This is the first of the timeline posts I will post. As Tumblr wont let me post it all in one post. I'll put links at the bottom to the next timelines.
Read the timeline with in mind, most dates are confirmed by pictures, events that can be traced back to dates, and posts on IG or Twitter, it is possible the posting dates can differ from actual dates. I've put a lot of links in it, but not each interview/photoshoot etc. will be in it.
I created this timeline as I often get questions about when or where, what took place, hopefully these timelines will be helpful to keep track in the right way.
It starts in August 2020. Before that there's a timeline I posted leading up to how he went to Hawaii when the pandemic started for about six weeks and came back home beginning of May 2020. Not much noteworthy happened between May-August. He did his motorbike exam and interviews from home. Only as of August he started to be out and about again.

Top ten productions in the last 5 years that you've seen?
KAT, STOP BEING MEAN TO ME. Honestly, I'm up to 60-odd productions, and narrowing this down was SO HARD. I peaked in 2018. Except that my NYC trip was in 2017, just a few months past five years ago, so Broadway Backwards and the OBC of Dear Evan Hansen don't count.
That said, here's where we landed. Organized chronologically, to avoid having to pick one single favorite among the standouts. Yes, I am open to follow up questions, and let the record show that "favorite shows I've seen" and "favorite shows" aren't necessarily the same, though that venn diagram is pretty close to a circle.
Under a cut because the list is LONG and DETAILED.
Sweeney Todd – 8 April 2018
This was a local production, with Tally Sessions and Chris McCarrell from New York to play leading roles, and this theatre just always does really really great work. My dad and I made a whole little day of it, and they did a Q&A after, and it was SO GOOD (you’ll see this same theatre come up again later).
If/Then – 29 April 2018
Another local production, but not where I live. I drove up to see it with one of my friends. Black box theater (where the stage and the audience are level, so everything is super close up and intimate) is my favorite kind of theatre, and it was INCREDIBLE to sit front row, half a foot away from the action It’s been like four years and I still haven’t stopped thinking about how much I loved the set too.
Newsies– 8 July 2018, 19 July 2018
Listen, I just really like local theatre, OK?! My area did two productions of Newsies the same summer, but this one was technically first. All local talent, and SO MUCH OF IT. The guy who played Jack Kelly honestly had NO RIGHT to go as hard as he did. I remember genuinely wondering if he was going to take down part of the scaffolding with how hard he was rattling it during Santa Fe. So good I had to go back and see it a second time.
Last Days of Summer – 14 September 2018
Remember that local theatre from Sweeney Todd? WELL THEY DID IT AGAIN. A world premiere baseball/WWII musical, starring Corey Cott (one of my personal favorite people). The show was FANTASTIC, and they let the audience stay for the cast party, so I actually got to meet/hug him. Also, I was freshly 21, so this was the first time I drank, accidentally. That’s a helluva story, but off topic for this post.
Dear Evan Hansen – 25 September 2018
Opening night of the first national tour stop in Denver. Need I say more? OK, I can say more. Uhhhh … check the tag ‘Katie and Rach: Destination Denver’ for the video I made about the roadtrip to see this show, and the highlights post from the show itself (from back in the days when Rachel and I liveblogged our friendship like hooligans).
The Play That Goes Wrong – 7 April 2019
I mean, you know how I feel about the entire Goes Wrong franchise, and this was what started it all. I saw it on a bad day, but then sat there and laughed for two and a half hours. It was SO fantastic, and I’ve been chasing it down again ever since. This summer, maybe …
Who’s Your Baghdaddy – 27 September 2019
I saw this one on a last-minute whim with my mom – of all people – because it was the end of September and the show I had tickets for got postponed (yeah, yeah, we’re all very proud of JerJor for being in Supergirl again, but the timing could have been better). It was the only thing I could find on my day off work, so we bought a couple of tickets as I swore up and down that I had no idea what the show was about, so if it was horribly offensive, it wasn’t my fault. And then instead it was hilarious and awesome and absurd in the best way.
Bandstand – 19 December 2019
A post-WWII musical about a group of vets starting a band to win a competition. The tour cast was INCREDIBLE, and the show never doesn’t give me chills and sobs. Bonus funny story: the community college that hosted the tour stop did a Q&A about the show and the history surrounding it before curtain call, and the professor running that totally spoiled the whole ending. At least I already knew how it went?
An Evening With Jeremy Jordan – 26 August 2021
OK, this is the one that was supposed to be September 2019. Three more delays (JerJor was in Little Shop of Horrors, COVID, COVID) and two venue changes (same local theatre, but it turns out they have more stages than I thought, and we ended up in a tiny event space upstairs from the upstairs. On the list for favorite venue, in terms of being beautiful and intimate and just perfect for the show they put on) later, it was my first indoor show post-pandemic, and it BLEW ME AWAY. Laughed, cried, lived, loved, all of it. A perfect, triumphant return.

The star-studded cast of Steal My Girl graced the red carpet on Saturday night ahead of the premiere screening, sparking an internet sensation like no other. The film itself received an average of 4-and-a-half stars from early reviews, launching it into the spotlight as a contender for the up-and-coming awards season, but the real news came from the carpet itself. Oscar-winner Louis Tomlinson (Kill My Mind, Back For You) made his first public appearance following the badly-hidden split from his management in early 2020, and he wasn’t exactly keen to talk about it. It was also the first time since his earliest work (Still The One is featured on our summer-vibes throwback list) that he’s attended the carpet by himself – rumours swirled that he’d split with his long-time girlfriend, but are the two things related? Tomlinson himself wasn’t spilling any tea, but it looks like one journalist in particular might have coaxed a little more out of him than anyone else...

The Intersection of True Crime & Social Media: When Does It Go Too Far?
By: Kayla Downing
Introduction
It is human nature to be fascinated by the macabre and the truly horrifying. Most people when they see a car accident on the side of the highway will slow down to observe the crash and comment on the aftermath. I think this translates into the modern fascination with true crime. True crime, as defined by the Cambridge Dictionary, are books, movies, podcasts, documentaries, etcetera about real crimes that happened to real people. The most “popular” genre of true crime tends to revolve around serial killers, gruesome murders, or kidnappings and torturings. True crime as a genre was brought to fruition in 1966 with the publication of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, however the genre stayed relatively obscure until the late 2010’s. True crime in recent years has become a common fascination, especially among young adult & teenage women. There are countless communities online dedicated to the dissection of true crime cases, specifically on Twitter (personal note: I understand that the name of the platform is now “X”, however, I will still most likely be calling it Twitter throughout this post) and TikTok.
Since 2018, true crime has seen an even larger spike in popularity, and during the pandemic the genre skyrocketed. YouTube videos on the genre saw a large uptick in views, and in 2019 it only grew larger. Channels like Bailey Sarian and her segment “Murder, Mystery & Makeup” or Buzzfeed Unsolved have been pioneers in the genre gaining popularity, especially within the young adult & teenage women audience.
So, why has this genre become so popular? What is so appealing about it, especially to women? What is the effect of this genre gaining popularity, on the families of the victims as well as those who are now investing in the genre? Within this blog post, I want to look at the Gabby Petito case (a very well documented murder case of how social media can affect murder investigations), the social media response surrounding the release of the Ted Bundy movie starring Zac Efron Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, and end out by understanding how this fascination with the genre affects our empathy and how it affects those who are closely related to those true crime cases.
The TikTok Hunt for Gabby Petito
Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old TikToker, was about to go on a cross-country roadtrip with her fiancé in their RV when she went missing around the end of August 2021. Her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, eventually returned to their shared home in early September without Gabby, disappearing off the grid two weeks later, and causing a widespread hunt for Laundrie and search for Gabby. People quickly pointed the finger at Laundrie, and all over social media people were desperate for clues to his whereabouts to bring him to justice for what was, at the time, the supposed murder of Gabby Petito. Eventually, authorities were able to find the remains of both individuals and rule their causes of death: strangulation for Gabby, and suicide for Laundrie. From there, the public widely considered Laundrie to be the cause of Gabby’s death, and that he had committed suicide to save himself from the guilt and backlash.
While this case is extremely tragic in a lot of ways, something that can’t be understated is how much social media played a role in it, for better or for worse. It is through TikTok that investigators were able to find the RV that Gabby and Laundrie had been traveling in, as a couple combed through their own video footage of their bus road trip to find the last known location of Gabby’s RV. This was instrumental in being able to find her remains and then eventually rule her cause of death as a homicide.
However, there were also massive downsides and setbacks associated with the public’s fascination and obsession with the Gabby Petito case. People were claiming false sightings of the couple, or spreading viral theories about what could have happened. While the police and FBI never outright spoke on whether or not these impeded their investigations, it seems in poor taste to use the murder of a girl to go viral on TikTok.
Doing things like that can separate the person from the case, and lower the empathy towards the people who are legitimately suffering because of this; it draws them into the limelight on an extremely sensitive and hurtful topic, all because people want to get a couple million views on their videos.
The biggest thing, in my opinion, that people fail to remember when these large cases go viral is that they’re real people, not fictional. False accusations on social media have very impactful consequences, and false theories can spread misinformation that’s potentially harmful to more than just the direct parties. In this case, spreading rumors about sightings of both Laundrie and Gabby could have led the police and the FBI in the wrong direction for their investigation. There are also adverse effects for the family members, as they are now thrust into the limelight over something that’s truly tragic.
The Response to Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile
Gabby Petito’s case is one of many examples of the desensitization to true crime through social media. Just recently, Netflix released their documentary series on the murderer Alex Murdagh only two weeks before the trial jury reached a consensus. It’s things like this that push our empathy out of our minds; after all, isn’t the psychology of a killer inherently interesting? But these documentaries don’t take into consideration the feelings of the victims. For instance, the creators of Netflix’s series on Jeffrey Dahmer didn’t reach out to any of the families of the victims for consent to create the show. A similar case happened with the release of their movie on Ted Bundy, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, which covered the Ted Bundy murders from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Liz.
This movie had seen its fair share of backlash upon and before release in 2019. When the movie was first announced, the casting of Zac Efron as Ted Bundy generated very controversial discussions. People felt it was “truthful” to the reality of the situation, as is commonly known from the court trial that people would proclaim Bundy’s innocence due to his attractiveness, and others called it insensitive to the families of the victims.
While perhaps the casting of Zac Efron wasn’t the smartest choice on Netflix’s part, it did create a lot of attention surrounding the movie, and therefore, the subject matter. People took to even calling Ted Bundy attractive and, from there, it was revealed that there even fan accounts dedicated to Ted Bundy, specifically on Twitter.
People began to put Ted Bundy on such a pedestal; saying enough things about him being attractive that even Netflix had to release a statement about the things everyone was saying. All in all, it was a very telling reaction to the general public’s view on true crime and how desensitized to the truly violent acts they are.
Social Media's Role in True Crime Desensitization
So, with all this being said, how does social media specifically play a role in the desensitizing of true crime & violent content to the greater public? Social media encourages the idea of marketing it as content (shows like “Cookies & Crime” or theory videos on people like Gabby Petito) rather than impactful news. When people watch a TikTok of a woman decorating a tombstone cookie while detailing the gruesome murders of a family, people aren’t registering the truly violent and, well, wicked things they’re hearing. Presenting the content in this manner does little to convey how dangerous, upsetting, and disturbing these cases are. True crime documentaries also exist at an all-time demand, especially post-pandemic where people found themselves scrounging for things to watch to keep them occupied. True crime podcasts consistently reign amongst the most popular podcasts, and new ones seem to pop up almost every week.
This subject matter, as gruesome it may be, honestly does interest me to some extent (more or less, the fascination other people seem to have with true crime). When I was first starting college, I also wanted to potentially pursue a career in crime (I wanted to be a criminal psychologist) but in my sophomore year, I switched to communication. A large part of why I switched was because the biggest reason for me wanting to go into that major was the glorification of criminal profilers and criminal psychologists through social media or shows like CSI and Law & Order. So, at one point in time, I felt the exact same fascination that most other women do with true crime – and that’s another thing; why do so many women love the true crime genre?
In my opinion, it’s because the young adult and teenage women are the prime demographic that most serial killers tend to target. While obviously there are cases like John Wayne Gacy or Jeffrey Dahmer who primarily target young men & boys, the large majority tend to target women. I think there’s also a fascination with understanding the mindset and motivations behind “psychopaths” or “sociopaths”. What drives them to want to torture? To maim? To kill? It’s questions that will hardly ever get truthful answers, and social media provides the perfect platform to build theories and communicate with other true crime fans to find out their own theories. It’s a vicious cycle that will probably always continue, and it’s one that (in my opinion) creates a want to be in the spotlight for these things.
More often than not, people are more likely to be able to list the names of countless serial killers, kidnappers, and torturers. Those same people likely cannot begin to name one of the victims of those terrible people. That’s in large effect due to the media's obsession with those who commit the crimes rather than those who have suffered; after all, where’s the newsworthiness in talking about the life of a woman or man who suffered? School shootings produce exposés and biographies on the shooters, while the victims get little more than a passing remembrance after the initial newsbreak.
Conclusion
I know that this blog may seem a little all over the place, but I’m hoping the spirit of my message can still be heard and understood. In my opinion, news media & social media are big reasons why true crime shot up in popularity and why so many people have become “obsessed” with the genre and have a morbid fascination with the subject matter.
I’d like to close this out by talking about the initial question posed in the title: when does this go too far? For me, it’s when the lines get blurred between understanding that these people are real and wanting to make content.
There is a need, especially in this day and age, to go viral by any means necessary, whether good or bad. People will lie about facial features (a la “Scar Girl” on TikTok), diseases (ticsandroses, who infamously faked having Tourette’s, or the countless young teens who seem to be faking Dissociative Identity Disorder), and more just to boost their view count. Controversy creates more talk and views than almost anything else, and true crime is one of the most controversial subject matters out there. Decorating and icing cookies as you touch on gruesome murders is, inherently, controversial; at its core, it’s dehumanizing the content in a way that it becomes hard to understand and appreciate the gravity of the situation. Those videos are filled with countless comments of things like “I love this case!” or “this content is so gross”; from there, people will share it with their friends to discuss, and at that point, the subject matter isn’t even entirely relevant to the conversation.
I think cases like Gabby Petito are a rare example of how social media can do good rather than harm in current true crime cases. There’s a term that was thrown around a lot during my research of “armchair detective”, in which people will sit from the comfort of their homes and try to solve violent crimes using tools available through social media. They will comb through post histories, playlists, anything they can get their hands on to (1) create theories on what could happened and (2) create viral content on these theories to generate either actual awareness on the issue (as I find, this happens rarely) or spark some type of debate. Armchair detectives normally do more harm than good in those situations as they can disseminate potentially harmful falsities that can impede an investigation (like what likely happened with Gabby Petito). However, it was these types of true crime fans that were able to identify where Gabby’s RV was and then help investigators locate her remains; it’s an extremely double-edged sword.
While I doubt that there’s anything I can really do to find or create a solution to stop this problem, I’d like to do what I can to bring attention to it. This is something I feel about deeply, especially considering I used to be someone who was really into and would consider themselves obsessive about true crime or serial killers. This type of content, and creating content specifically to go viral off of it, is harmful with really no way of changing it. Very rarely do these videos give spotlight to the victims. Beyond that, most families of the victims wish for nothing more than these types of stories to lose their traction and fade away. I can’t even begin to imagine how it must feel, as a family member of someone whom Ted Bundy killed, to see people idolize him and proclaim his innocence. Or how it must feel to see new documentary after film after TV show detailing who he was, how he murdered people, etcetera. As a whole, our society can do a lot better by these families, and I think we should. After all we’ve done to force the murderer of their daughter or son or sister or brother in their faces, I think it’s the least of what we owe them.

Gabby Petito’s Death is Tragic. But I Wish Missing Women of Color Got This Much Attention
Considerable resources were dedicated to finding Petito’s body. Yet Indigenous people in Wyoming are more likely to disappear and to be killed, and their cases are barely noticed
— Akin Olla | Guardian USA | 25 September, 2021
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said extensive news media coverage of Petito’s death should be a reminder of the hundreds of Native American girls and women who are missing or murdered in the United States. Photograph: Evan Vucci/AP
The apparent murder of 22-year-old Gabby Petito has been a consistent part of the American news cycle since she disappeared on 11 September. Her YouTube presence and participation in the Instagram #vanlife subculture, which involves young people travelling around the country living aesthetically appealing lives in vans and converted buses, provided plenty of content for internet detectives on sites like TikTok and Reddit to consume. Her story is heart-wrenching, especially after police footage has emerged of Petito and her fiance, Brian Laundrie, who is now a “person of interest” in her death, having a domestic crisis.
But the story also feels eerily familiar – so familiar, in fact, that there is a term for it: “missing white woman syndrome”. White women, particularly conventionally attractive middle- or upper-class white women, tend to receive disproportionate media coverage when they go missing. Petito’s case is tragic, but the media attention it has attracted replicates a systemic pattern.
Gabby Petito deserves justice; there is no doubt about that. Her death was ruled a homicide by a Wyoming coroner on 21 September, a few days after her body was discovered. She’d been missing for weeks after a roadtrip with her fiance, who returned from the trip without her and soon went missing himself. Her story quickly went viral on social media outlets: a Reddit forum created to track her case has accumulated more than 119,000 members at time of writing, and TikTok videos featuring her have received over 200m views.
“It is concerning when policy priorities are so clearly weighted toward victims of certain racial identities and social classes.”
The media joined in this explosion of attention, and public officials soon followed. The Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, declared online that he has directed all state agencies to assist with the search for Laundrie, who is on the run. I hope they catch him. According to 2019 numbers, however, there are well over a thousand other missing persons in Florida alone. Media attention influences how politicians and law enforcement agencies allocate resources, and it is concerning when policy priorities are so clearly weighted toward victims of certain racial identities and social classes.
It should be said that a lot of the attention that Petito received can be ascribed to the fact that she already had a devoted online following at the time of her death, vaulting her disappearance into an instant cause célèbre on platforms like TikTok and Reddit. But this does not remove racial bias from the picture. It is not as if media outlets conspire behind closed doors to prioritize white women, but producers, editors and news consumers have biases that influence coverage. This bias may even exist on an algorithmic level: Black TikTok content creators have long argued that their content is more likely to be suppressed. Dances created by Black teenagers are often scooped up and popularized by white kids who are able to amass a larger audience. One TikTok user has provided evidence that the platform feeds people content from creators of the same race as those who created content they’ve viewed in the past, further driving any other biases that may already be in play. There is nothing wrong with Petito’s case getting attention, but there is the lingering question of who isn’t getting the same attention – or any attention at all.
This is especially striking given that women of color are more likely to go missing in the US in the first place. The FBI believes that 33.6% of the Americans who go missing every year are Black, even though Black people constitute only 13.4% of the population. In fact, that number is probably an underestimate, because Black girls are often categorized as runaways and not as missing persons. Black children are also more likely to remain missing. Non-profit organizations like the Black and Missing Foundation have tried to fill the gaps in law enforcement priorities by shining a light on individual missing Black people and the statistics behind them.
Indigenous women have a lower official rate of missing persons cases, but there is considerable evidence that this is due to underreporting and poor coordination by law enforcement agencies. In 2016, for example, the National Crime Information Center, a federal database, found that 5,712 Indigenous women and girls had gone missing, but only 116 cases were recorded by the US Department of Justice.
Considerable resources were dedicated to finding Petito’s body in Wyoming earlier this week. Yet 710 Indigenous people have gone missing in Wyoming between 2011 and 2020. Indigenous people in Wyoming are more likely to go missing, and less likely to be found in the first 30 days. Indigenous women are 6.4 times more likely to be killed, and their deaths receive the least coverage in the state.
None of this reflects on Petito as a person or lessens the sadness of her death. The problem lies with our society, a society that passes anti-abortion laws that devalue the lives of women and those who can give birth, a society in which women who are murdered are usually killed by current and former romantic partners. The US needs to deal with the violence that exists within it, and must reckon with the reality that the attention and resources that go towards cases of violence are based on skin color. The harsh truth is, if Gabby Petito had been Black, her name would have long faded from the public consciousness, if it had ever been there at all.

Not The Devil You Know by forgedinbowelsofhell
Rating: Not Rated
Status: WIP (last update: 30 September 2019)
Word Count: 17,277 (9/? chapters)
Author’s Summary: “My name is Samael,” he corrects the woman, “and I am afraid I don’t know who you are.”
Rec Notes: This is a very unique post-season 4 fic with a time travel element. In it, Samael gets sent into Earth’s future and is inevitably found by Chloe. There is a lot of great angst with Chloe having a Lucifer in her life, but not her Lucifer. It also has some amusing moments with Samael being unfamiliar with modern humans and their inventions. Be warned though, the fic cuts off right on a good bit and leaves you wanting more.

Author’s Summary: Souls start disappearing in hell and reappearing on earth. A supernatural mystery that Lucifer simply cannot solve without the help of a certain detective (or maybe he just doesn’t want to).
Rec Notes: A great post-season 4 case fic which involves mysteries from both Hell and Earth, meaning that Lucifer gets a temporary vacation from Hell. It has all the angst you would expect and also addresses the huge flaw in the whole “guilt sends you to Hell” system.

Author’s Summary: She’s sleeping, her head resting warm and heavy on his chest. He plays idly with her hair, wrapping a strand around his finger and then gently dragging his touch to the ends, her locks sifting through his hand like silk.
Maybe if he just…says it. Out loud. Just to get over the hurdle. Maybe then saying it to her when she’s conscious won’t be so nerve wracking. He inhales carefully...
Rec Notes: Maybe I should have just recommended this author and have been done with it... they are such a good writer and everything they write is amazing. This fic is no exception. It may be short, but it’s incredibly fluffy.

Status: WIP (last update: 8 January 2021)
Word Count: 33,814 (7/8 chapters)
Author’s Summary: A few months after the reveal of her partner's devilish nature, Chloe and Lucifer's working relationship is finally back on track. But Chloe wants more. So when she discovers that Lucifer usually spends Christmas alone, she ropes him in to help with the preparations for the holidays, vowing to teach him a few traditions along the way. Maybe a little Christmas magic is exactly what their partnership needs...
Rec Notes: A must read for every Christmas. It’s a post-season 3 fic but was started before season 4 aired, so it’s not so angst heavy and even has quite a few amusing moments (especially in the Christmas tree hunting chapter). I also love the fact that every chapter starts with the line “What’s this?”

Author’s Summary: Roadtrips solve everything, right? So, things should work out fine when Chloe takes Lucifer on a roadtrip to Vegas after ignoring him for two weeks straight.
Rec Notes: Another post-season 3 fic. It’s got angst, it’s got action, it’s got Lucifer being protective of both Chloe and Trixie, and, finally, it’s got some much-needed comfort to go with all the hurt.
