MY MIND JUST GOT BOGGLED OKAY
i was watching this tiktok and the creator said that in k.l. walther’s (MASSIVE swiftie romance author) the summer of broken rules, in regards to the main couple, “one of the characters’ hard stops is not wanting to be called kid, the other’s is not being called baby” and my jaw DROPPED wondering how i missed that and then she fucking added “and this was written before illicit affairs existed” no yeah my brain is just mush now because WHAT?

Uma Tempestade de Verão- K.L. Walther (+14 anos)

I read The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Wather...
Tumblr media
I think I just found another favorite book. This one just really checks all the boxes for a perfect summer/beach read. I like how the author persuaded me that it is possible to discover your soulmate in just one week. I've previously stated that I'm not a fan of instant attraction and how quickly the two main characters fall for each other after only knowing each other for a brief moment, but this novel destroyed that view and convinced me that it is possible.
There are so many things that I love about this book.
The beautiful narrative/storytelling that hooked me from the very first line.
The setting, that I can picture clearly in my mind.
The game ‘assassin’, that makes the entire reading xperience fun and gripping.
Meredith’s family and extended family bond and how they tried to reconnect, and mourn for the loss of a loved one and how they welcome new members and how to live again.
This is very sweet, fun and heartwarming. Wit (Stephen!), just set the bar for a hero. I love how he and Meredith’s story progresses. It doesn't feel rushed. It just unfolds naturally and I love how wholesome the entire ride is. Also one thing that i also love is that even though it is a large cast there’s so many characters and there’s a lot of stuff going on (family vacation/wedding/the game assassin) it's not hard to follow. And the Taylor Swift reference is everything. If you’re looking for a book to read and to go along with your beach towel and sunscreen for summer this is the perfect book.
Rating: 5/5🌟

✩💦🔫Review:
“The Summer of Broken Rules” is a sweet escape for closed door romance readers everywhere!
The novel centers around Meredith Fox, who recently lost her big sister. Walther turns feelings of grief into words by capturing Meredith’s pain and how it consumed her, isolated her, and transformed her. Though her grief never fully goes away, it lessens at Martha’s Vineyard, a place very near and dear to her heart.
Every summer, Meredith makes the trip to Martha’s Vineyard to reunite with her extended family. I appreciate Walther for making the Fox family so diverse. Same-sex parents, remarried couples, and adopted children are all featured, offering great representation. The family only grows when Meredith’s cousin decides to hold her wedding at the vineyard.
Enter Wit, a member of the wedding party. Still struggling with his parent’s separation and not knowing what direction he is headed in life, Wit is intent on soaking up the last bit of summer.
As the week progresses, Wit and Meredith grow closer, unable to resist the pull they feel towards each other. I absolutely love how their whirlwind romance is healing for the both of them. They truly bring out the best in each other, no matter the circumstance, allowing for character growth.
Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed was the formatting. Each section of the book is a day of the week to represent the seven days that Meredith spends in Martha’s Vineyard for the wedding. Additionally, Walther includes text messages and instagram captions, making for a more engaging read.

Review: The Summer of Broken Rules
The Summer of Broken Rules by K. L. Walther
Genre: YA
Rating: 4/5 🐐
AHHHH. Okay. This book is SOOO cute. It's a precious little YA novel that just grabs your heart (is there anything better than young love?). With a quick-witted (*wink wink*) cast, there's so much laughter to be had while reading this book. It's cute, it's fun (with the exception of the dead sister, but characters have trauma bond), it's everything.
If you're holding onto summer (why would you?), this book is truly perfect. It is the epitome of a fun summer book. The only downside—timelines, but that is also such a convention of this genre that I shouldn't be shocked.
Read this adorable book and I guarantee (well not guarantee, but like STRONGLY believe) that your day will be better!
