We know for a fact that Stede's a Leo historically (and I think it adds up w his character) but hottake: I think Ed's a Leo too, I was torn between that and Gemini, he's a dramatic know-it-all, but I think he def has Gemini goin on in his chart. I think Stede and Ed actually must have fairly similar charts, like they're actually so similar as people besides the way they grew up and that's why they get along so well ya know? Anyway as an astrology ho this is my shot at Ed and Stede's top 6 in their charts, shouting it into the void:

Stede-

A lot of fire and air in this one that's just the vibe I get, he's passionate and longs for adventure, he's actually quite clever but can be a little insensitive sometimes, yet somehow also attentive to those he cares about.

Sun- Leo (as stated earlier) I feel like this one needs little explanation (I end up talking more about his sun sign when I compare him to Ed later when talking about Ed's sun, see below lol) Dramatic, theatrical, draws attention, flamboyant, just listing synonyms at this point

Moon- Libra, At first I thought he'd have a water moon bc he can be quite emotional, but I think thats just the outwardness of his Leo placements. he has this ability to set his feelings aside like an air sign, like when he saved the crew even after Ed died, and then went to mourn in private, although he seems dramatic emotionally he has an ability to detach himself, he forgives quite easily which is a trait ive seen a lot in Libra moons, he has a lot of faith in people. His relationships w others are very important to him, an air moon just makes sense w his whim-prone-ness

Rising- Leo (again ik), he's dramatic asf likes to make a theatrical entrance, draws a lot of attention to himself and cares a lot about his appearance, puts on a confident facade over his cripplingly insecure self in true Leo fashion, is a natural entertainer when he starts to get attention in man on fire

Mercury- Libra (again ik I swear I know about more than two signs) , had to be an air sign he can chat and chat and chat, Ed and him can talk for hours they gotta both have air mercurys, he can also be quite charming in his banter like when he charms Anne Bonnie and Hellcat Maggie like he's a little bit of a flirt even when he doesn't intent to be, he can also be so shady and cunty when he wants to tho, like this dude likes to stur the pot as a strategy kind of lives for the drama, he can be quite clever when he's in a pinch and can always talk himself out of a situation, his bullshitting ability is off the charts

Venus- Taurus, at first I thought he'd have like no earth, but I think he's a little bit more practical in love with the way he thought going to China was too fast, He's still a very attentive lover tho, with Taurus ruled by Venus, he offers Ed a lot of comfort, he's very calming to Ed with his presence and very patient with Ed, he's stubborn in love he never gives up on finding Ed/never loses faith in their love, a real romantic w his cheesy poetry in his letters, immediately shows Ed all of his fancy stuff and that's what initially kind of draws Ed to him, got that luxurious appeal that finer things in life swag

Mars- Libra (AGAIN IK, but a Libra stellium just makes sense to me, not trying to make him seem one dimensional I just get this vibe so strong I swear I'm not just going off stereotypes) This man's always solving conflict or being avoident of his problems, like it's always his tactic, like when he turns Neds crew against him by pointing out that they're being treated unfairly. He prefers for things to be harmonious

Ed:

I think this dude is a chaotic concoction of distributed fire water and air, no practical earth in this mf

Sun- Leo. I just think they both have to be Leo's, Ed is just as dramatic and it's like the world seems to revolve around him at times (like the sun, Leo's ruled by the sun, haha) he just gives such strong Leo-ness w this mane he's got (him and Stede both have excellent hair as a defined feature now that I'm thinking about it) and his facade of confidence is just pure Leo. Him and Stede can both get jealous in a Leo way, like when the other gets all the attention. They both can be a little egotistical and can be kind yet also not take others feelings into account before thinking of their own, like being considerate is not always their first instinct.

Moon- Scorpio. MAN does this boy get HURT. He lashes out asf he is so sensitive. Izzy says "Stede" once and gets fucking shot don't u dare point out what this dude is upset about. He feels things so intensely, doing dramatic shit getting emo w it, gets absolutely consumed by his feelings, had to have a water moon he's a whole tsunami. He's not so secretive w how he feels like maybe the average Scorpio moon but I think the Leo brings it out. This is where Stede and Ed have to figure out how to communicate their feelings w this air and water combo but I think Stede's Libra moon takes the time to understand Ed and how he's caused hurt.

Rising- Gemini. Infamous. Regarded as highly skilled "He's histories greatest tactition", u never know his next move, never shuts up, either introducing himself like "hey everybody I'm blackbeard : )" or "I'm the fucking Devil", the talk of the town, been there done that knows everybody

Mercury- Also Gemini. Like I said he never shuts up, him and Stede talk each other's ears off w these air mercurys, always bouncing between topics, good story teller, him and Stede both, he's always fuckin yelling in my experience Geminis r loud talkers. Goes on rants talks like a nut job. And he's sooo so intelligent his brain is going a million miles a minute, good at memorizing information it makes him a good pirate. Geminis get so eclectic w what they know and they're so so clever and witty and snarky "that's blackbeard, I'm Stede remember."

Venus- Pisces. This dude longs for sweet and delicate affection, he's got these princess doe-eyes, fluttering his lashes and shit, he falls fast for Stede, romanticizes shit, he gets lost and infatuated and day dreamy w shit. He imagined Stede as a beautiful mermaid coming to save him for fucks sake. He's a *sighs* and looks out the window yearningly mf. He PINES like no other. Immediately wanted to watch Stede while he sleeps and switch clothes and go to China, an idealist. I think this matches w Stede so well bc Stede's also a romantic, writing letters and shit, Stede butters him up, but Stede had the ability to remind Ed to be a bit more grounded. They're both so tender ugh they both like to comfort each other ugh

Mars- Aries. He can be quite childish and gets set off by one thing, he has a quick temper, outbursts of yelling, like his rage builds up intense and fast and then burns out, like he literally throws tantrums like when Izzy was pestering him about the plan and then he's like "EVERYTHINGS SO FUCKING BORING". when he's angry he's all consumed and murderous. In my experience an Aries Mars is most likely to smash a chair against the wall and throw a Vase, but then forgive after one conversation bc of how fast burning they r like a bomb and then quiet, returning to that childlike play fullness an Aries has, does shit like play knife parade bc that's their sense of fun, spiteful and gets embarrassed, like when he leaves the fancy dinner table like "YOUR ALL PHONIES" and then is like I've gotta shoot all of them.

Iori: (And afterwards it’s more often than not that he, without fail, wants to be left alone.)

Iori: (We can’t help but wonder what he’s dealing with on his own.)

Iori: (Yet we don’t pry.)

Iori: (Or it’s more that Terra-san himself gives off that kind of vibe not to.)

Iori: (He’s a bright, open person, but closes himself off from other people till the very end.)

Iori: (As if it’s a sacred domain where no one can set foot.)

(Torahime talking on the phone with Nakagami)

Torahime: Yes, the Charisma’s are doing fine.

Torahime: Yes, they are currently preparing for Halloween.

Ohse: Sorry. I got absorbed into making my Halloween costume without meaning to

Rikai: ….

Ohse: I got a bit peckish so I went to the first floor

Iori: EEEH!? You were hungry at midnight!? Even though I didn’t hear it!

Fumiya: Iori, quiet

Iori: Grrrrrr

Ohse: And then…. I bumped right into Terra-san who just got home…

Terra: !?

Ohse: ….Eh?

(Terra pushing Ohse away and running up the stairs)

(Door furiously getting shut)

(Ohse on the floor, breathing heavily)

Iori: (We hadn’t seen Terra-san for a while after that.)

Iori: (Ohse-san said he wanted to die. That he messed up again.)

Iori: (But, I think we, all of us, felt the same in some way.)

Iori: (Terra-san is suffering from something.)

Iori: (Even then, why doesn’t he talk to us, why doesn’t he rely on us.)

Iori: (Regarding the loneliness, the frustration. Feelings like these.)

Amahiko: Terra-san

(Terra walking by in silence)

Amahiko: ….

(Torahime talking on the phone with Nakagami)

the summoning choreography chart

lads the autism got me again. we're in npmd lockdown.

I finally managed to figure out which little 'dance' belongs to each Lord In Black in "The Summoning" bc its hard to tell and it was bugging me. here's a vid for reference.

wiggly - space invaders lookin shit probably meant to be emblematic of his mouth tentacles (0:58, 1:52)

nibbly - licks his lollipop - when others do this they mime licking their hand or any other prop they're holding (1:06, 1:15)

blinky - makes a little triangle w his fingers and looks through it (when pokey does this he looks through his mask) in a sweeping left to right motion (his left). (1:12, 4:53)

tinky - both arms out front and then both arms back cross-country skiing vibes (4:58)

pokey - alternates one arm up one arm down giving drama, michael jackson, disco vibes (1:01, 1:09, 1:19, 3:01)

they each start 'out of the depths of hell and back' doing their own dance and then switch around doing each others dances until 'you summon us once, you summon us twice'

when I compared it to the digital ticket version and I was able to determine the exact order of each Lord's choreography

so i made a chart for yall who wanna learn the summoning choreography under the cut.

i need to sleep

glossary of dance moves and the shorthand i used for them.

im not a choreographer. i am bad at describing how people move in space. so. I used timestamps from the reference video from before. please god do not follow my mediocre descriptions - watch the people in the video do it and copy them.

W - Wiggly (0:58, 1:52)

N - Nibbly (1:06, 1:15)

KKT - karate kid tree edition - there’s one wax on for each side and then they do a thing in the middle that looks kinda like a tree. Idk how else to describe it thats why i add timestamps. (5:00)

WW - whatever we want (2:57)

TR - tra la la la (the skip they do on Stephanie has got a gun) (4:31) (it's hard to see in this version, i highly recommend checking out the digital ticket version if possible. they show this move first in the proshot bc they focus entirely on steph for the next line, but it does go second in order behind KK - you can see jon start to do KK at the transition into chunk 5 in the ref video, and at the end of the chunk he's bent forward bc he just got done doing the bowing part at the end of TR (you can see pokey doing that like 3 seconds earlier after nibbly does the skipping part)

i divided the song into chunks based on when the singing/dancing starts & stops.

hi hello yes i am & i am the right person to ask this question actually

alchemy of souls: this show is so well named bc it literally is my soul. to date the only media that has made me sob hysterically (multiple times!) all of the characters are so incredible and multifaceted and jung somin and go younjung portray the fl with so much depth it is amazing. lee jaewook is also incredible as the ml and his character is one of the most interesting protags i've ever seen. also the cinematography and magic system is amazing i believe it's partially based off of chinese xianxia dramas? but it is so amazing it is my favorite thing ever go watch it: a+ plot, a+ cast, a+ cinematography

law school: this one also has go younjung in it! (alchemy of souls) and i literally could not put it down bc the plot is so interesting & the characters are all. absolutely incredible to watch. it is so much more than just a murder mystery, and i think it really made me rethink how i viewed lawyers & the legal system in general. also solhwi beloveds forever so ! i think this is rlly fun if u love murder mysteries, law, dark academia or just some really well-developed characters

weightlifting fairy kim bok-joo: this one is a bit older but nam joo hyuk is so beloved here?? absolute friends to lovers excellence i love love love the chemistry between the leads like apparently they were dating? during the show? and u can absolutely tell bc bokjoo and joonhyung are so in love with each other. besotted. i think it's such a fun drama and bokjoo is so everything to me

hometown cha-cha-cha: absolutely pure serotonin at its finest. it is so escapist u can just put it on and forget abt all ur worries. there are like 0 stakes it is just such a beautiful exploration of love and living in a small town vs a city and i adore yoon hyejin she is so special to me

hymn of death: this one is literally 3 eps long & it broke me into pieces? it's a story about two people finding love during the japanese occupation of korea and it hurts so badly to see two people trying to keep their culture afloat while being occupied. also the ending is so painful but it is soooo good like. shin hye sun never ever ever misses she's my fav actress i think

my name: another shorter drama! it is 8 eps and they're all so?? action packed?? song jiwoo is so special near and dear to me. it is literally just about a young woman dealing with the grief of the death of her father and trying to avenge his death and it's one of the most painful things i've ever seen but it's incredible. han sohee put everything she had into that portrayal of her

our beloved summer: title is so correct bc this drama is so beloved to me! i honestly love how they portrayed both leads, guk yeonsoo and choi ung's struggles felt so real and kim dami and choi wooshik really did an incredible job portraying them as just. very real people. it's like. haters to lovers to exes to pining to "friends" to lovers but their love is so real. it's so so so good and it's the first kdrama i ever saw so it is forever special to me

honorable mentions:

moving: ok tbh idk how qualified i am to rec this rn bc i just started (another go younjung drama, r u noticing a pattern) but already i adore the plot and the characters and i'm so excited to see where this goes next!! this one is about a group of people who have superpowers and there's some agency involved but tbh idk much more than that

destined with you: in no way is this a drama w an actually good storyline like we are just here for the vibes but i love kim rowoon and i love jo boah and their chemistry is off the charts and they're so cute in this drama! and honestly i am having so much fun every wednesday and thursday w them . so. this one is about a "cold" lawyer and a civil servant who are reincarnations of their past selves who were alive during the joseon dynasty and whose love story ended in extreme tragedy. the lawyer (jang shinyu) is cursed to have some kind of brain tumor i think? and there's a spell book involved that belongs to the civil servant (lee hongjo). it is very no plot only vibes

see you in my 19th life: this one....fair warning. the ending is. quite. something. but honestly it started out so strong and i think it is still a fun time bc shin hyesun strikes yet again. tbh i only got thru this one bc of her portrayal of ban jieum but honestly this is probably one of her best performances if not her best. this one is abt a girl who remembers all of her past lives trying to find the boy she loved in her past life (moon seoha) but couldn't be with bc she died very young

angel's last mission: love: i think this one def got a tad melodramatic at times but honestly kim dan and lee yeonseo are so in love. i want to be in love like they are in love. this is abt a ballerina who, due to an "accident", became blind and couldn't dance anymore and an angel is sent down to help her find love but ends up falling in love w her instead. another shin hyesun drama and she never ever misses so ! her portrayal of yeonseo is an acting masterclass actually

to be watched:

twenty-five, twenty-one: saw an edit of this one to long live and had to watch it so it is on the tbw. also a nam joo hyuk drama (about a young woman's fencing journey & youth w her friends & first love and also about her daughter's ballet career i think)

moon lovers scarlet heart ryeo: i love love love iu and need to see her projects so! heard this one is pure pain which sounds sooo fun actually (about a girl in the 21st century who gets transported to the goryeo dynasty i believe)

extraordinary you: cannot believe there is a drama that exists with both lee jaewook and kim rowoon. how is that real (about a girl who is a side character in a comic book and decides she doesn't want to be and then there's like a crossover w another comic book or something like that)

second off, i don't think im going to have a very good answer for you. legitimately, i used to trawl the nsfs/nsfw tags the most,,, back in about 2019?? and the landscape of who's writing and how much is being written has changed a surprising amount, and I can't remember for the life of me who i used to read.

the sanders stuff? fuck dude i dont remember anyone other than @/tulipanthousa in specific, but i remember reading good stuff. God. i remember tss kinktober 2019 was really good but i cannot rely on tumblr ever being able to take me back that far.

when it comes to just hypnokink blogs? again a lot of the stuff i initially microdosed on is actually gone (i joined tumblr first for porn but also like,,,, ten months before the porn ban)

My life is truly music-inclined, even if I have two left feet and a raspy, rough voice. Those foreign lyrics ring out in my head, every time I enter through the gates of Japanese culture and enter my fantasy I know so well. I mean, cool right? I can still remember how I first embraced her beginning chords in January 2020, when that song, Gurenge, was heard throughout the spacious stadium of the New Era University college department. It was the opening ceremony for Intramurals 2020, and as soon as the melody played, the crowd sang along in a noisy type of harmony.

𝙂𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚, it means “red lotus” in English—the title of the Japanese opening theme for the animation called, “Kimetsu no Yaiba,” or more acclaimed as “Demon Slayer” by millions of anime ethusiasts across the web. I wondered what that range of vocals wanted to tell me. Those beautiful notes and the intensifying instrumental that accompanies such an epic story. Slowly, I understood why she is adored by many people, rain or shine, sun rays to lunar silhouettes. Now, here I am writing with everlasting conviction, to share everything I know about her—the reasons why that captivating rhythm, those inspiring words, and the pleasant emotions, made me sing along. So, let’s rest for a while, and I’ll tell you more about LiSA, behind the reflection of that worn out blade.

LiSA, or Risa Oribe in real life, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and lyricist from the Gifu Prefecture—in the small city of Seki. She is 165 centimeters tall, which is quite tall for a Japanese woman. She is known for her multiple song hits used in Japanese animation titles such as the Fate series and Sword Art Online. Though, did you know that she also sang for the music-based anime series, “Angel Beats!” as one of the main characters who so happened to be a vocalist, as well? This was LiSA’s professional song debut in the music industry, which she lunged into when she was given a chance to step onto the reknowned arena for some of Japan’s history makers: Nippon Budokan! As a kid, Risa Oribe was taught lessons in piano, dancing, and singing, which continued onto her junior high school years. After auditioning in the infamous Budokan, she held onto the dream of becoming an artist on the next journeys she would walk on outside her hometown.

Believe it or not, the name “LiSA” is an stylized acronym, consisting of confident letters that possess unique dignified meaning from one another. The stage name is adopted from a blast from the past, of the times Risa Oribe had travelled to Tokyo to form a band. “LiSA” stands for, “𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙡” which may sound weird for English speakers, nonetheless, its significance still pulls my heartstrings all in all. Prior to becoming the individual singing artist, “LiSA,” Risa Oribe has always been a part of bands ever since high school—one of them being a cover band of indie rock music, “CHUCKY.” Despite the risk of working with the band in exchange for her accredited certificates from university, she continued to reach for her ultimate dream career as a singer. Unfortunately, “CHUCKY” only lasted for three years, and this is what led Risa Oribe to test her luck in the capital of Japan—persevering for that aspiration, because there’s no turning back now!

LiSA’s musical influences are, surprisingly, internationally respected musicians of the English language. Some of these prominent figures in her life are Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Paramore, and Rihanna. She is well-known for memorable hyped performances filled of power and passion. Sometimes, if people are granted the opportunity to be mesmerized by remarkable skill, she is also able to play the guitar and key harmonica in her concerts. She can sing in Japanese, obviously, but her words weaved with melody extends into Chinese and English perception, too. As a songwriter, she personally wrote some of her produced masterpieces like “Shirushi” and “Rally Go Round.” Though, perhaps you’ve never would guess that LiSA had a voice acting debut in 2015, too! Don’t get your hopes up because she did not give life to any anime characters, but instead, she became the Japanese voice of Madge Nelson in the film, “Minions.” I know, don’t get me wrong, it’s a shocking difference from the person LiSA is famous for.

However, for Risa Oribe, it was not something to be shy about, for she absolutely loves Minions! For avid fans of LiSA, they would often spot sightings of Minions merchandise in her social media accounts. It’s a fact that wouldn’t make you think that she can be that intimidating performer on fire, once she leaps onto stage. She still has that gentle vibe, especially when she raises her arm to greet the audience with a simple peace sign. The dark packed venue would chant along the bridge instrumental, rapidly waving their lightsticks until the song performance is finished. It’s as if the stars have landed in a small part of Earth during the night fall, to take a day-off head banging to the beat of rock. LiSA’s concerts deliver the message that “𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨,” as it is the running title pinned to her lives from then to now.

Since I seem to be in a really positive mood today and even though this show clearly doesn't deserve this post here's my list of favorite skam france s6 clips:

Samedi 07:52 The day after ep1: I really really loved the first clip of the season a lot more than the trailer and I think that it was such a great introduction to Lola's pov. We really saw the world through her eyes in such a special way in that moment n I loved all the hints to the plot (same sex couple walking down the street and being viewed as completely normal> w|w storyline with no internalized homophobia; the raccon tag > foreshadowing for otteli and urbex plot; lola photographing broken things > insight into lola's feelings) The cinematography and use of pov was a masterpiece in this one.

Lundi 7:43 Tiff ep1: This one is just here for the grew being the most supportive and loving friend group, skipping classes together to take care of Daphné and that group hug <33 need I say more?? No. Every clip with the grew is gonna be on this list because the little screen time they had this season needs to be honoured. I'm sorry that they did you so dirty babes:((

Mercredi 13:03 Fuck the planet ep1: my absolute favorite mayla clip this season!! one of my absolute favorite clips in general!! I still remember the day when they dropped that clip and I got so excited for this season again. Maya being a climate activist and such a warm and lovely person I immediately fell in love with her. Maya looking at Lola as if she's a princess walking down the stairs to a ball in some fairy tale. Maya not letting Lola's cold remarks throw her off n replying with equal sass instead, Maya's iconic coming out line and Lola smiling for the first time all season!! That clip was really off the charts

Vendredi 16:43 Someone exceptional ep1: This is my absolute favorite clip of the whole season and the amount of times I've rewatched this is actually unhealthy. Something just clicked and for the first time I felt really connected with Lola and felt and understood her pain (probs to Flavie she was amazing here) I loved the lil details abt this clip: Lucas playing the piano, le grew all hugging Daphné, Daphné's speech and break down (lula was amazing here too I really really felt connected to Daphné in that moment), Eliott and Lola meeting for the first time (their best clip this season, gosh the potential they had to actually develop such a cool and beautiful sibling relationship with them and then they did.... whatever the rest of their storyline was), Lola trying so hard to read Daphné's speech and then holding her own instead because she so desperately needs to get this off her chest and make ppl understand her and last but not least the cinematic shots of her running out of the church and breaking down. Truly my favorite clip.

Mercredi 12:56 You don't know me ep2: my second favorite mayla clip and hell did I love their dynamic and chemistry in this one. The community service clips were so so special and gave them such unique vibes I'm so sad that the rest of their storyline really couldn't live up to that because the beginning really was breathtaking and I was so here for their storyline and really believed that I would get the w|w rep I deserve this season. Rip

Jeudi 19:33 Sorry ep2: Daphné and Lola finally warming up to eachother, both of them apologizing, Lola saying that she can make dinner and they can watch one of Daphné's favorite tv shows together. Baby steps. Also Daphné grieving and smelling her mother's shirt to find comfort. Such an important clip!!

Vendredi 22:22 Otteli ep2: Again the opening shots and cinematography of this clip!! Lola meeting la mif for the first time and I was completely buying their found family dynamic from the start, maya and lola being 👀 the entire time and last but not least Eliott being introduced as urbex legend n royalty,, the wasted potential of that storyline tho...

Samedi 6:43 An awesome party ep3: again maya's and lola's chemistry in this one and their first real and deep conversation, maya opening up about her parents and how she found a home and family in la mif, their smiles and laughs and lola replying to Daphné's text messages because that's growth baby!

Lundi 7:53 The slap ep3: again just here for le grew, the way they all pulled daphné in for a group hug I'm cryinnn. Also Lucas telling the people who were gossiping abt Lola to turn around and mind their own business, dare I say iconic. the way we could have had it all this season and then skamfr decided to make them enemies. Hate it here

Samedi 13:18 Hangover ep4: this clip being a parallel to the beginning of ep2, we all believed that Lola went out and slept with another stranger and would feel lost and overwhelmed again and then! we and she found out that she's at maya's n instead of being lost again she completely openes up to Maya abt her life and Maya just holds her and Lola clings onto her as if her life depends on it and finds comfort in Maya. Still crying about this one

Mardi 21:43 You want to talk about it? ep4: I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I've rewatched this clip countless of times simply because seeing Eliott so happy and excited at his workplace has me feeling some type of way. I liked his and Lola's general dynamic in this one my main problem is just that it was so damn underdeveloped and came out of nowhere. Skam france you're a transmedia show text messages would have really helped you bby!!

Samedi 14:23 Luquette ep5: ohh out of all the clips with Eliott in it this one's definitely my favorite (and also one of the only ones I liked) both Eliott and Lola getting to speak for themself abt their mental health, seeing Eliott's development going from being ashamed and hiding his mental illness to now being so open about it and giving others advice, them talking about Eliott's Lucas and Lola's Luquette (🥺) Eliott being ready to run from Daphné with Lola and Lola saying that she's gonna take responsibility and Eliott looking like a proud big brother > the only clip with sibling vibes of them this season

Samedi 17:36 Just a girl ep5: Daphné and Lola reconciling, Daphné wanting to buy Lola picture frames and not letting that go even tho they have so little money and she sorts other stuff out instead. Please their sister bond this season has my heart. And also Maya and Lola at that supermarket gay panic energy at its finest. I loved that clip and that even after what happened last Friday Maya is still such a warm and loving person in that clip. Ugh why did they had to ruin her character later that season??☹

Mercredi 18:49 I miss you ep5: in case y'all are wondering if I'm just gonna put every single mayla clip on that list- don't worry this one is gonna be the last in a while. Anyway back to the good old days lamifex hanging all out together and being literal children together <33 mayla finally getting to talk and Maya explaining herself, showing Lola her scars and telling her that she misses her when she's not around. My heart combusted watching that clip

Lundi 12:35 We are even ep6: le grew studying together!! especially lucas and imane!!!! screaming. the only time we ever got to see them preparing for the bac but at least we have this one clip. Basile and Lola sibling dynamic and also the clip confirming that Daphné indeed has an eating disorder and Lola beginning to be really worried about her

Mercredi 18:27 I don't know what you're looking for ep6: Lola finding out about Daphné's eating disorder and finding proof in her room, Daphné freaking out and the last shots of her trying so hard not to fall apart, lula's acting in this scene!! It was all so realistic it truly is one of the top ten clips too

Jeudi 21:53 It won't always work ep6: Daphné and Lola talking and Lola opening up abt her addiction problems and telling Daphné that she can really really understand her and that both of them can get better again, Lola and Daphné being completely at peace and cuddling on the couch and watching tv together. One of my favorite clips of them this season I just love their sister bond so much

Mercredi 16:52 The break up ep7: both Lula's and Paul's acting was incredibly I was 100% buying that break up, Basile desperately wanting to help Daphné but not really knowing how, Daphné throwing him out and immediately having a break down, feeling so helpless and lost :'(( also Lola seeing her sister breaking down and not knowing how to help her either broke my heart. Protect the Lecomte sisters at all costs

Dimanche 18:32 Freesias ep8: for me this one was the true full cycle moment this season. The Lecomte family visiting their mum on mother's day, Lola revealing that she does know her favorite flowers and that her mum used to sent them to her along with letters she never read, Lola saying that if she could she might read them now but it's too late for that and in some kind of way she was making peace with her mum and everything that happened between them. Daphné taking the umbrella so Thierry can pull Lola close and them just standing in the rain and healing n growing as a family!! This clip was so emotional and important and skamfr had the audacity to destroy all that development with Thierry for useless drama. I'm endlessly bitter

Mardi 18:03 Vital prognosis ep8: just daphné, basile, lola and maya being a happy lil family together. This clip was so peaceful and beautiful to watch every time ep9 ruined my mood I went back to this clip to cheer myself up again. Really wish we could have seen more of them together and maya and lola as a couple

Vendredi 23:04 Emergency ep10: okay so I really didn't like that skamfr switched povs to build up suspense and was actually just triggering for many of us. But I just wanna say Lula's acting!!! The way she said "But how do you know we're going to find her, Lucas? Putain! She has never left a note before this is the first time for all we know" truly her acting!! I rewatched that clip so many times for that line alone (until I realized that the storyline was actually really triggering for me so I haven't watched the clip ever since but still)

Samedi 01:06 Sisters ep10: still hate the storyline and that it was done in episode 10 but I'm sooo glad that Daphné went to talk to Lola alone, that Daphné tells her that she's always loved her and basically everything they said in that clip!! Really moving and emotional one of the only clips that really made me cry this season. Again I live for Flavie's and Lula's acting

Mercredi 16:38 Beep beep beep ep10: even tho the mayla storyline was in context of the season really lacking depth at this point, watching this clip ignoring the context really was a cultural reset. One thing I love abt skam france is just that they let lgbt people live their lives without having homophobia being thrown at them left and right so kissing your gf in the middle of the supermarket like that might not be realistic but I don't care!!!!! let the gays live their life and kiss in the supermarket!!! thanks!! also that song especially the lyrics "darling I won't let you go" thoughts are being thunk💌

And yeah basically that's it. As yall may notice I loved the first half of the season way more than the second half and I feel like there was so much wasted potential and important storylines left unaddressed because they wanted to throw in more drama....

Eurovision 2010s: 20 - 16

20. maNga - “We could be the same” Turkey 2010

You could see it in my eyes, it should come as no surprise that the highest rock entry on this ranking is OF COURSE the avant garde rock entry. 😍

It certainly isn’t a stretch to call “We could be the same” avant garde because it’s an experimental extravaganza if ever there was, a rag-rag fusion of indie rock, industrial, hiphop and folk. 😍 More importantly one that WORKS. It’s really hard to put all of these genres together and not disturb the flow between each segment, yet that is exactly what maNga do. Their song runs like an oiled machine, supported by an excellent score of orchestral rock (the fiddle is an especially nice touch.) The snappy libretto keeps the ensemble well together, creating an atmosphere of pure coolness.

This brave and creative entry is further supported by an act that has a well-defined aesthetic and artistic vision. (another sign of good avant garde. Pay attention because we are going to boot a LOT of them near the top of this ranking). MaNga don’t need much in terms of staging (since their song is already excellent), so a clever combo of strobe light seizure + dramatic helmet removal (FEATURING ACTUALLY CUTTING METAL AWAY WITH A BUZZSAW) is all it needs.

FOR JUST ONE NIGHT WE COULD BE THE SAME

NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY.

Eurovision is all about taking the hand that you’re dealt and running with it. maNga did exactly that. They weren’t vocally perfect but again, rock is a genre where it’s okay to sound unimpressive because the score will always out class you. They don’t have the best song, but again, it was something special, brave and inspired. Every small aspect of “We could be the same” comes together into a whole that is much bigger than the sum of its parts and for that, I shall always cherish them.

I was worried that Joci’s NQ in the latest contest would tarnish his legacy, but if anything “Az én apám”’s failure at being entertaining only made me appreciate “Origo” even more.😍 Let us not beat around the bush. “Origo” is art. Like all art, it’s largely hit-or-miss. You either love this wonderful fusion of rap, self-references to Samuraihood and gypsy folk traditions, or you’re a unevolved troglodyte with subpar taste.😈 Lol I remember the music journalists and juries HATING “Origo” and... honestly, I get it. Yes. I can understand that deeply personal anectodes and proudly displaying your cultural heritage can fly over the heads of those narrow of mind. It’s fine. Not every song has complex meaning. You can vote for the “Replays” of this world at your heart’s content. ^__^

Music is at its core a form of expression, of conducting emotion with sound, of telling a story. We use words as a crutch for our empathy, but truly good music doesn’t need to rely lyrics in order to spread its message around. The true message always lies in the score. “Origo” shatters those language barriers by slowly,

but steadily

unfolding a melancholic and touching narrative

that strikes everyone silent.

Only logical we continue from artistic complexity to figurative cotton candy. 😍 but the same musical principles apply here as well, actually. “Marry me” has an upbeat tempo flanked by wedding bells that already carries its happy-go-lucky marriage vibe across even before the first words are spoken. 🤗 It is there to indulge and delight, which it does with all the zest and pluck you’d expect from Krista Siegfrids.

Anyway, I’m sure this will shock you but I FLOOOOOOOOVE Krista Siegfrids soooooooo fucking muuuuuch as a human and I am NOT backing down on my fanboyism. She’s one of the few Eurovision Alumni that ALWAYS makes me happy whenever she appears, either as a force of HIGH FASHION/UMK hostess or as a resident melfest flop queen.😍 HON SNURRA MIN JORD!!!

As it happens, “Marry me” is the perfect canvas for her over-the-top, realhousewifesque personality. Lol this is where my degrees of separation come in, because I’ve met several people that personally know Laura Tesoro and... with one exception they ALL fucking loathe her. 😍 (and aforementioned exception is her cousin 😍) The general concencus re: Laura is that she’s an insufferable conceited bitch. Now, this could have easily ended up terrible if LauraLaura was That Unfounded Girl but... um,

can we say she has grounds to be a bit high on herself? She was fucking awesome in Stockholm. If anything Laura’s diva id helped “What’s the pressure”. First of all, there is the admirable confidence with which she takes the stage and completely NAILS every twist and turn with minimal effort. This is pure performance TALENT and if you can’t see that you’re Helen Keller.

All in all, I think Laura has the justification she needs to have an ego, something her aforementioned haters (begrudgingly) admitted after seeing her own the live twice.🤭 She is a living conduit of confidence juju, a performance wonder, a Diva trapped in the body of an antropomorphic labrador. Dynamite comes in small packages and Laura Tesoro is more lit than Chinese Newyear fireworks. 🎇________________________________________________________________

16. Hovi Star - “Made of stars” Israel 2016

I’ll be honest, Hovi Star is one of my favourite human beings to ever participate in Eurovision.🤗 He has proven himself an UNSTOPPABLE force of sass, delivering interview gold on a terrifyingly consistent basis. There are enough examples, but the ones I’m going with are his impeccable Ira Losco Snatch Game and his hilariously petty, one-sided feud with Douwe Bob (Dutch reporter: “what do you think about Douwe.” Hovi: “Oh I don’t think about him.😊 At all.🙂 Ever. 🙃 *hairflip*” god what a King of stonecold putdowns 😍)

Having said that, even though I loved Hovi as a ~human~ going in, I was still caught off-guard by how much I loved “Made of stars”. See, you know what I think about stripped down power-ballads: I don’t think about them. At all. Ever. *hairflip*.

However, this fucking song

pulls all of my heartstrings

with mesmerizing efficacity.

“Made of stars” showcases the best of Israel: they excel at classical drama: well-choreographed and sentimental, “Made of stars” is a genuinely touching ballad which Hovi magically imbibes with the spirit of Conchita. He whips up emotional tension so thick only his wit can penetrate it.

As an entry “Made of stars” is very emotionally intelligent and so, so brave. It has clearly defined yet subtle undertones of homosexuality that make me feel represented and loved. It is staged in good taste, elegant, introverted and clever, yet accessible, direct and poignant. The middle-eight’s crescendo-into-starfall creates a bone-chilling moment of beauty, of pride, of empowerment.

For such a simple entry, it delivers a lot of great things, proving once more: it’s not what you perform, but how you perform it.

And this update spelled the end for Turkey, Hungary, Finland and Israel.

TURKEY

Not much to say, honestly. Turkey have three entries in this decade and two of them were good. They are a hit-or-miss nation for me overall, mostly because i LOVE them in the 80s and 90s and somewhat dislike them in the 00s. What mostly bothers me is TRT’s attitude towards the rainbow community AND their self-entitlement towards the jury vote/big five. Both are highly toxic and I’d rather they keep on sitting out until they’re willing to become a healthy part of the Eurovision community again.

HUNGARY

Hungary are a good Eurovision country and their statistics reflect that. Boggie of COURSE ruined it by being the worst, but she’s an exception, not the rule. They are a really good country for indie gems and hopefully they’ll get their shit together. Could make a nice outsider winner pick in the upcoming decade, who knows?

FINLAND

Finland is such an underrated eurovision nation. I mean, look at that chart, and then ponder on the fact, with 7 good entries out of 10, they NQ’d six times and that NONE of their four qualifiers reached the top 10. Finland are bullied beyond belief and it fucking needs to end.

ISRAEL

This looks more underwhelming on paper than it is in reality. Israel’s probelm is never the song. Their songs are nearly always good. The problem is the live performance, where they get their accents wrong (ie: Mei dying from wideshotitis, Kobi being reduced to a sobstory, Dana being a giant penis joke, Harel fucking up vocally and Netta being reduced to a parody of herself). They just need to lighten up more, which they did post-Nadav resulting in a few great entries, and Toy. Overall, Israel are one of my favourite Eurovision countries, and for good reason: when they are good, they are fucking excellent.

Jin- Jin is a solo artists signed to a record label based in LA, he’s managed by a guy who they all refer to as Bang (im original). He grew up in the same place as Y/n but he’s a couple years older than her, like 4. So they always knew each other and actually become friends on Jin’s senior year of high school and Y/n was still 14 at the time. Jin is actually a pretty laid back guy, plays guitar, piano, writes his own songs, and is very carefree. Jin has a crush on Y/bff/n but wont tell her bc hes a pussy.

Jeongguk- He’s the baby of the group as usual since he was born in ‘97, only a year younger than you but you babied him like no tomorrow. He’s part of a duo, that’s signed to the same label as Jin, named Wings, with Taehyung. Bang discovered them through youtube and began to manage them which led to get attention from other artists. He met y/n by accident, she was coming in to feed Jin because he’s always hungry but instead of finding Jin in the regular studio space, she finds the duo Wings. Just a short convo and she was pulled in and convinced Jin to introduce her and they’ve been friends ever since. He’s such a sweetheart but can be a little hard headed so the group tends to put him in his place from time to time, he’s the most outspoken, without a filter. Jk also is a rapper in Wings and he gives lots of input in creating songs, from producing to writing and mixing.

Taehyung- He’s truly the heart of the friend group. He has such a good heart and cares so much about everyone around him and his fans of course (just like Jk). He can be very cracky from time to time but he’s very smart and invested in art. Tae really tries to put as much time as he can to the music he makes w Jk as well, so he writes just as much as jk, if not more. He has less of a roll in the producing other than contributing melodies and coming up with slight changes in notes when recording. Although he’s the biggest sweetheart, if anyone was to talk bad about any of his best friends or loved ones they would witness a scary tae. He’s the one everyone seems to gravitate to because of his warm smile; so he’s usually who gives out the best advice.

Y/bff/n- She’s literally y/n’s twin, they grew up together; from the first day of kindergarten they never separated. She’s super kind and loving but can be a bitch when its needed. She works in the fashion industry and graduated just a year ago and already has caught the eyes of some designers. She’s a very supportive and reliable friend, she’s a mix of all the guys and y/n combined. Y/n introduced her to Jk and Tae shortly after she herself met them and everyone just seemed to get along. She’s always had a thing for jin but bc he’s older she hasnt said anything.

Y/n- Surprisingly not much of an extrovert than you’d imagine a sugar baby to be. She graduated college majoring in interior designing and has already begun her new business. Business isn’t booming so she’s kind of earning just enough to pay bills and pay rent and food of course. She has amazing energy, the type to be up at 3am and still have a smile on her face. Hates feelings though, she rather not date and just have fun. She says feelings aren’t worth her time and she doesn’t want the messiness that comes w love. She wants simple; gifts and hickeys to show how much fun she’s having.

Wings- Music duo involving; Jeongguk and Taehyung. Music style is pop, r&b, hip-hop and a bit of trap. Both Jk and Tae sing and rap in their songs and have equal rolls in the group. Get along quite well so there’s little problems with each other, unless its about Paradise. Jk allows them to get to him so he gets fired up when they do anything like throw shade on twitter. Tae doesn’t pay attention to them bc he knows that they’re just being childish and he can’t be bothered w them. They are more chill with drama and never start anything so they’re seen in a much nicer light (bc they are nicer).

Paradise- Music group, involving; Jimin as a lead singer and sometimes raps, Suga as a main rapper and vocals, RM as the leader and lead rapper, and lastly Jhope as a main rapper and background vocals. Everyone contributes some parts of the song making process from writing to producing to mixing. They’re signed to Jin and Wings’ rival label but are managed by the same manager, very ironic. Their music style is a mix of pop, r&b, and hip-hop. Due to many similarities with Wings they compete constantly on who places higher in every single chart possible. Many times have released music on the same day just to bump sales for Wings down. Jimin and Jhope are more hostile with Wings than anyone else.

Suga/Yoongi- He’s actually a big softie and loves to care for people without showing his real emotions. Believes he can show his feelings by his actions instead of speaking about them so no one truly knows how he feels. He’s not the type to always have a smile on his face, especially because he usually only gets 2 hours of sleep. He lives and breathes music. He loves creating music, its his form of therapy, even if they’re songs that no one else will hear but him, he puts in the work. After meeting Y/n at an awards show w Jin he was very intrigued and asked for her number. He’s not really interested in a real relationship at the moment because he’s way too busy and adding a girlfriend would eat up his studio time. But he still likes to have fun, despite his soft side, in bed he’s very dominant and surprising. Suga takes no ones shit, it doesnt matter if its his own member, like Jimin, he has no problem knocking him down a few pegs. he loves jimin as a friend and artist but sometimes he’s a little much and needs to be told off.

Park Jimin- To the public he’s a very nice guy with a good heart and very humble. But in private he’s almost the complete opposite, he’s very egotistical and believes things, like women, should come easily to him. After Paradise’s fanbase kept growing he got this newfound confidence and he felt a bit more entitled. He does write a lot for the group and contributes melodies with the rappers and tries to give his input. He does work hard for the group and fans so thats where part of his ‘confidence’ comes from; he wants people to know that he’s worked hard and nothing was handed to him. But it comes off wrong because he’s a dickhead. Hates Wings with a passion, for no reason other than them being slightly bigger that Paradise. Partially a fuckboy, but he’s a much more an emotional boiiii than the rest. So when he crushes, he actually falls for the person. Y/n is interesting to him.

J-Hope- Isn’t too much of a ray of sunshine. He’s the darker rapper in the group, when writing his verses they carry so much weight to them which is great because it gets people interested. He’s one of the reasons Paradise is seen as dark group that talks about deep shit. Not very interested in partying and fucking around as much. He wants a real relationship and not someone who only wants his money. Great fashion sense. Doesn’t have a problem w Y/n but doesn’t care to get to know her.

RM- what a sweetheart this one. he’s the tae of Paradise. As leader he thinks its a bad example to give into the Wings vs Paradise. He doesn’t see the problem with their music and actually enjoys it. Has hung out with Y/n’s group and is good friends with Jin. He’s very friendly and gives a sweeter vibe to Paradise, in photoshoots and stuff his dimples and sweet smile stand out and bring curious listeners. Produces a lot of songs and writes a lot too. He’s very well known in the industry to have amazing songs and a metaphorical way of writing that make songs meaningful so he’s sold many songs to bigger artists. He’s known as the optimistic rapper that at times you can hear his pessimism slip out when songs are truly meaningful.

This is really interesting. Considerably, as the person who is uncomfortable with the general approach to astrology, I can speak to your saying that it hasn’t actually lead to compatibility. Example:

Once when I was at this spiritual dude’s house, he looked up my sign and specifically asked for my bf’s sign to compare, then compared his compatability with me to my compatability with my s/o, pointing out how the book said we were more compatible.

As gross and presumptuous as that seems, that’s how it always feels to me. Instead of paying attention to me (I was not interested in that guy, not available, yet he didn’t ask if I was or not) a person is suddenly reacting to a simplified concept of me. They look to it and trust it more than they want to get to know me.

From the outside, I almost never see people talking about doing this aside from romance, which doubly skeeved me because intimate relationships are the most genuine, the most honest, or should be, so to see people trying to ‘type’ and peg possible dates by type seemed weirdly inhumane and predatory to me. Like if you are trying to be intimate lovers, that is the time to be open, present and honest, genuinely inspecting, learning and appreciating who they show you to be.

It also seemed like a lot of cognitive dissonance because there’s a huge overlap in New Age/Metaphysical Laws and Astrology. So what didn’t seem to gel to me was like, knowing that the universe shows you what you expect, how did it not seem like blatant self-fulfilling prophecy to say “such and such type person is always a problem”?? Add to that, like you said, how no one who uses charts this way seems to be able to avoid continual, repeated drama in their lives. So why trust it so much? I’ve never once used charts with people and I meet wonderful people all the time and have lots of love and success.

It is important to me to be open to others’ spiritual languages and beliefs but at the end of the day a lot of it just doesn’t compute. It’s just another identity to confuse. And so since there was something judgy about it, I always got this judgy vibe from people who used it. So I’ve just never been into Astrology, even after studying it.

So wow yeah it’s interesting that so much of what couldn’t really let me settle with Astrology are the same things that make you feel like you don’t need it any more. I think it’s important to remember that all magic is really just a magic feather and don’t get caught up in giving external things power over your own intuition.

I don’t think it’s bad- like I said it’s perfectly fine for introspection and if you’ve learned what you’ve learned now about yourself, you only did so in this manner by using astrology as an experiment- so it’s all part of the process. I guess it’s more like a training wheel you can take off when you’re ready to speed up.

i agree that it doesn’t help with the atmosphere in the fandom, it’s gotten so much worse correlating with how much the boys asked of us and how much more the company focused on promoting them based on the records and numbers :( and i also think it’s pretty ironic coming up with that song now with how much they and the company had been asking and doing to get money out of us… i’m also bitter with bighit’s treatment of foreign fans because of what happened today, but anyways.. wish they gave us better things to focus on, at some point we are going to reach the limit and their goals will never be met and the fandom will always remain feeling guilty about it, so i wish the boys had more vague or personal goals instead of giving us specific numbers

i think it’s like that with most fandoms that are built around real people, because it’s so time consuming and there are a lot of things you have to deal with, but it reached pretty critical levels in our fandom, any time anyone says something negative it’s just HYSTERICS about how fake of a fan you are, or that you’re too dramatic for even thinking outside of anything the company/group wants you to… but yeah i agree with you, always gotta look at things with some level of realism

Yeah it’s true and only natural that the more awards / wins there are, the less it means to everyone, both us and the boys. I don’t think we’ll get a moment like their first daesang again tbh, i’m really grateful i experienced that moment live.

and you’re right that people are really awful with the streaming, i saw so much guilting everywhere.. like sorry, i work full time,i can’t leave the mv playing 24/7, i do what i can as a fan, everyone tries to help within their means.

it’s just that now it feels like even those sacrifices we make aren’t enough, because in the end we will always be asked and expected to do even more.

and i agree with you, honestly this album felt from scratch like it was made to get them a lot of success, but it lost a lot of what people like them for in the process (the boys’ input, their sincerety about the result), i was hoping that once they would achieve that HUGE goal that they talked about for years, that they and us would breathe out and feel like, yeah we got there, now we can do what matters. but i guess there is still more and more, they just want more sigh, i just hope that once it all starts going down (which it has to eventually) that it won’t be too harsh on them, i know they worry about it a lot

yeah it was like that for me too, but seeing them up there reminded me of why they are the best for me ;-; i also wish for that, cause tbh the songs where boys could say something more were the the best ones on the album and made me FEEL things, while other songs, even if they were fun, they were just empty to me, like empty radio bops, sadly. i’m sorry the vlive put you off, i thought it was cute, though they were tired. i didn’t pay much attention to tae not talking, because he is often like that during broadcasts tbh, he isn’t as talkative as the others during group settings, and secondly he is a rEALLY moody kid, so since they are all tired (they did this between fansigns as well) ofc he would be sitting there with his arms crossed, that’s just how he is. however i agree that the billboard part was weird, the broadcast was to celebrate it but when namjoon tried talking about it they changed the subject after a minute when nobody was enthusiastic at all.. it just makes you feel like, you work so hard to get them these awards to make them happy, right? but if they’re not even really all that into it, then it’s all about the sales and the media play and the cred, so what are we doing it for? but that is me being bitter i guess ;-;

The Evolution of Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is an American Country/Pop Singer from Pennsylvania, and was only 16 years old when she released her first album, Taylor Swift. She is now 27 years old with the release of her sixth studio album Reputation. She has been in the music industry for a long time, and it wasn’t an easy journey for her, but with each new album she releases comes new stories and experiences that have shaped her into the person she is today.

Her first album, “Taylor Swift”, contains songs such as Our Song, Picture to burn, and Should’ve said No. This album was primarily a country album through and through. She has a live band playing in the background of her songs, and when performing live. Her music was an expression of her life so far, as it is for most singer songwriters. She fell heartbroken, she felt love, she felt regret, and she felt lonely. Teenage years are tough, and when you go through these feelings all at the same time for the first time, it’s even worse. It’s hard to make music that has metaphors or a deeper meaning than the actual truth, especially during freshman year of high school, which is when she wrote most of this album. So, when she says to her heartbreaker in Picture to Burn, “you red necked heartbreak who’s really bad at lying” I felt relieved that she wasn’t trying to be something that she wasn’t. She was just being a teenager. Personally, as a kid who grew up surrounded by alternative rock music made by 30+ year old males who have experienced just about everything life has to throw at a person, Taylor Swift and her teenage angst and country rhythms were extremely refreshing to me and others my age.

She began to grow in popularity by her second studio album Fearless. Some of the featured songs on this album are Love Story, and You Belong with Me (but my personal favorite are Fifteen, The Best Day, and Forever & Always). Her music and lyrics have not grown much from the last album. These two albums are only one year apart, have very similar subject matter, lyrics and vibe to them, and yet they are still extremely refreshing. It’s a kind of bubblegum teenage love story that makes you forget about the problems or struggles in your life concerning school, family, or friend drama. She had her debut tour with this album (fun fact, it was my first concert) and finally shared her songs with fans in a way that she couldn’t before. Her stage presence was perfect for a girl her age (around 18). She wasn’t the best, but she had fun dancing to her songs, which made crowd have fun too. At this point in her career, Taylor and her music were fun. She hadn’t had too much heart break yet or experience in the world of music. But that would change, and that change would be seen in her next studio album.

There was a 2 year break between her new album Speak Now and Fearless. During these two years she had a relationship with Joe Jonas, which ended in October 2008, and Taylor Lautner, who she met on set of the movie Valentine's day in 2009. With the release of this album came songs like Better Than Revenge, that was obviously a diss at Joe Jonas and his new girlfriend. This is one of the first tracks that she had made about another celebrity through her music. She was so hurt and confused by this break up that she went into the studio and let loose. She was young, she was angry, and she wanted revenge. At that age there’s no better way of getting revenge than by dissing your ex and getting paid to do it. There are obviously more mature ways to handle that kind of a situation, but I did think it was better that she didn't make that song the focus of her album, but instead focused on other songs such as Fearless. However, her album discussed her relationship with Taylor Lautner as well with a song called “Back to December”. This song was about the regret she had about leaving someone who was so good to her. It’s a sad song that shows both her experience and growth. This album basically has two sides. It has songs like Better than Revenge, You’re Not Sorry, and more, that are about feeling hurt and lied to from the one you love. But there are also songs like Fairytale, Mine, and Back to December that are meant to embody a pure love that she has once felt. Taylor Swift has grown from simple lyrics with the same exact beat, to something a little more intricate. It’s just as country pop and refreshing, but her lyrics are beginning to get deeper as she gains more experience and grows a little bit older. Just like the fans who are supporting her.

It took her another 2 years to make Red, and this may just be her most infamous album. It contains songs such as “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. At this point Taylor is 22 and had 3 public relationships between this album and her last, the most notable being a relationship with Harry Styles. The album was about heartbreak and anger and revenge. But, unfortunately, it seemed more like she was yelling at someone, rather than trying to find comfort in her music. It was as if she took 12 steps backwards. When she went on music awards she would say digs at the people she had been with in the past while performing, and most of the digs were at her ex Harry Styles. When I watched Taylor perform before, I was watching her perform for herself and her fans. But now, I was watching a public feud that I wanted no part in. However, at the time, fans understood that Taylor felt hurt, and the only thing she could think of was the break up. She didn’t have to make it so public, but as a public figure of that magnitude, it is hard for her to keep anything private. It’s understandable, but a little disappointing.

Taylor Swift released her fifth studio album 1989 in 2014. It smashed the charts breaking records in a number of different categories. She came out with FOUR music videos and hit singles: Bad Blood, Shake it off, Blank Space, and Wildest Dreams. (Personally, I believed every single song on this album was a hit) She grew us an artist, a performer and as a person. In fact, her experiences in New York have shaped her into who she is now. New York brought a new energy to her. She made dozens of new friends who made her feel powerful, happy, and confident. She describes how New York City feels to her in the track Welcome to New York. Bad Blood was about friends that she had in the industry who left her or betrayed her, and she’s seen in the music video with other girls, new friends, who are behind her ready to help her fight the battles that lie ahead. Blank Space has a great concept. She makes fun of herself, her past, and the media in this song and music video. Now that she has grown into a new era of herself, she can poke some fun at herself. That’s a part of growing up. This album had an overwhelming sense of maturity, satire, and fun again (finally)! Also, her love for New York and finding herself transformed country pop into a more mature dance and modern sound. As a fan since 2007, I was so proud that Taylor Swift found herself and her happiness, and grew from the experiences instead of traveling down the same path.

Now it’s 2017 and Taylor Swift has come out with her latest studio album Reputation. I have not yet listened to it but I’m extremely excited to listen to the new stories, experiences and growth within it.
