No matter how well people think they know Jimmy, they always get one key factor wrong. No matter how well you capture his fear and attachments, his strive for attention and self-loathing; you always miss one thing.

He is hungry.

Jimmy does his best to kill, and hunt, and prove that he is a threat. He tries so hard, can't you see it? The way he chases after people and snaps when he's considered weak? The way he always protests when people make fun of him? Throughout the series he's slowly trying harder and harder to hurt people. To prove something. But to who is he proving that to. Joel? Grian? Scott, even? No.

He's craving internal validation. He needs to prove to himself that he is hungry. That he deserves this opportunity, that he's worth everyone's time, and effort. He always fails. That is why people make fun of him. That is why everyone takes him for a burden. It's never really the curse, is it? There's a handful of people who are always out early, but people value them even still. Because they're powerful, strong assets. That is what people are missing. Jimmy is not innocent, nor weak, nor a pacifist. It's just that everyone around him is hungrier.

laios has very quickly become dear to me not just because he's an autistic protagonist but because his autism is itself one of the reasons his party has an edge over others. though we see him struggle in social situations, his special interest makes him hypercompetent in the context of dungeon survival. i'm aware that's not a NEW observation on him but i was impressed that he even used his special interest to successfully solve a crisis that relied on noticing social cues- he was able to pick out the impostors bc he honed in on the small discrepancies in their attitudes toward monsters. if that isn't weaponizing your autism, i don't know what is
