Summary: Cersei has always been the ambitious one. She followed doggedly in their father’s footsteps where Jaime meandered, did entrepreneurship workshops while he skipped classes. So when Tywin Lannister gives Jaime a prestigious position at the family company and consigns Cersei to a small women's liberal arts college, she comes up with a plot to turn the tables. Disguised as Jaime, she will take the job, proving to their father that she can manage the business, while Jaime, disguised as Cersei, will attend the college in her stead, dodging his father’s expectations.
Nothing bad could possibly happen as a result of this.
Things I Love: Jaime and Cersei swapping places, Cersei’s ambition, Cersei’s gender issues, how intrigued Jaime is by the plan but how strange it feels too, Cersei’s height, Tyrion’s response to everything, the obsessive love that does not lead to incest.

The Gentlest Schism is amasing JB fic. It’s old fic and you’d been talking old ones. All of SandwichesYumYum is great JB fic, but hse doesn’t tag JB, so it’s the hidden trove of JB fic.
What is it about? Because someone else described it to me and it feels familiar but I’ve consumed so many JB fics at this point and I might be mistaking it for something else so I don’t know anymore 😮💨

17 Short Fic Recs
I’ve been mostly a fandom lurker for the past five months (since the Game of Thrones Series Finale). Since then I’ve been reading some of the best fanfiction I’ve ever read. I’ve been a part of some very small fandoms before and can say the J/B fandom is lucky to have many very talented writers. I wanted to make a list of my favorite stories so far for J/B Week, but life… so here it is now. I’ll try to be brief (I anticipate I am going to fail at this) and not spoil the stories.
These are all stories with less than 14k words. The division between short and long fics is a bit arbitrary but necessary due to the length of this list. I am sure there are better ways to classify these stories that I may get around to later on.
Sorry in advance for the overuse of words such as beautiful, perfect and spectacular, the Jaime/Brienne fandom writers are that good. Also, English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes.

41 Nights and a Day by rhye
This one reads like a collection of drabbles, one for each day Jaime and Brienne spent together in Winterfell. It’s lovely and intimate and we get to see them discover everything about each other in this new facet of their relationship.

This is a short post S8E3 episode one-shot. It’s a story about loss and comfort. Jaime taking care of Brienne and being tender with her always does things for me. This story is poignant, beautiful and much better than what the show gave us in episode 4.
A Whole City Suffers by Mussimm
A Whole City Suffers is a collection of seven post-canon ficlets, one for each of the deadly sins. Each ficlet is a wonderful dip into Jaime’s mind. It is part of a really creative series called Works and Days which include the seven heavenly virtues from Brienne’s POV which is a fantastic companion to this one.
The Stranger Catches Us All by Miss_M @miss-m-calling
This is a very bitter-sweet short story. Jaime and Brienne’s personalities and loving relationship are perfectly captured in this Post-Canon short story where they worry about their future.
Ball and Chain and Golden and True by Miss_M @miss-m-calling
These two stories were in my reading list for quite a while. Reading the description only I wasn’t sure I would like, but boy am I glad I decided to give it a shot. In this story, Brienne is a cop who has to arrest and repeatedly interview Jaime Lannister. The level of the uncontrollable, contained sexuality in this is off the charts, but somehow the story manages to also delve into the trust and intimacy between Jaime and Brienne.
Mercy in You by Miss_M @miss-m-calling
I love a story where Jaime and Brienne are in an established relationship but are still learning to navigate it and eventually, they have to confront those lingering fears and insecurities. That is beautifully handled in this story. The characterization in this piece are fantastic. Miss_M is very true to both Jaime and Brienne’s characters.
A Woman's War by Lady_in_Red @ladyinredfics
I can’t say a lot about this story without giving away the plot. It is a wonderfully written and moving short piece. The two chapters in this go beautifully together and Jamie's love for Brienne shines through in both of them. Lady_in_Red manages to pack a lot in, but the story flows quite naturally.
He Wants (he wants) by ShirleyAnn66
This is one is, I believe, the shortest story in this list. However, it does a perfect job depicting Jaime as a character and dissecting all of his flaws and insecurities. I particularly love that the story touches on the book version of his parting with Tyrion.
Catch Me if I Fall by JustAGirl24
I’m starting to think most short stories I love are more than a little sad. This story has a modern setting. It’s angsty but beautifully written. Please heed the warnings before reading. I love that the story doesn’t shy away from describing how a couple copes and manages to get through dark times together.
Spoken to Skin by SandwichesYumYum
This is a Pennytree to Stoneheart one shot. I love how from the very beginning Jaime knows Brienne is lying but his trust in her never waivers. Brienne is quite hurt at this point and Jaime is incredibly soft and tender with her. The tension and intimacy in this piece are superb.
Salt Wife by Lady_in_Red @ladyinredfics
This is a post ADWD story where Jaime is banished to Casterly Rock with the constant threat of Daenerys’s wrath. The story is perfectly paced and structured. It reads like being inside Brienne’s head and the ending (however bittersweet) never fails to make me smile.
Same Old Auld Lang Syne by Lady_in_Red @ladyinredfics
I said it in the long fic rec, but I’ll repeat it here: Lady_in_Red is a true MVP. This story has a modern setting. After a very volatile relationship with Jaime, Brienne seeks stability with Hyle. This story explores where Brienne is almost six years later in a beautiful, heart-wrecking manner. Also, the short glimpses of songwriter!Jaime are to die for.
A Love Song by ozmissage
This one is very angsty. We are in Jaime’s head as Brienne suffers from amnesia. It’s amazing how even with her lack of memories ozmissage’s Brienne feels so in character. This is a very original, moving story. Each sentence hits right in the feels.
the battlefield between us (isn't here tonight) and no war is enough (to keep me from you) by robotsdance
This is late Season 7/Season 8 Secret Marriage AU. It is incredibly romantic and written in the most beautiful style. I’m so on board with this version of events. The wedding could not be more fitting for Jaime and Brienne. Jaime and Brienne being already married in the dragon pit scene? Yes, please. And the knighting scene is absolutely breathtaking. I love that Jaime's feelings for Brienne shine from start to finish.
once it ends (so it begins) by nubbins_for_all
This is probably a post S8E3 story. It is a great exploration of both Jamie/Brienne as a couple and Brienne and Sansa’s friendship. Brienne has to open up and manage to put her feelings into words in order to be there for Sansa. Every little scene between Jaime and Brienne serves a purpose and is beautifully written. The dialogue in this is honest, teasing and funny and it’s a joy to get to see Brienne learn to verbalize her wants and needs and feelings.
Madness by RoseHeart
This is a Quiet Isle story. It has almost every Jaime I love: worried/caring!Jaime, jealous!Jaime, and exasperated-because-Brienne-doesn’t-see-how-much-he-loves-her!Jaime. The story is very indulging and filled with every trope and post-ADWD hope of any Braime shipper but it is beautifully executed.
A Keeping of Oaths by lodessa @lodessa
This is a Season 8 fix-it. This story gives a much more satisfying ending for almost every character. It’s fluffy and hot and funny but still manages to realistically explore Jaime’s feelings of unworthiness. It has some great Bronn, Aunt Genna, Daenerys and Jorah appearances.

a few J/B favorites today:
Favorite Love Scene - Heart’s Desire, by Miss M (book canon post ADWD) In character, sweet, realistically nervous and awkward for their first time together and Brienne’s first time ever, and it has some really beautiful passages and character moments while still doubling as a one-shot PWP. Love.
Favorite Love Scene, take two - Flawed by fancoeurs aka Jaime and Brienne are really bad at communicating and have dueling self-worth issues and it’s really frustrating but they figure it out eventually with fantastic results. So good!
Favorite depiction of Jaime dealing with trauma - it all comes back through the holes and the cracks where you thought you let it slip away by @janiedean (book canon post ADWD) This is the one where you really realize, oh yeah, Jaime really HAS been through a hell of a lot and it’s kind of amazing he’s even functional at this point. I love Janie_Tangerine’s voice for Jaime pov and having the wildlings drive home the point is a brilliant choice.
Favorite AU - All the Roads are Winding by @shirleyann66 Many many AUs here and they are all terrific and you get to run through all your favorite ship tropes and watch J/B fall in love six times at once and I love this story.
Favorite Use of the “One Thinks the Other is Dead” Trope - A Walk With Frost and Fire (and Death and Snow) by LuxEvergreen (book canon post ADWD) Because I enjoy suffering this is one of my go-to tropes and this fic hits the sweet spot perfectly. The first few chapters are so very painful, but then the author makes it better.
Favorite Unfinished fic, Modern AU - Lost Property by SandwichesYumYum This is essentially a finished fic that cuts out right at the love scene at the end, which is a little frustrating (ok a lot frustrating) but it’s still a great story. Great J/B dynamic for a modern AU and a go-to for re-reading.
Favorite Unfinished fic, Canon - Please Answer Clearly by Tarth There’s only 3 chapters of this and it’s kind of your standard post ADWD book!canon fic, but I really really enjoyed the characterizations. It has one of my favorite takes on Brienne and on how both Jaime and Brienne have changed since they saw each other last and how it might alter their dynamic, and I really loved the writing style, and I would be so excited to see it get updated again.

6. What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?
Probably one of the chapters of “The Ones Where Logan Lives” by a variety of Veronica Mars writers. There’s a lot of gallows humor going on over there, deliberately poking at and sending up the parts of season 4 that made zero sense.
7. What’s the last thing you read that made you cry?
Is it terrible if it’s something of mine? The Courage of Stars still makes me tear up. It’s undoubtedly the only TV canon-compliant thing I will write. Crying reading fic is not a common occurrence for me. The one I can definitely say made me cry, repeatedly, is The Gentlest Schism by SandwichesYumYum.
19. What’s your favorite character headcanon?
Ooh. This is an unpopular opinion, but book canon Selwyn Tarth is not the perfect father Brienne remembers in her head. For starters, Brienne has been his heir for roughly 15 years when we first meet her in ACOK, and she is still painfully naive about matters of politics. She had a horribly mean septa who taught her how ugly and worthless she was, and Selwyn was either indifferent to that or too uninvolved to notice. He makes three betrothals for her, each one worse than the last. In the midst of those exquisitely painful failures, Selwyn continued to bring over mistresses from Essos rather than remarry and produce another heir. In some ways, he treated her like a son, allowing her to learn to fight and sending her to Storm’s End as a page sometime after she met Renly (he was 16 when they met, she was 13, the year after Ronnet). But he still expected her to put it all aside to marry an elderly man. When that failed, Selwyn seemingly gave up. He still didn’t remarry, yet he allowed Brienne to follow Renly into battle, perhaps hoping ill-treatment by her fellow soldiers would make her turn tail and return home. But she didn’t come home. And in her AFFC chapters, Brienne barely thinks of him or of Tarth. I very much doubt we’ll ever meet Selwyn in canon considering the rumors that Tarth fell to the Golden Company, but he wasn’t the paragon he’s sometimes made out to be simply for letting Brienne train with Goodwin.

Yes, I still blame J/B fandom for leading me to read WIPs. Blame might be thank at this point, but I'll never flat out admit it.

Summary: "I'm not going to marry you," Jaime tells Brienne one night, just after his tenth name day. "But we could be friends."
Jaime Lannister befriends Brienne of Tarth when they are children, and their paths continue to intertwine as Robert's Rebellion traps them both in the Red Keep.
Things I Love: Brienne and Elia friendship of a sort; Brienne and Jaime sparring together in secret; Brienne and the Kingsguard; Dorne and the Martells; did I mention Brienne and Elia and the children because I love them; the way the story addresses Selwyn being a fairly terrible father (in a sort of different way than canon, but the heart of that bad parenting is there).

Things I Love: I don't much care for Regency romances, except that I love this one (and several other J/B Regency AUs), so once again the J/B fandom has broken me, because this setting is wonderful; Brienne desperate to protect her people; the smart ways Jaime and Brienne work together; Pia and Brienne; Jaime determined to make her enjoy their sex.

Summary: The war is over. Some of them hadn’t thought that they would outlive it. And yet...
Things I Love: To hate myself (look at that last updated date); warriors of Tarth; Brienne receiving the respect of the Dothraki warriors; Brienne being adored by her people, warriors and not; this horrifying and wonderful bathing and scars scene between Brienne and Daenerys (and Tyrion); Brienne, sheep, and Drogon; how complicated and painful the situation for Brienne, Jaime, and Tarth is but at the same time compelling.

Summary: Brienne dies on her way to King's Landing, not too long after Jaime's death. Instead of being graced with a peaceful afterlife, she is sent back to the year of the infamous Tourney at Harrenhal, where everything began. Soon she finds out Jaime was also sent back.
Can they work through their hurts as they try to rewrite history? Or are they doomed to relive the horrors and heartbreaks of their previous lives?

You are the most precious Lannister, there is. The Rock will not fail you. Neither will I.”
Things I Love: Tommen, Tommen and Jaime, Tommen and Brienne; begrudging respect between Brienne and Cersei even among everything else between them; the intrigue of dragons fighting dragons and lions and suns and Evenstars caught between them; the Rock, which is unusual for me; twisting, manipulative, dangerous relationships of all sorts.

Do you have any braime fic recs? I've read a few on ao3 so far but nothing has beat your 'norns' fic for me and I'm trying to find another fic that makes me feel the same and its almost impossible.

First of all, thanks so much for enjoying Norns. It’s a personal petpeeve of mine and I am always happy that people can get into the story’s AU.
I guess what will make things difficult is that no writer is the same, no story is the same, so you are likely never going to get the exact same feeling you may get from reading my fic if you are to read someone else’s. But the fun lies in having the possibiity to feel all new kinds of emotions! Oh, the wonder of fanfic! I just can’t get enough!
Another issue lies in the fact that I am more of a fanfic writer than I am a fanfic reader, which is to say that I don’t read as much fanfic as I should (because there is just so much goodness out there that deserves to be read, kudoed, commented on, and loved, loved, loved). I wouldn’t ever be my own customer as a fanfic reader. I mostly read oneshots depending on the mood I am in (today I fel like reading fluff, the next day I may want to have some hurt/comfort, oh, and what of some smut for the day after???). So I would not read most of my own long-ass fanfics that hardly ever update.
And then of course, your request is rather broad. Are you looking for multichapter fics, are you looking for oneshots, are you interested in Mod!AU, canon divergence, complete AUs that take you to entirely new worlds but not necessarily the modern age, do you want to have fluff, hurt/comfort, angst, do you want smut, do you want it to remain vanilla… the possibilities are as endless as the number of tags we keep getting on AO3. The point being, fanfic recommentations are highly reliant on what you are looking for.
If you are looking for a better way to navigate the vastness of amazing JB fic, let me point you to JBO and the most awesome Moderator Mikki who put together a search you just have to click to narrow things down (because those things can be difficult at times). Follow this link for details. You can then add your personal preferences with the tag tool to narrow things down further, but it’s certainly a good starting point to start the journey if you want to undertake it by yourself.
However, I guess there are some safe bets I can give to you, even without having read them all (for which I still have to ring the shame bells for me, bad Wacky, BAD!). I am by no means implying that they are the only ones, I just know that their fanfics have been widely received as aweseomsauce and I trust the JB fandom to know those kinds of things. We have the best fanfic readers and writers, yo. :D
Some safe bets are pieces by: SandwichesYumYum , Nurdles , QuizzicalQuinnia , SigilBroken , ShirleyAnn66 , and RoseHeart. You can’t go wrong with them, I believe because talented people have gathered in the JB fandom and they are certainly part of the holy JB fanfic pantheon by now.
However, if any of my followers may want to offer further input, feel free to add to the list because fic recommendations are not my field of expertise.

What is the favorite piece of fic you have ever read or written from any fandom ever?
Oh god, that’s like 23 years worth of fanfic to have to even think of lol.
Also, you should know that I am arrogant and think that I come up with fantastic plot ideas lol.
Is it cheating if I name a piece of fic I’m currently working on that I haven’t finished or even started posting? Because I have started a modern story where Brienne becomes Podricks foster mother after Tyrion goes away on a murder charge, and then finds herself becoming family (and more) with Podrick’s Uncles Jaime and Bronn. And I’m pretty in love with it, but I’m the slowest writer ever.
Followed by like 20 other unpublished pieces I adore lol. Ask me, I’ll send you snippets lol.If you want to talk published works…Maybe this post book series JB fic from Jaime’s POV. It’s not complete because I just never posted the rest, though I do have a tiny bit more finished that I plan to upload.
And as for non GoT fic I really did enjoy how this Sanctuary fanfiction turned out, even if it wasn’t written for my usual otp as it was an exchange fic I wrote. Wow I don’t even want to look at my typos and bad punctuation here now though.As for stories I’d recommend because they are favourites from other writers… JFC I have 20 years worth of downloaded and bookmarked fanfictions. For so so so many fandoms. If you want specific recs, I’d be so happy to give them to you, whatever pairings you can think of, whatever fandoms of mine (assuming I read fic for them) themes, modern, canon setting, etc. I’d be here for a decade trying to link you to Jaime/Brienne specific ones alone. I have hundreds I love.
