So as a Polish person, I both love and hate Polish! Ice as a headcanon, but my grandma is half-Italian and somehow this manifested into Italian! Mav so here we go (spoiler: there's a lot of food involved):

Mav's mom was first generation Italian born in NYC, lived in Staten Island until she married Mav's dad - her family was from Bologna

Mav, despite the hero worship he had for his dad, was mamma's boy

she could speak Italian well and did so around the house but never taught Mav, and what little Italian he could speak, he forgot once she died and he wasn't around the language

she, however, left him their family cookbook, entirely written in Italian, and so recipes are the only text he can understand without googling a lot

after he retires, he wants to take some Italian lessons with Ice

as mentioned in one of my post's tags, the few words he remembers and are still natural to him are pet names; he calls Ice caro (dear??) like his mom called his dad, mio angelo, tesoro (sweetheart/honey??) and when Bradley was small and he was tired, he'd call him bambino

He also uses sei un raggio di sole (you are a ray of sunshine) sarcastically when Ice is grumpy -- it's a phrase his mom used when he was grumpy as a kid

he couldn't say 'I love you' to Ice for some time so instead, he'd say ti voglio tanto bene and then eventually moved to ti amo and then to English

he actually really likes to cook, he just needs to cook for someone - he was taught that cooking is a sign of love so he likes to cook for their family, but not just for himself

Bradley couldn't eat nutella for years b/c Mav's homemade nocciolata was so much better. Ice could literally kill for his nocciolata-filled bomboloni and ricotta and strawberry jam crostata

Slider often 'visits' them to get their leftovers and had once asked Mav to make him aubergine parmigiana and shrimp risotto as a birthday present

Mav makes Ice tiramisu as a pick-me-up when he needs to leave for long

Mav loves wine but it must be complimentary with the meal

he makes his own pasta and if you're in the kitchen while he's making it, he's going to use you to roll or knead the dough for him

when Carole was getting sick but still staying at home, he'd make batches of ravioli, tortellini, tortelloni, mezzelune, cappelletti -- any stuffed pasta that could be frozen and then quickly boiled -- so Bradley would have dinner when Carole was having a bad day

he refuses to ever make fettuccine alfredo as a rule b/c it's boring and its american, and will never make meatballs to serve with spaghetti, but Ice broke him and he now finally can do the americanized marinara sauce

their house has plenty of jars -- homemade pesto (3-4 different kinds), a mayo-sized jar of oregano, thyme, rosemary, a jar with grana padano in the fridge and a whole shelf filled only with different kinds of oil, cooking wine and vinegar, and a little garden with fresh basil and, once they moved to San Diego, tomatoes. Ice has to remember to water it when Mav is away in the summer

he does the stereotypical arm waving and shoulder shrugging while talking but only when he is either worked up or tired

they also have that one special kind of plates, white with blue and yellow decor and sunflowers on the main dish plate

As a bonus, Polish Ice headcanons:

Ice's mom emigrated during WWII but his dad was second gen born in the US -- she was from Gdansk

he can cook pretty well, especially polish recipes, since he often helped her cook at home

he, however, hates cooking. But he will absolutely stress-make pierogi if he can, usually a huge batch of like 50 or something

he did hand over the polish recipes to Mav - the only thing is, Mav refuses to make bigos for him (b/c he'd need to make his own sauerkraut and it stinks)

he drinks his vodka neat, in a glass, not as shots, adds coke if he's going for a 'light-drinking night'

he occasionally goes to mass at a Polish church - he, usually, doesn't understand most of what's being said but his mom used to take him to one each Sunday and it's now a form of comfort

His favorite childhood meals were placki ziemniaczane (potato pancakes) with mushroom sauce and pyzy (type of dumplings) with plums, which Mav can now make in his sleep

he's never attempting to learn Polish

but he wants to visit Gdansk and the Polish seaside once every few years

You guys already know that I love Phoenix so of course I had to get a show from this sumner's tour. I did have a hometown show in Philly but since my friend was in town and we had already seen a show at the Mann this week, we flexed to the MSG show. I did check the setlist and we got the standard which is a perfect hour of songs.

Last time I saw Phoenix was right before Alpha Zulu was released so I had seen a lot of the visuals the band uses in their show. Kinda nice to know what to expect so I could plan for what I wanted to record and what I just wanted to enjoy. I mostly just enjoyed since our view wasn't straight on the stage which makes a difference with their visuals. Thomas kept his stage banter to a minimum since they were tight on time but he did call out playing in NYC and specifically MSG. "All of our favorite memories are here." Surely he added to that as the crowd was very enthusiastic (a lot of us left after Phoenix and skipped Beck altogether.) At the end of the show where he usually comes out to crowdsurf, he ended up going up the stairs to the 100s section so that was very cool. He did end up crowdsurfing back onto stage. But that was all. Definitely left wanting more but happy I got to see them at MSG!

¿Quién soy?

Muchas veces nos hacen esta pregunta buscando algún tipo de frente sobre lo que somos, pero ¿realmente lo sabemos?. Nos referimos a ¿quién soy? ¿mi origen? ¿lo que podría llegar a ser? ¿lo que hago? ¿lo que sueño? ¿lo que hice? ¿lo que escucho? ¿lo que me gusta? ¿lo que ves? ¿lo que vi? ¿lo que temo? ¿lo que he hecho? ¿a quién amo? ¿lo que perdí? ¿lo que ya viví? ¿lo que quiero vivir? Creo fríamente que soy una combinación de todas aquellas cosas por las que he pasado, cada situación por la que me he cruzado me han hecho crecer y evolucionar. Sin mencionar que también por las que me faltan vivir. Usualmente podría responder a la pregunta “¿quién soy?” como algo muy banal, diciendo mi nombre, edad, lugar de nacimiento y mi sexo, pero, ¿realmente solo soy eso? Claro que soy una mujer joven con nombre y apellidos, soy una persona existiendo en la ciudad de México, pero también soy exactamente lo que cada uno de nosotros somos, ni mejor, ni peor. Porque al final nadie es ni será exactamente igual a ti o a mi. Somos diferentes versiones del mismo ser y yo soy una de esas versiones, así que una respuesta concreta no podría ofrecer ya que estoy en constante evolución, cada día soy una persona nueva, ya sea con nuevos conocimientos o con otro tipo de pensamientos, incluso podría mencionar como ejemplo; físicamente, un día podría traer el cabello largo y al siguiente corto o decolorado. Me gustaría responder a la pregunta mas sencillamente, cómo un: “Conóceme y sabrás realmente quién soy”.

5 años adelante… ¿Cómo visualizar mi vida en algo tan complejo como la relatividad del tiempo? Algo tan incierto pero que al final todos soñamos y creemos. Sin embargo en 5 años podría visualizarme terminando mi carrera, ya con empleo e independiente y posiblemente viviendo en NYC, me gustaría ir cumpliendo cada una de mis metas, hacer lo que me apasiona que es el cine y toda la producción qué hay detrás; en el camino ir aprendiendo de cada uno de los obstáculos que puedan llegar a presentarse, aprendiendo de mi crecimiento y de las experiencias que estaré para vivir e incluso de las personas que estaré destinada a conocer, sinceramente en 5 años me veo feliz y poniendo de mi para cumplir lo que algún día me propuse, creando una nueva versión de mi cada día de mi vida. “No puedes ver las estrellas sin tener una noche obscura”. Esta frase podría decir que en este momento de mi vida engloba lo qué pasa por ella, poniendo en contexto el porqué de la frase. Estuve un año sin estudiar creyendo que mi futuro se vería afectado por esa circunstancia, fue un año duro y complejo, pero ahora he evolucionado y al tener la oportunidad que tengo ahora de poder estudiar en la universidad que siempre quise, para mi fue ver las estrellas, gracias a mi noche llena de obscuridad, fue mi impulso hacia la luz, hacia querer brillar y seguir adelante con mis metas para que de esa manera me sea posible cumplir lo que en 5 años me veo haciendo.

ti amo nyc! seeing phoenix 3x with feenix friends (jul 5 - 7 2018)

So! 3 days of phoenix with wonderful people in new york (my first time in nyc!), I don’t even know where to begin x.x (Pictures are on IG, video on YT). The Speciale shows are beautiful and incredible, and the boys put so much thought, detail, and love into it all. It was one of the best experiences in my life and it was so fun seeing everyone at the shows!!

under the cut is pretty much a rambling summary of the shows (amazing and adorably decorated), cute moments, and when we met them (ft. my fav convo with branco abt pokemon and witnessing brotherly tension)

7/5 | Night 1 💗

the show The show was amazing! It had been 7 months since I had last seen them. We were between Deck and Chris, I settled for the second row (I could have squished to the barrier but it was more comfortable to just be behind a little). That day was super humid and hot, so this show was probably the most sweatiest, but so satisfying. It was such a fun time! We got consolation prizes which is always super great! And countdown for Mads aaaaa (it was her 21st birthday, guess who (Chris ofc) sung to her 😭!!!) It was such a beautiful moment. They played Goodbye Soleil first and she was a bit down, but once it finished, COUNTDOWN happened! She was so happy it was the best reaction (what a complete 180 lol). Telefono was such a tune to hear live, I loved it! They were using the telefono booth instead of the red telephone (after the show you could get a polaroid in the booth for $1, such a cute idea whaaaa!!).

I thought for the Speciale they chose to use different guitars (Chris’s mint green, Branco’s array of guitars (black and red) instead of the og guitars (telecaster and cream bullet), but turns out they just didn’t have their regular guitars in time because their gear was still being held by air france until the 4th show lol.

after the show

thomas After the show, we went outside to wait (we should have wandered the disco afterparty that was happening inside! The boys were hanging out meeting fans). About an hour later, Thomas came outside first wearing a white tee and backpack on. It was a small group outside so he went around to everyone, signing stuff and taking photos, and he hugged everyone too! He was so nice and gentle as usual. He left shortly after because he said it was past his kids bedtime and he had to put them into bed, something sweet like that 😭. Romy was at the show (with we think, Cedric’s daughter?) and they were helping run the merch stand! It was too cute!! They were so sweet. They were also in front of the barrier at some songs on the far right jumping and having such a good time during the show! It was so pure. (And I guess Vee is bffs with Romy now hahaha).

deck Ok next up, Deck came out and was very chatty and goofy. He didn’t go to the afterparty. Vee said something about him being a charmer and he imitated playing a violin to be romantic, oh, he is so precious. Deck was really examining the Rally single I brought to get signed and he was like oh this is very rare and was looking at it, front and back. He was so nice and so cute 💘.

branco (and chris) Branco came out next and was so pretty wearing a koi fish print shirt. He has the best shirts. B was very friendly. Mads brought up the Coco thing (he signed as Coco on her INBLT booklet from the Manila show) and we got to hear him talk about his nickname again, it was so sweet and precious (his nieces call him Coco if you need a refresher). I love hearing him speak in general aaaa (you know me). Gotta say I also loved hearing him yell “Monsieur Mazzalai” at Chris because he was the last one needed to sign Mad’s awesome jacket. Chris made a face at him 😂. I had a few minutes with B and I am v happy he signed his name with the music note doodle! Sadly I didn't have the time to get to Chris bc he had to leave in a separate car (the rest of the boys got into one van, I remember Branco had a whole foods market bag aha). I did get to watch Chris run to the car with his suitcase which was funny and adorable, I love him.

7/6 | Night 2 💗

the show They did long distance call!! Aaah! I was finally at the barrier, right between Thomas and Deck (literally the center can you believe it). The show was amazing as usual and they had balloons that would rain down on us in italian flag colors. It was at this show where a lot of balloons were falling onto the stage so Deck was using his bass and hitting the balloons (og it was so precious). He was having so much fun. I got a Deck wink during the show too aaa 💖 . Also, they played Lovelife with Giorgio Poi which was really cool! The boys had told us yesterday that they had a special planned for tonight, and this was that! And, I got to touch Thomas’s hair lol he was in our section a lot! 💘

after the show

so many faces We stayed for the afterparty because the boys had told us last night to stay and meet them here. It was funny because we were all awkward at the party so we followed them around like children while other people were actually partying.

We saw Sofia!!! She was gorgeous, literally radiating. It was unreal to see her in person. Cosima was with her! We also saw Chris’s girlfriend! Ah they were so cute (they were getting sake, dancing by the DJ, it was adorable). Chris was going around everywhere, drinking a lot of sake and beer lol. I flagged him down once to say hi and he said hello and he pat my back and LEFT 😂. So I had to flag him down again to ask for rally to be signed. It was a bit uncomfortable to follow them around and when there’s a moment/you get the guts to say hi they are either with someone else or with family and you’re just standing there so awkwardly lol. It’s easier to talk to them when they’re outside vs inside with music playing and it being a bit dark. I think we all agreed on this.

branco I also spotted Branco too! I found him near the back by the merch and asked for a photo again. My phone was such a failure that it took a while to get a photo so when it was done he asked if it was okay, twice 😭 (it’s still a bit blurry but I think it’s cute). Sweet bb koala you are so precious 🐨.

7/7 | Night 3 💗

the show We were back at the barrier for the last night (for us), back to the right side between Deck and Chris. We got to hear playground love (waaaaaaah) and tuttifrutti! Playground love was so beautiful og 😭.

Throughout each night during sunskrupt, Branco would take a water break. A massive water break. He would drink water, keep the bottle at his lips and look into the screen, pondering life, then take another long drink of water. It was so long we were laughing and watching him drink water each night 😂 It was such a thing. I was that dork who took photos of this moment hahaha.

After playground love was countdown (when Chris came out, he brought his own guitar instead of picking up the one that was on stage, already tuned I think). Going into countdown, he had to put a capo on the guitar and tune it a bit, which took a very short amount of time but it was still something he had to do, and he was like ah merde! It was really funny and cute to hear him swear on stage since it was dead quiet 😂

cute speciale things I tried their phoenix sake and took a polaroid in the telefono booth! It’s so cute. I also tried their childhood sandwiches on a “DAMN good baguette” (yeah they advertised it like this) and I gotta say, it sure was tasty. I didn’t get to try the gelato. Everything was so cute, they had ti amo balloons and a disco ball. They had a DJ too (I remember seeing Hedlund and Daniel Glass DJ-ing). The super mercato was so cool but I heard it kept breaking. Luckily I was able to get the pins and patches I wanted! (Though I didn’t notice they had a blue ti amo patch until it was too late!) The merch table also had a lot of cool merch and some old stuff from Bankrupt!. The entire vibe of the place was amazing. Every glass surface was graffitied with phoenix ti amo nyc 💘.

after the show

chris and branco (ft. the greatest conversation) The afterparty this night felt a bit more natural for us. Maybe because we knew what to expect, but overall it was just more comfortable. At the party, we saw only Chris wandering around. We spoke to him and got to tell him we were all friends online and he was really surprised (it was cute). He was v thankful for us cheering so much! He was so smiley aaah. Mads finally was able to give him the cutest phoenix doodle she made (literal cutest he found himself and kept pointing to it 😭). I also remember a bit where Vee was talking about Deck’s spider pose and Chris was asking how to do it and then he tried to do it 😂 Chris is the best hahaha

After the venue kicked us out/ the party ended, we went outside and found that Branco was already outside talking to other fans. I was being silly on this last night and was speaking (was I loud?) about how cute he was to my friends and saying dumb things like look at those eyebrows and those cheeks (everything abt him is so cute ok i love this koala) and he stared into my soul 3 times (while talking to another group of fans) 🙈 and I didn’t know what to do im sorry for staring at u B 😭 💀 (you’re so pretty god!!)

Ok once it was our turn to talk to B, we talked to him abt…..pokemon 😂 (I don’t want to say too much but supposedly he has pokemon go and I love pokemon so you can imagine why we went down this path). It was a perfect opportunity since Vee also likes pokemon and her backpack featured the eevee evolutions. He was like ahh pokemon…. We asked him to pick a favorite from the backpack and I think he was confused (it was dark) and he pointed to eevee and named it as pikachu. The way he said it was so cute oh my god. He was like that’s pikachu (he said it twice). We were telling him that’s eevee and then he was saying that he is very old from another time, the shakespearean time. I think Vee then said he’s immortal or a vampire and he didn’t deny it. (idk why) I had to bring up the old cringe photoshoot they did where he looks like a vampire and he was watching and listening to me so intently as I was describing it. Mads saved it and just said it was posted on their IG and he was like ahh. (He probably was like these girls are so weird). Then he said that he knew the pokemon names but in french and so he pointed to vaporeon and said that’s aquali. It was SO CUTE. WOW. I can still hear his voice saying aquali. Literally so precious.

Switching topics, Mads was asking if he saw the super cute doodle she did that she gave to Chris and I think he said he didn’t, but Chris said he showed him? (this part is a little fuzzy for me). Branco said that Chris never lies, called him over and then they were discussing if Chris had shown him/if Branco was present. Chris said that Branco probably forgot, then shortly after they started to speak in french to each other and we felt like shit was going down right in front of us omg (brothers fighting?!). At the end of it Branco opened his mouth without saying anything, then closed it, speechless (or, I thought of a cat showing its teeth lol) it was insane.

Aaaaaa if you made it here thanks for reading 💗 It was such a cool time seeing phoenix with the feenix gang from online! I hope we all get to do it again in the future ✨ You all made this experience so memorable.

Primero que nada, pon la canción. Es música ambiental.

No sé realmente si te gustan estos detalles, pero no pierdo nada con intentarlo, además, como estudiante constante de filosofía no me cuesta mucho expresar mi sentir y mucho menos si es por ti.

Siento que tengo mil cosas que decirte, mil maneras de expresar lo mucho que te adoro. Voy a partir mencionando lo agradecida que estoy de haberme topado contigo, no me cabe duda en que eres una persona tan linda.

That First Year (Incantava)

Some future Incantava headcanons for @nnegan13 and the gc squad. There will be angst. (Some of these might be indirectly influenced by fics I’ve read so if I accidentally use your concept, I mean it as a compliment!)

After Edo's graduation, they do their best to pretend he isn’t leaving. That summer, they take their trip abroad, deciding on Paris, a week for just the two of them. There are road trips around Italy, usually with an assortment of their friends, and occasional concerts where they sing their hearts out among the crowd, the music keeping them awake deep into the night.

Ele meets Edo’s nonna in July. She is a nervous wreck the day before, wanting so badly to impress the most important relative in Edo’s life. She shouldn’t have worried though, Edo has been gushing about Ele for months. For the first year, she was only referred to as “The Girl,” after Fede makes an offhand comment in Nonna’s presence. After their sleepover at Edo’s apartment, Nonna has had an easier time getting information out of him about “Ele.” Nonna adores Ele immediately and privately decides that she will keep an eye on her when Edo is gone, taking her to lunch, the botanic gardens, etc.

But when it’s just the two of them, if no other plans arise, there is at least one day a week where Edo and Ele end up at the park laying back on a blanket under the trees. The first time they do this, Ele struggles to get Edo out of the house. They have his whole apartment, he argues, why can’t they just stay in bed? But once he’s there, Edo quickly falls in love with this peaceful getaway in the middle of their own city. From that day on, he is the one to get them out of the house, Ele laying on his chest or at his side as they work their way through books and gelato.

The last two weeks before Cornell hit them hard. Edo throws himself into the final touches of packing and preparing for his move, using this flurry of activity to distract him from thoughts of their impending separation. Ele becomes very quiet, unable to look at him for too long, but not wanting to miss a second of his company, following along on all his errands. Filippo silently makes sure she keeps eating (she does, but because of her past, Filo is right to be worried).

He spends their last night at her apartment. Filo makes plans to be out that weekend so they can have a few final hours of privacy. It is only then that Ele gives way to a moment of weakness, tears streaming down her cheeks in the dark, body shaking. She leaves the bedroom to stand in her dark kitchen, but Edo finds her there soon after and they cling to each other, trying to calm down. “Ask me not to go,” he murmurs into her hair, but she shakes her head against his shoulder. This is his dream and his future, she won’t let him throw it all away just for her. When they get back into bed past midnight, they stay pressed together in the dark.

She is not the only one to see him off to the airport, but Fede makes sure to pull the boys away before the final moments. Those are reserved only for Ele. He holds her close, and then he is gone, speeding away across the Atlantic.

Ele's journey home is a blur. Filo has returned and is there to support her, but Ele straightens her shoulders and dives into her textbooks. She is strong; this is something she can control.

He texts her the moment his plane touches down. She’s stayed awake to make sure he arrives safely and finally breathes a sigh of relief. Day 1, accomplished.

Edo lives in an apartment with two second years and loves it; dorm living has never appealed to him. But he only lasts two days before buying a couple of plants. He’s spent so much time with Ele that rooms now feel empty without any greenery.

He makes friends quickly, the guys idolizing his confidence and ability to have fun and the girls swooning over his European aesthetic. But Edo knows his true friends and family are in Italy. These Americans will just have to do for now.

Ele throws herself into her studies for her senior year. She wants to go into environmental and Earth sciences, with a minor in English. She is well on track to graduate near the top of her class. She keeps her friends close. Filo makes a point to spend an evening in with her every week.

Ele and Edo Skype a lot. At first, they make specific dates to update each other about the things text messages can’t convey. But then they move to video chatting as much as they can. They’ll study together, during what is Ele’s afternoon and Edo’s evening. If he’s free at lunch, he’ll keep her company as she gets ready for school in the morning. Sometimes, when they are actually talking, Ele’s gaze will wander from Edo’s face to the plants on his desk behind him. She’ll put her hands on her hips to ask if he’s watered them yet this week. He grins proudly because yes of course he has. They fit each other into their days and it’s almost like they’re together, if they don’t think about it too much.

December is when things start to get hard. Ele and Filo’s mom insists that they spend the week before Christmas in Padua. She won’t take no for an answer. Edoardo is only in Rome for 10 days before he returns to New York to spend New Years Eve in NYC with the Villa boys. Ele and Edo only have three days with each other, and the frustration bleeds into their time together. They don’t fight, but by the time he has to leave, they both feel worse than before. Nonna takes Ele to a ballet on New Year’s Day.

In mid-January, they finally get the chance to talk via Skype and they talk everything through. Their situation is hard but they’ll get through it, they promise each other that.

February is a good month, for both of them. Edo goes to parties with his uni friends, as well as several weekend road trips around New England. He goes home with his roommates to meet and stay with their parents. He gets to know his corner of America. He realizes that he likes it there. It’s not where he wants to live forever, but for four years he can defiantly make it home. Ele and Le Matte study hard, but on Eva and Federica’s insistence they also party hard. They take weekend trips to Italian universities they are considering, but they visit Milan too often for them to ignore that Eva just wants to visit Federico. Radio Osvaldo continues to grow.

In April, as Edo wades through midterm exams, Ele starts to skip their calls. At first her excuses make sense: study stress, dinner with Filo, a headache. But even when he does get her on the phone, it isn’t for long, and she seems distracted. Less herself. Then, after a week of complete silence, she calls him drunk at a party Silvia dragged her to. It’s 5am in Ithaca when Edo's phone rings and of course he panics. She doesn’t cry on the phone but sounds absolutely miserable. She says that she misses him, that she’s sorry. She repeats the words too many times before hanging up the phone. Edo immediately calls Sana who has just found Ele and promises they are on their way home. “She’s going through a lot right now.” is all Sana says before ending the call.

That afternoon, when it is morning in Rome, Edo calls Filippo, telling him he’s really worried about Ele. “It’s been hard,” Filo says, “but things are slowly getting better.” “What happened?” Edo asks. Filo says that Ele’s been a bit shaken ever since she testified and Edo goes still. Ele hadn’t told him that the courts had taken her case against Andrea to trial. She hadn’t said anything and gone to court alone (not alone alone, Le Matte and Filo were there, but Edo hadn’t been). “She didn’t tell you?” Filo, who is always on his sister’s side, is a shocked at this. He promises to text Edo updates and maybe convince Ele to call. Edo texts Ele simply, “Ti amo,” the typing bubble appears several times, but Ele doesn’t send anything. Edo sends a second text: “Sempre.” She finally sends him a heart in return.

Ele is actually handling her courtroom encounter better than Edo and Filo think. She just isn’t ready to talk about it yet. Her girls keep an eye on her, Filo throws a couple of strategic dinner parties, and after a couple weeks of peace her spine has returned to its solid steal and the fire in her eyes burns brighter than ever. The court grants Ele a longterm restraining order against Andrea and finally life moves on. But she still hasn’t talked to Edo.

The plan had always been for Ele to come to New York for Easter break (Edo had bought the plane ticket last summer), but with the tension between them Edo begins to dread she won’t come. When Filo texts him saying that Ele has left for the airport, Edo’s heart soars.

When she arrives in Ithaca and she is at his apartment for the first time (his roommates are both conveniently home with their parents), she turns to face him. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” she says. “No,” he cuts in, “I’m sorry I wasn’t there, that I didn’t realize.” They spend the rest of that day in his room, talking, making up, and finally just being together. By the time Ele succumbs to jet lag they are both alright again.

The rest of Ele’s stay they treat like an adventure. There is so much that Edo wants to show her and they explore Ithaca for hours each day, with a weekend trip to NYC as well. Edo’s university friends adore Ele and finally understand why Edo talks about her so much. They all silently wish another hot Italian would come to Cornell, but single this time.

As always, when she leaves for Rome it is difficult. But they are happy this time, too. Only 2 more months until Ele’s graduation and Edo returns home.

In mid-June, she is the first thing Edo sees when he steps into baggage claim at Fiumicino airport. She runs and jumps into his arms, right there in the center of the terminal. The world feels balanced again. They know next year will be hard again (Ele has accepted a place at the University of Greenwich in London, so they will still be long distance), but they don’t want to think about it just yet. For now, they have each other and a summer ahead. They’ll be just fine: the Atlantic has nothing on them.

Okay this ended up being longer than I expected. I had a hard time writing their conflicts and I think they’re both pretty ooc here but w/e, I just wanted to post a fun thing :)

How did it feel with just the two of you standing on stage?

Yunho: On the first day at Seoul, when we stood onstage, a tremendous amount of applause and cheering welcomed us, which made me deeply understand that 'there are people who are waiting for us. I can only continue living when I stand onstage.' These thoughts started spurting out at that moment, and I knew that I could stand up again.

Changmin: I was really really happy. But, when the time for us to perform came nearer, I started getting more and more nervous to the point where people around me could easily tell. Subconsciously, I started drinking coffee (laughs). This was the first time in my life that I felt so nervous. When the staff asked ‘Will you be okay with just the two of you?’ The staff must’ve been thinking, ‘Are these two going to be okay?’ I couldn’t understand what came over me, but I suddenly felt the internal conflict within me in full force. Compared to the external surroundings, I was mainly having an internal battle of pressure. Even as we were rehearsing, we kept saying to ourselves that it would be okay, even if some people had already lost faith in us, but as soon as I got on stage, I told myself ‘It's okay, just let yourself go’. When Yunho and I silently looked each other in the eyes, we nodded simultaneously to express ‘Let’s go!’ To this day, it is still deeply engraved in my mind. I still remember very clearly the moment when Yunho and I exchanged glances and the two of us shouted ‘Go!’ together.

Yunho: We were encouraging each other backstage, saying things like 'we need to show everyone why TVXQ is so strong!' and 'this is TVXQ. We want people to see our unique charm we have in contrast to the other artists.

Changmin: During rehearsals, we kept on telling ourselves 'it's fine, we can do it!' But honestly, I didn't know if I really believed that myself. However, when I stood on that stage, I started truly believing that 'it's fine, go do it!' Of course, there is still more work to be done in order to achieve our higher goals.

You have been constantly improving over these years, so can we expect to see a new type of charisma from you two?

Yunho: Yes! Whether it's singing or dancing, Changmin will learn from the fortes that I possess, and I will also learn from his. Just like twins, we absorb things from each other that make us continually improve.

Changmin: Up until now, although we do spend time to go to classes and record songs, I'm not 100% satisfied with it. After deciding that the two of us would start afresh together, that feeling has become even more intense. But it isn't necessarily a bad thing, because being able to sing is a joy in itself, and facing the feelings of starting music anew may allow me to change my personal opinions and views on certain things.

Yunho: I think SMT's stage can prove that. Difficulties can be overcome by not giving up. Of course, messages like 'you can do it, we're waiting for you' has been encouraging us. To repay back that love from fans, we need to return to our original beginning and start anew as rookies.

Changmin: We hope to improve through projecting the joy of singing, undergoing a change in our style and doing our very best. I've always thought that my voice went pretty well with Yunho's (laughs), we'll maintain the style TVXQ has always had whilst also bringing our fans something that belongs solely to the two of us! I can genuinely feel a sense of security. Thank you for waiting for us.

Yunho: It was very emotional. The feeling of having to just stand and watch others perform on stage, it was very painful. ‘I have to be standing there and singing too… but when will that day come?’ I thought of this a lot. And during the hiatus, TVXQ was gradually being forgotten. I once had the chance to ask a bunch of young kids, ‘Who do you like~?’ And they answered ‘Oh, I like SNSD~’ ‘Ah~ Who else?’ ‘I like Super Junior~’ ‘What about TVXQ?’ ‘Who is TVXQ?’ When they said that… ‘Ah. If we continue like this, it will be dangerous.’

With that feeling in our hearts we stood on stage at SM Town. And other singers, as well as other singers’ fans, cheered out for us.

Changmin: Tens of thousands—

Yunho: Tens of thousands, and that sound suddenly pounded strongly at my heart, along with the music. ‘Ahhh, this is it. This is the reason that I sing.’ Yes.

Q. TVXQ came to Japan in 2005. Did you set your goals while on the way? Back then, our staff and people at the agency said we’d have new experiences and difficulties in Japan. We were told we’d need to start anew in Japan. So we talked, the two of us, while watching crows and one of us suggested we take baby steps from the bottom.
