Chess Prodigy ♟️

"Hard work pays off." This is a quote that is always used if a person is striving for something; it serves as an encouragement to others. Just like a nine-year-old boy named Bince Rafael Operiano, who became a champion in chess in Thailand.

Bince is just a normal boy who also experiences struggles like other people do. After winning in the said event, he was called a chess prodigy. But despite all of that, his father still remembers the struggles he and his family experienced before they managed to touch a trophy.

Bince was born on October 24, 2013. His parents are Ben Operiano and Rosemary Roblico Operiano. He is a third-grade student who currently attends San Isidro Elementary School. He started learning chess at the age of five as a bonding activity with his father.

Before attending the said event in Thailand. Bince began his first appearance when he managed to win the National Youth and Schools Chess Championship in Dapitan City last September 2022. That was the cue when he qualified to represent the Philippines in the international event in Thailand.

But it doesn't stop there. The struggles that Bince and his family endured and sacrificed just to send their son to Thailand were all worth it.

His father was a security guard, and he asked for sponsorships because they could not afford the plane tickets and other expenses. After having enough money, they were able to send Bince and his father to Thailand.

In the said Facebook post of Albay 3rd District Representative Fernando Cabredo on November 13, He stated the struggles of Bince's and his father's financial situation.

He stated that, "due to limited funds and while waiting for the plane ticket sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, Bince and his father spent three nights at the airport with those benches as their bed. The little boy had to travel first to Thailand without his father, Mr. Ben Operiano."

In line with this, the mother of Bince also stated that on the first day of the competition, it can be seen that Bince is crying due to being alone.

But with stability, he bravely faced his opponents regardless, even without his father around. It is also stated that he felt pressure and lost to his opponents in the first games. But after his father arrived, his game started improving, and from then on, he began to win in the following rounds.

Bince got to take home a trophy and also four medals. In the said competition, there are a total of 181 players from 12 countries in Eastern Asia. Being declared the overall champion, the Philippines bagged 32 gold, 27 silver, and 22 bronze medals. (Quismorio, 2022).

Due to this remarkable victory by Bince, it made the Filipinos proud, especially his parents. When he turns ten years old, people can actually state that Bince is set to become a National Master in chess.

Hard work really pays off. One of the examples is Bince. Despite being financially unstable, he still manages to fly and fight in Thailand for the Philippines. It's due to the support of everyone around him, the sponsors, supporters, and especially his family.

Life can really be challenging, but it's still worth it at the end of the day. The blood, sweat, and tears that you put into your work will probably pay off just like the journey of Bince Rafael Operiano, a chess prodigy.

Like I did with the moral alignments, I thought I would make a post about why and how I sort characters into Hogwarts Houses! There are also quizzes so you can figure it out for yourself as well. I go into detail about each House, what they represent, their background and what it means to be sorted into a certain House.

Figuring out which Hogwarts House you belong to has been around since the HP series came out. But I think there’s more to it than simply choosing to be in ‘the brave house’ or ‘the smart house.’ I think it reveals a lot about a person - or rather, a large aspect. 

Here are a few tests for you to try, comment below what you got!
