According to some spoilers, in the spin-off they will pretend that season 5 to 8 never happened. HOW ARE THEY GOING TO DO THAT? WE JUST WANTED THEM TO IGNORE SEASON 8. This is so disrespectful to true T7S fans. Writers don't give a shit.
Since Leia is 14 and Jay is 15, it's a bit unlikely, but it's entirely possible. I see T9S as an AU that is more a deviation from early season 8, where season 8's showrunners got what they truly wanted; a Jackie and Kelso engagement and endgame, if they weren't held back by Wilmer's alleged demands.
But either way, they're definitely going to write off Jackie and Hyde, and Betsy and Brooke, by not mentioning them at all (at the most, they'll simply mention that Hyde's in prison or something). Because it goes against the miserable, on-off Jackie and Kelso relationship narrative. I mean, at least they recognize that Jackie and Kelso are terrible for each other, but in a roundabout, fucked up way. By having them be miserable.
And plus, it's apparent that the gang isn't really being in touch at all, to the point where Jay and Leia don't know each other and Red and Kitty don't know who Jay is. So, real happy ending (note the sarcasm), for the sake of a "Jay's a Kelso?" joke.
I mean, some drifting is understandable and realistic, but holy crap. That takes it to the next level, of the Turners and the writers not giving a shit. I don't think I can say the same for Kurtwood and Debra, but I think they're dictating a lot of the Red/Kitty stuff, not the overarching plotlines and the overall miserable universe. Which a loving, devoted Red and Kitty have been awkwardly plopped into (just like season 8, but worse).
If the Turners and the writers gave a little bit of a shit about logistical clarity and in-character cohesion, T9S would take place in 98-99. E/D and J/H's daughters (and E/D's daughter wouldn't be named Leia, and Eric would be a history teacher/general Mr. Feeny type) would spend the summer at Red and Kitty's. As they meet new friends, and possibly lovers, in Point Place. With annoying younger siblings gunking up the works (like Matt McGuire), and with a new gang that only faintly parallels the old, without being lazy and downright copying. Then, I would be legitimately excited. But as it stands, I wholeheartedly agree. It's going to be a shitshow.
PS: Am I describing my verse here? Yes, of course. And to me? It's now officially canon. 🥳

Cervical Spine (Lateral View)
Alignment:
Checking Specific Lines
Anterior Spinal Line
Posterior Spinal Line
Spinolaminar Line
These lines should have a smooth curvature. Spinal cord lies between posterior spinal line and spinolaminar line.
Assess the interval between C1 - C2 space.
Normal C1 - C2 Space:
< 3mm in adults
< 5mm in children
Body:
Check the height of vertebrae bodies (C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7). Make sure each vertebrae body corresponds to its spinous process.
Cortical Outlines:
Trace cortical outline of each vertebrae for any fracture.
Disk Spaces:
The intervertebral disk space should be more or less of same height.
Edges/Soft Tissues:
Evaluate the thickness of soft tissues anterior to the vertebral bodies.
Prevertebral Soft Tissue Thickness:
C3: <7mm
C6: <22mm in adults / <14mm in children under age 15
Increased tissue thickness may be related to hematoma or infection.
Cervical Spine (AP View)
Alignment:
The lateral edges of vertebrae body should form continuous parallel lines. The spinous process should be spaced out evenly and should form a straight line.
Body:
Check the height of vertebra bodies (C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7)
Cortical Outlines:
Trace the cortical outline of each vertebra for any fracture.
Disk Spaces:
The intervertebral disk spaces should be more or less of same height.
Edges/Soft Tissues:
Assess the soft tissues of the neck for any emphysema, lungs for any pneumothorax, mass or rib fractures.
Cervical Spine (Odontoid View [Open Mouth])
Alignment:
Lateral process should be aligned in the same plane. The space between the lateral mass of C7/seven(?) and odontoid process should be equal. The lateral aspects of lateral masses should have less than 1mm of malalignment.
Body & Cortical Outline:
Identify and trace entire C2 vertebra. It is difficult to assess C2 - C3 space in this view.
Edges/Soft Tissue:
Assess for any obvious fracture in the mandible.
Thoracic Spine

Alignment:
Assess the anterior spinal line and posterior spinal line.
They should form small curvature.
Bodies:
Trace each vertebra body for any height loss.

The Promise Ring & Kids In America
My thing about the J/L and E/D breakups is that I see both sides.
J: We're gonna be apart for nine months. Long distance relationships are hard. I don't want to put us through that.
L: So that's it? We're not even gonna try?
Jay is understandably scared of long distance and knows there’s a chance they won’t make it so instead he just takes the easy way out. But in the end, thanks to Kitty, he realizes that he won’t know what’ll happen unless they try. That if he just gave up, he’ll just end up wondering what could’ve been. And honestly, that’s a really shitty feeling.
Leia, on the other hand, thinks it’ll work if they just gave it a try. That being in love is enough. Her dialogue with Nate just proves that belief:
L: Well, thanks for telling me all this, Nate. It's nice to know there's another hopeless romantic out there.
N (chuckles): Yeah. I mean, what's more powerful than love? Maybe lightning. But that's it.
L: Right. If two people are meant to be, then they can survive anything.
Neither pov is wrong. Jay and Leia both have different views on their relationship and that’s fine. Leia’s reaction when finding out about Jay wanting to break up is valid. Like just a few minutes ago, they were all happy and then the news just springs out.
Similar to Jay, Donna knows there’s a chance that Eric may not be in her future. And her doubts are understandable, because they’re only teenagers. They don’t know what’ll happen in the end. There might be a chance that they might not be together in the end. And she sees having that belief as a possible stepping stone to failure.
Donna: I don't know…not always…I mean, it's not like there's anyone else, but, sometimes I'm…by myself. I mean, all I mean is, I don't know! Neither of us does! And this ring is just a stupid high school promise. If we're meant to be together, then…we'll end up together!
And like Leia, Eric believes they’ll be able to make it in the end. That if they stay together and work hard at their relationship, they will stay together.
Eric: No! The way we end up together is by saying we'll be together and then…being together!
Donna: Eric, come on! We're together now! Isn't that enough?
Eric: No! I mean….I mean, Damn, Donna! If you can see a future for yourself without me, and that doesn't, like, break your heart, then, I, we're not doing what I thought we were doing here. And you know what? Maybe we shouldn't be together at all.
Eric’s hurt is completely understandable. Someone who he sees as the love of his life is saying that there might be a chance that he might not be in her future. But what he’s wrong about is that it won’t break Donna’s heart. To me, it seems like the thought of Eric not being there does break her heart. But at the same time, Donna knows there’s a chance they won’t be together forever. That if she only had that belief and things didn’t work, she’d be crushed. So she was just trying to prepare for all the outcomes.
Basically both these breakup scenes are nuanced and complex and to take Leia & Eric’s side over Donna & Jay’s or vice versa is a disservice and completely diminishing everyone’s experience.
