This has been haunting me for days, but.
Thinking about how Gale is the undisputable "most monogamous" of your romanceable companions. That he'll approach you if you flirt with someone else and have this heartbroken tone and make you choose between him and someone else. That if you ask for an open relationship he gets genuinely hurt and asks that this is never discussed again. That he sets firm boundaries and feels the need to apologize for being "old-fashioned" and that he describes giving you his whole heart and being incapable of sharing yours.
And then I think of his relationship with Mystra, the GODDESS, and I get this uneasy feeling. I know that there was no possible way Gale could've communicated exclusivity with her, an immortal Goddess who is known for her interest in young Wizard boys/men (which is already so fucking weird but we don't need to get into those implications for Gale rn).
I'm just thinking about being in this toxic power imbalance relationship where one of the factors you value most is violated, and you can't even begin to communicate those boundaries, and I'm like. Fuck. No wonder he's so intense about it in his next relationship. He doesn't want to endure that again.

Gale and Cinna, a few days after channeling the weave together in act 1:
Tumblr media
Cinna: Gale?
Gale: I do enjoy our conversations. What do you need?
Cinna: I've been thinking a lot about what you said...
Gale: About?...
Cinna: About Mystra! I was always taught that she is the guardian of the weave we wield, and nothing more. Yet you claim she is all magic, correct?
Gale: Undoubtebly. Mystra is the very embodiment of the weave.
Cinna: Can I ask you something?
Gale: You may.
Cinna: If Mystra is indeed the weave itself, as you say, then why are her followers and chosen almost exclusively wizards and not sorcerers?
Gale: Whatever do you mean?
Cinna: I mean... if Mystra was all magic, then why would she not have the ability to, at least, choose who is born with the weave? Wouldn't she want her worshippers to be sorcerers like me, and have the gift from within? Evidently, she does not have the capability to choose, as seen by the many sorcerers who do not hold faith in her, including me.
Gale: *silent pondering*
Cinna: So I figured you may know the answer. If Mystra is the weave, then why was I, somebody without faith, gifted with the weave, and why did you, a loyal follower of Mystra, have to learn it?
Gale: *more silent pondering*
Cinna: *tilting her head, awaiting an answer or explanation*
Gale: *questioning his faith*

You know, when I started bg3 I didn't really like Lae'zel. Not for any particular reason, just her sort of character isn't one I usually vibe with.
Having visited the creche...hoo boy my opinion changed drastically. This is one game where, all my core companions. Love them. Adore them. Would kill for them.
Mostly the last one tbh.

GALE SFW HEADCANONS:
finally we got our lover boy here. its not a secret that he like gets super easily attached. i kind of hate that they patched that out bcz it fit his character so much. but yeah in my mind its canon he gets attached suppperrr easily also kind of the type of guy to love bomb tav. not in the manipulative way tho like he genuinely thinks hes in love.
he gives everything he has in relationships too like tav IS his everything. he can be pretty clingy but thats just cuz he loves them so much ❤️ ok yandere vibes hold on. not really but imagine.
the type of dude to draw pictures of him and tav holding hands in his diary (they are not drawn good) also definitely talks to himself a lot, or maybe to his cat (sometimes abt tav)
hands down the funniest mf at camp like hes the type thats just naturally funny he doesnt even try to be. its hard to take him serious sometimes bcz of it😭😭 he gets mad af about it too. like his funnyness is a blight on his existence he just wants to be taken seriously. also feel like he has the worst luck too like fucked up things always happen to him and thats also hilarious LMAO constantly has the camp in stitches
he has bad spatial awareness so hes always triggering traps and tav gets so mad 😹😹😹
love language:
giving= words of affirmation and quality time
always wants to be with tav. also loves to compliment them but he does it in his corny ass wizard way lol like in the most extra way possible. he cant just say "ur eyes look beautiful today" hes got to say some shit like "ur viewing orbs are looking most ravishing this eventide". i bet he would write poetry abt tav but he wouldnt give it to them bcz hes lowkey embarrassed 😔 like insecure in his ability not embarrassed by the action itself. he just wants to do tav justice and he doesnt think he can.
receiving= quality time
as long as tav wants to be with him too hes happy. he worries abt being too clingy so sometimes he'll distance himself and if tav closes that distance on their own itll make him so happy. like thats the best thing ever to him. to have somebody that wants to be in his presence and listen to him ramble.
i feel like gale is similar in height to astarion so like 5'11/6' hes probably closer to 5'11. like that is the most gale height to me. also hes a little thicker with some muscle. hes def got a lil belly 🤭❤️ his pecs are rlly smthng too like thats where most of his muscle goes. those look heavy let me carry them for u king 🤲🏻😼
GALE NSFW HEADCANONS:
A FREAKKKKKK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS MAN IS A FREAK. WHAT was that shit in the sky ?????? THE FUCK ??? like he is THE MOST kinky mf here he will do almost anything. ONLY with ppl hes comfortable with tho. otherwise hes vanilla af. i honestly feel like hes mostly submissive tho just cuz hes chill like that. equally gives and receives. like straight up tav is his BABY he will do ANYTHING for them. probably introduced to most of his kinks thru tav (and mystra....... unfortunately.....)
loves to give head. like dear god. will beg tav to let him for real. hes very good at it too
incorporates sooo much magic. will make fake!gale fuck tav so he can watch. will use hot and cold magic and all that. electricity. the thunder stuff or whatever its called. literally anything u can think of to spice it up. he has thought of it. will also do freaky shit like using magic to mess with tav in public if u know what i mean
doesnt have a high body count i lowkey feel like mystra was his first. and he hasnt smashed anybody since. until tav.
exhibitionist AND humiliation kink. so these work hand in hand bcz like i said he doesnt do kinky shit with ppl hes not comfortable with so doing it where strangers might see is ultimate humiliation for him. but also likes to humiliate tav with it too.
will say a lot of nasty shit. this i feel he doesnt go super overboard with but its nasty compared to how he usually is. mostly when hes begging.
im gonna say gale has a solid 5 on him. and hes got hair i feel like most of the companions do but it works rlly good on gale lol. like hes got a happy trail and everything 🤤 nice hairy armpits too so u know hes got that manly ass MUSKK 💦💦💦 anyway i think his pp is pretty straight. like a wand lol. its a pretty normal pp.
aftercare with gale is the best yo like he makes sure tav is taken care of first and then cleans up on his own unless tav offers which he usually tells them to rest lol. hes just so sweet.

How would the male companions go about helping/comforting a tav who’s “monthly visitor” came to town during their journey??
A/N: The timing of this ask is impeccable because guess what I just got? Lol. But seriously I would be mad as hell in the 5 or 6 days I’m supposed to stop my mind flayer parasite AND save the universe I ALSO had to deal with cramping and bleeding. Nu-uh. Nope. Sign me the fuck out. Goodbye cruel world, I would be DONE.
TW: Mentions of Menstruation; Blood
Tried to keep this Tav as Gender Neutral as possible so that it could apply to anyone who menstruates.  <3

Male BG3 Companions Helping Tav w/ Their Period
⭐ Astarion:
He probably notices it before Tav does
Of course, he offers to help “clean up” ;) (this may or may not get him a kick in the balls)
No, but seriously, if he and Tav are in a relationship, he’d have no qualms going down there himself every so often to “alleviate” some symptoms. That is, of course, if Tav would go for that kind of thing. Astarion won’t keep pushing it if Tav says “no”. He respects the hard boundaries Tav gives him.
Of course, he teases Tav a bit. Not horribly, and it’s all in good fun. But enough to let Tav know that this matter doesn’t disgust or upset him in the slightest. It’s blood for devil's sake! What creature would be better prepared to handle it than him?
If any of Tav’s clothes end up stained or they end up bleeding through them, Astarion has just the thing to take the stains out. Turns out, knowing how to get blood out of most fabrics is quite beneficial knowledge in the vampire community. Plus he has an instinct for knowing where the best tailors and seamstresses in Baldur’s Gate are. Should Tav need an emergency change of clothes, he knows just the place!
Then again, Astarion himself has no problem with the blood stains. After all, they’re traveling around killing monsters for gods sake! If anyone has a nasty comment about how much blood either he or Tav is drenched in, they better be damn quick on their feet. His arrows can shoot pretty far. ;P
As far as cramps or pain goes, if his previous, ahem, suggestion was shot down, he’ll make sure Tav takes a moment here and there to rest. He might even bother Gale, demanding some sort of heat pack. Scratch that. He’s most definitely harassing Gale for some sort of heating pack spell.
If Gale refuses, he might even try and figure out how to fix one himself. Granted fire and vampires aren't the best of friends, but Tav is the only one in the last two-hundred-plus years to see him as a person. A little scorching here and there means nothing if Astarion can let Tav know how much he values them.
🔮 Gale:
He’s clueless, okay? Tav would have to outright tell him. I mean yes, he was raised by a single mom, but she didn’t exactly share the details of this stuff with him. And it never came up all the years he was with Mystra because goddesses don’t exactly reproduce the way other Faerun humanoids do! Please forgive him, he really does want to learn.
He immediately offers to find a spell or potion to either pause or skip this one altogether. He gets that Tav may want to opt out of dealing with it for the time being, seeing as the two of them have much more pressing matters to attend to.
He’ll cast it himself if Tav wishes. Or he’ll find another trustworthy wizard to recommend. Although he does prefer to do it himself, he understands Tav might be uncomfortable with the thought of their new partner doing such a thing for them. His entire life has been spent studying magic, so of course he immediately thinks to use that to remedy any problem Tav has.
Nevertheless, should Tav choose to deal with it in the old-fashioned non-magical way, he’s perfectly accepting of that as well. He’ll enquire about which local herbs are suitable for such applications, possibly even soliciting the help of an herbalist or surgeon.
Gale wants to give Tav as many options for comfort as possible. If Tav’s concern is about heavy bleeding, he looks for answers on natural remedies to lighten the flow. Or he may even speak with a midwife about the best clothes and absorbent materials to use in the coming days.
As awkward as he can be in social situations, he’s oddly great in this endeavor. He treats it the way he would a Weave experiment- with an open mind and curiosity. At the end of the day what matters is Tav knows how much Gale admires and respects them. And that he doesn’t think of them any less for having this bodily function. If anything, he admires Tav more for being so forthcoming. It’s an ask that actually strengthens his and Tav’s relationship.
🗡 Wyll:
Wyll probably shies away from it the most. It’s not that he doesn’t want to help Tav in any way he can, it’s just that he’s a gentleman, and to his knowledge, speaking of certain subjects with the one you like, isn’t something a well-behaved gentleman would do. That being said, a true gentleman is always prepared to put away their discomfort in order to aid their friends, so that’s exactly what he does.
He enlists the help of Shadowheart almost immediately. He knows realistically, there are others he could ask (midwives, doctors, healers), but Shadowheart is an ally and a Cleric to boot. So her skills as well as her knowledge may very well come in handy.
He’ll go along with whatever Tav decides, but he, like Gale, recommends Tav either suspend or skip this round. He thinks it wise to have all their wits about them for the battles ahead. With demons like Mizora and Raphael running about, none of them can afford to get distracted. Again, if Tav chooses to push through it, he’ll be kind and supportive, and request Shadowheart’s healing in subduing some of the more troublesome symptoms. But deep down, he’s happier should Tav decide to use magic or spells to resolve the issue for the time being.
And then, Wyll goes all out in preparation for the next one. Once their fight is won, he can turn his attention back to his family- his Father, and of course, Tav. He makes sure his family home has a room for them, customized in many ways to Tav’s liking. Wyll has their favorite color blanket, a soft pillow, their favorite flavor tea in an enchanted flask to keep it just the perfect temperature… the list goes on and on.
He loves Tav so much. He just wants them to be comfortable, and to feel safe to express whatever feelings they have. After all, Tav is the best thing to ever happen to him.
🌱 Halsin:
The nice thing about him being ‘one with nature’ is that he has no unease regarding the subject. He is an archdruid, and some three-hundred years old at that- believe me, there’s very little Tav’s body could throw at him that he’s not ready to receive.
Out of all the companions, Halsin is the one most likely to not immediately suggest using magical means to pause or skip it. Instead, he has more natural aids at the ready- herbs, teas, heat packs, massages, and well, yes, even that. ;)
The difference between Halsin suggesting it and Astarion suggesting it, however, is that Halsin’s motivations are more focused on what he can do for Tav and their body; they’re not based on the idea of mutual satisfaction. Halsin has had countless lovers and years to understand pleasure. He knows you take turns giving, and he’s well very versed in that.
Or if Tav isn't up for that, he'll offer to shift into a cat and rest on their abdomen, using his body heat to lessen Tav’s cramps.
He’s also the most ‘normal’ when it comes to continuing their journey. He won’t make a habit of fussing over Tav unless they specifically request him to do so. Periods, however annoying and painful, are a part of life, of nature. Halsin believes it best to learn how to accept nature, and live in harmony with it, rather than try and prevent it.
If Tav does want to explore other means of stopping this particular cycle, however, Halsin will help them any way he can, even if he doesn’t think it very wise to mess with the flow of nature like that. As a druid healer himself, he knows a few things or too about reproductive spells. He can make it so the symptoms lessen, or temporarily subside until their perilous journey has come to a close.
Halsin may not want to settle for a single lover, but out of all of them, Tav seems to shine the brightest. He would do anything within his power to aid them.
Bonus! 💪 Minsc (and 🐹 Boo!):
He offers to fight it lol. Just straight up.
“What is this thing causing you stress? Tell Minsc where it is so he can destroy it for you!”
Boo basically has to be the one in charge of the situation, but then again, what’s new?
Boo finds the supplies Tav might need, and directs Minsc to them. Boo also directs Minsc towards either Shadowheart or Halsin, because they’re better suited for dealing with these sorts of things.
Once Minsc understands what Tav meant, he apologizes with a bouquet of wildflowers he picked.
And by ‘picked’ I mean mostly smooshed before ripping their roots out of the ground.
He's really trying okay, give the man some credit.
And give Boo treats to thank him for his service.

Arcane Hunger as Chronic Pain
I always wondered why in Astarion's case the tadpole "changed the rules" but it didn't do the same for Gale. This is such a small hint, but it's still there. It was hinting since the day one that Netherese magic was involved. I believe that because Gale's Orb is a result of a weave that was created with Netherese magic, the tadpole changed with the same magic only exacerbates the disease. Hence why feeding the Orb with the artifacts suddenly stopped working as it should. I can't even imagine how terrifying that must have been for Gale to see that the treatment he used for so long suddenly started failing him.
The very same magic that for Astarion made him be able to walk in the sun, enter houses and cross rivers, while I suspect for Karlach it was responsible for keeping her alive, for Gale was a literal death sentence. If Mystra in her infinite assholery didn't decide to stop the clock on the Orb for the sake of using it as the ultimate weapon to kill both her ex-boyfriend and the Absolute, Gale would be in great pain in Act 2 and Act 3. (Albeit I must admit it's kinda big decision considering that Mystra is Weave, so when she lets the Orb feed of her weave it's like some kind of magical cannibalism that can hurt her or can even kill her if prolonged? And ok, prop's to her for sacrificing herself like this for the mission, but still, telling your ex to kill himself is not good and in the end she groomed him, so this whole situation with him trying to impress her was kinda her fault too when she ignored her godhood and the imbalance in their relationship and didn't realize that unequal relationship is not something that anybody could accept. She as a goddess should have known this relationship is doomed simply by the fact that to her Gale will never be her equal, always be her subject, hers to command as one of her Chosen and always lesser than her, and should have just ended it before Gale got stupid ideas OR not get together with him in the first place as a responsible fucking adult).
If you traveled with Gale in your party, it was very much visible how much pain the Orb caused him when it inflicted Arcane Hunger on him. It's a miracle that he managed to walk through the entire Act 1, considering how quickly the artifact treatment failed him. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility if for the half of the Act 1 Gale was bedridden due to chronic pain (I'm seriously surprised I didn't see any fanfics using this idea for some angst yet). But because it's a game, and he is a companion, he had to be able to accompany you, that's why Arcane Hunger status stops appearing after the 3rd Artifact fails to sate the Orb, and you have the Conversation with Gale about his affliction for real. If it was not a game after this Gale would either have to try to consume even more artifacts to sate the Orb (which doesn't happen, he never asks you for more after the 3rd one fails) or he would be in constant pain, barely able to walk. Lying in his tent and suffering in silence while the party got increasingly worried about his state.

(Overhead inside the Stormshore Tabernacle, from a supplicant who stood for some time before the shrine to Mystra.)
I don’t know if you’re listening. I don’t know if you care to listen. I can’t imagine you’re inclined to pay attention to the words of your ex-lover’s lover. But I’m here, and I’m going to speak.
You took Gale to speak with you alone. Might be for the best. If I’d come with him, if I’d had a chance to speak with you… there might have been some yelling. And some swears. And you'd probably have got pissed and turned me to dust, or whatever it is that gods do with mortals who piss them off. But... I've noticed that he always seems to end up alone when you're involved. No friends except for a tressym. Locked in his tower, keeping the world away.
You’re the goddess of knowledge, you know things, so you probably know: I don’t like how you’ve treated Gale. And I’m not just talking about the whole orb detonation – thing. I’m talking about how you started a relationship with him when you… you’d been the roots of his existence for so long. He built himself on you, and you built him on you. You were always going to be special and – and everything to him in a way that he could never have been to you. You could erase him from existence with a thought. There was no world where you could have looked him in the eye as an equal.
And I imagine you’re up there in your, I don’t know, your god place, thinking, who the hells is this person to me like this. Well, I’m Fern. That’s somebody. I have a voice; I can speak.
I’m the one who’s living with the man you made of him. I’m the one who watched his face when you sent him your message, a message you knew he’d listen to. Don’t tell me you didn’t know – because, again, goddess of knowledge – that his regret would make him cling to the idea that you needed him, even if all you needed from him was his death. Don’t tell me you didn’t know that your forgiveness was an altar he was ready to cut out his heart on. You knew, and you used his guilt against him to make him dance to your tune.
But that’s done now. He didn’t do what you wanted, and now we’re here, and he’s talking about becoming a god.
And however many times I might have lain awake at night, watching that orb glow and fuming at you – because seriously, you could have fixed it any time? Literally any time, and you fucking let him hurt all that time –
Okay. I swear I didn’t come here to rant. The point is, we’ve got something in common right now, which is that we don’t want this for him. I know our reasons are different. And yeah, I'm being selfish here. I don’t want him to be taken from me. I don’t want him to be something aloof and above. I don't want him to be torn away, taken up in the cold of the stars and away from the warmth of the earth.
I don't want him to become what you are.
But it’s not just that. It’s because I see him. And I don’t think for a moment this would give him happiness or peace. Did you ever tell him, back then – when you told him not to push beyond the boundaries of magic, did you say Gale, there are some powers that mortals don’t get to have, or did you say Gale, you don’t need to do more, achieve more, be more. You don’t need to strive; you don’t need to prove anything to be worthy of me. Or to be worthy at all.
Did you ever say that he didn’t need to break himself open trying to be special enough for you? To deserve your attention, your love? Did you ever tell him that? Did you ever tell him that every flaw and failure, every bit of his brokenness, is worthy of love?
I don't need an answer to that. I know what it is.
So do you have it in you, to ask him again for the right reasons? Not because he owes you, not because mortals just aren’t allowed to do this, or because you’re a god and being obeyed is just what happens to gods. Ask him in a way he’ll hear. Do you have it in you to ask him because you care? Did you? Did you care at all, even in what whatever distant and patronising and fucked-up way a god cares for a mortal?
Ask him, because that man – just as he is – could rearrange the stars.
Ask him again. ‘Cause the way I see it, a god shouldn't be too different from a queen or a mayor or a fucking archduke. You have so much power over so many, and that just makes it easier for you to do harm. So when you do, then like peasants rising against a shitty king, people should get to call you to account. And you can lounge on your clouds and say that we're beneath you, or you can listen.
Ask him again because you want better for him that some lonely, cold, distant existence, comforted only by the brief moments where you get to hold mortals who you can never love like they deserve.
And if none of that means anything to you, then ask him for the simplest reason. Ask because you don’t want to be destroyed to make way for a new god. Because you don’t want to die. Tell him, I want to live.
Sound familiar?
I want to live.  What other reason does there ever need to be?
But you won’t. You won't say any of this. You won't apologise, and you won't tell him that he’s enough, that he’s loved. But that’s okay, because I’m going to say it. I’m going to say it again and again, as many times as it takes, until he believes me.

this is by no means an educated and informative post but rather a severe understatement of the rage i feel over the interview regarding one Gale Dekarios.
under the cut is a stronger criticism on the narrative's integrity with this ending; everything before that is tearing into the lead writer's statements.
note that I will be referencing other companions as contrast. this is not supposed to be tearing them down nor casting shade on anyone who enjoys these characters; i am trying to make a point through relevant comparison.
-----------------------------------------------
"the guy who starts off annoying everyone" that is such a blatantly subjective thing to say about a character.
for me personally, i Loathed shadowheart at first because of the immediate fantasy racism towards lae'zel. this is very clearly a subjective opinion as she's the most romanced companion, and I'm not mad about that in the slightest! she rocks! you can't judge a character on behalf of everyone ever. that's a foolish thing to do, full stop.
"constantly asking you to give him your most treasured possessions to eat" three times. he asks you for a magical item, three times. after that you are NEVER required to part with a magical item on his behalf again.
the game practically THROWS magic items at you for completing side quests, looting crates and chests. magic items are in ABUNDANCE and a lot of them won't be useful to your party depending on your companions and your chosen class. meanwhile, astarion's peculiar diet lasts the entire span of the game, creating a situation where should you choose to let him feed on you every night, you suffer a penalty to attack rolls, saving throws and ability checks OR waste a spell slot to remove the condition. astarion is most certainly in no shortage of fans and again! he rocks! but by comparison his effect on the player can stretch so far as to affect the final boss battle. gale's condition doesn't even make it past the end of act 1.
"at the end, he gives himself for the world" is it worth it though. is it really seriously worth it.
you can still defeat the elder brain yourself. it's not impossible. hell, with the right spells it's really fucking easy. are you seriously going to rob yourself of the satisfaction of defeating the final boss by sending someone to their death instead and calling it a day.
I can understand the narrative catharsis of a character who is so selfish, constantly, over and over, doing something selfless for the greater good.
But that just is not what Gale's story is.
Gale is ambitious and boastful, certainly. Gale is not selfish.
His attempt to impress Mystra - The Mother of Magic, Goddess of the Weave - came from a want to be equals with his partner. He explains how she refused to allow him to witness the depths of magic, and while that's a reasonable thing to enforce to a regular mortal, she had made him her Chosen, her lover. I would hope I don't need to delve into the blatant grooming (ie Elminster approaching Gale at the age of eight) and the obvious power imbalance between a goddess and a mortal in a relationship, but his desires - ambitious as they were - were not selfish.
When he asks for the player's assistance, he does so knowing that he's asking a lot from them, especially in terms of trust. While it's easy to see his pushiness for magic items as self-serving, it is quite literally a much larger problem than him. The damage he's capable of "could level a city", and that affects not just your party but the surrounding area for miles. His urgency, his impatience, comes from having to rely on someone else who might not respect the gravity of the situation (which, evidently, a lot of players don't.)
When he realises the magic items are doing nothing to prevent his hunger, he lays it out plainly to the player, apologising for having broken their trust, and gives them the choice to send him away to certain death with no hard feelings. He even explains his plan to find an Absolutist base and hopefully destroy that in order to aid you in his death, should you choose to kick him out. This is in Act 1, way before any massive character developments - that is to say, he is unselfish from the start.
Come Act 2, when Elminster tells Gale that Mystra expects him to detonate the orb to kill the Heart of the Absolute, Gale is immediately willing. He will answer to his goddess' whims without so much as a query. You don't have to convince him to do it - rather, it becomes your choice to convince him not to do it.
And you do have to convince him! You have to actively make the choice, over and over again, to say no, we can find another way. You are not dying today.
Even in Act 3, should you take him through Zethino's Love Test, you are able to call him out for his greatest flaw:
"He thinks he, and the world, might be better off if he were dead."
I am not calling him selfless by any means; he is not a paragon of virtue. He is, however, a character whose hubris (spurred by an abusive relationship with a goddess) is amply punished, so much so that he believes this punishment is entirely deserved. He is a victim of grooming who is told to kill himself in order to gain forgiveness for trying to be equals with his partner, who took advantage of him as a child.
What kind of message is Larian trying to make here? What are they trying to tell their audience? What are they saying to people who relate to Gale?
It's fucking horrible. Do better.

Lost Son of Mystra Au
What if, in order to prevent Karsus's folly from happening again, Mystra created a failsafe?
What if that failsafe was to craft a daughter, built from her essence, that acted as a weave energy generator so that magic will never be lost again?
But, what if, in a similar manner to what Gale did, she asked for a way to prove she wasnt just some battery but could be useful in other ways on the material plane?
What if, unlike with Gale, she relented and used a piece of the karnite weave to make a regulator so her magic wouldnt go out of control with no way to purge the acess magic she would generate on the material plane?
What if that regulator, was the orb?
And What if, her task was to bring her young talented wizards to make her chosen?
What if during this task she foudn that there were many areas that didn't take a woman seriously or were downright dangerous for a woman alone and so she used her magic to disguise herself as a man?
What if, after she began traveling as a man, she found she never wanted to go back? And in his first act of rebellion, he made it so he would never have to again?
What if this was what began the rift between mother and child that would grow wider and wider as he see's what she does to the boys he brings to her?
What if, the last boy he brings her is Elminster, whom he trains to be able to resist her influence so he can keep from getting used up and destroyed like the others before him?
Of course, when she finds out, she gets angry and demands that her daughter to do as she is told.
And He tells her to go fuck herself.
So, she violently removes the orb form his body and casts him away as punishment, effectivly making him for all intents and purposes a energy generator with nowhere for the energy to go until it bursts out of him. In sometimes brutal and devastating ways. (Wild Magic Sorceror on steroids)
So, in retaliation and guilt, he conspires and to some extent suceeds in warning others about what happens to the young wizards his mother casts her eyes on. (Think mincs story from his homeland.)
And then, one day, while working in Waterdeep as a traveling enchanter, he meets a young boy who talks his ear off about magic and all the spells he has been able to cast and comauns that his parents wouldnt let him have a kitten as a familiar.
So, feeling the strong connectuon the kid has with the weave already, he teached him how to summon one, culminating in him meeting his new tressym the very next day.
Then, as he is talking to him and his new friend, he feels his mothers eyes fall on the boy and not a few days later see's Elminster arrive in the city and leave with the boy.
So, he follows them, in an attempt to keep the boy from his mother and gets into a heated fight with Elminster while they belive the boy is asleep in his tent.
However part way through the fight, he is forced to flee because he could feel the magic burst coming, having to get as far away as possible to keep from hurting them.
He ends up having a burst so bad it renders him unconcious in the Astral for several years.
But, what if, unbenownst to the two men, the boy hadn't been asleep at all and saw the whole thing, always wondering why the kind street enchanter that always listned to his stories was trying to keep him from what everyone seemed so happy about?
What if, even after the boy eventually became Gale the Wizard of Waterdeep, that that night still popped into his mind on occasion and made him wonder...whatever happened to that man and why was he so adamant about him not serving Mystra?
Then, what if, in a similar way to Mystra's lost son, Gale wanted to prove himself worthy of being her equal and learned of a piece of the weave sealed away?
And what if, only too late, he now understood why that man was trying had tried to keep him away from her?
After he is cast out however, Elminster, against Mystra's orders, told her son about what happened to the orb, causing him to seek out the human man who was now cursed with it.
Only, just before they would have met, the illithid ship shows up and they both get taken.
When they join together, only he recognizes the boy, now a very attractive man named Gale of Waterdeep, as the one he tried to save and knows exactly what his mother did to him. So to make up for it he does everyhting he can to help him with the orb now bound in his chest.
Luckily, despite the often deep seated rivalry that happens between wizards and sorcerors, the two get along very well making it all the easier to help him and for both men to start to fall for each other.
But, after the orb starts to show signs of the magic items no longer working, Mystra's son finds he isn't able to discharge the extra magic in his system like usual and finds himself on the verge of a very bad burst that wraps him in a violent shield of volitile magic that is about to explode.
As this happens the orb responds tapping into Gale on an instinctual level traching him exactly what he needs to do.
With knowledge in hand he charges forward, through the field, dropping to his knees in front of him, grabs his hand a presses it against the orb in his chest, then pulls him inti a tight embrace.
Immedietly the magic begins to be sucked in causing both men to cling to eachother for dear life.
Unfortunately though, the tadpole takes the oppurtunity to snitch on him and reveals who he is to Gale, much to his frustration.
The orb's hunger rapidly dissipates and for the first time in a long while, it feels completly sated. Where the pressure that seems to always be under Mystra's son's skin recedes completly, causing him to weep for several minutes.
Afterward They have a long talk and arrange a system to keep both of them stable.
But due to the often close quarters nature of it, there feelings for eachother only grow stronger and harder to ignore. Culmminating in a very spicy makeout session at the celebration party that gets interuppted by a pair of drunken tieflings.
However, later on when Elminster appears to tell Gale what Mystra wants from him, he also tells Mystra's son, in cryptic language and facial expressions, the reason she is taking drastic measures.
He also brings with him an amulet that will channel the extra weave energy back into the weavw itself so he doesnt ha e to worrt about having another bad burst again.
Now stable, both men take advantage of what time they have left, but come morning post nut clarity kicks in and he wakes up the entire camp shouting: "It's the fucking Crown!"
Now knowing what his mother is up to he spends the rest of the game loving the shit out of his wizard and planning to use the crown as leverage to free both of them from thier conditions.
A deal that culminates in him giving the crown back to his mother in exchange for the orb to be removed from Gale and placed back in him, but at the cost of him becoming completly mortal.
And so, the two men live out the rest of thier lives together, perishing side by side as the orb destructs far away from.any known civilization.

9. Totally platonic (as sarcastic as you want to take that one...) 11. In public - - for whomever strikes your fancy. =D
(not gonna lie, this was from 2016 so I don’t even remember what the original prompt list was. I thiiiiink snuggling? So we’re gonna roll with that!)
As arduous as the days on the road were, the evenings tended to be enjoyable, even with the threat of the Absolute and the cultists approaching Baldur's Gate. It was a time to rest after the day of hard travel, and enjoy a meal with people who had become close friends. It wasn't uncommon for a dice game to break out (which usually resulted in Astarion or Wyll cleaning everyone else out of their gold), or Devi playing a little bit on her newfound violin, or Halsin telling a story from years past. Even Withers seemed to enjoy the evenings, tolerating Arabella pestering him with questions with seemingly-endless patience.
This particular evening saw Devi chatting with Karlach as both women shared a bottle of wine they'd looted from Moonrise Towers. It certainly wasn't what the upper class would have approved of – gods knew Astarion had turned his nose up at it – but it suited Devi's Lower City tastes perfectly fine. She took a sip from the bottle, grinning as Karlach enthusiastically told her a story. “Listen, Gortash might present himself as some hotshot Lord now, but even he can fuck up, and did back in the day. Insulting a visiting Lady from Waterdeep?”
“I can't believe he referred to her as a maid!” Devi laughed. As she passed the wine back to Karlach, she took a look around the campsite. Halsin, shifted into his bear form, curled up with Scratch and the owlbear cub, who still needed a name… Wyll, patiently teaching Shadowheart how to dance, under Astarion’s watchful eye… Jaheira, lounging by the fire, reading a book… Lae’zel, inspecting her armour for any needed repairs…
And Gale, sitting near Jaheira, also with a book in hand. In the firelight, his orb tattoo was almost invisible. He looked calmer and far more at ease than he had before the assault on the Towers, now that he didn't have Mystra's orders hanging over his head. Devi felt her heart twist a bit at the reminder of how close she'd come to losing him.
As if sensing Devi's gaze, Gale looked up from his book. Their eyes made contact across the fire as his face softened in a smile. Gods, how could that man get even more handsome than he already was? Devi felt herself smile back at him, grateful to all the gods (... even Mystra, she supposed) that her wizard was still alive for her to love him.
“Oh, you two have it bad for each other,” Karlach laughed, bringing Devi's attention back to the tiefling. “Ya know we were all betting on when you were gonna figure it out, right?”
“Wait – you were betting on us?” Devi incredulously asked. “... Who won?”
Karlach’s grin widened. “Withers, believe it or not.”
“Our walking skeleton is invested in my love life?” Devi blinked as Karlach hooted with laughter. “That's disturbing as all hells.”
“You don’t wanna know about some of the questions we were gettin’ from the Harpers and the tieflings at the inn, either. Lots of the tieflings remembered you two making eyes at each other in the grove and wanted to know if you’d gotten in his robes yet…”
“The tieflings were asking?!” Devi groaned as Karlach guffawed. “Oh, hells–” She suddenly squeaked as she felt a giant’s invisible hand wrap around her torso and start to drag her backwards, in a gentle yet inescapable grip. When she looked around, she saw Gale sitting straight up, holding a hand out toward her; she could sense magic crackling around him, almost as clearly as she could see his smug grin as he pulled her closer.
Now no longer obligated to share the wine bottle, Karlach laughed merrily. “Hey! I wasn’t done hogging your lady’s attention, wizard!” Clearly not seriously offended at having lost her conversation partner, she took a swig of the wine, watching Devi float around the campfire toward Gale.
Gale’s ears went red, even in the firelight, but his grin just got wider. “Perhaps not, but I grow lonely over here. And Astarion isn’t quite as pleasant to snuggle as Devi is.”
“I certainly do not snuggle,” Astarion interjected, glancing over from the dancing lessons with a raised eyebrow, ignoring Wyll’s snort of laughter while he guided Shadowheart through a spin. “Unless I am particularly intoxicated, in which case I’ll warn Gale that it takes quite a bit to get me drunk, and I like to nibble.” He glanced over at Devi as she was magically pulled around the campfire, giggling. “Although now I’m rather curious if she likes to nibble as well–”
“That is for me to know,” Gale primly said, “and for you to only hypothesise about.” He set his book down, then extended both hands to catch Devi as she landed on his lap; giving her a kiss on the cheek, he wrapped his arms around her waist, his smug grin becoming a soft smile. “Hello, love.”
“Hello to you too, handsome. Miss me?” Devi laughed and wrapped her own arms around Gale’s chest, soaking in his warm presence.
“Immensely. I find that I require cuddles from a pretty half-Elven thief with the cutest slightly-drunken giggles to make my night complete.” Gale smiled, his dark eyes soft with affection. “Have I ever told you that you are adorable?” he asked, his voice lowering so only she could hear him.
“Adorable?” Devi tilted her head at him, thinking. “Don’t think anyone’s ever called me adorable before.”
“No? Everyone else in your life has been remiss – because you are beyond adorable.” Gale kissed her nose, and chuckled when she wrinkled it instinctively. “See? My point is proven. Adorable, and clever, and beautiful beyond what mere words can describe.”
“My charming, handsome wizard.” Devi beamed and gave Gale a light kiss on the lips, then adjusted her position on his lap until she could rest her cheek on his shoulder. Gale had to shift her slightly to reclaim his book from where he’d set it down; once that had been retrieved, he opened it back up, holding the book with one hand while his other arm wrapped comfortably around Devi’s hips, holding her close to him. “Good book?” she asked after a moment’s comfortable silence, as Karlach took her bottle of wine to go sit with Astarion and interject somewhat-helpful commentary on the dance lesson (earning a groan from Wyll and an indignant raised finger from Shadowheart).
Gale hummed in confirmation. “It’s a book on the creation of antidotes for poisons,” he murmured. He adjusted his hold on the book and started reading in a soft voice, his volume not carrying much further than Devi’s pointed ears. “‘I was sitting in the Elfsong, sipping my usual hot cocoa, the heat soothing the pain in my scale-less hands…’”
Still feeling a slight, pleasant buzz from the wine, Devi snuggled into Gale’s chest, her fingers lazily tracing a pattern on his chest through his purple tunic. This, she thought to herself as she felt Gale’s arm tighten around her, was a perfect night. If it wasn’t for the Absolute and its cultists, she could have stayed like this forever.

Do you have any other Lae'zel ships that you like?
Lae'zel/Karlach (Lae'lach) is pretty cute. Lae'zel would obviously be mad horny for Karlach because of how impressive of a warrior she is, while Karlach would think Lae'zel is cute and pretty and small and all sorts of things nobody has ever accused Lae'zel of being. I also like the idea of Lae'zel having to grapple with a slight inferiority complex, being smaller and weaker and - in ways - possibly less mighty of a warrior than Karlach. And then Karlach of course just thinks she's great no matter what, and just wants to cuddle.
Weirdly I can kind of get behind Lae'zel/Gale, though idk if I'd actually want it to get properly romantic. Basically I like the idea of Lae'zel having something of a crush on Gale and being like "Oh, he's such a mighty wizard, the way he channels the Weave could make mountains crumble!" and then... well, it's Gale. He's just a giant nerd. This one is mostly inspired by some of Lae'zel's lines about him, notably:
"Gale is positively voracious" in reference to his consumption of magic items. I seriously think she sounds kind of aroused, and I think it's hilarious to imagine her getting turned on from watching him consume magical items. Like even she didn't realize she has a thing for that, but then she sees it and feels something stir deep inside.
Also she references his 'immense talents' after Mystra tells him to blow himself up. So it's obvious she thinks highly of him, and I like the idea of her kinda 'wanting' him, but him being too oblivious to realize it. Because let's be honest, they're pretty much exact fucking opposites.
Other than that, I've seen Tav pairings that were cute. I think there's definitely a lot to explore with Lae'zel clashing with different types of people she's not used to. I'd honestly enjoy a fic that was Lae'zel getting rizzed up by a Tav that was just SUPER into her. I like the idea of someone ELSE being the one to take the initiative and Lae'zel not even really being able to comprehend it. Like "I thought everyone on this realm found my people ugly af, why is this one flirting with me so much?"
To that degree, I can see Wyll x Lae'zel. That definitely has the potential to be very cute.
Honestly, Lae'zel x most people can work in my opinion xD just grab your dolls and mash them together.

Y'all...I need to vent about this to someone...
So, I started out playing BG3 and immediately fell in love with Gale, his nerdy excitement about magic, and, later on, his devotion to my PC, Eli. So, I made all the right choices, etc. to get with him at the expense of other relationships that were also really intriguing and tempting along the way, namely Karlach, Halsin, and to my complete surprise, Astarion.
I got the love confession, love scenes, and everything else that comes from starting a romance with Gale and, to be honest...I'm disappointed. If nothing else--and maybe this is just me--the extreme lack of sexual tension is enough more than enough to disappoint. I chose the non-magic variation of the love scene, but even the astral version was just lackluster. Again, could just be me.
On top of that, though, there is also the issue of him showing that he did not learn his lesson at all from the orb in his chest or the fall of Karsus/Gale. Zero lessons learned. He immediately jumps back on the "let's be gods--but it's okay because I'm a good person" schtick. Does not or cannot see that he is doing exactly what Karsus did. It's infuriating. Thought about ending things with him right there after his reunion with Mystra, probably would have if I didn't hate his sad/hurt puppy dog eyes so much.
In all seriousness though, the chemistry between Eli and literally ALL of the other characters is amazing so it's frustrating to become so disenchanted with Gale in act 3 after rejecting everyone else. I rejected daddy bear Halsin for this shit!
But the last straw that made this rant necessary? There has literally been more sexual tension in the last few minutes of playing than there has been with Gale since Act 1. And do you want to guess what scene I'm at? Just guess because I am still pissed about it....
The scene. With. The. Emperor. A fucking mind flayer has done more to come onto Eli in the first five seconds of this scene than Gale has since the weave sequence. What. the actual. fuck. This is in no way, shape, or form okay.
So, anyway, that's all for my venting. Still haven't decided how to proceed, but I can guarantee I am going to have the song "I Fucked Cthulu" stuck in my head for the next few days.

i dont know dick or shit about dnd or baldur's gate but i looooove how much minsc's line "in my homeland we hid young wizard boys away so mystra wouldn’t take them” reveals so much about the gender roles in certain civilizations… like imagine a culture in which girls are bred to be rulers and leaders but the boys are forced to practice in silence and secrecy because of this predatory goddess… if gale grew up in that sort of climate it would totally explain why hes like that. he's super clingy and emotionally attached after knowing you for like a second and how can you blame him when he's been essentially trapped in a tower his whole life (a la rapunzel) and you're this daring dashing leader gently guiding him towards his destiny (a la flynn rider) -- ESPECIALLY if you're a female tav because for all he knows WOMEN are the rulers and leaders of this world. of course he thinks you're the sun and the moon and the stars. he barely has the faintest concept of male supremacy and sees himself as like this plaything at your disposal but sees you as a being with greater purpose and meaning in this world. he also has this yearning to be equal to mystra much like a woman yearns to be equal to a man… IT'S SO…. RRGJUHRGGHFJGFGFGH!!!!!!! GALE!!!!! I LOVE YOU POOKIE BEAR!!!!!!!
gale is once again reminding me that my favourite character trope/trait/characteristic is just "man experiences misogyny" LIKE THAT'S MY FAVOURITE OF ALL TIME SERIOUSLY LMFAO. a male character being systemically feminized and oppressed really makes him ten times more interesting to me. AND I MIGHT BE VERY VERY DELULU HERE but i think it informs even the little things about his character in the game… like how he's always the one in camp cooking meals and wearing the most modest pjs and sporting multiple brands of his goddess all over his body with his earring, tattoo, even the vaguely spiderish vein below his eye that looks like it might be attached to his tattoo acts as an indrect brand of mystra… OOH OOH and the way he always introduces himself as "gale of waterdeep" instead of "gale dekarios", the same way a woman takes her husband's last name and abandons her maiden name -- as if he sees himself as more valuable when associated with his home and not standing by himself…. definitely not by choice mind you but because it's just an innate belief drilled into his head from childhood… LOL IM SERIOUSLY FUCKING DELULU HERE but idk idk i just love this weird trope of male-misogyny that i just absolutely eat up and see in everything i play/watch because i'm insane. idk. gale is just so girl-coded, like he's such a girl to me. only the girlies understand him fr. like almost every man and about half of the women i've seen talk about the game HATE gale but you know what? the REAL ones will get him. TRUST.

Lily does not deal with Elminster's visit well. At all. SFW.
“I’d hoped to introduce you to him in less dire circumstances, but those are hard to come by these days.”
Lily was not in a charitable mood. Rage was slowly building inside her after Elminster Aumar arrived at their camp and told Gale about Mystra’s request. “He didn’t seem much of a friend, showing up and demanding you kill yourself.” she muttered, crossing her arms over her chest.
Please, don’t make this harder than it should be. Gale shook his head. “It’s not a demand he wanted to make of me. As Mystra’s Chosen, he had no choice but to deliver her message, however much it pained him to do so. For Mystra to have sent him…The severity of her bidding could not be clearer. Or weigh more heavily on me.” I thought I had more time. Time to learn, to read, to love you… “Time seems so infinite when you are young…a month is an age, a year is a lifetime…it is a strange feeling, to realize how little of it one might have left.”
Her mouth dropped open, exposing her fangs. “You’re seriously considering doing what Elminster said?”
“Of course---he offered the clearest solution to our problem. All I have to do is find the right place and time, close my eyes, and let go…” And think of you. I want to imagine your beautiful smile as I leave this world. “Then the slate will be clean, wrongs will be righted, the Absolute will be gone…and I along with it.”
She was growing angrier by the second. “So that’s it? You’re on a suicide mission now?”
Please. I beg of you. Make this easy for both of us. He smiled halfheartedly. “Possibly the most spectacular one ever conceived, but essentially yes. I am living on borrowed time, in more ways than one. Perhaps…perhaps this is now it must be.” As she began to protest, he raised a hand. “But that remains ahead of us for now. The Heart of the Absolute must be discovered before I can stop its beating.”
“You’re not blowing yourself up, Gale. I won’t let you.” Lily yelled; her fists balled at her sides.
“Let’s save such certainty for the moment such a decision is upon us. You may feel differently, once we know what we’re truly up against.”
“OH FUCK THAT SHIT!” She exploded, throwing her hands in the air. “FUCK THAT, GALE!” Turning, she stomped so full of anger but also very elegantly in her way away from his tent. Their other companions dared not look at him.
He found her not too far away from camp, swinging the Everburn Blade against cursed trees. She was clearly in a rage, her normally demonic purple eyes burning red. And it appears her wild magic has created a barrier of protective lights around her. Gods, she is so beautiful…
“FUCK THIS! FUCK YOU! FUCK OFF, MYSTRA WITH YOUR BULLSHIT! AND FUCK THAT OLD MAN COMING INTO MY CAMP AND TELLING THE MAN I LOVE TO KILL HIMSELF!”
Gale’s eyes widened. She…she…she loves me. He cleared his throat and watched the tall, voluptuous tiefling turn to face him. “Lily, be calm. It’s only me.” He held up his hands and smiled gently. “Be at ease, my dear.”
She ended her rage and within seconds, crumpled to the ground and sobbed.
A lady in distress?! MY LADY IN DISTRESS!!! My knees are going to be sore later but needs must! He crouched next to her (oof, that’s my knees cracking) and tried very awkwardly to wrap an arm around her broad shoulders. “Dearest, please dry your tears. It breaks my heart to see you cry.” See and hear. The first few nights when I heard her crying for her mother. Crying when Shadowheart was treating her for some awful wounds. And now she’s crying for me.
Lily sobbed into her clawed hands. “I-I don’t want you to die, Gale! I love you.” She suddenly pulled him into a tight embrace. As if she’s afraid of letting me go. Oh gods. “I love you. Please, please we will find another way. I promise. I don’t know where it is yet, but I’ll find it. I swear!” Tears continued to flow down her freckled cheeks. “I’m a barbarian of Clan Wildheart, and I will protect you damnit. I will fucking save you.” A broken sob emerged from her, making Gale’s heart break even more. “I will save you…”
“Of that, I have no doubt.” He shifted so that she could rest her head against him, and he inhaled her scent. Lavender soap from the Emerald Grove. She bought it from that halfling fellow. I remember her saying her shampoo makes her smell like cookies. Good gods, she’s the perfect woman. “And for the record, I do not wish to die. I’m terrified.” He felt tears in his eyes. “But with you at my side, I so firmly believe that we will survive this. That we must survive this. Do you know why?” My heart is beating at a tremendous rate. “Because I love you too, my darling girl. I wish to spend every day for the rest of my life making you smile. I wish to greet the days with you and make love to you all night.” He chuckled. “All day as well, if I’m being honest.” Relief washed over him as he felt heard her chuckle, her strong yet incredibly soft body rippling. “So please understand that I’ve no desire to end my life prematurely. I will fight for you, alongside you, however you want me…for as long as I can.”
They sat (on the bloody ground---my poor knees) for a few minutes in a comfortable silence. Lily held one of Gale’s hands in hers, caressing the top of his hand with her thumb. “You know,” she whispered. “Da always said everyone has their fish---their ultimate catch. You’re my fish, Gale. I’m not letting you go. Not ever.”
“That is quite possibly the most heartfelt and infinitely strange way to describe falling in love I’ve ever heard, dearest.” He smiled. My heart feels as if it will burst with the purest, most radiant joy I’ve ever known. His fingers gently traced circles where soft, freckled skin was exposed. “I love you.”
Sighing contentedly, Lily closed her eyes. “Love you too, magic man.”
I could stay like this for eons and never grow tired of it. However…there is something else she should know…whether she accepts it is another story. Straightening and tapping her hand lightly, he cleared his throat. “I, erm, there’s another…issue of sorts we need to discuss, darling.” Gale watched her gaze search his as she sat upright. “This earring isn’t simply a fantastic piece of jewelry.” He squeezed his eyes closed as he caused the glamour to disappear. “I-I understand if this is a deal breaker---that I lied. Again. However, I can explain—”
Gale never got a chance to explain.
Because Lily’s lips crashed into his, kissing him passionately and cupping his face in her strong and sexy hands. She chuckled as she leaned her forehead against his. “You’ve got nothing to explain, love.” She wrinkled her nose and giggled before kissing him again. “You’re still very yummy.”
“Is that so? I’m…yummy?” Yummy? No previous lover of mine has ever called me yummy. Am I yummy?
Lily gave him a quick peck on his bearded cheek before heaving herself up to stand and then offered a hand. “I can see the wheels turning, Gale love, and yes, you are yummy. Very much so.”
He very gratefully took her hand and stood. Oof, that’s my knees again. And my back. “I would say the same thing of you, darling, but first things first,” his brown eyes sparkled as he wrapped his arms around her thick waist and rested her head under her chin. “I love you, sweetness. I promise I will do everything to live. To survive.”
Before Lily had a chance to speak, her stomach did for her.
Rumbleeeeeeeeeeeeee.
They burst into laughter, and Gale could not help but giving lady love the most gentlemanly tap on her luscious ass. I wonder if she’ll let me—
“To make dinner?” she asked with a grin.
He stepped back and bowed. Again with my damn back!!!! “As my lady commands so I shall fulfill all her wishes, including dinner!”
It wasn’t the finest dinner---a pork stew with potatoes.
But I know there will be thousands more to come…
With my beautiful Lily at my side.

WIP Whenever
Thank you so much to @yourworsttotebag for the tag!!! I LOVE BEING TAGGED<3<3<3
Tagging: @kvella @waningicarus @burntheupholstery @amarmeme @plethomacademia @the-resurrection-3d @nonsequitur22 @notebookishtype @kitebird-hockey @apparentlynotreallyfinnish
(I wish I could tag all my writerly mutuals...but A) I have so many (<3) and B) I'm still so confused about tag game etiquette can someone pls explain it to me lmao??)
I'd like to share snippets from my tentatively named wip, "anamnesis". It's in response to a prompt by the lovely @waningicarus who asked for a DJ!Shadowheart, forced by Shar to forget Gale. Juicy, I thought, as I opened up my laptop and tentatively typed away some notes...
Fast forward to now, and I'm somehow stuck with a wip about early-onset dementia and the burnout that comes with caretaking sprinkled with elements of Greek tragedy/Greek mythology LOL. I'm also workshopping it for the upcoming spring session of the @fanauthorworkshop to ensure I finish it. Fingers-fucking-crossed it'll stay under 10k.
Snippets are under the read more (CW: violence):
She screams at him; bites at him; punches him; knees him; but it’s okay. Even as blood drips from his broken nose, as his bruised ribs sting from her kicks, or as his piercing-torn ears ring from her shrieks, it's okay. She’s Shadowheart, he’s Gale, and he was born to love her. So, it's okay.
At the eleventh hour, the Devil comes knocking. "Mystra." Raphael tut-tuts, as he slides into Gale's armchair. "Ever the disappointment." "Why are you here, Devil?" "And why do you ask a question you already know the answer to?" Shadowheart.
"Who am I?" "Your name is Shadowheart. You like night orchids and animals. As a child, you kept a pet mouse called Nibbles. Wolves scare you, but dogs do not." "And who are you?" "Gale." His voice doesn't shake this time. "And I take care of you."
Knowing me, it's extremely likely that none of this will end up in the final draft, but I seriously just need to get this Done. Bitches, I've a deadline to meet, and I will not let my readings on Greek mythology and tragedy come to a waste.
Anyway, excited to see what ya'll have been working on, if you care to share!
