In my constant brain rotations of “why are people in the west so hard on mecha aside from the fandom can be a bit unfriendly” I think one thing I realized as much as I hate to say is how mecha is sometimes treated remind me of the constant hatred superhero stuff gets.

It’s such a weird comparison because with mecha I do not know what the root of it was-and I’d love to know why but I feel there’s either no clear answer or there is one and it’s stupid-where as for superheroes in the west while there’s still a dedicated community the mainstream audiences have become tired of them due to over-saturation, which I understand, but it’s caused such a massive dismal to the entire genre of it much like mecha.

People think superhero stories can’t have any substance because it’s all about fighting and not about the characters- yet forget the SIGNIFICANT impact they had to so much pop culture. How superhero stories were rooted within comic popularity, how superheroes inspired countless of stories, even so far as reaching japan since so much early anime was taken off of western media which birthed its own genre of superheroes. It’s no different to how mecha help started up the anime industry making it one of the most important genres to japans history, yet most people don’t know it and belittle it.

Yet in superhero story cases it’s even WORSE when people are against it yet then go to see one superhero movie because it’s animated and put it on a pedestal and don’t bother to try other superhero content even though they consumed is no different from the norm. It’s the exact same shit when people watch eva and then think all other mechas don’t compare to it, when the genre always had darker, mature and emotional elements, just only a select few decide to canter to a audience who doesn’t even accept what genre it’s from which makes it all the more frustrating to deal with.

I’m someone who’s hardly into superhero stuff even if some of it catches my eye but it sucks to see that the situation is pretty identical to how mecha is seen, that I can’t help to feel sympathetic whenever I see some comic book fans upset at the mainstream audience even if they too can be a little hostile.

My Thoughts on Wish 💫💜🌳🐐🫧

⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️

FUCK I’M SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG

First of all, this review is dedicated to that one Wish stan on Twitter who said I have "no media literacy" when I tried to say that Magnifico wasn’t really threatening, but wasn’t trying to start off a big fight or anything.

I hope that person is having a wonderful day, and I hope this review proves that I do actually have media literacy 🥰🥰

Now, back to the film:

I really wanted to like this movies guys. A film about the origins of the wishing star sounded amazing!

And after I saw the film TWICE in theaters, I was in love. I thought surely my opinion wouldn’t change.

But…the more I thought about the movie, the worst it got.

For example, the songs. I don’t think I need to explain to you guys why "I let you live for free and I don’t even charge you rent" and "throw caution to every warning sign" and "watch out world here I are" DO NOT WORK.

I don’t blame the songwriters for this, because I’m sure they are very talented people.

But they were clearly not the people who should have been in charge of the music.

Not to mention the fact that Julia Michaels was given TWO WEEKS to write “This Wish”….

The Characters

Asha 💜

I like Asha’s design enough, like her braids. But her personality is as bland as a scoop of vanilla ice cream (jk, vanilla ice cream is goated).

Lots of people have complained that the “adorkable” leading lady trope has worn out its welcome.

I used to disagree since those “quirky” characters were some of my favorites (Like Rapunzel, Mirabel, and Moana), but Asha has definitely reached my limit with them.

Rapunzel, Anna, Moana, and Mirabel all feel like distinct characters from each other (yeah stfu ModernGurlz), but Asha feels like an imitation of them, like the cheap Walmart version.

And she’s not really interesting either, she has a passion for art, but the film doesn’t do anything with it. In fact, nothing about her feels genuine. She feels so hollow and like she only has two personality traits: Quirky and the protagonist.

Like, during “This Wish” (which is probably the worst Disney “I want” song ever) I never felt connected with her. It just felt like, oh this is the Disney “I want” song because this is a Disney movie.

I didn’t understand what Asha wanted, “something more for us than this”? Okay…what about you? What do you want?

With all the other Disney “I want” songs, I could feel a connection and what the character wanted.

So yeah, Asha is probably the worst protagonist in the modern era of Disney. At least in terms of writing.

And while I did say I like her design, I prefer her concept arts.

King Magnifico 🫧

Chris Pine seems like he is having a blast in the recording booth, and I gotta say his performance was pretty good. But it wasn’t enough to save this character :/

So, the main problem with his character is that I can kinda agree with him on the whole wishes thing. But, I also barely found him threatening.

The most threatening things he does in this movie is crush a bunch of balls (that’s what she said) that make people feel sad and chain everyone to the ground.

Not only that, Magnifico’s use of his magic is SO LAME! Another major reason I was never intimated by him is because he never did anything really scary or threatening with his magic, all he could do was create giant hands and chain people up. Like…ok? Is that all you got? Really? 😑

Also, I don’t think I need to tell you that his villain song SUCKS ASS. You know it, everyone knows it. I’m not getting into it. Go listen to a real villain song like "Hellfire" or “Friends on the other side" instead.

As for the other characters, I don’t have much to say about them unlike Asha and Magnifico.

Star ⭐️

The Star was really really cute, even tho they were just a Luma/marketable plushie. And also REALLY reminds me of a squish mallow, am I the only one who sees that?

I should definitely mention how he was originally gonna be a StarBoy, but we’ll get to that later don’t you worry. That is a VERY important element in our discussion.

The Other Characters This Movie Has

Amaya is so BORING! She barely has a character outside of being the queen and Magnifico’s wife, she was just…there. You could remove her from the movie with very little tweaking and nothing would change.

I would’ve preferred it if she was also a villain like Magnifico, which WAS originally in the script. But like StarBoy, that is something we will get to later.

The Teens are fine, but really forgettable. I like how they are all based off the Seven Dwarves, that’s cute. But it feels like they didn’t have any character outside of that.

Yeah, Dahlia is Asha’s bestie, but there wasn’t enough scenes between them to show me their dynamic to make me feel like their friendship was genuine.

Simon ended up snitching out on Asha and betraying the Teens in the middle, but I literally couldn’t have cared less because what do we know about this guy other than he’s sleepy and gave his wish to Magnifico?

As for the other Teens, just like Amaya, they could’ve been removed from the script and barely anything would change. The grumpy one had some sassy moments, and he’s voiced by Harvey Guillén (Perrito’s VA) so that’s something I guess. The shy one had this one gag that had comedic potential, but wasn’t really expanded.

And as for the other Teens…uh…I can’t remember a single thing they did honestly.

And then there’s Valentino…fuck that goat man. 😑 I love Alan Tudyk and

Uhh…Asha’s grandpa was build up as someone important but he just peaces out in the middle of the movie with Asha’s mom, who did not do a single thing other than a ball getting shattered making her sad.

And that’s all the characters in this movie.

Legacy Nods, why they do not work

Alright, what else is there to talk about?

Maybe the endless amount of Disney references? I get it’s the 100th anniversary film and all and Disney has had Hidden Gems like that in their films. But the difference is the ones in previous films were subtle and hidden in the background, and it would probably take you a rewatch to see it.

But in Wish? They all feel shoved down your throat. It’s like: “HEY REMEMBER THIS MOVIE??" “REMEMBER THAT??” “DON’T YOU WANNA WATCH THAT MOVIE???” It’s so exhausting.

When I heard the movie was gonna have “legacy nods” as they liked to call it, I was excited and thought it would be so much fun to point them all out and to pay closer attention to the background.

But instead every nod was thrown at my face and was heavily obvious. Disappointing 😔

The Animation

Let’s get to the animation now. It’s probably (one of) the most discussed things about this movie, especially when the teaser first dropped last year.

Lots of people were complaining it looks like a Disney Junior show or Ai and said it looks unfinished. Even one of my best friends who was just as excited for this movie as I was admitted it looked weird.

At first, I loved this art style and thought it was beautiful. And I was determined it would look even more beautiful on the big screen.

And now? I…actually still like it. I definitely don’t hate it, and thinks it gets some getting used to. I think it’s actually kinda pretty.

Apparently it’s supposed to be watercolor and combined with 2D animation, which is neat.

But compared to the films like the Spider Verse films or Puss In Boots 2, yeah it’s not the best.

I personally would’ve preferred it if the film was in 2D, Disney’s 100th anniversary would’ve been a PERFECT time to return 2D animation! But, nope 😒

Yeah it’s bad, but…

I know I’m making it seem like I hate this movie, but I really don’t. I’m disappointed in it more than anything.

If anything, I’m thankful this movie was still made.

Why?

Well, easy.

It allowed many people to be able to tell their own version of the story.

I’m sure we’ve all heard of StarBoy and the cut Evil Amaya.

And yeah, these concepts could’ve made this movie 1000x better.

But because of these concepts, so many amazing people have been given the opportunity to rewrite the movie and give amazing stories.

I have read so many wonderful Wish rewrites, which are so much better than the film.

At the end of the today, Wish is a bad movie.

But, I’m glad it exists.

Without it, we wouldn’t have gotten so many amazing stories.

I’m gonna give Wish a 4/10, still bad, but I appreciate its existence for the rewrites alone.

4 If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Hmm… I went back and forth a lot with this. Star Trek is right there… but I choose Over the Garden Wall. His skillset would be distinct there, and it could be interesting to watch how his mechanical mind does, or sometimes doesn’t, come in handy in the various metaphysical situations they find themselves in. Also, it’s a story about family, and trauma is a big recurring theme. I think there could be interesting opportunities both for him to grow and to help. He’d be older than Wirt and Greg and would definitely try to help—but would they trust him? He’s a big talking turtle and he’s carrying a weapon. He and Beatrice would get along I think, but Wirt also doesn’t trust her. Greg would remind him so much of Mikey it hurts.

I don’t know, I feel like this one is a nice compromise between others I was thinking of. He’d get to use his skills but wouldn’t be too useful, lots of new different things for him to explore and learn about, some friends for him to make, some horrors to be had.

Whether it looks like telling someone about what’s been weighing on him, a slow adjustment to a new situation, pursuing a healthy relationship and making himself an identity outside of his trauma… the common thread is, it’s comforting and fun to write about his life getting better after all the horrors he’s seen. I project on this guy like crazy, legit sometimes my stories start out as personal pieces exploring how I might take action to heal from past events, but make him do it instead because his hurts are more concrete and healing is easier to imagine. Then if I think it’s in character or a fun concept, I polish it up for sharing

What I don’t like? writing technobabble. I want him to come up with clever solutions and show off his tech skills, but that would require me to think of clever solutions and understand science well enough to pretend to talk about it. Especially difficult when it’s not just real science, I gotta try to figure out which ideas I’m taking from canon and whether I have to/even can expand on them in a way that makes any sense. So it’s figuring out how to make real science mesh with canon science, usually ending up with something that is… neither 😑

Louis: 

Sexuality Headcanon: I think Louis is pretty asexual tbh. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t participate in sexual or romantic activities but I think while Louis likes intimacy, his brand is more skewed toward cuddling under a blanket together reading a book or watching a movie. 

Gender Headcanon: Oversized dusty sweaters are Louis’ gender. Also he identifies as tired. 

A ship I have with said character: Louis/Lestat of course! Louis, regrettably, realizes that Lestat is his person. I also think his relationship with Armand is complex and fascinating. 

A BROTP I have with said character: I can’t put Daniel for every one of these (but I think after some awkwardness on Night Island and again in TG, they are friends!) so uh… maybe Antoine. Honestly they’d have a hell of a lot to talk about if nothing else. 

A NOTP I have with said character: Again, I just don’t have a lot of these. Maybe Gabrielle? Although I hope they kissed under the mistletoe one year at the Coven Christmas party just to watch Lestat squirm. 

A random headcanon: I think Louis enjoys folding laundry. For all his sitting around in dusty old clothes, I think he finds the process of folding–especially warm stuff right out of the dryer–soothing. I imagine TG sends their laundry out but also has a pretty sizable laundry room for when it’s needed and I can see Louis doing a load of towels or blankets and then sitting on the sofa and folding them neatly. 

General Opinion over said character: Louis was my first guy in this fandom. I guess you call it a blorbo now. I’ve always appreciated his cynicism and his love of reading, his desire to learn more about his kind. The reunion scene in TVL is one of my faves, as are Louis’ scenes with Lestat in TotBT.

Marius:

Sexuality Headcanon: We wants to be dommed and would rather die than admit it

A ship I have with said character: Marius/Pandora is fun. I like him with someone who can stomp on his dick.

And whether you see Daniel and Marius as platonic or romantic, I do really like them together. I think Daniel’s sense of humor and directness are refreshing for Marius, and Daniel gets him to try new things. Marius is a grounding force in Daniel’s life and a constant, even-keel source of love and affection. I also think Daniel could be a great mediator between him and Armand and/or Lestat and maybe that’s why Mr. Molloy is not in the last book. 

A BROTP I have with said character: IDK man… Marius is the person who desperately needs a bro but is awkward and stoic and refuses to ask for help or admit he wants to hang out and thus is often alone (relatable AF tbh). 

A NOTP I have with said character: I don’t really have one. I don’t know, to me a NOTP is a strong aversion bordering on squick, and I just don’t have a lot of that in this fandom. 

A random headcanon: I think sometimes he Facetimes Daniel from Court when he’s not there to ask his opinion about innocuous things like which tie he should wear or what color they should paint a wall, not because he needs another opinion but because he likes to hear Daniel’s take on random stuff and hear what Daniel is up to, and it often leads to long, tangential conversations about the most random stuff.  General Opinion over said character: Marius is great! I don’t know why he gets so much flack in fandom (I mean, I do, but 😑😑). He is absolutely that guy who tries to hold things together and seems like he’s got it all figured out until you get to know him and then you realize he’s kind of a dork and doesn’t know any more than anyone else. He’s just doing his best!

he's just Taehyung™️! aka himbo police dispatcher drabble series sneak peek

wherein you’re taehyung’s long-term, long distance, low commitment, casual girlfriend (aka a barbie movie-inspired drabble!!)

Taehyung’s a hit in the precinct.

He’s not the only dispatcher in the office, but it feels like he is most of the time given the amount of attention he gets. He’s not the brightest nor the quickest either, but he still gets praised as if. He has a uniform, unlike you, and he wears and pulls “the living fuck out of it” as told by your chief.

“So you’re telling me that in this whole precinct, I’m the only one who knows that you and Taehyung are a thing?” Seokjin scrunches his nose, taking a bite of the donut you’ve willingly bought him. It’s one of the only cliches he allows himself (he figures he can because he’s the chief and nobody else is gonna make fun of him for it except you) as he chews noisily, harder to digest what you’re saying instead of the sugar.

“We’re not exactly a thing,” you mumble, sinking further to the chair in front of him. You’re not being interrogated and yet the war in your mind is just the same; almost equivalent to the number of people who throw themselves at Taehyung on a daily basis. “It’s uhm, it’s hard to explain.”

“Come on. You’re a detective, Y/N. You know better than to fumble with your words like that,” he teases, his tone lighter than it is serious. It does help that the two of you are more familiar with each other than anyone else (except for Taehyung in your case) in the whole precinct because you were childhood friends, the casualness present for you to even have a conversation of this nature. “Explain, or I’ll pull you off your case.”

“Jin!” you shriek in panic, on the verge of breaking because you can never tell when he’s messing with you or when he’s serious about pushing his powers. You’re only placated by his laugh, the sorry look that crosses his face right after making you want to be insulted again instead of pitied.

“You’ve been whatever you are to Taehyung for years, and the both of you have been working here for even longer. The fact that I’m the only one who knows what’s going on is concerning,” he shrugs, handing you the last bit of his donut that you only stare at. You should be disgusted that he’s left you a piece with teeth marks to begin with, but you don’t focus on that.

Instead, your stomach churns because Seokjin is right.

“Have you ever seen the Barbie movie?” he hums, aware of the turmoil in your mind but he decides to test you further just so that if you’d hurt, it would only happen at this instance instead of being dragged out.

“No. I don’t like going to theaters alone and… Tae didn’t wanna watch it,” you mumble towards the end, feeling more pathetic the more that you try to grasp what exactly you are (and aren’t) to him.

“Figures,” your chief mumbles, shaking his head. “I’ll torrent it for you and we won’t report each other for piracy. Does that sound good?”

“That’s good, Jin. Random too,” you chuckle, toying with your badge. Seokjin’s on his way out of the office and your eyes would follow him to keep eye contact — if only you didn’t see Taehyung at the corner of your eye, laughing boisterously as yet another coworker brings him a cup of coffee that he didn’t even want. You clear your throat to keep your composure, determined not to break. “What’s Barbie got to do with me anyway?”

“I won’t spoil it, but I think you’re Barbie,” he purses his lips, tapping his hand against the doorframe out of habit, but mostly to keep you awake and away from your thoughts. “Taehyung’s unfortunately Ken, and you just happen to be his long-term, long distance, low commitment, casual girlfriend.”

just saw revolution for the 3rd time just to confirm that all my worst fears came true in the worst way imaginable GOD it was disgusting!  like there really are people out there who think there was some kind of "not everyone can be redeemed" message behind that vengeful, sickening, and even downright toxic writing, lol!  with the incredible amount of inconsistencies, dodgy, repetitive and poorly written dialogue behind Chloe's arc frankly i feel like people just stopped at the thought of the post and didn't really pay attention to it  what was told behind.  I especially like those people who say that Chloe will be able to taste her own medicine because now child abuse has become acceptable because she is mean!  wonderful!

  Am I supposed to be proud of Andre?  the good joke?  the man who abused his power time and time again for Chloe, who never called her out on her way of treating others, acting like a scared dog in front of his own daughter but now that he sees the error of his  manners does he decide to take responsibility for his daughter's actions?  to be a better father?  to scold her?  to advise her?  to give him limits and as FELIX would say to help him move forward in life as any parent worthy of the name would do?  nooooo of course he divorces him, keeps the nice girl with him and throws the human waste into the arms of his mother who of course has been held up as a "role model" all this time and I'm supposed to call that good writing, people are  they aware of what they are watching or not?

  let it be clear André bourgeois was never the victim of anyone even less of Chloé, he had the power to do what he did from the start, he just lacked the will and now that he gets  what is he doing?  HE THROWS IT????  no but wake up! it's Chloé's FUCKING FATHER my GOD do you really think it's the right thing to do here????André bourgeois is only what he has always been here: irresponsible  , a coward, a bad father and a poor guy!  he does not take responsibility for anything neither for abusing his power nor for supporting his daughter in these abuses all this time, he is rewarded with a nicer girl that he appropriates while he has NO  RIGHT of any kind on her but hey I'm sure Mr Lee will have no problem finding out that his daughter was left to her co-husband🤣🤣🤣, by the powers conferred on him he ejects himself from the town hall and divorces  in a snap of your fingers like man😑😑😑 you're not malediktor anymore that's not how it works!!! god the logic of the world is completely off the rails in this universe😧😧😧 he can now live his life as a movie director without worrying about his daughter  irreparable that he throws into the arms of his ex-wife without a second thought and from what I see we are witnessing the beginning or the continuity (at your choice) of the cycle of abuse from mother to daughter and we public must applaud without any form  reflection!

  the double standards and hypocrisy behind the writing of this series will never cease to disgust me and amaze me with how Thomas and his cronies always find a way to sink lower than before every time!  because yes they are ALL RESPONSIBLE, I want Thomas to have influence but from the moment you accept that shit like this should be broadcast you have a serious problem!  I don't hate Chloé or André or the other characters I just pity them because at the end of the day they are just the victims of a man with an oversized ego made megalomaniac by the success of what he has  created!  the redemption of the notorious terrorist who terrorized the city and abused his son for months will just be the culmination of some of the most mediocre writing I've ever seen on a show  for child!  even the adrienette kiss didn't inspire me anything their debut in origins not bad, evolution sucked, fixation sucked, interaction as a couple sucked EVERYTHING was boring!!!marichat was definitely my favorite here!

oof, not liking peeta mellark, i will never understand that. i won’t be adding book quotes here (i’m on vacation so this will be a rather short analysis), just my interpretation of his character from both the books and the movies (but mostly the books). 

peeta has so many incredible qualities, but i think one of the most important ones, is definitely his ability to remain kind in the face of a monstrous world. this doesn’t mean he’s an angel by any means, he kills people, he wins the games but he’s kind. he grows up in an abusive household, he grows up in district 12, he goes and wins the hunger games, and he remains kind and in a way that’s his special form of resistance, which i adore. he gives katniss the bread we all know that, but the implications behind it are incredibly powerful, he’s giving her that bread and that comes with a high cost for him, he’s getting beat by his mother for it, and he doesn’t care because he has the opportunity to help katniss. he never mentions it to her again, doesn’t expect anything in return, he just helped her because it was the right thing to do, in fact when she bring it up, he seems surprised at the fact that she thinks she owns him, not because he’s a merchant like katniss thinks but because he doesn’t think he deserves any special treatment for doing the right thing.

calling peeta a weakling is just insane to me, him and katniss’ dynamic is interesting because it’s a role reversal from the usual, she’s the fighter, he’s the emotional one and yet, he is still incredibly strong. he canonically kills kids in the first games, he expertly manipulates the entire capitol during both of his interviews with caesar, he loses his leg and then trains like crazy for the quarter quell to keep katniss alive, he kills brutus in the quell, he survives getting hijacked and then he fights it, he survives the attack on the capitol. he’s always fighting for katniss’ life and for his own. 

describing peeta as a stalker is just inaccurate, he starts off the series as a boy with a crush/first love on katniss, he pays attention to her, he glances at her while they’re at school, normal things to do when you have a crush. never does anything stalker-y. the only time he uses his crush as a tool, it’s to help katniss win the hunger games! he knows he won’t win, from the start he’s doing everything he can to help katniss win. 

peeta mellark is fundamentally a caring person, who goes through hell in the course of all of the books and movies and despite all of that hell, he tries his hardest to remain kind and caring and supportive, he just wants to find peace and happiness in a world torn by war and i find that to be incredibly admirable. he gets hijacked, all of his love for katniss gets twisted into hatred by the capitol and he fights to change it back, he fights to get rid of the hatred and the anger, he fights to become himself again which is something no one else has ever done. 

in the books, his character isn’t just a love interest (i have issues with the movies and the way the pushed the “love triangle” into the spotlight) he’s katniss’ friend, he is the one who understands her the most, he is her peace. peeta mellak is soft and caring and kind and that doesn’t make him weak, it makes him strong because remaining soft and caring and kind in a world as harsh and after a life has hard as he had is the most difficult thing to do. it’s what katniss wants to do in the ned of the books and she wants to do it with peeta. 

peeta mellark is a complex character, he had depth and layers and reducing him to being “weak” or a “stalker”, erases an incredible amount of nuance that suzanne collins provided, it’s missing a huge point.

Not as often as I should thanks to working from home (and also some slight knee issues recently from a trip/fall over a month ago), but I do--as some gym selfies can attest to 😅 Currently can usually only go once a week on weekends when I can commute, and I’m not commuting 40 mins+ to/from after a long day lol; if I’m in our office, I’d go 3-ish times/week after work since it’d be a 20-min walk from there. (I did well trying to do some of Tom Daley’s workout videos before work for a while during COVID, and I’m trying to get back to that for some consistency--if only I could work on my sleep to be less groggy about it...)

favorite actor? 

Hmm... I feel like I don’t watch movies often enough to really have one ready to go in my mind haha (not for a lack of wanting to).  But I always did like Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight; can’t immediately think of someone more recent 😅

Getting all the way to the subway stop four blocks and a staircase away as I’m running late for something and realizing I left my MetroCard at home 😑

Well, I did want to work in meteorology somehow since I found it so interesting growing up, and while I loved learning more about it all, between what I’ve done work-wise in the decade since (working as a barista, a brief startup job, temping a bit, then landing my current five-year job), I don’t know how I’d define it now lol (also, not quite knowing how to get any experience in the field now a decade on).  I guess as long as it’s an ethical workplace, my needs are met, I like the vibes/people and the work I’m doing, I feel valued for what I’m offering, and it lets me learn and grow, it’d be up there. (Though maybe using my Japanese would be a good bonus...)

1. I really like the name Alizeh! I think it’s of Persian origin and it means “wind”. But me and my sister are literally fighting rn over who gets to name their kid this name if it’s a girl! She might win tho bc I have no prospects in sight for dating, let alone starting a family hehe 😅

2. Hand holding! I hold everyone’s hands (not in a weird way). I’ll just go up to my co-residents and be like “give me your hand”, and then I’ll hold their hand for a minute and warm it up and they think it’s so cute 🥺

3. If I get one hand wet, I can’t dry it off, I need to wet the other hand and dry them both. I dislike the feeling of having only hand be damp 😑

4. Winter!!! I feel like my style is at its best during the winter bc I can add lots of layers and elements whereas in the summer I stick to workout clothes and t shirts bc the heat is no joke! Also winter is just fun with all the holiday activities and snow! I’m totally a cold weather person ❄️

5. I don’t really think I have a favorite group besides bts! I do listen to a lot of different k-artists though! Some of my favorites right now are Bibi and NewJeans!

6. For books, I recently read All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir and it made me full on sob with how heartbreaking it was 😭 for movies, I watched 20th Century Girl and cried at that one too bc I just couldn’t take the ending 💜 I’m in a heartbreak mood these days lol

hi! I just wanna tell you that DEAR M IS LOSER JAEHYUN'S ERA. Lol kidding aside. I noticed that he was kinda stiff (idk if thats the right word) and that his actions are kind of awkward. The little twitch over here and there... some quirks i do when i feel awkward. He does that when he's not even at the center. Like you'll notice how awkward he felt at that moment. But dont get me wrong i love jaehyun sm. I just feel like he can do more if he's given a chance to star in another drama. ALSO he's a good kisser (on screen). I didnt gasp when i saw him raise his shirt and the camera zoomed in his abs bcos come on thats a normal occurrence in ncity. But ppl only talked about how he looked good (thats given GIVEN) and all stuff. I barely see any post on twt about his skills.

i figured he was going to be awkward. like idols in dramas/movies are to bring in the money and that's it. not because they have a natural god given gift for acting, which makes me feel so bad for them especially those who really want/wanted to act like when BTS' V was in that one historical drama like i knew how much he wanted to act and i was so happy for him (though i still haven’t watched it) and then people rained on his parade saying he sucked. like what do you expect an Oscar winning performance? it’s his first time. if he didn't suck and was good i’d wonder why he was an idol in the first place 😝

improvisation makes me think is something that might be good for jaehyun during those “i’m not the main focus” moments. i think lots of people well known or beginning should take improve classes every now and then to learn/refresh their skills! plus i think it would be super fun! sorta like what they did when they were the college students he’s pretty quick on his feet when people give him a chance to get his thoughts together; and witty too 😊

what you said about his twitching/quirks reminded me of that. i for sure (despite not having watched it) think if given more than one chance he'll be able to grow comfortable enough during those in between moments ^^

i'm like terrified for winwin and yuta's acting debuts. people who are fans of yuta seem to have all these high expectations but from the trailer i'm like "eh, reminds me of Gokusen but edgier" lol i love yuta but i'm expecting it's going to be him glaring daggers (which he's amazing at doing already), the typical japanese tough school boy/tough guy growl (idk how they do this when they talk but i secretly love it), then proceed into a fight scene where the camera work is about about a C+ where you can clearly see no actual physical contact happened 🤣 but this is such a great opportunity for yuta and it’s like FINALLY he gets a chance to shine on his own and for winwin...like winwin is secretly my spirit animal 😊 but i'm not expecting much from him. he doesn't really "emote/react" that much when around the nct members and with wayv (though i did see laughing, talking, etc. more) it doesn't make me think like 'yeah he's going to be a decent actor" but he looks like he's having so much fun and that's all i care about ^^ when you do something you love and have fun doing it you’re not actually “working” so winwin fighting!

i hate that people only talk about his looks…i'm not a super ultra mega jaehyun stan or anything (i have very little memory of his exsistence in 127 until he came out in the regular teaser in the business suit and even then i thought ‘yeah he’d be that guy in the office all the women want to f*ck’ 🤣 and that was it. but he is a complex human being who is more than just a pretty face. there are times where i feel like he wants to say something but stops himself or someone interrupts before he can get his words out. i feel bad for him at times and wish people would stop obsessing over his appearance (but that's just me)

ugh…twitter is just fanwars and people trying to get their favorite member to trend by doing these “appreciation posts” saying things like "thank you for giving me a reason for being able to live day after day. my one and only love (insert nct member name)" [legit just saw this in regards to haechan on twitter since his name was trending] like bish….?!!!! are you for real?! please tell me that you have other reasons for living day after day and not because of some idol you don't even know lmao

i'm an oldie i've been listening to kpop since about '08/'09 and the only problem with having listened to kpop for that long is I'M SUPER CRITICAL of all these new groups lol like if y'all don't impress me like people did in SNSD/BIG BANG/2NE1 etc. then yeah…not gonna listen to you at all until you peek my interest...plus i'm just legit getting old and they are debuting babies now... -_- 14 IS TO DAMN YOUNG!!!

it’s been on my mind but i want to talk about, or rather just gush about one of the doujin i physically own (edit after the fact: I sorta end up talking about two) .It’s a book I enjoy a lot! ...even though I can’t read a word of it.

it’s zounose from circle Yakumi Sarai (which as far as I know is a one person circle so basically its zounose’s ‘business name’)’s kamikamikami (< click for store page). I bought this sometime last year. It was in fact sometime last year where I really started going hard in on the impulse purchases, but when it comes to physical stuff like this, I don’t think I have any regrets?

It’s a comic featuring a simple but cool story. Probably. I’m pretty sure! I can’t read a word of japanese but... I feel like for this this story, i happened to be enough of a touhou nerd and enough of a mythology-related-to-touhou nerd that I got the grand gist of everything?

Said very general gist is that tewi is in trouble, she’s bedridden at the moriya shrine, and the eighty brothers from the the story of the hare of inaba are coming to get her. 💀(x80)

But even though tewi was apparently resigned to her fate, eirin is dedicated to helping her, and she gets help from the moriya crew, mostly kanako! And there’s a big action scene where they fight off the army and save the day. Perfect premise for a self-contained touhou summer movie 💥

zounose is one of my fav doujin artists though I’ll admit that’s not much coming from me because not only do I have a lot of ‘favs’, but all it really takes to be granted that title is that they had to have made more than one thing I’ve really liked! On top of me really wanting to own at least one book of theirs in my hand, I also was really drawn to this one in particular because honestly, off the top of my head I really can’t think of many stories that centers on Eirin, that wasn’t just her playing straightman or giving tough love to Kaguya and/or Reisen.

Plus its also rare to see Tewi in a role that’s not just being a prankster.

Though here’s tewi almost killing suwako for singing about frogs instead of rabbits.

Actually i do have a bit more understanding of some select scenes that I otherwise would have, because scans of this book were uploaded onto a p*rn site which were translated into chinese!

...i’m still too illiterate in my own mother tongue to have been able to read the chinese translations properly 😰 But it helped... It’s admittedly a kind of a little, or a Lot embarrassing for me to be so fond of something I can’t read.

I really really really like this scene of Eirin telling Tewi about how much of a debt she and Kaguya owe her for housing them, and pleading for Tewi to let Eirin help her with the whole eighty guys want to kill her problem, before Tewi refuses... 😢 But like, i’m only grasping the broad strokes of this and every other scene in the book! Right now, I can’t possibly appreciate the writing and passion put into this book as much as someone who actually knows the language is meant to. 😑

This is a barely related tangent at this point but now that it’s on my mind, there’s another book I own, hisona’s ‘drowning in nostalgia’ (< again, click for store page) or something to that effect that is really special to me...

it’s full of very evocative imagery and sorrowful expressions that really spoke to me (admittedly just slightly dampened because this artist has always had a bit of a sameface problem >_> ) and this whole doujin and its portrayal of Kutaka has become quite near to my heart over time... (u_u🐤i want be piyo the little chick who watches over her...)

...And I have no idea what a single word in it says!! I mean I have enough knowledge again of touhou and the related myths invoked in this story that i was able to infer, but if I tried going into detail,I’m sure I’d just greatly embarrass myself, acting so moved by a story i can’t possibly grasp the complete context of, and sounding like some weeb like from that troll comic who is only moved by images because they come from japan!! 💩💩 💩 (it’s actually because its touhou)

The truth is this whole train of thought with wanting to talk about kamikamikami was because i saw a lot of jpn twitter artists preparing doujins for reitaisai tomorrow, and wondering to myself if there’s really any point if me having these in my hands, ordering them when they’d definitely be more appreciated in the hands of people who can like, actually read the language. 🤔 ...well i mean, im happy to own them, and i’m supporting the creators with my purchases, so its probably still a net positive in the end. Just every now and then I feel a little silly as I look over them and start feeling emotional over dialogue that I’m just... assuming is heartfelt and wonderfully evocative n_n;;;;
