Reminder that hypermobility is not just being a bit more flexible than normal and that if you use someone "just" being hypermobile as a reason to claim they don't count as chronically ill/physically disabled you're an uneducated ableist POS! :)
Did you know that if someone is hypermobile, it actually LIMITS their mobility in some ways? Did you know it frequently causes chronic pain? Did you know that hypermobile people are both more likely to dislocate joints than non-hypermobile people AND are less likely to seek professional medical care when it happens? Did you know that some hypermobile people have to use mobility aids because of their hypermobility? Actually, did you even know that hypermobile people can also be extremely inflexible? Turns out that when your muscles are having to constantly over-compensate to prevent your joints from popping out, they tend to get a bit tense and uncooperative!
Hypermobility is a physical disability and can be a severely limiting one, and it is SHITTY to imply that people with it are just using it as an easy way to claim a "physical disability card". If I catch you saying this shit IRL, I'm gonna hit you with my forearm crutches that I use so my hips don't dislocate in public.

What was it like for you starting out as a beginner artist? How did you improve?
I mostly just incessantly practiced, experimented, and observed a lot for as long as I can remember. I grew up on a lot of videos going over tips and techniques for beginner artists and mostly just observed their processes and would try to bring them into my art. Othertimes I would just constantly experiment with my artstyle (what if I made the shoulders more defined, what if I changed the size of how I draw eyes, what if tried drawing different body types, what if I tried a pose with a lot more foreshortening etc etc). I tried to push myself a bit further everytime like maybe spending more time on the overall piece, adding backgrounds, drawing multiple people interacting. Drawing challenges also helped a lot I think since they pushed me out of my comfort zone or forced me to approach my art in different way than what I was used to. Things like “draw something using only one line and not lifting your pen from the paper”, or “create a bunch of random shapes using a colored marker and then turn them into characters/objects”, or even just dtiys challenges were great for this. A lot of the drawings I made from these didn’t really end up being things I was super proud of after finishing them, but thats fine since I still learned a lot and they still helped with improving. A lot of it was honestly just not being afraid to draw something I might not be happy with later in the name of getting that practice in and trying new things all the time.
I hope this is helpful, but I’m not too sure so I’m sorry if it isn’t, this is the best way I could think of summarizing it!

"i'll tell him soon", amaro says and then it didn't get out for another 3 years lol. get hot pink jjba oc blasted
in honour of @toxic-ship-tournament here's some silly backstory to amaro and calamari, ft their friend violino (@sboopie's oc!)
@hottopicabbacchio also wrote a lil blurb for this under the cut!!! please read it i'm going insane <3 smile
“So what do you want?”
“I want you to tell Mari what you did.”
Amaro attempted to look unphased, crossing his arms and shrugging as he stared at Violino. He knew exactly what they meant. “What would be the point?”
Violino shot him a look as she stepped around the mannequin. “The point would be that they would know. Especially is this is going to just be another phase for y-”
“Have you seen any of the others last this long?” Amaro huffed out a breath. “It’s already been 4 months, if I wanted to drop him I already would have.”
Amaro was trying to push down the thoughts of when he had been using his stand on Calamari. He did feel bad for it, he knew she wasn’t even needed. For all of his yearning for something real he’d gotten too used to using his stand anyway, he can’t even use her on half the guys he passes in the street anymore. It wasn’t until after Poplar St revealed herself to him and he noticed she had all her swords on her while Calamari slept that he even realized he had stopped using her. There wasn’t a pinpoint last moment he could recall, but there was a very definitive moment for him when he knew he had fallen for Calamari - the same way Calamari had for him since the start.
Calamari should know. Amaro just… Needs to find the right time.
He looked up at the sound of a sigh and heels clicking on the ground as Violino stepped fully out of his workspace. She had a hand on her hip and was fixing him with a very pointed look. “Listen. You’ve had your little hookups, one night stands, phases, whatever you want to call them all - people know. I’m sure Calamari knows about them too but what he doesn’t know is that you used your stand on them, and that’s not fair.” Violino stopped walking once they were right in front of Amaro. “I don’t care what you were doing before, that’s your issue. But this time has gone on too long.”
Amaro clenched his jaw and stared her down. “And who are you to tell me how I should feel now? You don’t think there’s a reason they’ve lasted so long?” Amaro felt sick to his stomach about the way he was talking about them. He sighed and uncrossed his arms, running a hand through his hair. “I… I don’t need anybody else telling me when I should do this.”
“Then I’ll do it.”
Amaro’s eyes widened and he dropped his arms to his sides. “You wouldn’t.”
Violino took another step closer and shoved his finger into his face. They were serious. “I would. If you’re not going to tell them then I will. He needs to know.”
Before they had a chance to say another word, Amaro grabbed Violino’s face and pulled him closer. His nails were digging a bit into her cheeks a bit and he pulled them so close that their noses were practically touching. Amaro was trying to keep his breathing steady.
"Violino,” His voice was low. “Listen to me. Don’t fucking ruin this for me, I have it under control, okay?” Amaro could see the doubt in her eyes. She tried pulling back but Amaro held fast. “I swear I’ll tell him soon. Don’t get involved, just let me handle it.”
Violino hummed, narrowing their eyes. She brought a hand up to rest on his elbow and Amaro allowed them to lean back a bit but didn’t let go quite yet. “Give me a reason why I shouldn’t go out and tell them right now.”
Amaro sighed and finally let go of Violino to allow her to stand up straight. It was easier to hide his shaking that way anyway. “Because I already stopped using my stand a month ago and I fucking love him?” That was probably the first time he had admitted that outloud.
“Great,” Violino didn't seem swayed. “Give me another.”
Amaro shook his head and looked at Violino with desperation. “… Please?” He felt all the fight leave his body. “Vio, it has to be me who tells him. I told you I had it handled, I’m just… I’m trying to find the right time. I’ve never had to do this before.”
Violino’s expression softened a bit, but she still didn’t seem convinced. “And when will the right time be?”
"Soon, I promise, okay? I’m still trying to understand what even happened myself, I don’t even know when exactly I stopped using Poplar St, it just kinda happened. I know Mari needs to know, I know he’s going to be mad at me, I know that it’s not fair. But I also know that I want to stay with him for as long as I can.” He took a shaky breath in, held it for a second, then let it out. “So… Please. Let me do this myself.”
Violino chewed on his lip for a second, giving a more pitying look at Amaro before closing her eyes and sighing. “Fine. Fine. I’ll tell Ambrose to keep quiet as well. Just don’t come crying if this backfires.”
Amaro simply nodded. “Thank you, Vio.”

probably my favorite little thing in witch from mercury that references past gundam (that isn't particularly obvious) is the duelist's creed
"victory is not decided by mobile suit performance alone, or the skill of the pilot alone. the result is the only truth"
this is of course a reference to the first thing to trigger an amuro BSOD in 0079- ramba ral telling him that he only won because of the performance of his mobile suit, instead of his skill as a pilot. (shortly after this, ramba ral ends up dying, so it's not like he can see amuro grow or anything.) obviously him outspeeding the gundam's response time later in the show decisively refutes this, but...
g-witch is quite notably about pilots and mobile suits and how specifically a pilot and a mobile suit work together for the best results. different pilots can do vastly different things, even in the same (or very similar) suits; just look at guel and lauda in their dilanzas, or chuchu vs. pretty much anyone else in a demi trainer.
of course, aerial and suletta are the epitome of this "horse and rider as one" type of feeling, which makes their separation this episode so interesting. even if aerial weren't, well, suletta's actual sister, they're the best matched mobile suit and pilot we've seen in terms of capabilities; nothing about the suit holds suletta back, and nothing about suletta's piloting skill holds aerial back. contrast the darilbalde's AI, or the entire GUND format killing its pilots, vs. how even with no permet functions whatsoever suletta knows exactly how to pilot aerial to the best of her capabilities.
this is what makes their separation so interesting, besides the character drama; they're basically the only mobile suit/pilot combo where one isn't holding the other back in some way we've seen in this show, so them being separated is a soft refutation (for a little bit) of one of its themes- the interface between humans and technology. anyway watch mobile suit gundam 0079 even if you started with mercury. it's got a surprisingly similar tone, and despite the old animation still looks very good and maintains a solid plot.
