"Hey YN!" Jake greets with a wave, sprinting toward you as he spots you seated on the porch steps. You respond with a smile, reciprocating the friendly gesture. When he reaches you, he comes to a halt and promptly takes a seat beside you.

"Hey Jake," you shiver slightly, rubbing your arms. He catches you, suddenly adopting a serious expression. You glance in his direction, finding him crossing his arms, which elicits a small chuckle from you. “Now what, Sim Jaeyun?”

“Okay, not you pulling out the government name!”

“Sorry…!” You smile, both knowing it was a playful tease, and he acknowledges it with a grin.

Jake playfully scolds, "Anyways, you should have worn something warmer, YN. Like seriously, just a long sleeve shirt in a weather like this?"

You chuckle, "I didn't expect it to be this cold, honestly. I was just out to get some fresh air.”

Without another word, he removes the sweater he’s wearing, and hands it over to you. “Here.”

“Huh?”

“Wear it,” he insists, still holding it out to you, patiently waiting for you to take it from his grasp. He shoots you a slightly confused expression, wondering about the source of your hesitation. “What? Want me to help put it on you or something?”

He grins instantly when you finally take it from him, though you still appear a bit hesitant. “Are you sure? You’re going to be cold, y'know.”

“You’ve been out here longer than me. I can deal with it for a bit.”

You ease into the sweater, still hesitant. "Are you sure about this, Jake?"

“Yeah, I’m sure. You can borrow all my stuff for all I care,” he responds nonchalantly.

“Oh well… thank you for the sweater, Jake,” you hum, taking in the light, sweet cologne that lingers on his beige sweater. As you glance at your side, you make eye contact with Jake, surprised to find him still looking at you. “Um… what are you looking at?”

“It’s nothing—it looks better on you than it ever could on me,” he smiles.

Curiosity piqued, you inquired, "What makes you say that?" Jake grins, his eyes holding a playful sparkle. "Because I like you, YN."

Because I like you, YN.

How you wished you could go back to December 3rd 2022 just to hear those words once more.

In that moment, you wished you could express everything you feel. To tell him how much you like him — his smile, his presence, his jokes — to lay bare the evidence of your affection, to confess that what you feel goes beyond mere liking; it's love.

Sighing, you snap out of your thoughts, glancing at your home screen—December 3rd, 2023. You can't help but wonder if he would give you his sweater again, though the chances seem unlikely. “YN!” a familiar voice calls out, and as you turn around, there's Jake, wearing the same smile and surprisingly, the same sweater from that memorable day. It feels like deja vu, a moment echoing the past.

“Hey Jake,” you greet, a smile playing on your lips. In your mind, you wonder what he might ask of you this time, a curiosity tinged with a hint of anticipation. How you wished you could experience that day once more.

This scenario feels too familiar, and you can't help but grin at his concern, secretly hoping for a repeat of the sweater gesture. "Well, you know, I didn’t think it would be that cold again," you say, stealing a glance at his familiar beige sweater.

He catches your gaze, a mischievous smile forming. "Speaking of which, do you think I look good—" he asks, pointing to his sweater.

Caught off guard, you blurt out, "I’ll take—" without thinking, momentarily forgetting your initial expectation of getting the sweater. “Wait, what?”

“Huh?” he says, clearly confused.

“Nevermind…what were you saying?” you awkwardly say, realizing you got ahead of yourself.

“I was asking if I look good 'cause… you know, I wanna impress her.”

Oh.

You should’ve known.

“Oh—yeah, yeah. You look great,” you respond, a hint of bitterness coloring your words.

"Thanks," Jake grins, seemingly satisfied with your response. Just then, he spots someone in the distance and without much explanation, he hurries off.

Confused, you follow his gaze and realize he's approaching another person, a girl who was wearing the same amount of layers you had that night. She was pretty, you had to admit.

Observing from a distance, you witness Jake taking off the sweater and handing it over to her. It feels like a familiar scene, as if you're reliving the same moment from a different perspective.

A pang of self-realization hits you. There's no right to be jealous; after all, it was your opportunity to seize, and it slipped away before you could even grasp it. Regret settles in as you reflect on the missed chance, contemplating the unspoken feelings you've harbored for Jake.

If Jake only knew how much you loved him.

Ok so hear me out folks.....

I’ve been hearing word on the street that “Hey, Encanto is dead” or “Encanto is soooooooo last year” or “Well, I think the Encanto craze is all over because there’s no news of a sequel or series”.

But you know what? So many more achievements have been unlocked by the Madrigal family in the past few weeks. Here are some of them:

- Encanto bagged three Grammy awards including Best Compilation for Visual Media, Best Film Score and Best Song for Visual Media (for Bruno)

- Nielsen revealed that Encanto was among the most played streaming movie or TV show in the United States for all of 2022

- A whole new sequence for “Dos Orugitas” was added at Disneyland’s new nighttime spectacular “Wonderous Journeys” as part of their celebration of Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder

- The Encanto community just concluded its first ever “Big Bang” uniting artists and fanfic writers in more amazing original stories based on the Madrigals

- Gameloft confirmed that Mirabel is coming to Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, the Disneyfied version of Animal Crossing or the Sims (I hear it is such a cool life sim game), and the Encanto realm will be unlocked by all users on February 16th, meaning those who have Dreamlight Valley can now experience Encanto!

And all of these events happened in a span of a few weeks????? It is such a big deal for Encanto fans and brainrotters but there is a part of me that feels very boggled over the speed of these events exactly a year since Encanto had exploded.......

If these can be indicators for something, then I have to safely say that ENCANTO IS NOT DEAD! The magic and beauty of Encanto will continue to touch and inspire us to radiate love and express our own special gifts. We will continue to make and tell stories about the wonderful Madrigals even if a sequel or Disney+ series are still miles and miles away. Everywhere I look, I see Encanto. Fanarts and OCs populate my Instagram. I see even more Encanto fanmade stuff on Tumblr. And my Twitter has also been bombarded by Encanto headcanons and whatnot........

These are signs that Encanto will never fade out into black, we fans will be there to make the universe better and better! After all, it’s Disney’s biggest hit of the 21st century for one simple reason: We don’t just watch Encanto, we FEEL IT.

The French Revolution from children's perspective - Some historical background

My current plotline is rather strictly dictated by economic considerations: I'm trying to show the French Revolution with the limited cast of a Sims-story. So it was only logic to take the children's perspective, who are kept away from the mass-riots. Now I don't actually know about direct sources about the French Revolution from children's perspective. It would be a great research-topic, but I don't speak enough French for that.

However, I had some great inspo in my PhD project. These are some more works of Christoph von Schmid, whose story The Mute Child I adapted as an autumn-special 2022. He was a catholic priest in rural Germany during the 1790s and when he started writing for children from 1810 onwards, he made the fate of French refugee children one of his main subjects.

I actually researched about that topic before: German priests played a central role in helping French refugees. Lots of them were clergy themselves, and then the village priest was often the only person who spoke any French at all. I do know sources from the clergy's perspective, and some of them sounded really traumatizing.

Schmid's stories are all centred around religion and morality. And he knows better than to confront his young audience with anything downright cruel. In the end, the lost child is always reunited with their family, thanks to their faith and good deeds. On one level, the Revolution provided a perfect background for this, because in Biedermeier times it was much rarer for upper- and middle-class children to get lost. On another level - although Schmid rubs this in comparatively little - there's also the subtle message that trying to abolish monarchy will have dire consequences.

In Der Kanarienvogel (The Canary Bird) a family gets separated on their flight. Mother and son end up in Switzerland, father and daughter in Germany, each supposing the other group to be dead. They find each other again because the son teaches the father's self-composed gospel song to a canary bird. The bird gets stolen and sold in Germany where the father and daughter recognize the song.

Ludwig der kleine Auswanderer (Louis the Little Emigrant) is set in a German village where a group of French aristocrats passes through in great haste. They accidentally leave little Louis behind, who gets adopted by a family and tutored by the village-priest. Some villagers are rather xenophobic, and there's a legal squabble over some gold-coins sewn into Louis' jacket. Later he makes himself useful, as war breaks out and there's an injured French soldier to be nursed. Louis, being French can translate for him. In the end Louis' mother finds him again, through hearing about the lawsuit. Everyone gets rewarded or punished for their behaviour.

I also drew some inspiration from Die Himbeeren (The Raspberries), but this doesn't have a good picture to show and may be the most spoilery of the three plots...

A completely different point is that in my B.A. years I worked for a Jewish museum and helped with research about Jewish children fleeing to Britain. From the British perspective, the Revolution- and Napoleonic wars are often compared to the Second World War, one of the points being the arrival of refugees. Although these were different historical situations, I wanted to show some of the trauma that came with public order turning against one, losing ones home and making a fresh start in a foreign country in wartime. I think that might have been similar to what the French children felt.

n.4 - Galvanize by The Chemical Brothers

I have been listening to this song for more than 15 years (I was born in 95). I was introduced to the song by a friend who was like a big brother. One of my all time favourite songs, never tire of listening it and always go back to listen when I'm in the mood.

I have looked high and low to figure out what they mean when they say "it's time to Galvanize" I still don't get it but love it all the same.

Easily one of the songs I've listened to the most in 2022. It's like it says, Moonbound. Listening to this song just takes me out of my body into deep thoughts and I love it. It's like there is a promised land of happiness in the neon light and synthwave. This song inspired a whole playlist dedicated to similar songs as I realized how much I love synthwave, EDM and Melodic House. Here is the link, in case if anyone likes synthwave. I know there aren't many of us out there.

no.2 - Tali by Jack Wall

I play a lot of games along with Sims and Mass Effect is easily the one I love the most out of all. If there are any Mass Effect nerds out there who reads this, they'll know when this song plays. It's when you go to help one of your mates, named Tali, who's in trouble. I died so many times when I did that mission. So, so many times when I just couldn't figure out which route to take on the battlefield. All that time this song was playing but it was the most fun I had even though I died countless times.

no.1 - Sunrise Prelude by Daft Punk

I know that this film, when it came out in 2010 (I believe) wasn't the best received films. A quick look at some reviews in Youtube will tell you that is not the case anymore. It was one of the first films which used the de-aging technology which was mind blowing to me back then. The graphics, music, story, the neon design everything about it I was in love with.

There are no words to describe how happy watching that film makes me. I watched it over and over again, late at nights, whenever I was alone for 13 years now. This goes for the music album as well. A lot of young people knows, or heard about Daft Punk thanks to their collabs but to me, songs for this film and this whole album is their masterpiece. These days, the album is my go to when I am out jogging. I re-live the film every time I'm out there and I've pavloved myself further with the endorphin of jogging mixing with the music so I become happier when I listen to it.

This song comes up when Sam and Quorra are looking into what Quorra imagines to be the sunrise. Someone who looks out into sunsets and general horizons often when brooding, the moment just speaks to me in my soul.

This is my playlist for the album in order of appearance in the film. I doubt I'll find another nerd who loves the movie as much as I do but just in case.

I doubt many people will read this long ass post but for those who did thank you! I know you don't recognise most of these and it's okay. Music is the most personal thing anyone can listen to imo. No one will ever feel the way I feel when listening to these and I won't be able to do the same for others, and that's okay. I enjoyed writing a little homage to some of my favourites.

~31/10/2022~ It was a good day in many ways - finished writing email to old therapist and set it first thing in the morning - C replied straight away outlining her intention reply by the end of the day and apologising for what happened before - not replying at all. While H came in and cleaned I replied to an email from uni giving my ‘official’ reason for leaving. Once H was finished we headed down to Saltdean for a walk by the sea and a stop at the cafe for hot chocolate and cheesy chips - it started out really sunny, then clouded over so I had to borrow H’s cardigan for the walk back to the car! I felt very wiped out when I got home - logged on for the first of an ND peer support group for work, but only me and the facilitator turned up, so we had a bit of a chat then left. I played sims for the rest of the afternoon as was so wiped out. C emailed me back as promised - it was actually a really lovely and helpful email 🤍 - it made our heart happy but also made us miss her now we’re not feeling quite as bitter about the therapy situation. There was a lot to digest - already read it over twice, and think it will be helpful to go back to again. Had left over Indian takeaway for dinner, and while it was lovely, was perhaps a little too much for my body to handle :/ Went to rock choir in the evening - we were learning a Christmas song - which always feels odd so early, especially when there were trick or treaters outside on the street - we always have to rehearse them early ready for Christmas gigs. March, 2022 – Sim Lakia is sending strong vibe through the power of his lyrics. The words in the song Villains, is encouraging all people to show up and step up their hustle at all times. The force in the message is to just keep moving forward until they get away from the trenches.

Sim Lakia is a 24-year old from Portland, Maine and is the owner of Lakia Studios where he produces all his tracks. He is also the manager of Leo Legends Entertainment, a music group / talent management that manages a group of hip-hop artists based out of Maine. Among his notable works include Made It Out from Nightmare on Taft Avenue produced and released in 2021, Leo Season and Operate from In Reality, both produced and released at the same year.

Since 2019, Sim Lakia has been inspiring listeners with his original song writing and rhythmic content. Sim Lakia is quickly rising ranks as one of Maine’s most formidable and emerging name in the HipHop genre. WOOHOO - Simoleon (2022). On her debut album, South Side Bridge rapper Simoleon makes it clear that she's not afraid to speak her mind. After 2 mixtapes and a viral single, she signed to Plumbob Productions and started working with producer Sul Ekko, a risky move according to many. Although he is now the most sought after producer in the genre, he was not really known for working with rappers before Simoleon approached him. "WOOHOO" was an ambitious project, including 23 tracks, with features from industry legends like Quay Acapella and FREEZR. However, the album was an instant number one and spawned multiple social media trends. On songs like "CC" She raps: "Body so tea, they think it's sliders." & "I haven't rocked maxis since a toddler." And on the title track "WOOHOO," She playfully muses on her past lovers, mentioning Sims like Destiny Cline and disgraced comic Johnny Zest by name. In the controversial music video, she is seen dancing in what appears to be a bed, wearing a corset made from repurposed WooHoo toys and surrounded by multicolored guns. The outfit she wears in the video inspired the viral "Tailored Toys" trend, where participants cut up pieces of Woohoo toys and made them into gowns, headpieces, bags, etc. She was chosen as the QI Magazine star of the year for 2022. However, following a Tweeter scandal started over some uncertainty pertaining to her racial & ethnic background, she was cancelled and dropped by Plumbob Productions. She recently released an EP titled "PAYWALL" in 2023 to mixed reactions.
