They literally lied abt who they cast, took the time to get pats on the back for it, pulled the rug out from people's feet by literally going back into the past and hiring not only a white guy, but one who has already had a bite of the apple and then Said bluntly that this is what the future looks like.

Sometimes, it's best to just believe people when they tell you what they're about, and this is one of those situations. They can't ever walk this back.

under the cut is some extra information about him that i was worried the sheet didnt fully convey or otherwise didnt make it in !!

first and foremost, i dont think i made it clear enough that his younger brother is nere (though the full name i crafted for him is neeralin'llar and nere is just his nickname like how vals fullname is valddrin'draa) and that he was just a baby when house iltral fell. whilst otherwise pretty cold, his love for his bother was pure and it absolutely wrecked him when he died.

he was a devout follower of lolth and served as a tracker and assassin of deserters and threats to lolths reign. for prayer purposes, he always carried a lolths candle but he shattered the only one he had on him in a rage when nere died - signifying his revolt against his god that forsook his brother. he now carries the iltral signet ring that he had given to nere in its place.

less important to lore reasons, i also just wanted to mention the swords that he carries are the one that the drider drops and the one from the shrine of eilistraee.

speaking of eilistraee, val seeks her patronage and protection post-game as lolth had already began punishing his abandonment - his scars on his lips being the beginning of his transformation into a drider, though the process has been slowed by the various other **** he has going on.

on to the companions, he is really only close with astarion and shadowheart though he has mostly positive relationships with the others as well.

he fell for astarion during their time in the underdark and specifically when astarion, despite his previous complaining, parleys with nere in vals stead after val took a mortal blow during the prior fight. astarion was slower to fall but vals attitude change and loyalty from this moment onwards eventually ensnared him as well, their only serious disagreement from that point on was the fate of the cult - astarion wanting to rule it but val wanting to destroy it (as it had led to the death of his brother).

his relationship with shadowheart is much more familial, their struggles with their religion mirroring the others. their bond solidified for val when shadowheart helped perform the funerary rites for his brother during the gauntlet of shar. he occasionally slips into his doting-older-brother mode with her and overall does his best to guide and protect her like he failed to do with nere. shadowheart grows quite dependent on him and they share most of their free time together.

The more I learn about judaism the more I wonder where tf christianity got all its bad shit. Why is divorce a sin in christianity when judaism has recognized the right to divorce for nearly a millennia and has codified religious laws for it. Why does christianity consider sex to be dirty (to the point where puritans considered it a sin to enjoy having sex with your own spouse) when in judaism it's considered holy and it's a literal mitzvah to have sex with your spouse on the sabbath. Why does christianity consider it a sign that you're faithless if you question your religion when in judaism that's considered an essential part to developing your faith. I'm probably stating the obvious here but I still can't get over the fact that there's no historical basis to any of this shit before christianity started, it's like christians just said "hey guys what if we took the torah and built a new religion around it but this time it was actively hostile to human life"

#rambling #disclaimer this isnt about individual christians im speaking about the religious trauma i experienced in my own life etc etc #these are just a few examples that I've noticed but they're definitely something #the part about sex in particular shocked me bc sex is pretty much viewed as actively evil in a lot of christian denominations #like you should only do it to create children and if you take pleasure in it (even if its with your own spouse) youre a dirty sinner #there arent as many examples like this nowadays but if you read puritan laws about sex it's like #you're allowed to have sex with your wife basically 10 times a year but you have to be fully clothed with the lights off #and you cant have sex on a holiday or a sunday and you cant touch each other and you have to try as hard as possible to hate it #literally WHERE did that mindset come from?? like for real #in judaism having sex with your spouse is basically considered a celebration of everything holy #and if you have sex on the sabbath (the holiest day in the jewish calendar—above every holiday) #its considered TWICE as holy #make it make sense #this is one of the things people mean when they say that lumping judaism in with christianity as 'abrahamic' religions is meaningless #theyre literally nothing alike #the only similarity is the torah but thats only half of the christian bible and one third of the jewish one #AND christianity interprets most of it completely differently from how judaism does #im tired #greatest hits #hall of fame

a BIG part of the lore of Dungeon Meshi is how ageism is bad. About how the long lived races treat the young lived races like children and thus infantilize them and do not show them the respect and understanding they deserve simply because of their looks or short life spans. Whether its because to them they look like children in their eyes (like half foots and gnomes) or because the adult ages of the younger lived races are still in the child ages for the longer lived ones and so they get treated/viewed as children (we see otta receive comments about getting with minors when in reality she dated adult half foot women. so we already see this view towards things like this are a thing in the lore) We see this with chilchuck, senshi, and marcille where the two later view chilchuck as a child and treat him like one even though he is a full grown man who drinks (and is supposed to have grey hairs) all because he looks young and in the newest episode its revealed he is 29 which is still young children to the two of them. We see how perspectives that characters are children because of their age being a childs age for a different race as opposed to their race or because they look like children is a completely infantilizing and disrespectful behavior that causes so many problems in the long run. a theme that is completely flying over the average tumblr users head.

But because they look young suddenly they are children? have you paid no attention to the story? did you just ignore how the ageisim and weird mindset about ages like that causes so many issues that could easily have been avoided. and as for the age one i see people getting furious at others for being into and sexualizing izutsumi even though she is a year past adult in tall man years, but because she isnt in the adult age range in real life (wild your applying real life society standards to a fictional medieval fantasy world). even though even in lore she would be well an adult able to get married and everything tumblr really does have the media literacy of a toddler.

it actually pisses me off sm when there is a scene where an aggressor shoots at dazai and chuuya takes the bullet and dies trying to save him and has an elaborate death scene where he's bleeding out in dazai's arms and choking out his last words because we all fucking know man would just step in front of dazai and kick the bullets back to the shooter using gravity manipulation before saying smth snarky like "you can kys when we get back from the job."
