So one thing I thought about after the finale was how Starfleet revealed a Protostar-class ship, but by the 32nd century, during Seasons 3 and 4 of Discovery, there were none. After the Burn, as long as they weren’t affected, a ship with a protodrive would have been really helpful to the Federation. So I have 3 theories as to what happened to the Protostar-class ships between the events of Prodigy and the events of the last two seasons of Discovery:

1) Starfleet decided to retire them/not make them anymore. They are awfully dangerous if the protostars breach containment, after all. They could have easily decided to retire them after a few catastrophic incidents

2) The Protostar-class ships were affected by the Burn somehow and exploded with the rest of Starfleet’s dilithium-powered ships

3) After the Burn, the Protostar-class ships did survive but then in the 100 years in between the Burn and the Discovery arriving in the future something happened to them that made them unusable or they went supernova and Starfleet didn’t have the resources to make another one

I just -- I have an aversion for blue filters, I don't know why but aesthetically, they put me off.

Also the difference from Discovery season 1:

To season 4:

The warm tones are gone, it's just cold light and, no random extras.

On one hand, it's truly great they're still implementing Covid protocols, on the other hand, it just adds to the cold feeling the season 4 hallway gives off.

There also used to be color contrasts in the hallway.

I think, in general industry-wide, something happened with color grading like how somehow cinematographers suddenly forgot how to light night/dark scenes.

I genuinely love Adira and Gray Tal.

I love them together. I love the way they gently and lovingly push each other out of their comfort zones. I love how Adira never gave up on Gray during his incorporation into his body. I love how they're so supportive of his dream to become a Guardian despite the physical distance that would cause. Gray uses fewer words, but he is so happy that Adira has found a place in Starfleet. He adjusts their uniform in the morning and pins on their combadge in such a sweet display of love and care. He doesn't have to tell them that he loves them, all the time; his actions say as much as his words do.

And I love them separately. I love how Adira is shown adjusting to their new connection with the Tal symbiote. I love the way they interact with and use their newly accessible knowledge, and how the writers show that being the smartest person in the room (or perceiving yourself to be) isn't always a good thing, especially at a younger age. I love the way they came out to Stamets. It was gradual and natural. He had established himself as a father figure rather than a commanding officer, and so Adira trusted him. I love how Gray reacted to his new body. I love the little exchange about the mole on his hand and remaking his body the way he wants, and I love how ready he is to do what Gray wants with his body for him. I love how, when Gray wakes up, he flattens both his forearms against his chest instead of the typical usage of only his hands. Maybe it's just my transmasc projection, but it's almost like he's checking to make sure everything is as flat and right as he remembers. It's such a small detail -- and again, it might just be me -- but it's a lovely bit of representation of trans joy.

I haven't finished season 4 yet, if this changes please don't tell me, I want to be happy with these stupid kids for as long as possible

idk if we’re still posting about star trek: discovery (which has the two unfortunate abbreviations “STD” and “disco”) but i’m watching it now for the first time. whatever about the show as a whole but Gray’s character was one of the first times i felt seen in my specific experience as a trans guy. they mention his transition when narratively appropriate, he’s gender nonconforming as fuck, he’s treated with respect and normality while not downplaying the difficult aspects of transition, he has a cute little t4t relationship with Adira, i’m just happy to see it. i never realized what it meant to see yourself reflected in media on purpose.
