logan / the codebreaker

head - his hair is black with a few dark blue streaks in the bangs, of which hang just above his eyes. he doesn't actually wear glasses when he's in costume. his "mask" isn't completely a mask, but rather light blue neon lines that are in a circuitry pattern curling around his eyes and down his cheeks. he also has a holographic projected head-up display in that same neon blue, a rectangular screen that projects in front of his eyes like a visor and allows him to access the technology and information from it. he can look at anything on the internet, hack into any piece of technology he sees, read vital signs of others, etc. (think like iron man, but without the big clunky suit). his irises themselves are a milky, very light glittery pastel blue that fades into the white of his eyes rather than having a set ring around the iris, and instead of proper pupils, they mimic a dark blue power button. he also has those neon circuitry lines extending down his neck.

torso - he wears a long, white coat similar to that of what a scientist would wear. the inside of the coat has circuitry (in that same neon blue) going all up the inside, glowing. the collar of the coat is lined with a sparkling dark blue. underneath the coat he wears a black button up tucked into his pants. in the shirt pocket is two innocuous-looking pens that actually shoot sleeping darts, courtesy of patton's handiwork.

legs - his pants are slim black slacks that are tight enough to come in at the ankle, that have a couple of those circuit lines coming all the way up the outer sides. there are also white sparkling bits scattered through it that almost look like stars.

feet - although he's almost always floating with his telekinesis and he doesn't actually need fancy shoes, he still has some anyway. they're boots technically, and they come up a little over halfway to his knee. they're mainly white with neon blue accents, both in the circuit lines and in portions that are inset to the boot, which glow the same colour. the boot itself looks like a plastic or metallic material, with an intimidating heel and coming to a slightly rounded point at the toes.

other - when he's using his telekinesis (so basically Always), his whole body glows faintly blue in a ring around himself. whenever he's accessing technology through his heads-up display/visor, his power button pupils "turn on" and glow.

roman / the prince

head - his chestnut brown hair has gold strands weaving through it, with small red pearls attached at certain intervals. his eyes are mainly gold with tiny red streaks near the pupil, and he has gold glitter that sparkles on his eyelashes. his mask is pretty cliche, a very typical red superhero eye mask. he has a small amount of red lip colouring in the middle of his lips (close to the inside of the mouth) blended outwards into his natural lip colour.

torso - he wears a similar outfit to what he wears in the series, but a little more... well, super. instead of a prince jacket, it's a long white cape, with gold trim and detailing on the shoulders similar to the jacket. his costume is a skin-tight one-piece, bright red with gold accents and his shield insignia right in the center of his torso.

legs - the one piece is pretty much the same red, but with gold leaf patterns curling down the outside of his thighs.

feet - he has white combat boots with golden lace up the sides, fitting snugly around his superhero suit. the bottom of the soles will be later reinforced with metal plating to reduce the damage of his newly-learned super jump.

other - when he gets truly angry (usually because one of his friends has been hurt), the small amount of red in his irises bleeds and expands outwards until the gold has been replaced, and only exists in the ring around the outside of the Iris.

dee / the ringleader

head - his hair is very lightly curled and a light brown, barely peeking out from underneath his hat. instead of a bowler hat, he wears a top hat, black with a gold ribbon tied around the base. tiny black circles are stitched intermittently in the middle of the ribbon going all the way around. the left half of his face is covered by a intricate masquerade-style half mask, rounded and covering from his eye down to just below his cheekbone. it's black with gold accents, glitter and swirls eye-catching even from far away. his eyes themselves are heterochromatic, the left one having black for the whites of his eyes and a glittery gold iris. the right is more normal, with a simple warm brown iris. he has black cat-eye eyeliner and shimmery gold eyeshadow. the half of his lips that are on the side of the mask are split down the middle with bright gold, shimmery metallic lipstick. the other half is a matte black.

torso - he wears a long-tailed, gold damask patterned ringmaster coat, with black buttons and black-lined lapels. below it is a white button up with small pleated frills that line up with the open portion of the coat. the shirt is tucked into the pants.

legs - his pants are black slim jeans held up by a nondescript black belt, the only visible part being the shiny gold buckle in the middle. despite going through lots of wear and tear, the pants are fairly unwrinkled and crisp. there are thin stripes of gold going vertically all the way down the pants.

feet - his shoes are clean, shiny black dress shoes with fairly high heels. not necessarily stiletto length, but higher than normal. they have gold buckles on the sides.

other - along with his golden whips, he occasionally can be seen carrying around a black cane with a gold handle, although he doesn't have it often given that he's usually fighting a villain while in costume. whenever he is commanding his sentries, golden energy threads come out from his fingers and attach themselves to every single sentry, and he can move them around as he pleases. when he's commanding is the only time his eyes are the same colour, which is a brought, glowing yellow-gold that covers his entire eye.

patton / the medic

head - his hair is a curly dirty blonde, with pastel pink, blue, and white streaks mised in. patton also doesn't wear glasses when in costume, and instead has a mask similar to roman's, but more heart-shaped where the point ends at the bottom of his philtrum. the mask itself is a bubblegum pink, as are his heart-shaped pupils. his irises themselves are a sky blue. underneath his eyes are two different symbols, typically with one a blue tear drop and one a red heart. these occasionally can change into a star, a rainbow, a smiley face, and a cloud, depending on his emotions.

torso - he wears a skin-tight long-sleeved pink turtleneck shirt underneath a white little red riding hood-style tied capelet. the shirt has a string of red hearts lining the waist and the neck, all of which have tiny white crosses in the middle. he also wears white gloves with tiny light blue hearts where the pads of the fingers would be.

legs - the turtleneck extends into a bodysuit that goes down half-way to his ankles, but since he wears a pink, white, and light blue cotton candy watercolour circle skirt, they look like capri leggings. the skirt itself is held flush to his waist by a white band.

feet - his shoes are sky blue ballet flats that lace up to the point where his "leggings" end. they have glitter sparkling through the laces and a little red heart with a white cross in the middle just before the toes.

other - whenever he is influencing one's emotions, he has a small aura that coordinates colour with what emotion he is changing it to. (blue - sadness, yellow - happiness, red - anger, pink - love, etc). when he is healing someone, the colour in his cheek decals is slowly sapped out and becomes greyscale when he doesn't have the energy to heal anymore.

virgil / the storm

head - his hair is mainly purple, with some darker black streaks like shadows. it's long enough to hang in a fringe over his eyes, but when he's using his powers, the wind typically blows it out of the way. his irises are a bright violet and he has the signature dark eyeshadow (although much more clean). his mask is pitch black and curls out away from his eyes in sharp points like lighting, or the branches of a tree.

torso - his torso is mainly bare, only sporting a few ragged bandages wrapped around and hanging off of him. to cover it, he has a waist-length black hooded cloak that has stormcloud patterns and lightning flashing in the fabric like it's alive. his nails are painted black for the ~aesthetic~

legs - his pants are skinny black matte leather, ripped open in some areas, especially around the knees. the pockets are lines with fraying purple thread, and the three buttons are a deep violet.

feet - he doesn't wear any shoes, only those worn bandages, wrapped around his feet to barely protect his soles from the ground. he usually hovers just above the ground when he uses his powers, so it isn't always a problem, but it can get annoying having rocks poking into your feet. his toenails are also painted black.

other - when he uses his powers, his eyes either crackle with electricity, gather water on his lashes, or gain a layer of frost, depending on the type of storm he's conjuring.

remus / the jester

head - his hair is bright green and wild, sticking straight out in some places like he's just been electrocuted. he still has that white streak in the front, which always lays in a curl in front in his face. he always looks manic, wide eyes to display his neon green irises. he always has scratches and dirt all over his skin, which nearly cover the bright green paint streaked in the pattern of fingertips down his cheek and neck. he doesn't have a typical mask but rather those swirly black and white "hypnosis" glasses that sit on the tip of his nose so he can look down at someone over them menacingly.

torso - he wears a neon green waistcoat unbuttoned over a tattered, also unbuttoned black shirt. the shirt looks like it's about to fall apart while the waistcoat constantly looks brand new despite the rough treatment it gets every single time he's in costume.

legs - his pants are patterned jeans that are split down the middle, one side being bright green with black streaks of soot cinched in at the ankle, the other being unevenly cut off and slightly burnt halfway past the knee and marred by red and orange paint.

feet - he wears the stereotypical court jester shoes with the pointy tips and bells on the end if only to make fun of it, both of them brightly coloured and clashing not only with each other but themselves too. the only exception is that there are small knives pointing out from below the bells, meaning a kick should be dodged at all costs.

other - when he changes reality, he rocks back and forth, and the green in his eyes glows unnaturally bright.

that was.... so long. and really extra. it took forever but it was fun so Ha

Hey, so a little bit ago someone asked me if i would do a tutorial type thing on how to achieve realistic drawings and although this would probably fair better as a video my voice is shit and i can make sure i get everything down if i type it out.

I think the best way to do this is take you through one of my drawings? My latest Brian drawing i saved a decent amount throughout it so i can kind of comment on each process of the drawing. For the this drawing i drew it on Photoshop CS5 which is important bc i do utilise a lot of the tools there so if you use smth different then im sorry but im sure there are alternatives! I’m going to talk you through this drawing:

Because i dont use natural skin colours in my drawings i start drawings in black and white because i find that easier to control the tones? and then i can colour the drawing afterwards in whatever colour and play about with it instead of sticking with a colour from the get go. 

I start with painting the entire background a light ish grey because 1) its nice to work highlights and shade into a mid tone and 2) having pure white as a background can be a bit uninspiring? even with my sketchbooks i always make backgrounds before i do anything on them.

I then take a large brush, i use a mid-dark toned grey for this, i don’t like going in super dark super fast, and kind of mark out where everything goes super loosely, precision and proportions really don’t matter at this point, it will probably look bad but that’s fine! you’ll refine it as you go on!  the brush i use for this stage is usually just a soft non textured brush, but i don’t think the brush you use at this point really matters. My drawing will kind of look like this at this point:

I then go in with a smaller brush with a darker colour and kind of refine the face a little bit, i really take in the shapes of the face i’m drawing and try and get a good base to then really work on the shading/highlighting. Again, although this is your base to work on the proportions aren’t super important, it may still look bad but whatever is wrong with it you can just draw right over it to correct it! This is why i try and not give up on drawings even if they aren’t going the way i’d like it to because you can always correct it! my drawings never look amazing when i start them but i like to work into them as much as i can and i usually end up with something i’m proud of! anyways lmao, this is what my drawing will look like at this point: 

This is when i start the proper like working into the drawing with highlighting and shading and things. I also change my brush at this point! Honestly any brush will do but i really like the aesthetic of having a super textured brush, I do sometimes change up my brush every so often but the brush ive been using more often than not is this brush:

Also at this point i try and not use pure black or pure white, if you’re trying to go for a realistic look then i feel pure white n black really don’t factor into a face.I also think if you use more mid tone colours then there’s more of a natural gradient? which looks more realistic i feel. Of course if you like the aesthetic of having a high contrast then go for it! this is just how i personally like to do it.

I know a lot of people work by gradually working the whole face, like do loose highlights and dark tones on the whole face and then refining it but i like to do each part of the face one by one and i usually always start with the nose, this isn’t important lmao i just enjoy drawing noses so it’s what i start with. i think the use of highlight is super important to utilise when drawing the nose because its what suggests form,, this is my drawing will look like at this point:

I do end up darkening the shadow on the right side of his nose and the bottom of his nose but i usually get to this point and then move on and then once i do more ill go back and try and bring more dimension to the drawing.

Also! one of the best tools on photoshop that you can utilise and in some of my drawings it’s my saving grace is the liquify tool. Basically if you do the drawing and get to a point it would be hard to paint over then u can use liquify, as i was doing other parts of the face i realised that the nose was supposed to be a little to the left and the eyebrows had to be lower down so you if you open up liquify you can just click and drag the nose to where you want it to be so:

it’s a super helpful tool that really helps you get the facial features exactly where you need it, i used it a couple times throughout this drawing. I don’t think sai has it but you can use the lasso tool and rotate it or whatever and just draw over the little break it makes in the canvas:

so the next thing i do is the eyes and eyebrows. I’m usually not the greatest at getting the exact eye shape but again, liquify is your best friend. An important thing to note is the angle of the eyebrows in relation to the middle of the nose, Brian’s eyebrows are quite straight so i tried to keep them that way. I also started darkening up the drawing, i didn’t quite go full black, the darkest colour i used is like just off black. This is what i have so far:

Also another important thing to remember is the lighting of the image, in the image the right side of his face is more shadowed so the shadow on the left side of his nose wont be as intense as the right side and things like the bags under his eye on the right side would be slightly more prominent. Also because of the brow bone, theres more highlight on top of the brows and usually a shadow underneath because the brows are more elevated and the eyes are sunken in a lil bit. There will be a lil bit of highlight on the inner corner of the eyes though. 

In the next part of the drawing i just add a little bit to the forehead and cheeks :

I think by this time i had adjusted a couple of things like the angle his face was at was a little bit too tiled in my original draw so i just free transformed it and fixed the angle and the face i think was a little bit too wide so i just pulled it in a little bit. I think another thing to remember that places like the cheeks and forehead wont be pure highlight, especially with like men and older faces there will be more subtleties, with Brian he has highlight on the top of his cheekbones but the highlight is kind of broken up with the line that comes down under his eye and the forehead isnt a smooth bump above the eyebrows, especially with the lighting of the image the highlights get broken up a little bit. 

The next drawing is a little fast forward, i forgot to save in between but ill try and talk through everything:

When finishing up I realised the left eye/eyebrow was a little too high so i liquified that baby up to bring it down just a little bit. Another thing i sometimes struggle with is getting the exact shape of the face and angle of the jaw but you can just keep on drawing on top of it until it looks vaguely right. 

For the lips and mouth i think its kind of just a matter of trying to get a sense of the shape, look at the cupids bow and the length between the top lip and the bottom of the nose and how far the lips come out in relation to the nose as well, i think as well the shadow underneath the bottom lip is usually all you need to suggest the shape of the lip, it doesnt look all too natural if theres like a solid like to show the shape of the lip, the top lip though, because of the way the light is sitting on his face is almost completely shadowed, so the highlight on the cupids bow that goes down to the edge of the mouth is what helps give the mouth form. With teeth because they’re in his mouth so they’re not going to be super bright so i didnt add any highlight to them and just used a dark tone to outline the shape of them at the bottom and used a little bit of shading in between them to differentiate between them. 

For the eyes i usually just leave them without the pupils because it’s my brand but it wasnt looking quite right to me so i added a little outline of the pupils, i didnt want to do the full pupil because i like adding a lil smth interesting in the eyes but i like the way they turned out!  

The jaw you can usually bring out with the shadow of the neck. I didnt really feel like drawing the outfit so i kind of just did a couple of lines so show that he was wearing a shirt with a collar.

 Also for brian because he has so much hair i more often than not just use flat colour for his hair and because his hair is so dark it usually works fine but with people like Roger who has lighter hair is doesnt usually work out well? especially with a more realistically drawn face. I was originally going to keep the entire background that colour but it wasnt looking quite how i wanted to. I coloured first though, and tbh my colouring process really doesnt take me that long, the longest part is just working out what colours id like to use and what looks good with the drawing I've made.

So for colouring i use the gradient tool, you have have a gradient thats two colours that will make your drawings look like this

but recently ive started using the gradients with three colours so the highlighted sections will be a different colour to the base colour, i really like the way this comes out, without any other editing itll look smth like this:

I like to play about with the settings a little bit because i do enjoy the way this looks but it’s kind of a bit overpowering and i think sometimes the details of the drawing can get lost when you overdo it a bit? 

If you go through this itll give you many different versions of that gradient and i like to go through it and see which i feel compliments the drawing

heres a couple examples

The one i ended up going for was dissolve but it was a bit too intense so i turned the opacity down to 57%

which gave it a kind of static feel which i was in to, to finish it up i added a tiny bit to show some shoulders and then i wanted to add a tiny bit of a background so i used a flat pinky colour and put that around his hair and then on top of the background i added a little bit more into the hair.

and added so more vibrant pink into it as well just to spice her up a little bit.

A Drawing Tutorial

I thought maybe there would be some of you who might appreciate seeing some of my artistic processes. So this is a quick tutorial about digital art! This is how I do a single-layer picture, and I’ll also be discussing composition a little.

First! doesn’t matter what program you use or what size your canvas is or what tools you use, that’s all personal preference. Experiment with different brushes and brush settings until you’ve figured out what you like best.

I have recently started thinking of a digital canvas as being just as much a part of the artwork as the subject itself. This is something that holds true in any art form. If you think of the surface you create on as being another art tool, it can really help you create nice compositions and use the space effectively!

so, with that in mind my first step is to tone my “paper” so the colors I’m going to use for the main subject will have a nice backdrop to contrast against. I toss down a few soft colors and blend them out so they cover the whole canvas

If you vary the colors, it also gives a nice ambient lighting feel. So now comes the base colors, this when I make my gesture sketch. A gesture is important because it is the blueprint for the whole drawing! Gestures are not just for people, but can also include any objects in a picture! I pick a color that stands out from the background without being too high in contrast and lay down a solid gesture with a big blendy type brush so it has a softer edge. This helps it look like it really belongs here. I’m also thinking about how I want the composition to look, and usually I do this all in one go, never lifting my stylus, so I better be committed to it because if I hit the undo button it’s all gone. I’ll be drawing my oc Kouto Loryck, who is in fact an art model.

it’s important to be committed to every stroke, be bold and confident with your art. Even if it doesn’t turn out the way you want, you should at least be able to say that you were committed to it. Don’t worry about mistakes, thinking too much will only keep you stuck on one little part when you could be working on the whole thing. I had another drawing here about composition but I accidentally saved over it so I had to move that explanation to a different step haha 

Next I lay out the highlights to pull out the details of the subject. I used the same brush for most of this drawing, just changing the size to accommodate what I was using it for. Since the base color is orange, I used a really pale icy blue to highlight, and the blending quality of the brush I used kept it toned down properly so it didn’t look psychedelic. There is nothing wrong with psychedelic coloring, I think it’s really fun, but it’s not the look I wanted this time.

Now let me talk about the composition a bit. The most common composition tool is triangles. Triangles make for really pleasing compositions. And composition is all about balancing the positive and negative space in your picture, as well as creating a pathway for the viewer’s eye to follow. b

I kept this one super simple. Two main triangles in opposing directions, the eye is drawn to the head of the subject and follows the body down to the bottom of the page. Plain, simple, aesthetically pleasing. Keeping a small negative space on the other side of the subject and making a small negative space within the subject also adds a little extra variety to it. One surefire way to make an interesting composition is to place the subject off-center, because it varies the weight of the picture and makes it feel more dynamic, even if it’s a really boring pose like this one; he’s just leaning against  some vague object behind him. But I’ve got him off-center and at an angle to the viewer, so it adds interest to the composition. 

Once I’ve got highlights done, I go in and add shadows, and then I blend things smooth.

It’s important to use just a few colors to keep things simple. They should be colors that compliment each other in some way. Unless you want the color contrast to look discordant, of course. But even when you’re intentionally using colors that don’t blend nice, make sure you have some neutrals to balance with.

Now it’s really easy for me to decide exactly what I want to do with this,  so I lay out a line layer on top to plan my next steps.

This helps me figure out if there’s anything that needs to be adjusted, see if I’ve got my proportions how I want them, etc. I can then use this as a reference later to keep everything in line with my plan. Now I can go in with a smaller brush and add in any extra colors to help separate the different parts of the drawing.

And I add in extra shading to bring out the details here

Blend, redraw, add color as necessary until it looks good.

And at this point I can call it a finished drawing if I want. Or I can keep lining and shading and detailing until I think it’s really done. 

I’ll just zoom in on the face area now to discuss detailing. I have some specific brush settings I like to use for details like hair. And with the hair I draw layers of a dark shade, the color of course depends on the hair. Draw the hair in layers, first laying down a solid color a college art teacher of mine called “the hair helmet” and then go on top of that with a thin, non-blendy brush to give it the look of lots of individual strands. A brush that already has the look of multiple strands is best because you don’t have to do as many strokes.

and then I go back over it with my softer brush in the main hair color, do a few more strand layers on top of that, and this time add highlights in a few places, then blend all of that very gently so it still looks like hair.

Next is the eyes! I use a pencil type brush to bring out the lash lines and eyebrows. For the eyes themselves I layer in pale yellows, pinks, and white highlights, leaving a little of the skintone near the upper part of the eye to blend into a shadow.

Time to color in the eyes! I start with a dark circle in each eye, depending on the eye color. the iris is a funky little shallow bowl in the eye, curving inwards so actually the light hits it on the opposite side from what you might expect. But the shiny white highlight is on the same side as the rest of the lighting because over the iris is a clear dome that curves outward, giving the eye two layers to highlight on different sides.The upper part of the iris is also usually in shadow because of the eyelashes

Draw in the pupils, add a few dark lines radiating out from it to give the eyes that realistic texture, and then toss on that nice bright highlight.

Next, I detail the rest of the face with extra highlights and shadows. Here I’ve mapped out where the main lights and shadows would fall.

And finally I add in extra outlines on the nose, mouth, and ears, as well as the darkest side of the face and anywhere else that might need it

I ended up adjusting his lips quite a bit to make them the right width and shape. The upper lip is always darker than the lower lip because of the way light falls on faces. Except perhaps in cases where all the light is coming from below.

All these AUs can work with either Host or Author. I’ll write down only the Host option, though in the Human AU Author’s human name is also stated.

Most of these verses have been made from my old version of Host. Said Host is small, sort of depressed, pretty sad and soft. So the opposite of the new revamped Host. There might be differences in how I write Host due to having those two versions of Host.

I’ll make a second page for verses keeping my old version of Host in mind, which will be linked with every AU that has it.

He works on a rather popular podcast as main-narrator. He also either: Works at a radio station.                    Stays at home (financial help from his brother).

Can also go with human Author, the aforementioned brother of Host.

Both can also exist without brother.

Human Slave AU:

Host is named Markus Barker. Host is his nickname though

He is either: Born blind (sclera/pupil milky).                       Got his eyes gouged out by an owner.

He had been sold as slave when he had been a young child (around 4 y/o?).

Medieval AU: [Second Version]

Host is named Markus Barker.

He’s a servant for a noble household, with bad eyesight. He hates it there, but there’s nothing he can do if he doesn’t want to end up on the street. Even if that means being treated like dirt.

Royal AU: [Second Version]

Host is named Markus Barker.

He’s a rather young king (20-25) because his parents died in a tragic “accident”.

He’s rather strict, but very open-minded and protective of his kingdom.

He is as good as blind, only able to see colours and shapes, due to an accident as child.

Drawing a female face

In this tutorial I want to show you how to draw a face in a relatively small space. If you want to draw the entire body of a human on a sheet of paper, you need a lot of space. The head requires only a very small area, which complicates the drawing of the face.

In this Turorial I only go to the face. The Turorial, in which I explain to you how the lady Draw lady in the whole, you can find here… The goal is to draw a face like this:

Tutorial

A few info in advance: The face takes on the entire drawing sheet a very small area. This has advantages as well as disadvantages. The advantage: You do not have to draw all the details in the eyes, mouth and nose. Also, the hair does not have to be worked out in detail. The downside: even a tiny change can change the entire face or facial expression. Drawing on such a small area can be extremely difficult. You need a very steady hand and a good eye. You should be very careful with a change to such a "face small" face! As always, you should start here with a sketch. A sketched face usually looks quite different than later the finished one. So that the sketch resembles the desired face, it is best to think of all the shadows, make-up and small details of the face when drawing the sketch, and then try to grasp it roughly. On the sketch you can try to your heart's content. On the drawing sheet you first draw only outlines and rough facial contours. Do not press too hard, so you can erase mistakes later. With elements such as eyes, nose, mouth and hair an indication is sufficient for the time being. Draw them fairly symmetrically. There are still some mistakes in the drawing. The headband flies out later - it did not fit. You see, it's not a problem if the drawing does not really go down in the beginning. You can easily pre-shade the nose. Keep the nasal bone bright in the middle and make the gradient on the side slightly dark. The same thing you do at the tip of the nose. You'll leave the "bump" bright while darkening the slope slightly.

If your image has a dark background, it's best to draw it now, in such a way that the background protrudes a bit into the hair. This is illogical, but later corrected by erasing. A too-drawn background has the advantage that the outer hair appears a little transparent and the background shimmers through realistic. In addition, the object in the foreground is no longer so misplaced or "copied in". For the moment it is enough to darken the background.

Now it goes on with the face. Ignore the headband - it was a stupid idea. First, you'll darken the "outside" of the face (cheeks, chin, outer forehead). These places must be dark, because here is the most shadow and the face bulges outward. In addition, the hair cast a small shadow.

Forehead:

The forehead should remain bright in the middle. Hatch them outward dark.

Eyes:

Draw the outline of the eyes slightly . Do not create a panda eye woman. In my example, this is far too violent, one recognizes the similarity to a panda bear. No: the lady is "overworked". Details like the pupil and the iris are also easily traced. Note that the whites in the eyes should also be shaded! The further out the eye you are, the darker you have to draw the eyeball, because it archs here more. Eyelashes and eyebrows you should not draw, at best only hint. They would only cause problems in later blurring of the underlying skin.

Nose:

Again, less is more! The highest points, such as the tip of the nose or the bridge of the nose, should remain light, while the nose edge must be slightly hatched on the slope. The underside of the nose (at the holes) and the outer part of the nostrils should be dark.

Mouth:

First, erase the strong, dark strokes that sketched your lips so that they are only slightly visible. Then you draw the underside of the upper lip dark, as well as a bit of the "top piece" of the top of the lower lip. That was a great sentence. Meaning, the more the lips lead to the mouth opening, the darker you have to shade. The middle piece of the lower lip lets you shine brightly. Basically, you can do that for the middle section of the upper lip too. Thus, both look moist and shiny. The outer areas of the lips let you softly leak into the normal facial skin. If the lips are to be emphasized with lipstick, you can draw the contour more clearly. Under the lower lip is always a small shadow over the chin - do not forget it. You do not have to pay attention to the small size of the teeth, it is enough to shade the "toothed strip" outwards and under the lips.

Neck:

The neck is darker and shadier. Under the chin, you make the skin a shade darker than the rest of your face. The outer areas are also slightly darker than the middle ones.

Face in general:

Blur your hatching (if you want to blur) from the previous steps with a brush or a clean handkerchief on which there is still no graphite. Be very careful - tiny mistakes can make the entire face appear inconsistent. Go very carefully. If you cover up wrong, you can mess everything up! I erased my eyes a bit lighter. In the previous step, they were just too dark.

Mend error:

First, I removed the headband and drawn hair over it. That was terrible.

The cheeks:

They should be blurred dark on the cheekbones. The spot above the cheekbone to the nose and under the eye you leave bright or erase it brilliant, because that looks very lively.

Pony / Hairstyle:

To draw the pony, you just have to smudge the hatched brow. Then you erase the hair with a very sharp / thin eraser or an eraser. That was the whole trick with the pony. If you do so, you have a realistic vaulting of the shining brow and can later continue drawing the pony at will.

Long hair:

Shadow the long hair first with a hatch, which you then blur. Try to follow the shadow of the head on the inside of the hair and make the hair darker there. After you have roughly shaded and darkened your hair, draw a few strands with a very sharp pencil over it. Just drag down a few lines as you like to create a coarse texture. The border on which the hair falls over the face, I erased again bright. Similar to the pony.

Please compare this picture with the picture of the previous step. It now becomes very clear how much shadow and darkening (is there the word?) Affect the look of a face!

Eyes:

The eyelids are now softer - the black is no longer dominant. The eyeball looks much more real, as he is a little lighter. I also reduced the size of the pupils, which deprives the lady of the "paralyzed drug look" of the previous step.

Nose:

On the nose, the biggest change can be seen. It is not for nothing that I wrote before on the nose "less is more". The strong shadow is now much softer and less noticeable. The nose is now less dramatic. The more shadow she casts, the bigger and more striking she looks. The rest - apart from the body - remained unchanged. You can see how much shades influence the look of a face. That's why it's so hard to "sculpt" an unshaded sketch that resembles your desired face. As you will see in the next step, the face should be brightened even more.

The whole face and the eyes have lightened again (with erasing). With less contrast between the light and the dark facial parts, the face looks much younger, fresher and softer.

The eyes:

The contrast pupil / iris should be clear. If the pupil is not too small, a light reflection is mandatory, it gives the eye a lot of life. It is still missing, but the contrast pupil / iris is already better.

The hair:

Shadow the gray area, as described above, just a bit more. After that you erase light strands over it and draw their edge with a very sharp pencil and very thin lines. These lines should be peppy and drawn in one go. They can be set "randomly" in the direction of the hair and should follow no pattern. Orient yourself to the hair structure you worked out in previous steps. If your image has a background, it must now have all the details that are adjacent to the face, because it continues with the hair and the hairstyle. Some too strong dark strokes, I have removed again and erased particularly bright spots even brighter. The blond hair now looks much brighter and shinier.

The individual differences to the previous picture are not immediately noticeable. Nevertheless, the face appears alive throughout.

The hair:

Since they are blond, they have to be bright. Logical. Thick dark pencil strokes are counterproductive. They have to be erased again - but only so far, until you can see light strokes. Furthermore, the hair is much better shaded in this step than before. This is particularly evident at the point above the shoulder and at the top of the crown. The head is now more self-contained, because the dark background is present and a bright, clear contour "framed" the entire head. The contour can be easily erased.

The eyes:

The eyelid and the area above are now much softer shaded / make-up. I have minimized the strength of the eyelashes by erasing. The same applies to the pupils and the eyes. They look much brighter and more natural now. Very important is the shiny point of light in the eyes. It gives the complete face a lot of vitality and freshness. The nose and the mouth are basically unchanged. In my opinion, her hair was a bit too "greasy" and dark in the step before. The strokes were just too dominant for blonde hair. That's why I erased a few strands of hair again and brightened up places that hit a lot of light. By better shading the hairs throw light waves and fall more realistic.

Penelope has a kind of boyfriend. She tells me on the sofa of her living room, over ice-cream, True Romance on tv.

“I have a kind of boyfriend,” a dulcet sound, reminiscent of late night whispers in darkened rooms.

I know it’s not Matty, not something I need to ask. I already know who it is, we all do. Something we’ve been waiting on. Tension.

“It’s not Matty.” She says, blunt.

His name his Nicholas and he likes drugs, and he’s older than Matty.

“His name is Nicholas and he likes drugs - and he’s older than Matty.” She says, in hazed sort of rush, while digging out pieces of brownie from the tub.

I don’t know if I should ask about Matty. So I don’t.

“Oh,” is what I manage to drag out instead. It sounds vaguely interested. She smiles - there’s chocolate ice-cream smeared around her mouth. “What kind of drugs?”

That sounds less vague, more interested. I’m surprised, mildly confounded when she tells me. It’s a lot more than weed. A lot more detrimental than weed. Something that would later become apart, a flaw in Penelope’s make up. Thrill seeking, the insubordinate need to seek out danger. Adrenaline.  

A sinking sort of static - spirals through me, an emotion I haven’t really come to terms with, come to understand. It happens again - when she starts talking about Nicholas and white powder. The way she talks about it - makes the feeling intensify. Glorifying - the tone of her voice, light behind her eyes makes it seem like something divine, seraphic. The complete antithesis of dangerous.

Love, concern, annoyance, awe, disappointment - it all fizzles, tumbling over each other. The numb feeling, the emotion I can never grasp.  

Sapphire - wide, alight. A look of naivety, innocence - paired with the chocolate, her mouth. She looks far to young to be talking about any of this. Penelope.

He’s in a band. A band that’s not really a band anymore. A heavier sound than the boys, more metal. She can’t tell me when their next gig is, only saying I should go with her.

I nod. It’s vague. Knowing I won’t have much choice in the matter.

Her mum arrives home a few minutes before the film ends. It’s a bit past nine, a Saturday. October.

She doesn’t know my name - but still asks if I’ll stay for dinner. Penelope tells her we’re getting a pizza in Matty’s, promptly dragging me from the room. Ice-cream left melting on the coffee table. Chocolate.

It turns out Nicholas’ gig is a week or so later.  And of course it’s in bar, that is of course over 18′s.

So, naturally - I end up in Penelope’s bedroom. A commonplace - before most nights out. A touch of genius in her own way - she makes it look easy, to make me look at least five years older in a sophisticated way, not in a ‘I’ve just raided my older sister’s makeup drawer’ kind of way.

“Less is more and all that,” she often mutters, especially when doing my eyes, I think it’s to stop herself from getting carried away. Neutral - is usually the colour palette, shimmers. She always says my eyes should be the focus point, main feature. Hazel - she likes how brown fades to green, depending on what I’m wearing, what kind of makeup she does. Experimentation.

Lips - her main feature, tonight - blood red. I watch - her reflection, dresser mirror, sat on the edge of her bed. A Killers CD humming - When You Were Young. The second it starts - something ignites. It’s kind of a tradition between us, something that reminds me of late summer nights.

Effusion - energy, a different kind. Penelope - hiring the volume, until bass floods through the room, trembles in the floorboards, bounces off the walls, so loud I can feel it reverberating, my chest. Alive.

Giggles, laughs - dancing around her bedroom, half dressed and screaming, shouting along with the lyrics. That cliché you always see in movies, read about in books. But - fuck does it feel good. Alive. That’ something no one likes to admit about clichés, that’s why they’re called that. But - in the end, what wasn’t cliché about us. Barely legal, spending hours making ourselves look older to meet up with a friend’s older boyfriend, sounds familiar right.

But when Penelope leaps onto the bed and screams, “Watch it now, here he comes!” - I don’t think either of us care anymore. The whole facade of trying - trying to be older, trying to be cooler, trying. Thrown away - with the strumming air guitar, reckless headbanging that would no doubt ruin try hard hairstyles. Alive, clichés.

Flushed cheeks, dilated pupils - indigo ebbing, focused on my lips - finishing effects, makeup. Jagged breaths, heartbeats, still echoing. Humming along - Read My Mind. Following - the glints of her necklace, moving against the walls. A present - Matty. My eyes close. Perfume - hers, filtering. Content, alive.

Penelope’s kitchen - mostly all black clothing, mine a skirt, hers a dress, equally as short, tights, fishnets. Clichés. Leather - hanging off my shoulders, Matty’s fur coat off hers.

“Wow, you two could be sisters,” Penelope’s mum, an entertained smile. Kitchen island - crossword puzzles, coffee. She looks tired. She works at the hospital - something I had learned from Matty, as well as her name. Corrina. Greek - like Penelope’s.

Penelope - an eyeroll, her eyes are nearly the same shape, shade as her mums. Deeper - darker blue. “Can you drive us into town?”

Blunt - an edge to her voice. The tv kind of mother/daughter angst. Cliche.

A smile, sickeningly sweet - “Please, Mum?” She leans over the counter then, honey dripping, her voice, smile. Fingers - tucking a curl, behind her ear. Another thing seemingly inherited from the woman sat across from us.

Her mum looks surprised at that - “No chauffeur tonight?”

I don’t know what she means, but Penelope does, a sigh. “Mum, Matty has to set up for the gig and all that, didn’t have time to pick us up, he was running late.”

The lie slips so smoothly, naturally. I struggle not to look, double take. She didn’t know about Nicholas. Or maybe she did, maybe it’s just because Penelope knows she has a soft spot for Matty, the chances of her giving us a lift into town are better. I like to think the latter is true, but I know it’s not. She shrugs it off, picking fluff from her jacket.

Her mum’s car smells like a hospital, no matter how much the green pine air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror tries to mask it. A Fleetwood Mac song - the radio, low. She asks a bit about Matty, the band - Penelope answers in more sounds than words, drawing shapes on the windows, fogged up from the heat. Penelope used to be close to her mum before, really close. Matty told me. Before. Before her dad died, before her older brother left for uni and never came back, at least not the same. He doesn’t like to talk about any of that.

Sapphire concern - a familiar look, but from a different set of eyes. Penelope’s already halfway out of the car, shouts of thanks, see later’s. I hesitate.

Something flickers - darting back to Penelope, who’s telling me to hurry up, back to me. Lingering - a second longer, a smile. Covering, concealing - she tells me to have a good night, to take care of myself, her head tilting back to her daughter outside - “And take care of that one for me, yeah?”

Warmth - a fondness, her voice. I feel sorry for her.

Night air - harsh, cold, Penelope pulling the door open before I can say anything, all but yanking me from the car, only managing to get out a rushed ‘thank you, I will,’ before the door slams. The car - pulling away, a honk of the horn - a goodbye. Penelope’s window - drawings of rectangles, hearts, and Matty’s name. Cliche.

“So fucking annoying,” - giving me her cigarette, fingers - threading through mine, leading the way to the bar. Her hands are cold - they always are. A shift - a certain disconnect, how she treats her mum. Something I want to bring up, but I know I won’t. It feels like it’s going to snow.

Semetary Sex - is the name of Nicholas’ band, spelled with an S instead of C. I kind of hope it’s in relation to Pet Semetary, and not just a try hard attempt to be different, edgy. Either that or it’s an ode to Richard Ramirez. I ask Penelope - she doesn't know, I don’t think she cares either. She just says it’s cool, innit - proper metal.

I roll my eyes, it’s not. It’s cliché metal. From the sound to the name. Thankful - that we’re late, missed half the set. Lights - red, blue, warm. Watching - how they cast shadows, patterns on my skin, Penelope watches the band. I wish she had brought pills, far too sober for this. Everyone else - isn't, maybe that’s why they’re enjoying it so much. Maybe it sounds better when you’re high, more than high, off your face high.

“Emily, Kelsey,” - Penelope, over music. When a lilac haired girl shoves drinks into our hands. Apparently - someone heard my silent plea, wish of sorts. Lilac - the same colour as my new saviors hair, pushed past my lips. Penelope winks, Emily laughs - I presume at my eagerness. I’ve never much thought about first impressions, I suppose it’s something that I should. Cliché.

Red, blue - Emily’s face. Shadows - flicker, waiting for the high to fizzle it’s way through veins, work its way back up to my head. She’s pretty - but not as pretty as Penelope. They share a common ground in dark makeup and wild hair. I think her eyes are green, and she has a lot more tattoos. Older.

Gin - I hate gin.

Eyes - following the lights, blue - fading into indigo, glinting against metal - her nose, lip. A buzz, beginning to spiral - familiar, welcoming. My smile - mirroring hers, for different reasons. Her focus - the frontman, Nicholas. I’ve seen him once or twice before, I don’t think we’ve been introduced. I don’t know if i want to be. Penelope, Emily - their voices sound louder, louder than the music, louder than everything.

Bass - thunders through me, reverberating through bones, echoing through blood, bouncing around the hallows of my chest. I hope it finds an exit soon, consuming. Focus - on Nicolas, on the lights soaking into his skin, and I can hear the blood rushing, his jugular, strained - as if it’s about to tear through skin, melt into the lights, Red.

My vision - hovering over the edge, starting to blur, bounce. But I can still make out the shoulder length dirty blonde hair, oversized flannel and t-shirt. Tonight - his hair paired with his outfit, wananbe Kurt Cobain. Cliché.

Shirt sleeves - rolled up, ink underneath, spiraling down both arms. Metal - glints against his lips, like Penelope. Lips - curving, a smile against the microphone. A giveaway that he’s found her. Penelope. Vision - jumping, blurring - and it’s Matty. It should be Matty. An action reserved for him - a habit at gigs when he found her. It;s all wrong.

Matty - is better looking than him, I think. I think Matty is better than him in every sense. Another cliché.

Warmth - flooding, my skin. And the bass still hasn’t managed to escape my chest yet, shrugging off my jacket. Penelope’s friend asks if I’m okay - and I nod, although I don’t think I am. Familiar - the underwater quality ebbing it’s way into my vision, hearing, and my heart is about to burst from my chest at any second. So it can melt into the lights  - red.

Emily is kind of seeing Danny. Penelope tells me. I don’t know who that is. He’s the drummer. Emily informs. I nod - it’s vague, hinting that I care but I don’t. I really don’t

Her pills were different. Stronger than Penelope’s. Everything - louder, piercing. A creeping kind of claustrophobia. Faces - fading into lights, something about the last song, Penelope’s laugh. All swirl together, blood rushing faster, bass thundering harder. Relentless. I want to leave.

I think my glass drops, Penelope’s cigarettes. Bodies, lights - pushing until I find the way we came in. I don’t know how long it takes - time lapsing, everything slowing down. Except for the bass, blood - speeding up. A sickening sort of dizziness, my tongue, mouth dry.

Cold - frost embedding itself into the pavement, taking up residence on windows of cars. Breath - fogs, dancing with cigarette smoke. I watch - blue and red sparks between. Blue and red - cold, burning. A dangerous game. My fingers tremble around the cigarette.

I think it’s snowing now - cold hitting my face, blue melting against red. I’ve always liked snow. I’ve always like cold compared to warmth, heat. It’s quieter.

“Kelly?” - my eyes flicker, despite it not being my name, despite how many times I’ve corrected him. I know his voice - even underwater, when light is rapidly fading. George. Fucking George.

“It’s fucking Kelsey,” - it comes out wrong, doesn’t sound right in my head. It must not sound right to him either - muffled curses, and then - warmth, resurfacing. I realise it’s his hands, holding me up. Slipping - down the wall I was leaning against. A harsh sound - somewhere between fuck and my name. My wrong name. Telling me to look at him, and I laugh. Light - fading more, bass thundering on.

“Fucking Christ - Matty! Matty, it’s Kelsey - I don’t, she’s fucking taken something.”

Footsteps - heavy, more of my name, a different voice. Matty. Nothing - coming through, making sense. Far away noises, fading. But he said it - it replays on loop, in time to the bass, my name. He knows it.

Do you have any art tips?

Uhhhhhh Funk im not The Greatest Artist ™ but I’ll try to bestow some Wisdom on you. Keep in mind Art is Subjective and I’m no expert and all that so take everything with a grain of salt but that being said I’ll try to give u Tips and Tricks

-listen so if you have a boring class at school just draw in it. School is great because you have 1. Access to paper at all times 2. Incredibly boring lectures. If you have a study hall that’s the Drawing JACKPOT. Basically what I’m saying is practice all the time when you have energy but like that’s such boring art advice. It’s important but “practice! uwu” is like what people with Natural Art Talent say when they didn’t have to figure everything out from the ground up so it’s kind of aggravating

-There’s gonna be people better than you. Chances are you have a friend who’s better than you because this is Tumblr we all draw. Try Not To Compare Yourself ™ which idk how to do but it’s bad don’t do it

-unless you find a terrible person with worse art than you in which case FUCK DUDE COMPARE YOURSELF TO THEM! THEYRE HORRIBLE AND THEY CANT DRAW FOR SHIT LOOK WHOS LAUGHING NOW!

-“work until your idols become your rivals” is absolute bullshit because your idols are working at it at the same time you are. You fool. You imbecile. I feel like this works better for writing when your idols can become irrelevant or straight up die between you being an aspiring author 8 year old and a tired 30 year old who just wrote The Great American Novel ™ or just kind of. Leave the fandom if you’re writing fanfic. Anyway

-ok that’s all the preachy shit, time for Real Art Advice ™. Keep in mind I do digital cartoony shit with Strong Lineart and cel shading for the most part and I pretty much only draw people so my knowledge is limited to that. if you wanna be a professional artist maybe do other things and Expand your Abilities ™

-Ok first off if you’re using Gimp or Photoshop please love yourself and download Firealpaca or illegally torrent Paint Tool Sai or something. I swear by Firealpaca it cured my depression but like. Photoshop is Trash for drawing. Get Firealpaca it has Line Correction ™

-Keep Line Correction ™ at like. A 5 when you’re sketching and at a 19 (the maximum) when you’re lining, coloring, shading, highlighting, doing literally anything that isn’t sketching

-Sketching digitally can be hard if you’re used to sketching on paper and I find it easier to do a sketch on paper, take a picture of it on my phone or scan it, and line/color it digitally. You do you and figure out what works best

-speaking of which I refused to use sketchbooks until I was Worthy ™ of not drawing on notebook paper and uhhhhhh that’s dumb just get a sketchbook they cost a little more than a notebook at Target it’s not super expensive. Although if you’re not financially in the position to buy a sketchbook anyway, just hoard notebooks from school that you didn’t use much. Bam, that’s your new sketchbook

-the Head Circle Cross Thing and the Spheres For Shoulder, Elbow, and Wrist Thing are good and important and will save you

-hands are hard so use references but bullshit your way through it. eventually they’ll look good (I haven’t gotten there yet)

-HAVE FUN WITH NOSES OH MY GOD. Noses are super fun and cool because there’s, like, infinite variety with them, they can be as long or short, thin or thick, rounded or pointy as you want, you can make them be, like, triangles or circles or more squareish or diamond-shaped, the base of the nose can be about as high or as low on the face as you want, you can make the nostrils prominent or not really there at all, they can add another Layer to a character’s design, oh my goodness noses are so fun. They’re like, severely underrated and oh my god I could gush about how fucking fun noses are

-same with facial expressions. Where you put the pupils and how big they are, how much of the eye is covered by eyelids, the way the eyebrows are, the mouth, tons of other shit. There’s loads of variety and so much you can do and honestly having fun with the facial expression is The Best Part. There’s tons of Face Art Chart Memes floating around, you know the ones, save it to your phone/computer and practice those on your own time it’s fun

-if you don’t know how to do something, avoiding it won’t help you. Just kind of draw around with it in your sketchbook or in a “I’m not posting this” file until you feel confident enough to do it in your Real Projects ™.

-Ok for lining did you know..… it isn’t illegal to erase parts of the lineart to clean it up.… just be careful and draw it back in to the best of your abilities if you erase too far and use a smaller eraser brush/lining brush for this… I know it’s tedious nobody likes lining it’s okay you can do this put on some good music

-use mcfucking references

-eyedrop character’s official colors but adjust said colors based on the color of your background to make them look less funky is my general rule for clothing, I usually pick the hair/skin by myself or from something I’ve already drawn though

-for flats, make sure your lineart is all closed off and there aren’t any “holes” cuz that’ll mess up your coloring

-so how I do flats is I use the magic wand tool to select whatever I want to color, expand selection 3 pixels (in firealpaca you can set it to do this automatically), pick the color I need, turn up the brush to as big as possible, and color it in. It saves the time you’d spend with cleaning up where the color gets outside the lines

-you can do the flats on one layer, but I personally like to do every Object on a different layer so when I do shading, I know what goes on top of what

-if a color is darker than the lineart it looks ugly so pick your line color with caution (or just use black! Unlike shading black lineart tends to go with pretty much everything)

-SHADE YOUR GODDAMN ART. Like, what makes people go “wow holy shit that’s good!” is the shading + highlights, don’t be lazy ya fuck.

-I’d take a break before shading to Refresh Your Eyes ™ but also I constantly forget this is a good idea

-don’t shade with black oh my god. Unless you’re doing Strong Punchy Dramatic Stuff or monochrome black and white stuff, don’t shade with black, and if you’re doing that it’ll probably be drawn into the lineart. Don’t shade with black please we can tell you’re doing it and it looks bad

-highlighting with white isn’t too bad though, especially with the eyes, but it might look too strong in some places

-As a general rule, shading is darker and more saturated, highlighting is lighter and less saturated. Whether it gets warmer or cooler depends a lot on what color or thing you’re shading or what you want the feel of the picture to be and I’m not 100% sure how to do it myself so uh. Trust your gut and change the color if it looks wrong I guess.

-where exactly the shadows or highlights fall depends on lots of things, just kind of. Look at how things work irl maybe? This is the kind of thing that you just have to practice, and it’ll look like shit until suddenly it doesn’t sorry I’m not sure what to say

-One Medium Sized White Dot on a layer above the lineart where the pupil borders the Iris (or the whites of the eyes if you’re like me and you make the pupil and Iris one thing) works for a glint in the eye that makes a person look less dead and more cute. How big you’re gonna make it depends on how adorable you want the person to be

-SMOOTH BORDERS FOR THE SHADING ARE REALLY IMPORTANT IF YOURE DOING CEL SHADING which is why firealpaca is my best friend thanks line smoothing. If you’re doing like. Soft shading or painterly shit or other kinds of shading it’s less Super Important but like. Still be sort of neat. Unless being really messy and sketchy is what you’re going for but even then you still need to be sort of careful

-for simple backgrounds, it’s like. Easy to make it interesting. Add polka dots to the background or a big old square or a gradient or a cloud filter or something the possibilities are endless. Another option is to straight up make it transparent and write a secret message in white on the side. But uhh never do a blank white background at the very least fill it with a solid color

-ok style is kind of hard because I never had to struggle to find my style? I just “drew in my handwriting” so to speak and then if along the way I realized something looked shitty I just changed how I drew it slightly? I guess a thing you could do if you’re in tune enough is look at the styles of things you do like and things you don’t and figure out why you do and don’t like it. “I like how *2010s cartoon* does Eyes!” great take that general concept. “I hate how this shitty yaoi has enormous hands!” great then don’t do that. It’s all Personal Preference my dude style is Your Own Thing

-notes aren’t everything but fuck do they feel nice. Self reblogs are fine but don’t overdo it, I’d say reblog it Twice to account for time zones and tag it as self reblog so as to not be a dick

MSJ #3 - Memory: Haiku

I walk through the town, my eyes gazing from left to right with clear suspicion. The air is tense, very tense. Very few folks are seen out and about, but that’s to be expected.

Not too long ago I got approached by a fella in another town, they were one of the officials of this here city. They were looking for bounty hunters, lots of them. The reason? There’s a Serial Killer on the loose here, and despite their own police force...they couldn’t nail ‘em down.

Serial Killers are a complete different mess compared to criminals, and I’m serious. Criminals do crimes for some sort of gain, personal or not. Serial Killers? That lot is all loads of fucked up, they do shit for the most insane reasons. Hell, Serial Killers in general are insane.

But yeah, they’re hiring all sorts of bounty hunters. Willing to pay a giant price to all of us if we can at least drive this person away, and as much as I don’t want to get associated with these kind of killers...the money was too good to pass up.

I feel something tug at my pants, thinking it’s a pick-pocket I immediately stop and glare down at the individual with a hand reaching for one of my weapons. But I stop upon realizing it’s a kid, a Ralts.

“Mister? Are you here to help us?” He asks in a quiet, tiny voice. I can just barely see his scared yet hopeful eyes underneath that green cap of his.

My expression softens before cracking a small grin. “Sure am, kid.” I chuckle. “That baddie won’t mess with any of ya now that I’m here.” Yeah it was definitely a load of bullshit but seeing the fear in his eyes definitely didn’t sit well with me, so hopefully my answer will make him feel better.

And it did, for a big smile quickly forms on his lips. “You are? You will scare the bad people away?”

I give a nod. “Definitely, with ol’ Shadowjack here and a whole load of other folks...we’ll take this guy down no problem.” I pause for a moment before looking around with suspicion. “Where’s ya folks? Ya know...ya parents? Ya shouldn’t be wanderin’ ‘round all by ya self.”

The Ralts pauses at this, but shakes his head slightly with his smile still on his face. “My mom is at the store!”

I roll my eyes before nudging him slightly with a leg. “Then ya should get goin’, don’t want her ta’ be worried ya know?” I urge, the kid nods his little head before turning tail and running off. Didn’t even say goodbye, but I’m not worried about that.

What I AM worried is this damn killer, apparently they’ve been hitting several towns. They would kill one or two folks before moving on to the next town, and there’s no pattern in their killings. The victims would have no connecting traits, and the method used ranges from decapitation...a poisoned stab wound...or shot in the heart. The guy is also apparently very slippery, leaving little to no traces of their presence.

I’m a tracker, a skilled one at that. I’m quite positive that I’ll find ‘em, and when I do...I’ll personally take them out because I’ll be damned if this guy will kill someone else.

...

I don’t know how long I’ve been searching, definitely for a couple of hours. This whole ‘search party’ business is just one big mess, doesn’t help that all of us bounty hunters are so intent on finding this killer first to get the prize.

I’ve been wandering in one of the darker parts of town, overhead the sun is starting to set. The shadows it cast is making things look very freaky, as if they’re reaching out to snag me.

I know better than that, but the tense feel in the air is really starting to get to me. Not a single living person is in sight, all of the doors are closed and windows shut. Besides the occasional bounty hunter, the place looks like a ghost town.

“Oi!” I voice suddenly pierces the air, nearly causing me to jump. I quickly look at the source to see a Luxray making their way towards me, it took me a moment to recognize them.

“Jeckal.” I growl, my eyes narrowing in irritation. I met this Luxray not too long ago, he’s one of the numerous bounty hunters that came here. He quickly got on my nerves seeing how he constantly grinned like this was a big game, but that’s not the case this time. His face is filled with worry, something that’s definitely raising flags for me.

“Shadowjack mate, have ya heard the news?” He asks, his scarred face looking at me with worry.

“Don’t know, haven’t been in with tha’ times.” I reply sarcastically, the Luxray narrows his yellow eyes and lets out a growl.

“I’m bein’ serious ya fuck.” He hisses. “Some kid went missin’ an hour ago, everyone’s gone nuts.”

Just like that I feel my blood go cold, normally I wouldn't stand for someone to call me something like that...but the dread I felt quickly overran my irritation. “A kid?” I repeat, my body growing tense.

“Yeah, some Ralts. Up and vanished from their mo-” He starts only for him to stop when he realizes that I’m already running.

“Hey! We need to work together!” He shouts at me, but I’m already long gone. I need to find this kid and fast, if that killer got him...

I frantically search my surroundings, knocking on doors to ask quick questions. The people that don’t answer? I threaten to break in until they do, which usually gets them running to the door.

I’ve been looking for around ten or twenty minutes, and by now it’s already gotten very dark. Eventually I arrive to a dark alley, connected between two abandoned buildings. I’m already feeling jumpy now that I’m almost in complete darkness, the fact that there’s a kid in danger really doesn’t help.

I suddenly hear something, making me freeze in my tracks. I turn my head ever so slowly to try to catch what this sound is and where it’s coming from, after a few moments I recognize it to be a voice...and it’s coming from one of the abandoned buildings beside me.

Wasting no time I silently yet quickly make my way out of the alley and towards the building, taking great care not to reveal my position. The voice is quiet yet calm, but the pitch tells me it’s a guy. The front door is partially open, so taking my chances I slowly push it just enough for me to squeeze through.

I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t hold my breath, thankfully the door didn’t squeak and the floorboards didn’t groan in protest. I silently make my way towards the source of the voice with such lightness in my steps that it would seem like I’m gliding, the sound growing louder as I make my way towards the room holding the source.

Eventually I reach a doorway where I can properly distinguish the voice, he sounds as if he’s muttering to himself. I hide behind the frame as I think over a plan of action, if this person is indeed the killer...then I’ll need to efficiently take them down and rescue the kid if he’s here.

I take a quiet breath before peeking into the room, to give myself a visual idea of what the layout is as well as who’s in there.

And that’s when the blood in my veins freeze.

The room itself is empty, but what immediately drew my eyes is three things. A figure, a headless body of a Ralts, and his head laying not too far away.

A pool of blood has formed at the base of their neck, the crimson liquid slowly seeping through the cracks in the floorboards. I recognize him to be the kid that I talked to earlier today, however the expression on his face frozen in a permanent look of horror.

The person standing over them looks like some sort of Bisharp due to the helmet on their head, but seeing their rather unusual shape...I can assume that he’s some kind of hybrid.

He seems to be wearing some sort of black jacket and pants, a red dress shirt poking underneath. Covering his right shoulder is a red cape, reaching down a little below his belt.

His feet are covered in some sort of cloth similar to my custom-made sandals, poking out of his feet however are a pair of wicked talons that come out of both the front and back.

His face? Covered by a white mask with a small slit near the mouth shaped like a smile, his yellow eyes looking reptilian with the black slit-like pupils.

The guy’s middle finger on his right hand is covered in some sort of metal plating, ending with a razor-sharp point. His left arm possesses a sort of brace with a nasty looking lunar-shaped blade, the weapon covered in blood.

This guy...he’s like nothing I’ve ever seen...

I’ve noticed that his mumbling has stopped, the feeling of dread jumps to full-blown fear when I realize that his gaze is fixated on me. In his hands is a black book and red pen as if he was writing something, he snaps the book shut before placing it in a special strap hidden underneath his jacket before quickly tucking the pen in along with it.

Now that he’s fully aware, I prepare myself for combat. I take a step back and draw my daggers, I channel the power of Thunder Punch to make them crackle with blue electricity.

But the killer doesn’t move, instead he just watches me with their masked face

My gaze briefly glances down at the corpse of the kid, feeling both chilled and numb. I feel like I should be angry, but it’s as if I still can’t believe what’s happened. The killer’s voice rouse me from my thoughts, his voice containing an unnerving calm.

“This child was not it. Their poem is not fulfilling. Not perfect, a waste.” He sighs, his voice containing disappointment.

“A...waste...?” I repeat in disbelief, my body starting to feel hot. The shock is quickly leaving my system, the burning feel of anger replacing it. “Killin’ a kid...was a waste!?”

He tilts his head at me, his yellow eyes blinking a few times before he shakes his head. “Beauty in death, is a perfect poem I seek. The child is not it.” He hisses. “Thought they were the one. I was very wrong sadly, their piece...was not it.”

My grip tightens on my weapons as my rage builds, I wanted to tear this guy apart. But what’s stopping me is the fact that this guy wasn’t making any sense, what the hell does killing a child have to do with a poem?!

The figure sweeps an arm towards the child, the curved weapon causing droplets of blood to fly. They stay silent for a moment, and then they began to speak again.

"Alone is this child, oblivious and fearless. Unwary...uncaring.

The grasp of darkness, it yearns for this foolish child. Easy prey he is.

Obliviousness, this trait has betrayed the child. Fallen into its clutch.

The unwary die, the foolish suffer...this child? He’s no different.

The world is unkind, exceptions are never made. All share the same fate.

He will die, as so. My blade will cleave like its claws, dark metal on his flesh.

It hungers for blood, the foolish will sate this thirst. This child is the fool.

So blood is spilled, the child is the sacrifice....to calm the darkness...

All life is this beast, it is this beast of darkness. Hunting...and looking...

The weak and foolish... They all die, the strong shall live. This is how it is...

Be wary, be safe. The world always culls the weak, so do not be next.”

At first I look at him in confusion, and then my face pales as realization strikes me. This person is speaking in Haiku, and has been doing it since he first started talking. And that’s not all, they fucking killed a child just to turn them into some sort of sick poetry.

“Disappointing, no? The poem is very lacking, I must search again.” They say with another shake of their head. “It is good, but not. So I must search once again, to find perfection.” With that he turns away, making his way towards another doorway.

The disgust, the anger, the horror...it was just too much. I felt myself snap...

This monster...needs to die.

“You sick bastard!” I roar, I leap into action as I charge the murder. “I’ll kill you for what you’ve done!”

I leap in the air and bring down my blades, intending to slice this bitch into ribbons. But he spins to face me, bringing his blade to block my attack. Our weapons clash, sparks flying as I press down with full intention to overpower him. The electricity from my daggers dance between the metal blades, and yet no matter how hard I press...his arm refuses to budge.

The killer’s eyes narrow as he looks at my furious face, as if I’m something beneath him. “A blind fool you are, you’ll never understand art. Just like the others...” He hisses.

He suddenly takes a step back and pulls away, causing me to stumble forward since I didn’t expect this. He quickly follows up by lashing out with one of his legs, I scream in pain as his razor-sharp talons dig into my shoulder with relative ease.

Using his grip he pivots his body and throws me with his powerful legs, sending me into a wall. The partially rotten wood splints from my impact, showering me in rubble.

I glance at my now bleeding shoulder in pain before quickly standing up, glad that I didn’t let go of my weapons from the throw. I tense as I prepare for another attack, only for it to not come.

The killer...he is gone... He must’ve fled after he threw me...

The sick feeling grows in my stomach as realization of the situation sets in, realization that I have failed.

The kid is dead and the killer is gone, and I’m in no condition to chase after him.

The kid...

I stumble over to the Ralt’s corpse, tears building in my eyes as my rage melts into sorrow. This little guy, he didn’t need to die. He had a whole life ahead of him, but a psycho took it all away from him.

I...should’ve went with him, to make sure that the guy safely got back to his mother. But no, instead I just pushed him along and left him to get snatched without anyone noticing.

It’s my fault that the little guy is dead...

My fault...

I drop to my knees, my weapons leaving my grip and falling onto the floor with a clatter. Tears stream down my face as I look at his decapitated head, the frozen look of fear forever burning itself into my mind like a scar.

“I’m sorry...” I whisper.

Breeze Driftin’ On By (You Know How I Feel)

The minute I saw this drawing (nay, this piece of art), I knew I wanted to write some fluffy Shallura because God knows they both deserve a nice break

And the artist @breezycheezyart was nice enough to let me hijack their art (go check their blog, it’s so cooool :))

And now for some fluffy Shallura without any trouble …

Allura has never seen trees so tall.

Oh there were trees on Altea, but they usually stayed at a reasonable height, you know, to make it easier to pluck the fruits from their branches.

But Earth doesn’t seem to share the altean ways of altering the world to make it more practical.

If anything, those tall trees are anything but practical.

And yet.

The smile on Shiro’s face when he saw them, the minute they landed back to Earth, back to their homes, the way he tightened his hold on her hand to pull her along with him while the Paladins were taking care of an awestruck Coran…

That smile is everything, and a very good reason for the existence of those trees.

That piece of fabric stretched between the trees, on the other hand.

“Oh sweet,” Lance says, half out of his Paladin’s suit as he reverently touches it, “a hammock!”

Hunk laughs in the distance, eyes closed as he leans towards the sun like the Helianth Allura always knew him to be. “Do you need a reminder of the last time you tried to sit in a hammock?”

Lance freezes and walks away with a silent shrug, which only makes Hunk and Pidge laugh harder.

Allura will need to hear this story, but for now, she wants to take her spacesuit off and let the sunrays recharge her own batteries.

Pidge is out of their suit, and Allura goes to them to ask for some Earthean clothes.

“Sure, Princess,” Pidge replies with a sweet smile that Allura had not seen in a long time, “we could go shopping.”

Allura smiles back at them. “That would be nice.”

A couple of hours later, Allura and Pidge (and Keith, for some reasons, who decided to follow them and came back with a bag full of black shirts and t-shirts and one red bowtie) are back, and Allura found the outfit that will allow her to lounge in peace in the garden.

She wants to do that: just lie down in the Earth grass, to look at the sky even though she knows what’s up there, through the big leaves maybe, and just … be.

The whole team has changed into more comfortable outfits--even Coran, who looks very different in the soft pants and t-shirt the Paladins found for him somewhere in the house--but Allura finds Shiro in the garden instantly.

For one, his purple (not completely buttoned, mind you, what the quiznak) shirt is a vivid contrast to the green around them.

And for two …

They had better things to do, bigger--much bigger--beasts to fry, but Allura is not stupid.

She chose not to think about it to focus on the battle ahead, but she knows that her feelings for the Black Paladin go far beyond respect and admiration and friendship.

It’s all of it, and more.

So much more.

Maybe that now the danger seems to be far away from their corner of the galaxy, maybe it’s time to explore those feelings?

Maybe?

“Princess?”

Allura realizes how close she came to Shiro’s spot in the garden, under the trees, away from the rest of the group--they are busy chasing each other with water-loaded guns, and their laughter is one sound Allura wants to record and play all around the Castle of Lions--and she tugs at her hair.

“Pidge said that I needed some clothes to blend in,” she says, gesturing at her outfit, “while we’re here, that is.”

Shiro tilts his head to the side and smiles at her that private smile that seems to belong to her alone. “I don’t think that’s possible.”

“Pardon?”

“For you to--to blend in,” he stutters, a blush slowly but swiftly spreading on his cheeks from the bridge of his nose. He reaches for the back of his neck, and Allura smiles at how utterly cute he looks, all vulnerable and embarrassed.

And complimenting her, this didn’t go unnoticed.

“That’s very kind of you to say, Shiro,” she replies, reaching for his shoulder and squeezing it to dismiss the awkwardness.
