the self-concept
Tumblr media
hellour! this is gonna be a long post!
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
i was studying for my social psychology course today (for context i'm a psych major) and read something that might be helpful for everyone who's been having doubts about manifestation subconsciously being part of our everyday lives—as opposed to something made up by the internet.
the information i'm about to provide is from actual sociologists and psychologists, so this is rooted in studies. i promise i'm not about to pull info out of my ass! this is mainly just a very very brief summary of the self concept chapter we're reading about in class.
side note, i named all the researchers in case you wanna check out their work yourself! i made this post to provide insight about our self-concept and clear limiting beliefs. :)
what is self-concept?
so we hear the term self-concept a lot in the manifestation community. Neville, Edward, Sammy, Dr Joe Dispenza, bloggers on tumblr… all of them talk about it all the time. but what does it actually mean?
the self-concept refers to the total sum of beliefs that people have about themselves. it consists of cognitive molecules that social psychologist Hazel Markus called self-schemas. these are the beliefs about ourselves that guide the processing of self relevant information. but what does this actually mean?
well, self-schemas are to the self-concept what books are to a library. if someone asks about yourself, you will probably answer with something quick like: “i am a woman” or “i am a student.” those simple attributes are part of your self-schema; if we want to go deeper, body weight is also a self-schema. for people who regard weight as a crucial part of their beliefs, something simple like a gym trip with friends or buying stuff at the supermarket may trigger thoughts about the self. but if a person is aschematic (not concerned by a certain attribute) about body weight, no thoughts will pop up.
we already know that the self is a special object of our attention. whether its a thought or a song, our consciousness is like a spotlight. this means that it can shine on one object at one point in time, yet shift rapidly from one object to another and process information outside of awareness. in this spotlight, the self is at the forefront of our minds. its what's most important to us at that moment. keep this in mind for later!
to finish with the explanations, neurologist Oliver Sacks highlighted two important points about the self:
🩷 there is a private “inner” self, and an “outer” self we show to others. if we don’t self reflect to understand how were feeling, how will we understand our emotions and actions?
🩷 the self is heavily influenced by social factors.
now–what does that last point mean? well, what we think about ourselves is rooted from childhood. if we grow up hearing “you’ll never amount to anything” or “you’re my favorite child” (extreme examples i know), then that's what we’ll ingrain in our self-concept. this notion brings me to the fun stuff–the studies!
is self-concept scientifically proven?
psychologist Gordon Gallup performed a series of studies where he put animals in front of a mirror to test if they could recognize themselves. at first, they vocalized and greeted themselves in the mirror (my dog did this too when he was a pup, he would bark at his own reflection and play with it), but after several days, only great apes seemed capable of self recognition, using the mirror just like any other human would. grooming themselves, making faces… in short, they recognized themselves!
why do i bring this experiment up? well, this proves that the concept of “me” is necessary to define our self-concept. we must first recognize ourselves as Something to become Someone.
using that same study in humans, this process of self-recognition begins between 18-24 months. which means that from this point onwards we start to define Self (consciousness).
you might read this and–admittedly–think: “oh this blog post hasn’t said anything about manifestation!” true, but i want to present the basics or self-concept first to understand how it affects our daily thoughts!
there was another experiment we talked about in one of my lectures (i do not remember who performed this study specifically, but Dr Patrick Heck did one similar to this one and the results were the same), where participants were told to take a test. half of them were told to boast about themselves, and the rest were instructed to describe themselves modestly. naturally, participants who spoke highly of themselves scored higher on these tests than participants who didn’t. so… you all see where i’m going with this.
remember how i said to keep the “consciousness is a spotlight” paragraph in mind? i’ll finally touch on it with this next and last thing i’m gonna talk about (in this post at least!).
we already established that the first step in the evolution of our self-concept is the ability to recognize ourselves as Someone. the second step, however, involves social factors. sociologist Charles Horton Cooley introduced the term looking-glass self to suggest that other people serve as a mirror in which we see ourselves. and another sociologist by the name of George Herbert added that the only way to know ourselves is by imagining the opinions of our significant others and applying them to our self-concepts. sounds familiar?
how do i change my self-concept?
Neville mentioned the “mirror-self” on his conferences too. he said that one of his favorite techniques to better his Self was to imagine a loved one speaking kindly of himself. in his book Your Faith is Your Fortune, Neville wrote: “Stop trying to change the world since it is only the mirror. Man’s attempt to change the world by force is as fruitless as breaking a mirror in the hope of changing his face. Leave the mirror and change your face. Leave the world alone and change your conceptions of yourself. The reflection then will be satisfactory.”
since the self-concept is a library (our perception of Self) made out of self-schemas (books brought to us by our peers), we can see that sometimes, what we think of ourselves is just an amalgamation of beliefs implanted to us by the people in our lives. so if we were given these books we don’t like, why should we keep them in our library?
to change these negative beliefs we have about ourselves, all we have to do is replace them with positive ones. i know, i know, this is what every person who studies loa and manifestation regurgitates over and over. its nothing that hasn’t been posted to numerous blogs or twitter threads before.
however, the point about this whole post is to tell you why that is the only way to change your self-concept. if your daily thoughts are filled with phrases like: “my sp doesn’t want me” and “i’m so broke” or “what’s the point? this is all worthless anyways.” STOP. DROP. CHANGE.
journal. write your limiting beliefs in your ipad, paper, wood, stone–whatever.
use your hands to apply muscle memory. once you have them, CROSS THEM OUT!
i can’t manifest = I CAN MANIFEST EVERYTHING I WANT
i hope i shift tonight = I KNOW I SHIFT EVERY NIGHT
i wish i had money = I HAVE ALL THE MONEY I WANT AND MORE
just those small changes are enough to rewire your entire self-concept. also, exposure. the more exposure you have to something, the more insecure it will make you. if you’re having a hard time manifesting, remove all blogs, twitter accounts, and people that limit your beliefs. less exposure to negativity = less negativity reflected in your self-concept.
problems with the Self will always be there. if you remove a negative belief, another will pop up. all you can do is learn more about your “inner” self and recognize how you’re feeling. what you can do is focus on the positives, and automatically, your self-concept will change.
persist in the assumption until it becomes your reality!

thank you all for making it this far! just in case, the book i got this information from is Social Psychology 11th Edition authored by Kassin, Fein and, H.R. Markus. there’s a lot of interesting information on this academic book that is similar to the ones Dr Joe Dispenza has written, so i could make another post like this in the future! take care!

SHIFTING VAUNT,
I'm so grateful for discovering shifting, so incredibly grateful to myself for bouncing back in believing every time. I'm grateful for manifestation, I'm so grateful I manifested my list of beliefs already, like, it's already within me—every thing that I shift for is within me. All my 'blockages' are simply obstacles that I can pass through, they are not me, in any shape or form, nor in any formless energy. I release them for they were never mine to begin with, I was influenced. I let go. I rip open my subconscious to let the solution flow in; my affirmations, my gratefulness, my love, my everything, myself. Shifting is for me, it's effortless and it's formless. Just as I am. I am. I am. I am. I love how I don't feel fear when shifting! (Because why would I?) I don't even question it, I knooooow it's mine, I know it's real. I thoroughly believe even if other people say otherwise, even if any other "I believe. . ." prayer says otherwise. I believe in shifting. I love the process of shifting! It's like walking through a door, or going under water. It's all calm and tranquil, and so, incredibly quick. And news flash, I can do that effortlessly. It's not even a news flash, it's normal for me. I've been doing it ever since I was a child, ever since I was born. It is my birthright, no other law or paper work can say other wise.
I love shifting so much. And shifting loves me just as much.

shifting. the pineal gland!! —☆
— I thought I should share some stuff I’ve read about quantum science that relates to shifting ^_^ this is all from the book “Quantum Science of Psychedelics: The Pineal Gland, Multidimensional Reality, and Mayan Cosmology” by Carl John Calleman, ph.d —
*read in order!*

my notes!!
- seeing flashing lights is a common shifting symptom. which makes sense cause it’s from the pineal gland, which is the holder of consciousness (damn so I guess if u see flashing lights ur doing something right)
- Reya Singh talks about gaining cosmic energy to shift realities thru meditation too (pls check out her youtube I highly recommend!)
- anyways I highly recommend this book to shifters!! next post will be about frequencies/brainwaves

OKOK,
if you’ve been trying to shift forever, and haven’t gotten “close”, here’s what helped me!
ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
the main thing that helped me shift (my second time), was reprogramming my mind. i think it will help a lot of you all who haven’t shifted successfully yet!
the og video got removed but i really recommend reya singh’s 4-day reprogramming method. (there’s a new version on youtube)
also- side note, for motivation i def rec shimmey shay’s dr update vids. (ESPECIALLY THE ELANA DR) omfg- they’re so hilarious and the way they passionately tell the stories makes me feel like they’re actually telling me these face to face.

day 4 of reya singh’s 4-day mind reprogramming process! .𖥔 ݁ ˖ִ ࣪⚝₊ ⊹˚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
day 4: today is the day you will shift. anchor this firmly in your mindset. as you go through your day and routine, consciously connect every action to shifting. drinking water, brushing your teeth, showering, watching tv, breathing, eating— associating literally every activity, no matter how mundane, to bringing you closer to shift. even negative experiences can be reframed as stepping stones toward this goal. let this relentless positive focus saturate your consciousness. this day takes you into your desired reality.
Tumblr media
alright!! this is technically not day 4 as it would’ve been monday the 5th not today (tuesday 6th) so, excuse that, i’ll explain. anyway! before we get into this, i just want to state: no, i did not shift, but maybe got close. this attempt is similar to another. i will explain what happened and my overall thoughts about this process. long post!! (˘ŏ_ŏ)
Tumblr media
⋆⋅☆⋅⋆what happened?⋆⋅☆⋅⋆
so to address the timeline, i did attempt to shift monday which is the official 4th day but right when it hit 12am for me since i’m in bed by then. i love “awake” methods, they’re all i usually do but i can only do them at night when i am left alone and nothing is bothering me. i’m busy during the day and there’s never a quiet moment.
i did everything as usual, i got myself ready for bed, buzzing with good energy and semi-controlled giddiness. i lay down, put my headphones on and i listen to reya’s guided meditation. i get into a nice deep calm state, i don’t feel my body too much and i’m very relaxed. i affirm and affirm, keep relaxed. i don’t feel any “symptoms” per se, maybe like a tingling sensation here and there but i barely notice (i know i don’t need to experience these). so this continues on and eventually i go in and out of consciousness. the whole time i doze off and come back, i hear the subliminal music in my ears and no cue i’m in my wr. i remember getting frustrated but not why, i wasn’t mad i wasn’t in my wr or anything i know that for sure. really strange, but i’m not thinking much of it. in summary, i fell asleep and nothing much happened.
Tumblr media
that brings me to 12am today. i got ready for bed as usual and around 11:20pm (of yesterday) i’m finally in bed. i’m looking through notifs, apps, etc., then i decide to shift again. because why not? fuck it, let’s do it.
so after reviewing my script (and adding to it), i lay back with alunir’s guided meditation playing in my headphones. i’ve used it several times before. i relax immediately, etc etc etc., you know how it goes. again, not many “symptoms”, i barely notice the smaller ones like tingling. i get into a very very relaxed state, can’t feel my body much and i affirm and set my intentions as i hear what alunir says. like the last attempt, i doze off a little at first but then i’m fully awake. and soon i start smelling the faintest scents of rain and cologne (scripted this for my wr). i’m even calmer than last time this happened, got excited but i shut that shit down quick to focus. another cue i had in mind to know i’m in my wr is connor “waking” me up. he would gently wake me up not by talking but touch. (i’ve yet to post abt him, i will soon. he’s connor from a game called detroit become human. he’s like my assistant(?) in wr)
man i just remembered as i’m typing this up, i felt a shove to my arm/shoulder. it wasn’t aggressive but not so gentle, somewhere in the middle. i can’t tell if this was just a jerk my body did or something more for a split second. i don’t know what to define it as but i’m more sure it was just a jerk than anything else.
Tumblr media
⋆⋅☆⋅⋆overall thoughts⋆⋅☆⋅⋆
i think this is an amazing process. i believe it really helps lock down your belief in shifting as well as whatever you want to work on while using this. i felt pretty confident about my abilities to shift and it helped strengthen my positivity about shifting as a whole.
throughout all the exercises of this process, it helped strengthen so many parts of myself. reflecting on my journey thus far and what i hope to get out of one of many lives is so incredibly motivating and eye-opening. it gets you to really sit down and think about what you want and what you see for your overall life. this process really helps you see your dr(s) as a real place. not something you can only dream of but a real place where you can be. where everyone around you is real and have very real lives.
i definitely recommend others to try this process out. even if you don’t end up shifting, it can help strengthen your mindset and get you to think deeply about your dr(s). in turn, get you that much more closer to shifting!! ◝(ᵔᗜᵔ)◜

MY MAKO MERMAID DR RAMBLES
Tumblr media
As a girl obsessed with this show (+h20) and mermaids in general since I was little, I’ve been planning on shifting to Mako Mermaids for a while now, so for the past week or so I’ve been planning my playlists, subs etc, because I want to start on Friday since tomorrow I have plans with my friends.
One of my moots/irl friends on here introduced me to this shifter Reya Singh yesterday and omds I’m so grateful (you know who u are bestie), she’s an experienced shifter and she has a YouTube, she explains shifting and gives out tips and tricks, one video I started watching yesterday was the one where she explains how to reprogram your mind into shifting (ps I haven’t tried it yet so when I will I will follow up on that)
The method that I’m currently going to use would be the 8D method. Idk who else uses this method frequently but most of the time I use the lucid dreaming method, but that method always frustrated me so I decided to change it up yk.
One thing about the method I’m using is the fact that I can visualise, and I’m always someone who’s always day dreaming about random things, so I can work with this.
To anyone who’s also shifting to mako mermaids (+ h20), one thing I’ve felt that really changed connects me with it is listening to the peaceful piano osts that sound when Mako appears, I don’t know how to explain how they are, but I also don’t know the official name for that sound.
If anyone wants I can just post the link of the osts, I created a musi playlist, that playlist also has a list of subs I use to shift to that dr.
Anyways this was a quick ramble about my dr, I have somewhere to go right now so I’m just gonna keep it short, see you guys next time !!

Trying the Reya Singh 4 day reset your mind practice
Essentially it’s just a manifestation practice focused on reprogramming your subconscious so you can be more open to and receptive to shifting. I’m very confident in it given how logical and practical it sounds.
Heres the link to her video if anyone wants to do this with me 😁✨
(She also just has some really good content in general, a lot of simplifying shifting and reminders of the basics)

update on my shifting journey
Tumblr media
hi everyone! i tried reya's four-day mind reprogramming last week (friday was my last day) and... wow, i've had a lot of great news since then! it's been almost a week at this point, and while i didn't shift on the "birthday party" (friday), i did get tingles on sunday when trying the "wake up go back to sleep" method. and on monday, i had the most intense symptoms I've EVER HAD SINCE I DISCOVERED SHIFTING! i went to sleep using alunir's julia method guided meditation (the new one), and omg guys when i tell you i WAS FLOATING! i couldn't feel the bed underneath me, and my entire body was tingling every second. i even saw flashing lights and felt the room moving around me for a couple of minutes!
unfortunately, i unfocused during that "final push", so to speak, and decided to just open my eyes. i haven't gotten any more symptoms since then (been stressed this week with exams), but tomorrow is friday again so i'll try the "wake up go back to sleep" method again while listening to the same guided meditation that gave me symptoms.
i almost shifted that night, and i'm sure that if i keep trying, i'll get there soon (hopefully tomorrow) and have a success story to tell you all. this is your sign to not give up, and to pleasepleaseplease try reya's mind reprogramming. it works guys!
please don't lose hope! remember shifting is real and that we are all capable of doing it!

Reya Singh said you can practice shifting by going to a dr where just one thing has changed about your cr.
For example, you go to a dr where your bedroom walls are a different color, or a dr where you have a mole in a different spot
She recommended it for beginner shifters, because it’s an easy shift, as there’s nothing to be nervous of or nothing that changes too much! And once you shift for the first time, it’ll be easier to shift to other places cause you know you’ve done it before
She practiced shifting through that and now she can shift in 5-10 mins each time to her actual desired realities
Thank you Reya 🙏🏼 (shiftingwithreya.101 is her youtube, I highly recommend watching her for info and motivation!)

day 3 of reya singh’s 4-day mind reprogramming process! .𖥔 ݁ ˖ִ ࣪⚝₊ ⊹˚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
day 3: reinforce your beliefs by consuming trusted shifting success stories. watch or read first-hand accounts— people who have successfully shifted. let their experiences strengthen your conviction that shifting is real and attainable for you too. allow their perspectives to strengthen your knowing and shut down any remaining disbelief. surround yourself with proof; immerse yourself in these stories, envision yourself in their position, and shut down any lingering doubts. you know your capability— now strengthen that conviction.
Tumblr media
so during this process, i’m not supposed to ‘try’ to shift (as reya said) and i haven’t. i listened to this one subliminal that i believe got me a little close before— last night but that’s about it. — my friend and i are doing this process together too, she’s great at finding stuff abt our dr <3 @4midrain (˶ ˘ ³˘)ˆᵕ ˆ˶)
today i looked through tiktok and this app for successful shifts from either ppl i follow or that i found throughout my feed and had liked. i love reading or watching other people's story times, regardless of the topic. seeing someone light up and gush while recounting their first shifting experience, interactions with loved ones in their desired reality is incredibly heartwarming. even if i’m unfamiliar with the specific reality being described, ‘fictional’ or ‘life’ (fame, etc,.)
but with this i also looked for stories of my own dr, criminal minds. it doesn’t seem to be a common dr unlike others but i managed to find content and it makes me even more excited and giddy regardless the nature of said content. like yesterday, these stories got me to thinking more in depth of my life in my dr and certain serious topics. i’m getting better at seeing my reality as something really real. it’s the life and work i really do want. it won’t be sunshine and rainbows all the time especially due to the nature of my job, but it’s something i still want regardless. as giddy as i get about my s/o and the team, i know how real my life will be. how real the people i’ll be around will be— real people living a real life, just like me. that in itself is also very motivating to me.
