The history book on the shelf is always repeating itself and I wonder if one will get a happy ending

it’s how Rayleigh gets to watch his past repeat itself in the form of Luffy and Zoro. Luffy finding Zoro through sheer fate and luck and choosing him to be his companion on his adventures. The way Luffy finds the most interesting and complex people to become part of his family/crew just as Roger did, and the way Luffy’s crew has connections to Roger’s crew (Brook and Crocus meeting, Franky meeting Roger’s crew/Oden, etc) It’s the way that he trains Luffy and sees Roger through him, and knows that Luffy sacrificed years off of his life to try to save his brother, and because of that Luffy will die young like Roger. Meaning that Zoro will have to live without Luffy like Rayleigh had to live without Roger. Seeing how similar Zoro is to himself and choosing to save Zoro from Kizaru. It’s how Zoro and Rayleigh are legends and kings (king of hell/the dark king) in their own right, but choose to follow their captain because Luffy and Roger are about adventure and having fun, something that both Zoro and Rayleigh did not have in their life before meeting their captain. Plus all of the personality/physical resemblance between the two pairs
And then I imagine how history could repeat itself again with Luffy and Zoro and the following generation
like DUDE!!! I’m sick

wano spoilers
feeling some kind of emotional about rayleigh and roger flashbacks in wano, with smol shanks and buggy. and later oden and toki and their kids :'(
rayleigh has so much patience for them lmao
just few of my favorite panels:
(their captain is an idiot; a shared sentiment by whoever's captain wears the strawhat, probably)
(this is so cute and sad especially knowing this playfulness and love from roger never reached ace ;-; sorry)
"reminds me of the old days." - i wonder if rayleigh means by this shanks or buggy (or both? im not that far yet, if we know more of their backstories, but they were already very young on the roger's ship, so it would make sense if they found one of them as a baby and basically were raising him together ;-; *cries again*)
no really, these flashbacks said rogerray with kids rights, and rayleigh was the only one with a parenting braincell
and this last thing reminds me how often it's one of the strawhats (cough. zoro) reading luffy the news, mostly about their new bounties
smth smth captain and his first mate
and then this angst.... with the goodbyes, and rayleigh possibly keeping roger's pirate hat after he left.
these flashbacks were so emotional! so good and informative how roger's pirates worked, how oden went with them and their journey to the places we've seen luffy and strawhats travel from beginning of one piece - skypiea and the poneglyph text that oden wrote there for roger. water 7 and meeting young franky!, fishman island and roger and oden hearing that voice but rayleigh not hearing it. that was all so interesting.
it was both so fun and joyful, but also sad and devastating, what it must have been to part in the end, for the rest of the crew (and rayleigh especially.)

Its just the way that Roger found Rayleigh and immediately called their meeting fate and the way they were captian and first mate for over thirty years and the way they were Gol D and Silvers and the way they called each other partners and the way Roger told Rayleigh he would never die and the way Rayleigh was crying but let his captain go because he knew that was what Roger wanted and needed and the way Roger lived his last year without his partner and the way Rayleigh didn't go to Roger's execution and how it was the day he laughed and cried the most and the way Rayleigh lived!! For so long!! Without Roger and just waiting for Joyboy's prophecy to pass and the way—

Hi, Im gonna risk sending an ask even if you delete it but tbh Im interested in simple yes or no answer
Do you think there can be parallel between relationships of rogerray zolu and mishanks? It’s quite common in all of this fandoms to think they are similiar, kinda The history book on the shelf is always repeating itself situation. Strawhat guy and swordsman. Do you see this?
well, you're asking a question that's more interesting to me than just "don't you think [ship i don't ship] is great?" so i'll allow it. and anyway, i love history doesn't repeat itself but sometimes it rhymes things. one of my favorite things to do with multigenerational stories is look for those parallel characters and dynamics.
i think the roger-rayleigh/luffy-zoro parallels and the shanks-mihawk/luffy-zoro parallels are definitely worth thinking about, but it's harder for me to draw the same type of parallel between all three pairs.
see, the similarities between rr and lz are way more about the captain-and-first mate dynamic to me. (i straight up forgot rayleigh carried a sword, lmao, it isn't really his defining trait.) it's asking someone to join your crew without knowing a thing about him. it's devotion, it's loyalty, it's usually but not always understanding him and always following his lead regardless. it's being the relatively reasonable one who's not really reasonable at all. it's the dark king (aka hades) and the demonic ashura standing at the right hand of a man who's always smiling.
sm/lz is more about those strawhat-and-swordsman vibes, since so much of what we know about shanks and mihawk (and the shanks-mihawk dynamic) is inferred or implied through comparisons with luffy and zoro respectively. it's the sunshine/grumpy contrast. it's getting this quiet loner to open up to you in a way he won't to anyone else. it's telling this careless guy he's being an idiot because god forbid you actually tell him you're worried.

How many times do you think Garp accidentally stumbled upon RogerRay date night?
He's just casually walking around some no-name port and is just like...wait a minute...

Thinking about how Ray's name and Zoro's colour are the direct complementary counterpart to Roger's and Luffy's while Mihawk's colour is just an adjacent to Shanks' and Yoru means "night" but Gryphon is a creature created when you combine a Hawk and a Lion (Shanks' animal) together... I might be rambling but I'm Sure this Means Something.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤
I'm too introverted for this I don't know five writers—
My five favorite works!! Oh god that's a hard one. Let's see...
I'm gonna have to go with "Beneath the Skin, Through the Heart," "Moth to a Flame," "Shared Cigarettes," "Savage Little Beasts," and "'Til all my sleeves are stained red (from all the truth I've said)."
Ahh, that was so hard to choose. I'll put in some more details below in case anyone's interested~
Beneath the Skin, Through the Heart
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Katakuri/Rosinante
Summary: Katakuri and Rosinante try to get a little more into the... intimate side of a relationship, but some hidden secrets ruin those plans pretty fast.
Notes: This came completely out of the blue, to be honest. I got this image of fem!rosi with kata stuck—like, properly stuck—in my head and then everything just got worse. this thing had no plot originally, but then I decided it was going to take place in the canon universe, and everything just kind of... escaped my fingers like a fever dream afterwards. It was a lot of fun!! I love it a whole lot tbh probably gonna stay in my heart for a long time.
Moth to a Flame
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence
Relationships: Crocodile/Doflamingo
Summary: Be in my quarters at 14:00, the little note read. Unmistakably Crocodile’s neat-but-distracted-by-more-important-things-than-you scrawl, Doflamingo felt his perpetual grin grow ever wider. Even he felt a bit of disbelief when it happened, his skin about two millimeters from splitting already.
What a pleasant surprise.
If only Doflamingo knew what was truly waiting for him.
Notes: This was the kick off to my BTHB! I wrote it for someone who I knew would enjoy this type of thing, and to my great relief, they did enjoy the work! It was my first time writing something quite so... disturbing, so I was of course apprehensive, but it turned out better than I expected! I have higher hopes for the rest of my BTHB now <3
Shared Cigarettes
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Bell-mére/Rosinante
Summary: She thought that maybe if they had had more time, if they had been able to do all those things he wanted, she would have been able to love him properly. She would have been able to love him like he deserved—not just echoed the feeling, through wide-puppy-dog-smiles and ruffled-mussed-blond-hair and shared-smokey-cigarette-air and the brushing of fingertips they decided counted as hand-holding.
Notes: This one was super bittersweet. My first ever corabelle!! The writing style was a little out of my norm, but it's my baby nonetheless. I just liked thinking of the what-ifs of Bell-mere and Rosinante's relationship—especially after these two masterpieces: set in stone and matching set
love em love em love emmmm <33
Savage Little Beasts
Rating: Teen and Up
Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence
Relationships: Hancock & Crocodile
Summary: Hancock finds something in common with Crocodile, and they get along better than expected
Notes: I have never in my life written or would have even thought of writing something from Boa Hancock's POV, but holy cow, this one was a whole lot more fun than I thought it would be. It's a little less cutesy, but it's focusing on their pets! Adorable bananawanis and Salome <3
And finally,
'Til all my sleeves are stained red (from all the truth I've said)
Rating: Teen and Up
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Roger/Rayleigh
Summary: 5 times Rayleigh discovers something his captain's hiding, and one time his captain comes to him
Notes: This one was for Rarepair Month!! I don't know how I managed to write nearly 1k a day, but god, that sad ending was quite an exercise in "don't turn this into a happy ending it needs to be canon compliant". every fluff-loving bone in my body was miserable.
Thank you for the ask, anon!! I'll send it out diligently o7
