Old warriors on the MFWWT by Steve Grabman

With every month’s spotlight this year, I’m going to paint a little word picture of a comfy fairytale cottage. I’ll set the stage, adding more detail to this picturesque lifestyle cottage through each photo. My hope is that you’ll imagine right alongside me. And, in the comments, I would LOVE for you to play along! Tell me what your cottage looks like, what the property looks like, what you’d change about mine, ANYTHING!! I think this cottage will be so fun to build together. 🤍

(8/12) My little white cottage with thatched roofing not only has Canadian Geese, Black-Capped-Chickadees, and Mallard Ducks, but it also has Black-Crowned Night-Herons?? To me, these stocky and compact birds bring a whole new type of fairytale vibe to the property! Mystery?? Darkness? Is my cozy cottage not as cozy as it seems, or is it so cozy that birds of all types feel comfortable here? Like their name suggests, the Black-Crowned Night-Herons mostly forage at night. During the day though, a family of three can be found spending time together on a small, bare tree that stands on the edge of my cottage’s property next to the stream. They perch here, basking in the golden glow of the evening sun.

New bridge at Saginaw
At Saginaw, Michigan, Mikado 1097 leads a Ludington-bound freight over Pere Marquette’s new bridge over the Saginaw River in the 1940s. The three non-moveable trusses were simply moved from the old piers to the new ones in an operation that took only 13 hours.

Times aren't good and I hate asking for money on here cause I know it's hard all around right now, but I'm really in a screwed up spot. I got laid off and while I am looking for other work, I haven't found anything full time yet, and my best bet for that is an online position like I had before (I live in a town of ~7k people and we have like 10 small businesses total and I do not own a car). I am supposed to be getting money from unemployment, but they are ignoring me, refusing to make a determination and not answering the 4 messages I send daily (because it is 4 payments in a row they've withheld). This is illegal. By their own rules, they are supposed to have made a determination by now and then I can accept or contest that. They have simply stopped responding to me in any way. I have done everything I was supposed to do.
When I went online this morning to get pics for this post, I was actually completely unable to log in to my account (it is available 24 hours). They know they're doing something wrong and predatory at this point. I cannot go to the local library to try there, bc in a very small community our library is not open daily.
My BEST chance at full time work is online. My internet bill is DUE and it is $100. I am freaking out bc I have $5. Even if you think remote work isnt my best option, please understand that I will have a much harder time applying to ANY jobs without internet, and that my side work is selling items I make and writing tiny stories or articles, as well as transcription. These jobs make almost nothing, but it is better than $0. I cannot do ANY of that if my internet is off.
you haven't seen these cuz I took them ahahhahahahahahha
Collectivly my friend got a signed photo of Papa, Sodo's guitar pick and a bunch of other stuff from this really fucking nice guy who was VIP. I miss that man sm.
