my boss and i both have a mutual love for only yesterday. we talked about how it’s pretty much a hidden gem and it’s (probably) not as popular as other studio ghibli movies because it’s a truly realist story about growing up from adolescence to adulthood (amongst other things). that being said, my boss was surprised that i even knew and liked the movie and i was like “well, yeah, i like it. it’s about a girl growing up ...i am a girl” and he was like “no i meant that it’s not the most popular movie”. like he bought the UK DVD and UK DVD player so he could make his husband watch it.

Do you have grown up/old version of the mane six in your 1920s au? 👀 like with Rarity having that white strand of hair etc. (Sorry my english not good 😅)
Probably won't get around to designing those. It's funny to think that these girls in their 50s would be, like, living in the 1960s. They'd be watching us land on the moon (much to Luna's distaste). With luck, the main six would survive to watch Star Wars and Back to the Future in theaters. How wacky is that?
Speaking of history, because the Great Depression never happens in this AU (I'm not too keen on throwing literally every single character into an entire decade of poverty and unemployment and starvation), that means the era of the Roaring Twenties will continue into the 30s as well. That also means World War II will be at the very least minimized (the Nazi party would probably not have the political means/climate to take power). The GG20s AU may exist on a timeline where WW2 was not a major, global war, similar to how Kiki's Delivery Service and Tintin's universes never experienced WW2.

Hello, can I request headcanons where reader is watching anime with Eren, Armin and Mika (separately)? What kind of anime would they like and how they would generally react to anime.
Sure thing sweetie!
Cws; fluff, pre-est relationships (dating)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eren
H x H, One Punch Man
Boy is he loud!
Eren yells when the episodes come to an end, and refuses to go to bed until successfully binging all the content with you. A bit of a madman. Gets really invested and doesn't talk when watching, but cuddles close. You can see his brows furrow in thought while watching characters talk.
He loves any anime with lots of action, and tends towards the shonen genre.
In the beginning he described himself as an 'anime hater', but he quickly fell in love with your favorite shows.
He also loves debating the plot with you while cozying up after literally binging 4 seasons in a row.
Also, a lot of his anime knowledge comes from Armin. Well, I mean, of course, since Armin is his best friend! They grew up watching anime together.
Armin
Sailor Moon, FLCL, Nichijou, any Ghibli movies!
Absolutely spent 90% of his high school days cooped up in his room watching anime, so he has a lengthy list of "things to watch with Y/n".
Armin is very reactive and talkative! Might distract you while watching just by doing goofy annoying things, but it's just because he's excited and likes you a lot.
Armin has a soft spot for shoujo anime, because he really loved Sailor Moon growing up. But he keeps Ghibli movies closest to his heart! In general he likes shows that require him to think deeply about the plot and characters, the more complex the better. He'll have his brows furrowed in contemplation days after watching a big plot twist with you.
But some nights he just wants to wind down with a relaxing, unproblematic Ghibli movie. He's watched Howl's Moving Castle about a dozen times, and Kiki's Delivery service double that, and let's not even talk about his watchcount on Spirited Away.
Mika
Literally anything you like, she likes too
Before you started watching anime with her, she was never very interested in it. She just doesn't invest time in TV shows in general.
Mika gets a little distracted when watching with you. She might end up falling asleep on you, especially during winter. She blames your fuzzy warmth. She doesn't really show emotion when dramatic things happen in an anime, but when something really intense happens, she might let her mouth hang or gasp.
Her genre preferences are really diverse, honestly she just loves anything you love. When you mention an anime show or movie that you love, she'll watch it in her spare time just so she can talk about it with you next time you two meet up.
Absolutely the type to overprepare just for casual anime-watching. She brings out the pillows and blankets and snacks. She also ends up resting her chin on your shoulder, usually without realizing, when she's fully absorbed into an episode.
You're actually the one who keeps her awake with the whole one more episode thing! She whines about being tired, but ends up watching more because she's also too invested to stop.

There is this anime movie I've only watched once in my life but that lives rent free in my head ever since, and that was like 5 years ago.
So basically is about the MC (no idea if they were a boy or a girl) who has a... i think at the start they were friends but there were romantic intentions.
So the MC's love interest takes them to meet their family wich is composed of many different and colorful characters and they live in this old classic japanesse home. Also there's some subplot about some kinda metaverse thing and things happening there, and I distinctly remember one of the family members was a younger girl that was in a closed dark room with a computer and some fans/other cooling device.
One of the family members was a firefighter or paramedic, maybe there were two different characters idk.
So this uncle/distant relative comes with some kinda of legal fuckery to take the family home for himself out of spite 'cuz he's kind of an asshole and nobody likes him.
Remember that subplot about the metaverse?? Well it comes somehow (a huge part of the plot is blurred or gone from my mind) and so the MC, the younger computer girl I mentioned and I think the love interest too had to beat up some kind of virus or hacker wrecking havoc in there, and also the family has to get fans and coolers and such things to keep up with the super computer they are using for that.
In retrospect maybe the uncle/other relative wasn't trying to do anything bad and was just kinda around but nobody liked him, I don't remember wich one was it.
Also I distinctly remember it was not from Studio Ghibli. There's a movie on netflix wich is about some kind of digital world too but is about something different and the artsyle is different from what I recall too.
So that's that, it bugged me a lot back then that I couldn't remember it, specially since other movies like Kiki's Delivery Service or The Return of the Cat I did found out (both those two, and Spirited away I distinctly recall beign aired in the same channel back then).
I know my following is little but if anyone got any lead I'd be the most grateful girl ever.

TWST Boys’ Favorite Earth Movies
This list is only comprised of movies that I have seen. I haven’t seen that many movies in comparison to others, so if you have any suggestions for a movie that is a better fit for a character, please let me know! I would love to hear your ideas!
Also spoilers for the movies listed! No twst spoilers.
I tried to stay true to the characters, but I’m very sorry if any character is ooc!
The post is under the cut since it is very long😅
Riddle: Alice in Wonderland (2010)
While Riddle was a little bugged by how the movie was immensely inaccurate in accordance to Twisted Wonderland history, he found himself to surprisingly enjoy it. The plot being set in a different time with an older protagonist made it stand out to him as a different take on the tale. He was taken aback with how different the Queen of Hearts (sorry, the Red Queen) is in this film, along with the addition of a White Queen. After a while, he realized that this was a completely different story and stopped nitpicking, and that was when he started to enjoy the movie for what it was.
Trey: Kiki’s Delivery Service
He enjoys the simplicity of it, as well as the amount of baking involved in the plot. The art style of the film was also very pleasing to him, it gave off a sense of peace, and he could tell a lot of love and care went into the film. He also resonated with the main conflict, that if something you love turns into your job, you will lose passion for it and get burnt out. He relates to it because he sometimes fears that that’s how he’ll end up with baking. He liked the conclusion, and it left him with something to think about.
Cater: 21 Jump Street
Cater was a very tricky one to find a movie for. I felt that he wouldn’t like a mindless comedy, but he also wouldn’t like something too complex or provocative, or something that makes him think too much. So I settled on this funny buddy cop movie. The comedy kept him laughing, but the complex friendship shown between the two main characters kept him engaged. He likes how the two became closer from their newly-developed perspectives and shared hardships, and low key wishes something like that would happen to him one day.
Ace: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
As you could guess, the idea of skipping school and going on a grand adventure of fun and self-discovery through town is very appealing to Ace. The entire time, he was daydreaming of doing the same thing with Deuce and MC. Oh he has so many ideas for a future outing with his friends now.
Deuce: Accepted
He adores the message of this movie. As someone who didn’t even know he was going to be accepted into a normal high school let alone Night Raven Collage, the ending speech made him shed a tear or two. He also started to entertain the idea of building a school, or even a secret hideout, with his friends. But he dismissed it, he didn’t want to get into any more trouble than he and the freshman gang already get into.
Leona: Fight Club
The only movie where he didn’t fall asleep midway through. He knew something weird was going on with the main character and Tyler, and he was close to guessing the big reveal. The plot in which the fight club slowly turns into a terrorist group was also engaging, he likened it to a king letting his kingdom and subjects fall with him as he descends into madness.
Ruggie: JoJo Rabbit
Ruggie was also tough to find a movie for, but I think he would like this one. Obviously he doesn’t understand going through the horrors of war, but he does know the feeling of loneliness, clinging onto the one person you have left, and, of course, living in poverty. He also totally cried at Rosie’s death reveal and the battle scene.
Jack: Princess Mononoke
He liked that there was no “villain” or side that is pure evil for the sake of it. There were clear reasons why each side felt contempt for their situation and went to war to get what they wanted, and he respects that greatly. He also liked the depiction of wolves a lot. He noticed that a good bit of media on Earth depicted the wolves as the villains, so he loved that they were depicted as just another band of creatures doing what they could to survive and raise that girl in the forest. He appreciates the proper wolf representation.
Azul: Seven
Azul is the type of guy that likes a movie that makes him think, and murder mysteries are a fun treat to him from time to time. While the blood and gore started to make him queasy after a while, he greatly enjoyed trying to piece together the murderer’s plan. The discussions about morality and fame and infamy were also evocative. The ending absolutely shocked him and left him reeling long after the movie was over. While he enjoyed it a lot, it’s not a movie he would watch all the time due to the violence.
Jade: Clue
While Jade also enjoyed Seven, and might even be inclined to watch it more than Azul, he would enjoy a more tame murder mystery to watch for fun. He liked trying to find who the killer was all while the silly comedy managed to get a chuckle or two out of him. Liked everything about it except the idea of multiple endings, but excuses it when he was told it was based on a game where anyone could end up being the killer. He later decides to take money out of Mostro Lounge’s budget to buy the game.
Floyd: Ponyo
Didn’t expect to like a movie he thought was for babies, but he ended up really enjoying it. He likes the characters, the setting, and also all the fishes! Just like Sosuke and Ponyo, he likes to try and identify as many sea creatures he can whenever he watches it. Also really likes Ponyo’s mom, she reminds him of his own mom, in a way. Also hums the end credits song while he’s working sometimes.
Kalim: My Neighbor Totoro
Kalim is a very open-minded person, so he appreciates a movie that encapsulates something he has never experienced before. In this case: simple cottage life. As the movie goes on, he starts to wish he could live that care-free life alongside his siblings and Jamil. Adores Totoro and the cat bus and as soon as the movie is over, he buys any merch of them he could get his hands on, much to Jamil’s annoyance.
Jamil: Ocean’s 11
Like Azul, he loves when a cunning scheme come together in the end, so I thought he would enjoy a good heist movie. He enjoyed trying to guess the specific elements of the plan and how everything fit together. Also related to how the characters teamed up to get back at those who wronged them.
Vil: Crimson Peak
The entire movie was just so aesthetically pleasing to him. While gothic is not his absolute favorite aesthetic, he loves it when it’s done right, and he certainly thinks so here. The dilapidated gothic manor, the designs and special effects for the ghosts, and especially the costumes. He learned that the film won an award for its costume design and he certainly thinks it’s deserved. He also had to give credit to the performances of the actors. While he nitpicked parts of the plot, he definitely enjoyed the film as a whole.
Rook: Grand Budapest Hotel
Aesthetically pleasing as well as full of good action, this was right up his alley. He loved the colors and set pieces, but the aspect that fascinated him the most was the direction style. He can’t quite put his finger on what it would be called, but he’s never seen a movie that was directed like this before.
Epel: The Secret World of Arrietty
He was fascinated by how something on such a small scale can seem so grand. Since the main characters were small, the world looked so much bigger around them. The parts Epel enjoyed the most were the quiet moments with Sean laying out in the yard with the cat, or when he was trying to befriend Arrietty. Moments like those reminded him of his home during the summer time.
Idia: The Nightmare Before Christmas
While his main interests are anime and video games, Idia loves a good horror movie. Although he knows this film doesn’t technically count as a horror movie, it was similar enough to his all-time favorite movie to keep him wanting to see more. He loves the art and animation style. Stop-motion is not a style he’s familiar with, but he’s certainly interested now. Also Oogie Boogie is one his favorite animated villains now.
Ortho: Ready Player One
Just the thought of playing around in a whole virtual reality world with his brother and friends made him practically bounce in his seat. Making his own avatar and fighting an evil corporate organization made him daydream. Even though he doesn’t get any of the pop culture references, he still loves the plot and concept of it all, and believes his brother will be Twisted Wonderland’s James Halliday one day.
Malleus: How to Train Your Dragon
He immediately likened the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless to him and MC. He saw all the movies, but he has to say that the first one is his favorite. The plot of the human and the dragon growing to trust and love one another touched him, and it made him hope the he could continue being friends with MC.
Lilia: Pan’s Labyrinth
He left the film with conflicting emotions. He was thoroughly heartbroken, yet hopeful by the end of it. That poor girl had been through so much, but at least she was reunited with her true family in the end. He loved the designs and special effects used for the monsters (the hand monster actually managed to disturb him a bit) most of all.
Silver: Hero
Despite having to read subtitles, he loved how it kept him engaged. While he started to drift off when the characters were talking too much, there was a fight scene or compelling drama to wake him up again. Speaking of the fight scenes, they were his favorite part about the movie. Swords and people were literally flying, everything flowed so freely, it was like nothing he’d ever seen before.
Sebek: Indiana Jones
A classic “hero’s journey” type of movie would be up Sebek’s alley, and this is one of the all-time classics. While he kept criticizing Indie and loudly proclaiming what he or Malleus would do in any plot point, he enjoyed the novelty of it, and he sees why the film is so famous.

LAYER ONE: THE OUTSIDE
Tumblr media
name: [_ _ _ _ _ _ _] , but known more commonly as "Angel"
eye color: Blue- a shade that seems too deep to be natural.
hair style/color: Blonde and silky- will form locks if it's down, but most commonly worn in an ornate bun.
height: Most often 5'11"
clothing style: A simple sort of ethereal- her usual robes are white, and flowy enough to keep her comfortable without limiting her movement. If she's wearing human clothes, she'll tend to drift towards light/neutral colors, and "academia" type clothing- but she's been known to enjoy a sundress from time to time, and won't mind experimenting with new trends or items she hasn't encountered before.
best physical feature: If you ask her, her wings!! She also has a positive view of her own scars. (But if you ask the mun, her face- her resting expression is what makes her seem approachable and warm!!)
LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE.
your fears: " I don't know if I truly fear much of anything anymore, aside from failing those dear to me here. I'd go through anything to keep that from happening. "
your guilty pleasure: " ... I didn't understand how to use a microwave for a short time, and would laser food instead to heat it up ... I still do it sometimes ... "
your ambitions for the future: “ It used to be saving Kazuya's soul, and that alone- nowadays, I'm a little less sure ... I think that, should any other conflict of supernatural proportions arise, my aim is to prevent or limit any damage to Earth that they'd cause. "
LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS.
your first thoughts waking up: " Although I do not truly sleep, I'm usually very excited for new things I will learn about! For instance, there was this interesting recipe for cake rolls, and ... "
what you think about most: " An equal split between things I can no longer change, and the things I can make better today. ”
what you think about before bed: " I still don't tend to sleep, dear asker! But I usually think about my family come nighttime, and the humans come morning. "
what you think your best quality is: " My dedication, I think. I love strongly, and I'm not one to give up easily- though it can be just as much of a curse as it is a blessing. ”
WHAT’S BETTER?
single or group dates: “ Hm ... I suppose either would be alright for me, though single sounds lovely. I'd just be content to be around the person who'd asked me on one. ”
to be loved or respected: “ Respected. I can't ask or expect everyone to love me as I love them, but I can only hope they would respect me enough to allow me to try. ”
beauty or brains: “ Heart. ”
dogs or cats:  “ Yes !”
LAYER FIVE: DO YOU…
lie:  “ By a literal definition, no- but if you'd consider a lie to be an omission of the truth, then .. Rarely. ”
believe in yourself: “ More now than I used to. ”
believe in love: “ Always .”
want someone: “ ... ”
LAYER SIX: EVER BEEN…
been on stage: “ I suppose the type of stage would be important.. Perhaps, a few times, though I wasn't the main focus. ”
done drugs: “ ... From the drugstore? I did try an antihistamine once ! ”
changed who you were to fit in: “ Yes, and I'd like to think I've gotten plenty of practice. I can't just walk around Earth with wings on full display. ”
LAYER SEVEN: FAVORITES.
favorite color: “ Off whites and blues. Maybe gold, too .. ”
favorite animal: “ I enjoy all of them, but rabbits and avian creatures have a special place in my heart .”
favorite movie: “ I've very recently finished Kiki's Delivery Service! "
favorite game: “ Animal Crossing! I enjoy speaking to the villagers. "
LAYER EIGHT: AGE.
day your next birthday will be: “ I don't think I've ever celebrated a birthday of mine- and it would be rather difficult to translate it to a human calendar ... ”
how old will you be: “ To angels, or to humans? ”
age you lost your virginity: “ ...? What do you mean lost ? I didn't set it down somewhere, did I ? "
does age matter: “ I suppose so ..? I think I'm usually perceived as being around my late twenties or early thirties by most humans, and I would generally apply that sort of age range to anyone else. ”
LAYER NINE: IN A PERSON.
best personality: " I don't think I would have much of a preference, but I'm usually drawn to people who are considerate. "
best eye color: “ No preference. ”
best hair color: “ No preference. ”
best thing to do with a partner: " Goodness, I don't usually think about this .. I would be happy doing anything they'd enjoy, really. I enjoy getting to learn about what others enjoy. It makes me feel more complete, if that makes sense ? ”
LAYER TEN: FINISH THE SENTENCE.
i love: “ Earth.”
i feel: “ Grounded.”
i hide: “ Pain. ”
i miss: “ The way things were before. ”
i wish: “ I could have done more. ”
TAGGED BY: @demonsfate !! Thank you for the tag, this was so much fun!! 💜

in too much pain/too uncomfortable to get any real sleep so in my delicate state i figured why not just put kiki's delivery service on to doze to except i forgot the scene that happens almost immediately where her dad hugs her spins her around and lifts her in the air to say goodbye and due to the fact that i have no defenses right now, i: burst into spontaneous bawling

Get to know a simmer!
thank you sooo much @seokolat for the tag!! 😄
Show Your Wallpaper: I've shown my phone wallpaper a couple of times (like here 😉) but my desktop wallpaper right now is this picture from Copperdale that I love.
Tumblr media
Last Song You Listened To: Red Sun from Metal Gear Rising
Currently Reading: You'll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus which is... Okay she relies a lot on stereotypes in her writing which is... Not great but I always want to know what happened in the mystery. This one is definitely the least interesting though. (that sounds so harsh sorry!)
Last Movie: I think it was Creed 3 last weekend
Last Show: Worst Cooks in America! Just finished season 23 and I forgot how much of a comfort show that is.
Craving: I was craving celery but I had it for lunch so I'm good now.
What are you wearing right now? A turtleneck poncho and pajamas (my pants have lemons on them 😁)
How tall are you? 5' 4"
Piercings: None but I play every once in a while with the idea of a nose piercing... I think I have too many allergies for it but... I kind of want one 😅
Tattoos: Still just the one! It's of JiJi from Kiki's Delivery Service 😄 Going to maybe get a coffee cup or a ghost that I drew next. I've been really wanting like a skeleton or something though.
Glasses/Contacts: Both! I haven't worn my contacts in a while because allergies, so I've been wearing my rainbow glasses full time.
Last thing you ate: M&Ms 😋
Favorite Color: I don't think I have a favorite color because it changes so much but right now it's mint green... For some reason.
Current Obsession: My booook. The next nanowrimo event is in July and I am so excited. Currently outlining my draft so I'll be prepared (for once) 😁
Any pets: Nope!
Favorite Fictional Character: Same with favorite colors it changes too much but right now I think that (other than my own 😆) honsetly it might be Ulrike Faust because I'm reading CharmingMushroom's story and Ulrike might officially be my favorite townie and it makes me want to write stuff for her again. So, yeah, in an Ulrike phase... Again.
Last Place You Traveled: A small ocean town a few hours from where I live and it's so beautiful~ I wish I could live there like that would be the best 😊
And I think I'll tag @akitasimblr @charmingmushroom @buttertrait @salemssimblr @rainymoodlet but feel free to ignore it if you don't want to do it or already did (I didn't really check who had done it already tbh... 😬)

Hey, I just wanted to say that your story "Numb" is coming out at the perfect time for me.
I'm going thru one of the worst things in my entire life right now and alot of the depression Alex is feeling really really resonates with me.
I love your stories and seeing Alex eventually get the kind of love and consideration he so desperately deserves helps me with my own struggles. So thank you ❤
I don’t even know what to say to this, except that it’s one of the reasons I write, and that I’m so glad you’ve found some comfort in it ❤️❤️❤️
I understand I’m writing some heavy stuff this time, but Alex has always been so inspiring to me because he faces some of the darkest stuff in the series and he doesn’t let it define him. This project is also easily the darkest I’ve ever worked on, and nothing that explicit happens, it’s just the whole way Alex thinks in it. That said, it’s important to acknowledge the tougher moments when hope feels fragile, and I think Alex deserves no less than to be allowed to break every once in a while. The show forced him to push aside his pain time and time again because the writers didn’t deem him important enough to let him feel and be comforted. I, and many others like me, I’m sure, identify with Alex most as he feels like the most real character, and since the show didn’t honor that by letting him feel, I’m going to do it myself, and I couldn’t be happier that someone else can connect to that ❤️
(Friendly advice: I’ve found tea, Kiki’s Delivery Service playing in the background, and something creative and hands-on helps anchor me, if even a little bit, so I’m recommending that as one person who knows all too well the throes of depression to another ❤️)

wip inspiration tag.
the tag was started by @goose-books
you know i Love to talk. so i might reblog this various times with other wips to show you what inspired them. starting with my current main wip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm kinda bad at keeping track of my inspirations, especially because i tend to take things in parts to inspire my own stories (see: not taking the entire premise of the magnus archives but instead just the concept of things like the hunt or the lonely). so i did my best here!
EVERGREEN LUNG; ezra borja died, then she undied. woke up in the local forest with no memory of what happened and she returns to find out what felt like passing out overnight was a year of being gone, she's missed high school graduation and there is a disconnect now between her and her best friend. with something taking root inside ezra. a story where being aroace is represented through a sentient forest.
HELL FOLLOWED WITH US: i hadn't read hell followed with us before conceptualising the concept of evergreen lung, in part because the book wasn't even out yet. hell followed with us is "queerness as monstrosity for the trans" and evergreen lung is "queerness as monstrosity for the aroaces". both ezra and benji perceived the thing inside them as something separate but we all know that's just a metaphor for who they are inherently. seraph transforms benji's body and the forest makes it so ezra has trouble connecting with people. hell followed with us is just a little more brutal in its body horror because that's part of the book's appeal. but suffice to say i think benji and ezra would get along.
THE RAVEN CYCLE: okay. i would be lying if i said the whole sentient forest idea didn't come from the raven cycle. adam parrish is my favourite character and 90% of it is because he has magic powers linked to a sentient forest. ezra doesn't have psychic powers, though, and her "deal" with the forest has fewer rules and a more blurry line of consent. also not to mention the character of juan diego is adam parrish inspired just because. it's mostly aesthetic though.
MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO & KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE: i included these for the ~vibes~ mostly. my neighbour totoro has some gorgeous nature imagery (that really most studio ghibli movies have i could just include lots of scenery stills from various movies tbh) and i hope to capture that energy of a forest that feels like it could give you a hug. there's also something about the soft and quaint life of the characters. evergreen lung is a very tender book, focusing a lot on atmosphere. ursa from kiki's delivery service is ezra's ideal. both movies also have wholesome family dynamics which ezra has with her parents. you get a sense of how much they mean to each other.
OVER THE GARDEN WALL: there isn't a lot of the vibe of otgw in evergreen lung per se. the vibes of otgw are a little too dark. otgw, however, is the inspiration for the story ezra's parents originate from. so i'm adding it to the roster. i won't be going into detail about what the parents get up to, though those events are technically canon and did happen to ezra's parents. it isn't important and i would rather it stay a mystery you'll only get hints of through the small fantasy aspects of xiomara, katalina and caleb.
tagging: @saltwaterbells @chayscribbles @thelittlestspider @moonssugar @derridaspectres @coffeeandcalligraphy anyone else who wants to do this is welcome to!

hi hi hi today's reminder is a (non exhaustive) list of films I've never actually seen but somehow they've gotten into my personality through osmosis or some shit: mamma mia, legally blonde, all but like four Ghibli movies, just about every horror film apart from the Conjuring, gone girl
(i do one day plan on watching all of them except the horror stuff i scare way too easy)
bonus, trash that i wish would leave my system but it seems it's there to stay: the vampire diaries, the 2.5 seasons of Riverdale i managed to sit through, one tree hill, supernatural… there's a pattern here and i guess i should be glad that network went bankrupt or whatever happened to them
Hii, wait I also have never watched mamma mia, I know a lot of the songs cause of Abba but never watched it. I've also only seen four studio Ghibli movies my favorites are Kiki's Delivery service and howls moving castle. And every scary movie I've watched aside from the grudge 2 was against my will. I spent two whole scary movies once in my friends lap so I can hide from the TV. I also scare easily but I'm not allowed to choose movies with my friends. My best friend got so mad when I chose Heathers once, to be fair I settled cause i couldn't find The Craft and I was just as underwhelmed, like that's a cult classic? gosh I'd rather watch Jawbreaker with Rose McGowan, they did high school mean girls way better, may I even say better than Mean Girls. Speaking of I just know you'll love legally blonde, it's so good one of my favorites.
The fact theyre all CW shows, I totally feel that. I was forced to watch supernatural against my will cause it was always on the living room TV. I just stayed to watch cause of Jared Padelecki. Same with the Gilmore girls. I actually really love Gilmore girls, every fall I make pumpkin treats and watch the Gilmore girls that network did one thing right. I made a pumpkin loaf the other day and put this sugar free caramel syrup I found on top of it and it was good. Also the Gilmore girls theme is the best theme song along with the clueless show theme song. I miss theme songs, what happened to theme songs? I could not finish a single episode of vampire diaries and, how did Riverdale last so long. I liked Cheryl as a character okay I had a crush on Cheryl\Madeline Petsch. But seriously what was that show even about? I never understood anything that was going on even before the whole cult witch thing. I still think original 90s Sabrina The Teenage Witch is the only good Archie comic tv adaptation. It's still my favorite TV show and you know how some shows you watched as a kid you struggle to watch it as an adult Sabrina and Dharma & Greg are the only ones I don't feel that with also Frasier. Pretty much any show I was too young to watch as a child I can watch as an adult. Children shouldn't have unsupervised access to things.

ahh, have you watched the new avatar film? i haven't, but i heard it was good. i must ask… have you watched atla? also, i've seen so many scenes from that r+j film, but i haven't watched it — i will soon now though bc of you :) also… calling yourself an aesthete is so accurate pff your blog really does give off that word "aesthete"
i haven't watched constantine either, but the description seems cool — not sure why, but it reminds me of those angel x devil fanfics 💀 10 things about you was sooo cute!! AND YESSSSSSSS OMGG I LOVE TANGLED SMMMMM and mulan is so 💞💓💕💖💘 that makes me so happy to read that you also love tangled 🥹 i haven't watched the lion king live action, but now it's added to my list! you… you also like mcu. and ghibli… wow. you are perfect. but you..YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED SPIDERVERSE??! no, this really is a crime. a sin, even. you MUST watch it one day!! also, howl is so 💘💞💓💕💖 and the whole story behind "there you are, sweetheart. i was looking all over for you" makes me so.. 💕💞💓💖 OKAY, no but seriously ghibli films are amazing :,) have you watched all the ghibli films or just some?
yes, i have watched the way of water and i really really liked it, im so happy i didn't wait thirteen years just to be disappointed!!!!!!! and im so so looking forward to the upcoming avatar films. and yes, i have also watched atla, maybe two years ago (very late to the party, but as a kid i never watched it, if i was doing zapping and happened to land on nickelodeon and they were broadcasting atla i would change channels immediately because i could NOT stand it, i don't know why but i hated it so much!) and i reallyyyyy enjoyed it, especially the third season, zuko's redemption arc is so well done and his honesty was kind of adorable. but i didn't like korra, never finished it.
im so happy you're going to watch romeo+juliet !! let me just say, don't be weirded out by the first ten minutes, i promise if you get past them the movie is good. i swear. “not sure why, but it reminds me of those angel x devil fanfics” this was so funny. i was giggling, blushing, kicking my feet in the air when i read you call me perfect, you're too nice hahaha.
AND YES, “THERE YOU ARE, SWEETHEART, I WAS LOOKING ALL OVER FOR YOU” HAS ME ON A CHOKEHOLD. i just love howl so much. i have such a crush on him. i sadly haven't watched all ghibli films, only howl's, spirited away, kiki's delivery service, grave of the fireflies (i love it but i could never watch it again) and totoro. i have to finish princess mononoke but i will probably restart it because ive had it on hold for months, ive watched random snippets of ponyo and when the wind rises and i have yet to watch marnie, arrietty, whispers of the heart, nausicaä... i realise i haven't watched that many now that im writing this (probably because 9 out of 10 times i decide to watch howl's) but im happy because there're still many left for me to enjoy!

Chris Watches Kiki’s Delivery Service for the First Time
* I swore the word “flying” was somewhere in the title here but I guess that’s one of those Berenstein Bears things
* Kiki looks EXACTLY like the girl in the totoro movie, lazy animators
* Sabrina the Teenage Witch vibes, love it
* Moving to a new home to start off the plot of a Ghibli movie 3 for 3
* SASSY TALKING CAT ITS SALEM
* Wait a second, witches kicking their 13 year old kids out for a full year? Sounds Not Great
* I love the radio attached to her broom and I love the way the theme song was written in lol
* I like the idea of a world where people know witches are real and are cool with it
* Sassy cat is getting to be a bit Much
* So like what makes this girl a witch though because she hasn’t done any magic she just flies on a broom??
* This Tombo guy is way too thirsty. Calm down, creepy Where’s Waldo lookalike
* Loving this setting of Fantasy Nonsensical Europe
* bro if I got chased by flying geese I’d be freaking out, not laughing about it
* Okay the cat speaks Goose- HOLY SHIT THE WIND JUST OBLITERATED THAT BIRD LMAO
* The dog is named Jeff
* They made a sign out of bread omg
* Kiki is very gay and she doesn’t have time for you Tombo
* I started watching these movies with subs only like I usually do but these are some really quality dubs
* Why does every old woman in these movies look the same and by that I mean creepy
* That girl who doesn’t want her grandmas pie… I’d shove that thing down her throat for no extra charge omg
* Oh NO did the cat turn into a real cat?? I miss the sass suddenly
* WHY ISNT SHE A WITCH ANYMORE WHATS HAPPENING
okay that was cute. I definitely zoned out closer to the end but I appreciate the original stories of these movies. I still liked Totoro the best but I think I’ll do Howl’s Moving Castle next bc that’s another one I’ve heard a lot about?

Movies I watched in 2022
I kept track of this last year and it was fun, so I'm doing it again! I realize literally no one asked, but here is an extremely long and pointless rundown of every movie I watched this year. Complete with commentary and IMDB links. For posterity or whatever.
As before, I counted movies I'd already seen, but I didn't double up on movies I watched more than once in 2022 - which happened a fair amount as I am a serial re-watcher and comfort-movie-haver. I also didn't include a handful of movies that I put on as background noise while doing other things and didn't truly Watch.
January:
1. Zombieland (2009) - Okay the CGI is pretty freaking bad. But it's still a funny and cleverly-executed take on a zombie movie that holds up pretty well 13 years later.
2. Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) - This is pretty much exactly what you want from a sequel - more of the same with the whole main cast returning, but taken a little bit further with lots of callbacks. It was perfectly fun, but just a little too silly for me I think.
3. Brazen (2022) - Imagine my surprise when I played some new Netflix crime thriller on a whim only to discover that it's based on a romance novel from the '80s that I've actually read! I didn't even make the connection until the opening credits, despite the title and the trailer. Anyway, this movie was...almost good? Like the pieces were there, but it came off pretty much daytime soap.
4. Collide (2016) - This is another case of a movie thinking it was gonna be much cooler than it was—as evidenced by the all-star cast despite some pretty shaky writing—but tbh it was still pretty cool? I love a car movie, and I love a heist movie, and I love an action adventure that centers on a love story (although I dock points for fridging).
5. Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) - Guess who just saw this for the first time? It was me! But clearly this movie is charming at any age. It's the very definition of sweet and lovely, and the animation style is so beautiful (of course). Also Jiji is everything!!!
6. Mission: Impossible (1996) - I LOVE these movies. I'd forgotten that the first movie is really more of a classic cold war spy thriller, with a lot of intrigue and heisting and not so much action. Which I think is so smart and so much more compelling. I had a blast.
7. Mission: Impossible II (2000) - I know this movie has always been lauded as the terrible, outlier Mission Impossible movie that no one likes—and I agree that it's a hard deviation from the rest in terms of style and it IS objectively the worst of the bunch—but I really enjoyed it. More than I remembered. It has some glaring issues, but sometimes you just want to watch Tom Cruise driving a motorcycle through fire in slow motion from 3 camera angles, or doing the same backflip kick move 7 times, also in slow motion, and that's VALID.
8. Mission: Impossible III (2006) - Are you sensing a theme here? I think this might be my favorite M:I movie. It's really stylish and slick without being too over the top, and I LOVE a macguffin as the story engine of an adventure film! It keeps things simple and leaves room for more character stuff—which this movie does a pretty decent job of. Also talk about your great villains.
February:
9. Nightmare Alley (1947) - Spooky and atmospheric and compelling and fun! What is it about vintage carnivals? It's just THE vibe. Curious to see how the new adaptation holds up.
10. Nightmare Alley (2021) - Naturally, GDT's version of this movie is a spectacular visual treat, and leans in to the Fucked Up Magical Realism of it all in a way that really works for the story. But this version is WAY too long and monologue-y, with more added detail than truly necessary. It also leapfrogs over the 'fun and games' bit of screenwriting structure that really made the first movie sing, imho. It's a cool film, but I enjoyed watching the original a lot more.
11. Book of Love (2022) - This shit was so cute! Also, in a scathing indictment of modern cinema, I was shocked to discover that this isn't even an adaptation of anything! It was a clever and lovely and original romance that gets bonus points for being fairly bilingual - not entirely, but they actually do a good job of having characters who are native Spanish speakers actually speak Spanish with subtitles when talking to each other. I wish it had a little more of an epilogue though. Which I could say about so many stories, but especially romcoms. I'm going to become a youtuber JUST so I can make a video essay about the importance of showing the status quo change at the end of a story!!!
12. The Hating Game (2021) - I realize I'm completely biased by my preexisting affinity for the novel, but this movie is so much fun!! And, as I've said before, a really faithful adaptation! It's extremely silly and has a few writing issues, especially in the second half, but I don't care I love it.
13. Plus One (2019) - I LOVED this movie when it came out but I only saw it the once so I was curious to see if I'd still love it a whole pandemic later—and I do! It's fun and banter-y and, imho, a good example of a comedy that is about people who are actually funny, like, as part of their personality. Rather than essentially blank people who "funny" things happen to, like so many romcoms.
14. A Long Way Down (2014) - Aww, this movie was lovely! It's not a super original concept but a good one, and executed well. A stellar cast and just a great...well, not quite found family story, but it has similar beats and I like that it's about something slightly more than that. Also Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots should play love interests in all the movies. This is the second one I've seen and they're so cute.
15. Austenland (2013) - The perfect, confectionary Valentine's Day treat! Not that there's ever a bad time to watch this absolute GEM. It's bonkers and adorable and so much fun.
16. I Want You Back (2022) - Nothing earth-shattering but I think the characterization of the two mains was actually kind of poignant and nuanced. Also Jenny Slate is hilarious always. Why am I watching so many romantic comedies? Is it because it's Valentine's month and that's where my brain and also the Algorithm™ are pointing? Super probably. Anyway.
March:
17. West Side Story (2021) - I'm honestly not sure we really needed another adaptation of this. And this one was extremely long. But I always love a musical, it has to be said, and this one was no exception. I really love the look of it - how they made it look like kind of a cross between an actual stage play, and those detailed, built facades that were movie sets back when the original movie came out. I also love how they lit and composed every scene between Tony and Maria to make it look dreamy and incredible and highlight how they were in their own little world, and then dropped the dreamy lighting and framing as soon as their moment was over.
18. Star Trek (2009) - I just listened to the episode of Beyond the Screenplay about this movie and I was intrigued by so much of their conversation on how it ties into and diverts from the original series. It was fun to watch this movie through that lens. Also just so many charming performances.
19. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) - I mean I watched one, so it only made sense to watch the next. It was almost equally fun! Although I was not inspired to watch the third movie, so.
20. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) - Geez Louise this movie hit me unexpectedly. I was anticipating multiverse spider-man(s) hi-jinx which I DID get and it was SO GOOD, but there was less than I'd hoped, and this movie is ultimately pretty fucking bleak. It's clearly designed to set up Multiverse of Madness so I guess they can undo or redo anything they want, but oof. I am straight-up Bummed Out™.
April:
21. All The Old Knives (2022) - This movie did it perfectly fine, but I'm not the biggest fan of stories that keep flashing between the past and present. It's impressive writing and it definitely can be really cool to use it for a reveal that totally changes the meaning of something you've already seen, but, imho, when you use it as the whole story engine it A. kills the forward momentum of the action and B. robs the emotional significance out from under everything because you're just constantly seeing heavy subtext you couldn't possibly parse, and then seeing even more before the first pays off. I find it a little frustrating and boring (see: Arrow). But this movie was still cool.
22. The Batman (2022) - Okay this movie is almost 3 full hours and it took me 2 tries and then 4 sittings to watch it which I'm sure was not the intended or preferred moviegoing experience™ but I simply could not get through it any other way, my friends. Also this movie was so (literally) dark I have no idea what was going on in half the scenes. And a lot of the dialogue was just SO on the nose I mean it was fine but can we have just a little bit more subtext people, please. HOWEVER it was still pretty dope. I like that it wasn't bonkers action-y and was a little more noir/hard-boiled detective vibes. And I love this new turn of weird, soggy sewer rat Batman.
May:
23. Firestarter (2022) - This was my first theater movie since 2019! There were only 2 other people in the theater, because it turns out this movie has 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, which I did not realize when I purchased my ticket. Having seen it, this does not surprise me. It's pretty bad. BUT I like Zac Efron, I like an angry young girl with powers, and I'm glad for a return to weird little 90-minute movies.
24. 2:22 (2017) - Big fan of the cerebral romantic drama with a sci-fi twist! I think the premise is amazing and the performances are good and I loved it's whole style and vibe, but I'm not sure all the mechanics fit together as well as they maybe could have. I still really liked it though.
25. Contact (1997) - The peak of alien sci-fi cinema in my book. This movie rules so hard. I love the '90s character archetype of brazen adventure-science woman. (See also: Helen Hunt in Twister, and Laura Dern in Jurassic Park). And I love a flat change arc with huge themes.
June:
26. Jonathan (2018) - This movie has a legitimately fun premise and the first half was cool but the second half just kinda fizzled and rolled to a vague stop without doing anything to tie up the themes or pay off the details that it set up. Pass.
27. Need for Speed (2014) - I love this movie so much. I've literally seen it 20 times. I just like a car movie! I don't give a shit about cars IRL but car/racing movies just have a distinctive style and set of tropes associated with them that is so fun to me. And this one in particular has a great premise and cool locations a fantastic cast that was clearly having an amazing time and I love it so much. Also my power is out so I don't have internet and this is the only thing I had downloaded.
July:
27. The Princess (2022) - Okay, so I love the concept of a reverse rescue-the-princess story where instead of a prince fighting his way up the tower to get to the princess, the princess wakes up locked in the tower and must fight her way down. I just wish this movie did a little more with it? Like they sorta tried to break the movie into 'levels' of the tower, but if they leaned into that way more it would have been awesome. The action stuff was kinda cool and I actually like that they were a little silly and anachronistic with it, but it just didn't hang together for me. The tone was inconsistent, the pacing was weird, and the movie did basically zero character work. And I'm bummed out because I feel like there could be a version of this movie that's SO fun and memorable—a la A Knight's Tale or something— but this isn't it.
28. Last Night in SoHo (2021) - Yoooo I loved this movie. I mean I am firmly an Edgar Wright fan, so I guess I'm biased, but it was so cool. We love a neon-soaked movie. We love '60s music. We love time travel—or something like it. All vibes. I didn't really love how the third act wrapped up - it sorta took a hard turn - and also we really should have seen Sam Clafin's character at least one more time than we did for everything to work. But I forgive it.
29. A Nice Girl Like You (2020) - For me personally, this was a movie with a premise/tone that I didn't find particularly fun or interesting but was saved by really solid performances and pretty flawless screenwriting structure. It was a little dated, raunchy, and cringy for my own tastes, but it hit every beat right on the head with a cast that seemed to have chemistry and have fun and I respect that. Also not for nothing but I think I might have a full-on crush on Lucy Hale.
30. Monsters (2010) - I was in college when this movie came out and I remember my roommate at the time being obsessed with it and making me watch it, but I haven't seen or thought about it again until it popped up on HBO Max today. It's a 90-minute indie monster movie that's high-tension but low-action, open-ended, and really only about two people, which is exactly the kind of story stuff I'm all about. Great work everyone.
31. Kimi (2022) - Ohh another unique, 90-minute, blessedly simple, and character-driven thriller! Let's keep it up, team. I really enjoyed this one—and oof the stuff the heroine is going through at the start of the movie is Big Relatable in this COVID world of ours.
32. The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021) - Bro, I'm on a roll with my last few movies. This one was extremely delightful! Y'all know how much I love a time travel/time loop movie and this one was so sweet. Also the dude in this movie (*checks notes* Kyle Allen) is going be a star he's so good.
33. Above the Shadows (2019) - This is one of those slightly frustrating movies that - imho - has a great premise and great cast and could have been AMAZING, but had a couple writing issues that made it just okay. But I still enjoyed it!
34. Jurassic Park (1993) - I mean, a legendary, ultimate classic. What more is there to say? We need more 'monster' movies that are simple and cool with a degree of whimsy and awe. The '90s were great at this, let's bring it back! Also I'm about to rewatch all the JP movies in preparation for Dominion so buckle up.
35. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) - This one is markedly less whimsical than the first, with much more violence and much more annoying villains. But the cute chemistry and easy affection between Jeff Goldblum and his daughter and Julianne Moore is delightful. Also I do appreciate the turn of the dinosaurs being completely innocent and the greedy humans being even more cartoonishly evil.
36. Jurassic Park III (2001) - This movie is actually great?? I love that it's a bit more of a return to form, with Alan and Ellie of course, but also just with general fun. The horror-esque reveal of the pterodactyl and the ringing phone signaling the proximity of the t-rex are both EXCELLENT.
37. Purple Hearts (2022) - I took a break from the dinos to watch a ridiculously sappy and overwrought romance because I can't resist them. HOWEVER. This one was fucking awful. (And I am not that picky re: this genre.) The pacing and tone was all over the place, the writing was sloppy, and also it's some major military propaganda and the characters go through basically no change!!! Oof. OOF!!!
38. Jurassic World (2015) - Okay we're back and oh my god I forgot that this movie kinda fucking slaps?? It's honestly the perfect way to continue a franchise, and I love the shift of the original film being about the hubris of how, in this dawning technological age, we're doing every awesome science thing we can think of because we can, and who cares about the consequences. To this one being about KNOWING what a terrible idea it is but doing it anyway and doing it MORE because of corporate greed (although the parallels there to rebooting a cash cow film series are not lost on me). But even so, this movie is bright and fun and cool and the story is blessedly simple and I really love it.
39. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) - I like this movie a lot, but it occurs to me that the two JP movies that actually take place in a working park are by far the most fun. The visual trappings of a theme park and something so happy turning so awful is really compelling. And so are the built-in boundaries of being confined inside the park over the course of one day. Really only the original film and the first Jurassic World have that. For the rest, the world is already in chaos and there are essentially no boundaries or much ticking clock at all - which is fine, but there's just something less urgent and Too Big about it for me, personally.
40. Jurassic World Dominion (2022) - Weirdly, this movie might have a few TOO many dinosaurs? I feel like the past movies revealed dinosaurs at key moments but in this one I'm pretty sure there's literally never someone not getting attacked by a dinosaur (or a giant bug 😟!!!) But also I loved it! I loved getting the whole gang(s) back together, and the updated feathered dinos! And the baby dinos!
41. The Gray Man (2022) - I wanted this movie to be better? It was cool overall, and there was some stuff I really liked, but it was SUPER long and big stretches were kinda boring and I personally felt like it spent too much time on all the wrong character dynamics. Poor Ana de Armas got basically zero motivation or plot work at all. We learn nothing about her and you could almost literally just edit her out of this movie and absolutely nothing changes. A bummer.
August:
42. Encanto (2021) - Guess who cried twice during this movie? It was me. I'm so glad I finally watched this it was so beautiful in every way. My heart is full. Also shoutout to the CinemaWins video about this movie for making me pause that video and watch it immediately.
43. The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) - Oh look it's me, crying at the second movie in one night (I've been kinda going through it the past few weeks I think I was subconsciously seeking catharsis via tearjerkers). Anyway, time travel and epic romance are my two most favorite things in fiction so it's no wonder to anyone that I adore this movie.
44. Uncharted (2022) - Listen I'm just generally down for a bog-standard swashbuckling, map-poring, treasure-seeking adventure movie. This one isn't really anything special but I was passably charmed and if they make more, I'll watch 'em.
45. Persuasion (1995) - I've actually never read Persuasion nor experienced any adaptation of it until now. I loved it! And, to my own surprise since I often rant about these things, I love that this movie doesn't really spend time explaining Anne and Wentworth's specific history. I don't know if/how much the novel does either, but it's kind of remarkable how much it doesn't really matter. I also love that it appears to be shot entirely on location with barely any lighting setups, color grading, or even much time spent on hair and makeup.
46. The Lost City (2022) - Hee! As a great lover of both romance novels and cheesy adventure movies, this combination of the two was - maybe a TOUCH slapstickier than I would have liked - but overall EXTREMELY delightful. More weird and silly hijinx movies!!! please!!
47. Inside the Mind of a Cat (2022) - I guess this is more of an hour-long Netflix special than a real movie and it also seems like a good dose of pseudoscience to me, but I literally don't care! It was 60 minutes of cute kitties!
September:
48. Love in the Villa (2022) - This is an objectively bad movie held together entirely by Kat Graham and Tom Hopper being great scene partners and excellent comedic actors. I can't quite say I hated it, but it's also. Not good. At all.
October:
49. Black Widow (2021) - Finally got around to watching this! Tbh this movie was like a decade overdue and not really worth the wait to me, personally, but it was still fun! I love weird family hi-jinx!
50. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) - Once again, I'm kinda burned out on Marvel movies and also this was a late-night watch after a long day of hiking, drinking, and general carousing during a family vacation, thus I was nodding off for some of it. But I liked it! It was more unique than most Marvel movies of recent memory.
51. Fifty Shades of Grey (2015) - Not to bring this up AGAIN, but I am a longtime lover of ridiculous romance novels. As such, I am used to their General Nonsense and legitimately enjoy this movie (and the other two) for exactly what they are. Which is ridiculous. I make no excuses for the weird and the problematic, I just think wildly over-the-top romance is the best. Also, this first movie really did try to do something interesting with the story before the franchise was throttled by EL James. (I highly recommend Dan Olsen's video essay about this).
52. Fifty Shades Darker (2017) - Like I said, I just kinda like these movies. I'm not proud of it. And even though the first is by far the best objectively, I think this one is my favorite? Just for silly aesthetic and trope-y reasons.
53. The Choice (2016) - I loved this movie!!! I'm a sucker for all the Nicholas Sparks movies I have to admit (you're shocked), but this one might be my favorite yet?? Excellent use of my favorite tropes re: silly and banter-y couples, and agonizing romantic beats.
54. The Host (2013) - I feel like this movie was generally panned as more YA nonsense given its source material, and then instantly forgotten about, but I actually love it! I think it's really beautiful aesthetically and the score is amazing and william hurt is weirdly SO good in his role and it's romantic and dramatic and I've seen it a bunch of times.
55. Free Guy (2021) - This movie is so silly, but it's also reasonably heartfelt and creative and I just think it's fun.
56. Avatar (2009) - The movie, the myth, the legend. With the sequel allegedly coming out, I was curious to revisit the original. The actual storyline is whatever (slash slightly problematic) but the premise is really cool and the effects are amazing.
57. The Age of Adaline (2015) - Me? Watching sweeping romantic dramas and things related to time travel? Groundbreaking. But anyway I enjoyed this movie. I kinda wanted them to do a little more with the concept, but overall it was lovely. Also whoever that guy is who played young Harrison Ford deserved to be in more than 2 scenes he fucking crushed it.
58-61. The Hunger Games Series (2012-2015) - I LOVED these books and I remember being a little disappointed by the movies at the time, but having just watched them all again y'know what? They're pretty good. And they hold up.
62. Happy Death Day (2017) - This was my Halloween movie choice! Again! I truly never get sick of it. It's more funny and clever than actually scary, but still leans on some spookiness and it's a delight. Carter and Tree are so cute which really sells the whole thing. Also you guys know how much I love a time loop. This move is kind of the gen Z answer to Scream and they nailed it.
November:
63. Dracula Untold (2014) - Okay honestly I just threw this on at random for something to watch while I organized my books into my new IKEA media stand, expecting it to be one of those nigh-unwatchable (to me) desaturated cyan fantasy/monster movies with endless meaningless exposition and monologues interrupted by boring and also endless sword fights...and it kinda was, except much better than most! I felt like it was a fun take on an overdone story and surprisingly character-driven. I won't say it's a great movie, but I didn't mind it.
December:
64. Rosaline (2022) - I loved it! I personally am a huge fan of the period-piece-but-not-really trend that's popular right now, where something takes place in the past and uses it as set dressing, but uses modern language and pop songs, etc. This movie was also even funnier than I expected—although I can't quite account for why some characters are American and some are British? Even from the same family? Did they just cast whoever and not care? Because that's actually great.
65. The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020) - I adore this movie. It's such a sweet concept, and the dialogue and chemistry between all the mains is so hilarious. Specifically the dynamic between the love interests, which I find incredibly endearing.
66. Penelope (2006) - One of my all-time favorites!!! I can't even count how many times I've seen this movie it makes me so happy. The choice to make it essentially a real-world story (minus the magic curse) but with a production design that is ever-so-slightly fantasy is so much fun. Also, I don't know if Peter Dinklage has any particular pride in or fondness for this role, but I hope he does because it's fucking note-perfect. His every expression and line delivery is hysterical.
67. Lady Chatterley's Lover (2022) - Eh. It was okay. I feel like this movie thought it was much sexier and more dramatic than it was. It also set up some wider stuff about the world of the movie that it never really followed up on. What happened to the miners and the town? With Bertha? Did anyone actually get divorced? Connie and Oliver had a whole Thing with realizing how much their dynamic would change if they were a regular/real couple outside of the lives they currently knew, but did they do anything to resolve it? We just don't know.
68. Mr. Right (2015) - This is one of my most-watched movies of all time it is goofy hi-jinx and endearing romance incarnate! Featuring two of my all-time favorite movie leads!
69. Ever After (1998) - 💜😍💚😍💚 a forever fave always. (also can you tell I'm getting bored of trying to track and review every single movie? Not sure I'm going to do this list again next year).
70. Knives Out (2019) - Never gets old! I rewatched in preparation for watching the new movie and I’m curious to see how they compare bc I love this one.
71. Glass Onion (2022) - I loved it! And Janelle Monae is a dang revelation in this movie. However (spoilers) I think whodunits are more fun when there’s a clear Murder to Solve- like in the first one. This one had maybe a few too many mysteries happening at once and starting late into the movie. I still loved it though.

[ GREASE ]  the sender and receiver fell in love in the summer of 1958. when the summer ends, there’s an anxiety that they’d never meet again and the sender promises that their love is “only just the beginning”.  receiver enrols at rydell and sees their love again but little do they realize that they stepped into a world of greaser gangs — one, lead by the sender too! — politics, teachers, and well ... grades?  — oh phewy! what to do?!
[ HAMLET ]  sender, is a commoner who went to university with the receiver, who happens to be the prince(ss) of denmark. the two of you are very close friends and are content with being just students in wittenberg, germany until one day the sender sees the ghost of the receiver’s father. with the receiver’s position as heir threatened, their mother now betrothed to their uncle — what will the two ever do?!
[ HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE ]  receiver, a young milliner and eldest of three sisters, encounters the sender, who is a wizard on their way to visit their sister lettie. upon returning home, they meets the witch of the waste, who transforms them into a ninety-year-old being. seeking to break the curse, the receiver leaves home and sets off through the countryside. somehow, they stumble into the sender’s magical house, castle, contraption thing — how is the receiver ever gonna break their curse?!
[ KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE ]  sender and receiver are both trainee witches who just left home with their respective black cats. they both end up at a small town by the sea. now, with a quest to complete their training, the two witches must figure out a way to use their powers effectively.
[ OCEAN’S EIGHT ]  the sender, recently came out of prison after a prolonged sentence. they come to gather their former team for one more big heist at the MET gala. the sender comes to the receiver with an offer for their unique expertise — will you say yes to being filthy rich or be boring and say no?
[ TITANIC ]  the sender and the receiver are on the HMS titanic during the 1920′s. there’s food! booze! gambling and so much more. it’s everything a luxury cruise could offer — but there’s always a catch. don’t let the iceberg hit you on your way out.
[ YOUR NAME ]  the receiver lives in a rural part of the country. bored out of their mind, they wished to be a city folk. one day, they wake up in the body of the sender, who lives in the city. some days they wake up in each other’s bodies, having to go through the day-to-day motions as one another and eventually figure out that they can communicate with one another through text messages.
