Castles in the Air
I'm extremely excited to announce that the game I've been working on for the past 4 years is coming to Kickstarter! Castles in the Air (CitA) is a tabletop RPG inspired by the novels of Louisa May Alcott and L.M. Montgomery. Players start as children with boundless dreams who will change over the years based on the relationships they form and choices they make. I think it's a really special game, and I'm looking forward to being able to share it with everyone.
For more information or to sign up to be notified when the Kickstarter launches on May 14th, please check out the game's page on the Storybrewers Roleplaying website. If that name sounds familiar, Storybrewers is the company that created Good Society: A Jane Austen RPG. I feel very honored that they reached out to me about publishing Castles in the Air. While Castles in the Air is a standalone game, its mechanics are inspired by Good Society, and if you like Good Society, I think you'll like CitA too as it allows you to tell similarly compelling stories.
I will be creating some blog posts talking about the literary inspirations for different parts of the game in the weeks leading up to the Kickstarter and during its run. I will be using this as a master post to keep track of all of them, so make sure to check back here or follow my blog if you are interested.

SPOILERS AHEAD- If you haven't seen this episode, don't read this.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This episode of Road To Avonlea (titled Old Friends, Old Wounds, but is also titled on the website Gazebotv.com as The Missing Marilla Cuthbert episode) has a lot to unpack. First, Colleen Dewhurst, who had been a semi regular on the show had died. The show wanted to pay tribute to the actress so they pieced together scenes of her from Anne Of Green Gables and Wind At My Back. The episode also features Jonathan Crombie as Dr. Blythe who came for the funeral, saying that Anne had scarlet fever, otherwise she would have come too. Gilbert tries to reassure Rachel Lynde that he will allow her to stay at Green Gables, but the learn that Marilla had died before she could finalize a will. They also learn that Green Gables has already been sold to John Harrison, Marilla's friend, but Rachel's enemy. Hetty King and the rest of the town tries to reason with John Harrison, but he hates Rachel and will not listen.
Later, Davey, the boy Marilla and Rachel had adopted along with his sister Dora also try to reason with Mr. Harrison, but he still will not listen. It isn't until he gets into an accident and is treated by Gilbert that he finally hears Davey, who is fearful he and his sister will be split up and then changes his mind, letting them all stay at Green Gables.
This is a touching tribute to Colleen Dewhurst and is also wonderful to see Gilbert Blythe again.

Rest In Peace Patricia Hamilton. You were the best Rachel Lynde in all of the Anne Of Green Gables series I have seen. You were my favorite in Anne Of Green Gables and Anne Of Green Gables The Sequel and Road To Avonlea. Nobody else could play Rachel as well as you could. You brought Rachel to life and we all love you and we will miss you.
Pictures were found on Pintrist and Google
Thank you for bringing Rachel Lynde to life.

I know I'm shouting into the void about a 25 year old show but...
Wow, season six of Road to Avonlea feels so mixed up, time wise. First episode Felix is helping Felicity move into medical school - which has started. A few episodes later Janet says that Felicity is gone for a few days to register for medical school. A few episodes after that Felicity is working around the farm and at the general store - no mention of med school at all.
Felix is all over too but it's a little harder to track, mostly you see it in Izzy's big love confession, which is then promptly forgotten.
Are there any long time RtA fans who have figured this out and have a better watch order?

I'm starting Little House on the Prarie to get my Victorian-era fix, plus I LOVED Little House books when I was a kid.
I used to watch/was introduced to Road to Avonlea with my ex-bf. So it’s tainted, unfortunately 😭
The Anne of Green Gables movies are safe because I read the book pre previous relationship 🙏🏻

More travels with Jonathan Harker, in pictures
Here's the route that Jonathan travels by the public coach today:
Tumblr media
I've tried to find copyright-free photos from the actual route, but I've not had much success. So this tour is going to be a lot more vibes-based than reflective of the actual sights out of the stagecoach window. Think of it like Jonathan's Transylvanian Pinterest board.
(Scenery photos are all of Transylvania, assuming I can trust the sites where I found them, but not necessarily the right time of year or the right bit of Transylvania. It's a big place.)
"Before us lay a green sloping land full of forests and woods, with here and there steep hills, crowned with clumps of trees or with farmhouses, the blank gable end to the road."
Tumblr media
"There was everywhere a bewildering mass of fruit blossom—apple, plum, pear, cherry; and as we drove by I could see the green grass under the trees spangled with the fallen petals."
Tumblr media
"In and out amongst these green hills of what they call here the "Mittel Land" ran the road, losing itself as it swept round the grassy curve, or was shut out by the straggling ends of pine woods, which here and there ran down the hillsides like tongues of flame."
Tumblr media
"Beyond the green swelling hills of the Mittel Land rose mighty slopes of forest up to the lofty steeps of the Carpathians themselves. Right and left of us they towered, with the afternoon sun falling full upon them and bringing out all the glorious colours of this beautiful range, deep blue and purple in the shadows of the peaks, green and brown where grass and rock mingled, and an endless perspective of jagged rock and pointed crags, till these were themselves lost in the distance, where the snowy peaks rose grandly."
Tumblr media
"As we wound on our endless way, and the sun sank lower and lower behind us, the shadows of the evening began to creep round us. This was emphasised by the fact that the snowy mountain-top still held the sunset, and seemed to glow out with a delicate cool pink."
Tumblr media
"By the roadside were many crosses, and as we swept by, my companions all crossed themselves."
Tumblr media
"Sometimes, as the road was cut through the pine woods that seemed in the darkness to be closing down upon us, great masses of greyness, which here and there bestrewed the trees, produced a peculiarly weird and solemn effect, which carried on the thoughts and grim fancies engendered earlier in the evening, when the falling sunset threw into strange relief the ghost-like clouds which amongst the Carpathians seem to wind ceaselessly through the valleys."
Tumblr media
And a bonus: Bran Castle is marked as 'Dracula's Castle' despite being even further away from the locations in the book than most of my vibes-based photography choices. It also doesn't resemble Bram Stoker's descriptions of the castle.
But more importantly, it looks really cool. So here it is:

Sansa's Sworn Shield 3k by @kittykatknits
“You could play come into my castle with her, she likes that game,” Rickon offered helpfully. Jon desperately wants an evening alone with his wife. Unfortunately, Rickon is determined to protect his dear sister from Jon's less than honorable intentions. Challenged to yet another duel, and running out of champions, Jon decides to find another way to solve his problems so he can finally come into Sansa's castle.
The pursuit of non-bath time happiness 3k by @captainbee89
After Jon refuses Gendry's ask for Arya's hand, citing the fact Sansa was not yet betrothed, Rickon observes and, with the help of Shaggydog, Ghost and Arya, comes up with a plan to have Jon realise he should court Sansa himself. And if it were to result in Jon being less strict about bath times, that was totally coincidental!
Goodbye Means Going Away (And Going Away Means Forgetting) 2k by @vixleonard
Memory is unreliable. No one understands this better than Rickon Stark.
corresponding manip by @norrlands-nonsense
what this palace wants is release 26k WIP by @bravegentlestrong
When Sansa and Jon show up at Bear Island, Rickon is already there holding court as King in the North and planning a war with Lyanna Mormont. They look exactly like the parents who he lost. Once Jon and Sansa take over the whole ruling-the-kingdom thing, Lyanna and Rickon use their political capital to parent trap Jon and Sansa.
No Smooth Road 4k by @maybetwice
Jon and Sansa are in love. It ought to be as simple as that.
His King's Command ficlet by @vivilove-jonsa
“Sansa wants a babe. You should give her one.” Jon had been cleaning Longclaw but glances up at his king, his ten-years-old cousin, who is staring at him expectantly with his arms crossed.
Rickon's Refuge 1k by @vivilove-jonsa
On those nights, Rickon feels like a child of eight, not a man grown. On those nights, he seeks out Sansa, a tolerable replacement for the mother he lost, the one he barely remembers now, though that is not in his conscious thoughts.  She lets him lie in her bed.  She will stroke his hair softly and sing.  He's never told her but he likes that.  It makes him feel safe and loved and like he still has a mother who isn't a faded memory.   “Rickon? What are you doing in here?” He scowls at the deep voice even though he loves him. “What are you doing in here?!” he asks sharply in reply to Jon’s question, the petulance plain in his tone.
Marry Me In Some Old-Fashioned Way 2k by @blackholeofprocrastination
A misunderstanding with Rickon leads Jon to reconsider his future at Winterfell and his feelings towards its red-haired mistress.
