if you find out some new korean music, do you always go read the lyrics or you do it whenever? i randomly found a lovely song and i just love their voice but i didnt go look at the lyrics yet which is the opposite of what i do with bts. i think i do this with iu too cause she sounds lovely but im not in the mood to learn a new song if that makes sense lol

not to sound like a grandma stan, but i used to have to hunt down translations on popgasa (or some other wordpress page on google search pg 2) or wait a couple days for whatever iteration lovekpopsubs or platypizz or loen (1thek now) or other group specific channel to upload hard captions to see translations (and it would get flagged so you had to go on dailymotion/vimeo to watch it), so the fact that almost all kpop music now comes with cc english subs (they even managed to get sm on the cc train they used to only have those uncloseable ads that drove all of us crazy and only jyp had any eng trans) and english lyrics already on streaming services and genius pages with analysis already is a luxury i will never take for granted.

if its a comeback ive been waiting for, ill watch the video a couple times to read the subs and fully digest the mv. if its a new group/debut, i would double task and use the skills ive honed from watching some 2 decades of eng sub anime to both read translations and watch. but in general, if its a song i like, i will hunt down the translations, even if it takes me a while, simply bc i believe NOT looking them up is doing a disservice to the song you know? someone penned these lyrics to convey a message, and i want to know what it is!
