I do have a bunch of posts ready to go in the queue, but then today I got a big job which took most of my time. The rest of my time went to my kiddos, and that’s what this post is about.

They’ve both gotten into playing instruments recently, and between their dad and I, we can reasonably teach them fundamentals of many different instruments. Anyway, tonight the 11 year old was messing around on keyboard and asked me to teach him some stuff and play with him, and at one point I started playing a bit of “Moonlight Sonata.” And he said: “Wow, that’s beautiful. But also sad? It sorta makes me want to cry, but in a good way?” And that made me want to cry because it’s like yes, my little dude, welcome to how I feel all of the time.

random ass memory: the Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch. saw them advertised in various magazines for YEARS and as a kid very into the idea of secrets i was hooked on concept alone. eventually i did read the first book and it was great but none of the others.

i'm way out of the target demographic now but i sorta want to check em out again, if for nothing but nostalgia. i don't even remember the story but it'd be nice to get closure on that too

Shoutout to third movements of sonatas.

Like you always have your moderately paced, quarter note dotted sixteenth rhythm, somewhat melodic, really bland first movement,

and then your agonizingly slow minor second movement that sounds whiny without piano accompaniment, but then the third movement is just

notes! and fast! and just a lot of sixteenths that sound nice together and once your fingers memorize it you can play it at double speed and its just so fun!

The Utopians are a people thriving by the sound of music and their life and city are driven by the voice of their Diva, Euphonia. Sonata is Euphonia's little sister. Her voice isn't as strong and she doesn't sing like her sister does, but she loves writing poems and songs - which develop magical properties thanks to her imagination.

When the Snake corrupts life among the Utopians and her sister is suffering, Sonata teams up with the Little Prince to help and after the Snake is defeated, she joins him on his journey through space.

I'm reading through Eternally Yours and I need a moment to silently scream about Kalynn Bayron's short story HELLO. It's so dark, so evil, but SO DELICIOUS?!

I'm 100% down for villains. the bad guys. the protagonists can take a moment and chill because antagonists.

I don't want to be the damsel the prince rescues, I want to be the girl who flips off the prince to run away with the devil. Villains need love too!!

I need a fic where the good guy's saying "I can fix him" but ends up becoming a bad guy too cause love.

#we should also talk some more about Beethoven in class tomorrow :) giving a look at the last 5 sonatas <3 #ah I should also start pondering what to do with this kid I teach to. It looks like he enjoys improvisation and like #musical skills not directly related to the piano playing itself. More like 'the piano as a mean to an end (imitating/doing stuff)' #I think he could benefit from getting a bit more into theory maybe? But finding a way to work on his piano skills would be good too #In a 'increase the stuff you can do' kinda way. Idk I should discuss it with my teacher #my post

Hot take today from the niche world of advanced clarinet solo repertoire... I honestly think it's totally fine for high school students to play the Mozart Concerto- it's technically challenging while still being recognizably melodic- but NO ONE under the age of 20 should be allowed to play either of the Brahms Sonatas. You just don't have the emotional maturity for those when you're in high school.
