Aaaaaaahhhh!!!!! How exciting we have something in common.

My husband witnessed my reactions while reading the series. He thinks Kavinsky is so badass with his Mitsubishi 🙄 I consumed book 1-3 so fast and it took me over a month to finish TRK and he was so concerned. He asked me daily if I was going to read it.

Yes, I am definitely going the read “the Ronan trilogy” (as my husband calls it). I am so interested as to why everyone is suddenly in love with Declan. However, I’m going to take some time off. As much I want to jump right to it, I want to properly “mourn” trc (and Gansey) and read some fics.

P.S. to your friend’s point, yes, one does not simply get over RCGIII :)

Hey!! I totally understand wanting a break to digest it all and mourn and read fic and generally become unhinged on every theory and tiny detail. I just hope you can avoid spoilers! I mean... my pinned post contains a massive dreamer tril spoiler so IM SORRY! I love that your husband is so invested. The first five songs in this playlist each relate to one of the main characters. Here's why:

Algiers- The Afghan Whigs (Ronan)

This song is about Ronan for me- it sounds like street racing and dark secrets. It talks about dreaming, being held back by your sins, being set free. It seemingly speaks of the simplicity and release in understanding your own mind and reconciling with your demons.

"Dream, the body sleeps but I am not too proud to roll on the back streets. It's oh-so simple when you know."

"Dream your sins away. Sin your dreams away. You're holding back, stop holding back."

Blue Monday- cover by Flunk (Blue)

This song is a certain aspect of Blue- to me, this is books 3 and 4. The unfairness of it all. Persephone dead, Maura gone, Gansey dying, everyone leaving except Blue. No future as a psychic. No future at 300 Fow Way. Curses and lies and secrets. The terribleness of having true love and knowing you would lose it. The awfulness of having to plan for a life After.

Halfway to Nowhere- Chelou (Adam)

This song is the tired Adam of most of the series, running from his past, scared and angry, but mostly tired. Feeling stuck. Unsure of what he wants. Sure he will never fit in. And most of all, wanting. Wanting so badly that he makes a deal with an unknown supernatural forest. Wanting to a point of oblivion.

"How do you get out of bed in the morning? How do you wake to carry the day?"

"I'm still halfway to nowhere. I'm still nothing today."

"They tell me 'good things come to those who wait.' To speed the process along I came to tempt fate."

Far from Home- Sam Tinnesz (RCGIII)

Ok so this one isn't so much of a character song as it is a moment in someone's story- to me, Far from Home is the soundtrack to the climax of Gansey's story. It's his solo drive out of Henrietta after a flock of supernatural Ravens, back to where it is always beginning and ending. It's his yearning to finish his quest and fear of what comes next. It's his desire to find somewhere he can finally call home. It's his suspicion of what it means to speak on the corpse road on St. Mark's Eve. The song has urgency and uncertainty that totally encapsulate the moment.

"I'm so far from home... not where I belong."

The Quiet- Chelou (Noah)

This one is the most on-point one for me. Noah. His involvement in everyone's fate is only revealed at the end of the story, but in the last few books as his decaying mind is exposed, you catch a glimpse of his sad existence; he knows all and can say nothing. He remembers living, and he remembers dying, and he can do neither.
