Trivia Tuesday

Who says Trivia Tuesday is only for written works?

I have been putting this off for 3 months but I wanted to share this compilation of my favorite moments from my Daylight video for Griffin x Valtor and do some commentary on them, talk about the process behind this video.

*I chose to overlay the song from the beginning instead of making you listen to the different segments that go with the footage smashed together in a cacophony. Here's the full video if you want to reference which parts of the song correspond to the respective segments.

There is no reason for me to bring this up other than that in the og video the line "you and I drink the poison from the same vine" just so happens to play while this is going on. I swear that was not on purpose. I chose the vine attack against Valtor because of the dark green glow around the stem which looks like Griffin's magic in order to make this more convincing... and then I realized that this moment happened right as that lyric was playing.

This whole segment starting from Griffin and Faragonda and then switching to Valtor in his lonely tower before Griffin contacts him because she wants to talk to him too and can't tear herself away is just so wistful and nostalgic and the music (especially in the actual video) only adds to that vibe. They're both brooding - out of the daylight - because they despise their obsession with each other but still can't help it.

I especially love that he proceeds to break into Alfea to talk to her and she blasts him with a vortex of books because she sensed his presence (I just didn't include that part in this compilation because then I'd have to post the entire video). It is a headcanon that I've had for a while that because they were partners for so long and the Dragon Fire is the most powerful magic which created the whole universe, Griffin has learned to home in on his magical signature because she can distinguish it from anyone else's.

I find this moment utterly hilarious. I don't really have anything else to say about it but I guess I can share the process of picking the dialogue for the video. Valtor's lines were easier to pick because they mostly come from a couple of scenes but I had to scour the entire season 1 (aka every scene with Griffin) to figure out which of Griffin's lines can be useful and then I had to piece together actual conversations from them, the one above being my magnum opus.

I simply enjoy the way I made these two different scenes fit together into one to make it look like his whole "teleporting in your chair" shtick happens right in front of Griffin's and the viewer's eyes. This is why I love video editing!

This one! Oh, this was a legendary moment for me! A whole new step in my video making career. I feel like I unlocked a whole new part of my brain when I realized that I could use the mirror effect to showcase Griffin's spell creating her clone. I have never used the mirror effect before and finding such great application for it that adds to the story (because I wasn't sure my idea with the spell was coming through before I came up with this) was certainly a highlight of my video making process.

Kind of on the other end of the spectrum this is here because I wanted to explain that the vortex is the portal that Griffin opens to sneak back to her office and catch Valtor off guard while he's watching her clone. I wasn't sure all of that was clear but I was running out of ideas, mental energy and remaining seconds from the song so I kind of had to speedrun that if I wanted to fit everything in the video.

I thought Valtor deserved a taste of his own medicine (aka payback for the illusion spell he used on Griffin, Faragonda and Saladin at Light Rock lake). Is this scenario realistic? Mayhaps not. But! Griffin used to study under Lysslis with him so she could have picked up some very convincing illusion magic too!

I'm thinking that perhaps I would have been able to provide more insight into the video and my thoughts on it if I had written this back in January when I could still remember the process of making this but it is what it is. I got to talk about it again and rediscover some of the joys that this particular video brought to me which was fun! And now this post works as a throwback to refresh all our memory on my latest efforts in video making before we see where I go from here.

what’s in the gaang’s youtube history 📺

aang likes videos of people doing impressive skateboard tricks, video game speedruns, heartwarming videos titled smth like "WATCH THIS TO HAVE YOUR FAITH IN HUMANITY RESTORED", unlikely animal friends, cats being silly, puppies running around, comedy sketches with high production value, and whatever else 12 year old boys watch on youtube (lego??? minecraft??? pokemon??? i .... don't actually know)

katara is addicted to youtube almost as much as she is addicted to twitter. she watches so many longass videos on social/political issues and then tweets the creators about how one hour and forty three minutes into the video they stated an opinion that she personally disagreed with, and she demands an apology. she also loves elaborate makeup tutorials that she would never even bother to attempt to replicate (but she likes to think that maybe one day if she gets invited to the met gala, she now has some looks to choose from)

sokka's youtube library is extremely eclectic. he can't stop clicking on videos titled shit like "intro to particle physics" just to watch the entire thing and be like "why did i watch this i knew all that already." but yknow. he just had to make sure. he's a big fan of chris fleming, and he's made all his friends watch "gigi the christmas snake" multiple times. he's gone down a lot of rabbitholes in his day, but his personal favorite side of youtube is the videos of chemical reactions, especially the ones that end in an explosion.

toph occasionally enjoys listening to longass video essays about obscure topics, but mostly she just listens to podcasts. she’s also partial to this one video that’s just the sound of a chainsaw revving on a 10 hour loop, and she plays it at just the right volume that her parents will be like “what’s that awful noise?” to which she innocently responds “i don’t hear anything” and they’re like “oh no you must be able to hear it, it’s so annoying” and toph’s like “are you sure? it sounds normal to me.” she tries this on katara once, but katara gets so frustrated that she just yells “oh wow didn’t realize you were blind AND deaf” and that leads them to get in a very violent brawl in which toph’s nose is nearly broken, so she decides to limit this particular gambit to the company of her parents only.

zuko exclusively uses youtube to watch cute animal videos. otherwise, he's terrified he'll accidentally click on something that might potentially radicalize him, since he read somewhere that the algorithm was designed to do that, or worse, direct him to one of those content farm generated animations of elsa getting a c section, which is apparently also a concern. frankly, the internet scares him, and he tries to avoid it as much as possible.

suki watches npr tiny desks, kexp live, lofi hip hop anime beats to relax/study to, and best of vine compilations. anything on youtube that isn't music or shortform comedy simply does not interest her.

to boost her platform, ty lee decides to go on a reality show. she pretends to be a vapid airhead, but is actually very subtly manipulating not only the other contestants, but also the crew. she walks away from the whole experience with double the number of instagram followers (she already had a sizable amount) and a huge bag. anyway, azula goes through a phase of obsessively watching a lot of clips from. that

mai is indebted to the guy who reuploaded all the “patti reviews exotic animals” videos after they got taken down from the original channel. her favorite youtube video of all time though is nathan fielder thin watermelon. she rewatches it at least once a week

ty lee’s youtube history is just meditation playlists and also the goriest true crime stories she can find #justgirlythings <3

yue loves the artful simplicity of those animated tedx videos. they’ve led her down a lot of really interesting research rabbitholes. she promised katara she’d stop sending them to sokka though after he spent the next month telling her about nothing but eel mating habits and lesser known facts about genghis khan

iroh only uses youtube to watch recordings of tea ceremonies and isn’t even aware that there are other types of videos on the platform. ignorance is truly bliss

jet exclusively watches videos with the word “callout” in the title. the longer and more contrived, the better

You wouldn't say John's class is your absolute favorite..you keep getting lost in your thoughts, listening to him. The only thing you love about his class is..well..him. You could listen to his voice for hours, but the material just flies over your head.

-..don't forget to leave your essays on my desk on the way out! See you next week.

Wait. What essay. Wait. Oh fuck. Your eyes widened. That essay that you told yourself you gonna start working on..and then you ended up watching 8 hours long vine compilation....shit. You panic. EVERYONE has it. They all did their essays...Means you gotta walk up to..John...and talk to him......one on one.....you and John....alone............as thoughts keep piling up inside your head, half of your classmates already handed in. The moment of doom is getting closer...your palms, oh no, sweating. Heartbeat rising. Okay. You can do it. Almost everyone is gone. Just tell him some excuse or whatever....

You get up from your seat and approach him. He looks at you with a little smile on his face, while you're looking at the pile of essays.

-essay?

-oh, right! Here it is!

You start searching in your bag and then..aha! You take nothing out of your bag and put it on top of the pile

-here!

John chuckles.

-well that's new! You don't have it, do you?

You sigh, looking down

-no, professor..

-did you forget to bring it?

-I...forgot...about it..completely.

-oh...

He looks a bit disappointed.

-I thought you were one of few people who actually listen to me..

Your heart drops a little.

-woah, no, of course I listen! I love listening to you!

-do you?

-professor, your lectures are my favorite.

Dirty liar. He gives you an awkward smile

-I..I always look at how carefully you listen..it gives me motivation.

You blush a little and notice how his eyes shift to the side.

-glad I could be helpful..

You say quietly.

-that essay..uhm..it's fine. You can have another week. I'll just pretend you handed it in with everyone else.

He keeps looking away, slightly biting his lip. You become excited and he instantly looks at you.

-thank you, John!

He grabs his tie, trying to loosen it up a bit. Your smile made him crave for some fresh air. Oh boy is it getting hot in here???

-yes! Sure! Uhm..I...I hope you have a good day..

-you too! I'll leave you be now. You're the best, professor.

-I am..?

He murmurs, watching you leave

-wait!

His face instantly changes, as he realizes he made a mistake. Wait for what?? What were you going to say, John???

-yeah?

You stop and look at him.

-w-would you..uhm...would you like me to help you..?

-help me..?

-with your essay!

His voice sounded enthusiastic for a second. Just a second, before it hit him, the words that just escaped his mouth.

-you want..to help me with the essay..for your lecture..?

You smile at him, a bit confused. The sheer panic in his eyes. He swallows. His hand stroking the back of his neck.

-yeah..?

-that sounds a bit unfair!

-y-you think? I'm just gonna..give you some directions..? Maybe...

He's losing hope. Definitely losing hope over here. A damn crazy idea appears in your head.

-John..?

-....yeah?

-would you like to meet up after work and just..you know..chill? No essay help needed, we can just chat..or something..I'd love to listen to you some more..

Wow! Well, someone had to take the initiative here and it surely wasn't going to be John. He's frozen by the way. Absolutely stunned. After saying those words outloud it's not like YOU look perfectly fine.

-yes. Let's meet. And chat. Or something.

He suddenly sounds very reserved.

-yeah?

-yes. Now, if you'll excuse me.

-ah, sure! Uhm, see you later then?

-later. Yes.

You're a bit confused..is he happy or what? Did you make the wrong move..? You leave the room, not sure how to feel... John knows how to feel, though. As soon as you close the door, he bursts out laughing. He's smiling, growling into his hands. Oh god! He's about to start dancing. The smile doesn't leave his face. Phew, what a day..and it's about to get so much better..

These are my Traitor!Kaminari head cannons! (Just for my story tho)

He has no faith in heroes, at all.

Respects and fears AfO in an equal caliber

Incredibly smart, agile, more flexible than strong (still pretty strong), and has great reflexes. (That's what you get when you're trained by AfO I guess)

Doesn't like knives and hospitals (Will be explained more further in the story)

Avoids getting too attached to people. (He does this by being an asshole to everyone, he can't really do that in U.A tho)

Thinks that all heroes are money-loving, self-centered, fame hogging pricks. That they don't actually care about the citizens and are only after the glory.

He especially hates All Might, who Denki thinks is a liar for saying he would be there for anyone who needs saving. And the fact that All Might defaced his mentor slash parent and also unknowingly caused the death of hundreds of children in that faithful day didn't bode well with Denki's already negative outlook on him. (More about 'that faithful day' in the future ;))

Has Lichtenberg figures (lightning-like scars) all over his body, they were from his quirk back when he couldn't control it yet (or when he was forced to overuse his quirk)

His quirk doesn't have a limit, but his body does. Overuse of his quirk causes blood vessels to burst thus giving him Lichtenberg scars. Most just disappear overtime but the are some (see below) that becomes permanent because of how much he's damaged the vessels there.

The most prominent ones are on his arms and the one that starts from his left collar to his right cheek. (They also glow whenever he uses his quirk, cuz why not? Let's make him cooler than he already is shall we?)

He doesn't hide it from anyone, even at U.A, cause he thinks it's unnecessary (he regrets it though, [see chapter two of TTOS])

Pretty much an empty shell with the sole purpose of serving AfO and annoying Shigaraki. (And you if you got to read the first version of TTOS you'll know the other reason heh)

Kurogiri is the only League member that Denki could actually tolerate (and maybe Dabi)

Actually likes making people scream (not because he's a closet sadist) it's because it drowns out his own internal screaming... And other stuff. He likes the momentary takeover, the silence that their screams brings him.

Doesn't really feel anything whenever he kills anyone. No sympathy, no mercy, no guilt, no disgust, no satisfaction, no joy, no nothing. He's killed too many times and he's been through hell to even feel anything. (Still gets occasional nightmares about it though)

Pretty sure he has Stockholm syndrome (he doesn't realize it though), anxiety, and depression. (I like to think he has medication for the last two)

He accidentally causes a blackout when he's too mad so he lets out steam by beating up his punching bag with the face of the person he's mad at attached to it (usually it's Shigaraki's face)

Had to watch every single vine and meme compilation he could find to play his part at U.A well.

Has a soft spot for children but doesn't dare show it to anyone (including AfO)

a while back people requested that i share some of my headcanons for certain bnha characters, so here's some of the characters that i did

Shota Aizawa

- he absolutely has at LEAST 3 cats, he spoils the heck out of them too. that's why he's always eating those gel packs... he spends too much on his cats.

- he really does love his class. and we all know honey??? u haven't expelled any of them. ur soft for them ok.

- he likes to sleep with his cats bc he gets lonely at night... he will not admit it, but he likes having someone/something there :)

- he has reuccuring nightmares about the usj attack and how he could have failed to save his students

- has a very low alcohol tolerance and often ends up getting dragged back to his apartment by mic or midnight when they go out whilst he rambles and whines the entire time

- he hates crying and tries his best to keep his emotions held in, he's only cried in front of a select few people

- he tries not to let others opinions on him rule his life and tends to block it out if someone hates him

- he doesn't know it, but he is the entirety of class 1-a's dad.

- he really likes tea, and dislikes sweets

- as you would expect, he takes his coffee black

Hanta Sero

- he really likes kpop! he stans multiple groups and really wants to attend a concert

- though he seems really chill on the outside, he's actually quite sensitive and has some self confidence issues

- he loves being around people and finds that he gets his energy from being around those he loves

- definitely into e-boy fashion, and he is open about it

- pierced his own ears at 3 am and called kaminari crying about how he screwed it up

- he actually likes to draw a lot in his free time, it's very relaxing. he puts on some nice low-fi music and draws for hours

- he hasn't had many crushes in his life and doesn't find romance to be a big issue currently, but he's open to anything

- accidentally taped his hamster to the ceiling in 2nd grade, he didn't mean to and cried for hours (the hamster was ok)

Nemuri Kayama

- she is a BRO, she likes to crack a cold one open with the boys on the weekends

- she is bisexual and thinks everyone is beautiful in their own unique ways

- most likely talks shit about her coworkers to her classes

- she thinks children are adorable and loves them, often scaring them with her enthusiasm

- very touchy, she loves hugs and will probably not pass up a chance to use you as an armrest if she has the chance

- she secretly worries about aizawa a lot and is scared that he lets the past effect him too much

- did you guys know she has a cat?!

- i like to think she and mic are like... EPIC bros, she loves to paint his nails and do his hair while gossiping with him (aizawa would NEVER let her do this to him lmao)

- she isn't a mom, but finds the idea of having her own children very nice, for now having a cat will suffice

- she enjoys trying to make all might flustered, she thinks his reactions to things are always very cute and funny (it's all in good fun!)

- she's the mom friend! though she may seem very sexual, which she undoubtedly is, she is also very caring and has a very nuturing motherly personality, she's a lot more than just fanservice !!!!!

Todoroki Shoto

- completely oblivious when it comes to love... he doesn't even understand his own crushes

- "of course you can borrow my credit card uraraka" *pulls out endeavors card which he sneakily took*

- would be the person to tell a child that their pet guinea pig didn't go to heaven and be confused when they start sobbing... like "what... don't be honest?"

- allows his friends to huddle up to his warm side when they are cold

- is confused when people show him copious amounts of love and affection

- he would beat up anyone if they tried to do ANYTHING bad to midoriya

- he wants more friends. he really is enjoying meeting new people and having some new friends at ua!

- he gives really good hugs, he doesn't try to hug you too tight, but he doesn't half ass it either, very nice and warm

- he hates his scar. like. a lot. he wants to cover it up so bad but it just doesn't work. he's afraid it'll make other people scared of him.

Shinsou Hitoshi

- loves patd! and fall out boy, a brendon urie STAN

- loves to kiss his kitties on the forehead but dreads human interaction

- he loves to squish his cats' toebeans... he takes pictures of them and posts them to his secret cat social media acc

- he is gay but doesn't know how to feel about it and/or come out, he's really nervous and doesn't trust people to accept him

- he doesn't smile often but when he does it's the cutest thing ever

- he secretly really likes deku and kaminari and is hesitant about accepting their friendship, but appreciates the gestures a lot

- he suffers with social anxiety and doesn't really know how to make friends very well??? like, in middle school people were total dickbags to him so he kinda just closed himself off and decided he was gonna like... not make friends, but now that there's nice people around him he just kind of- doesn't know how

- this is actually canon! but he feels guilty about having to manipulate people when he uses his quirk, during the 4th school briefs book he feels guilty when he overhears midoriya and ojiro talking about him using his quirk during the sports festival, and he's like "i wish ojiro would say something rude about me to show he's angry so i wouldn't have to feel so guilty about this" since ojiro showed no ill feelings towards him

Izuku Midoriya

- "hold on I'll go get a blanket!" *opens closet* *thousands of all might figurines tumble out*

- watches cat vine compilations until 2 am, than freaks out when he realizes it is 2 am

- very good with children!

- used to be very self conscious about his freckles bc of bakugou insulting them; hid them with concealer for a while until someone told him they were beautiful

- loves his momma so muchhh he would do anything for her, he likes to surprise her with small favors to see her happy

- does not understand the concept of letting people handle their own problems

- stays after to class to offer his teachers help

- he has a lot of self doubts and is still struggling to this day to come to terms with the fact that he is worthy of having one for all

- he wants to learn how to cook for his mom and friends

Kyoka Jirou

- she is a lesbian!!!!! she has a crush on momo but is completely convinced that it's unrequited

- struggled with judgmental kids in middle school because of her sexual identity and style

- gets very easily flustered by anyone complimenting her

- that one person sitting at the back of the bus with their earbuds blasting full volume

- was a GOD at guitar hero

- acts like she's fed up with kaminari's (which she can be sometimes), but truly he's one of the people she can trust the most. she secretly appreciates the way he hypes up her talents and how he really helps her through the day sometimes!

- she loves heroes so much... when she was a little girl and didn't know what to do she'd ask herself "what would my favorite heroes do!?"

- she also secretly buys hero merch but hides it in fear of her being seen as sappy

Amajiki Tamaki

- would have trouble standing up for himself but if he sees ANYONE messing with mirio he WILL throw hands

- likes to watch bob ross videos when hes feeling anxious

- he once went to a butterfly museum with his parents and cried out of joy when one landed on his nose

- leaves food out for strays in his neighborhood, ends up attracting an entire hoard of animals.

- he can paint very nicely, he began to paint after he discovered bob ross

- mirio then saw his paintings and showed the entire class to tamaki's dismay, but everyone absolutely LOVED them!!!

- every day he becomes more and more capable and sure of himself, he is still very anxious, but he's learning to open up and embrace his talents <3

- he really loves to listen to music and any time he's not around others he'll probably have earbuds in, gently swaying back and forth to whatever he has on

- nejire loves to try out new hairstyles on him, and strangely enough, tamaki lets her, he loves it when people play with his hair

Shirakumo Oboro

- shares one collective braincell with mic

- that one person that brings EVERYONE valentine treats on valentines day at school

- most likely plays ding dong ditch

- *draws stick figure* "ah yes. just like van goh" (he cannot draw)

- hates to see his friends (and even random strangers upset) and will go out of his way to do dumb things to make them smile

- probably played soccer

- he's a massive flirt and likes to believe he will become a stereotypical anime protagonist with a massive harem

- he really wants to see aizawa come out of his shell more and tries his best to encourage him to see the best in everything

- he has most likely worn a schoolgirl uniform to class once

- he's very affectionate and loves to hug his friends (even if they don't want hugs), it's his way of showing he likes people

Hizashi Yamada

- he lives off of caffeine. he is a teacher, pro hero, and radio show host, im honestly not sure how he does it

- gives out stickers when students get the correct answer in class and has class parties when they are well behaved for the semester

- just like everyone else, he has his own turmoil as well, he likes to stay busy because it prevents him from having a lot of time to dwell on the past

- he gives really good hugs, and loves to feel the touch of others, it's very comforting to him

- was probably pretty troublesome when he was very young while he learned to get control of his quirk

- overall a really happy and excitable guy, he loves being the center of attention and if he can make people happy by being what he is, that's awesome!

- he shows his appreciation for people in odd ways, but he always means good, even if his wild antics can be a bit stressful lol

- he likes to sing a lot and does it a bunch when he's alone, he can also play a lot of instruments

- he can be very serious if needed, he does often put on a persona when he's present mic

- when he's hizashi (out of hero persona) he's even more of a dork than usual, very goofy, awkward and pouty. a manchild.

deanstar ik this is a really personal ask and you don't have to answer if this makes you uncomfortable but how did you know you were trans? I'm questioning my gender identity and idk if i'm overthinking things or not

i can tell youre from the confessions blog... on a real note doe. uhhh i dont actually know for sure? i think i found compilations of lgbt vines or something and i joined tmblr arpund maybe. late middle school (7th-8th grade) it got me thinking abt gender and stuff.

initially i thiught i was genderfluid, i tried different pronouns and stuff. at first i did hop on as a trend bc i was young and didn't want to be an 'evil cishet' (nothing wrong w being cishet!) but anyways i eventually discovered that i was trans and later figured out i was a binary trans guy.

there's a lot of overthinking, ive had plenty of 'what if im faking' moments. These feelins amplify during puberty as well because i had many thoughts that were like 'oh what if its just a hormonal imbalance and im faking it for attention' and it sucked but after like. maybe 5 or 6 years im pretty confident that i'm a trans guy.

its your journey and being trans is different for everybody so i cant tell you what exactly you will feel, but i can give some advice: try different pronouns (if youre not already), try different names if you want, think long term (would you be most comfortable being an old woman, an old man, or an old enby? how do you see yourself when you think of the future?), mess with gender presentation, etc.

maybe watch videos by trans people. get various perspectives. watch tiktok compilations. dig through some tags, see if things click. see if you feel thst 'oh, i do that too' thing.

it's tough at times and there's nothing wrong with realizing that a certain label/identity didn't fit like you thought it would. sometimes it takes a while to find yourself. but when you do, it's like the weight of the world is jusf lifted off your shoulders. it'll stll be tough, ther's obstacles (like whether or not you're able to transition. various things can prevent one from medically/surgically transitioning such as pre-existing medical conditions, money, or personal choice) but at least you know who you are and who you're gonna be.

Cousin Punk "Ruth" Addams

Age: 35

Gender: Bigender (she/her he/him)

Sexuality: Asexual panromantic

Details: Spikes on her jacket's shoulders, back of jacket says "Be Trans Commit Arson"

Personality: Passionate, intense, Chaotic Good, acts angry but is actually really compassionate, driven, chivalrous but like modern chivalry, he doesn't associate with the Harry Potter books whatsoever but if he did he'd be a Gryffindor

Hobbies: This is the part where I realize I define so much of her personality with rioting, activivism, and loving his partners, that I never actually gave her any hobbies

Here is my friend's digital painting that i asked for him to draw. And below is a long explanation...because I can and because I want to.

This is inspired from a very personal photo that I thought would've gone to rot along this phone. I was wrong. It actually inspired me to write a short poem.

But before my friend proceeded to create this, he asked me a few research questions:

The first one was why I wanted to immortalize this piece of memory, knowing that this is one of the many triggers that led to some of my recent breakdowns. LINAWIN KO LANG: one of the MANY triggers ha, not the sole reason. 🙂

I told him that I don't want this wonderful memory to become a painful one. So much so, that I would desperately want it out of my brain.

It was a nice night and I want to keep it like that.

I don't want it to be less or more than that. I don't want it to be insignificant, but i also don't want it to have the power of negatively altering me.

Second question was how I've been processing this emotion. I answered so confidently and told him that I don't…at all. Haha! I just accept its existence at the moment.

And I work hard not to mind it in the hopes that someday, my brain finally gets tricked and labels that moment with a tag saying: "no immediate relevance". But if it gets really bad, I watch Vine compilations to distract me. SO in there, you will see some Vine references.

Anyway...pretty, right?

I created because of a spike of emotions -- nothing more, nothing less -- because I realized that by allowing whatever shit I'm currently stirred up by to manifest in its truest form, I lessen its blow...by accepting that unconscious, unnattended, and ugly residuals can appear in a timeline that it shouldn't be involved at if i don't respect its facticity.

Okay so I'm actually at the point now where I think TikTok is pretty alright. It had some immediate detractors and that kind of rubbed off on me but for the most part it's come to be its own thing. So I found a TikTok compilation a little bit ago, which meant basically finding vines that I'd never seen before, just under a different name.

Was a very specific joke about a song from the early-mid 2010's which meant I for sure listened to it a lot when it was popular. Turns out it was Hey Mama by David Guetta, and the line (yes I do the cooking, yes I do the cleaning, plus I keep the nana real sweet for your eating) was from Nicki Minaj. Standard 2014 faire.

(btw despite everything the song David Guetta later did with Nicki, Turn me On, is legit good and I have no clue why but it's easily one of my favorite songs by Guetta and that includes everything he did with Sia. But only if you go with the interpretation that the song is about a robot or alien. Or I have shit taste. Anyway not important).

So I forgot what the song was because it's been 5 years since I've thought about it (holy shit), so I looked up the lyric in question. In the process I found this amazing headline (the actual article sucks).

Why did I cry laughing at this headline? Was it because of how absolutely pure that is on the part of the kid? Was it because "for visitors"? Was it the mental image of a bunch of adults being like "oh okay so we have to listen to this for a while"? Nobody will know.

The actual article is not worth your time though. It's mostly this woman gasping and grabbing at pearls because her kid has misinterpreted lyrics that she wouldn't know the meaning of anyway and considering it a moral outcry, or even worse a failing on the kid's part? With great quotes such as:

"Dance music behemoth David Guetta’s “Hey Mama,” featuring the pornographic vocal stylings of Nicki Minaj, is decidedly not a song about motherhood. Actually, it might be a song about unintended eventual motherhood, but let’s leave that pee stick aside for now." (I can *smell* the tone behind the word "pornographic" there. Also, ew)

Kids are very understanding if you talk to them like humans, and if you tell them why you don't want them doing x thing, they'll probably be fine unless you demand or they really had their heart set. Shaming behind their back because they're just wanting to follow trends and don't know what any of it means is not okay. There's a full musical about why shaming instead of educating is such a bad thing, all parents should know the plot of Spring Awakening.) (Also I didn't know that heels were the sl*tty option? I just thought that it was a thing for women to wear for some reason that I never understand and for little girls to try on because they like pretending they're older. And they still don't know why you think this is a bad thing.)

This didn't mean to be a rant, I just realized that an article I died at was actually advocating for not getting what little girls like while also shaming them for what they like for, as far as they can see, no reason.
