when adam met 11yo keith he immediately knew that keith was gay and was like i have GOT to support this kid!! (runs into traffic) meanwhile shiro spent years operating under the assumption that keith had like a gender thing going on

Really loved your Beauty and the Beast Au! Youre an amazing writer, and it drew me in with like the first sentence! I know Lance is bitter about his situation (gosh love that langst) but I'd love to see how long and how the castle inhabitants would react to Lances situation. Is there more Langst? Found family fluff? What makes Keith a beast??
Thank you for creating!
ooooooou thank u for asking bc this forces me to get into brainstorm mode (so i might actually update lol). this got super long so im gonna put a readmore
yes lance is super bitter about his situation and he absolutely has a right to be. he, like belle, is most definitely the town outcast/weirdo, but unlike belle, he's not the smartest person in town?? like he's not a huge reader, he's more of a math person but even still. he's not strong like his brothers so he doesn't work well on the farm. he doesn't articulate himself well so people generally think he's dumb, even though he's really not. he gets frustrated at school because the way he makes sense of things doesn't line up with the way he's supposed to do things, so he doesn't do well. he has excellent aim, but he's a horrible hunter because he refuses to kill any animals (he loves them too much). he's kind of the disappointment on every end, and he knows that, and he hates it
he wasn't necessarily SURPRISED that he was chosen to be the one to be sent up for the beast, but he's hurt anyway. it hurts him more because it was up to the ENTIRE TOWN to vote, and his family has nine people besides him, and literally only three people (veronica and his niece & nephew) didn't vote for him and that hurts him so so bad. he feels super betrayed by his family, and it's worse bc he knows they love him and they try their best to include him & do what's best for him but they genuinely don't know what to do for him so the relationship is pretty strained
the inhabitants are very used to lance's situation, at least initially!! the way i have planned out is that keith's parents died when he was around 6, and so keith was made king, but obviously the poor kid was miserable and grieving and in WAY over his head. his uncle, zarkon, was gunning for the throne obviously, and as keith's new guardian he kept trying to convince keith to give up his rights to him, but keith never even heard a word from him like he would just scream at every person who so much as looked at him wrong. none of the staff could handle him, with the exception of shiro, the oldest squire of the kingdom(late teens) & keith's only friend/older brother figure, and even that was strained, but shiro loves keith and did what he could to support him. however since zarkon wanted that throne so bad, he made a deal with an iffy enchantress, honerva, who came to the castle one rainy night and begged for shelter. since, again, keith was 6 yrs old and literally had the worst possible thing that could happen to him happen, he was horrible to her, so she cursed him -- he would look as beastly as he feels inside, and if he doesnt find someone to fall in love with him & marry him in 20 years, he was gonna be stuck that way. all the workers of the castle got stuck as household objects w him too bc zarkon, who sucks, paid her extra to make that happen, and then dipped before he could be affected.
to try and save themselves, the kingdom staff came up with a plan -- they would invite a noble kid keith's age to be his betrothed, to come live with him for a while and be keith's royal consort basically when they were old enough to get married. common occurrence! except...keith is not only still grieving, but now he's literally cursed AND he's feeling hefty guilt about how the rest of the staff is cursed only he has no idea how to express himself so it just comes out as rage. obviously the noble kid backs out after like a month of being near keith. this happens again, and again and again, until the staff (namely shiro & adam) had no more noble kids to choose from, so they trickled down to the townspeople. over the years, this info passed from town to town, and evolved into a lottery that each town did when it was their turn: they would send a young person around the prince's age to be betrothed to him. should this young person manage to find the prince agreeable and marry him, regardless of the lack of royal blood in their lineage, they would become his equal, and their family would be treated accordingly. (so it makes SENSE why lance was sent. lance knows that by marrying the prince he will do more for his family than he ever would be able to otherwise. still hurts a bunch.)
shiro & adam and everyone else in the castle is well used to a new person coming to win keith's heart. keith is rude & jaded & honestly kind of mean (he's traumatised), so they're also used to no one lasting more than two months before quitting.
lance, of course, is a special case, because he is the most stubborn person alive. most people who come are afraid of keith. lance is fuckin' mad at him. lol.
yes there will be found family fluff!! and, also, lance's family situation is stupid complicated BUT he still loves them and they still love him and there WILL be a nuanced perspective. this fic will be about CHOICE, even when that choice is hard as shit.
feel free to send me more questions!! i will have an update soon hopefully

It's 2023 and I'm angry once again about the shitty writing in the last few seasons of Voltron.
Today's topic - Shiro. More specifically his romantic relationships - and the wasted potential.
I think I'm mostly annoyed at how the writing choices just don't make any sense to me. Specifically the part where they literally didn't give us any information about Shiro's love interests. Nothing. Like who does that? Who writes a romance where one half of the couple is entirely an unknown? They didn't do that for any other main ship in the show, only the lgbtq+ one and maybe it wasn't intentional but it kinda rubs me the wrong way.
Correct me if I'm remembering wrong but I think the one scene they show us of Shiro and Adam is in the midst of a fight - they don't really show their relationship in exactly a good light and it's the ONLY thing they give us of them. Why is that the only thing you show us. How did they meet? What was their relationship vibe? Milestones in their relationship, important moments, uh what kind of person Adam was? Anything? ANYTHING??
Don't get me wrong, all the Adam x Shiro fanart and speculations are absolutely amazing, and y'all are an absolute wonder, I hope everyone who does ship Adam x Shiro keep finding all the joy and happiness in that ship - but just, I find it personally hard to ship two people when I know vastly more about one of the people and nothing about the other. And there's some part of me that almost feels like Voltron did this on purpose. They put no effort into Adam and Shiro and it pisses me off. And then! They continue to put in zero effort, and kill Adam off! Okay fine! I guess he was just meant to be a side character, cannon fodder for Shiro's tragic backstory, WHATEVER I HATE IT BUT OKAY?!
BUT T H E N, they have the opportunity to start over again with another romance and they STILL DON'T SHOW US SHIT. Who does Shiro even marry wtf was his name? Curtis??????? DO WE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MAN. AN Y T H I N G. HOW MUCH SCREENTIME OF HIM DO WE GET, PRAY TELL. WHO IS CURTIS HUH. TELL ME ABOUT HIM, I AM ON MY KNEES. I AM ASKING FOR THE BARE MINIMUM HERE. CURTIS AND SHIRO AS A RELATIONSHIP DESERVES BETTER. PUT IN SOME DAMN EFFORT. WTF.
And I would perhaps be able to make my peace with it, if I didn't feel that they ignored literally the perfect candidate for a relationship with Shiro after Adam, with all of the foundations already fucking BUILT. It would have taken so little effort at that point to write a compelling relationship where BOTH characters are well known and loved. I am talking about MATT. Hear me out.
We actually KNOW Matt. We are fond of Matt. He is our meme lord. He is our bespectacled (or not so bespectacled anymore) badass. A rebel, a staff wielding king. And not only that, he has known Shiro for a damn long time. He was literally in the first scene of the show WITH Shiro. They worked together at the Academy and in the field, not knowing each other that well of course, but got thrown into that entire Galra kidnapping situation, protected each other in the field, lost contact, got reunited, became friends - meanwhile Matt became like, a ten bajillion times more confident in himself, more reassured, taken on a leadership role, a scenario where it could potentially lead to some people (AHEM perhaps a certain person with one arm) sitting up and taking notice after years of knowing the other person -
Like do not try and tell me that's not the perfect set up for a developing relationship. Someone you've known for a long time, circumstances push you to work together, get to know each other, save each other, and you get closer and eventually realize hey. I think I might like this person. That shifting dynamic, that developing relationship - what could be better? AND IT WAS BASICALLY ALREADY IN THERE. IT WAS SITTING RIGHT THERE, IT WAS XISNJSNJSBDJDNDNDBDND
Also they would be an absolute power couple, don't even lie to me.
Their personalities are so fucking compatible as well. Like Shiro's seriousness and competence and dry humour in contrast with Matt's endearingly nerdy brand of goofiness along with his own competence/skills? Can you imagine how adorable that would've been?
Not only that, Shiro is already basically Pidge's pseudo older brother. They have such strong sibling vibes, can you imagine how awesome it would've been if Shiro had actually become Pidge's brother in law???
Not to mention having Matt start up a relationship with Shiro - bisexual/pansexual representation.
All I wanted was SOME effort. Like, I would have been perfectly happy with Adam X Shiro or Curtis x Shiro if the writers had simply put in an ounce of effort into making it convincing. It's such lazy writing and it makes me so upset, thinking back on it. And it makes me even more upset realizing they could've made it amazing by picking a character that already has the perfect setup. the lack of effort almost feels intentional, because it wouldn't have even taken that much to make a convincing, well written relationship. ThIS is the representation you hinted at for so long? This is what we waited for? Are you fucking joking. I'm gonna riot, Shiro and Adam and Curtis deserved better.
I have a feeling thinking about this stuff is gonna make me spiral and sooner or later I'm gonna start ranting about the lack of effort they put into Allura and Lance as well And the lost potential of Klance of course
God, Voltron was such a shit show.

Okay so reading non spoilerific things for voltron season 7 on tumblr made this season seem much worse than it actually was. I liked this season a lot compared to the last one and yes it has a few very glaring flaws (which I will address) but overall it wasn't as huge a shitshow as some of you guys were saying?
Obviously the biggest issue is the bury your gays trope that they essentially used twice on Adam and Ezor/Zethrid and no matter how you look at it the deaths were unnecessary and honestly unforgiveable considering the way they used the hype as a marketing technique. Ezor and Zethrid being lesbian coded villains is a huge problem, we're tired of LGBT coded people being seen in villainous lights. Dreamworks and Netflix fucked up hard there and everyone being angry is justified. Now, that being said it is entirely on Dreamworks and Netflix, I'm not blaming the writers or the VA's. thats not the point of this anyway.
Moving on, I had a huge problem with how many times Lance was dismissed and called stupid by others but most of all by his fellow paladins and Keith especially. Why was Keith such an asshole this season? All the progress made from previous seasons on Lance and Keith's relationship went out a fucking window??? Lance literally calls him the future and not even two seconds later Keith completely dismisses that and claims he'd rather not be stuck in eternity with Lance and that was his only reason for voting for Lance to leave. A+ assholery toward your right hand man there, Keith.
also calling out your sharpshooter and telling him to not miss even though he never has??? He's your fucking sharpshooter, Keith. But sure, insult him and then rely on him to essentially carry your mission. Nothing wrong with that. Lance also hasn't been addressed in terms of his insecurity and mounting depression but sure, we have one more season and I have no hope that it will ever be addressed. I really hope they bring back that easy comraderie between Keith and Lance cause honestly I miss that.
Shiro continues to be torture porn, which ive addressed before but I will address again. Shiro had //zero// time to mourn Adam's death. 4 seconds max, and yes you can hear the sadness when his voice cracks saying I'm so sorry, but after everything he's been through he should have been given more time to mourn. This show has a huge problem with letting their characters mourn with the exception of Pidge and Allura.
Hunk finally got to do so this season and it was wonderful! Keith comforted him and let him talk and he had emotional flashbacks, where the fuck was that for any other character??? Keith has a few scenes in front of his fathers grave and lance mentions his family frequently but with no comfort and no chance to really express grief past a sad look or a short sigh. Shiro lost so much and throughout the entirety of this show he's been a punching bag, a readily used scapegoat to bash around and my god I'm tired of it.
He has a possibly incurable disease, he gets abducted my a hostile alien race and dismembered in favor of a prosthetic of galran design that no doubt caused him so much grief and made to fight for their amusement or die in the process. He gets hurled into a space war with 5 young adults and 2 aliens and has an evil monarch become obsessed with him to the point of battling him for the control of a sentient robot lion which kills him and merges him with the lion he fought so hard for to earn its trust. Had to watch a clone take his place among his friends, betray his friends and struggle to get in contact with his friends until he finally gets through to his closest friend and explains that he fucking died only to be brought back into a body that isnt truly his and have it almost reject him. His closest friend has to fight a clone of himself, ONE OF THOUSANDS I MIGHT ADD, all made without his consent and possibly still around because haggar is still a thing, and know that clone almost killed said closest friend. Comes back to earth to find his almost fiance is dead years before he could arrive and see him again, is given zero time to mourn said loss and gets hurt having a new arm replace his old one that is no more. And the possible worst infraction on Shiro is how easily Keith was able to take control and earn the trust of the black lion when Shiro literally died fighting to be her paladin.
Let's stop making Shiro torture porn please, I'm entirely amazed that Shiro is a functional person after everything that happened to him.
I'm not even gonna talk about the weird thing between Lance and Allura because I love allurance but the way its being written is skeevy and rebound-y and I'm really not into it.
That being said, there were some huge pluses this season, the biggest being Hunk's character development! He was such a driving force this season and his character development was off the charts. He shined so bright and honest to god made me cry with his family arc and knowing they were captured and he couldn't save them immediately. Ugh he was so good this season I hope this continues into the next, he deserves so much more.
Matt showing up looking like a fucking snack was a plus too, holy shit. I wanna know more about the alien he was holding hands with!! And Shay! I'm so happy to see her again! Honestly the entirely first half of this season, aside from the game show episode which made me incredibly uncomfortable despite bringing lotor back, was great! I loved watching them have to work out how to survive without the castle of lions to fall back on, it was interesting and it didn't forgive them for making mistakes and that was A++
Idk, these are all just my thoughts and I'm not going to step on anyones toes on how they feel about season 7. If you hate it then you hate it, if you liked it then you liked it. In the end it's just a cartoon and yes it means a lot to people but it isn't the end of the world and it shouldn't be.
I'm gonna keep watching it and keep loving the characters, especially Shiro who is still gay rep despite everything, and I hope the ending is as spectacular as the first episode of season 1 was. Sorry this was so long, I just had so much to say haha!
