I just finished playing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, a 2013 title where the antagonist republican senator claims he’s going to make America great again moments before you rip his stillbeating heart from his chest!
For context: I’ve never played metal gear. My buddy has nothing but good things to say for it and I’ve seen lots of good stuff. I’ve also played Bayonetta 1 all the way through.
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is a game started by Konami/Kojima, handed off to platinum games. In it you play as Raiden, a cyber ninja, facing off against soldiers and big bads alike.
Lots of modern games feel the need to juice the runtime to 30hrs. TLOU2, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War 2018, often they do this by adding optional open world segments or sidequests that pad the runtime.
MGRR was described as all killer no filler and they aren’t lying. Around 6-8hrs long this was a quality experience through and through. I shouted out loud in my own apartment at multiple points because of how fantastic they felt to play. I lost my goddam mind when you’re fighting a metal gear ray to the instrumental Rules of Nature and when you catch the mecha blade the sfx dip so the soundtrack can belt the lyrics RULES OF NATURE as you anime throw the mecha and shred it. Oh my god. Perfection.
The game’s high points are its boss fights. Lovingly crafted, each boss has something exciting going on whether it be Mistral’s enemy horde or Sundowner’s explosive armor you need to slice through. The mechanics feel fantastically overpowered in the best way, running up missile barrages to slice their armor into a thousand pieces is a blast.
I cannot say enough good things about the game’s soundtrack and use of music. Typically you fight to instrumental themes, with the lyrics bass boosting the track during emotional high points. Its huge when you hit the last phase of a boss fight and the lyrics cut in as your own health gets down to the wire. Absolutely amazing.
I also appreciate that the game has a “skill tree” or upgrade purchase menu where not everything was able to be bought in my run. Maybe you can with VR missions, but I liked that I had to choose my strengths when too many games eventually give you everything anyways.
The game’s story is Platinum Games making a Kojima game, its silly in all the right spots and serious at the right times. I was thoroughly entertained by how whole hog they go over the top with it.
I have a short list of things that frustrated me: the hammer and ape enemies were a lil too nutty damage and stunwise and two at once could easily stunlock you. The traversal sections between bosses have good moments but overall don’t work quite as well. It is from the quick time event era so there’s a number of those, while I never found them to be too invasive they aren’t always great.
None of these things were enough to put a damper on the experience for me. This is in my top 5 games easy, the Samuel boss fight is up there next to Lady Maria for me. I’m entirely enamored with this one and I highly recommend it if you enjoy the likes of Hotline Miami and Uncharted games.
Recently I played the FFVII remake. If they cut the filler and make it closer to this that game would be loads better.

I had a dream last night that I was playing TLOU2 and trying to complete a puzzle to get a trophy in order to platinum the game.
The set up was that there was a metal gate with a Clicker trapped inside of it. In front of the Clicker was a wire. Behind the gate was a pool of water.
I had to find a way to kill the Clicker before opening the gate. I couldn’t just shoot the clicker as that would both waste ammo and void the trophy for some reason.
I spent quite a while trying to figure out the solution. I eventually figured it out. I had to get close to the Clicker and let it try to attack me. Then dodge the attack and grab the wire. Then dodge again and put the wire in the gate for a sec to “charge it”. Then dodge another attack. Then grab the wire. Dodge one final attack and then throw the charged wire over the gate in such a way that its end touched both the water and gate at the same to electrocute the clicker and power the door so it opens (this took so many attempts as I kept either messing up the timing or throwing the wire the wrong way. I had to keep restarting the checkpoint from scratch).
I finally managed to accomplish it and got the trophy “Surveyor - solve the gate puzzle”. It was bronze 😭

My Theory For The Series (Season 2 TLOU2):
I consider this as foreshadowing of the past so let me explain this.
As I played through again to finally earn my Platinum Award I noticed something big.
So when The Aquarium is found in The Last Of Us Part ll looking into the past, Owen and Abby find paintings of children that used to live there on the walls. They find a castle made out of a box that Max created (the boy who used to live there with his family). Owen makes a comment to Abby, "I'd love to meet this kid". And Abby says, "I mean he's a scar. Maybe you have". And Owen replies with, "Ah Jesus I sure hope not".
If you noticed before this game play while playing as Abby now in the future on your journey with Mel, Alice, and Manny (boat repair yard) you begin to enter a building with Manny by climbing the roof. Before that while exploring the boat repair yard comments are made such as this:
Manny: "We let our guard down and they strung up an entire squad". (Referring to the Scars taking out some Wolves).
Mel: "That was in retaliation to us shooting those kids". (Referring to killing Scars).
Manny: "Okay...but those KIDS attacked our guys. What would you do?".
Mel: "I don't know? But not riddle them with bullets".
Manny says he would rather save his people as to which Mel says they are only kids. And Abby says those deaths are on them.
WHAT IF.....the kids they are referring to are actually Max and his brother who left the Aquarium to join the Scars?!
This is just my theory but does anyone else think this is possible?
Abby and Owen wouldn't have known what Max and his brother looked like. If the kids attacked the Wolves they were dealt with by the group right away with no conversation between the two groups. Do you think the Series might explore this idea?
Honestly I think that it could be a major possibility given the fact that there is a lot of rivalry between the Wolves and Scars so they could have came across one another at some point. Maybe even at this point.
Also, maybe there's a possibility they are still alive and we will meet them in the Season 2?
What are your thoughts on this?

Hey guys! I am still active on here just to let you know! I'm still working through finding motivation to start writing fics again and I'm currently getting the platinum trophy for TLOU2. I just had my covid vaccine today so my arm hurts a little but I'll still be here, also trying to avoid spoilers for RE4 Remake while I'm still playing it. I hope you haven't forgotten about me! I love you all. DM if you need someone to talk to about anything and everything, even if it's just life related. (P.S. Fang is my favourite villager and he needs to be protected at all costs <3 )

TLOU Part 1.
I just binged on TLOU Part 1 and the differences between it and the PS3&4 releases are night and day. So I guess here’s my ‘review’?
Literally just finished my first run, and I did not encounter a single glitch, hiccup, or crash. Like, 8 months ago I did 3 consecutive runs in the PS4 remaster and it was FULL of glitches and bugs that at one point I ran into invincible humans in Pittsburgh to where I had to restart the checkpoint. Happened again at Tommy's dam. The hospital segment at the end, enemies were permanently alerted at some spots no stealth on a Survivor run was a pain in the ass. Wonky ass AI. Got stuck in a corner in a house and had to restart checkpoint lol.  The graphics match TLOU2 which is a nice bonus, yeah. But I don't let graphics be the end all be all selling point. And again, the level of reworks to the controls, fist fighting, gunplay, and fixing all the bugs in the PS4 Remaster literally makes the PS5 release the BEST version of the game. I never played the multiplayer on the PS3 or 4 because I just didn't care for it. Sure, it not being in the PS5 version is a negative, but for me, I don't give a crap, personally. But for those that like the multiplayer I can see that as a deal breaker. The controls are WAY less clunky in fighting. Like, when you stealth kill a human but get spotted, Joel speeds up what he's doing and breaks necks faster so you can GTFO fast. While in the OG & PS4 versions, you just sit there getting shot tf up while you strangle someone. Just that alone makes the PS5 version an absolute pleasure to play. The arrows seem to break much more often but that adds some extra difficulty to it. I turned off the haptic feedback because I'm paranoid about it wearing about the triggers faster since I baby my electronics. It's a nice little feature but plastic wears out the harder & more often you use it, so I turned off the feedback triggers. Not having a dodge mechanic like TLOU2 does kinda suck, but I've played TLOU1 so many times I don't need to dodge. Would have been nice, but I can live without it, personally. My PS5 was a bundle deal and had $175 in PSN bucks, so I preordered TLOU1 because *gasp!* I like the games! Woah! But yeah, $70 price tag yadda yadda yadda we’ve all heard everyone talk about it. But wait for a sale (which basically what I do with everything these days). imo, I like Part 1 and Part 2 equally. Gonna platinum Part 1 and jump back into TLOU2 and finish that Survivor run I started a month or two ago. When I play one of the games, it makes me wanna replay the other because they're damn good games. Don’t like em? Then don’t buy em. But yeah, 10/10. Gonna chip away for the plat trophy sometime. I honestly like how Parts 1 and 2 are graphically matching. But anyways, Splatoon 3 is calling my name lol.
