More things I hate about modern literature because today is a bad day and I need to be a dick online to feel better:

How much sex there is in everything

And again I am not a prude, erotica has existed for decades and it's okay but every popular YA or adventure book nowadays is a bad erotica with some low stakes adventure in the background

And somehow they are able to be both bad porn and bad adventure

And also people will promote those books as " yes the plot kinda sucks but there's good sex scenes"

The word Mary sue

The misuse of the word Mary sue

Any attempt to make a "LOTR inspired" book made by a man

Because usually the things that made LOTR good go just over the authors head and we end with basically a vin diesel movie set in the middle ages

This is not just about modern literature but books about or set in horrible moments for a oppressed minority(like holocaust or slavery) written by people who aren't part of said minority

The harry Potter/Percy Jacksonification of children's literature

The magical choose one trope being taken to a magical world did irremediable damage to children's literature

The mean girl trope

Books set in fictional middle ages but the protagonist go to balls in fashion show modern runaway style dresses

You know the tacky Pinterest glittery showing shoulders back and leg

Those official arts of the same exactly white women and the same white guy in slightly different clothes with the same 2016 style eyebrows and the sharp jawline and the nothing expression

Characters being described as "golden skin" so depending if the author needs some representation points they can be interpreted as people of color but if no one says nothing they stay as just tan white

Comparing dark skin color to any food

How many authors try to make at the same time "this is brainless wish fulfilment fantasy about being desired by a hot dominating guy" and " this is a profound take about the horrors of abuse"

Usually by having the second love interest to abuse the protag

In the end the message that stays is any abuse is forgivable if the abuser is hot enough

The "I'm skinny but not hot super model skinny I am ugly skinny my bones show because of malnourishment"

"yet I don't feel any other effect of starvation like being weak and I can carry five times my body weight in whatever animal the author needs me to hunt in the beginning of the book because making me a farmer wouldn't be cool"

Sorry for having such an unsympathetic opinion on Jason's character but also how are you going to say he wants to protect kids and then turn a blind eye to the multiple child characters he's brutally attacked because he's just ANGRY. He beats up Tim multiple times bc hes upset abt being there being another robin? He literally tries to kill Mia and Damian (multiple times even). He's ok blowing up a bunch of kids in that last arc of Robin'93.

Agent Phoenix keeping close with Roxana after the events of 3 is a very cute thought when considering that Phoenix would be likely to help her get her last surviving robot back. But it becomes an increasingly funnier thought when considering how often Phoenix and Roxana would probably be caught by a silly robot making himself at home when the two are trying to be affectionate.

YES!!! my god anon I was just literally thinking of writing something where Phoenix brings Right with them in a road trip to search for Prism and reunite them...

Also, yes, I 1000% agree with the silly robot shenanigans! I don't know how Right would react to that...not that he doesn't trust Phoenix, but more so that Prism having company (that wasn't her coworkers) is a rare sight to him. It's always been her and the robots since they gained sentience, and to see her just........ Content and relieved, with a trustworthy companion.. I think Right would be alright with that! Right would be more incredulous of the fact that Prism is getting cuddly with the agent they just tried to kill recently. Strange............... but they turned out to be really nice, so it's ok :3

...All that said, Right barging in the two being kissy-kissy and snuggly would cause some real funny reactions...mostly from Phoenix, who'd get flustered real quickly LMAO I think Prism would take the time to explain all this to her lil robit...in which Right would absolutely tease Phoenix (and Prism, to a lesser extent) about all that.

Are there any other Clone stans out there who hate the PT era Jedi Order? It seems like half the fandom sees it as this fantastic organization and I just…can’t relate.

The Clones’ story really resonates with me as a disabled viewer (I might explain why in another post), and the way that the Jedi failed them upsets me on a visceral level.

i promise u the IRS is not out to get you as badly as u’ve been told ur entire life. the IRS does not in fact magically know the exact amount of money that every one of the 330 million citizens of the United States owes every year while accounting for local tax laws and if u happen to get something wrong on accident they arent going to send u to jail, just send u a notice saying ‘hey we checked the math and u actually owe us this much’. literally unless you are very obviously intentionally trying to get out of paying thousands of dollars in taxes they legally cant give you more than a polite correction. if u realized u messed up you can send an amendment with ur correction. they get it. people make mistakes and taxes are convoluted.

i know its a real big shocker but u probably shouldnt believe everything u hear from big wealthy capitalists about how the ppl in charge of taxes are only there 2 drain all the money u have and any slight error will ruin ur life when generally by ‘slight error’ they mean ‘they fined me when i tried to write off my golden swimming pool in my penthouse as a business expense’. not to say that the irs can do no wrong but unless ur just blatantly trying to get out of paying ur taxes u probably dont have to worry about getting fined or sent to prison if u accidentally fill in a few boxes wrong on ur tax returns

I read one of your reblogs about correcting WWX is not a binge drinker, which push forward more viewers to see this absurd meta about whump Laozu drowning in sorrow with alcohol. But then I read the Poster latest comment about getting hate because they made a little mistake, whereas I did not see any reblogs or replies using rude or abusive words at all.

What I want to say is that, a lot of fans did this. Wrongly spreading their own interpretation and crying pitifully when they're corrected, saying "I was just s little bit wrong, why did I get hate?" Garnering sympathy. But their so called meta has actually spread more false information and brainwash other source-ignorant fans.

If they don't want to get strictly corrected, then just don't post anything without understanding the entire picture. It's just fiction so it doesn't do any harm. But this kind of behavior of speculating without facts-checking will be detrimental to real people. And yet they think getting corrected for their behavior as getting hate instead??

I mean, I don’t think speculating without first fact-checking is a good or bad thing. We all do it every now and then, as evidenced by how I spent last week speculating and was wrong as hell about half my initial responses 🤣 I’m not fact-checking every stray thought I have about any novel over 500-pages long, and I’m not expecting others to either.

The problem is that being wrong is embarrassing to a lot of people—that wrong being publicly commented on even more embarrassing—and instead of just taking it on the chin and giving themself grace, some people’s automatic reaction is to minimize their embarrassment by making others out to be more wrong (“Yeah I was wrong about this, but you harassed me so that’s worse.”) The more popular the post being corrected, the more likely I’ve found it is that the op will react negatively to being told they are wrong, which is why personally I feel less hesitant interacting in disagreement to smaller posts. Once people realize it’s not a crime to be wrong about a book detail, we can have less stressful interactions in disagreement.

bwugh. cannot tell if i like the uty no mercy route or not. (spoilers ahead, obviously)

i REALLY like certain aspects of it. i like martlets character progression in the route a lot, especially. the fact that she mentions being on lab duty originally in basically every route makes her knowing about the experiments alphys does come naturally and work well. i like her fight, i like that shes the only monster in the game who can flee from you.

i also like. a solid most of clovers progression. the fight with axis being, learning that he killed a child? the instant rage-fueled power boost is very good. i think it works super well for a character whos meant to represent 'justice'. albeit a twisted kind of justice, here.

the parts it falls short are the other stuff near the end, i think. with flowey and asgore especially. obviously the ending is the least 'canon' of them all. its the only one where clover survives. my assumption is that flowey resets after it and didnt technically die, but thats like... eh.

the idea is that clovers rationalizing their killing of the king as just. which makes sense in context, but the fact that it happens is what gets me. i think id have less of an issue with the impact of the ending if they failed. like with the 'flawed pacifist' ending (killing ceroba at the end of the route), they go on and cannot beat asgore.

maybe he strikes first. they dont even get the chance. maybe flowey pops back up and holds them down so he can finish the job. i do like clover gaining the ability to save on their own near the end of the route! i think itd work well if that resulted in them reloading repeatedly, trying and failing to out speed the king of monsters.

in that way, they die for the good of all monsters. isnt that just?

I won't shame anyone for romancing Emperor, live your truth and do whatever you can with his sexless squid body to your heart's content, but I would fervently argue against the idea that he actually loves the Avatar character. He's like Ascended Astarion in that all his affection and concern are heavily conditional, specifically on you being subservient and cooperative. He demands you trust him for your own good, but doesn't trust you. He lies to you repeatedly, then lies about lying to you, and says that his lying is your fault actually because it's the only way to make you understand, or that he literally can't help it because it's his nature and you can't judge him for that. He won't listen or compromise if it means him not holding absolute control over your safety and autonomy, he's willing to betray all the things he claims to believe in at a moment's notice, and it's not even the first time he's done it.
