Underwater was a very fun film. Checked a lot of my horror movie boxes:
Ocean (it can kill you: drowning, etc.)
Deep ocean (it can kill you in even more ways: implosion, etc.)
Neat intro with the news clippings, diagrams, and classified documents
Waking something in the deep
Find a scary thing and asking if that's a baby
An abandoned research station (with bonus angsty shower and a locker full of character backstory and a possible conspiracy theory map)
It had some downsides, like being too dark (we couldn't even see what the characters were able to see in the dark), one instance where buoyancy was spelled wrong on screen (it just bugged me), and the voiceover bits were strange. Also had some common horror issues, like the black guy dying first. But overall, it deserves better than its Rotten Tomatoes score.
Also, Kristen Stewart.

Captain Lucien's reaction to his daughter Allie's age makes me wonder if he had an encounter with one monster during his time working on the Shepherd Station.
He saw something, but didn't go completely mad. But his sense of time and continuity got fucked up, and now he can't remember if his daughter is still a teenager or a young woman in her late twenties.
He may have been one of the people who reported the weird instances around Tian industries drilling compounds and got muzzled by the corporation.
He stays in their orbit because he doesn't want anyone under his command to end up like he did, because "that's what captain's do".

The good: Kristen Stewart with a buzz cut
The bad: Literally everything else

Just watched Underwater (2020) and I'm astounded and enraged at the ending. TIAN drilling company sent another group of people back down after all that???
That's too real and exactly how I'd imagine a corporation to believe it's employees and researchers as expendable even after a catastrophy of epic proportions caused by otherworldly creatures

HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE JOHN GALLAGHER JR. WAS IN UNDERWATER (2020)?
HE’S THE FUCKING. THE GUY. THE MAN FROM HUSH (2016).
No wonder I didn’t recognize him he plays like a totally normal likeable dude in Underwater and not like an absolute batshit serial killer but still...
I am shaken.

one thing about me, I'm a big fan of the movie "underwater (2020)" with kristen stewart and it pisses me off whenever I remember that it was neglected so it never got the attention it deserved and now I'm never getting a sequel or prequel or whatever, it's so underrated it pains me greatly
