Hey! I was summoned by the tags you put under my post bc I also very much enjoy discussing ethics. I might make this into its own post so I'll try to not elaborate too much...

I think that I can't just decide for everyone if the difference between doing good for the sake of goodness or in order to save oneself matters, but for me, in most cases, including Dazai's case, it doesn't.

I like to believe that morality is a choice one can decide to make, and I don't think it's fair to take that away from them, regardless on how they might feel on the inside. It's a wonderful thing to act morally because it's your "natural" tendency, but I think people also have the right to do so deliberately, for a reason that they choose, without their choice being minimised. They're two different processes for sure, but if the outcome is good, then the action is a good action, and, if being moral is a choice, then I don't think I have the right to decide that only one intention or emotion that will lead there is good enough.

Also, doing good for your own sake and for the sake of others are mutually exclusive at all. One feeds the other, and if we were to put every person's actions under such scrutiny, we would ultimately run in circles.

So, for people outside the story, I would say that the debate does matter, but for the sake of the people involved, it doesn't, because the outcome is the same, especially since Dazai is so opaque as a character, and what he really feels about the things he does is so hard to read, so at the end of the day all most of them experience is his actions.

The consequences of one's actions, how much good they produced, are telling of it being morally right or wrong. I don't necessarily agree, but that's definitely a valid way to see it!!! I personally believe one's intentions are the most relevant aspect to take into account when judging whether and action is ethically rightful or not. Note that that is judging the moral of the action itself, and not giving a judgement on the person; people can have a million reasons to act selfishly, and in my very “humans are always inherently good” worldview more often than not it's caused by society rather than an actual preference to not be altruistic. But that doesn't change the fact that even a good action, if it isn't moved by good intentions, won't ever be passable of being morally right to me. Besides, then, wouldn't the other way round work to? Someone well intentioned, who's however incompetent, and ends up with their actions putting more bad in the world– as long as they're acting with a true desire to help others for the sake of it, their actions can't be considered morally wrong for me.

To clarify, with reference to your ask; I don't think people who do something for selfish reasons, and end up doing good, are morally rightful; but if they decide to do good, well, isn't that a well-intentioned aim itself? Then I think they stop being selfish to the extension that they consciously decide they're going to do good. That's not morally reprinandable at all.

Now, regarding Dazai... Honestly, I don't think Dazai is a good person. Because he never meant to do good for the sake of it. But now, the thing is, I don't think anyone in bsd is meant to be interpreted as good or evil– nobody, not Atsushi, not Mori, no one. When it comes to bsd– I do think bsd expresses a more or less nihilist worldview. And I know pretty much everyone else disagrees with me on this, I know, I'm sorry. But I do think there lies an undergoing message that good and bad are ultimately the same, and equally meaningless– it's there in Oda saying “Neither good nor evil mean much to you”, it's there in the way it makes you root for mafiosi like they were the good guys, it's there in the way Dazai never even considered to make amends for the bad things he's done (because they were never bad to begin with, because good and bad mean nothing anyway), it's there in the way it constantly shows good people doing bad and bad people doing good in a way that basically equalises them. To me there's really no point in discussing whether Dazai is good, because he is most evidently not, but that's only because he was never meant to be interpreted as such to begin with. Please refer to this post for further details; it's not surprising at all that Dazai switching over to the “good side” didn't come with a radical change of heart, and that he basically stayed the same, because how could he become good when that's no different than being evil, and those both mean nothing anyway?

And I know most people see bsd's core theme as finding a reason to live, and maybe it is, but even then I think that wouldn't be by denying its nihilism, but rather accepting it and finding a reason to live in spite of it: to me all of bsd really sums up in “that, at least, is a little more beautiful”.

While I can understand some criticisms that I have seen of the magic system featured in Harry Potter....I still kind of feel like it has a better magic system than the Owl House does.

The Owl Houses magic system just seems too loose and simple to me. Harry Potter's can be like that sometimes but for the most part it has established rules and limits to how magic works and I feel like I can understand it well. Plus, when we're explained mechanics behind certain spells, it shows that the magic IS more complicated than just waving a wand and saying a funny word. The Owl House's never has the same complexity to it.

Once he’s settled, you drop your head to his shoulder, your heart hammering in your chest.

“Holy fucking shit.” He whispers through his suppressed breathing.

You sigh. That was beyond intense. Your mind is pure mush at this point, and you know you won’t be able to stand on your own if he tries to put you down.

As if reading your mind, he turns you so his back is against the wall and slides downward, taking you with him so you’re straddling his lap on the floor. Your face is planted on his chest, and you can still feel him pulsing inside you.

You’re totally ruined by him. Your eyes start to close and mildly aware that you were still stuck to his body.

“You okay, baby?” he says softly as he strokes your back with both hands.

Your eyes open and your brain lurches forward again. “M’fine.” That fuck drained all of your energy but you were completely satiated.

“Can you stand?” He chuckles.

“Can you?” You giggle weakly as you throw the question back to him.

“...Just need a minute.”

Once he gets his bearings he says, “You have the most unusual kinks, you know that?”

You laugh heartily then shush him. “I like what I like!”

You could very well pass out on the floor by the doorway, but you knew that you had to get cleaned up and be in bed soon. Besides, Namjoon had to be up early the next day to fulfill his best man duties.

Namjoon…in a tuxedo. You feel another flutter in the pit of your belly.

Absently, you run your fingers behind his head and against his fade once more.

“So…do you think that after you guys take pictures in your tuxes, we can have a little time before the ceremony?” You give him a sly, knowing smile.

A low, sexy laugh rumbles within him at your request. “Don’t worry. I'll make time.”

🔥 Kumatora!

Kumatora is so much deeper than she gets credit for. I've made a bunch of analysis posts on her before, apologies to folks who've read all those already, but I'll do a lightning round here. She is the youngest survivor of an apocalypse she'll never remember. She grew up raised amongst gender-nonconforming folks, then had feminine gender conformity suddenly thrust upon her - and hated every second of it. She was given a fabricated "princess" legacy, which she seems to feel she never lived up to anyways. She's both very tough and surprisingly sensitive - the former might even be a front to conceal the latter. She [ definitely ] knew the Masked Man was Claus, and chose not to say anything. She fights on knowing she's gonna lose her whole family, and that she's a part of making it happen. She's got no time to grieve, and she damn well knows it, in stark contrast to Lucas' relationship with loss. M3's writing follows up on very few of these threads, sure. But like! Man, there is so much going on with her!! The amount of stuff that goes unnoticed & unexplored with Kumatora (by both the game itself & the fandom) makes me go hog wild. Fascinating beautiful complex and excellent character. One of the very best in the series.

Bonus: She is definitely a teenager. Idk if this is an unpopular take or not, but I do see a lotta folks assume she's in her 20s during the game. Kid's sprite grows taller after the timeskip, other characters treat her like she's young, she acts like it too. There is no doubt in my mind she's like 16, 18 at the oldest. So when folks portray her as a full-fledged adult within the game's timeframe I'm always like ?? huhhh

First impression

Once again tbh my impression of her was formed from Fandom Osmosis before I actually encountered her. In this case: The Best Take on a Catgirl Ever

Yeah hi this ask is what prompted me to write this post about my thoughts on Izutsumi's role in the story

Anyway in addition to that... I love her. I really appreciate how her trauma and coping mechanisms are handled, and I adore the Cat of it all. Some of my favorite panels are just the ones where Izutsumi is in the background doing cat things. She's got so much spirit and she grows so much and she's got so much future ahead of her... ahh... Izutsumi...

Favorite moment

I was going to say the entirety of the succubus fight, especially the two hearts bit. And that probably IS my favorite moment, but I'm going to highlight this detail instead bc it's easy to miss and so beloved:

She wipes their faces clean and gets her kitty hairs all over them....

Idea for a story

Hmmm... I mean really any kind of post-canon exploration of her would be so good. There are already at least a couple of good oneshots I've seen doing that, but honestly I'd love something LONG and just... about her figuring herself out. How she decides where to fit in, what she does with her relationships, what she does with her freedom.

I guess really what I'm thinking of is something that captures the "healing isn't linear" experience of trying to move on from as much trauma grief and isolation as Izutsumi has experienced. I think a story where she has room to backslide and move forward and fail and apologize and forgive herself and forgive the people around her... those ups and downs would be cool to see played out in full.

Okay this is actually hard because on the surface level it's definitely of course her and Marcille. BUT... I have also been really enjoying revisiting tidbits of her and Senshi (especially the way he makes her food the chapter when she joins...), and I want to explore more of her and Laios too...

I'll still just stick with her and Marcille though, because they are very sweet and fun and good.

Favorite headcanon

I can't track it down right now, but there is a bonus comic doodle that's like "what was everyone doing at 13?" and Izutsumi's response is like. Pshh?? 13? That was four years ago how am I supposed to remember" and like. My girl has SO many trauma repressed memory issues. [Izutsumi voice] what to do mean you guys have clear memories before 15.

GET TO KNOW THE MUN. respond to the prompts out of character !

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? oh, where do i even begin? well, i suppose i should start with how long sw has been in my life. ANH was the first movie my mother ever saw when she visited the USA; she saw it with my grandmother ( and subsequently developed a massive crush on harrison, so indiana jones became a huge part of my childhood too lol ). for this reason, my mother introduced my brother and I to sw when we were actual babies. then, when the prequels came out, it’s all me and my brother consumed. from the movies themselves to the original clone wars cartoon to the PS2 games to the novels/book series. we watched it on a tiny portable player for every trip, and every time my relatives needed us to go away to let the adults talk lol. it also helped our comprehension of english so much. i can’t recall a time in which sw hasn’t been present in my life! before i joined the tumblr swrpc, i kept to myself in the prequels community, wrote fanfic, and rped anakin on skype. he’s always been a character that hit a little too close to home in one too many ways. the main parallel i have with him (that doesn’t relate to his mental issues haha) is his love/devotion/attachment to his mother. it’s difficult for me to explain without getting into the aspects of my culture (孝順 / filial piety), but in short, i am cantonese; if my mother asked me for my thumb tomorrow, i would give her my arm today. anakin’s love for his mother, his determination to free her from slavery at an early age, was very touching. EPII has been memed to oblivion, yes, but the pain i feel when anakin doesn’t get to hear his mother tell him she loves him one last time before she dies, and knowing that it haunts him for the rest of his life (eu), makes me want to throw myself out a window lmao i have an extremely close relationship with my parents; this sort of pain is absolutely gutting for someone like me. anyway, when i joined the tumblr swrpc, writing han solo was never the plan. i originally wanted to write luke but ended up changing my mind at the last second. I’d written well over a dozen fics with han at that point, but was nowhere near confident, so i thought of it as more of an experiment. guess that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, because if you really think about it, since the day i started writing him in fics, he hasn’t stopped butting into my brain. in fact, he’s been harassing me ever since—to the point that i even switched from writing luke to him… lol given my upbringing and my mother’s love for him, han has always been my childhood hero, as well as my brother’s. our dad was our han solo. the nostalgic and familial associations run so deep, it’s difficult to articulate. we share many traits, right down to his universally agreed-upon zodiac sign (sagittarius); i know han solo like the back of my hand—and it’s probably because i wanted to be just like him when i grew up.

is there anything you don’t like to write? character death. if i have to say another, it’s when people conflate harrison with the character he plays and then decides to address that in a thread. harrison was a ladies man back in the 80s, and that’s fine, but that doesn’t mean the same for han. i hate seeing the conflation between the two. not sure if this happens as often anymore, but there was a time when fics/threads/even han rpers would lean into it, by default, thus totally destroying his character in my eyes. i mean, write it as a storyline, that’s cool and fine, but infidelity has never been inherently part of his character. i will die on this fucking hill.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? most unpopular opinion ever: action sequences. critical situations, fast paced action, thriller scenes featuring immediate, life-threatening circumstances. i love writing that which exhibits a sense of urgency and tension, with sprinklings of emotional depth and contemplative introspective moments. scenes with internal conflict combined with aforementioned external events. even evading enemy forces, sustaining minor/major injuries, dressing wounds. dunno why those are always the most fun to me. aside from that? romance/romantic angst. i’ve had many writing partners over the years, and each one thought they could outdo me in writing romantic angst. sometimes, the psychosomatic pain of heartbreak isn’t far from feeling like you’ve lost a limb in battle.

how do you come up with headcanons? by being the most annoying, meticulous person ever. i’m extremely detail oriented; when i see incongruities in my own work, i perish. so, when i come up with headcanons, i have to consider all factors that may affect the outcome of whatever question i’ve posed in my mind and feel the need to justify my choices, for whatever reason, by tying it back to XYZ. my headcanons must align with my muse’s personality, their environment from childhood to adulthood, their current circumstances, and if it’s an AU, how it mirrors canon events. canon/eu is everything imo, because they are their own choices; it’s what shaped them into the character we know them as. ofc, this is my process and opinion, so make of that what you will.

do you write in silence or do you play music? no music, no tv. sometimes people talking is too much for me. i have adhd and my medication only helps so much. i will absolutely start writing down the conversation or lyrics playing in the background lol

do you plan your replies or wing them? plotting vs planning replies is different to me. plotting gives me a foundation, but it can’t be too confining. to plan a reply is to block out each moment. if you trap me, i will always deviate; so i wing everything, even when i have a foundation.

do you enjoy shipping? yes, absolutely! i’m not sure why people tend to assume otherwise, but i’m more open to it than people think. i’ve never cared about who you write, if they’re in the sw franchise, or even what era of sw etc etc never given a shit about what people think; if our muses click, they click. honestly, some of the best ships i’ve had with han, as in the most enjoyable and enlightening of his character, have been ‘crack ships’.

Today's request is for @makeyourpeacenow! The prompt was 'That's an Unpopular Opinion...'

Cere turns a documentary on. The Ten Most Beautiful Worlds in the Empire. Cal rolls his eyes at the title and grudgingly watches it. BD sits with him, careful not to knock over his mug of caf. Greez glances up every so often while he’s making dinner. They’ve already missed most of the episode as the narrator is currently finishing up describing the beauty and wonder of Coruscant, which apparently came in at number two.

“Coruscant?” Greez scoffs. “It’s a city. One big, giant city. What’s beautiful about that? I mean, aside from all the neon, that’s pretty neat. And I guess the sunsets aren’t bad. I do like that they have a weather control system in place. And so maybe the architecture is unique…” He gives his stew a stir with his good spoon. “And you can find a lot of fun the deeper you go into the undercity…”

“So, what you’re saying is it is one of the top ten most beautiful worlds?” Cal says, reaching for his caf.

“Fine, fine, that’s exactly what I’m saying! Not sure I’d rate it as high as number two though. That smells like propaganda to me.”

“Beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, Greez,” Cal says.

“Hey, less philosophy outta you, kid!”

Cere hushes them. “Let’s find out what’s number one.”

BD beeps his agreement, zooming in to see better. Cal leans back, hands pressed to his mug. “My credits are on Alderaan. All those mountains. Amazing.”

“Kid, you don’t have any credits,” Greez calls from the galley.

“I do. They’re just hidden in my apartment on Bracca.” Cal puts on his most innocent smile. “Wanna go back and get ‘em?”

“No, thank you,” Greez says.

BD says he’d love to go to Bracca and scan everything he could set his photoreceptors on.

“We’d be there forever,” Cal says wistfully.

“Absolutely not!” Greez snaps.

“Don’t worry,” Cal says. He sips his caf. “We’re never going back.”

The documentary finally reveals the most beautiful place in the Empire.

“Naboo?” Greez scoffs. “Naboo’s not even that beautiful though.”

Cal stares at Greez. “That’s an unpopular opinion. Everyone says Naboo’s basically the most beautiful planet in the entire galaxy.”

“Then ‘everyone’ is wrong,” Greez fires back.

“No, you’re wrong. It is the most beautiful world,” Cere says. “I visited a lot of worlds when I was a Seeker, and I never found anywhere like Naboo. The lakes are stunning, like something out of a fairy tale. And the air is so fresh.” She sighs. “I’d love to go back.”

BD says he visited briefly with Master Cordova to undertake research in the world’s Royal Library. BD got lost following a library mouse, only to be discovered by an unimpressed guard who had carried him back to Master Cordova.

“I never got to go,” Cal says. “Saw lots of holos about it though. I wanted to see the Queen’s Palace.”

“Sure, that all sounds great, but tell me this: how beautiful can a planet really be if it’s the birthplace of the Emperor?” Greez shoots back. Cal, Cere and BD all stare at him. “Ah, see? You can’t answer that!”

“Because that’s not… it’s…” Cal stares at Cere, looking for help.

“It’s like saying nothing good come from Bracca because it’s full of scrap,” Cere says. BD whoops in agreement. “There’s nothing inherently wrong about Naboo simply because the Emperor came from there. The two facts are not linked at all.”

Greez keeps stirring his stew. “All I’m saying is Naboo puts up a good appearance for a world that inflicted Emperor Palpatine on us all. The people that voted that bastard in as a senator all those years ago have a lot to answer for.”

“How’s it putting up an appearance if its forests, rivers and lakes that are beautiful?” Cal asks, waving a hand at the screen.

“Oh, like they can’t fake things like that,” Greez says. “Coruscant’s more beautiful than some river! At least they’re honest about how constructed it all is.” He tests his stew and immediately reaches for the salt. “And has everyone noticed how much that place is thriving while others fall to pieces? That’s blatant favouritism.”

“I feel like that’s also a separate problem,” Cal says. “Naboo is beautiful. I wish I could see if for myself.”

“Don’t buy into the propaganda, kid,” Greez says. “I’m tellin’ ya, Naboo’s overrated because someone didn’t want to lose their life by upsetting the Emperor if they suggested somewhere else.”

Cal looks to Cere who shakes her head.

“Alright Greez,” Cal says. “What is the best world in the Empire?”

Greez draws breath.

“And you can’t say Lateron!”

Cere and BD chuckle.

“That’s not what I was gonna say!” Greez protests.

Cere coughs.

“I wasn’t! I was gonna say, er, uh… Dac! Dac is beautiful. Cities on Dac are on top of the sea! That’s incredible.”

“Naboo has underwater cities,” Cere says, earning a giggle from BD.

“So? Who cares! Dac’s cities are huge and sprawling and floating on the ocean. Dac wins!”

Cal gives this a moment of consideration. “Nah. Naboo’s more varied. Naboo’s the best.”

“I agree,” Cere says.

BD just wants to go everywhere.

“We’ll try,” Cal says, sipping his caf.

Greez glares at Cere. “I thought Jedi were supposed to be peacekeepers. You can’t just agree with Cal like that! I am not at peace over here!”

“Dac is certainly unique and impressive,” Cere adds. She smiles at Greez. “Better?”

Cal snorts caf out his nose. BD squawks in disbelief that Humans are capable of such a thing. “Ow,” Cal moans. “That’s really hot!”

Smug, Greez nods. “Better.”

Warning for Unpopular Opinion:

I kinda hate Primis Richtofen

As a character, he's fantastic. But if I were to ever cross paths with him, he would be on the receiving end of at least 28 stab wounds.

Strap in for another Long Fucking Textpost.

I have three main gripes with the guy.

1. How he treats Victis/The Rest of Primis

Richtofen manipulates Victis into doing his dirty work, actively putting their lives in danger by siccing Undead Ultimis Richtofen on them, and then puts them on ice in a parallel to his Ultimis self doing the same thing to his teammates. Not to mention Victis is frozen in a HELL POCKET DIMENSION. And EVEN THEN, he’s not even the one to wake them up; it’s Ultimis Richtofen, likely prompted by Primis Nikolai.

As for how he treats his team, holy shit. He deceives them the entire cycle. Sure, he didn’t technically lie to them, but omission of information is just as bad. The other three had no idea what they were walking into. They didn’t expect to have to kill themselves. And that’s the fucking thing. They didn’t sign up for this. Richtofen clearly never asked if the other three wanted to live in Agartha with him. Richtofen never considered that they have lives of their own, outside of the cycle. Richtofen considered his own goals above the lives of his team. In ZnS one of his opening lines is “Do you trust me, [whichever of the three he is talking to]?”, to which both Dempsey and Takeo respond that they feel like they have no choice but to and Nikolai who basically says no. And yet, RIchtofen keeps charging ahead, doing “what he has to”. Sure, he ensured that they didn’t get wiped from existence, nevermind the fact that they wouldn’t have even been in danger of that without Richtofen leading them there. Instead, Richtofen leads them in a fucking circle. They’re going to do the same song and dance, forever. Now, no matter how much personal beef I have with BO4’s writing, it’s implied that the only way peace could ever be achieved is through the Motherfuckers’ deaths. Accepting his own death is something Richtofen could never do, we even see it happen. When he dies in Blood, it’s not graceful. Rather than subject himself to death, he instead has everyone go through something arguably worse, a never-ending loop of suicide by proxy. What the actual fuck.

2. Dimensional collapse

Richtofen lets Dimension 63 (Morg City [SoE]) get eaten by Apothicons. To give him some credit, there’s probably not a lot he could’ve done by himself. Apothicons are known for gobbling down dimensions like rednecks at a pie eating contest. But also. There was Keeper intervention. Maybe let the Keeper use the Incredibly Powerful, yet Loosely Defined MacGuffin #52 to save the dimension before swooping in, stealing the Key, and then dipping? I don’t know man, the general lack of remorse in his actions, the whole “I have a universe to set right” line before dooming the entire place just rubs me the wrong way.

3. General Assholery

Richtofen is a bit of an arrogant prick. The apparent reason the others can’t peek at the Big Book of Plot Convenience is because they’re too stupid. He also refuses to answer any of their questions. No wonder the other three don’t trust him, what with his complete and utter lack of transparency and his compulsive need to beat around every goddamn bush in the Forest of Equivocation.

On a slightly different note, there’s one quote of his that stood out to me. It’s a start of session conversation with Takeo.

Takeo: “I fear that denying Dempsey the chance to better understand himself may have… consequences.”

Richtofen: “Even had he been conscious before his death, I do not believe that Dempsey had any… great knowledge to impart.”

What the hell. My Brother in CoD, you made him that way. An alternate you literally experimented on and tortured him and then froze him taking away all autonomy from him. Not only that, you selected that dimension. You chose that specific Dempsey. If you wanted a "smart” Dempsey, then literally go anywhere else and murder him instead. Holy fucking shit. And Primis Dempsey is also there. Mourning himself. And you’re out here insulting a dead man that you murdered behind his back. Richtofen did murder him; Dempsey was coerced into doing it. Even fucking worse, is that Dempsey confesses to Nikolai that he’s starting to trust Richtofen. The one thing Richtofen wants most and he doesn’t deserve it.

However, the actual worst part is that nothing comes from Dempsey not being able to properly meet with his other self. Dempsey pulls himself together by himself, which is very admirable, but does have the unfortunate outcome of confirming Richtofen’s position. There were no ramifications. That Dempsey was simply an idiot who had nothing of worth to contribute, other than his death.

PART 4: END OF POST WHERE I SAY MORE RANDOM BULLSHIT IN A SLIGHTLY INCREASED INCOHERENT WAY AS A MOCKERY OF A CONCLUSION

Ok now to preface this I’m not attacking anybody who interprets Primis Richtofen differently. He's a fictional character and other people viewing art in a different way than me will not cramp my style.

I do think that he genuinely loved his friends and wanted the best for all of them. The way he goes about it is just one of the worst ways possible. Comedically terrible, falling on his face, fucking Looney Tunes-ing it up.

Simultaneously, however, I think at his core, Richtofen is a selfish character. And that’s shown in both version’s actions. Ultimis is pretty blatant in his egoistic pursuits. I spent the entire post pretty much draggin Primis in the mud, so I’m not going to repeat myself.

To end this: I hate him so much I want to rip him to pieces. But I also really like him as a character, so I would sitch him back together. And then his insufferable face would send me into an irrepressible rage and I’d shred him again. Rinse and repeat.
