#the young justice and teen titans have extra protection

DC x DP Prompt *24*
Something has changed. Everyone in the hero community could feel it, even the ones outside of the Justice League.
Over night it seemed like all of them got stronger, faster and more resilient when they were trying to protect someone.
On the other hand, if one of them tried to use their skills to do something unheroic, it was harder to use them and other heros seemed to be able to sense their betrayal easier.
It took some time for Zatanna and the rest of the Justice League Dark to figure out what was going on. Mostly because they didn't think of this specific thing.
A new god had ascended. Something that happened rarely, especially nowadays. But the magic users were sure. Every hero they had checked, had a divine blessing from a new patron god. And every former hero who had fallen to villainy in the last few month had a curse put on them.
The god of super heros had ascended and was watching over them. While some heros got paranoid, others felt some sense of pride and relief.
And maybe it wasn't a bad thing, if something else was making sure that evil wouldn't take hold of them. As soon as they knew their name, they could properly worship them.

dropping in birdflash for the ship ask meme
Bro the fact I was going to bed and I see this 😂 fuck my sleep birdflash comes first. What they're talking about btw (link)
1. What made you ship it.
Buckle up because it's a doozy, so I was big on reading things on DeviantArt art and I stumbled upon a birdflash from from the sonadow side by the suggestion box. I wasn't as well versed in DC at the time, I watched Batman movies, the teen titans angsty anime lol, and I had a Wally west Flash comic I stolen from my cousin... And I was a huge marvel fan at the time so I didn't know about young justice league but I knew of the justice league and I thought this was fanon team thing, anyways I knew Dick and I knew Wally, was a big Wally x jinx shipper at the time too, so I'm guessing the suggestion fics but that in consideration idk anyways... The fic is called Nothing to Be Sorry For by sixdimensionaldragon and this fic is about (⚠️ warning major death⚠️) the young justice league on a mission by Bruce to take down a drug dealer ring that is guarded by men with extra military grade machine rifles. Honestly Bruce probably something would do but also not. Anyways Robin gets poisoned and they got no antidote and kaldur doesn't know how to help not being familiar with this poison, and Megan can't stop it (mind you I only know Bruce, dick, and Wally so these characters are just voices to me at the time I didn't even give a face.) Anyways Wally pissed because Dick is dying quicker and even tells Meg off despite having trying to get her affection for awhile because everyone basically said he's dead so leave him and continue and honestly looking back yeah Wally would act like this because of trauma, so Wally picks Rob up and runs trying to get out of this ring only to alert the guards (meg is trying to stop him but not having it) well one of them got Wally in his leg and he's skidded across the hallway protecting Dick, Dick walks up and they do the "I'm sorry" "don't be sorry" "leave me and safe your self" "I'm never leaving you" thing, Dick knows he's stubborn so he ask for his mask to be taken off since they're not going to make it so Wally does and they're looking at each other knowing this is is and they smile before being killed, and the team was trying to follow Wally this whole time so they're hearing regular gunshots but stop at a series of short ones before continuing again to find out that Dick and Wally are dead hand in hand with a peace smile AND FIVE GUN SHOTS IN THE CHEST EACH BTW LIKE MA'AM THIS IS OVERKILL WITH FIVE and ends there. 13yo me ADORE it so then I went down a birdflash rabbit whole watch yjl pirated in Espanol dub eng sub, read more, and got familiar with DC. This fic started this all.
(also if I could continue that fic from where it left off, Barry and Bruce became revengeful and killed their sons murders this has stuck with me for years. I had a playlist for it and it's not my fic!? If Sixdimensionaldragon sees this know you started this beast and I was addicted to your fic for years.)
2. What are your favorite things about the ship
Their bond, their jokes, and the fact they are a package deal no matter what!
Fanon part, I love the amount of fics they're dating and we agreed that they'll forget to tell people and just get comfortable for shits and giggles.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have for this ship?
Not enough amvs about this ship, and Barry and iris would give out the scarier shovel talk, and that we collective don't talk about that fight scene in yjl that Wally was pissed Bec Dick was understanding he was worried about him then his souvenirs way too quickly.
(13yo me's unpopular opinion was make it canon, I thus retract that statement and will beat the living shit out of her for ever saying that. Baby DC fan or not that's stupid.)
Now I sleep.

Top 10 Favorite Young Justice Characters
Tumblr media
10. Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle
Starting off the list is Blue Beetle. Young Justice introduced me to him, and I was hooked. He’s probably the most mellow and calming voice. His arc and relationship with Bart (friendship or not) were my favorite aspects of S2. They bounced off each other in every scene. I was very disappointed when Jaime and Bart were sidelined so much, and hope S4 changes this (particularly with Bart).
Jaime in the number 10 spot since he doesn’t really have much of a memorable personality. Still love him to bits though.
Tumblr media
        9. Will Harper/Red Arrow
Funny enough, I did not like Will. He was an asshole in S1; S2 kind of changed my mind about him but not enough since he didn’t appear as much. What really changed my mind was the episode “Private Security” (S3 Ep.4). I started looking back into Will’s storylines and, I have to admit, his is probably one of the best character development.
The first season had him unwillingly living a lie and betraying the people he cared for. In season 2 he was so consumed into finding the original Roy for five years, not even caring or focusing about his own life. I felt really bad for Will because he was probably going through an identity crisis and thought he couldn’t live his life without finding Arsenal. Probably felt guilty.
Seeing him living his own life and being happy with his daughter was so heartwarming. I smiled every time Will appeared in the latest season (totally ignoring the Will x Artemis fiasco), especially with Lian. I’m very proud of him.
I feel bad for putting him so low, yet I adore the next characters more.
Tumblr media
 8. Garfield Logan/Beast Boy
I have been a massive Beast Boy fan since Teen Titans so you probably can imagine how excited to see him. His origin story was unique and his brother-sister bond with M’gann was very sweet. It was pretty weird seeing how much younger Gar was than Dick, but I got used to it. I was bummed that Gar wasn’t in S2 as much; however, S3 truly made up for it.
After watching Beast Boy being a great leader in S5 of Teen Titans, I wanted a leader-like and more mature version of him. Young Justice truly delivered with Gar being the leader of the Outsiders. It’s nice to see him treated with respect rather than as a joke because that was my biggest gripe with Teen Titans. Though it was weird seeing him not crack a joke at all.
Gar’s story with his mom was heartbreaking to see. I literally cried seeing his reaction to revisiting his trauma in S2 and S3; I just wanted to hug and tell him how awesome he is. My only complaint with Gar in S3 was that the Outsiders weren’t established until near the end of the season.
His voice actor being Greg Cipes also gives him extra points (He’s a chill guy and radiates BB energy).
Tumblr media
 7. Dick Grayson/Nightwing/ Robin I
Sorry to all the hardcore Nightwing fans.
I love Dick (don’t get any ideas), but he doesn’t get enough development in the spotlight. One of the things I really wanted to see from him is his growth as a main leader, and his journey to becoming Nightwing. I was really bummed when these happened between the first two seasons.
To be honest, I don’t have as much to say about him other than straightforward qualities I enjoy about him.
1.His Voice (it’s so soothing)
2.His Personality (very charismatic)
3.Very Handsome (Probably in the top 3 my most handsome YJ Men list)
I put him higher than the others since he made a lot of contribution to the story and his new words (gotta love that aster!)
Tumblr media
6. Megan Morse/M’gann M’orzz/Miss Martian
If I made this list during S1, M’gann would have probably been in my top 3 (maybe even No. 1), but S2 didn’t give her any brownie points.
I really liked S1 Miss Martian because of her kind heart, awkward girl next door personality. Her trouble fitting in the beginning reminded me of when I was going through a time in high school; seeing her having trouble as well helped me feel not so lonely. M’gann powers were (still are) my favorite since I am a big fan of mind-like powers. I would feel so powerful. Watching her identity crisis(?) arc was great too. I’ve had trouble feeling comfortable in my own skin as well as my social anxiety (I’m a mess) and I could understand how scared Megan was of her friends’ thoughts on her true form.
Oh boy. Season 2 basically ruined her. Learning what she would do to enemies was terrifying to see and left me wondering what happened to Miss Martian that made her step this far. What she almost did to Superboy was almost unforgivable. You do not try to manipulate with your boyfriend’s mind when you guys have an argument! Shame on you M’gann. If Superboy hadn’t forgiven you then I wouldn’t have either.
Good thing S3 somewhat redeemed her. Her kind heart was noticeable again and she refused to do that mind trick again (thank god). Very excited for the Superboy and Miss Martian wedding! Please creators, I beg of you to not skip over it. I want to cry my eyes out in happiness!
Tumblr media
 5. Kaldur’ahm/Aquaman/Aqualad
Now we’re in the top 5 with Aqualad (*ahem* Aquaman) starting it off.
Creating Kaldur was the best decision the creators ever did. I love him with all my heart!
He added diversity to the original team and was a great leader. S1 was not his breakout season, though the second season definitely was.
Kladur played the villain so well that he deserves an automatic Oscar. I never doubted that he was with the heroes, but he didn’t disappoint. My favorite part about Aqualad’s performance was when he rose from the ocean slowly like a cliché villain (he made it work), and the line he said right after he “killed” Artemis; it sent me chills. Love it!
Pretty disappointed that he didn’t appear as much in S3. Very happy that he is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and is in a happy relationship. I’m a part of the community and loved that there was finally some representation in one of my favorite shows. Even so, I have to criticize how rushed and sidelined it was. I hope Kaldur and Wyynde’s relationship gets development.
Tumblr media
 4. Kon-El/Conner Kent/Superboy
Like Will, I did not like Superboy at first. Mainly angry and volatile characters were never really my cup of tea. I do understand why he was upset and felt bad for him; I just handle anger the direct opposite as him. My love for Conner started growing around the end of S1. He was very sweet towards Miss Martian (bless him for not caring about her appearance) and his anger was in control.
Season 2 pretty much switched my opinions on him and M’gann. It was awful what M’gann almost did to him. That scene with him being so sad that what she did ruined that special bond they had almost made me cry. I wanted to give him a hug. He grew so much too since I don’t think he would have handled the whole M’gann drama as well in S1. A lot of furniture would’ve been broken.
I gotta admit something. I almost put Conner near the bottom (maybe no. 7). A comment in a poll in Amino changed my mind. I wrote a poll asking other fans who did they prefer SB or MM. At that point I said SB, though I didn’t think much of it. Someone (specifically yjfangirl) responded “Superboy has the best development in the show.” This had me thinking about how far SB has gone. In the beginning, Conner was an angry guy who felt alone and rejected by the person who he was meant to emulate. Now he is happier and living for himself rather than to be the next Superman. He’s getting married people! A little detail I noticed when rewatching S3 was Superboy mentioning to new characters that they weren’t obligated to be a hero because of their abilities. I adored this! The main reason why Superboy was created to be Superman if the original ever died, and another one of Luthor’s puppets. But he strayed from that pressuring path and is doing his own thing. Conner doesn’t want other people to feel like he did. What an absolute pure soul.
Also, yjfangirl, first I want to say Hi (*waves*)! Then say thanks for writing that comment. It made me really think about the bigger picture with SB and my love for him as grown exponentially. You probably didn’t mean to do that, but I still want to thank you. 😊
Tumblr media
 3.Wally West/Kid Flash
We’re in the elites now.
I don’t know how to explain it, I just love Wally. He makes me laugh, and his character growth was great. At first, Wally was this cocky flirt who didn’t take the hero work as seriously. That changed in “Cold-hearted,” one of my favorite episodes in the series. This was when I really started seeing more of Wally than being this dumb flirt. It was great seeing him actually caring about helping people since I believed for a long time that he wanted to be a superhero to just have powers rather than actually protect others. The regret in his eyes when he thought his impulsive behavior killed Perdita helped me see who he really was- this somewhat arrogant speedster who had a kind heart. Episodes that can make me change my perspective on characters are truly special.
I was very upset that he wasn’t in S2 a lot. I understand why since he gave up the life, but I was still bummed. Seeing him being so loving and protective towards Artemis was amazing. Spitfire is my favorite ship and I will not give up on them. All I want is a happy ending! The penultimate episode of S3 was a hint that it will happen. Watching the S2 finale was heartbreaking, I cried watching him disappear, his love for Artemis being the last things he said. Artemis’ reaction did not(I just wanted to hug her).
I have more to say, though I’m leaving it for another post. 😉
Tumblr media
 2.Bart Allen/Kid Flash II/Impulse
Picking between Bart and Wally for second place was tough. Took me a while to decide; I’ll talk about it later on.
The moment Bart made his appearance, I absolutely adored him. He is amazing and I live for his hyper, fun attitude. His arc and relationship with Jaime were my favorite aspects of S2. What can I say, their chemistry is great to see.
That scene when he was meeting the Flash family was so adorable. His excitement was infectious and spoiling his dad and aunt’s births was hilarious! I watch it occasionally whenever I need a good laugh or reason to smile.
Unlike most time travelers- at least the ones I’ve seen- Bart was very involved with what was going on and befriended his biggest enemy- evil and weirdly huge future Blue Beetle. He was pretty careful about disclosing very important information and took things very seriously. You never know if disclosing everything was the thing that brought the world to chaos.
What I found interesting was his choice on how to interact with everyone. He seemed pretty gloomy in the future, but decided to portray this cheerful, devil-may-care attitude to be more likable. I understood (still kind of do). I had terrible mental health issues and I pretended to be happy in front of loved ones because I thought they wouldn’t care about me anymore. Bart got some brownie points for that.
I was dissatisfied when his role was greatly reduced. I wanted the creators to go further with Bart by revealing his past and how it affected him. He was pretty much comedy relief. You couldn’t imagine how disappointed I was, especially with it involving my second favorite character. Season 4 better change that.
I know that you shouldn’t assume a character’s sexuality, yet I really hope Bart is gay. There needs to be more clear representation and Bart can be one of them. I’m also a Bluepulse and Bartuado shipper (fine with either one as long as Bart’s bond with each of them stays strong).
Anyway, I mentioned that I would explain why I chose Bart for 2nd place over Wally. It mostly stems from wishful thinking. I really want S4 to have Bart as a main character since I believe the future will be strong plot point in the season. Development could surely happen such as Bart opening up more about what he went through. Let all those feelings go.
I’m going to write an article on my hopes for S4 when a release date is announced. Bart and Wally will most definitely be talked about.
 …..
We are finally near the end!
And my No. 1 favorite character is…
Drumroll please!
..
.
Tumblr media
1.Artemis Crock/Tigress/Artemis
That’s right people!
Artemis Crock, original member of the Team and daughter of villains!
She is such an inspiration to anyone who wants to go their own past without their parents’ support.
It’s hard to describe how much I love Artemis. She’s brave, strong-willed, and a kind person. It’s crazy how great of a person she is after all the terrible things that happened to her. I look up to her because I don’t have a healthy relationship with my parents (verbal and mental abuse) and there are times I don’t feel strong enough to stand on my own. I want to carry the amount of strength Artemis has as my own.
After all that happened in S2, it was amazing to see Artemis come back to the team and train the new generation. It must have been hard to walk away from a safe, comfortable life for a chaotic, dangerous life. I admire that in everyone, but I hold more respect for Artemis since “the life” “killed” Wally. I wanted to hug her so bad.
She’s also one of the kindest people in the show, the events in S3 being the best example. When Zatanna was crying about her dad, Artemis was there to comfort her. It was so sweet! Roy and her also took in Halo and Terra like they were a part of the family; the archer treated them like the best big sister. That rainstorm scene was heartwarming to the core.
Wouldn’t Artemis be an amazing mother? Lian and her have a strong bond like a mother and daughter; I loved it, and Lian is in good hands with Roy and Artemis. Though Jade deserves a chance to be a mother. Artemis also seemed to enjoy taking care of those kids in that S1 episode. Wally too. You guys know what I’m guys insinuating. 😉
Get ready for some fanfics on that someday.
My favorite Artemis-centered episode was the second to last episode of S3. I was waiting for this episode centering around Artemis missing Wally and learning to move on. It was great yet heartbreaking. Nothing bad happened. That Will and Artemis kiss never happened. Everyone makes a mistake. No matter how terrible it was.
Anyway, seeing Artemis and Wally living their lives and having a baby gave me life, even if it was fake. It was a vision of the future. I will believe this until there is confirmation that Wally will not come back.
Did anyone else cry when Artemis was so desperate to, but Wally wouldn’t let that happen (the real Wally would do that)? They are a great example of a healthy relationship with all the love and support they have for each other. I want that.

Writing Romance: Opposites Attract
Tumblr media
One of the most widespread among romantic tropes is opposites attract, and with good reason. When a couple are opposites, they’re meant to be one of a few things to each other: 1. An inverse reflection of each other. 2. Compliment each other 3. Cover each other’s shortcomings
In a sense, a good Opposites Attract serves to turn two incomplete people into one solid force. If they’re a battle couple, they’ll tend to fight very well together, often balancing force and finesse, melee and ranged, or physical and magical abilities. If the show or book has a lot of time dedicated to foils and character moments, they are more likely to be the ones that each other lean on, since their opposing characters makes them interesting to react off one another. Their roles, story arcs, and backstories tend to run opposite or parallel to one another depending on the series. If one character’s arc is to mature and become more responsible, likely their partner’s arc might be to learn to loosen up and have fun, learn to trust people, or to face a trauma in their past that made them so mature at a young age.
In terms of design, opposites attract partners tend to be inverse in color schemes. Light and dark hair or eyes, warm and cool color schemes, clashing or complimentary fashion styles, etc. The degree in opposition also varies. Some opposites attract look very similar with only a slight difference, indicating that something small is what set them on different paths in life but are otherwise very similar, almost as two sides of the same coin. Other couples are stark contrasts with virtually nothing in common to really emphasize their differences so that they can better make each other whole, as shown very literally through the character of Garnet in Steven Universe.
Tumblr media
Femme and Butch
While typically, you’re mostly going to see this in femmeslash/yuri pairings, this dynamic is actually fairly universal. This divide focuses on a pairing where each couple reflects the values of masculinity and femininity. Although mostly used as lesbian terms, a femme and butch pairing can also be gay or heterosexual. A fashion-loving twink who cries during romantic movies dating a jock who likes sports and drinks beer is still an example of Femme and Butch. Heterosexual is rather obvious, but can also be inversed, with a tough, assertive woman partnered with a sweet, sensitive man, such as Calhoun and Felix in Wreck-It Ralph. A Femme and Butch pairing doesn’t need to check off every box on this list of traits, but these traits tend to be common in these types of relationships.
Tumblr media
Brains and Brawn
Also known as Jock and Nerd, this romantic dynamic prioritizes the usefulness of both intelligence and brute strength. Another variation is Book Smarts vs Street Smarts. The Brains will be good at doing research, organizing, and will tend to fight more strategically while the Brawn is primarily going to be good at fighting and likely protecting the Brains from serious harm. Princess and Bodyguard is another possible example of this dynamic, albeit a little less directly.
Tumblr media
Hot and Cold
Hot or Warm characters tend to be friendly, outgoing, upbeat, loudmouthed, temperamental, boisterous, and battle-ready. Cold or Cool personalities tend to be shy, calm, quiet, logical, reserved, serious, and emotionally withdrawn. However, while these extreme opposites of hot-head and cold-shoulder balance each other out, it’s worth discussing same heat relationships. Kiribaku is an example of a Hot/Warm relationship, as Bakugou Katsuki is an angry little spitfire with an aggressive streak, while Kirishima Eijirou is a happy-go-lucky sweetheart with a good attitude. This is sort of the same concept, just that both boys are on the warm side of the spectrum, with Kirishima being the cooler counter to Bakugou’s temperamental hot-head. This also works inversely, as the ship Tododeku is a Cold/Cool relationship. Midoriya is a shy, but upbeat young man who tends not to draw too much attention to himself, while Todoroki is stoic, logical, and a bit dense socially. In this case, Midoriya is Cool while Todoriki is Cold, with Midoriya serving as the “Hot” aspect of their relationship as the more friendly and outgoing of the two.
Tumblr media
Light and Shadow
This archetype is often used as a “opposite sides of the same coin” format, where the characters serve as foils to one another. In Teen Titans, Raven’s powers are dark and demonic, while Starfire’s are bright and extraterrestrial. Both girls get their powers from their emotions, but where Starfire revels in her emotions to make her powerful, Raven must suppress her emotions to retain control of her powers. As the only two girls, they stick out as the obvious foils of the group. Many times, when this trope appears, it’s in the form of Classic Paragon Hero vs Cynical Anti-Hero. Superman and Batman are a great example. Superman is a boyscout token good guy, while Batman is a brooding loner. One is the hope for justice and goodness to always triumph while the other acknowledges that people are flawed, and maybe not everyone deserves to be saved. Naruto is interesting because he has two dark reflections. The first is Sasuke. While Naruto is the golden-haired idealist who befriends villains almost as often as Steven Universe, Sasuke is a dark counter consumed by a thirst for vengeance and the power to exact it. Naruto’s other dark counter however is Gaara. Both are Jinchuriki, but whereas Naruto eventually found friends and love in his fellow genin, Gaara was very much still alone when he met Naruto, reflecting what Naruto could have become without that love and support in this life.
Tumblr media
Protagonist and Rival
Another case of “two sides of the same coin”, most anime protagonists and their rival tend to either have very similar backstories, very similar motivations, or very similar personalities, if not some combination of the three. Both Naruto and Sasuke were abandoned in the world at a young age with the Hokage looking out for them from afar. Naruto started off having nobody, and was always reaching out hoping to connect with anyone. Meanwhile, Sasuke started with a family and lost it, and decided to keep everyone at arm’s length and isolate himself further. Rin Okumura and Ryuji Suguro are practically the same person. Both lost their families and homes due to Satan, both are strong-willed loudmouthed tough guys with a knack for leadership, and both share the goal of killing Satan. Natsu Dragneel is immature and battle-ready, but while Grey Fullbuster at least pretends to be above it, he’ll jump into a fight with Natsu practically unprompted. The main appeal of the anime protagonist and his rival is that they push each other to succeed, often coming from very similar roots, but where they end up is entirely up to the effort they put in and the path they choose to take. They both refuse to lose to each other, and that propells them to constantly want to out-do each other.
Tumblr media
Sweet and Sour
My best friend and I are polar opposites in this sense. When we met, she was far too trusting, submissive, and far too forgiving. Meanwhile, I was a lot more cynical, mean-spirited, and unfortunately, a little more closed-minded than I’d like to admit. After five years of friendship, my friend is far more assertive, has a lot more confidence in herself, is a lot better at handling criticism, and rather than just submitting in an argument, she now has the nerve to get in someone’s face and make her point heard. Because of her, I’ve become less stand-offish, more patient and polite, less of a control freak, more aware of valuing other people’s emotions, and more tolerant of a group I hadn’t realized I’d been intolerant toward. We saw the world in such distinctly different ways that we have managed to rub off on each other, and now we’re both such stronger and more complete people for having known each other.
Tumblr media
Serious and Goofball
A classic comedy duo, the comedian and the straight man. The Goofball character tends to be immature, a knucklehead, a jokester, and comes off as a bit inexperienced. Meanwhile, the Serious character tends to be mature, responsible, disciplined, but comes off as a bit aloof. The Goofball reminds the Serious character to have a little fun every once in a while, while the Serious character reins in the Goofball before they hurt themselves or somebody else.
Tumblr media
Hero and Sidekick
The hero has their act together and the sidekick is just doing their best. This happens a lot in Action movies where the handsome tough guy and the hapless damsel (who he kidnaps a little too often for my liking) is just kind of along for the ride. The two live in entirely different worlds. Sometimes this comes in the variant of Starlet and Manager where one in the relationship takes center stage while the other is content to help them run their life, promote their career, and help them. Another variation is Superstar and Random Extra, wherein one person leads a very visible life in the public eye being adored by millions of fans while their partner works 9-5 in an office dealing with insurance claims. Although they coe from very different worlds and lead very different lives, that doesn’t mean they still haven’t found love in an unlikely place. Often, the reason the hero or big shot loves this random nobody is because they fell in love with them before they ever became famous, or they didn’t know/care who the celebrity was and just liked them as a person without interest in using their celebrity to climb the social ladder.
Tumblr media
Loud and Quiet
She’s quirky, outgoing, bubbly, energetic, and talkative. Too talkative. She never shuts up. He’s quiet, simple, down-to-earth, and calm. Too Calm. He never gets excited. This pairing works to push and pull each other until they’ve harmonized. The Quiet one will be pulled out of their shell and learn to be more open and talkative, while the Loud one will learn to think before they act. This couple is divided along lines of Introversion and Extroversion, and together can navigate the anxiety-triggering unease of a social gathering, and finding joy and pleasure in just enjoying each other’s company without needing to fill the silence with pointless chatter.
Tumblr media
To be fair, many Opposites Attract couples will fit into more than one of these archetypes, and there’s probably more I didn’t list. But if you’re wanting to create a couple that balances each other out, I hope you find this helpful to you in your writing.

Haunted (Request)
Paring: John Constantine Protégé (reader) x young justice
Synopsis: It’s basically the episode, “Haunted” from Teen Titans where Robin sees Slade but he isn’t there but it’s with the reader
Notes: Y/F/C = Your Favorite Channel
Warnings: None
Word Count: 2336
Tumblr media
           Constantine had told you to be extra careful after you had returned from missions or what he liked to call, hell bound adventures with him. You’d always been, it was part of the job of course. That didn’t mean however, that sometimes, something would go a bit ... awry.
           You were crashing on the couch after getting back from a mission with your teacher. John Constantine was a different kind of person to everyone, but for you he was like a weird uncle or estranged father figure. You had just gotten back from cleansing yourself of anything that might attract some sort of negative spirit or energy into the cave. He lectured you on that before you two had come in through the zeta beams. You rolled your eyes thinking of it as the remote that you were using made the tv flip to new channels every few seconds. You passed Conner’s favorite, static, and then made it to your own favorite channel Y/F/C.
           It was some time before the team had come in from their own mission. Kid Flash was the first to greet you as he sat threw himself over the top of the couch to sit down by you.
           “Hey beautiful.” He said making you cringe internally.
           “He- get your hands off of my popcorn Wallace.” You said without looking at him, instead opting to keep your eyes on the screen.
           You felt him scoot over some at your tone. He knew not too touch your food, especially after missions. The one time you did share, everyone was half dead and happened to have stuffed a few snacks in your pockets. You only looked up when you heard the rest of the team walk near the living room and kitchen.
           “How was your mission with Hellblazer?” Artemis asked sitting down on the floor next to you.
           “It was ... long.” You replied with an exasperated sigh, “Honestly, I could use a nice movie night for once.”
           “I second that.”
           After a few minutes, everyone was showered and in pajamas. Bean bags, pillows, and blankets were strewn out in every square centimeter of the living room and a movie was underway. The movie was a nice distraction from the night’s events. You almost had this fear that if you looked away, you’d see something that you didn’t want to. It was a fear that you finally told yourself that you needed to face in order to enjoy your night as much as you possibly could. It was a fear that came true the moment you took your eyes off of the tv. You didn’t have to squint to see the massive black figure lurking in the shadows. It stared back at you almost daring you to move. You sat still, tensing up some after looking to see if it could be anyone that wasn’t sitting by you at the time. Then you confirmed it, the entire team was accounted for and the shadow was moving closer to you.
           “Everyone get to the mission room!” You yelled out making the rest of the team jump.
           “What’s wrong?” Robin asked standing up.
           “Don’t ask just go!”
           It was a known fact that if Constantine’s kid was telling everyone to get away from where they were, you left. The team sprinted off to where you told them to go as you rushed into the kitchen hold your hand out in the general direction of the being and chanted something that only you could understand. The cage that you put the spirit in wouldn’t last for long and you knew that. That wasn’t the point though, right now, you were after paint, and a marker. Once you had those items, you ran into the briefing room where missions were given out calling out protection spells and scribbling the corresponding symbols on the walls with the permanent marker. The rest of the team looked on in horror as you ran closer and closer. They couldn’t see what was quickly trailing on behind you, but they knew that if you were this panicked, it must be something serious.
           “Move together in a group.” You instructed running around them with the salt, “You know the drill, don’t touch, move, blow on, don’t do anything with the salt unless I say so!”
           “Y/N, there isn’t anything there.” Robin said looking around.
           “I can’t even sense anything.” M said crossing her arms some.
           “I know you can’t, that’s why you have to stay here.” You said drawing symbols around the circle, “Someone get a hold of Constantine, I’m a bit preoccupied at the moment.”
           You stopped and looked behind you seeing the shadow coming closer and closer to the door, “Shit!” You hissed standing up, “Take these, if anything happens and you have to leave the salt circle, make sure you have these around your neck. Don’t let anything happen to you.”
           You handed each of them a necklace with a protection charm on it, “It’s after me, so, in theory, you guys should be fine unless it kills me.”
           “W-wait... Kills?” Wally asked making everyone turn and stare in the general direction you were looking.
           “Precisely my dear Watson.” You started chanting something again before yelling out in pain clutching the protection tattoo over your arm. There appeared scratches much to the horror of the rest of the team.
           Blood dripped down slowly and in smaller amounts than you expected it would. The heat off of whatever scratched you seemed to have cauterized most of the scratch, that wasn’t a good sign.
           “What do you want?” You asked in a different language that was foreign to the rest of the team, “Whom do you seek?”
           “The blood of Constantine.” It replied.
           Now you knew it was after you. You had the blood of Constantine, at least with being his kid and all. That was when you started running. Your bedroom would be the safest place for you right now, just not the team. The team wasn’t typically allowed in your room because of everything inside of it that they were not ready to be around at all. Some of the things might cause them nightmares, others a state of delirium that you had been trained to be accustomed to. There, in your room, you had the spell books needed to vanquish whatever was after you.
           You knew that the team probably wouldn’t be able to get a hold of your mentor. The communications were probably down by now. If anything happened, there would be no one there to help you. Not even Zantana was here. She would be nice to have around right about now. Then again, almost anyone with skills in magic would be helpful to have around right now so that wasn’t saying too much.
           You had to run through the living room and kitchen once more. The shadow was right on your tail when you turned around to see if you could find it. The moment you did, it disappeared.
           “Damn it!” You murmured before turning around, wide eyed at what you saw about to run into you, “Should have remembered eyes on the roa-“
           The shadow picked you up. You didn’t expect it to be able to do that. Maybe scratch you a bit, but certainly not lift you off solid ground. Kicking and thrashing around seemed to be doing nothing for you at that moment. The being laughed at your antics before lifting one of its claws to your cheek and slowly cutting into it drawing the smallest amount of blood. You screamed out in pain, all the while trying to articulate a spell to put distance between you and the shadow. It did its job and the next thing you knew you hit the ground running. The stumble and fall didn’t hurt that bad at the moment, you had too much adrenaline in your system for that kind of common pain.
           You slid into a different hallway and then down one more before getting into your bedroom and shutting the door. There was no need to make protection spells in here since they were already there. As quickly as possible, you ran to the book shelf and started trying to find the book Constantine had always told you to use if something like this had happened. You found the book, a navy blue leather bound book with old paper and tarnished gold details. Opening the book on your bed, you flipped through it rapidly trying to find the page needed for the spell that you were about to cast.
           Once you got to the correct page, you saw that you’d need something to give you some time. It involved a few different things to make it work, all of which you could do quickly with some other spells, but not fast enough to keep yourself safe.
           “M? Can you hear me?” You asked over the mental link.
           “Loud and clear. Are you alright?” She asked.
           “Not the best but there’s no time to complain about it, listen if you can, I need you to do something for me.” You said, “It’s dangerous and if you don’t want to do it, I’ll think of something else but you should be fine with the protection charm I gave you.” “I need you to fly out of the salt circle, as in, don’t touch it. Then will you go into the hallway outside of my room, looking like me and lead it to the zeta beams. Go as fast as you can on that part. On my signal, change back into yourself and go invisible. I don’t want you in sight during this part. Get back to the salt circle.”
           “If you think it’s best, I’ll do it.” She answered after a few seconds of silence.
           “Good. Now go.”
           After a minute or so, you felt the shadow following something else. Your plan was working and all you had to do now was beat the two into the room entrance. You took a different route that wouldn’t be anywhere near were the two of them were and once you were in the right place, you dropped to your knees making the correct markings on the floor and setting candles around it. You had done this countless numbers of times, but now that this thing was threatening your only real family, it felt a bit personal. You stood up once M announced to you that she was entering the room. You hid behind Conner’s motorcycle and at the right moment, leaped out in front of it telling M to leave.
           She did as you instructed leaving you to finish the spell. You felt your energy draining more and more as it got closer. You were leading it right where you wanted it, but that didn’t mean it couldn’t hurt you. By now it had scrapped you up a bit. There would be bruises in the morning considering you made it to then.
           The shadow laughed at your pain, lifting its hand to knock you into a wall. You grunted in pain before stumbling back onto your feet, not letting it break your concentration. You dodged a flying wrench and then screwdriver before feeling a sharp pain on your leg. This thing was toying with you now, trying to get you to drop the spell. The intensity of the spell ended up making the lights flicker on and off, finally killing them. You felt multiple cuts forming on different parts of your body. That was when you caught it. It tried to keep moving but was now stuck in the symbol that you drew. You smiled some suddenly having a bit more energy and hope that you’d finish. With confidence, you ended the spell. The sound of the high pitch screeching made you hold your ears closed in pain. You fell to your knees before telling the team that it was okay to come out. The lights came back on and the last thing you remember was a bright white light and then silence.
“Come on kid, wake up.” You felt someone shaking you awake. The voice sounded familiar but panicked like if you didn’t open your eyes at once, they’d lose it.
Under you, you felt the concreate of the cave floor. It wasn’t the best feeling in the world in the slightest especially with your aching bones. Around you, you felt multiple people, none of them to be evil. Then, slowly, you blinked your eyes open, light flooding your senses before you were adjusted.
“I-is it gone?” You asked rubbing your head hearing the sigh of relief from your mentor.
“It is.” Constantine said helping you up and catching you as you stumbled over, “I didn’t think you’d be able to handle a demon of that size. I’m impressed you did, but you need rest.”
“How’d it get in?” You asked looking around some to see the team fully intact.
“I’m still figuring that out right now Y/N/N. The ole bastard didn’t stand a chance against you though”
“Y/N, are you alright?” M asked not really wanting to come closer to you with John there.            You nodded, “Yeah, I’m fine.” “Are you guys okay?”
“We’re all fine Y/N... w-what was that?” Robin asked, “None of us could see whatever it was that was here, it seemed to just be you.”            “It was a demon. Must have followed from my last mission away from you guys. You couldn’t see it because it didn’t want you to. It was after me, but once it got me, I’m sure it would have gone after all of you.”
Constantine stayed a little while longer to help make sure that there was nothing else there. You told him that it was after him which wasn’t unheard of at all but he needed to be more careful than he typically was for a little bit. After he was gone, the team dragged you into the living room where you promptly fell asleep during a movie.
           This was fun to write. I find it funny that two people kind of had the same idea, that was pretty funny. Anyways, I hope you guys liked this one and are having a great day. I’m going to still try and post even with my laptop gone but that all just depends on what happens. I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy and have a wonderful week and rest of the day!

This drawing took forever to complete, but I am pretty satisfied with how it turned out. The first version is one without shading and second is it the one with shading added. (The quality is better if you click on it.) I came up with the idea after rewatching the old Justice Ducks’s episode, as well as being imspired by DT17’s “Let’s get Dangerous!” special and listening to the classic Og teen Titans theme on repeat also sparked a lot of imagination. The only outfits I didn’t come up with are Lena’s, Boyd’s and Louie’s which already exist the show. I thought about each kids’s strengths and personalities when designing the other costumes as well what kind of powers/roles they would play and what kinda relationship they would have with their super mentors for this au.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• First up we have everyone’s favorite sassy magical teen, Lena. Her magical girl type outfit is what used for her hero costume. I tried my best to get the colors right so I hope it looks good. Lena’s role on the team is The Magical Brawler, with her using magical energy blasts, as well as allusions and brute force to defeat her opponents. She also doesn’t have a hero name like the others and just goes by Lena. (This is mostly because her magic protects her secret identity or something.) She and Quiverwing are the snarkiest towards the villains, especially if their evil plans are really stupid.
• She acts as a cool older sister figure to other kids on the team and is one of the most proactive on the team, with her answer to fighting a villain usually being “let’s beat them up” which can sometimes land her into trouble if she’s not careful. She’s very protective of Webby and Her younger (adopted) sister, Violet. So word to the wise evil doers, do not under any circumstances attack/harm either girl or you will be in a world of agonizing magical pain.
• Being oldest on the team as well as one of the most pessimistic/emotionally guarded at times, she tends to be a little more jaded to the whole hero worship thing the other kids have going towards The Justice Ducks. Her mentor/teacher is technically Morgana Macawber. In the beginning she was very distrustful towards the older magic user due to the woman’s past actions as a villain, as well as Lena’s own hang up’s with Magica. However, She eventually warms up to the sorceress after she sees how while having questionable morals at times, is still a good person who genuinely cares about her and Vi as not only her students/sidekicks, but her surrogate kids as well. (Morgana definitely joins the ‘these aren’t technically my kids, but I’m adopting them. You can’t stop me club.’)
• After that, their relationship starts to get better, but Lena still has her more rebellious impulses which causes her to be a bit more difficult when interacting with her mentor. She will argue with her about things like “Seriously! Why should it matter if my magic is still ‘developing’?! I can totally handle my Own magic, thank you very much! Now let’s stop gabbing and take down this creep before he overruns the whole city!” (Stuff like that.)
• Let’s move on to Webby or as she’s better known in the crime fighting world, Gummi Gal! So, it was a little difficult to figure out what kinda hero she would be, but after i decided to go with combining her spy training with her gummi juice powers, from “From the confidential files from agent 22” everything else just clicked. (Please note that I’m vaguely familiar with original gummi bears, I’m going off of ducktales 17 interpretation of it so if I get anything wrong, that’s why.)
• First let’s talk about the costume. I wanted to give her something that showed her personality as both a trained combat and espionage expert, as well as a excitable sweet munchkin who loves glitter and friendship bracelets. I based the colors off her regular pallet and added the cherry red parts to allude back to the gummi berry juice. The costume is made from super rubbery stretchy protective material either invented by S.H.U.S.H, prier or Team science to keep our super adorable rubber ball of death safe from villains when her gummi powers wear off, while also giving her a boost in battle while trying to beat up said baddies. Her red bow is the same material as the outfit, I gave her a pink mask, cause that’s her favorite color (also I wanted her to have a different mask color from Gosalyn and Huey.) and her utility belt is filled with other gadgets as well extra vials of juice in cases of emergencies. Not to mentioned she finally got her own Action Cane and still has her trusty grappling hook if things get too crazy.
• Webby’s role in the team is definitely combative close ranged fighter and The Heart of The Team. She’s already a beast in hand to hand combat, but when she drinks her gummi berry juice, she becomes a unstoppable springy force of power and agility, that can really give the villains a headache. She’s the most encouraging and affectionate on team always giving her fellow teammates hugs or high fives whenever she can. Her biggest weakness has to be her willingness to trust people at their word, being a little naive to harsh truths of the world cause she wants to see the good in others. She’s a badass, but an idealistic at her core and just wants to make the world a more happier place.
• Webby’s hero mentor is the Moon’s greatest warrior, Penumbra. Penny is at first confused by Small Della’s odd abilities, but adapts pretty quickly. They train a lot together and Penny teaches the young earther tricks she picked up from living on the moon where the gravity is very different from earth. This helps Webby get better at controlling where she wants to bounce when using her powers. Penny is pretty protective of all of the small Dellas and will be pretty aggressive towards those who try to harm them.
• Huey was easy I just made him updated version of his Gizmoduck costume with more of an emphasis of protection and practicality. I decided to give him a mask underneath his visor, because I believe he would definitely wear it as an extra precaution so villains don’t figure out his secret identity. (Even though it’s pretty obvious who these kids are, if you’re any paying attention.) I added a magnetic electro pulse glove blaster (sorry if the science doesn’t make much sense.) as well as magnetic boots, so he can better stay on Boyd’s back in battle and flight. (I was mostly inspired by Hiro from big hero 6 for that.)
• He uses the blaster to send magnetic frequency waves at his enemies. He can also grab things from a distance as a nod to his safety first mindset. His role on the team is occasionally the leader (there’s a bit of conflict with that issue.) and most importantly the thing he prides himself on, The Strategist. He’s great at analyzing situations and coming up with strategies, but can still over think things to his detriment. He clashes the most with Louie on the team as he feels his brother isn’t taking his role very seriously and Gosalyn as she not the best team player. He still looks up to Gizmoduck as his mentor, which drives him to prove himself as a competent leader and crime fighter in his hero’s eyes. Finally his hero name I think would either be Pulse or Gizmokid. Mostly I’m leaning on Pulse, cause I think it distinguishes him from Giz and let’s him make a name for himself as a hero in his own right, not just stuck in someone else’s shadow. (Though the bad guys will probably just call him, Gizmobrat to spite him.)
• (With Boyd I had trouble with getting his coloring just right so if it looks off, that’s why.) Boyd is the technically the youngest on the team in both appearance and mentality. He’s a sweet precious totally real boy that everyone instantly loves...well almost everyone. Louie, is at first a little heistent to be around him, but knows what happened at Doofus’s party wasn’t his fault so doesn’t hold it against him. He’s one of the easiest to trick out of the whole team which makes prime target for scheming villains to mess with. However, don’t underestimate this little powerhouse or you’ll regret it. He’s closest with Huey, with him being the first real friend the little tyke has ever known. (Dr. Gearloose is more of a parental figure then anything.) They can often be seen coming up with plans or just having fun learning stuff together. His hero mentor is Gizmoduck as well, but he also quickly warms up to Gandra. (who may or not be a anti hero in this au.)
• Gosalyn’s/Quiverwing’s costume was little harder to figure out. I kept going back and forth from a modern vs classic look, until I finally settled on a compromise that felt right. I do wish I made the cape more like Darkwing’s and drew a more modern looking bow, but other then that I think it came out pretty good. Her logo I’m especially proud of. Her role on the team is definitely the sharp shooter archer and weapons expert. I like to think she’s kinda like what if Batgirl was a archer. She likes to come up new weapons and gadgets to use on the bad guys. She’s the second oldest after Lena, making her also an older sister figure to the younger kids. Her mentor is Darkwing Duck, she loves being his crime fighting partner, but wishes she get more chances to really show her stuff and not be babied all the time by her guardian. This causes her to be one of the first kids to disobey the adult heroes when they say to stay out of something. Like that will stop her.
• Dewey was the hardest when designing what kinda hero he would be. At first, I thought of giving him a magical legendary sword that could change forms depending on what was needed, sorta as a way to mirror Dewey’s creativity and ever changing interests. However, I also felt he shouldn’t need to be ‘chosen’ by something to be a hero, so now the sword is actually something that he had to have create himself, but it also happens to be a magical shape-shifting weapon?.... (honestly if anyone has any better ideas, please help me, I totally except suggestions.)
• I gave him a costume similar to his God of Dance/Champ Popular personas with a blue Darkwing inspired cape. (Admit it, Dewey you actually love the show!) I added some protective chest armor, also gave him a angel wings and stars motif. His hero name if haven’t already guessed is Daring Dew. His role on the team is kinda the wild card/funny guy as well as a lancer to the more focused sometimes leader, Pulse. If I had to give an example of his role then probably something similar to beast boy from Og teen Titans or The flash from the justice league. He’s usually the first one to try and lighten the mood when something goes wrong, but he has his moments of Insecurites that causes him to doubt himself.
• He’s unique case as he doesn’t really have a official heroic mentor and just kinds bounces around from person to person depending on the day. Not that anyone dislikes the kid, but because he just finds them all so cool that he can’t pick one. (Basically, you know how your favorite avenger changes every week, it’s kinda like that.) He gets along best with Darkwing though and is kinda like his unofficial second sidekick. However, he does love spending time training with The Duck Avenger. He does seem familiar though, he just doesn’t know how. Hymmm. I wonder why.......
• Violet was also a tough one. Do I go with tech based weaponry, superpowers, space themed or magic? Nonetheless, I decided to combine her junior woodchuck survival skills and her magical quick study abilities to make her sorta of Magical Green lantern with an alchemist twist. I wanted to give her own way to do magic without having to use Lena’s powers or Magica’s emulet as a crutch. Her book on her belt is an ancient spell book filled with mystical runes and incantations that she uses to create magical contructs like weapons to battle her opponents. I gave her a teal green cloak, (mostly cause I was inspired by OG raven Teen Titans) a teal mask to hide her identity, light teal gloves and a rune turquoise stone that help channel her own magical abilities when she using her spell book.
• For her hero name I kinda like Light Saber (Disney technically owns Star Wars, so they could use the name.) or Guidelight (kinda like play on her junior woodchuck guide book.)
• Violet is the supernatural expert and living encyclopedia of the team. Something tells me she would do extensive research on all the justice Ducks’s known villains and would keep record of all of the info she gathered on the subjects. I have a headcanon that after “Let’s Get Dangerous” happened in this universe she would watch hours upon of the old darkwing Duck show while taking notes to better understand the full extent of the fearsome four’s backgrounds and abilities. Morgana, like Lena is also her hero mentor. They get along pretty well. She loves learning new spells from older sorceress who is more then happy to help the other with her knowledge on the subject.
• finally last, but never least, Louie! First off I drew him in his simple green hoodie with a dress shirt and tie. (Kid is pretty lazy when it comes to heroic theatrics.) His role on the team is The schemer and self proclaimed, Young Justice Ducks manager. Louie doesn’t really go by any alias and doesn’t wear a mask, cause in his mind there’s not much of point since no one really take them seriously anyways. They’re the kiddie sidekicks club in a lot of people’s eyes, so they don’t get much media attention compared to their mentors.
• If he’s not ‘training’ with his mentor, Storkules, or just hanging out with his teammates, then he’s scamming villains out of their stolen loot or finding new ways to try and get the Young Justice Ducks name out there. He probably takes the whole being a hero thing the least seriously out of everyone on the team, mostly because the adults are always their to save the day and take all the fire, so why not focus on building a solid following and use their obscurity to their advantage against the villains. ( To be honest I really couldn’t figure out what kinda hero he would be. I think maybe later on he could regain his godly gold touch powers, though much more limited this time with them being on a timer of or something. If anyone has any better ideas for him, please send them my way)
Anyways, thanks for reading. Again, if you have any suggestions, questions or ideas please feel free to share them. See ya!

Colony of Gotham (7/7)
The Colony of Gotham is an urban legend that is whispered about in the dangerous city. It’s said the Colony is a family of demons and spirits that stalk the night, hunting for the souls of the guilty.
When Bruce became Batman, he’d never intended to be mistaken for a demon. He was happy to lean into it, though, and as he gained his partners – as his family grew – they all followed suit.
First Part ~ Previous Part
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once Tigress had escorted Flash and Young Justice to the Watchtower and had calmed everyone down, she explained that the Colony was not, in fact, malevolent.
She told them that the family was simply territorial of the area they protected. Their actions had just been them making their point in their typical chaotic and playful way. She and Flash had encountered some of the Colony the night before and after assuring them they would continue to keep their business out of the city, the bats and birds had agreed to a truce. The Flash's kidnapping was just Flash wanting to get in on the joke. He was meant to show up that night with a figurative olive branch from the Colony, but then Young Justice had rushed in and the Colony reacted in kind by capturing them. They then informed Flash so he and Tigress could return them. The team was reprimanded for rushing in without backup and Flash was given extra monitor duty as punishment for his trick. He accepted it graciously, having expected it.
When they made it back to Gotham, Dick explained Damian’s past to Artemis and Wally. The latter was not pleased to discover the young boy he’d been teasing and calling cute for years was an assassin.
“He might be a former assassin, but he’s still adorable.”
“No, Dick, you don’t call people who can and will slit your throat if you upset them adorable. You could have warned me! I nearly died!”
“A lot,” Jason added from off to the side where the rest of Dick’s siblings were watching the show with popcorn.
“Damian wouldn't have actually killed you,” Dick argued.
“Maybe just maimed you a little. But hey, you heal fast.”
“Not helping Tiny Jay,” Dick hissed as Wally pointed at Tim and nodded.
“Maimed! I could have been maimed! Just because I heal fast doesn’t mean getting maimed doesn’t hurt!”
“Dami never meant to kill. Dami only meant to maim or seriously injure,” Carrie croaked from right behind the speedster, causing him to jump with a shriek.
“No voice filters in the manor,” Dick huffed at her before turning to his siblings as a whole. “Guys, please stop traumatizing my partners!”
Artemis, who until this point had been pinching the bridge of her nose, looked up with a murderous expression. “YOU STARTED IT!”
When Bruce and Selina returned from their honeymoon, the kids explained what had happened.
Bruce would never admit it, but he was proud of how the kids handled the situation. They ensured the other teams wouldn’t interfere in Gotham and limited the amount of information that got out about them to people who were already trusted. That said, he would have preferred they had taken the situation more seriously, which he made sure they knew.
No matter how amusing the recordings Barbara had shown him of the heroes’ reactions were.
He also would have preferred no information got out about them, but he knew it was only a matter of time for those who did find out. Young Justice was just a little too invested in Tim’s wellbeing, not that he was complaining, so they were sure to notice something eventually. As for Wally and Artemis, he’d been waiting for this since they’d found out the family’s other secret.
Selina had bet the engagement announcement would happen first, but he knew Dick wouldn’t have agreed without all secrets coming to light first.
He was a little less forgiving of the rest of the kids taking this as permission to tell their friends.
He wasn’t too annoyed with Damian as Jon had already suspected there was something different about the family (he was too much like his mother) and he mostly excused Stephanie and Bette seeing as Cassie already knew, which meant they were more likely to mess up in the group chat. He didn’t say anything to Barbara, partly because she wasn’t really his (no matter how much he cared for her) and partly because she’d somehow managed to convince Hank and Dawn she was still a demon.
He did have talks with Dick, Jason, and Carrie though. Kory might have been a friend of the family for longer than Jason had been a member (as Dick had been quick to point out in his defense), but they hadn’t been as close since the breakup. Artemis Grace tended to be a wild card in regards to her loyalties and her team had a looser grasp on the law then most others in their business (Jason took offense to this, of course, even if he didn’t object). As for Traci, they simply didn’t know her (No, Carrie, a two day round trip does not give you plenty of time to know a person. No, I don’t care if you managed to convince her you were a demon. Barbara’s situation is different!).
There was a bright side to this, though. The mix of information that the heroes had ended up causing a few amusing situations.
One such situation came up a few months later when Tim, Stephanie, and Bette were hanging out with their friends at Mount Justice. Bette offhandedly mentioned to Cissie that Damian’s mother was part of “the League” right before the three Gothamites got called away. This resulted in Cissie, who thought the Robins were human, gossiping with Roy, who thought Robin was a demon, about how “Batman totally knocked up someone in the JL and Robin’s the result.” This resulted in Oliver, who’d been eavesdropping, ending a League meeting by asking if anyone knew who’d spawned the Bloody Robin. The information reached anyone even remotely connected to the League within twenty-four hours.
The Colony just sat back and watched the accidental chaos, obviously.
The most common theory was Wonder Woman, though no one was willing to suggest it anywhere she might hear. One of Hawkgirl’s past lives was also a popular theory, and she was horrified when she realized she couldn’t be sure it wasn’t true.
It came to a head when the Titans decided to have a get together of current and former Titans and Teen Titans. Guests were allowed, so Kory and Roy invited Artemis Grace and Bizarro. Assuming the event would be boring and wanting to either have someone who would lighten it up or be bored with her, Artemis only agreed to come if Red Hood came too. To the horror of everyone not in the know, Kory not only agreed, but decided to extend the invite to all the younger members of the Colony.
Nightwing and Robin arrived first with Tigress and Flash, the older bird arm in arm with Tigress while the younger was sitting on Flash’s shoulders. Both gave too wide grins as they waved at the Titans and Teen Titans who were already gathered. Robin dropped limply off Flash’s shoulders and hit the ground in a roll before running off to drape herself over Thirteen.
Batgirl, Hawkfire, and Lark arrived next with Cassie and Donna, to the latter’s obvious discomfort. They were quickly joined by Cissie and Kara as Donna went off to greet her friends. Batgirl took great joy in disappearing and reappearing around the room, while Lark took great joy in selling her out every chance he got since he could always see where she was. Hawkfire was equally thrilled to use the voices of anyone who got near, having made sure to study up on as many people who’d be at the party as possible so she could mimic their voices.
The rest of Young Justice arrived shortly later with Superboy, Corvid, and Robin. The last surprised most of the people who’d already been there, until they realized Robin was no longer at Thirteen’s side despite many being sure she’d been there only a second before. Throughout the party Robin seemed to disappear from Thirteen’s side, only to reappear across the room at Superboy’s within a second. Some even swore they’d seen Robin in two places at once, but no one was ever sure. Meanwhile Corvid’s speech pattern had him sticking close to a member of the Colony or Kory so they could translate for him.
No one was exactly sure when Black Bat and Bluebird arrived. They were simply there, hovering around some of the others or hidden off in a corner. No one ever seemed to notice Black Bat come or go between groups either. She always seemed to just be there.
Pythia had been there from the beginning, but she mostly just kept to herself, watching and listening through the cameras, until Hawk and Dove arrived. Then she whispered at them through the nearest speaker. This meant the two mostly stayed off to the side on their own, but neither felt any need to complain.
Roy, Artemis, Bizarro, and Red Hood arrived after the party was already in full swing with no reason for being late other than a joke from Roy about being fashionable. Red Hood had a similar experience to Corvid, though Kory could not translate for him while Artemis and Bizarro could. Artemis had placed a comm into her ear for the occasion, but not even the Colony could explain how Bizarro managed to always know what Red Hood was saying.
Despite the Colony’s eccentricities, the party went smoothly.
Until someone brought up Robin’s heritage, at least.
The Robin with Thirteen snickered when she heard and disappeared into the shadows. Corvid, who had also been near, shook his head and let her slip under his cape as he headed towards where Kon and Lark were talking.
The debate began to spread until Beast Boy huffed and turned to Bluebird. “So who popped out the demon spawn?”
The room fell silent and a few people gave him terrified expressions before glancing at the Colony. The shapeshifter squirmed, not having meant for his voice to be as loud as it was.
The thing was, every Robin had been referred to as a demon spawn at multiple points in their lives, and Black Bat had had the title thrown at her a few times too. As such the group couldn’t help themselves.
With eerie synchrony, Dick, Stephanie, Bette, Duke, Damian, and Carrie all answered, “My mom.”
Most noticed that Jason, Tim, and Cass had all answered as well in growls, trills, and sign language respectively, which only added to the confusion or horror everyone in the room was feeling.
Those who knew the group to be the Wayne family and associates were confused about why they had all answered, and why answer like that as they had thought their friends had separate mothers. Didn’t they? Those who knew they were not actually demons were also thrown by how the group had managed to speak as one.
Meanwhile those who knew nothing were terrified as they came to the incorrect conclusion that a member of the Justice League had somehow managed to spawn most of the Colony without anyone finding out.
The Colony refused to say any names, but otherwise most of them were happy to answer questions about their mother. This really only managed to confuse people more, however. Especially when people would get conflicting answers. That was near always, really, as Nightwing was describing his mother; Red Hood was describing Catherine Todd; Corvid was switching between his mother and Selina; Batgirl was switching between her mother, Kate, Selina, and Talia (the middle two purely for the amusement and the last for the looks she’d get from Robin whenever he caught her at it); Hawkfire was describing her mother; Black Bat was just gesturing for Bluebird to describe her own mother; Lark was describing his mother; and both Robins were describing Selina (though Damian would later state it was purely for the consistency with his fellow Robin).
It was only after the party when the Colony, Young Justice, Tigress, Flash, Starfire, Artemis, Arrowette, Supergirl, Superboy, and Thirteen retreated to the cave that anyone got a real answer.
“Oh, Dami’s mother is from the League of Assassins, not the Justice League. There must have been a mix up somewhere.”
Surprisingly, this did not bring relief to anyone. Especially when they found out his mother was none other than Talia al Ghul.
One calm day, Artemis dragged her partners down to the cave’s sparring mats so she could see what Dick could do firsthand. He did not disappoint as he quickly pinned Wally.
“Well, this explains why Jade seems to like him so much,” the speedster muttered from his place facedown on the mat.
Artemis frowned as Dick sat next to their boyfriend, patting his back. “Wait… Oh my God, Dick! You sa-Is tea code for getting your butt kicked by my sister?”
Dick looked up with a sheepish grin. “No, tea is code for kicking your sister's butt.”
“You…”
He shrugged. “In her defense, she wasn’t expecting someone with my level of training. The fight would have been much closer if she had been.”
Wally looked up with wide eyes. “Hold on, she actually tried to kill you then?”
Dick gave Artemis a look. “You probably should have told her we were together. She thought Wally had cheated on or dumped you. I thought it was actually kind of sweet, really, but Bruce was ticked when he found out and I think Jason was considering hunting her down.”
Artemis threw her hands in the air and marched off. She dug her phone out of her pocket.
“‘Ello?” Jade’s sleepy voice answered.
“You tried to kill my boyfriend!”
“Oh, you found out about that?”
“Why didn't you tell me he could fight? And well enough to defeat you.”
“You didn’t know? Why did you think I approved? I don’t approve of the speedster and he has powers. He really needs to learn how to fight without relying on them.”
Artemis could admit she had a point on both fronts, but wouldn’t admit it. “Dick’s sweet and charming. I swear if he had a superpower it would be making friends. I just thought he’d made you like him.”
“Yes. By being a competent fighter. Although if he’s going around bragging about defeating me I might need to teach him a lesson, being brothers with an al Ghul or not.”
“Wait, you knew about his brother being Ra’s al Ghul’s grandson too?” Artemis choked.
“You really need to pay more attention to who you’re dating.”
“Who’s dating the brother of an al Ghul?”
Artemis blushed. “Is that Roy? Are you two still together?”
“It’s complicated. And before you freak out, we were just sleeping when you called. Actually sleeping.” Quieter, likely from holding the phone away, she heard Jade say, “Artemis is. Her little Gotham squeeze has league connections.”
“Jade,” Artemis hissed.
“League. You mean Damian? Of course he’s… Hold on!” There was some static and then Roy was talking directly into the phone. “I’m coming to Gotham.”
“No.”
He came to Gotham. He showed up right on the porch of Wayne Manor hours later looking more excited than she’d seen him in years.
“Please tell me Damian Wayne is who I think he is,” he said as soon as she marched up to where he was waiting outside. “Please tell me he is because I need to know if everyone has been freaking out thinking Robin’s the kid of Wonder Woman when he’s actually Talia al Ghul’s spawn.”
“Please tell me you didn’t ditch my sister to come here,” she shot back, glancing around to be sure her sister wasn’t hiding in any shadows.
“She took off after we had morn-”
“Nope. Shut up.”
“So is he?”
Artemis glanced over her shoulder to see Wally and Dick watching. Dick shrugged and she sighed. “You can’t tell anyone.”
“I won’t. This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I’m not ruining it. So Jason is Hood.”
“Yes.”
“And Dick is -”
“Yes.”
“This is amazing.”
“If you get yourself shot don’t come crying to me.”
“I’d die happy. You haven’t heard the things Ollie and Dinah have been saying. This is the best inside joke I’ve ever heard and I hate you for keeping it from me.”
“I only found out after the Titan party last week.”
“That’s an entire week where you kept me out of the loop.”
“You want to come in for food or are you going to go track down my brother?” Dick called.
Roy shrugged and they started for the door before his eyes widened and he glanced between the three. “So that stuff about Flamebird?”
“He was just messing around to tease Wally and freak out the League. Just like everything he and his family have done since Zatanna dragged them into the spotlight. That’s how I realized he was Nightwing. They are exactly the same level of troll.”
“I love everything about this.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Are you sure?” Dick asked.
“Absolutely not,” Wally said, but grabbed the blood bar Dick was holding out anyway.
“If you don-
“We’re fine,” Artemis said, grabbing her own bar. “Wally’s just whining like usual.”
“I’m just saying, we have no idea how this will affect me.”
“Duke’s a meta and he was fine.”
“He’s not connected to the Speed Force.”
Dick reached forward to grab Wally’s bar. “You don’t have to -
“I want to,” Wally said, jerking the bar away, grabbing Dick’s hand with his free one. “I do. I’m just nervous.”
“As per usual,” Artemis teased and kissed the speedster's cheek. Dick stepped closer and she kissed him as well before pulling the wrapper off her bar. She met their eyes, then took a bite.
She began to sway as she finished it so Dick helped her over to the bed. All the while Wally tossed his bar between his hands. He pulled it open and frowned down at it.
Dick pulled him to the bed once Artemis was settled. “It’s alright if you want to back out. Neither of us would blame you.”
Wally shook his head and sat down. “I want this, I do. I just can’t stop thinking about what could go wrong. Like, what if my body already burned through whatever it is that’s supposed to turn me.”
Dick cocked his head and slipped into his lap. He leaned down to nuzzle Wally’s neck, earning a sharp intake. “I can bite you while you eat it. Then your body won’t have time.”
The speedster shivered and swallowed. His free hand came up to card through Dick’s hair as he gave a quick nod.
Smiling, Dick peppered a few teasing kisses across his jugular before biting down.
Wally shivered again and melted into Dick for a moment before bringing the bar up and taking a bite. He finished it off quickly as Dick pulled away.
“It doesn’t taste like blood,” he said with a frown, tossing aside the wrapper as he licked his lips. “I don’t know what it tastes like, but it isn’t blood.”
“That means it’s working,” Dick said.
“Really?”
“You think Stephanie would have downed an entire bottle of blood by accident if she could taste it the same way a human does?” Dick pressed a kiss to the corner of Wally’s mouth. “Blood has a special flavor to us unlike anything else.”
Wally hummed and kissed Dick until his mind started to fog up. Dick helped him lay back then covered him up when the fever took him.
The bird took a moment to just stare down at the two, his thumb brushing the band on his left ring finger.
It was made from strips of black and gold titanium twisted together with rubies peaking through the cracks. It matched the one on Artemis’s hand, gifts from their wonderful fiancé.
Dick gave both a quick peck then left them to rest.
Things were sure to get crazy soon enough, especially once the announcements went out, but for now, Dick would revel in the calm and the feeling of family.

Introduction
The Legend of Korra is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender. Set 100 years after the original series, Korra presents a world on the verge of the modern, mixing the fantasy elements of the original series like bending, spirits, and the Avatar cycle itself with the cityscape and technology inspired by cities such as Shangai and Hong Kong in the early 20th century. While I’m sure someday I’ll come back to take a look at the story of the show proper for a video, the series itself offers plenty to think about in terms of world-building, characters, and design that can serve as inspiration for other works.
In particular, our titular character Korra is a particular delight – at least in my opinion – mixing a strong sense of bold confidence and headstrong stubbornness with a good sense of anxiety about the place of the Avatar in an increasingly modern and technology driven society. This is represented by the shows major antagonists who at least attempt to provide some kind of ideological challenge to her and the broader society. It’s just the right kind of storyline to tickle the fancy of someone like myself, and makes me wonder: how would I play Korra in a tabletop game?
Yes, in this video and broader series I’ll be taking a look at some of my favorite characters in media and try and figure out how to best represent them in some of my favorite tabletop roleplay systems. Why? Well, one, I like tabletop games, and two, the process of doing so can sometimes help to really think about the character. And that is particularly true in my choice of system for this video: Masks: A New Generation.
Description of Masks: A New Generation
For those of you unfamiliar with it, Masks is a Powered-by-the-Apocalypse game system inspired by teen superhero team stories such as Teen Titans or Young Justice. Like all PBTA systems, Masks relies on the concept of “moves” to drive the narrative rather than skill checks like Dungeon and Dragons. Rather than a choice of class and race, character building centers around the choice of “playbook”, with each playbook representing a different character archetype commonly seen in teen superhero stories that also serves as a metaphor for the many struggles teens face as they come into their own. For example, “The Beacon” playbook, inspired by characters like Stephanie Brown or Kamala Khan, is based on the archetypal ‘hero fan’ who leaps into action, excited about being a hero but is seen as maybe being out of their depth or not serious by their peers or the adults whether it be due to lacking powers or a personality unfitting of a “real” hero.
Since this isn’t meant to be a full breakdown of the Masks system, we’ll turn our attention to the second page of your standard playbook page, where we get to the real meat of a playbook: Labels, Moves, and Extras.
Labels are the main stat of Masks, and for those interested in greater mechanics are meant to constantly be shifting throughout the game as each label represents how your character thinks of themselves. The five labels are Danger (representing “I’m threatening and strong”), Freak (representing “I’m strange and unusual”), Savior (representing “I defend and protect others”), Superior (representing “I’m smart, capable, and crafty”), and Mundane (representing “I’m human, empathetic, and understanding). Each playbook has different distribution of these stats. The Beacon, for example, has high Savior and Mundane, encouraging these characters to be sort of the “heart” of the team through their empathy and willingness to defend others.
Next we have the “moves” section. Moves are, effectively, story beats and tropes associated with that archetype, giving each playbook unique ways to affect the story. The Beacon, for example, can use “Suck it, Domitian” to dramatically fight back against a powerful enemy while under fire by using their Savior stat instead of Danger when rolling the move “directly engage a threat”, a basic move that’s basically the “punch a bad guy” move. You can think of this as representing the moment where the little guy stands up to the big guy to defend others.
Finally, most playbooks have an Extra mechanic, a unique additional game system to further encourage a particular storyline. The Beacon’s extra is “Drives”, which is basically a list of “cool stuff that heroes” do like kissing dangerous people, taking down threats, or getting a new costume that, if completed, give a variety of game bonuses. This encourages a Beacon player to basically do as much wild and crazy stuff as they can, all in the name of really getting the “superhero” experience.
Taking all this in mind, deciding what playbook a character should be, the primary focus is less on the powers and abilities and more a question of “what playbook gives you the experience of playing out that character’s personality and story line?” After all, the powers section are, ultimately, suggestions, and a good GM is usually willing to work with you if you don’t quite like what’s offered as long as the powers contribute to the playbook’s story.
The Bull Playbook
So, then, what playbook works best for Korra? As I noted earlier, one of the central struggles that Korra deals with is figuring out the place for the Avatar in the modern world and living up to the expectations of  people have of her based on past Avatars. After all, the previous Avatar helped end a 100 years war, helped found Republic City, and has a giant statue of himself in the bay. That’s some pretty big shoes to fill for a 16 year old girl.  She’s also very head strong and ready to rush into action, especially in the first season where she struggles to learn airbending because her personality clashes with the element’s focus on evasion and counters.
Based on her personality, a potential first pick is the “Bull” playbook. Inspired by characters like Kent Connor (Superboy), the Bull playbooks plays on the archetype of ‘superweapon designed by a shady organization who now struggles with intense emotional volatility’ , representing the intensity of emotional regulation during adolescence. From the high Danger label to moves like “Punch Everyone” which lets you raise it even further if you charge into a fight without a plan, the playbook is all about rushing in and punching stuff, hard. It’s Extra mechanic, The Bull’s Heart, further brings into focus the emotional aspects, asking you to pick a Love and Rival to give influence to and gives a variety of potential benefits when interacting with them. The Love is supposed to be the character your character opens up to about their struggles, while the Rival is the one who infuriates you and maybe tries to control you. They’re the “Megan and Robin/Aqualad to Kent Connor” type deal. And the best part is who is who can shift whenever you want, because who you trust and who makes you mad can turn on a dime when you’re an angry teenager struggling with your emotions.
However, I don’t think it quite works as a playbook for Korra. Again, at face value there is some merit: her background of being trained in a compound fits the “created by an organization” aspect, and her personality is very direct and forward. However, The Bull’s Heart mechanic relies a lot on what other players make in terms of characters, and unless you’re team is up for doing an “all Avatar” game, you do lose out on the fun of a potential “Asami Love / Mako Rival” like setup, diminishing the fun of playing Korra specifically. And in general, while she has a personality that sort of fits, the main source of anxiety and character development for her is less about her coming to better control her emotions through the relationships she make but her coming to terms with what it means to be the Avatar. That focus on being a part of a long lineage of similar figures is a better fit for a different playbook: The Legacy.
The Legacy Playbook
“Kid Flash”, “Robin”, “Green Lanterns”, the Legacy playbook draws upon all sorts of variations of the same basic idea: a super-hero who is part of a longer lineage and cause who now has to determine what kind of hero they’ll be under the weight of tradition and expectations. Now, doesn’t that sound just about perfect for a character whose major development is driven by, well, figuring out the role of their own lineage in a modern world whose previous incarnation literally has a statue in the city? If you want the experience of being Korra, I think the Legacy playbook is the best choice, but let’s break it down even further.
The first thing to notice about the Legacy is it’s abilities section is a bit more in-depth, requiring you to pick a suite of powers and then cutting you off from two of them to represent that you still have a lot to learn. If you really want to get the Avatar feel, talk with your GM about creating a unique suite: each Element plus one additional power gets you your five powers, and simply pick Airbending and…I don’t know, spirit bending (?) as the other one you don’t have at the start. But only do that if you really want Korra word for word. Otherwise, pick whatever you like!
Turning to our Labels, we can see that the Legacy starts with higher Savior and a bit of Mundane, which encourages them to focus on defending and being responsible for others while also being emotionally available and understanding. Considering the Avatar’s role as a protector and bridge between human and spirits, and Korra’s very genuine skill in empathy, these stats are a good start. If you absolutely want to, maybe take your starting +1 into either upping Mundane a bit more or maybe into Danger, to help get a bit more of that headstrong vibe she has.
In terms of moves, the Legacy gets to start with two of them. In my personal opinion, the most “Korra” starting moves would be “Words of the Past” and “Symbol of Authority”. Words of the Past allows you to seek guidance from elders or past members of your legacy, and grants you either a bonus to your rolls if you listen or get potential if you go your own way. This is a good way to mechanically do the “consult with past lives” aspect of being the Avatar. “Symbol of Authority”, meanwhile, allows you roll Savior when you give an order to an NPC based on the authority you command as a Legacy, giving you some options for dealing with NPCs by invoking your status as “The Avatar”: [Avatar deal with it clip].
Through advancements you get two more moves, and I’d probably pick “Fight the Good Fight” and “I know what I am.”
“I know what I am” is pretty simple to explain: when you defend a team member you can shift Savior up and another label down and then add 1 Team to the pool, something that can help your teammates if they come up short on a roll and keep your Savior high. This is an admittedly a more mechanically beneficial choice then necessarily story, but it does also encourage you to defend your teammates and encourage teamwork, which is always nice.
“Fight the Good Fight” is meant to tap into Korra’s tendency to hold back and want to save people, even her enemies. While not struggling with the idea of killing like Aang did, and the show in general is pretty okay with killing its villains, Korra does have a very strong sense of empathy and, when possible, does try and restrain but not kill her antagonists. This can be seen in her fight with Kuvira, where she could very well have killed her…but chose to reach out to her instead. This move I think will help you play out this empathy by making it easier to restrain and defeat enemies, at the cost of not being able to impress, surprise, or frighten them.
You might also choose “Never give up, never surrender”, which gives you additional combat options when fighting someone more powerful than you but, well, you’re the Avatar: probably very few beings that are more powerful than you. Now, that’s something that is very campaign dependent, but I think the other choices are more reliable in terms of how often to use. Similarly, the problem with “The Legacy Matters” is it provides bonuses when dealing with members of your legacy which…well, let’s talk about how to do the Avatar with the Legacy’s Extra Mechanic, “Legacy”.
As a Legacy, you come built in with a history and expectations, and whenever time passes you have to roll to see how well you’ve been doing on upholding it and how much benefit or trouble you’ll have to deal with. You are required to have at least two NPCs related to your legacy running about. The tricky part of being the Avatar is, well, there’s only one at at time due to the reincarnation cycle. As such you lose out on the “active and prominent” and “next possible member” of your legacy. If your GM is okay with it, you can use a past Avatar as your “retired and quite judgmental” since death is kind of a retirement in a world with spirits. As for your “greatest opponent ever faced”, well, you do kind of got this giant dark spirit Vaatu who wishes destruction on the world so…pretty straightforward. Actually, guess you could use Raava as previous member as well. Again, up to you, but these limitations are also why I didn’t recommend “The Legacy Matters” as you have a rather limited pool of NPCs to interact with. It’s too bad Tenzin technically doesn’t count for this…or heck, maybe your GM’s nice and you can throw him in for the active and prominent (and quite judgmental) because he is otherwise perfect for the role.
Now, if you liked Bull Korra don’t worry, as a Legacy you get at least one move from another playbook as part of your advancements as well. “In a China Shop” lets you always get at least one thing from “directly engage a threat” at the cost of environmental damage and collateral, “Thick and thin skinned” lets you get a bonus to unleashing powers while Angry, and “There when it matters” lets you bank a defend someone roll to show up onto to help them out later. Other moves you might consider include: The Beacon playbook also offers a lot of good options for Korra. “Pretty Much a Superhero” which lets you pull the “I’m the Avatar” thing a lot more in a way that gives possible benefits and costs, as well as the previously mentioned “Suck it, Domitian” for more heroics under fire energy similar to “Never Give Up, Never Surrender”. Naga, Korra’s animal companion, can be represented by “C’Mon Lucky”, which lets you have an animal companion that helps you out on some of the basic moves like “Directly Engage”, “Assess the Situation” etc.
Finally, with some creative application and GM permission, the Outsider’s “Belong in Two World’s” move could be used to represent the Avatar’s role as the bridge between the human and spirit world, allowing you to communicate and gain some help from the spirit world, but at a cost. It’s reliance on the Superior label could be a problem, however, so keep that in mind.
Now, this isn’t all the potential moves you could use, but just some initial ideas to help you think about what are the core characteristics of Korra and how that translates into things that she does. If you’re familiar with Masks, feel free to offer your own suggestions for moves in the comment section.
Conclusion
The world of Korra and the broader Avatar series is a fascinating one, and even after all this time still continues to inspire me with ideas for stories and characters. Korra in particular is probably one of – and perhaps my favorite – character of the franchise. Her struggle to figure out what the role of the Avatar is in an everchanging world is I think a very interesting story, and while the show may not have always presented the best antagonists, well, it’s sometimes worth taking something into your own hands and giving it a shot. I hope this episode of “How Do I Play?” gave you some ideas on how to take play a character like Korra in what is probably my favorite system and maybe even gave you some insight into her character. If you got a character you’d like to see imported into a system like DnD or Masks, please let me know in the comments and I’ll see about taking my best shot at importing them somewhere.

First, I hope you’re enjoying your game.  One of my friends posted about how she’d just gotten her copy of it, and her husband’s response was basically “so, I’ll just bring you food occasionally and see you in a few days?"  Also, I hope you’re feeling better.  And man you are KILLING ME with these previews.  Oh god, Peter, what are you planning now?  How bad is this gonna hurt and for how long?  (Don’t answer that, I’m afraid to know. XD )
I think all those Hogwarts Houses are excellent choices.  I always think it’s fun to see how people sort various characters, because I rarely have any that I feel are firmly one House (maybe it’s because I’m a proud HuffleClaw, myself, doomed to waffle between Houses every time I take a quiz or read an analysis on the subject.)  Side not - can you imagine the furor that would have occurred about a Slytherin and a Gryffindor hooking up in Fourth Year (I think?), and then pulling an innocent little Hufflepuff transfer under their spell?  Would any of them have played Quidditch?  (Peter I feel definitely played, though I can’t decide what position.  Undecided on the other two.)
Poor Peter, having to behave himself.  Although debatably as long as he kept the fangs put away it wouldn’t necessarily be a risk, though I can see him being worried anyway.  That’s why he needs to find someone to spin his fur into yarn he can then make them scarves/gloves/sweaters/etc with.  And why he’s so into the clothes sharing.  Anything to get his scent on them as thoroughly as possible.
And I am so here for PTA Dad Peter.  Helping out at school functions so he can keep an eye on the younger kids.  Building new, supportive relationships with his older kids, helping them with college applications and essays, making up lists of stuff they’ll need for dorm rooms, finding apartments if any are going to the same or nearby schools and can share, making sure they all have pictures and mementos to help combat homesickness.  And now I’m thinking about the memory quilt again.  Goddammit I don’t want to make myself cry.  Again.  "Imagine Peter hearing their heartbeats for the first time."  Oh nevermind, I see you’ll do it for me.  Ugh, my feels.  Peter shifting to his wolf form and curling protectively around them all the time, head pressed up to their abdomen so that he can listen and scent at maximum effectiveness.  Them just gently stroking through his fur until one or both fall asleep.  (Also, how quickly do the other wolves in the family pick up on the changes in scent?  How do they react?  How do the older kids react to the idea of more siblings in general?)
And you know that whichever one wasn’t the one pregnant at the time would be super protective at the time, then turn around and insist they were fine and that the others were worrying unnecessarily when they were the one pregnant.  (Also, glad your brother was okay!)  I also like that it apparently took them nearly 20 years to learn about planning for this sort of thing.  I know you’ve mentioned Peter and Chris being the ones that do the stupid thing next chapter (or something to that effect), but really I feel the biggest moment of "what the hell, guys?” is Noah getting knocked up just two months after Chris.  It’s like, you guys had a huge, in your face, live example of why protection is important, and yet…  I’m also just going to assume that they have at least a king size bed to accommodate that many people, even if many of them are tiny people, and none of them mind piling.  That’s still a lot of bodies cramming into one bed.  (That much room would also come in very handy for…other reasons, which is why I feel certain Peter would insist upon it.)
Also, omg, I was not expecting to be attacked by those pictures like that.  Tag your porn, dude XD .  But really, can you imagine the poor, unsuspecting college friends their kids bring home for visits getting a triple barrel of that with no warning?  Like they’ve just seen the goofy, weird pics that they have on their phone/on their walls.  They were not prepared for the sheer DILF power of that household live and in person.  But then, is anyone, really?
Loving all the names.  I actually know a guy named John who has a son named Jackson, so that one was particularly amusing to me.  I also noticed that none of the kids have been named after anyone in Noah’s family, at least so far.  And don’t worry, I wasn’t expecting to have those spoiled yet, though I’m happy to know you liked some of my suggestions :D .  Now if I could just remember which all ones I went with…  Didn’t really think to put it in anywhere, but for some reason I’ve always liked Alexander as a middle name for Peter, though I remain undecided on the other two.
And yes, loving the idea of more family cosplay.  Oh god, they would never get ANYWHERE at a con because they’d be getting stopped every 3 feet for pictures.  For Star Trek, I feel like they’d do groupings from assorted series and versions.  Chris, Peter, and Noah are totally OS Spock, Kirk, and Bones (Peter with strategically torn shirt, of course).  I think Melissa would be their Uhura, and Natalie would be Yeoman Rand (she wants to see if she can fake the hairstyle), because I dare anyone to tell them they can’t pull off dresses that short.  Since he has sword training from his hunter background, Melissa makes Julio be their Sulu.  Boyd, Derek, and Jordan would be Picard, Riker, and Data (Derek would totally figure out how to do that weird way Riker sits down, too.)  After much debate, I feel Stiles would be Kirk from the recent films (NuTrek, or whatever they call it), Jackson would be Spock, and Malia would be Bones.  I think Lydia would make an excellent Uhura for them, as well.  Scott would be Scotty because he can remember to answer to it, and it gives him an excuse to do a TERRIBLE fake accent.  I’m leaning towards Isaac for their Chekov, but beyond that can’t think what to do with everybody else, I’m not familiar enough with the different tv shows.
Marvel we’ve talked about some.  DC I have a few random ideas.  I always thought it would be funny to see Peter, Derek, Jackson, and Liam do the assorted Robins.  While I feel Peter is DEFINITELY more of a Jason personality wise, I think he’d be far more comfortable in Dick’s costume that Derek would be, and if Derek was Jason the heights would line up better.  Jackson would be Tim, and Liam would be Damian (because who else would play DC’s tiny and angry than TW’s tiny and angry?)  Also, don’t overlook the fun and variety of villains DC offers.  The last group costume I did was a cross between Bill & Ted and assorted Bat-villains.  We called it Bruce & Dick’s Excellent Adventure, and even photoshopped a sign to carry to help people get it.  Among our line-up was Cleo-Catra, Ivybeth the First, The Poison Queen, Harley Antoinette, Joker Napoleon, Freud Nygma, and Bane-thoven.  (I really need to do something with the various pieces of my costume someday.)  I know there are several girls in the Bat-fam now, too, depending on who all wants to be a part of it, or if they want to skew more Justice League/Teen Titans/Young Justice.
Oh man, Disney.  So many options.  I feel like Lydia and Allison as Ariel and Prince Eric is a given.  I also like the idea of Kira and Malia as Belle and the Beast, partially because of Malia’s issues about having to hide her nature, and also because I think she could absolutely rock that suit.  Ben could join them as Chip.  (Stiles would actually make an excellent Belle, but I feel that might just get weird.)  I can see Danny helping Erica rig up a Sleeping Beauty dress with strands of LEDs that keep shifting from pink to blue to green so the dress keeps appearing to change color (it’s a massive hit.)  I don’t know why, but I really want Stiles and Jackson as Elsa and Anna for some reason.  Scott can join them as either Kristoff or Olaf, depending on the mood he’s in.  Can’t quite decide for the other pack kids.  Since the theme is nominally just fairy tales, I think the dads could just opt for a classier, fancier version of their Red Riding Hood looks.  Maybe go for a steampunk edge or something (I would have included links here, but Google was not my friend today and I couldn’t find quite what I wanted.)  Rich velvets and wools in vivid scarlet and forest-y greens, black and deep brown leather and suede, lots of polished buttons and buckles, loose cotton shirts unlaced at the throat.  Mmm, yes.  And Peter could have one of those super fancy Victorian type nightgowns with the long sleeves and high necks made out of super soft and fine materials.  Instead of getting some kind of mask to wear, he’d just do his partial/beta/whatever you want to call it shift and let them add extra fur on with makeup to blend it in.  Everyone just thinks it’s amazing effects work.  He does opt for some cute wolf paw slippers since cons tend to get snotty about people going around barefoot.  (Applying and removing the fur is also how they learn his ears are particularly…sensitive…to a delicate touch in that form.)
Lord of the Rings.  Yes.  Like, I can’t figure out who or any real details right now but.  Just.  Yes.
I feel like some years they enter the costume contest and some they don’t, just depending on their moods.  (They totally take the Jurassic Park group to a con and people adore it.  It makes for great skits.)
Random bonus thought for the day concerns dancing.  I was thinking about the whole drag queen thing, and whether Jungle was around in the 90s, and it sort of segued into what types of dancers they are.  I feel like Peter is a very good dancer.  Not quite competition level, maybe, but very skilled, nonetheless.  Like Malia, he’s just very comfortable in himself, in all forms, which helps with spatial and bodily awareness, in addition to his natural grace and balance.  I also feel he’s the most likely to have taken, like, ballroom lessons or similar as a kid, maybe at a parent or grandparent’s insistence.  With Noah I keep thinking about the various videos I’ve seen of Dylan dancing both outside of TW and as Stiles, and I feel his dad would have a very similar style of awkward disaster from the chest up, undulations worthy of a harem girl from the waist down (those Stilinski boys tend to leave a lot of confused boners in their wake.)  In Noah’s case, settling into his frame after that last growth spurt and learning self-defense/martial arts helped smooth most of the awkward out, but it resurfaces every so often.  Chris I think would be the least likely to dance, just because I feel his background would make him very self-conscious about it, whether he wants to feel that way or not.  He’ll dance if it’s just the three of them or just family, or for a slow dance, but that’s normally it.  However, if he’s drunk enough, or if Noah or Peter have dragged him into a dark corner to makeout for a while and gotten him all distracted and relaxed, he can be pursued out onto the floor to show off some actually pretty sweet moves once he lets go.
Anyway, gonna try and wrap this up, because I just realized it’s way later than I realized, and I should try and get some sleep at some point.  Enjoy your game, I hope it’s epic!

When this little paragraph made me realize I had a gaping plot hole in this chapter and I got to go back to fix it. My god my friend, you are a lifesaver!
I also like that it apparently took them nearly 20 years to learn about planning for this sort of thing.  I know you’ve mentioned Peter and Chris being the ones that do the stupid thing next chapter (or something to that effect), but really I feel the biggest moment of "what the hell, guys?” is Noah getting knocked up just two months after Chris.  It’s like, you guys had a huge, in your face, live example of why protection is important, and yet…
Because oh yeah I wanted to make it canon that wolves can detect a heartbeat of the embryo at 4-5 weeks. Which is about a week after the heart starts beating. And oh yeah, Chris is two months along by the time Noah gets pregnant... shit. I wrote something else in that flashback.
And now I got to fix that, so cheers!
Tumblr media
I also finished writing my chapter today! Yay! All glorious 13K of it. And I’ll be editing and posting tomorrow (or technically later today as it is past midnight.) Oh, I’m so excited, I’m so excited to see what you think!
As for the game, my god it is awesome!!! I played a few hours today but my heart raced so much I had to pause after two hours because I was getting dizzy because of my heart. But it’s a great game so far, very accessible and it just draws me in completely. It’s so good.
Definitely what I needed after my day at work.
hehehe I’m happy to see my previews and writing and getting emotions, it sounds so bad, but that makes me smile because it’s getting the desired response and that’s awesome.
“Cue Lego Movie music”
can you imagine the furor that would have occurred about a Slytherin and a Gryffindor hooking up in Fourth Year (I think?), and then pulling an innocent little Hufflepuff transfer under their spell?  Would any of them have played Quidditch?  (Peter I feel definitely played, though I can’t decide what position.  Undecided on the other two.)
I think Peter would’ve been a chaser or beater, somehow those seem to fit him well. Noah played but he was a keeper. (which would be funny if Peter was a chaser since they would get to battle lover’s disputes on the quidditch pitch) Chris I feel wouldn’t play quidditch, he’s too busy trying to keep track of his studies and really just likes to watch the sport but not participate. I think he’d be more into care of magical creatures and defends against the dark arts than any kind of sport. Though he does join and excel at the dueling club.
And the scandal of Peter and Noah dating from fourth year on would be massive, people can barely wrap their heads around it. But they’re happy and they’re just doing their own thing. And they don’t pay attention to anyone else but what they think and what Chris thinks of them.
<3 <3 it’s honestly an adorable image. The twins are very active when dad’s curled up around them, knowing just where to kick so Peter’s wakes up by a foot to the face. Though he doesn’t mind and just nudges back gently, letting out a low grumbling noise or whine that he knows the babies can hear in utero. As for how quickly, it depends on whether or not they smelled it before. Jackson, Ben, or Scott wouldn’t pick up on it. They weren’t wolves around pregnancies before. Malia and Derek catch on quickly though. They start noticing the scent change at around 5-6 weeks and hear the little heartbeats of the new family members.
Malia is moderately excited, she’s a little worried about her dad and how he will handle pregnancy at his age. (Although he’s like 35 when he gets pregnant, that counts as a geriatric pregnancy, dad... I’m worried.)
Stiles just flips between the two of extreme worry where he read up on pre-eclampsia and other pregnancy complications and birth complications and omg what if that happens. But he’s also so so excited because omg he’s finally gonna be an older brother!!
(He knows he’s Ben’s older brother, and he adores the tyke, but it’s different when you have a pregnancy close instead of a five-year-old sibling from one day to another.)
Jackson is pouty and a bit grumpy. He feels like he’s losing baby status in the family more and more and he doesn’t know how to deal. (Ben was a bit difficult to get used to for him but Chris handled it well by setting time aside for his baby Jackson. It helped. But now he’s a teen and there’s going to be two more babies and he’s- he doesn’t know how to feel. When Chris breaks the news he wants to have another baby he’s even more torn but he does come around, deciding that he will always be the baby of the family, even when he’s not.
It’s a good compromise. And the three parents set some time for each of their kids so everyone gets attention.
Allison handles it the best out of the teens, she’s very excited for all of them and immediately to volunteers helping with decorating the new nursery. She paints a few awesome looking murals of Winnie the Pooh or Bambi or some other cutesy Disney animals (Or maybe even a space/star wars or a fairy tale ala Fables theme?) and just goes all out. She also convinces Malia to quilt a blanket for the new baby and helps her knit a few cute hats. She’s just extremely excited and happy.
Ben is very happy too, he’s finally not the youngest anymore and he’s happy to be an older brother. He also finds it fascinating to learn how pregnancy works and how those babies got in there in the first place. They let him tell them how it works and explain some basic details, sperm, egg, you need both to have a baby and the baby grows in pops and papa’s belly. But they leave out any details that Ben doesn’t figure out or doesn’t ask about to keep it more age-appropriate for him.
Though Ben’s smart and he figures out a lot on his own. Noah and Peter are honestly impressed by Ben’s deductive skills. They knew Jackson and Stiles had them, but they hadn’t expected Ben to show them too. He’s a quiet observer.
They were not prepared for the sheer DILF power of that household live and in person.  But then, is anyone, really?
Honestly, I don’t think anyone is. Nobody can resist the sheer DILF power.
I- this whole thing? yes. Headcanon accepted because it is that good. I can literally just see them going in steampunk hunter, red riding hood and the wolf. thank you for putting that image in my mind XD
Malia definitely inherited Peter’s dancing skills, I like to think Jackson did as well. Those three are the best dancers in the family. They just move with natural ease.
Allison is a decent dancer, her gymnastics training really helps but she’s not as fluent as her brother, sister, or dad.
I feel like Noah and Stiles have awkward flailing down to a T but every once in awhile there’s a hip movement worthy of a fucking professional dancer and it’s very confusing. But yeah, totally agree with that assessment of them.
Chris isn’t much of a dancer and neither is Ben. Both of them are very self-conscious. Chris gets better when he’s drunk because he let’s go of insecurity but even then it’s not great. He just doesn’t dance, it’s not his thing. Although he was a very good grinding and hip rotation move. He’s also pretty good at jump style once he lets himself go and just turns his mind off. but the rhythmic jumping just feels natural to him. He also likes to slow dance since he can just bury his face in Noah’s shoulder or nuzzle Peter’s cheek and just forget about everything else.
Also, I like to think they all love to sing. Chris’s voice is best suited for country I feel like. Noah’s more for singer-songwriter. And Peter just loves singing pop songs and he knows how to hit some high notes.
And now I am going to bed because It’s almost three am XD And I need some sleeps. Thankfully I have the day off this sunday.

So, you wanna switch bodies with Conner Kent / Kon-El / Superboy? Here’s some basic information for the event.
The Physical (and Powers) Stuff:
— Stands at 5 feet 9 inches (or 175 centimeters), and weighs 150 pounds (or 68 kilos). That’s normal for a toned teenage boy, right? — Looks like a 17 year old. Is actually like 5. — Prefers the name Conner Kent over Kon-El. Only certain people can get away from calling him “Kon”. Superboy would also work, considering he doesn’t have any civvies (civilian clothing) at the moment. — Undercuts are cool, right? — Can fly for 30 minutes. A Day. He hates that he can’t access his full array of powers (see app for full list of powers). — Unfortunately, doesn’t know Kryptonian besides a few phrases.
The Emotional (and Personality) Stuff:
— Tries his best to be a good guy. He's also “related” to Superman’s arch-nemesis and doesn’t want that to define who he is. When interacting with Jon — and only when interacting with his "little brother" — he asks himself “What would Clark do in this situation?” and does the thing. — Has anger issues, can be arrogant, and has a high opinion about himself. But also very focused. — Highly protective over his friends and people he loves (which are like a handful of people).
The Memories Stuff:
— Genetic clone of Superman created by Project Cadmus, a scientific research center, to replace Superman after his death (see the Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen storylines). — Superboy: Hero of Hawaii. — Krypto is best dog. Ever. — Founding member of the Young Justice, alongside best friends Tim Drake and Bart Allen. The Teen Titans are pretty cool as well.
The Extra Stuff:
— I really don’t know what to put here, but Conner is pretty much your average teenager. Can be defiant. Hates listening to authority figures. Wants to always fight someone. — I have some icons, but I really don’t use them. You’re welcome to ask for them and I’ll link you to the source.

Revelations and Truths
So it’s been building up to this moment, the first encounter between the Teen Titans and Mary Grayson the Talon. This story here is based upon “Mary the Talon”, “Mission” and “Investigation” so i highly recommend those stories before immediately going for this one.
WARNING: this story contains blood, gore and scenes unsuitable for little children. Parental Discretion is advised.
Also I would like to thank @lightdusk  and @nightglider124 inspiring me to make this story come true. If you have requests and ideas for future story, please ask it would be very appreciated. :-)
Prologue: May 6th, Location: Unknown
“Arise.”
She was rose amongst the voice she had heard.
“You have shown excellent progress throughout the years…and yet we could not fully grasp your trust in us.”
“Master, if I may, my missions have been successful upon the first day I have taken my oath upon thee and further more…”
“Silence”
She fell into silence. The vision however began once more as the Master spoke. Words flew through her eyes, and deep into her mind, no her very soul.
“Mama, m-Mama d-d-Daddy? Please be okay. Please”
Mary unintentionally began breathing heavily. Her Little Robin was calling out to her. He needed his Mama and he needed her now. A crack bounced across the Labyrinth as the Master strikes his whip on the ground in order to gain her attention.
“Dear Madam, have you blocked your ears from hearing these graceful words of your trust in us?”
The owl dressed woman quickly nodded to the Master’s question as more of that young boy’s voice began to pierce her soul.
“Mama, are you hurt?”
“Mama, please be okay!”
“Just hang in there, Mama! The doctors are going to help you and Daddy!”
“Mama…I Love you”
“…Love is a weakness”, The Master concluded.
The Talon had realized whose Love was told by her Master was weak, her love for Richard, her love for her husband John….her love that comes with being a mother…was a sign of her being weak?
“It is not.” Mary speaks.
The master behind his Owl mask has his eyes widen “What WAS THAT?”
Mary raises her head with her glowing goggled eyes staring in spite towards the gathering of Owl masked men and women before her.
“Love builds strength, Love binds one’s soul with the souls of others, and Love should NOT be treated as weak.”
A much younger man with an Owl mask speaks right behind the Master jokingly, “It appears we have upset Mama Bird here”
That foolish man seals their fates however, for with those words uttered, a dagger that was on the top of Mary’s knife belt suddenly found itself into said man’s throat in a matter of seconds, with precious red fluid immediately leaking profusely. The other Owls couldn’t help but feel a sense of horror at the grisly sight.
“Why yes, Mama Bird is quite upset. My personal advice is….RUN.” Mary says this as the two mini swords strapped to her back suddenly became within her hands as she begins to dash towards the platform the rest of owls sit upon. Before Mary can climb the ledge however, a massive man dressed in similar albeit different owl-like uniform arises, knocking Mary on her feet.
“Mary Lloyd, the Masters have sentenced you to death.”
Mary with a tiny smirk coming on her masked face whereas the Owls flee simply responds, “You are talking to a dead woman so I’m afraid that sentence is rather moot.”
Jump City, about two days later.
It was a seemingly calm night for the city as children rushed to their beds and the parents prepared for the next day at work. The street crime was relatively low for the night as the villains hadn’t planned any major scheme threatening the city or even its banks. Nonetheless it was nights including this one in which even the slightest of criminal break-ins can happen.
This was a possibly one family in the city’s richer districts takes note of as they lock their doors with extra bolts hoping to prevent the criminal scum of the city from reaching their wallets or perhaps more importantly their daughter when they’re asleep. However, in the midst of locking the final bolt, two distinct eyes of their servants, the Talon, are seen in a relatively close distance. Obviously, the fellow Owls have sent the Talon as a messenger. With such both parents take their white Owl masks as the Talon enters their home.
Perfect, Mary thinks with her feet barely stepping unto this couple’s front door. They do not expect or even have the slightest clue of what had happened with the rest of Jump’s Owl Nest and how most either fled back to Gotham or more commonly met the nasty end of her blades, both short and long. Her new ‘mission’ was a simple one: let the Court know now of their precious talon has finally realized who she is, why she is the way she is, and takes into account of all the lives slain by her hand and all the other talons. Now she demands one simple choice to them: leave the innocents in this City and these supposed heroes called Titans alone or suffer the terrifying consequences with her blades. Now it was this family’s to see that first hand.
“What news from the Court?” the woman of the two asks.
The Talon at first remains utterly silent.
“Speak quickly” the woman’s husband asks.
“I must first ask”, Mary says while keeping her voice mostly subdued in which should make sure they do not recognize her, “is your daughter well informed of our ways?”
“Oh, most certainly Yes”, the woman says with utter glee in her voice, “she will be delighted to meet a fine servant to our cause like you.”
Mary couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disgust in that statement since during her indoctrination into the Court, many children, especially girls, cheered in joy as her torture in the Labyrinth played on, as if this whole thing was one giant game to them. Thank God almighty, Richard never was friends with these….monsters in his time at the circus. On a quick note, where is Richard at the moment? Mary can only pray that he’s safe, at least under police protection since it was a crime scene, not really an accident that happens on that one performance at Gotham.
But yes unto the matter at hand with these savages….
Meanwhile…
Robin had just completed his sixth turn around within the ghettos of Jump City. This city in which he had been living in since about 3 years ago has done much to him within that amount of time. From his first crook to catch robbing the banks, meeting Starfire and the others, and of course the ever looming presence of Slade in which he knows can exploit his feelings of self doubt and desire for absolute justice to once again attempt a hostile takeover of the criminal underground.
However, at the moment, Slade was not the one uber mysterious criminal not yet captured that currently holds Robin’s attention. That distinct honor goes to Chucky Sol’s murder whose electrum ‘blood’ sample has left him baffled to…what exactly it is. This especially becomes a forensic nightmare for Robin since he and Cyborg have recently discovered that Sol was NOT this mystery person’s only kill; far from it actually, that very same electrum has in fact been recorded with various crimes and unsolved murder cases that had been appearing since he was at least eight years old ranging from St Louis, New York, Boston, and most prominent of all Gotham.  Yes, these were murder cases not even the Batman can solve and apparently they followed him all the way here. They needed to find this person and fast.
“Kid Flash, how goes your end?” Robin asks through his T Communicator to his old friend Wally West, the Kid Flash for he covered the ghettos outside of his range thanks to his trademark super speed.
“Wish I can say I found something Dude, but apparently the lack of pretty much anything here more apparent than my lack of dinner for today. That’s short for flat out nothing” Kid Flash shrugs rather sadly in reply to Robin’s call.
“Got nothing over here either” Beast Boy states on his end of the call
“Dead zoned over here, man” Cyborg mumbles tiredly
“Nada” Raven deadpans out for an answer.
Then however came in Starfire’s response, “I have found something, something flying through the air…like one of your Earth’s ‘birds’”
Robin immediately perked at that finding, “track it Star and send us the coordinates.” He ordered and immediately to every one of the other Titans, the address of Starfire’s latest location were sent; 1940 Bill Finger Drive. In one of the richer parts of the cities was this creep showing up. They needed to get there NOW.
And so, the Teen Titans all converge to that address and a mission they don’t know yet but will bring a new spin on the term ‘criminal’
1940 Bill Finger Drive, five minutes later…
Beast Boy arrive the last while everyone else has met at Starfire’s coordinates in which was in fact a luxurious building of a mansion of house in which pretty much only people of a $100,000 and above income can indulge within. Apparently the winged figure Starfire seen had entered into the building in seemingly friendly manner and she considered simply calling the area clear…at least until she heard the doors lock…and the screaming began. She immediately tried bursting into said doors to stop whatever was happening, only being met with a painful dosage of electric shock in which left her paralyzed for a brief bit, in which by the time she awoke the other Titans plus Kid Flash had arrived.
Now all seven Titans stood outside the beautifully crafted home with Owl shaped gargoyles hanging from its granite pillars with such prestige, as if the Owls themselves guard the very city they reside within. Come to think of it, a lot of today had seemed full of owls and other birds of prey being mentioned tonight. This type of coincidence reaches to Robin’s mind, in particular bringing to mind something from his childhood not only his ever favorite nickname ‘Little Robin’ but also of a certain lullaby he heard…
But these thoughts were brushed aside the second glass was broken inside the home, they needed to get in.
“Cyborg, blast open that door!”
With that, the locked marble doors were burst open with Cyborg’s trademark sonic canon and the Titans enter the home. Probably they should’ve brought barf bags inside given what they see next.
“P-p-ple—e-ease….h-h-help us” moaned the pale and weak female voice coming out of the mangled bodies filled with numerous cuts and slashes across their torsos, legs, with a bit of stab wounds going on both their genitals and their arms held with steel chains both surround and impaling the arms, holding the young couple to the wall with their blood leaking from all mentioned and then some. Frankly, even with Kid Flash and Robin immediately working to get them down, this gruesome sight makes even the toughest of soldiers most likely want to run away and cower into the corner. Believe it or not, it was only bound to grow worse from here, starting with a howling yet high pitched scream erupting from some other room of the mansion.
“We must search this place for that little girl IMMEDAITELY” roared Starfire as the screaming continued and did not let up in the slightest.
“Split up!” says Robin in an equal state of worry and panic for that little girl. Thus the searching begins.
Apparently the search across the house goes about as well as trying to urinate in a tiny glass cup while spinning around in a spinning top like manner, mainly it was near impossible. Each of the two preciously wasted minutes passed by with numerous rooms marked with a “Clear” from each of the Titans in their respective rooms. Even though Kid Flash provided a massive boot to progress, they still head that poor little girl’s screams echo through the mansion with no sign of her.
“Ok ok Ok! I’ll do what you want just please don’t hurt me!” the little girl screamed as the Talon throws her to the nearest wall after she was done shattering said girl’s fingers and toes.
“All need to do honey is say that you and your family will move out of this city and never come back.”
“Why would we do that? Why are you doing this?! You’re part of Daddy’s friends, they won’t do this!” wailed that girl through her sobs as she staggered to get away from this monster.
“It easy sweetie, because you wouldn’t leave anybody you didn’t like alone and only hurt other people for fun” The Talon coldly replied, “I’m simply here to put a stop to it.” She then grabs the girl by the collar of his PJs and lifts her into the air “I want you with your momma and daddy to know, no matter who comes in my way or the Titans all right behind our backs, you better start running, leave us alone and peaceful, or you’ll be expecting a visit from me.”
Talon stares fiercely then into the girl’s ever so scared eyes “Do I make myself CLEAR?”
“y-y-yes” sobbed the little girl.
“Good” replied the Talon. All the sudden however,
“Cyborg, blast it!” in that second a blue beam shot across the room with every Titan that had been searching the home from the better part of these few minutes entering in almost instantly. The horror in all of their eyes at the sight of this owl like creature holding a little girl mercilessly off the ground while said girl was full of tears and pain proves being an understatement. Also an understatement would be the anger that quickly consumed their horror as they draw out either their battles stances or weapons to combat this threat.
“Who…are you?!” asks Robin with a twinge of horror mixing with pure fiery rage at the psychopath who was harming this girl to no end. At least Slade target someone like Terra and him, individuals who can actually fight back against him and not target 6 year olds like her.
Talon simply remains silent in the presence of these teenagers, analyzing their technology, powers or talents they can posses against her. She had heard of their exploits amongst her missions here at Jump and their weaknesses which was how she was able to use two of her daggers with an electric charge to keep Starfire out the first time. While analyzing the group, Robin himself actually caught her attention the most. She knows that R on that red breasted vest anywhere.
“Mama, how come there’s an R on my shirt?”
“Easy Dick, it’s meant to be your full name Richard. And it’s also because you’re my Little Robin, flying through the air with little to care. Just like Mama and Daddy do.”
Now normally a brawl against all seven Titans will prove nearly futile right here given her situation and the simple matter of fact, Robin is at the same time her top priority target and the one person she NEVER wants to hurt.
“Answer me!” suddenly yelling Robin, tightening his grip on his bo-staff and snapping the Talon out of her thoughts.
With that Talon realizes, what’s use of hiding it? From what she can gather, Satan himself resurrected their arch nemesis in front of their eyes so maybe this won’t be too hard for them to get. With that, she silently throws that little girl into their direction, Kid Flash catching her in his arms, and without a single word, slowly begins to remove her mask.
As her features began to show, each of Titans found themselves widening their eyes once again as the noted not only the feminine curve of her lips but more prominently, the gray skin with covered her face right down to bone. Lightly blue glowing blood vessels also showed themselves, thus finally wrapping up where that black electrum had come from. The nail in the coffin though came with this woman letting loose a ponytail made with dark red hair, so dark one can easily mistake it for black from a distance. This beautiful woman would’ve been a general shock for every Titan there given her beauty. But the minute she opens her now golden tinted eyes and speaks, it went from just being a simple shock…
“Hi Richard, it’s nice to see you again.”
Robin nearly drops his staff at that statement, “m-m-Mama?”
“This woman…?” Starfire chirps out
“Is your mom?!” Kid Flash blurts
Raven’s hands began to glow with pure dark magic “Do you honestly think we’ll believe that statement?”
Beast Boy’s own hands began to morph into claws and he began snarling “Lady please tell us your talking out of your butt.”
Cyborg, however, scanning the electrum in her body and comparing to that one sample, nods “She isn’t lying y’all it’s really her. Her DNA matches the sample and since that DNA’s supposed to be dead…she’s really Robin’s long lost mother.”
Robin couldn’t help but gulp his throat as he processed all this information, “you’re really back?’
Mary nods slightly, with a rather…calm and affectionate smile on her face “In a manner of speaking, yes I’m really alive again Little Robin. Now before you ask there’s a lot more at stake here that you don’t realize is real and I don’t your friends getting hurt by it.” Her face then loses its smile, now somewhat resembling her “listen to me son” look “whatever happens from here on out, you will not get yourself caught in it, Mama’s just simply doing her work to make sure every one of you is safe and sound.”
Robin couldn’t help himself from gritting his teeth towards that last statement, especially given the sobbing girl in Kid Flash’s arms, “What do you mean? Why do…This? Who should be your problems and not ours mom?! Especially something SO BAD, it makes you into…THIS?!?”
Mary Elizabeth Lloyd Grayson, the Talon of Jump City, the Rebel, the Romani, simply picks up her mask from the ground and in her most somber tone the Titans there had heard, as her eyes now glowed, her voice, now slightly made almost ghostly yet very firm, began to speak:
“Beware the Court of Owls,
That watches all the Time,”
“Ruling their nest from a shadowed perch,
Behind granite and lime,” Robin continues as he drops his staff in absolute terror. He knew that poem, that lullaby he heard as child.
“They watch you in your hearth,”
“They watch you in your bed,”
“Speak not…”
“…a whispered word about them.
They both say at the same time, “Or they’ll send a Talon for your head.”
With that, major puff of smoke erupts out of the blue, reeling back all the Titans and blinding them. By the time said smoke cleared, she was gone, leaving only a golden bracelet behind. Robin picks it up with his eyes in a dazed state; this was the bird themed bracelet he gave to her on the last birthday he spent with her.
Epilogue: Titans Tower, three hours later, Robin’s Room
Richard John Grayson Llodveski couldn’t help but sit on his bed in his sweat pants and loose t shirts cross legged as his bare feet began to feel dumb, making him curl his toes to keep on the blood flow. But his feet meant little to what was on his hands, his mother’s bracelet.
It was all there and yet he didn’t know until now. The files from Haley Circus were cracked open and the words in them couldn’t deny facts: the first ever home he had was in fact a training ground for living undead killing machines that harm all sort of people, criminals or not, for the urban legend that is the Court of owls, an urban legend meant to scare children into listening to their parents before bedtime. Now, his mother, the woman whose ‘accident’ had been the bear root of Robin himself, was a killer. More than that, she had been killing since he began as Robin, since he was that inexperienced but ever so quipping eight year old boy in a bright yellow cape and green pixie boots running across the rooftops of Gotham. While he made his new life from the circus saving lives, the woman he loves from birth until rebirth was taking them.
This truth cannot be any more devastating than some saying Hitler himself had came back to life was voted President of the USA. But then comes the fact…it his mother…
Tears started to build in his eyes, so Richard puts the bracelet back on his dresser before promptly grabbing his stuffed elephant Peanut and smacking his face in his pillows, muttering in his native Romani
“This is just (sob) wrong.”
Little did Robin know he wasn’t the only one left a sobbing wreck from tonight…
Meanwhile, at an unknown place in Jump’s waterfront district…
The now lone Mary Grayson, sitting on her own custom bed with her armor off, leaving only a bra, sweatpants and bare feet on the cushions, was glaring angrily and mournfully at her owl mask, the mask she had worn since her resurrection, the mask that had frightening so many innocent children both with and without her control…even her child was afraid now..
Mary throws the mask towards the wall and buries her face in her own pillows, muttering in her own native Romani
“This is just (sob) wrong.”

Teen Titans the Judas Contract
Just finished watching Teen Titans and the Judas Contract, and as far as I’m concerned the best comic book movie universe is the DC animated universe.
Spoilers under the cut (warning in tags for something Slade did but it was treated as bad so check tags before reading under the cut if you are unsure, this is in the last paragraph only. Others are positive spoilers) Warning spoilers are borderline happy ravings.
This was awesome, sickly in love mom and dad Kori and Dick that are just so open about that with each other and the team (extremely refreshing in comparison to team shows up and emotions leave type of trope) watching over their emotionally damaged teenage kids by acknowledging they all had a messed up past so know you can come to them and others on the team BECAUSE, LIKE GAR SAID, WE ARE A FAMILY and be emotionally open and not just we are all messed up get over it with no help what so ever. It’s okay to have PTSD. Just we are all here for each other and I love it.
I mean there was a moment when they found out the enemy had been watching them and Kori mentioned they need to be more villigant and Gar thought that meant being locked in the tower, BUT IT DIDN’T. Kori realized this was something they should expect with their job, and it isn’t fair to have them stop having lives just cause of it but to be extra villigant and keep your coms in and on at all times because continuing your life and taking precautions aren’t mutually exclusive.
Damian is even more emotionally open. Damian talks to Dick after Dick asks Kori to move in with him in front of the team because the team walked in after he started and Damian just goes, she’s a good leader I approve and when Dick asks where Damian goes when he leaves so often Damian gets defensive at first but once Dick clarifies he is taking an interest in Damian’s life and not interrogating him Damian goes okay and JUST TELLS HIM.
And Dick remembering he stepped down as the leader so making active steps to not overstep and just him and Kori having silent looks (including sorry from Dick) when boundaries are passed so it isn’t just him steamrolling over her and they TALK about it and Kori can talk about her insecurities, DURING A QUIET MOMENT IN THEIR LIFE, it’s so awesome. And when he isn’t sure he defers to Kori and they form boundaries and they are adorable and I love them. And some more background on a couple of the characters to boot.
Just more background on Jamie and he had his own story arc and my knowledge of him is limited to Young Justice so this was awesome to see (can we continue with the Teen Titans because I think I love them the most in the animated universe). And he had Gar there for him on an extra level with everyone else and I just want to protect him.
And GAR JUST NEEDS A HUGE HUG AND I HOPE WE GET MORE ON HIM AND HE IS PROTECTED AND LOVED LIKE HE SHOULD BE BECAUSE HE JUST HAS SO MUCH HEART.
And it’s small but Raven coming to check up on Robin after Deathstroke was killed...againish because out of everyone that isn’t a bat she knows just what that meant and she GOT HIM A PUPPY (SERIOUSLY WE NEED ANOTHER TEEN TITANS MOVIE JUST BECAUSE I’VE HEARD STORIES OF DAMIEN’S PETS IN NEED ADOPTION RIVALING THAT OF HIS FATHER’S HUMANS IN NEED ADOPTION AND THAT PUPPY IS ADORABLE AND I WANT TO SEE MORE OF IT. ALONG WITH DAMIAN’S BECOMING A VEGETARIAN BECAUSE OF IT SO I CAN SEE GAR AND HIM BOND OER THAT. I’VE WANTED THE TWO TO BOND OVER THAT EVER SINCE THEY WERE ON SCREEN TOGETHER AND I DON’T KNOW WHY).
And there IS one extremely icky thing with Slade saving Tara and isolating her, training her ruthlessly, and promising her whatever she wants which because of all that lead her to want to be with him in every way he promised after she helped him take down the titans by being a double agent for him BUT THEY MAKE IT CLEAR THAT IT IS ABOUT CONTROL AND MANIPULATION AND NOT LOVE AND THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY UNHEALTHY FALSE AND BAD.

Black History Month: 15 Influential Black Superheroes
Since their first appearances in comics in the ’60s, black superheroes have provided a mirror to many generations of children who have ever wanted to have superpowers. Early versions of superheroes like Black Panther, Luke Cage and Storm have paved the way for their contemporaries as well as modern incarnations of black superheroes.
RELATED: Black Heroes Matter: 17 Black Defenders Of The MCU
After appearing on the pages of Marvel and DC Comics, these heroes also inspired black creators like Dwayne McDuffie and Roy Okupe to make their own heroes, filling a void by the sporadic appearances in mainstream superhero comics. Today, black superheroes can be found on the page and on the screen in films, television shows and animated series. To commemorate Black History Month and the influence of black superheroes, here are 15 black superheroes that have helped make comic book continuity more inclusive.
STORM
One of the most famous members of the X-Men, Ororo Monroe was created by Lein Wein and David Cockcrum and first appeared in May 1975. As a mutant, she has the ability to control the weather and fly; she is also an expert thief and skilled in hand-to-hand combat. She has led the X-Men herself a few times, notably after the events of the “Dark Phoenix Saga” and when the main X-Men team split into the gold and blue teams.
She has also been a member of The Avengers and the Fantastic Four, and even served as the Queen of Wakanda when she briefly married her long-time lover T’Challa, the Black Panther. On top of that, she is descended from a long-line of witch-priestesses; her mother was a princess of a Kenyan tribe, and Ororo herself was worshipped as a goddess before being recruited by Professor Xavier for the X-Men. Currently, she is the leader of the Extraordinary X-Men.
LUKE CAGE
Luke Cage is the first black comic book character to star in his own series. Making his first appearance in 1972, he was created by Archie Goodwin, John Romita Sr and George Tuska. After being imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, he is involuntarily subjected to an experimental procedure that gives him bulletproof skin and super strength. Once he is freed, he teams up with Iron Fist to form the duo Power Man and Iron Fist and becomes a hero for hire.
As Powerman and part of the original Heroes For Hire team, he would work with not only Iron Fist, but also Misty Knight and Jessica Jones. He would also become a member of The Defenders and The Mighty Avengers, as well as the Thunderbolts. In 2015, Luke Cage made his first onscreen appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Netflix original series “Jessica Jones.” The following year, he would star in his own Netflix spin-off series “Luke Cage,” which was recently renewed for a second season.
MISTY KNIGHT
Created by Tony Isabella and Arvell Jones, Misty Knight leapt into comics in January 1975, debuting just a few months before Storm to become one of Marvel’s first black female superheroes. She was an NYPD officer until a bomb attack caused her arm to be amputated. After quitting, she was given a bionic arm by Tony Stark that gave her super strength. Suitably “armed,” she met Colleen Wing and together they formed their own private investigation agency, becoming the crime fighting duo, Daughters of The Dragon.
The two would have their own adventures and provide assistance to Power Man and Iron Fist, the aforementioned Heroes For Hire. Misty would also reform Heroes For Hire with a new team during the events of Marvel’s Civil War, leading the team and revamping it again after the immediate end of tensions. She would also form and lead the team known as The Fearless Defenders alongside Valkyrie. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she can be seen in a prominent role on the Netflix series “Luke Cage” and is portrayed by Simone Missick.
STATIC
Originally a part of Milestone Comics, Static was created by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Derek Dingle and Michael Davis. Named after the first black person to attend the law school at University of Florida, Virgil Hawkins gains the ability to manipulate electro-magnetic energy after unwittingly being caught up in a big showdown between Dakota’s gang wars and doused with an experimental chemical. The event would become known as “The Big Bang” and would not only affect Virgil but those who would become Virgil’s future archenemies.
Virgil became Static after finding other “Big Babies” that got powers and chose to cause problems in Dakota. After Milestone Comics closed in 1997, Static was reintroduced in the animated series “Static Shock,” which aired from 2000 to 2004. The show gave Static an entry point into the DC Comics Universe, where he would eventually become a member of the Teen Titans. Static would also make appearances in the animated shows “Justice League: Unlimited” and “Young Justice.”
MONICA RAMBEAU
Monica Rambeau was created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. Since her 1982 debut, she has been known by several superhero names. She first went by Captain Marvel, after being exposed to extra-dimensional energy and gaining the ability to convert her body to light. Once she joined The Avengers, she learned to control her powers and eventually became their leader. Later on, she would change her name to Photon after teaming up with the son of the original Captain Marvel and realizing he wanted to use the name for himself.
After a while, he changed his name to Photon and Monica changed her named to Pulsar. Eventually, Monica would become the leader of the team Nextwave, but didn’t use any code-name in the field. During Marvel’s “Infinity” storyline, she took up her current superhero alias, Spectrum, and became field leader of Luke Cage’s Mighty Avengers team. Currently, she is a prominent member of the The Ultimates, fighting cosmic threats to the Earth and the very universe itself.
VIXEN
Vixen, aka Mari McCabe, would’ve been DC’s first African female DC superhero to have her own series had it not been cancelled. Nonetheless, she has managed to have a decent run in comics after her 1981 debut. Created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oskner, Vixen can use the abilities of any animal by focusing on them with the Tantu totem given to her ancestors by the African trickster god Anansi. After a brief time as a solo hero, Vixen became a member of the Justice League, as well as Suicide Squad, with the majority of her work having been in the former.
In addition to making modern-day appearances in the comic series “Justice League of America,” Vixen also starred in the limited series “Return of The Lion.” Recently, Vixen’s origins were told in a DC Rebirth one-shot. Vixen has also made appearances in many television series, including “Justice League Unlimited,” “Batman: The Brave and The Bold,” “Arrow” and her own CW seed animated series, appropriately titled “Vixen.”
JOHN STEWART
A member of the Green Lantern Corps, John Stewart debuted in 1971, making history as the first African American character in DC Comics. Created by Dennis O’Neal and Neal Adams, he was originally chosen as a backup Green Lantern to then-current Green Lantern Hal Jordan. After Hal Jordan relinquished the title in the 1980s, he became Green Lantern full-time. Using the ring worn by all Green Lanterns, he can create anything that his imagination can drum up as well as the powers of flight and invulnerability.
During and after his time in the Green Lantern Corps, he has become the first mortal Guardian of The Universe, leader of the peacekeeping troop the Darkstars, as well as a member of The Justice League. Off the page, his character has become well known due to his appearances in animated series, including “Justice League,” “Justice League Unlimited,” “Static Shock” and “Young Justice.” He is set to appear as a main character in the upcoming film “Green Lantern Corps.”
STRIKE GUARD
Strike Guard is a character and comic book series created by Ayodele Elegba and published by the Nigerian based company, Vortex Comics. A superhero inspired by Yoruba spiritual traditions, Strike Guard’s main protagonist is a college kid named Abolaji Coker. After Abolaji’s love interest Chi Chi gets involved with the leader of a cult, Abolaji and his best friend Peter Antai are murdered.
After being thrown into the grave of an ancient warrior named Ajabeja, Abolaji’s soul makes contact with Ajabeja’s while in limbo. Abolaji strikes a deal to share his body with Ajabeja in exchange for returning to life. Gaining an open consciousness of the spirit realm and the opportunity to avenge his friend’s death, Abolaji becomes Strike Guard to protect people from spirits lingering in the real world. In this way, Strike Guard is a mythical superhero akin to Marvel’s Thor, providing a refreshing take on mythological superheroes through its creative use of the Orisha thunder god Sango.
CYBORG
Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, Cyborg is one of the most iconic members of the Teen Titans, as well as the Justice League. In his first iteration, Cyborg was a normal teenager named Victor Stone until his scientist parents conducted an experiment with an inter-dimensional portal that went wrong. A monster comes through, killing Victor’s mother and severely mauling Victor before his dad forces it back into the portal. In order to save his life, Victor’s dad inserts experimental prosthetics on part of his face and body.
Afterwards, Victor struggles to adjust to his cybernetic parts due to the fearful reactions from others and the fact that he can no longer participate in athletic hobbies. Once he stops a former friend from conducting terrorist acts, his sense of purpose is renewed and he decides to join the Teen Titans. Later on, when a new incarnation of the Teen Titans came together, he served as a mentor to them. Later still, in the New 52 reboot of DC Comics, his origins include the coming of Darkseid. In this version of the character, he was established as a founding member of the Justice League. Currently, he stars in his own ongoing series that has been published since 2015.
WALE WILLIAMS
Hailing from YouNeek Studios and created by Roye Okupe, Wale Williams’s story is set in a futuristic society known as Lagoon City, which is inspired by the real island of Lagos. Wale is a twenty-something young man who returns home to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his father, an inventor. He discovers that his home has changed drastically after the poorest areas have been overrun by corrupt leaders and robotic drones called DREDS.
At the center of this corruption is the masked leader Oniku, whose goal is to “cleanse” Lagoon City while manipulating the lower class. In order to combat this threat, Wale Williams dons an exo suit designed by his father and becomes the superhero EXO to protect his city. As a character, Wale Williams is a wealthy kid with integrity, defending the poorest of his community and his remaining family while searching for his father. Likened to DC’s Cyborg and Marvel’s Iron Man, Wale Williams is a Nigerian superhero for a modern and futuristic age.
MILES MORALES
The creation of Miles Morales by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli was inspired by Barack Obama and Donald Glover. Originally becoming Spider-Man in the Ultimate Marvel universe, the black-Puerto Rican teenager would come into the role after being bitten by a spider containing the experimental formula that gave Peter Parker his spidey powers. At first, he is unhappy with his powers, wanting to be a normal kid, until he witnesses the death of Peter Parker.
Realizing that he could’ve helped Peter, he decides to take up the mantle of Spider-Man and later dons a new black-and-red costume given to him by S.H.I.E.L.D. After the Ultimate Marvel Universe is destroyed, Miles takes over Peter Parker’s patrol of New York in the mainstream Marvel Universe when Peter decides to take a global approach to his Spider-Man duties. Miles would also become an Avenger in Marvel’s “All New All Different Avengers” series and a founding member of Marvel’s newest team, The Champions.
THE MANTIMAJI
Elijah Alexander is a rising district attorney who has been dealing with cases involving a mysterious group of criminals known as the New World Knights. When his work collides with the agenda of the New World Knights and a personal speaker named Brother Hope, he discovers that he is the descendant of a race of mystical knights called The Mantimaji. After suffering a tragic loss, Elijah trains to become a Mantimaji in order to get revenge.
As he strikes out against Brother Hope, Elijah learns more about his legacy as a Mantimaji and his potential to become a hero and save the world from Brother Hope’s twisted plans. Although he starts off as an entitled person, Elijah Alexander’s love and appreciation for his family causes him to be a great hero in the making. Using a magical ankh that can change into armor and any weapon imaginable, as well as the aid of women warriors known as The Sanctuants, Elijah Alexander comes into his role as a superhero legacy that has protected the world for generations.
BLACK LIGHTNING
One of the first black superheroes to appear in DC Comics, Black Lightning debuted in 1977 by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden. With the power of electro-magnetism, he can generate and manipulate electricity using a variety of methods. In addition to working as a solo hero, Black Lightning has been a member of Batman’s group, The Outsiders, as well as a member of the Justice League. He has also been shown to have some serious martial arts skills.
RELATED: Black Lightning: 15 Powers You Didn’t Know He Had
When he isn’t performing acts of superheroism, he is known as Jefferson Pierce and has been an Olympic decathlete and a high school principal, not to mention a father. Black Lightning’s daughters, Jessica and Anissa, have also become heroes themselves. Anissa took the name “Lightning” and became a member of Outsiders like her father, while Jessica became “Thunder” and a member of the Justice League. Last year, it was announced that Black Lightning and his daughters will appear in a new Black Lightning television series currently in development.
THE FALCON
Featured in Marvel Comics, Sam Wilson is the first African American superhero in mainstream comics. Debuting in 1969, he was created by Stan Lee and Gene Golban and introduced in “Captain American” #117. After becoming friends and partners-in-crime(fighting), Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson would eventually come up with the persona The Falcon after the Nazi villain Red Skull fuses Sam with a falcon named Redwing in order to manipulate him.
As The Falcon, Sam Wilson has a physic link with Redwing that can be used to literally get a bird’s eye view of things. He also has a cybernetic uniform designed by Black Panther that allows him to fly, be resistant to small firearms and see things via infrared lenses. While working as The Falcon, he managed to become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. In his most recent comic book appearance, Sam Wilson became the newest Captain America and leader of the Avengers after an aged Steve Rogers passed the mantle onto him.
BLACK PANTHER
Created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee for Marvel Comics, Black Panther premiered in 1966 and is the first African superhero in American comics. The Black Panther is the title given to the chief of the technologically-advanced African nation of Wakanda. By establishing a connection with the Panther God, the Black Panther gains abilities that include heightened senses and reflexes, enhanced strength, speed, durability and healing. The current Black Panther is T’Challa, who has served not only as king of Wakanda, but also represented the country during times of crisis and peace.
In addition to his superhuman abilities, T’Challa is one of the smartest people in the world, having an advanced degree in physics and technology and great knowledge of Wakanda’s metallic ore vibranium. In certain comics, he has cleverly used the portable supercomputer Kimiko to solve problems and escape sticky situations. Besides being a solo hero, T’Challa has been a member of the Defenders, a temporary member of the Fantastic Four (alongside his former wife Storm), and is currently a member of The Ultimates.
Obviously, we couldn’t fit every black hero on this list, so we want to hear your favorites! Sound off in the comments!

Why do you like Tim Drake? (Not to say I don't like him too, I'm just always interested to see why people like what they do)
Sorry this is pretty long.
He’s my favorite comic book character ever. There’s just so many things I enjoy about him, especially his early Robin run, where I can’t really think of anything I didn’t like about it, even stuff I didn’t like later on in that run I can think of positives from those negatives.
His personality I just enjoyed, he felt very grounded and real. The way he reacted with stuff, and took it all in.
I loved how he felt he had to keep the reputation of the title Robin because he just felt so much for the ones before him with respect. How he never felt like he was good enough just felt like it would be a real problem with someone who was such a fan of the Robins and held them with such high respect with them.
He always felt un-sure and I feel like I just resonated with that, since I always felt like that. I feel like a lot of people would feel like that if they were given a role they held in so much respect like him.
I enjoyed how he was portrayed as more realistic in a certain sense. The way he reacted to everything and thought felt like how a real person would react and it was done so well I just love it.
I like how they took there time with him becoming Robin, I guarantee if people didn’t like his character he wouldn’t have made it to the point where he was the new Robin, he would’ve just disappeared, and if he did make it to that point, it probably wouldn’t have lasted long.
They just took their time with him, and I really like that so much. It didn’t just happen suddenly out of no were. It felt natural.
and his character growth, it’s really subtle from issue to issue, but if you go from the first few issues to issue 20 even you can see the progress, he grew like a real person through everything he went through. He didn’t just change from one moment to another. It slowly effected him and changed him even if it was subtle.
Even just little things like his costume and height and stuff like that, it’s never mentioned at all, but they add to his character. His costume showed that Bruce wasn’t taking any chances with him, he wasn’t letting this baby faced kiddo go out there in just briefs, his costume is thick, covers him more, and it will protect him. It showed the change in Bruce with his Robins now. He wasn’t going to let another death happen.
His height was 5ft 1 when he was 15, and you can argue that it always changes between writers, but part of his character was that he never felt like he earned the title of Robin enough and kept having to prove himself and fight harder, I feel like being shorter adds onto that and makes sense to me. (Also he was actually written as being 5ft 1 consistently, I didn’t just say that for myself, it is actual canon.)
Something about small stuff like that, that probably doesn’t matter at all when reading it, but knowing that stuff to me just makes the bigger stuff more enjoyable since it just adds on.
His relationships with everyone I like and are so full of depth, especially his relationships with Dick and Stephanie, Dick, even though he was pretty rough and tough with him in the beginning grew to enjoy his company and it was like he was his actual big brother, it was so lovely to see happen. I just loved it.
Seeing him interact with Stephanie is always fun, Tim already had a girl friend when he was just Tim and not Robin, so to see this vigilante girl flirt with him, making him all sorts of uncomfortable and confused, even making the difference between Tim as Tim and Tim as Robin even larger was interesting. To the point where they even began dating for real, and Tim feeling un-sure about the long run of their relationship since he wasn’t allowed to say stuff about him for fear of his secret identity was just good conflict to me.
The thing Tim had with his dad always being gone was interesting, it seemed like Jack (Tim’s dad) really wanted to be more of a dad to Tim but it was hard since neither felt natural about it, and Tim being Robin always got in the way. It was always hard to predict how Jack would react to Tim’s excuses cause of that and it was just so good to read. Jack felt conflicted and it made him feel like a real person, he knew he wasn’t a good dad to Tim, he wanted to change that, although personally that wasn’t always portrayed as well as everything else. When it was done right, it was done right. But moments like where he would just throw a fit at Tim un-fairly without listening to him just felt odd to me.
Even though it was never highlighted as much as his other relationships, seeing him and his Step-Mother Dana was interesting to see. She cared for Tim, and tried to get out of so much heat with his dad was lovely. She wanted to show Tim that she cared for him, and it definitely showed.
His relationships with YOUNG JUSTICE and later on when they were the TEEN TITANS I love too, although in my opinion Tim was kind of out of character in Young Justice, and I can’t recall if they ever said why he acted like that. He was more confident and bossy, and you can make plenty of head canons about why he acted that way. But I can’t recall if it was ever stated in anything that’s actually canon. That still bugs me when reading Young Justice.
But to see him have all these wonderful and meaningful relationships with other heroes around his age just felt good. It was done in a very real way where you felt it as if it was real.
You could feel Kon cared for Tim, and just the whole group together truthfully cared for each other. There deep talks, Kon being able to sense when Tim isn’t telling the truth was stuff during his Red Robin days and it doesn’t feel forced and corny. It feels right.
For negatives though, I don’t personally like when they just decided to kill everyone in Tim’s life that he cared about. I felt like it was extremely unnecessary and still feel that way, but the writers managed to get some extra depth and change to Tim. Even if it was extremely unnecessary to do so.
It showed Tim reacting like a real person, and feeling depressed and not knowing how to feel exactly, and having problems with that, and how it effected him dealing with certain situations and feeling angry just in general about it.
Make it to Red Robin, and you can feel Tim’s pain when no body believed him about Bruce being alive. Even he didn’t know what the hell he was going to do about it, and you could sense it and it didn’t even need to be said. There was a lot you could sense and feel without it being said and still been shown and it was all done beautifully.
Tim is a character that isn’t as beloved and appreciated as he should be. There’s a lot to love about his run and history. Even if it was all gone by the reboot. It’s still out there and it’s still wonderful to read.
I just love Tim Drake.
There’s a lot I just summarized and tried to keep short for the sake of not taking up to much space and time to read. So if you want anything to be more specific just give me an ask.
