madi, Penelope and Kiara all entered the home.
You cringed then quickly turned back to your friends, “who the fuck invited them?” You pointedly glared at Sam.
Who, in turn, put his hands up defensively, “don’t look at me! This isn’t my house and I didn’t invite her.”
You narrowed your eyes at him for a few more seconds then shifted your heated glare towards Clint, who also put his hands up in defence, “I didn’t invite her either.”
“She probably just heard about the party from someone else. Seeing as the whole damn school is here, after all,” Bucky mumbled and also shot a glare pointedly at Sam. Buck was never a fan of large crowds.
“I can’t help it if everyone loves Steve,” Sam shakes his head. “You try telling people they can’t come to his party. They get all pouty and shit, man. And I don’t know how to handle pouty people!” He throws his hands up in defeat, “they always just look so damn sad, like little lost puppies and it breaks my heart! Okay! I’m sorry!”
“Sammy, it’s fine,” Hilde says through a laugh. “No one’s mad at you.”
“Ah,” you pipe up and raise a finger in the air, “I am.” But your barely contained smirk gives away that you’re joking.
“That’s fine, you’re always mad. So that’s nothing new,” Sam shrugs but then bursts out laughing, “shit, I tried to keep a straight face there. But I just couldn’t.”
“So rude!” You pout.
“Way to go, asshole,” Bucky pats him on the back, but it’s not in comfort.
“Oh shit!” Sam says as he lunges for you and pulls you into a bear hug. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I was only joking! You’re never really mad,” he pauses, “it’s actually kinda weird,” he notes as he trails off.
“You totally do have a weakness to the pout!” You laugh loudly, “I need to remember this for the future.”
He pulls back from the hug and gasps, “you tricked me?!” You nod enthusiastically and he releases you fully, “now that was rude!”
“Oh you’ll live!” You giggle but it quickly dies in your throat as you watch Madi approach Steve on the other side of the room. Your stomach is instantly in knots as she whispers something in his ear and he nods then leads her out of the room.
“The fuck,” you mumble and everyone turns to see them exiting the room together.
“Where the hell are they going?” Nat says from beside you.
“What could they possibly have to talk about?” Hilde adds.
You swallow down the bile climbing up your throat and attempt a nonchalant shrug, which probably didn’t come off as that, at all. Considering you were freaking the fuck out on the inside. “Beats me,”
you say as you peel your eyes away from the door they had just walked through, and notice everyone now staring at you. “What?” You ask and they all mumble a, “nothing,” in unison.
They all continue talking about Steve and Madi going off together, alone, but you do your best to ignore the conversation. As just listening to it is making it worse for you. So you decide to people watch instead. At least it’s better then just standing there in stunned silence, staring at the door, waiting for them to walk back through it.
Once your friends move on to a different topic, you tune back in, slightly. Enough to add in here and there at least, and to keep them from noticing your complete change in demeanour. Though you figured they’d probably all noticed it anyways, but being the amazing friends they were, none of them mentioned it.
After what felt like days, but was probably only 15 minutes, they still hadn’t come back. And your gut was in even more knots with every passing minute. Where the fuck are they? “I’m gonna go get another drink,” you abruptly say and then walk off before anyone can say a word.
You look around the whole way to the kitchen, searching for that giant everywhere. But then you reach the kitchen, without so much as a glimpse of him, anywhere. And now you are even more worried and upset. You numbly make a drink and then chug it. Only to then make another drink. But before you can chug that one you feel a tap on your shoulder and you swing around, hoping it’s Steve.
However, the second you see who it actually is, your heart drops more. It’s not that you’re upset to see Brock standing there, it’s just that you were hoping it was your favourite giant, more.
“Hey,” he smiles.
“Hey,” you return the gesture as best you can.
“How’s your night going?” He asks as he takes a sip of his drink.
“Good. Good. Fine,” you say quickly and nod, causing him to laugh. “You?”
“Better now,” he gives you a wink and a once over, and it’s strange for you to have a guy seemingly interested in you. But you’re not gonna lie, it’s a nice feeling.
“Ah,” you pause, “you excited for prom?” Really? That’s you making small talk?! You internally facepalm at how awkward you are around guys.
“It’s funny you should ask, as I was just coming over here to see if you had a date to prom?”
“Me?” You question, slightly caught off guard. He nods and you shake your head, “ah, nope. No. No date to prom yet.”
“Well, what would you say to me taking you?”
“You?” You gape, now utterly caught off guard.
He laughs, “yeah, me.”
“Ah,” you pause, you’d secretly been hoping Steve would ask you, even just as a friend, as he’d yet to ask anyone and he’d made such a big deal out of you being his date for the winter formal. But with prom being 2 weeks away now, you were assuming if he was going to ask, that he’d ask soon. Hopefully.
“Can I get back to you on that?” You ask then kick yourself internally. How rude was that! You quickly add, “not that I wouldn’t like going with you, I just wasn’t really planning on going and ah,” you search for an excuse, “I don’t have a dress for it.” Horrible excuse. Do better. “Plus, I’d have to talk to my dad,” you pause. This isn’t going well. At all. “About going, I mean. Make sure he’s okay with it,” you say as you finally clamp your mouth shut. Wow, way to go, Y/N. Cause that wasn’t awkward as fuck. Damnit.
He just stares at you for a moment, then a smirk graces his lips, “that’s fine. Ask your dad and get back to me.”
“Yup. Will do.”
“Well, have a fun night, Y/N. I hope to hear from you soon,” he winks and then walks away. Leaving you standing there like a fish out of water. What the fuck just happened?! You shake your head and take a few giant gulps of your drink before topping it up and heading back to your friends.
“Where’d you run off to?” Nat questions, with a smirk on her face. You swear she can read body language like a damn spy. Though you’d bet you look like you’d just seen a freaking ghost.
“Ah, just went to get a drink,” you reply.
“Was that Brock we saw chatting with you?” Wanda asks.
“Just now?”
“No, Y/N, last week,” Hilde says sarcastically as she rolls her eyes, “yes, just now.”
“Ah, yup. Mhmm,” you hum, “he ah, he asked me to prom.”
“What?!” They all exclaim at the same time then glance around at each other, as if they all know something you don’t before turning back to you.
“What did you say back?!” Nat damn near yells.
“How did he ask?!” Wanda questions.
“Did you accept?!” Bucky says at the same time.
“Are you going with him?!” Hilde says directly after. Clint and Sam both don’t say a word, and instead they just gape at you, like you’d just told them superheroes were real.
“Jesus, guys. One at a time,” you shake your head. “I didn’t accept yet,” you pause. Shit, you can’t exactly tell them the reason behind why you didn’t accept. Sooo looks like you’re going to reuse excuses here. “I have to talk to my dad first. Plus I don’t even have a dress.”
“Do you want to go with him?” Sam asks after a moment, when no one else has even so much as uttered a word.
You shrug, “I duno, I don’t exactly have suitors lining up at my door. He will probably be the only person to ask me, and I guess going with him is better then going to prom alone. So yeah, maybe I do want to go with him.”
“But it’s Brock,” Bucky mumbles and receives an elbow to the side from Nat. They share a weird look between them and then Nat turns to you and smiles as she says, “well, if you want to go with him, then I say do it.”
You nod, “I’m going to get back to him later, ah, after I talk to my dad. Brock said that was fine.”
Everyone nods, but mostly all stay quiet. It’s fucking awkward as hell, and for the first time since joining this group of friends, you feel utterly lost and completely left out. They all seem to know something you don’t and that bugs the hell out of you. “What am I missing?” You question them all as you glance between them.
“Nothing,” they all say in unison, again.
“I’m gonna go make another drink,” Bucky says abruptly, which causes you to narrow your eyes at him. Like you didn’t know what that action meant. Shit, you’d just pulled the same move on them not even 20 minutes ago. He was hiding something. Now you knew it for sure.
“I’ll join you,” Nat adds, Hilde and Sam nod that they will as well, and then they all head off towards the kitchen. Leaving you even more confused, and skeptical that it isn’t just ‘nothing’ like they all claimed.
You turn to Wanda and Clint, with a ‘the fuck was that?’ look and they both just shrug. You can’t shake this weird gut feeling, and it puts you on edge.
You glance around the room and finally catch a glimpse of Steve, and instantly you start to feel a little better.
That is, until you then notice Madi directly beside him. They were standing side by side, and Madi keeps putting her hands all over Steve, and that was the final straw for you. Without a word you turned and headed for the front door, chugging the last of your drink as you go then placing your empty cup on a side table along the way.
Fuck this party, you just want to go home. So without even telling anyone, you leave. If they can all keep shit from you, then you can too. And by the time you made it out the front door you were pissed off, hurt and utterly over this stupid night. You ended up walking the whole way home as you needed the fresh air to help clear your head. It didn’t work, but it was worth a shot.
Once home, you got into PJ’s and checked your phone. You had a bunch of missed texts and calls from everyone, except Steve. All of them were basically just your friends wondering where you went. You texted Wanda saying you were fine and had just gone home, then texted Steve to wish him a happy birthday one last time, and to say goodnight. As was your thing. And even though you were upset at him, you couldn’t not. It was his birthday, after all.
You woke up the next morning to more messages from your friends, but still nothing from Steve. Which was odd as he always texted you to say goodnight. No matter what. Even if he was halfway around the world, or had only just dropped you off 20 minutes before, he’d still always text you. It wasn’t like him to not text. Nor was it like him to not thank someone for birthday wishes. He was always polite, sometimes to a ridiculous level. But to not even say anything back?! That wasn’t like him at all.
But you’d learn just how much he’d changed that night soon enough.
Present - July 2018.
“Shit, incoming,” Nat whispers loudly, pulling you back to the present. And you didn’t even need to turn to know what she meant by that.
You stand abruptly, “I’m gonna go get a drink.” Then you damn near run to the bar, in the hopes you could avoid an encounter with Brock and his gang of friends.
Once you reached the bar, and ordered a drink, you glance over your shoulder and see them still standing by your table talking to the girls. Looks like they hadn’t noticed you, or if they did, they hadn’t followed you, which is all you could have hoped for. Honestly.
The bartender puts the drink on the counter and you turn back to accept it. You decide to hang at the bar till they leave your table and head back to their own. Shouldn’t take long with Hilde there, she’d tell them to fuck off shortly.
You keep your back to them and sip your drink, glancing behind you every few minutes to see if they were gone yet.
“Long time no see,” you hear a nasty voice coo behind you. A voice that would forever be etched into your mind, no matter how hard you tried to forget it.
You cringe then turn around, “not long enough though.”
His eyes drag down then back up your body, until they reach yours and then he smirks that vile smirk you also remember, completely. “Oh, don’t be like that,” he takes a step closer to you, “especially not when you look this fucking good. Damn, Y/N, you grew up nicely.”
He places his hand on the bar beside you, effectively caging you in between him, the bar and a stool. Not really giving you an escape route, which triggers flashbacks of prom to begin running through your head, and then your blood runs cold. Causing a chill to rip down your spin and the hairs on the back of your neck to stand tall.
You attempt to push the stool back to gain some distance from him, but it only moves about an inch. Basically until it bumps in to the stool beside it and then refuses to go any further. Which doesn’t really give you anymore room to work with. “Can you back the fuck up.”
“You’re more feisty then I remember,” he leans in a bit to whisper, “I like em feisty.”
You freeze, completely lost for words and, and, and, the fucking nerve on this guy. How fucking dare he! You were just about to slap him—or something, you hadn’t quite figured that part out just yet—for his vile comments, when a growled voice behind him both startles you and calms you.
“I believe she asked you to step away from her.”
Steve. It was Steve.

John Rogers’ Facebook Live
For those of you who didn’t know, this evening on the UPtv Facebook page, John Rogers (writer and producer of The Librarians and Leverage) did a Live and answered fans’ questions.
Here’s a recap of what happened (it’s a freaking poem, sorry!):
The comments in square brackets [like these] are my comments.
It started with some good old awkward silence (because few people were there and UPtv wanted for him to wait).
He said hi to everyone and marvelled at the fact that he had The Librarians fans watching him from all over the world (Please don’t ask me what time is it where I live). Someone had mistaken him for an actor and he thanked them, but said that they were mistaking him for someone way cooler than him.
In the meantime, he had a record on the wall behind him and someone asked him about it, he proudly took it in front of the camera to show that it was a 45 Bohemian Rapsody record (he’s a big Queen fan).
He reminded all of you lucky folks in the US that UPtv is not only showing all the episodes with new material every Wednesday, this weekend there will be a The Librarian marathon (the 3 movies plus the pilot and interviews with the cast), so don’t forget!
What was his fave moment from the show?
One of his fave was the videogame episode written for John Kim, the idea of the episode wasn’t new, but it was supposed to be a sort of redemption arc for Ezekiel. John Kim wasn’t a seasoned actor when he came from Australia to film the show and he really gave his best in this episode, thanks to - John Rogers added - the help of John Larroquette (Jenkins) and Rebecca Romijn (Eve Baird) who really helped him a lot.
He added that every single moment spent watching John Larroquette was a great moment [and can’t we Larroquetthishes understand], also watching Rebecca and Noah interact was really funny because Flynn had been really unlucky, romantically speaking, on the show and watching him being pulled out of his shell because of Eve, his equal, was a gift, especially when they figured out that Rebecca had a lot of comedian potential and they learned to tap into that. He liked working with Jonathan Frakes, and when Christian Kane finally got to fight in season 3 and 4 (they intentionally held him back). Overall too many great moments because it was a great cast.
Please talk about your experience as a writer and producer for The Librarians.
He wasn’t one of the original writers, he just hopped on the first and third movie of The Librarian because Flynn is a polymath and he (John Rogers) has a degree in phisics and could help with lots of science and cool knowledge stuff. After Leverage ended they managed to get the rights to make a tv show out of The Librarian, they had schedule problems because Noah was on Falling Skies, so they needed to make it quickly, they couldn’t replace him because he was a franchise character, so they came up with the idea of a team looking back at the first movie [when there’s that loooooooooong queue of people on the stairs that are trying to get the job like Flynn] and thought “Who are these people who had a shot of living this magical life?” and just one replacement Librarian would have been constantly compared to Flynn, while a team gave them the possibility to have the format change they were looking for. So then they sat down to think how Flynn would change and how these new characters would change. John Rogers thought about the fact that throughout the movies a big theme was loneliness, because this dream job made you isolated, and Noah was all for playing a Flynn who had been through a lot of action in those 10 years and was a different guy.
What was your inspiration for the episodes you wrote?
They put togethere a lot of ideas, mainly thinking “What is a great myth, urban legend, urban lore, etc.? And how do we twist it?” Because us, the fans, watch a lot of genre entertainment, so we were probably ahead of them in terms of knowing the subject. So they decided to start with “something like the 90s X-Files, something that the audience’s expecting, and twist it!”. He makes the example of the “witchcraft episode” [1x07 The Librarians and the Rule of Three, the one with Morgan Le Fay] “so in the 90s the kids.. it would’ve been a goth cult doing satanic practices, how do we twist it? Well, it turns out it’s actually the parents and it’s with good intentions. And also we brought in Morgan le Fay, fantastic character”. They sit down, think about the themes, do a lot of research, have fun with weird historical stuff and then twist it. Then he added that beside all of this, they listened to whatever John Larroquette would say/point out because “whatever John Larroquette says is super super interesting!” [Preach.]
How did you decide the villains of each season?
Since they didn’t know if they were going to be renewed (this for each season), they always tried to give us closure, they didn’t want to leave us hanging too much, they tried to make each season like a book with only one big villain. Since the first season was a reboot of the movies they used the original villain, The Serpent Brotherhood, to ease us in a new mythology. By the second season they were really fascinated with how books and narrative works, so Geoffrey Thorne came up with the idea of the fictionals. For season 3 and 4 they found an interesting historical path to follow and explore. So they actually decided first what they wanted to talk about in that season and then picked a villain that would fit.
Where does the story of What Lies Beneath the Stones come from?
[Can I say that this question is getting old?] Jacob Stone comes from a place where he’s uncomfortable with himself and that’s mostly because of the expectations that are put upon us by others, so they wanted to tell you where those expectations came from, in this case from his father. John Rogers was quick to assure us that Christian actually has a great relationship with his father, but they wanted to show what happens when you leave home, when you go out of a “redneck” situation like that.
If there could have been only one Librarian in the end, which of the LITs would you have chosen?
“Well that’s not fair!” He says that there’s a reason for which he wrote the season 1 finale like that, to show you what all of them would have been like as the ultimate Librarian, partially because they didn’t know if they were getting a season 2 (they filmed it all before airing) and he “has no desire to revisit that nightmare”, he likes to think that “Ezekiel is annoying the hell out of Stone” somewhere, somehow, still all happily together. [Is John Rogers a Jazekiel shipper? Yes, he is]
Had you been able to do a 5th season, what ideas would you have liked to explore?
He thinks that the show had a lot more seasons in it than what they actually got, and they were leaning toward the idea that you can’t keep a secret forever, they would have to go public, they would have to address the fact that magic is in the world and the world would find out and that would have been a whole new mess.
How did you come up with Galahad and the other immortals?
A lot of it was looking back at the movies, and once they established that Jenkins was immortal and Excalibur was there as a character, “a real character, he made us all cry when he died! I mean, probably my favourite thing in my entire career, is that I made a bunch of people cry when a sword died on tv!”, it made sense to look at the Knights of the Round Table for immortals (with the help of historians on staff, like Kate Rorick) and other immortals too are just “what are other cool myths and how do we integrate them with our story?”
Why otters?!
Always in the Morgan Le Fay episode, they were researching projects to put in the background and they stumbled upon the fact that otters are actually really dangerous, and “when you’re a bunch of writers locked in one room with each other for ten hours a day... you get a little sneaky, and so... deadly otters just became a recurring joke and we just never let it go!”
Which of the cast members could you see as a librarian, working the books and stuff?
Surprisingly for us, he says, Christian Kane, because he had a real interest in history, and he or Lindy Booth would have had a natural inclination towards it.
When did you decide Charlene and Judson were an item? I ask since in the movies it was never really hinted at.
Bob [Newhart, Judson] was retiring and Jane [Curtin, Charlene] was on a CBS show and they had just enough time to shoot that first episode of season 1 with them, so they had to tie them together to say goodbye at the same time. They first tied them together with her being his Guardian - there was actually a cool sword fight with Jane Curtin we never got to see because there wasn’t enough time - and when they brought her back they got to throw Jenkins in the mix (they liked their banter and decided to up their relationship) [dumbest decision ever], they created a backstory and properly said goodbye to her.
About the death of Excalibur,
on the first edit Dean put in the dog whines sound without warning him and when it played he told him it was too heartbreaking, take that out, but Dean loved it.
Did you keep anything from the set?
No, because they were still shooting when he left. Everyone wanted the Globe, but Dean kept it.
So who was Charlene married to prior to Judson?
Actually, it was after Judson. But he said “think of Higlander, once you realise Judson will never be able to settle down you think, well, maybe you should have a human relationship to have a real life”
What do you think was the secret sauce that made the show so special?
“Honestly, I think it was love”. And the fact that they could literally tap into any subject, and “they could all hit a joke!”, they [the cast] really liked each other, “Rebecca and Lindy were inseparable, everyone adopted John [Kim] as their little brother” so that showed on camera. On a business side nobody else was making a family show.
How did you keep pace with the episodes so that nothing would happen too quickly?
In the first season they were lucky to be able to write it all before filming it, so they had a solid background, and he says that it’s important, for the emotional growth of the characters, to see the episodes in the order they were intended to, not like they are on DVD, especially “Jake and Cassie are kinda screwed up if you watch them in the DVD order”. The first season is about how you build trust, welcome to the magical world and see them rise to the occasion. In the second season it was how do you change, you’ve been introduced to this world, how do you become a different person. He loves writing about characters who don’t have a choice but to change. The actors really helped (they came up with “Jacob’s dad, the fact that Cassandra had never really dated so she was not aware of her sexual orientation, John [Kim] wanted to talk about his family. So it was very much talkig to them, looking at the emotional story we wanted to tell over the season and then split it into ten and figure out how to pace that”
How much ad libbing space was the cast allowed?
A lot. He knew Christian very well, kinda knew Lindy, “Rebecca was fantastic, John Larroquette has... nine Emmy’s! John Larroquette won so many Emmy’s he had to ask them to stop giving them to him! So, yeah, you let him do what he wants”. John Kim is a natural talent and Noah knows Flynn inside out. So they all go through reharsal (when they ask “oh, can I change this, can I change that?” and you’re like “yeah, sure” unless it’s a piece of information that is needed for later) and then they ask the directors “can I try this? Can I try that?”, sometimes they just go for it and you keep rolling. In the time loop episode (Ezekiel’s videogame) Christian Kane had to say “Some thief!” a billion times in one day and he tried to make it funny and new every single time.
Did you prefer writing more mythical/historical based stories or more science fiction based stories?
Fifty fifty. The mythical stories were funny because they had to find the real story and then find the magic tweak, science fiction is easier because you have control and people assume that what you’re saying is real, it feels easier. He likes the fact that in the historical ones you think “oh wow! That’s really weird, then you Google it and go like, oh wow! That’s true!”, both cool and sometimes disturbing, he says, what more could you want?
Was it important for you to be working on a family friendly show?
Yes, very much so. Because there wasn’t much you could watch together with your kids back then. It was a beautiful challenge to make a show with deeply emotional stories and characters with real problems, real arcs, and do it in a family friendly setting. Raise subjects that were relevant, like in the Morgan Le Fay episode where a lot of the staff had kids in highschool and they talked about the fact that kids these days are under so much pressure, so much homework and still need to have lives! And they approached that through the metaphor of magic.
Which tv shows and movies inspired you as a writer?
Old action shows, con shows, Doctor Who, historical shows, The Rocket Files [?? sorry, I’m really not sure about the name, English is not my first language], Raiders of the Lost Ark, old pulps (they structured the episodes titles to be like old pulps). Probably more books. Alastor MaClaine [??], Isaac Asimov, Robert Howard.
If the show had continued, what other mythologies would you have drawn from for ideas?
Probably expand the Arthurian mythology, Asian mythology, Russian mythology, etc. He would have liked a more diverse casting with the new mythologies to make it even more inclusive as a show, because The Librarians are the Guardians of the world and you should have world cultures and world mythologies represented.
What were some of your favourite ideas put into the show?
Santa Claus. He thinks it came up because they knew they were going to be a winter show, so they had a Christmas episode, and he said “well, we can just do Santa Claus!” and then someone said “he’d be a friend of Jenkins because he’s immortal!” and then “but who do you get to play Santa Claus?!” and Bruce Campbell had just conveniently moved to Oregon. He was a delight, everyone loved him and he broke their hearts when later his schedule never allowed him to be back on the show. Jeff Thone’s fictionals as well, the vampire quest with Cassie and Jenkins and Clara Lago (Estrella) because of Cassie’s sexuality that was set out at the end of season 1 and had to roll out, basically they figured out who she had chemistry with, “Honestly, I was kinda going for her [Cassie] and Baird, but we never got there. Yeah, Noah kept coming back and he’s a charming bastard! Ops! I’m not supposed to swear, sorry” [John Rogers is a wild fanboy and I love him]. “Most of my favourite things were not mine”
About Nicole coming back:
They had to be careful, because it wasn’t something that could have happened in season 1, the story had to progress before her [you could have just... not brought her back? Just saying], the show needed to be able to stand alone and only then they could bring a character from the original movies back [yeah, but like, why Nicole?? Why not Emily? Better yet, why not Simone?? And don’t you dare tell me “Simone died” because guess what, Nicole was dead too.]
Which character was the most fun to write?
It’s a tie, but Lindy because he had fun with maths, all the calculations she does they (espacially he) did them, in the pilot when she’s in Stonehenge, John Rogers went there and had fun calculating the actual height of the sun in Germany at that particular time, and then Rebecca because she’s a gifted comedian ancd actor, like with the story that Eve tells Ezekiel in the time loop episode that was the anchor to that episode.
Who’s your fave director to work with?
They were all great, probably Mark Roskin and Jonathan Frakes.
About the pilot:
The pilot was a challenge because in the middle of it they found out they could not have Jane Curtin for the second half, so her part was rushed.
Did you ever have to deal with writers block trying to create such intricate arcs? How did you or would you deal with it?
There’s the writers’ room, so hopefully when you’re stuck, the others are not. That’s why it’s important to rely on your writers, because even if you don’t have a way to approach something, they will. There’s an old saying that goes “you don’t think your way out of a writing block, you write your way out of a thinking block”, if you are stuck you just start writing, even if it’s bad, till you hit one interesting line, one interesting moment and you hook on that and realise that that was what your brain was trying to get to.
It was action packed, but was it hard to keep it family friendly?
No, lots of them had kids so they knew the right tone. Action doesn’t mean brutal violence, the most challenging thing was how to do the emotional stories that are mature but still resonates with, like, 12yo.
Did you ever start working on an episode and find it wasn’t working? How did you change in the fly?
It happened only once to him. The physical sets weren’t lining up, they were trying to go for a dream sequence (later on they made something similar with the Wonderland episode), so they changed it with the “deal with the Devil in a small town with Baird’s old friend”.
Was there ever a storyline that you wanted to do and didn't get to do?
He would have liked to do something more with the “the Government has found out that magic is real”, especially because the idea of magic in the show is not “weeeeee, we can do magic now! Hardwork is what pays off and magic is a short cut and is dangerous”, Jenkins is saying it constantly, they wanted to blow up some myths “everyone loves talking about kings and queens, but everyone forget that that means you don’t have any rights, that’s why Jenkins had that speech at the end of episode 10″ [season 1, Loom of Fate]
Who was the best poker player?
Not John Kim because he has no poker face “I love the boy but you can see everything that he’s thinking crossing his face at all times”.
After the time line resetted in the last couple of episodes, do you think Jenkins still has his D&D games with Jeff?
As you may have noticed from episode 10, season 1, Baird points out that the thing she did with Santa that enables her to remember all the other timelines did not come from the Clippings Book, it came from Jenkins, so the assumption is that Jenkins can at least see other timelines and certainly as immortal he’s aware of them, he’s a different relationship with time, so even if during the timeline reset maybe Jeff doesn’t remember, he [John Rogers] likes to think that Jenkins found his way back to them, if that was something that he enjoyed doing (and John Rogers thinks he does), “but Jenkins definitely remembers all of the timelines, wheter he admits it or not”. [Like, be still my Casskins heart, he remembers, he remember Tea Time in the Annex, I’m cool, I’m calm. Fine. Someone call an ambulance]
Which character relationship was your favourite? Eg. Eve/Jenkins, Jake/Ezekiel etc.
He says that the question is which characters do you prefer to write, because that’s how they exist, with dialogue. He loved Eve/Jenkins because they were “the old guys”, they’ve been through a lot, a lot of pain, loss, so there was a lot of bonding ground in those scenes, and Cassandra and Jacob because they both didn’t have a chance to live their best life, “because Ezekiel is living his best life, it’s just a shallow one”, and then as Lindy and Rebecca became friends they just let them ride with it. And then Flynn/Everybody because when Flynn shows up they can torture him and have fun.
In the first episode there’s a conversation between Jenkins and Eve about Flynn’s mental state that i just LOVE. It made me fall in love with Jenkins.
That’s the idea of Jenkins, he’s been through A LOT, he’s known pain, has lost a lot and he’ll help you to help other people the way he couldn’t. [I’m crying, someone needs to hug Jenkins for like, a whole new season. I volunteer]
Did you have a favourite artefact?
They were trying to distance themselves from the movies by stopping the show from being all about artefacts. He can’t choose. But he really loved Frankenstein, loved that everyone forgets that in the book he’s actually really literate and wanted to bring him back to show his relationship with Ezekiel but the actor wasn’t available.
What are you up to currently?
After The Librarians and The Player on MBC he’s adapting the Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss for the tv.
Was the storybook episode easier or harder to write?
It was really easy once they figured out the archetypes, they wanted to subvert the tropes because they didn’t want Jacob as Prince Charming and they knew Ezekiel was Jack, so Cassandra being Prince Charming was a great clue of what would happen later on “and also, she nailed it! She was amazing, everyone was amazing”. It was very easy to write but very hard to produce.
I remember reading about an abandoned "Black Mask" idea. What was up with that?
They were thinking about doing a much more complicated time travel story (for season 1), where Eve, instead of being thrown into parallel dimensions, would be thrown back through time, and they’d later reveal that each time the “mysterious hero” that Jenkins was supposed to tell them about, appeared in time of need was actually one of the Librarians going back wearing the mask to save the day, and that Jenkins himself originally had that role.
In the episode with Dorian Grey, how difficult was it to turn the classic art story into the electronic version.
The idea came very easily, from selfies to narcissism, from that to Dorian, that’s done.
I loved your blog posts as we went through first season - thank you for that!
He said thank you.
What a great storyline that would be - the black mask - maybe if you get to do reunion movie!!?
He said that instead of looking back he’d like to move forward, what would it be like for them not to have to hide anymore.
I think the darkest episode was the Bender House, but it was really cool.
Perfect example of twisting classic stories.
Would Ezekiel have ever found aliens?
No, never! They find it too funny, in a world were everything is true, aliens are not.
Did you ever think about having a kind of "flashback" episode of Jenkins' Arthurian times? [This was mine]
[Ignoring the fact that he though I was Spanish just because I told him who played Estrella - I just Googled it, I’m weak] They did think about it, it was going to be in the season 2 finale, when Eve and Flynn go back in time, it was supposed to be a King Arthur episode, when they were to find out that Shakespeare was Merlin, find him and give him their statue so he would be the guardian of it, but then they thought it’d be cooler - and John [Larroquette] himself liked this better - if even he didn’t know what was going on and they could talk more about his longing and the loss for Flynn and Eve like everybody else, they didn’t want him to be like “let the LITs suffer thinking they’ve lost them while I know better”. [So either the episode didn’t make sense or like... Galahad was just hanging out with Merlin in the Elizabethan period?? So it wouldn’t have been “his Arthurians time”, just “hanging out with almost the only remaining buddy from Camelot”, still cool, but I meant like, middle ages]
Who came up with the Serpent Brotherhood?
It was the original writers.
He finished reminding averyone about the marathon, to tweet along because the actors will be active (he’ll personally bog John Kim so he’ll remember), he’ll be on the hashtag too. Thanked us fans and closed hoping for new The Librarians material.
Now I’m knackered, it’s stupid early in the morning here, I have yet to go to sleep, send help. (If you see any errors, please let me know!)

character: sonny open: m/f/nb plot: sonny is a surly bartender in a small, dusty town in the arizona desert. like any other night, he's working at the bar when your muse comes in. your muse can be any connection (strangers, friends, enemies, etc) as long as it's nothing t*boo or familial.
Tumblr media
it was too early in the evening for sonny to be so apathetic with his customers, but the regulars had become used to his terrible customer service. perhaps it was the twang of loretta lynn’s tinny voice from the jukebox in the corner or the worn-in seats up against the bar and the tables already filled up with its usual suspects, but the dour attitude of sonny only increased tenfold over the past few hours since he woke up for work. dropping the dishrag loudly against the bar, he looked to the customer that just sat down, “what’ll it be?” he regarded them suspiciously and spoke before they could answer, “and i’m not getting out the blender, so pick something on tap.”

character: thomas (forty-three, former therapist turned recluse, het, he/him) open: m/f/nb plot: it’s been a year since thomas’ brother, lawrence abendroth aka the biloxi butcher was arrested and true crime blogs created suspicions/conspiracies that thomas was somehow involved in his brother’s crimes. since his brother’s arrest, thomas left his home in st. louis for a cabin in vermont to get away from public scrutiny, where he spends his time in solitude with his four dogs. your muse can be any connection: neighbors, strangers, friends, true crime podcasters, murder fanatics, as long as it's not t*boo or family. this post was made using beta editor, though legacy is available by request!
Tumblr media
thomas always had a soft spot for dogs, but he never had the time as a therapist to properly take care of one. now he had nothing but time, now he had four dogs in his home: pepper, kenneth, porkchop, and applesauce. they were his only companions in his self-imposed isolation and what fine company they made. so when he saw a dog, covered in mud and foraging for food by the front door, his heart compelled him to help the dog—at the very least, allow them to eat when they’re so desperately hungry. it took an hour or so for the dog to fully trust him, but once they did, thomas decided to give them a quick bath on the porch. “poor baby,” tom frowned as he washed behind the ears, only for those ears to suddenly raise in alert. tom looked to the front steps, finding a silhouette approaching. “hello?” he called to the them, squinting slightly without his glasses on, “is this your dog?”

A Camp NaNoWriMo spoiler...
Don't click below the cut if you don't want to read it... be warned, it might not make the final cut
The altercation at the light gun cabinet had not gone unnoticed and Ishizu raised an eyebrow as she watched Thief and Pharaoh disappear out of sight. “Should someone go after them?”
Anzu considered their surroundings carefully. Bakura could be dangerous when she lost control of herself, but she was not normally inclined to lash out in public. It attracted too much attention and brought too many questions.
If they reached a spot that was shielded from the eyes of others however…
“Probably a good idea.” She bit her lower lip, “Bakura put Yugi in hospital a few months ago and I don’t really want that to happen a…oi!”
She trailed off as she was nudged by a rather rude young man, who jumped the queue to challenge the winner of the last round on the Dance Dance Revolution machine.
Mai’s glower at the teen, whose hair lay in dreadlocks and whose eyebrows were pierced, did little as he declared himself to be ‘Steps Johnny’ and the best dancer in all of Domino.
Anzu trembled slightly with the desire to challenge him and prove him wrong, but she resisted. He was not worth her time and she did not want to risk failing her friend a second time by ignoring a warning sign of something about to kick off.
“He’ll be gone by the time we get back.” She shrugged and started to move out of the queue, only to pause when Ishizu did not move. “You’re not coming?”
“I’ll hold your place in the line. It would be a shame to lose it now.” That was the excuse she used, but the offer was not truly altruistic. Ishizu did not really want to get anywhere near the Thief Queen if she was likely to kick off unless she really had to. Bakura needed Yugi alive for now, Ishizu had no such protection.
“I’ll stay with her.” Mai offered, watching the other adult in the group with narrowed eyes, able to see right through her. “But be quick.”
“Will do.” Anzu nodded and slipped into the crowd. Rebecca on the other hand, hesitated, then decided to stay with the group at the DDR machine.
“So,” Mai turned to Ishizu once it was just the three of them, “While no one can hear anyone else think over the noise in here, what’s your thing?”
Ishizu raised an eyebrow, surprised at the blonde’s audacity and amused that she would want to take advantage of the noise surrounding them to have a private conversation. “Excuse me?”
“I’ve met three others with magic, Yugi, who’s a sweetheart but whose other self is a little nuts, Bakura, who may be your best friend but might also stab you and she could do both on the same day, and Crawford, who apparently was a soul stealing, child abducting lunatic. So, what’s your thing?”
Ishizu could not help the amused chuckle as she considered her answer. Deciding to be as flippant as Mai had been, she smiled as she asked, “Honest answer or child friendly?”
Mai opened her mouth, about to say honest, then closed it again, remembering that Rebecca was only twelve. “Honest but not traumatising?”
Ishizu paused, tilted her head slightly then, “Can we swap to English?”
“You know it better?” Rebecca asked, welcoming a chance to use her own language.
“That and there’s less people around here that will be fluent, so it’ll be safer to discuss private information.” The Egyptian woman nodded, glad she had a chance to slip into a language she had more practice with. She had gotten semi-fluent in many languages during the six years that she had been forced to move around, but English and French were two of the languages she was most comfortable in, besides Arabic and Ancient Egyptian, which she had grown up speaking but knew neither of her companions would speak.
“I can do English.” Mai switched as well, “So?”
“Was born into an insane agoraphobic cult to the Nameless Pharaoh, ran away with my brothers, been hunted across the world so they can drag us back.” Ishizu offered, avoiding any mention of the necessary murder that had earned their current freedom, “And can’t be safe until a certain someone does her duty.”
“Ah, so that’s why you’ve been harassing Yugi for months.” The Harpie Duelist nodded, understanding, “You want the cult to go away.”
“Pretty much.” Ishizu was surprised at how easily her companions were accepting that, “Yugi and I had a talk last night and we realised that perhaps fighting each other isn’t the fastest way to get what we want. So we’ve agreed a truce, for now.”
“What do they cult want?” Rebecca questioned as they shuffled up the queue, slowly getting closer to the game they wanted. “The ones chasing you? Like, what’s their end game.”
“They’re supposed to pass on information to the Pharaoh that will allow her to do what she needs to do and support her through the task, but they betrayed their own and refused to accept that not everyone could cope with living underground.” Ishizu’s eyes briefly flashed amber as anger flooded through her, “There’s no way they could complete their task the way they are, not when they were still teaching the majority of the Clan that the Pharaoh was male which was a lie, and I refuse to allow them to drag my family back into the darkness.”
Which was fair.
“Once the Pharaoh does her duty, then the Clan’s task is done and there’s no reason to keep hunting my brothers and I. She just needs to use her powers and crush the thief.”
“You realise that they don’t really know anything about their past right now?” Rebecca asked, “They told me last night, that they only know what others have told them, so if they’ve got some sort of superpower, they have no idea how to use it.”
“Oh that will come when they unlock the Pharaoh’s memories. She’ll know everything she needs.” Ishizu shrugged, “Honestly? I’m looking forward to seeing if some of the rumours are true when she gets her memories back.”
“Oh?”
“Most of the records that cover the Nameless Pharaoh’s time on the throne have been destroyed over the millennia, but there’s still some interesting papyrus scrolls in the library in the catacomb.” Ishizu shrugged, “Including some information on her interactions with both the Thief Queen and her Right-Hand man back in Egypt and a chance… well… It’s been so long now, it probably doesn’t matter.”
“What doesn’t matter?”
“Well… put it this way, there could a direct descendant out there somewhere…”
“What?!”
“It would be interesting to know if that’s true. Wouldn’t it?”
