I am back at it again with another VegasPete song

Dog Days by Ethel Cain works so well for vegaspete that I wish that I was able to make edits and I will now explain to you why:

Exhibit A:

“No one’s ever gonna love me, no, not like you do/ Every night, I’m crying in my sleep ‘cause I’m dreaming about you”

This line goes with the post safe house scenes, specifically for Pete, having to struggle with how he feels about Vegas as his own person and how he should feel about Vegas as a main family bodyguard. The soup scene where he cries is almost right on the mark.

The loving line could also honestly also work for Vegas and it’s repeated through out the song. No one really did love him in the way that Pete did. We can see that in the ending when Pete (and Macau) stay with Vegas even after he was no longer a minor family heir, which was what Gun hinged all his “love” for Vegas on. Vegas basically only knew conditional love until Pete.

Exhibit B:

“You walk a fine line between god and animal/ You’re just a feral dog I worship in bedroom ceremonials”

Again, this one is from Pete’s perspective about Vegas. Vegas with his outward persona of self absorption that can’t be touched while inwardly still being a young boy gnashing his teeth and biting everyone around him before they can hurt him. Vegas who is known for his brutality and cold sadism that should make everyone fear him but who also sits by his father’s side like a dog begging for love and praise, etc etc

i think because it says “you’re just a feral dog” you could say that it’s also Pete seeing through that exterior very quickly and realizing Vegas is still that scared and angry kid

Exhibit C:

“Cut me up and take me like the bread and blood at church/ Love’s never been more than pain, so baby, show me how bad you hurt”

Ok this lyric is already insane in general I absolutely love Ethel Cain but you can’t tell me that “hurt me, and then (consume) me like holy communion” is not Vegaspete’s entire genre.

i mean come ON

tear me apart, worship me, it’s all the same to them. Beat the shit out of me, tell me you love me, kiss me with blood in your mouth and i’ll ask you to be the one to kill me because to me that means I’ve meant more to you than i have to anyone else in my life. (can you love me enough to kill me)

KPTS Playlists

Kim's Album || Chay's Album

So the concept behind this is that Kim releases a post-canon album and Porchay releases an album of his own in response. I love the idea of how the songs on each of these would affect the other person listening to them, as well as giving both characters the ability to use songs to communicate feelings that they can't express openly in person.

KimChay - Why else would I tutor you?

A big mixture of both KimChay albums + some extras that didnt fit either album but fit KimChay as a whole or inspired me while writing.

VegasPete Shoot Me || VegasPete Let it Out

I love both these VP moods but struggled with mixing them in a single playlist! The vibes were too all over the place - so now theres one for the emotional stuff and one for the self-destructive decisions bourne from hedgehog funerals and bisexual lighting

SO! Thoughts on playlists:

The concepts behind the KimChay playlists are my favourite and they're the ones I put the most thought into! - I started them back in july and I'm still adding to them now! They're not necessarily all about Kim and Chay's relationship per-se, there are a couple that I think really fit Kim's relationship with his brothers for example, or the way that Porchay feels living in the compound with his lack of autonomy. I've tried to keep a consistent sound/vibe throughout and match both the lyrics and the sound to the melancholy post canon situation!

My absolute favourite is Chay's album (lovingly referred to as the chaylist). Picturing the absloute breakdown Kim would have listening to some of these songs sang by Chay is so delicious to think about. Hopefully these would be the catalyst to a KimChay resolution!

There are a couple of other less developed/experimental playlists like for KinnBig, Tankhun (sad lol) and KimBig on my spotify profile! (as well as some other non KP playlists)

I've been on a VegasPete kick (cause what else is new?) for a bit, and have found myself unsatissfied with a lot of the vegaspete playlists I come across either on spotify and youtube. Maybe I'm just too picky. I'm not saying there aren't songs in said playlists that I haven't added to my own vp playlist, but like can't we be a tiny bit more creative people. If I see Unholy or S&M once more, I'm gonna cry/scream/die, jury's still out on which. Hence why I have recommendations. Take note, this is an entirely opinion based post so don't get mad at me. Also I lean more toward rock/heavy metal/metal and shit, so if you ain't down with that, this ain't for you.

My recs as follows:

Practically anything in the Bad Omens discography. Their music is so good, but I have a few songs directly for Vegas and Pete that the lyrics are just 🤌

vegaspete - similar to sandray in that i watched kinnporsche because of the vegaspete gifsets on the dash and was surprised to find out the series was not about them having bdsm sex in front of the corpse of a hedgehog like i was led to believe, not that i didnt end enjoying kp anyway. they alone would have been enough to make me obsessed but the things people create about them have changed me, thoroughly, like i am unrecognisable to myself after certain fics and fanart....

bokuaka - they are essential to my lore actually, like i dont post about them or engage with them as much as i used to because they are like my eyelashes like they are just a part of me now. bokuaka fanfic was what got me through high school tbh.

First ship ever: idk because ive wrote fic about characters since i was like 8..... actually im gonna be cringe and say chad and ryan from high school musical cause they were real to me when i was in elementary school <3

Ongoing Series - Thai

Unforgotten Nights (Weds on GaGa) Ep 1 - why yes I do like it better than KP, expectations are a bitch, aren’t they? TRASH WATCH REBORN!

KinnPorsche (Sat iQIYI) Ep 12 - This ep featuring dum arguments, bad pottery and questionable hair. Why is Chay suddenly in an awful wig? Did he have ror dor? VegasPete are saving this show but still a dead hedgehog does not a cactus make. (Well THERE’S a sentence.)

Sky in Your Heart (Fri YouTube) Ep 4 - It’s cute I guess.

Love Mechanics (Sat WeTV) Ep 1 - oh it’s great, also very very messy, but in my part of the world you need a sub to watch it and I am just not going to. I love YinWar, but not enough.

Check Out (Sat IQIYI) Ep 3 - Getting back together with your ex is a bitch especially when she is? I guess we know why Daonuea was ghosted. This is definitely a messy cheating story, although actually nothing happened.

My Secret Love (Sat YouTube Sat) Ep 5 - no ep this week, resumes next week

Triage (Mon AISplay) Ep 9 - I’m still waiting on this ep.

Old Fashion Cupcake (Japan Mon Viki) Ep 3 - OMG this show is wonderful, glorious, life affirming, charming. Just leaves me with the biggest grin on my face. Frankly it’s the only BL I am genuinely enjoying right now.

To My Star 2 (Korea Viki) Ep 5-6 - oh it is extremely painful and I just can’t. Pass me another tissue and more ttopokki. (I may be disassociating with BL because of this show.)

Senpai, Danjite Koidewa! AKA Senpai, This Can’t be Love! (Japan Fri Viki) Ep 2 - I don’t love this one, but I love the flipped POVs. It’s taking me a while to warm to Kaneda, but I finally found him cute when I realized how painfully subby he is. Also a TOTAL praise slut. I’m not there yet but I think I’m getting there. No ep next week, resumes week after.

Plus & Minus (Taiwan Viki *rec* & GaGa Fri) Ep 12fin - Why the baseball field? That bit I don’t get. This is probably the most cheek-kissy couple ever – kings of the trope! Both couples are cute and kiss pretty in this one. All in all, I’m satisfied. It’s not groundbreaking, I liked all the cameos. I don’t know why Vicky says that there are 15 episodes on this one. Obviously this is the end. In conclusion, solid sweet unassuming little show. Full review here. 8/10 RECOMMENDED

Want to See You (Vietnam YT) Ep 3-4 - The faen fatale character is just so asinine in this one. The brother is truly adorable though.

Love in Spring (Korea grey) Ep 9-10 . . .

Frankly, I picked up Alchemy of Souls which is the Kdrama take on a wuxia dumpster fire I have been waiting for. It’s het, but I do not care because it’s like CW level craptostic and apparently that was all I wanted in life. What I’m saying is: I have a limited capacity for flowing robes, scenery chewing villains, wooden female leads, and slightly terrible fight sequences. So I am less enamored of Love in Spring, and I already wasn’t much enamored of it. I’m not saying I’m DNFing, just that my judgement is off.

Gossip

W-Story, the Korean production house behind Where Your Eyes Linger, Sherry Blossoms, You Make Me Dance, and Mr. Heart is doing a new project: Jun and Jun. No further info.

In Case You Missed It

Is 2022 Thailand’s year of the 2 Moons resurgence? KimCop had multiple dramas, Bas did Gen Y 2 and cameos, TaeTee are in Triage, Earth is back (My Secret Love), Joong is back (Star in My Heart), and my one true love Pavel is finally returning to me (Coffee Melody - July 18th on Viki). Even Domw was rumored to have a show. Pretty much we are getting a BL from every case member who could give us one. Even Green was in Tuxedo.

Honestly, shout out to my friend who showed me True Blue by boygenius because my god does it work so well for VegasPete. I probably could tear apart every piece of the song but I’ll spare you and give you the highlights lmao

exhibit A:

I remember who I am when I'm with you ”

it pretty much works both ways, they both lay each other bare in ways they couldn’t allow themselves to before each other. To each other they’re real and human and exist outside of the boxes the narrative puts them in. Sharing comes so easy to them and of course it's not all good (they're both majorly fucked up) but they can't hide it from each other regardless. Which makes it that much more important that they still stay with each other anyways.

exhibit B:

"You already hurt my feelings three times in the way only you could"

This one's a little more straight forward, Vegas placed himself under Pete's skin in a way no one had before. I feel like obviously staying was killing Pete but I think leaving did in a way too. also honorable mention:

this scene... they just deal each other like irrevocable psychic damage that's only possible because they're the one doing it.

uhh and lastly

"Your love is tough, your love is tried and true blue"

*insert montage of them beating the shit out of each other*

no but yeah, the way that they love is rough and messy but it's what they know how to do. Here Vegas sees love as letting Pete be the one to hold his life in his hands. Pete's love involved killing the guard who shot Vegas. They love deeply but it's definitely jagged along the edges.

and there you have it lmao I could keep going but at that point i'd just be reading you the whole song and i don't think anyone wants that

Since the only playlist I've been adding stuff to lately is my VegasPete one, I'll take the songs from there (with commentaries! because of course):

Hurts Like Hell by Fleurie (post-safehouse era)

Can I by Alina Baraz & Galimatias (safehouse era; can go both ways, but especially from Vegas' POV)

Bad Boy by Red Velvet (Pete's POV (ironically?); Biu kind of suggested this one)

Oxygen by Jackson Wang (someone used it in an edit and I couldn't unsee it; it's mostly vibes, but the first part of the lyrics could be linked to them, with some imagination)

I'm glad the shuffle didn't throw me something that everyone knows, like Daddy Issues, or Mirrors, or even I Found, but I must admit I felt a little betrayed when it didn't play Jaymes Young's Black Magic. Hello???? It's one of my favorites for them!! Why is no one ever on my side!!!! *sigh*
