Rick Sanchez was the type of kid to pick up strays from the streets, the kind to see a cat or dog and just bring it home, he probably brought home someone's pet a couple of times too (either by accident or on purpose) because it looked cool or cute
Bro's first reaction was to open his arms for the snake because it looked cool and he would've taken it home too if the snake didn't start shooting
A few more examples to back it up would be Glootie and Harold the Garbage Goober (the crows too probably)

RICK AND MORTY S7 EP 10 SPOILERS
THIS EPISODE WAS SO GOOD! My favorite part is that we get more of a look into who Dianne was as a person.
I always thought that she was smart or was at least a lover of science like Rick was, considering I don’t think it’s likely Rick would have married someone who didn’t share his love of science.
We’ve been able to get hints before of what her personality might have been like through Ricks Garage:
Tumblr media
and Ricks Car:
Tumblr media
Both have been modeled after Diane and use her voice and both of which have always been sassy or sarcastic towards him.
We also know that Summer reminds Rick of Diane as he’s said twice before in S6 Ep1 and S7 Ep 7 and we all know what Summers personality is like lol
We’ve now gotten the best glimpse at what Diane was like and a hint of what Ricks job was before he invented portal travel:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s seems he might have met Diane
1) while he had been working for the government and she may have also been a scientist employed by them
Or 2) she had been arrested by the robot that Rick had built while working for the feds.
(Either way both options are funny)
We see that Diane went to university and received a masters degree and probably loved science like Rick did
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see how her personality is similar to his when they join a drinking contest together, but also how Diane might have been more of a “party person” than Rick was when they were in college.
(I mean this episode suggested she was arrested by a law enforcement drone Rick built)
Tumblr media
Considering how she comments on how he used to be a “lightweight” and later on tells him that “her dying made him cooler” (suggesting he didn’t used to be the drunk unhinged man that we’ve become so accustomed to seeing him as) we can assume that she was probably the unhinged one
Tumblr media
IN CONCLUSION DIANE IS A SMART AWESOME BADASS WOMAN THAT NERDY YOUNG RICK FELL HEAD OVER HEELS FOR BECAUSE HE THOUGHT SHE WAS COOL IN THIS ESSAY I WILL-

In theory i like the idea that rick is growing and developing as a person. In practice it ends up falling short though, because no one balances him out. rick is getting better while no one else is getting worse, and it causes the whole thing to end up feeling a bit stale. The biggest draw, at least for me, has always been rick and morty's shitty dynamic, but it barely exists anymore because rick has been so watered down.
The ideal solution is literally just to make morty into a bigger asshole. Essentially flipping the main characters' personalities would offer a wide variety of conflict into the show, and would also help keep it "fresh".
Instead it feels the writers are pretending that they can't possibly do anything with morty's character, that they have to keep him the same anxious idiot he was in season one. I've said this before, but it's incredibly frustrating to watch the show have no problem with expanding rick's character while struggling with keeping morty's heavily stagnated characterization consistent. Where rick has space to develop between multiple seasons, morty is constantly forced into one of two boxes (smart/stupid) depending on the episode.

Very very excited to hear u talk more about mortis metamorphosis, u truly were a beacon of light in the depravity of that fandom. I literally remember when u started posting about it and being so excited bc u have been an artist I’ve looked up to for so long!!!! Years and years fr!!!!! Anyway yeah glad you are taking that trainwreck of a story and actually making something Genuine🙏
wow thank you!!! that is truly so sweet i appreciate u sticking around <333
i also want to address this because ive been seeing discourse lately that's got me a little uneasy ... but a lot of what i already have written and want to expand on is based on canon dsmp. it will never be fully separate because the allure of the original (the fucked up shit/character dynamics being a mimicry of real life to an uncomfortable and almost predictive extent) is baked into every bit of content i would go further into detail abt, and im fully aware of that. thats neither good nor bad. it exists and im fascinated by it. im not endorsing them by working on this and anyone who believes i am is a fucking moron and i need to remind myself of this often. its something im deeply insecure about.
my retelling, or "mortis metamorphosis", is like an adaptation from an author who plucked dsmp from public domain. ive thought more about this and i think id keep tagging my work as dsmp along side mortis metamorphosis ... it would feel a bit sneaky to try and claim it all as my own when it belongs to everyone. even if i plan on putting my own spin on it.
what you all must remember is that nobody creating "ocs" out of dsmp characters are doing it out of malice. most of us are just very scared and uncomfortable with whats currently taking place, and dealing with the complicated emotions that go with still finding comfort in this story. thats all ... meow

I don't know about you all, but I genuinely believe that when Diane said, "Seems like me dying made you cooler, maybe I should die more often," it was because deep down Morty believes that and it scares him a little bit that he feels that way.
