You hadn’t anticipated seeing him. When you left the Boston QZ five years ago after finding out you were pregnant, you never wanted to see Joel Miller’s face again. Not after you broke the news and he told you to get out - that he wanted you gone. Tess had told you to give him a few days to cool down and let the news sink in, so you did. You waited a couple days, which turned into a week and another and once a month passed, you realized you couldn’t wait around for Joel to get his head out of his ass so you packed up and left Boston. You had heard rumors of settlements out West and took the chance of going to one. It was a risky move, especially being pregnant, but raising a child in the QZ was impossible. Bringing a life into this world alone was cruel but if you could make it to one of the settlements, you thought maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. And you did. After months of traveling and close calls, you made it to Jackson. You couldn’t believe how close to normal it was there. It felt like before the outbreak which felt impossible but somehow they did it. You made friends and had support when you finally delivered. 

Little Jack came into the world with the helping hands of Maria and your friend Avery. You named him after Jackson, the little community that welcomed you with open arms. He was absolutely perfect and as he grew, he looked more and more like Joel. It hurt you that Joel wasn’t here to see his son grow but he had made his decision the day he told you to leave. 

The life you built in Jackson was good enough. You taught at the small school in the morning and spent the rest of your day with Jack and your friends. Every so often you went on patrol but with Jack, you had to find someone to watch him. Avery offered to keep him for the afternoon while you went out with Maria and some others for a quick patrol. Someone thought they heard gunshots going off and your group was sent to check it out. You thought you would come across some raiders or maybe a couple stragglers but what you weren’t expecting was to find Joel Miller and some random kid. It didn’t surprise you that he was looking for Tommy and you watched for Maria’s reaction when he told her his name. 

In Jackson, Joel’s name wasn’t a popular one to those who heard it. Tommy had recounted the days that he, Joel, Tess and others had spent that still gave him nightmares and you didn’t have many good things that you shared about him. You kept the good things to yourself and only let yourself think about them on nights you were particularly lonely or sad. She hid her reaction better than you would have but you were a little surprised when she invited them back to town. As soon as you got back, you went straight to the stables to drop off your house before going to pick up Jack from Avery’s. You wanted to just go home but he fought you tooth and nail to go to the dining hall to see Hazel, an older woman in Jackson who was the first person to take you in when you first arrived. She treated you like a daughter and in turn, treated Jack as a grandson. 

When you got there, Hazel was delighted to see him and you couldn’t help but smile when Jack squealed and ran straight for her. Watching them, you felt a set of eyes on you and when you looked, they met Joel’s. As usual, his expression was impossible to read. He was sitting with the girl, Ellie you’d briefly heard, along with Tommy and Maria. 

“Some new folks, huh?” Hazel asked, breaking you out of your daze. She knew the story about Joel so you were hesitant to tell her who they were but she would find out eventually.

“Yeah, Tommy’s older brother and the girl is Ellie,” you told her, “apparently they traveled all the way from Boston.” 

You watched as the realiztion slowly dawned on her face, hiding an amused smile when she said, “where’s my shotgun?” 

“It’s fine,” you tried to reassure her, “I don’t think they’re staying.” 

She huffed, “I should’ve poisened that food.”

You shook you head, taking Jack when he reached out to you. He was getting sleepy, resting his head on your shoulder and babbling nonsense. You could still feel Joel’s gaze, so you told Hazel you would see her tomorrow and started walking out when you heard your name called.

Tommy. 

You weren’t sure what his plan was, he knew your past with Joel so you took your time walking over to where the four individuals were seated. Maria was giving Tommy a dark look and you knew she didn’t agree with his interfering. 

“Hey,” you said lightly, trying to ignore Joel’s eyes that were now focused on Jack. Ellie was looking between you and Joel and you could almost see the wheels turning in her brain. 

“I was wondering if you had time to take Ellie to the house next to yours and let her have a shower? Maybe find some new clothes?” Tommy asked and held his hand up when Joel started to argue. 

“Sure,” you said, motioning for her to follow you. She gave Joel one look before following you out the door. It was cold and you hugged Jack, who was now asleep, tighter to you. She was silent until you were a couple minutes away from the house, whistling. 

“So, I take it you and Joel know each other?” She questioned, walking faster to keep up with you. You wanted to drop this kid off before she accidentally got answers out of you. She continued pestering you after you just shrugged and you wondered how Joel, of all people, managed to make it from Boston with the girl. She seemed sweet enough but lord, she was chatty. 

“What’s his name?” She asked, pointing to the sleeping boy in your arms as if there was another child around.

“Jack,” you told her and she smiled.

“Like, Jackson?” 

“Nice catch,” you praised and she grinned. 

You showed her to the shower, before searching for some clean clothes. It took a few trades but you managed to get her some fresh clothes and a new jacket. When you returned to the house, you ran into the one person you were hoping to avoid. He froze when you walked in the front door, clothing in hand and Jack still on your hip. Your back was aching from carrying him but he was unusually clingy. His eyes locked on Joel, head tilting slightly before reaching out for the older man, surprising the two of you. Joel stood frozen even as Jack reached for him, whining slightly. 

It was Ellie who broke the awkward silence, walking down the stairs in the fluffy robe you left for her. “You gonna take the kid, or what? He’s not contagious.” 

You were hesitant to let Jack go but after he let out an angry wail, you put him down and watched as he walked over to Joel and reached for him, making a grabby motion with his tiny fists, the universal pick me up signal from a child. The man awkwardly picked him up and you immediately saw the similarities between the two. You always thought he looked like Joel but looking at the two of them together, a paternity test wouldn’t be needed.

“Woah,” Ellie said, taking Jack’s hand when he reached towards her, “he looks just like you.” 

You ignored the insinuating tone in her words, opting to watch the interaction between the two boys. Joel’s sole attention was now on the toddler in his arms. His whole body softened when Jack rested his head on his chest and you suddenly felt a rush of emotions. Shoving the clothes in Ellie’s arms, you took Jack from Joel and fled out the door, ignoing both voices calling out to you. You didn’t stop running until you were in your own house and rushed to put Jack to bed before going to your own room. Not bothering to change, you crawled under the covers and tried to hold back the sobs threatening to escape you. 

You had spent the last five years trying to get over the heartbreak Joel Miller caused you and suddenly the man himself showed up and brought back evey single feeling you had for him.

And you hated him for it.

Sherlock and Co Flash Bang Event Explainer

CONTENTS OF THIS INFORMATIONAL PRESENTATION

Here’s what you’ll find in this presentation: 1. What is a Flash Bang Event? Flash Bangs are a type of mini Big Bang event with short turnaround times. What is a Big Bang? A Big Bang event is a collaborative creative event where artists and writers are paired together to create a piece of fiction and artwork based on that fiction. A Flash Bang is the same thing but instead of a long event you have just a week or two to create everything with your partner. 2. What are the requirements for participating? >You must be old enough to access the platforms where the event is hosted: Tumblr and Discord >You must be willing to write a minimum of 1000 words of fanfiction or draw a minimum of one fully lined piece of artwork. 3. What is the event timeline? April 1st-7th - Signups are available April 8-12th - Signups are closed and matches assigned April 13-26th - You and your partner have two weeks to create something April 30th - Everything is posted here over the course of the day. 4. Where can I sign up? Signups will be through Google Forms. The link will be available in a post on tumblr and linked on the pinned post here. You can also reach out to me (@eardefenders) for the link. 5. Common Questions A. What if I sign up and can’t participate? Let me know as soon as possible so we can reassign your partner. Things happen. It’s okay.

B. What if I can’t write/draw? No requirement for skill. This is for fun. Trust me, if you want to participate, you can write and you can draw. Just pick one and have a blast. :)

C. What if we get more artists then writers or vice versa? This is actually a very common scenario with these types of events and during signup you will have the option of choosing to be open to multiple partners or to do either writing/art so we can make matches, as necessary.

D. What if I have another question not listed here? You can either submit an ask on the blog or reach out to me @eardefenders on either tumblr or Discord.

The exchange is open to every segment of MCYTBLR! We have over 250 people signed up! The odds that I can match you to another person who likes the same block people as you is VERY high at this point.

Do you just want Tinarose art? You can request that, and 34 other people are offering it! Are you a great fan of Hypnotized? I have 47 people who signed up offering to create around him. Is your special focus BigB in life series? I happen to have 86 people who want to create for BigB. Your focus is the JaidenAnimations family on QSMP? 56 people have signed up to create for Bobby, and both Roier and Jaiden have higher numbers. Come! Welcome! I will do my best to match you!

We have detailed signups for DSMP, Hermicraft, Empires, Traffic, OSMP, Lifesteal, and QSMP, and we have 34 smaller fandoms you can opt into as well. We can't absolutely promise to match on any of the smaller fandoms, but the benefit of being such a big exchange is that it does becomes possible to match on rarer matches, and we do match with smallest-fandoms-first, prioritizing rarer matches, so it's a definite possibility!

Assignments are sent out by the 26th of November, and then you have one check-in before the posting week between the 24th of December and the 1st of January.

Okay, was anybody going to tell me that Evil Supply Co. is rebranding as @netherworldpost or was I supposed to read that in a meme myself?

Recent data has shown I need to do more work discussing this. So I'm making a new post to pin.

(To be clear: aside from this meme, we have no connection to Chris Fleming)

Evil Supply Co. began life as "hey where do villains and monsters shop for birthday cards?"

This was good fun. And will continue forward, it isn't changing.

Because we had "evil" in our name, from the first day we launched a lot of folks found us and wanted to discuss fictional horror, real world terrors, and real world true crime.

We deal exclusively with bumbling and silliness. We are spooky, never scary.

This rebranding is not a judgement or rebuke of taste, it is a realization "going forward, we need to be clearer."

Atticus Q. Redghost (hi) owned, operated, wrote, illustrated, and designed all the work for Evil Supply Co. The exact same for Netherworld Post.

I did a significant amount of client work (some RPG-based, some not) in addition to running ESC. I've closed almost of all of that down to build Netherworld Post going forward.

No one else owns any part of the company, prior or going forward.

My producer. She worked with me to build Evil Supply Co. in the background. Since a lot of business work has been done to shift away from client work, she began being more visible in the rebrand. Also she is hilarious. She makes for good public stories.

First off, what is a Secret Santa gift exchange?

A Secret Santa is a holiday gift exchange where participants create something for another person based on that person’s request. The fun of it is, once you know who you will be drawing for, you keep it a secret until you present it to them! And you will, in turn, receive a gift, but you won’t know from who until all the drawings are sent in.

Since this is a Clownblr (clown tumblr) event, all the requests and subsequent gifts must be clown-adjacent, but otherwise, you can request whatever you want, as long as it is SFW.

The timeline:

On November 25th, the signups will be closed.

On December 1st, you will receive a message, either through tumblr dms or the other means of contact you put in, informing you of who you are drawing for, and what their request is. You will then have until the posting dates to create their gift.

The posting period is December 25th 2023 - January 5th 2024. If you wish to post your drawing yourself on tumblr, you must tag the person the gift is for, as well as this blog ( @clownartmonth ) so that I can see it and reblog it. You can also send your drawing to me as a submission, or dm it to your recipient. If you choose to do the latter you must send me a dm informing me of it.

What I signed up, but find out I can’t participate or need more time?

That’s fine, life happens! Please inform me of it as soon as possible so that I can get a backup artist for your recipient’s request. You can also ask for an extension, within a reasonable time frame, which your recipient will be informed of.

General rules:

NSFW in not allowed, horror & gore is permitted only if your recipient explicitly asked for them.

You are not allowed to share your piece before the posting period (December 25th - January 5th)

This time, this event is limited to drawings (traditional or digital). Artists of all skill levels are welcomed, however you are expected to put in a minimum of effort into your piece. Remember, this is someone’s gift! You can see gift from the previous year here.

By the Numbers update!!

With just over a day left to sign up as a creator for Fandom Trumps Hate 2023, here's a quick roundup of all of the numbers:

We have 705 offers by 527 creators (I've had to update this three times while writing this post!). Of those, 97 are offering to work in ANY fandom! The rest have signed up offering fanworks in 273 fandoms, including 177 write-in fandoms! (To compare that with roughly the same time last year, as we approached 24 hours left to sign up for FTH2022 we had 680 offers from 525 creators in 257 fandoms including 153 write-ins … meaning we have 23 more offers in 16 more fandoms by the same number of creators for 2023 … SO FAR.)

A look at the offers, broken down by type (with last year's numbers in italics for comparison purposes) -

Nearly 65% of creators are opting to let their bidders choose which org to support with their donation. The orgs most often chosen by those who wish to direct donations to a particular nonprofit remain the Transgender Legal and Education Defense Fund, any/all abortion fund, Rainbow Railroad, and the Navajo Water Project. The orgs selected least often are The Appeal, Razom, and Violence Policy Center.

In our listed fandoms Good Omens has increased its lead and its lock on the top spot. MCU caught up with Sherlock and Teen Wolf for a brief 3-way tie for 4th place behind HP and K-pop, but has since gained an additional signup to claim that spot, leaving Sherlock and Teen Wolf tied for fifth ahead of Star Wars, Stranger things, SVSSS, The Untamed, and The Sandman.

A handful of signups could still shake things up here, or over in the unlisted fandoms, where the Young Royals lead has been cut in half … see the full list of all 177 write-in fandoms under the cut. Welcome (back) to the LarryAfterDark Fic Fest!

Where we'll have vampires, criminals, vigilantes... and anything under the moon! It’ll be up to you! Not everything needs to be nefarious. This is any story canvas that has a little black paint splatter, or maybe a character with a dark shadow they can't shake.

You can submit prompts here until October 11th! You can submit as many as you'd like, we'd love to hear your ideas!

Rules

✦ Must be 18 or older to participate ✦ No underage sexual content allowed (under 18) ✦ No descriptions of non-con ✦ Any triggering dark themes must be extensively tagged and labeled as contains dark themes ✦ Authors must have an AO3 account  ✦ Authors can write multiple prompts, but are limited to 2 per round ✦ The date someone signs up will not affect the date their fic is due, but they may change their chosen round as long as they contact us ✦ Authors can submit fics worked on outside of the fest as long as they submit the prompt and sign up for it ✦ Authors cannot use ai generated images or writing ✦ Prompt submissions and signups close the day the last round of fics are due, this allows people to submit fics they wrote outside of the fest, it does not extend the due date ✦ If people are bringing negativity to authors, readers, fan artists, betas, or the fest as a whole they will not be allowed to participate

DSMP Rare Pair Big Bang Info!

Hello everyone! I have officially created the timeline for this event, as well as decided some basic rules! More details will be coming over the next month, but these are the most important events!

General guidelines:

Authors will be expected to write a minimum of 5,000 words. Please keep the fic you're writing a secret, as sign ups will be anonymous!!

Artists will be expected to create at minimum one work for each fic they are teamed with.

For this current event, all DSMP ships are allowed except Dreamnotfound and ships that contain at least one minor and one adult. In the future we will narrow this down. A post giving more explanation will come later. (For those wondering why DNF is excluded, please see this post)

NSFW is allowed, however it must be properly tagged and kept out of SFW spaces.

Non-con and dub-con are NOT ALLOWED. Dark themes may be present, but they must be properly tagged.

QPRs are allowed but PLATONIC IS NOT

Event timeline: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AS THIS HAS CHANGED!!!!!

January 1 - Discord Opens. Authors begin writing

The discord will be opened for all potential participants! Also, this is when writers would ideally begin writing!

February 1 - Author Signups Open

A link to a signup sheet will be posted in the discord announcements channel. Authors should be at least halfway through writing their work. (Minimum word count is 5,000, but if you expect your work to be something like 7,000 you need to have written at least 3,500 to make sure you make it on time) WORKS SHOULD REMAIN ANONYMOUS!

February 7 - Author Signups Close

Unless signing up as a pinch author, no one will be accepted after 11:00pm CST

February 11 - Artist Signups Open

Artists will have a chance to look at a list of anonymous stories and will select three that they most want.

February 17 - Artist Signups Close

Unless signing up as a pinch artist, no one will be accepted after 11:00pm CST

February 20 - Teams Announced

A mod will reach out through DMs and let you know who your teammate is. Please make an effort to reach out as soon as you can and begin working together!

February 26 - The Vow of Silence Lifts!

Discussions of works can now be discussed outside of just your team!

March 22 - Posting Week Begins

Teams will have until the 30th to post all parts of their fics and art. All works with more than 5 chapters MUST be fully posted by April 6th
