I’ve been wanting to make a patreon for stuff like this + art I don’t wanna post, so I’ve decided to go this route with the essay I will likely end up with based on this thesis. But I’ll use this post to summarize some thoughts im VERY confident about (and could be a sneak peek into what else the paper will entail)

C!tommy is fem-coded based off of fandom interpretation and reception, textual evidence, and meta analysis (will get more into meta in the big doc).

To start, a lot of this coding has to do with how he is victimized and why, which mainly concerns him craving approval from these older men (c!wilbur, c!dream, and even c!techno,) that he views as role models. Power imbalances are something that can also affect boys, yes, but this is where the coding comes in to set them apart. PLEASE REMEMBER Coding is used to identify traits that align with minority experiences, both good and bad. That does not mean c!tommy is LITERALLY a girl. It is a tool utilized in rhetorical analysis.

In this case, the constant subjugation of c!tommy by the men he yearns to trust, and subsequent self blame and denial when they hurt him fit into an experience closely associated with misogyny, and to go even further into the meta, a misogynistic view of feminine victimhood. The way c!tommy’s trauma interrupts his psychological and emotional development is received by thousands of fans who still deny his abuse even happened as “annoying”, “mean”, and “just as bad” as his perpetrator(s). This is observed from the existence of c!dream apologists and sympathizers, and to a more complicated extent, c!wilbur apologists. But I digress.

C!tommy is coded as feminine because in the majority of media centering victims of this kind of abuse, the character is a woman, and a woman can and will always be blamed for what happened to her. In the case of DSMP, this blame comes from the man who is protected by the spoils of his privilege as an oppressor, status in his community, and the many other people (predominantly young women) he has managed to manipulate to be in opposition to his victim. Fiction affecting real life and all…. Which is why I think this evidence of coding is so important.

To add another disclaimer for the bad faith warriors, being a victim does NOT make a character femme coded, however, the way he is treated in canon and the way the fanbase reacts to how he grapples with the lasting trauma is certainly rooted in misogynistic talking points.

I am just going to put this at the top : this post is going to be a long vent about missing Technoblade, please scroll on if you do not wish to read.

We are coming up on two years without him.

We are also coming up on three years since I discovered his content.

I thought I was at the point I could watch one of his videos tonight, as I used to often do when I am doing tasks or writing he was always the background noise I used. I remember calling into work when he streamed for the sheer sake of enjoying them while they happened the few times I caught them before...well. I think you know. He was the reason my passion for writing came back to life and I believed I could actually follow my lifelong dream of eventually publishing a story.

But I suppose the part I always forget about grief is the absence of the unique spirit that person brought to your life. I found his content and engaged with it instantly, developing one of the longest running fixations I have had in a good while. The sheer excitement I'd have getting the notification he went live for one of his rare streams.

I don't think it truly sunk in when he announced his diagnosis. I remember discussing it with the irl friend who got me into watching him and both of us laughed, saying he's strong enough to fight off anything.

A few months pass with his rare posts and there was always this tiny little bit of intuition I had where he never told us what severity of cancer it was. Like he was a very private guy, yes, but this seemed extra...odd.

Then I remember the way my heart sunk when 'so long nerds' popped into my notification bar. The dashing of my heart against the floor texting people as I tearfully listened to Technodad tell us the words his son Alex wished for us to hear.

Its been a long two years. Its been great ones, tbh. I found a new passion with QSMP and Hermitcraft after the finishing of DSMP [tho c!Techno will forever remain close to my heart]. I kept writing, with over half a million words in published fics on ao3 and several WIP including 3 original novels.

But the only one I ever wanted to thank for helping me find my creativity again I can't, and I never will be able to.

I miss Technoblade.

I will never stop missing him.

I wish he could have laughed with his friends for many years yet, being silently proud of their accomplishments while he messed with people on the QSMP. I wish he could have had another MCC with friends.

I wish his unique soul wasn't taken from us so soon, as we weren't done following our hero yet.

But the only thing I can do now is continue to speak his tales. The first book I properly publish, the gratitude page is going to be addressed to him. I will continue to tell others about his accomplishments and tell them to go watch his content on his Youtube channel [get him to 17 million!]! Buy some of his merch [when it comes back in stock]! Support his family & friends!

Though he would call us nerds for crying, I think its beautiful how many lives he touched and how many thousands mourned his passing. He was a light all corners of the MCYT sphere and beyond saw and respected, and not too many creators can claim such an honour.

I'll always be a Voice at my core. Even if I spend my time these days as a crow, a huevito, a ferret, a tubling, a doozer and many more, my heart will forever belong to Technoblade.

Please keep creating art and writing in his name. I love scrolling the fanart tags and adore every piece I come across with my favourite piglin in them. Please, please, please keep saying his name. Sing his legends. Make references, continue the jokes, hang out in one of his friends chats and support the people he loved.

Support those who are still here, even if your heart hurts.

It's only painful because we all loved him so much, which is a beautiful type of sorrow.

I didn’t even have any interaction with the DSMP and with you-know-who. I wasn’t around early enough for that. Still, I feel so fucking sick hearing about this, as an abuse victim but also as a fucking person. He mattered so much to our system even if he didn’t matter to me. We have so many DSMP fictives, including a fictive of his character in the DSMP, and shit’s been rough. It’s hard to hear that someone you were so attached to is a shit person, and it’s hard to realize that someone you watched to cope with abuse is a fucking abuser themself. What that man did is disgusting. He manipulated everyone. His friends, his partner, and his fans.

My last post about him was reminding people not to be dicks and to tell people that if they are being dicks to stay away from me, and I obviously still hold that view. If you claim to be standing with victims but go on to use that as an excuse to harass and threaten others who are innocent, you don’t actually stand with victims. You’re a piece of shit yourself. I genuinely feel so dizzy just making this post and reading about it, probably a combination of the entire system losing their shit and my own trauma and memories coming back to me as a flashback, so this is the last I’m going to say on this, but I wanted to make our stance on this situation abundantly fucking clear to everyone.

I want to officially state that I and the rest of my system support Shelby and all the victims who were harmed by Wilbur’s actions. I want to say it crystal fucking clearly that if you still support him, stay the fuck away from me and my system. I want nothing to fucking do with you. I don’t want to hear anything about it. Nothing you say will make me change my mind. What that man did is completely inexcusable and unforgivable. His shit “apology” doesn’t make it better.

Anyone who’s been triggered by this situation, please remember to take care of yourselves. After this, I’m taking a break from the Internet because if I don’t, I might pass out. Why I Believe Endersmile Is Canon

Because I’m on a bit of an Endersmile binge--

This is all gonna be very messy and just me putting my thoughts together and I’ll probably not be going through the VODs for exact timestamps or anything because that’s exhausting and I applaud the people who do, but here are my thoughts on Endersmile and why I’m 100% convinced it’s canon. They’re besties your honor.

/rp Any names mentioned are referring to their dsmp characters and not the streamers themselves unless specified

First off: The Disc. Dream trusts Ranboo, a lot. He trusts him so much that he literally gave Ranboo one of the two discs he needed to pull off his big plan at the finale. He trusted Ranboo, so much that Ranboo deciding to give the disc back to Tommy or Tubbo wasn’t an option, even though Ranboo was friends with both, which he knew. I don’t know why he gave Ranboo the disc, or how he got the disc from Skeppy in the first place, and I’m sure he did have a hundred and one back up plans for if Ranboo did decide to give Tommy the disc, but asking Ranboo to hold onto the disc in the first place means Dream trusted him to a degree, and that’s big coming from Mr. “Reserved”.

Second: Knowing Dream’s Voice. Ranboo knows/remembers Dream’s voice well enough that he hears it whenever he’s in the panic room, that his subconscious uses Dream’s voice to force Ranboo to confront his fears. For a guy who hasn’t had any one on one time or conversations with Dream in VC on stream, he sure does a really good job imagining his voice. /s 

Basically, they must have spoken, a lot. They must have spent time together outside planning for things or exchanging items or whatever. So much time, in fact, that Dream and Ranboo both end up sharing the same ideology of “People not sides” of “One big happy family” of “Being the person that stops conflicts” of “Being on all sides” of “Mediating between those sides” of “Choosing the side they think is right”. 

During Ranboo’s prison visit dream/nightmare, the Voice tells Ranboo that the only reason Ranboo hasn’t been hearing it lately, is because he hasn’t been speaking with Dream as often. That Ranboo and Dream had talked with each other nearly everyday. And I’m inclined to believe that because the mere existence of the voice proves he’s heard Dream’s voice a lot, or he has a very good memory of Dream’s voice, which, considering his memory problems probably isn’t the case. This is further supported by how ever since Dream’s been in prison, ever since Ranboo banned himself from the prison, he hasn’t heard even a hint of Dream’s voice, not even as he’s remembering more and more.

Third: The Disc War Finale. During the disc war finale, we have in universe proof and out of character confirmation from both cc!Dream and cc!Ranboo that the characters had been staring at each other during the entire thing. Some friends on a discord server have also pointed out how Ranboo appeared to be avoiding Tommy’s gaze unless Tommy’s distracted. And during the entire thing Ranboo’s the only one not holding out a weapon, instead he’s got a book and quill in his hand. We’ve now also got confirmation that Ranboo was Enderwalking during the Disc War Finale, which makes all the strange behaviors make sense because if they’re friends, if they’re allies, then Ranboo didn’t show up to fight Dream. Then Dream might’ve been trying to convey something to Ranboo, like perhaps trying to keep Ranboo from doing something stupid and revealing their alliance. Especially if he planned on being put in Pandora, he really doesn’t need his friend to try and “save” him and ruin the whole plan.

Fourth: The Voice. I am inclined to believe the things the voice says. Why? Because everything the voice is talking about are all the things Ranboo doesn’t want to confront, doesn’t want to see, doesn’t want to remember. The voice isn’t malicious. It’s not even Dream, it’s just using Dream’s voice to make Ranboo listen. And Ranboo knows it’s just himself. (also out of character confirmation from the cc!s that the voice is NOT Dream and never has been, it’s just a manifestation of all the shit Ranboo’s repressed coming up and slapping him in the face) Everything the voice does, all the things it says, is trying to get Ranboo to remember the “bad” things he’s done, to remember that he was on Dream’s side. To force him to face that side of himself that might be capable of doing bad things, if there’s a good enough reason. It exaggerates things, it makes them out to be worse than they actually are, but that’s how it’s able to get Ranboo’s attention, that’s how it’s able to force him to think about those things. Ranboo won’t do anything until he’s forced to face the problem, the Voice is just trying to get Ranboo to do that.

This is why I believe Ranboo DID blow up the community house. Why he’s working with or has worked for Dream in the past. Why he willingly gave Dream his memory book, possibly to create a visible conflict between them and ensure no one would connect them as allies, like what Dream wanted to do with Punz. And also because the other things it’s said, such as Ranboo being given the Cat disc to hold onto, have been proven to be true. Nothing the Voice has said has been confirmed a lie. And many of the things it’s talked about aren’t things we or Ranboo can find the answer to unless he talks to Dream, which is until the dude’s rescued from the prison, isn’t happening. (cc!Dream where’s your Dream lore?!?!?!)

That said, if Ranboo was the one to blow up the community house, then Dream was covering for him during the Disc War Finale. He didn’t have to. He could’ve thrown Ranboo under the bus. But he chose to take on that blame, make himself look even worse in the eyes of everyone gathered there while he was at their mercy, to protect Ranboo from similar persecution. Doesn’t this remind you of anything? And Ranboo’s got a track record of making friends with those who help him.

Fifth: The Visits. Ranboo has visited Dream in prison multiple times. At the very least at least 2 times that we have direct confirmation of, and probably even more. His visits are consistent enough that just a few days after Ranboo bans himself from the prison, Dream notices and starts a strike, tells Sapnap that Ranboo’s stopped visiting, asks him, his best friend who literally threatened to perma-kill him if he were to ever leave his horrible situation, to send a message to Ranboo. (which, I guess Dream still kinda trusts Sapnap despite everything that’s happened, huh?) 

Why would Ranboo visit? Unless they’re friends, unless they’re allies? Because even Dream’s so called best friend only ever visited once. Even Bad who Dream claims to have been the nicest only ever visited once. And while Tommy and Quackity visited more than once, their multiple visits have very clear reasons behind them, while Ranboo’s just, don’t. 

And consider: How did Ranboo know about the things that were said during the Disc War Finale, word for word, line for line, that he wasn’t present for, unless someone’s told him? Unless he heard about it from Dream himself. Unless that was what they were talking about. Unless that’s part of the reason Ranboo kept visiting Dream. 

Sixth: The Lessons. I don’t know about you, but giving life lessons to someone sounds like something you’d do with a friend, and not just a “puppet”. The whole lessons book gives off really mentor mentee vibes, and considering how Ranboo’s following in Dream’s goal of stopping conflict and uniting the server, well. And the lessons aren’t even malicious, or designed to push Ranboo away from others. In fact, many of them, especially the last few ones we see, are designed to protect Ranboo! Unless Ranboo’s safety was a top priority for Dream, there’s not much reason to pass those lessons down. This lines up incredibly well with Dream taking the blame of the community house’s destruction during the Disc War Finale, as well as his protective streak at his own expense when it comes to his allies and the people he cares about. Which means Ranboo is someone he cares about, which means they’re friends! They’re besties your honor!

Seventh: Ranboo’s Vehement Denial. Ranboo is infamous for being an unreliable narrator, for being in incredible denial despite all evidence supporting otherwise. Which means his vehement denial that Dream can be anything but bad is a fairly obvious red flag that that’s not true, and that Ranboo has reason to believe it’s not true, but chooses to actively ignore or forget those reasons and attempts to reinforce the “everything’s Dream’s fault, he can never change and will always be bad” mentality, that sounds like something he stole from Tommy or c!Dream antis, because he doesn’t want to face the fact that he has reasons for believing the opposite. At this point, I am 100% on board with the idea that all these unprompted instances of Dream hate is just a blatant cover up of how that’s not true at all. (Which he touches on, ever so briefly, when he renovates the second stronghold room)

Aaaaand that’s it! For the most part. I could touch on how Enderboo is hoarding all the backbone in this relationship and that the dynamic between Enderboo and Ranboo is closer to that of someone waking up after a sugar high or going for three days straight without sleep than it is two completely separate people or someone who’s literally sleepwalking (and that “Enderboo” is his normal state and “Ranboo” is the sleep deprived not thinking straight state). But this post is already obscenely long and I should end it here. 

TL;DR: They’re besties, your honor.

i made a post the other day [touching briefly on how neurotypical activism for autistic people's "unacceptable" behaviors feels fake when we take on a special interest they don't like], but i'd like to expand on what i meant by how much more it especially hurts when other neurodivergent (especially autistic, but allistic ADHDers too) act the same way in favor of looking "morally correct." like, obviously it would be unfair to tell someone they can't dislike the dsmp (idc if they support it or not), but to frown upon it as someone else's special interest and forbid them from... y'know... avoiding harassment on the internet over enjoying it just hurts, because you of all people should understand that special interests & hyperfixations are things we can't just *stop* or *disassociate from* or *let go of* or *turn our backs on*, especially overnight, yeah?? because we get told to do that all the time like it's an easy switch "for the sake of the minorities we're 'hurting'" and it's just so infuriating; i wish they understood us even if they are us (or claim they are). i mean, if you see an autistic person enjoying something that they're obviously innocently passionate about and just want to focus and ramble on, i don't see how telling them what awful and inconsiderate (and sometimes "privileged" ???) human beings they are solves a problem rather than causes one. these types of people act like individual consumption of entertainment content indirectly (or not even) related to "cancel-worthy" actions and/or sayings by irrelevant influencers contributes to all the bad things in the world when it just... doesn't. and i'm tired of the shaming and guilt-tripping that comes with interacting with ignorant people who are only unsupportive of such media to control what others do and how it makes them feel, Regardless of what minority groups i'm a part of and what "rights" i have as a (supposedly) offended person to access it without criticism unless i'm also deeply critical and offensive towards it. it makes total sense why said affected minorities' voices would take first priority, but logically, gatekeeping opinions from "privileged" or "unaffected" (in quotes because it's situational) people doesn't actually do anything effective.

my point is, with the continuously rising number of people who contribute to this one-way style of critical thinking stigmas around certain types of media, i feel unsafe sharing my special interests under positivity posts dedicated to exactly that unless i know for sure that the blog in question is accepting of all special interests like they should be. i'm autistic, so i see another fellow autistic say that they support and love hearing all special interests, and i assume they mean that literally. is that not logical? and then there are such blogs who DO explicitly state that they hate dsmp fans or whatever, and it's like... why? why be contradictory to the very purpose of the blog you're running if you're supposed to be welcoming and open to that? i understand maybe having that DNI on a more personal blog but for that it just doesn't make sense. i think making the choice to run or lead a positive community space should be for the other people and not for you, obvious sensible other personal boundaries aside.

i think *this* is what i was really trying to say in my horribly-written [extension post] to that afterwords (which you're free to read for more context and detail, but this post here explains it way better imo js). *this* is the type of thing that makes me feel internally with doubt like i'm just vicitimizing myself for undeserved sympathy because i was taught for so long on twitter that advocating for yourself in the face of general dissent against you means you're the bad guy who deserves to see hell. if anything, i can admit to my personal rejection-sensitive dysphoria/disorder (RSD) playing into why i made this post, but even then it's really nothing reasonable to challenge me over. if you've been following me for a while and wonder why my posts about dsmp antis are so confident, careless, and petty, this post is exactly why. i've been avoiding calling it all "ableist" because i know damn well that term gets thrown around far too often and carelessly, but in my opinion, refusing to let autistics show their true nature of being autistic even when you don't personally support it is just that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ THAT ALONE, i'm willing to debate about here, and i'd probably just straight-up agree with you after maybe deleting this part if you make a considerably strong argument (must be respectfully), but i thought i'd mention that i know that specific little take might not be popular and i'm not closed off to it, as stubborn as i always am.

and if you read this post with the prior-existing thought going in that i'm just whining about people who criticize things like the dsmp (whether you think they're right to do so or not), you are reading it completely wrong while entirely missing the point. and if you *say* something to me about it in that manner where i'll see it in my notifications, i will virtually fucking slap you and you'll deserve it. don't care. if y'all weren't so willfully ignorant and frustrating to reason with, i wouldn't be so tired and unsympathetic overtime as a result.

again, i used the dsmp as a prime example here, but it is really supposed to just be a general post that applies to anything you can think of tbh. :P

no i haven’t done their sprites yet bc it would take so much time and i’m not even sure if people wanna see more of this au skjdkdsakdfkl,, but i have Design Ideas.

events of the dsmp revolution are just a FLARP session drawing parallels to how the homestuck trolls had a FLARP session that spoiler alert: destroyed friendships. dtrio, eret, will are involved. eret betrays will's faction and wilbur's still Bitter over that.

on the context of alternia (highbloods and lowbloods) lmanburg and dreamsmp have their roles SWAPPED.  the emancipation theme thing is completely gone since highbloods are in more power than the lowbloods (the dream team) . 

wilbur made a faction called l’manburg because he wants a place where he and his fellow highbloods could make drugs vibe.they take a piece of land that was owned by the dream team. in normal circumstances, they shouldve stood down because lowbloods aren't supposed to start shit with highbloods (especially a group of highbloods that has the alternian heir among them)  but dream turned it into an activism thing about lowblood rights. the story plays as close as possible without tommy or tubbo in it (which is pretty hard ik but this is the best can do).

like in the dreamsmp revolution, dream kinda let wilbur do what he wants but this time he has more reason to because he’s in a lower caste. dream really only fought back when wilbur announced that he’d be building lmanburg on their land and calling it theirs.

eret betrays wilbur by supporting the lowbloods and wilbur and co. technically won but only because he finally called the drones in, as a reference to how lmanburg absolutely got crushed by the dream team in the smp but technically won. l’manburg keeps the piece of land and the dream team scatter away to find a new home.

wilbur soot's a fuschia because a) he's in a position that has a lot of power, b) yknow how he wrote a song about squids and his thing with sally… yeah.

eret's a violet because nobility!! dream looks down on him because he's ambivalent on fighting for lowblood rights when he's in a power to do so "you just sit there, and you look pretty that's it"

also like eridan he has a minor aesthetic mutation (herobrine eyes) that won't classify him as a mutant.

jschlatt is purple because it makes sense thematically because of the gamzee parallels (a. substance abuse b. if you know what happens in act 6, you know this already but spoiler alert, he ruins the main protagonists' lives) also he's a funnyman he deserves the clown caste

 quackity's a teal because he’s a law student. moving on--

 ok but for real it also makes sense thematically because he's the one who wrote the thing that tricked schlatt into agreeing also he gets manipulated by schlatt which also draws parallels to certain events in the comic

skeppy and bbh are BEST FRIENDS despite being highblood and lowblood respectively. initially, skeppy just wanted to bother bbh but they grew to be good friends in time. y’know like how they actually becane friends :D

philza minecraft is a jade because dad friend. also works thematically, because spoiler alert he gets to murder a seadweller for going batshit crazy. 

he also god tiers early. he dies fighting his quick undead denizen (haha baby zombie) but the consorts of his land carry him to his quest bed because he’s treated them all so well.

dream was initially going to be another caste but then i realized that means i have to make his hoodie something other than green which is unacceptable so its a good thing the fact that he's a lime works out

dream was the one who thought of playing sgrub in the first place- initially only planned to have gogy, sap, and bbh in the session but then realized that they four won't be enough so he invited more into his session

he’s also the first to go godtier ez clap blind speedrun not sure what classpect tho

the only reason why dream avoided being culled at birth for being a limeblood is because his rng is That Good. he quickly picked up the fact that he’s not supposed to exist and masqueraded as an oliveblood and kept mostly to himself to avoid suspicion.

george is still colorblind but he has lazer eyes along with it instead. dream lives with him in the same hive since being a mutant means dream doesn’t get a lusus of his own (dnf fans getcha juice “and they were roommates”) 

despite living in the same hive, he never really figures out that dream is a limeblood. possibly because a) he’s colorblind and when he sees dream bleeding he just sees yellow b) he’s just that fucking oblivious and it’s so valid of him.

sapnap’s a bronzeblood mainly because i know he’s the instigator of the pet war with tommy also because i associate him with the color orang in my mind so bronze it is

the only thing i’m confident about in here are the kids’ lunar sways. i’m not an expert in classpects and homestuck lore so there’s that too!! i just wanted to make this post because adhd means that the idea wouldn’t shut up until i finished it. This initially started as a single shitpost edit of tommyinnit talksprite but then the hiveswap 2 trailer came out and that means i have to combine my two hyperfixations.

also i have ideas about potential quadrants but idk how much of that is breaking some streamers’ boundaries about shipping (even the non romantic quads such as kismesistude, morallegiance and auspisticism) so i decided not to include it.

Of course, since this episode is set in the time of the American frontier, it is quite obvious that there would be a disproportionately large number of gay cowboys when compared with other TFTSMP episodes. Having just watched the episode, I have decided to make this compilation post in honour of Pride Month 2021.

Jack Kanoff + Karl

When Jack claims that he's not leaving the saloon without the money he came there for, Karl retorts, "I think you are". Jack immediately replies, "Okay", and walks right out of the saloon obediently like a Henpecked Husband, or rather, a boy trying to impress his crush.

Jack and Mason claim that they are "together" and not even "social distancing" can keep them apart [1]. They also ostracize Connor among their bandit group (making him run while they ride horses [2 & 3] and calling him a Democrat [4], as though he is an inferior member of the group when compared with each other), and before the duel, Mason claims that he likes looking at Jack [5], and Jack yells at Mason that he "already give[s] [him] enough love" [6]. After Jack dies, Mason kills John John in their duel against each other, saying that it was for Jack [7].

Despite thinking Crops is "irredeemably bad", Karl wishes him good luck in the duel against Jack, and then there's this conversation right afterward:

Jack shows Villain Respect for Crops for his cannibalism and says that he likes him [1]. On top of this, before their duel, Jack checks Crops out and outright claims he has a "nice ass" [2], and later adds that if he ends up killing him in the duel, it was nothing personal [3]... and later apparently grabs Crops "by the hips" [4], and gives him a kiss just before the duel [5].

It helps that even though Jack supposedly had a wife, he dislikes her for being a Democrat (even though, as the Sheriff lampshades, she can't even vote, which means she must either privately support Democrat policies of the time, or he is lying), and the aforementioned wife never does show up in the episode and doesn't live in the town.

Before their duel against each other in "The Wild West", Mason tells Karl that he'd had "a funny feeling ever since [he] walked into that damn saloon". Though he claims that it's a "me versus you" feeling [1], one would wonder if he was thinking of saying something else. He also has this to say just before the duel [2]:

no pressure to answer this any time soon (bc god knows we've had enough bad vibes today) but how you you deal with claims such as some of the ones in the anons shown here? i find it hard to just brush away serious things like claims of anti-blackness even when i know the information those claims are based on is faulty. how do you go about not feeling like a horrible person when you see stuff like that?

Well, to be honest, I don't really have to. I very rarely see stuff like that on my dash, since the only blog I follow that isn't at least an ex-mcyt fan is a random SPN-enjoyer whose vibes I liked. I've also only gotten 3 hate anons ever - all of which were mediocre at best (two that were accusing me of defending Dream in a situation where I was criticizing him so they held no weight, and that bs one about wishing apologists a good day lol) so those claims never really get on my radar.

(It actually makes me feel a little guilty at times; so many kind and wonderful people in this community have had to deal with an overwhelming amount of hate in their inbox or directed toward them, whereas I get off scot-free. This sounds weird, but it doesn't feel fair. I hope the people involved with that blog are doing okay - I'm very sorry that they had to deal with that, especially as mostly-outsiders.)

As for the claims themselves though, I kind of just have a lot of confidence in my own knowledge and judgement. There was a period of my life where I got sucked into a BaB/exclusionist community, and because of that I think I know better than most people how perceived harm can bring a group of people together in their hatred and spread like wildfire. I commend people for standing up for what they believe in - apathy is the enemy - but I also am not swayed by misinformation when I know for a fact that it is such. There is a possibility that some DSMP members are racist - in the same way there is a possibility that any creator is a horrible person. As consumers, our job is to remain critical and vigilant (which is why I'll never agree with the notion that crit-posting is pointless, though I do understand that it can be nitpicky at times), but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy content based on our good judgement.

This might sound a bit egotistical, but I know that I'm a good person. I do as much activist work in my offline life as I can and I'm hoping to do a lot more as we re-acclimate to things (in terms of COVID). I work to stay politically informed and stand up against acts of bigotry (or microaggression) that are oftentimes very easy to just let slide for the sake of everyone getting along. And as someone who has had many hopeless days, I do my best to keep others from feeling that way through whatever means I can. Some random anonymous person online is not going to be able to detract from everything I've worked on and for with their poorly-researched claims about some internet dude I'm currently into. I understand that this is easier said than done, and you shouldn't feel bad if those claims do get to you (that means you care, and that's important), but I want to remind you that we are often smarter than we give yourselves credit for. You have good judgement. You are (presumably) aware of the situation. You're not brushing it away, you're refuting it with evidence (by learning what actually happened and the details of each situation, etc etc).

It's a difficult part of being in this community, for sure, but all we can really do is combat the bullshit and keep going. It sucks to know that so many people have so many misconceptions about us and the people whose content we're supporting, but their failure to look into the full scope of the situation doesn't make you a bad person and their perspective on the subject isn't the end-all be-all. Trust yourself.

/dsmp SBI origins

Hello. I just came up with a little bit of head-canon about SBI origins. It’s a long one so please sit back and enjoy these ideas/theories.

Some points to consider before reading 

Now personally, I like the idea of Phil having 3 biological sons, Tommy Techno and Wilbur. Tubbo isn’t in their family as I like the concept of Puffy being his guardian. 

Wilbur and Technoblade are both twins who are AT LEAST 10 years older than Tommy in the story, (take what you want from it I would  love to hear their age gaps from you guys)

For the biological mother: I will refuse to believe its a fridge but instead, their mother was rather unstable and decided it was best for her to stay with her sister and away from the kids although she regularly visited them. One day Phil opened the door to find his sister-in-law inform him that his wife had passed. In addition, a small 3 month old child was given to him, claiming it was his (but no one knew weather that was true or not). That child was Tommy.

More of a personal one, english isn’t my first language, and I’m not that confident in writing but I just wanted to let my ideas out. I hope you all get the general idea of my HC from this post!

Philza

popular builder (architect), he was well known and respected in Town and a member of the local council. He was humble and always helped others going through hard times (Schlatt). He was a peaceful leader although he found his job rather not desirable. He would often spend hours working, leaving his 3 sons alone. At home, he had to struggle with the two different ideologies of his twin sons. When will left at the age of 22, Phil had just settled into retirement. Two years later, Tommy also left for the city, following Will’s footsteps. With less money, and his old age, he struggled to find work up until Techno started a potato farm and they lived quietly for a couple of years. He exchanged letters with will. After 8-7 so years, he got an urgent message from Will to come to his nation L’manburg, but when he came, it was too late and you all know the rest.

(Side note: Phil had developed a liking for Technoblade, as he was the only son that stayed behind to help him. That doesn’t mean that he didn’t love Tommy and Wilbur, just that he loved Techno the most)

Wilbur

Will had lived a quiet childhood, as he emerged into adulthood, he realised that he was rather weak physically and thus, used his words. He became a popular speaker with radical ideas of starting a new nation for the migrants (aka his own people) living in the great city of DSMP. He often argued with his twin Technoblade, with his beliefs of a strong nation, and his brother’s beliefs of anarchy. Once, the arguments went on for a week straight leading to Wilbur leaving his town for good. With no goodbyes, he just left a letter to Phil explaining that he has gone to make his dreams a reality and form a strong and powerful nation. 

When Wilbur entered the city, he realised he had no money, no job nor no connections. He settled in the slums, from where he talked to other migrants. He became a popular speaker amongst the migrants and the poor, who at the time had very little rights and often treated with injustice. To start up his nation, he needed money, so he started the drug business with his followers, which eventually followed to the nation of L’manburg. 

(Side note: Sally. Wilbur meet Sally in the city as a fisherman (woman? idk). They did have a son in this HC but I will refuse to make Fundy a child for many reasons that I may provide later on if this gets enough attention lmao)

Technoblade

The oldest, Technoblade had ALWAYs been a quiet person. He was not a skilled leader like his father nor emerged from his introverted persona to become a powerful speaker like his twin brother. When he was 16, he enrolled in the military. Ranking his way up, at age 20 he was a well respected solider. He was immensely skilled in combat, with many claiming he will never dies. 

Deep inside, Techno was an anarchist with ideas of free men. As said before, he argued with his brother quite a lot. At age 22, he had to leave his position in order to go help his weak father and younger brother. He started a potato farm near his house to help finance his family. His ideas of anarchy grew stronger and stronger and he wanted to prove his twin wrong by showing him the power and strength in power for all. Around 6-7 years after Wilbur left, Techo decided to act on his plan to destroy the nation of L’manburg only to find out that his own two brothers had been exiled from the nation they created. Even though he still wanted to continue with his plan, he felt pity for Tommy and decided to side with Pogtopia up until the end.

(Side note: I had some ideas about young Techno trying to support his family by participating in gang fights to get money. That’s why he got put into the army at such young age and was such a skilled fighter)

Tommy

Being the youngest, he had a lot of influence from his two older brother while growing up. Looking at the actions of his elders, young tommy inhibited the annoying skill of being loud and obnoxious, believing it’s the only way to get a point across. When he was 11-12 years old, he started receiving training from Technoblade, one of the greatest soldiers during the time. Tommy picked up the skills very quick and became skilled in combat (more than Wilbur but way less than Techno)

When Tommy was 14, he decided to run away from home to his brother. He received letters from Wilbur stating the city was lively, majestic and new and that he should come. The naive young boy decided to leave his town and come to the city. When he came, he found the city life to not be so glorious as it was said in the letters. Nevertheless Tommy kept his spirits up. He lived with his brother in the Slums and worked as a construction worker, helping build the sewers before joining the Drug Empire and soon, the nation L’manburg. During the two years, he made friends with a quiet but chaotic baker and beekeeper, Tubbo. 

(Side note: when L’manburg was formed, Wilbur was 26 and Tommy was 16)

We have a couple of fictives/factives from the Dream SMP and it’s content creators, and it’s honestly draining how everything you see about DSMP alters is discourse, either fake-claiming or overly supportive activism, on any social media—especially tumblr, as unfortunately there is a lot of discourse about a lot of things on here. There are people trying to, just, normalise having DSMP alters since the DSMP has been a comfort media for so many people with everything going on in the world right now, and I’m gonna add some of our own everyday interactions to the normalisation soup.

I don’t even know why I’m making this post, but I think it’s mostly a warning to not try and fake-claim us, and also something for me to reblog once I’m ready to add my two cents to the fictive discourse. But, for now, I just want to share our experiences and help make a middle ground for everything that’s going on, so stick around for that!

Our blog is first and foremost for us to share our experiences and connect with other systems in a lighthearted, safe and comforting way, and I want to talk about how ridiculous Wilbur can be and how bee-obsessed Bee is and how they all interact with each other and everyone else, coming from different sources and having different experiences, and so I will. i adore dream but in his stream when he was asked about pronouns he kept saying “whatever makes you comfortable” like leaving it up to us to call him what we want and i feel a little sad because gender and sexuality are so personal and it should be what makes HIM comfortable. i’m sure he didn’t mean it in that way but he literally has he/him in his twitter bio, why do people obsess over him using any other pronouns? he’s not a fictional character to project identities onto, he’s a real person. idk. do you have any thoughts on this?

My thoughts are that I agree with what you said, but I'm going to do a long post because if you haven't noticed by now I like a good ramble. I'll preface this by saying that I am a cis woman and while I haven't ever questioned my gender in any way beyond a passing "Still a woman? yeah, probably", I have thought about pronouns (because pronouns do not equal gender and I have friends who use all kinds of pronouns so it warranted some thought). I use she/her and I would probably say "I don't mind whatever pronouns you use" in the sense that if someone used they/them for me if they didn't know my pronouns, or even he/him if that's the vibe I gave out online, it wouldn't make me feel dysphoric or uncomfortable in the same way it might for someone for whose gender is not that which they were assigned at birth. That being said, like anyone, regardless of gender, it would make me uncomfortable if someone continued to use the incorrect pronouns for me once they knew my pronouns. in the same way that if someone just decided my name wasn't Jane and was infact Barbra or Steve. Because, that would be a disrespectful thing to do to someone as the least and in the case of the pronouns, misgendering. Misgendering is misgendering, regardless of whether someone is trans or not. We need to normalise that for everyone and hold people to that standard, it's the only way to achieve equality. Pronouns are yours, so the idea that someone can use different ones than you have stated are yours just because it makes them feel more comfortable is... not the one. When I was listening to Dream answering the question, to me, it sounded as though he wanted to say that he uses he/him, that they/them is okay in the same way I said above, but that he would be uncomfortable if someone used she/her. But then he stopped himself. It sounded (again, to me, and maybe I'm the one projecting) like the way someone cuts themselves off when they're saying something they aren't sure is right, like it might unintentionally cause offense. It sounded like he didn't know, in that moment, if he were being offensive or incorrect (read: transphobic) by stating that preference. (spoiler alert: he wasn't) and so he tempered what he was saying, said that other people could use whatever if it made them comfortable because he would never, ever want to upset someone, especially with something he isn't entirely sure he understands. It endeared me to him that he was being so considerate, and maybe he doesn't have any strong discomfort with any pronouns because us cis people have the privilege of not having dysphoria attached to that stuff, but it does leave him open to being taken advantage of by those people who, like you say, are projecting their own stuff onto him. But also by transphobes co-opting the message that they are allowed to use whatever pronouns makes them comfortable, regardless of what someone has said. I know it's cool to see yourself represented, especially in someone you admire, but I think it does more damage to assign labels to people who do not identify with them, than it does to actually seek out creators who do identify that way to support. They exist, they exist in the dsmp, even! This kind of thing sends a message to those horrible people looking for an excuse for their prejudice. It makes it seem like when trans people share their pronouns, that actual transphobes can claim discomfort, that they'd rather see a person as not-trans and so will use whatever pronouns they like. Which is - all together now - transphobic as fuck! So why people think it's okay to do to Dream just because he's cis, I don't know. Man has his pronouns in his bio. Respect them. Stop asking. That's how it works.

Ghostbur Through the Lens of War

When analyzing a text (text being used as a general term), it’s important to establish what lens your analysis is going to be run under. It helps specify thoughts and arguments under set pretenses and brings focus to the discussion. Instead of looking at an article or a story through broad strokes, using a specific lens focuses on one stroke and allows for deeper analysis to be achieved. 

It is safe to say that most of the Dream SMP is either seen under then lens of politics or mentality/interpersonal relationships. Viewing the story as a grand political battle and the consequences of the mighty leads us right down to the more specific lens of war. Yet, despite this common viewpoint under which we, as a community, digest the story of the Dream SMP, the character of Ghostbur is often left out of the equation in those terms, favoring to shed light on him for what he represents mentally. While his character is very much geared towards that line of thinking as an individual, his representation of innocents in the portrayal of war in the DSMP is nothing to scoff at.

The scale of the DSMP is far too small to truly represent the role of the common man within the cogs of war. With (at the time of writing) 31 characters within the story and a vast majority too disconnected from the story line to feel any real impact from the major players, we only ever really got to feel the way war impacted the warring factions and the leaders. The way war impacted countries as government system. The way war impacted the individual. We saw how war warped Wilbur and how war pitted father against son. We saw how war tore apart L’manburg because the leaders in charge never learned when to quit. We saw how abstaining from war left the Badlands relatively unharmed until a new external force came into play.

In all these instances, we see either the characters as individuals in positions of power, or the overarching bodies and governments that share the land, but we never see the people. The innocents trying to live life as best as they can under dire circumstances. Until, we look at Ghostbur under the lens of war as well. 

Ghostbur is a prime vessel to carry the weight of the general population and how war impacts the people caught in the crossfire. He is the essence of the common people living their life only to have it viscerally uprooted and destroyed by war and by ignorant leaders gunning for their own gains. This can be seen in nearly every aspect of Ghostbur’s character.

Starting off with what inspired this essay and these thoughts in general is Ghostbur’s conversation with Philza on the 6th of January. Within this conversation is where the most blatant characterization and solidification of Ghostbur as a representative of the people comes into play. The line, “I read the history books,” and Ghostbur recounting his warped idea of how Wilbur’s death came to be reflects on how history is written by the victors, and that is the version taught to the population. We are told of the great triumphs of the heroes of history, even if those heroes will never see themselves as such. The people are told of all the good that came out of a horrid historical event without the whole picture because details will always be lost within the wash of time. And during conflict between parties and during horrid events, Ghostbur continued to just live his life. He became the foundations of the country that those in charge put on the line. “...I just wrote books... I built a house for people... I built this town, just like I built Logstedshire...” Ghostbur built L’manburg and Logstedshire as places for him, as a representation of a community, to live. 

Even beyond this conversation, the way Ghostbur acts and how everyone interacts with him continues to support the idea that Ghostbur represents the innocents in war. Again, Ghostbur learns everything from word of mouth and history books. They are all skewed to paint a simplified version of events that leaves everything black and white, like how so much of history is formulated and taught. Ghostbur is always happy and cheerful and naive, chasing ideals and chasing that happiness. People just want to be happy. They just want to live their lives freely and enjoy it. Ghostbur covers the more mundane tasks of L’manburg, such as building aesthetic things or extra houses or the town center. When interacting with Ghostbur, everyone treats him like a glass vase. They fight to keep him complacent and content and happy. The way Phil talks to Ghostbur during their conversation, how Phil lies to him about Friend’s canon lives and Dream brings another Friend to keep Ghostbur complicit and feeling positive towards Dream, how everyone practically tip toes around him whenever something serious comes up.  They all talk to him softly, like a child. At least the way I see it as an American Citizen, the government is all to happy to leave the people thinking there is nothing wrong, and to actively keep them from getting too close to whatever the truth may be. All parties try to keep the innocents innocent and complacent.

And yet, “I sowed the seeds of peace, yet I am the one who pays for war.” The people always pay. The innocents always pay with their lives and their homes for those in charge to play their games. “You knew everything everyone owned was in this town.”  The greater powers at play, whether they be governments or leaders or what have you, know that in this land is where people live. They know, but they enact war anyway. The decimate their lands anyway. They blow up their homes anyway. They kill their loved ones anyway. 

Phil’s final, “...maybe you’ll understand someday,” is saying, “one day, you will look back on this day in history and see all the good it caused. One day, the innocents will move on. One day, the people will forget why they lost what they lost.”

And Ghostbur does.

A bit disorganized. I wrote this off the cuff so it’s more like a train of thought loosely formatted as an essay. I hope you all liked my small rant. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and just wanted to write it, you know?

Edit below the cut:

A small amendment to this post in retrospect in terms of one of my arguments and how I presented it along with some added hindsight and sleep, since I had written this at 2 in the morning.

This was spurred on by the tags of @asmoljay​ in their reblog of this post.

In their tags, they bring up the point that my argument on how people treat Ghostbur is placating and dismissive, mentioning that people are actually very confrontational with Ghostbur about Alivebur’s actions and its effect on them.

I will concede, my original claims are unfounded and far too broad. What I should’ve said, and what I have come to the realization of, is that Phil is placating and dismissive and trying to keep Ghostbur, for the most part, complacent. He never actively confronts Ghostbur about Alivebur’s actions and hardly has anything to say when Ghostbur brings up his death by Phil’s hands.

Overall, Philza is the only one engaging with Ghostbur thematically. He’s the only one playing into what Ghostbur represents, acting as a representation of the instigators of war to contrast with Ghostbur’s representation of the innocents.

I also feel I was a tad bit unclear as to why I was specifying that I was looking at Ghostbur through the lens of war. In doing so, I was taking a stance on Ghostbur’s thematic relevance and role in such an analysis and subsequently ignoring aspects of Ghostbur’s character that builds him up as that, a character. Looking through this lens, I am only looking at a small facet of how Ghostbur acts and interacts with the story at play. I am by no means disregarding how he works as a character or as a representation of guilt, unhealthy coping, drug use, etc. Ghostbur is multifaceted and I wanted to bring light to one facet that I found really interesting and didn’t really see anyone acknowledge. In the end, I am blatantly ignoring how different events feed into different aspects of Ghostbur as a character and bringing to light how other events pertain to him as a representation of a general populous and how that plays into the theme of war that is (or at the very least was) going on between Phil and Ghostbur.

Ghostbur isn’t defined by this characterization that I have illustrated, but it is certainly an interesting way to look at him under new context.
