Valicer OT3 Week, Day Two: The Cool Kid, The Jock, And The Nerd

OT3 Week (as per @ot3-week) continues with a prompt that definitely seemed suited for a High School AU -- "The cool kid, the jock, and the nerd!" I think we can all agree that would be Smiler, Alice, and Victor respectively. :p At any rate, here's a high school version of the trio hanging out together at lunch -- with Victor having a rather important question for Smiler...

“...why do you hang out with me?”

To Victor’s horror, Smiler looked up from their sandwich, confirming that he had indeed said that out loud. “Because...I like you?” they said once they’d finished chewing and swallowing. “Do I need a better reason than that?”

“I – um, it’s just...” Shut up shut up shut up – but now that the door had been opened, Victor found himself plunging onward, needing to know. “You’re easily the popular, well-liked person in this school. The coolest of the cool kids. People think you’re the greatest – and you are!” he hastened to add, waving his hands. “You’re funny, and friendly, and you really s-seem to take an interest in e-everyone – anybody and everyone likes to hang out with you! You could be friends with anyone! And – and I’m–” Victor swallowed, trying to find the words. “I’m – n-not that. I’m – me.”

Smiler gave him a long look – the kind of look that suggested some kind of “Victor Is Having Self-Esteem Issues Again” alarm was going off in their head. Then they put down their sandwich in favor of taking his hand. “And I like you,” they repeated, looking Victor in the eye. “Even if you’re nothing like me. Especially since you’re nothing like me! I don’t need another me in my life – I’ve already got me! But I didn’t have a ‘you’ until I met you. And now I do.” They shot him one of those stunning grins. “And I’m very happy about that.”

“I...” Victor pulled at his tie, trying not to think about how warm Smiler’s hand felt against his. This wouldn’t be half as hard if I hadn’t had a very enlightening dream about my romantic tastes last night, he groused to himself. Why couldn’t this have happened before I realized I had a crush? “I just – don’t get it? W-why you would want a me?”

“Well, for starters–”

“What’s going on?”

Victor looked up as Alice (aka the other person that he was crushing on, and who hopefully would never find out that fact) came over, carrying a tray. “I mean, I can guess from context that Victor just had a self-loathing moment, but fill me in on the specifics,” she continued, sitting down.

“Not much to fill in – Victor just asked me why I hang out with him, and I’m in the process of reminding him that he doesn’t have to be one of the ‘cool kids’ for people to like him,” Smiler told her.

“Ah.” Alice picked up a chip and popped it into her mouth. “Well, allow me to second the sentiment. I personally find ‘cool’ is often overrated.”

“Maybe, but...I-I just have a hard time seeing the a-appeal of me,” Victor said, looking between them. “Especially – Smiler, like I said, you’re already the most popular kid in school. You don’t need to hang out with someone like me if you want company. And Alice – you’re smart, you’re witty, you have an amazing imagination – oh, and you’re an incredible fencer. The absolute star of the team!”

“I’m also the girl who most people avoid because she spent the majority of her childhood in supervised hospitalization after her family died in a horrific house fire,” Alice retorted, taking a swig from her bottle of soda. “And the one who still talks to invisible creatures on the regular, because so far every medication I’ve tried has had side effects that just are not worth it. Just because I’m like, three percent jock doesn’t mean my social life is any better than yours.” She jerked her head to the side. “Do you think I understand why Smiler’s here? They could do damn better than hanging out with the local loony, that’s for sure.”

“What do I have to do to make you both understand I like you and that’s the end of it?” Smiler grumbled, folding their arms.

“Go back in time and stop the murder of my parents and sister,” Alice replied, waving a fry at them.

“Somehow convince my mother that I’m not a complete failure of a human being,” Victor muttered, looking at his feet.

Smiler sighed. “You two sometimes...look,” they said firmly, leaning across the table. “I think you’re both awesome people, all right? Alice, I agree with everything Victor said – you’re intelligent, you’ve got a great sarcastic sense of humor, and you’re frighteningly good with a sword. I respect that a lot. And Victor – you’re kind, and artistic, and really smart yourself! You know so much about butterflies, you could write your own encyclopedia! I’ve learned a lot, hanging around you!”

“Not to mention your piano skills,” Alice said, shooting Victor a little smile that made his stomach do flip-flops. “I know your parents have got you thinking that you’re not worth anything, but – you really are. To us, at least.”

“Yeah – so could you please stop trying to understand why we’re friends with you and just accept it?” Smiler added, reaching over and giving Victor’s wrist a little squeeze. Then they shot him a disarming grin. “Or do I have to kiss you silly to get that to happen?”

Victor felt himself go beet red as a certain bit of a certain dream started replaying itself in his head. “I – uh – you – um–”

“Who put you in charge of kissing him?” Alice asked, with a playful smirk that did not do anything for the images inside his brain. “Maybe I want a go at it.”

“Maybe we should just do it both at once then,” Smiler joked back. “That’d probably reset his brain.”

“...really?”

This time it was both Smiler and Alice blinking that alerted Victor to the fact that, once again, he’d said that out loud. He dropped his head, wincing. Oh no – that’s it, that’s the bridge too far, it doesn’t matter what they said before, me blurting out that I’d be open to kissing both of them at once is sure to make them –

There was another squeeze on his wrist, and he looked up to see Smiler and Alice looking at him with – not disgust, like he’d feared, but simple surprise. And – just perhaps, if he wasn’t seeing things – a bit of interest? Could they possibly... ? “Well,” Smiler finally said with a little wink. “Think that’s a discussion we should have after school.”

Hope alighted in Victor’s heart, chasing all the dark thoughts away. “Yes,” he breathed. “After school.”

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW

Victor Van Dort is based on Victor from Corpse Bride. He is a 26 year old cursed human, pianist, and uses he/him pronouns. He has the power of seeing and interacting with souls who haven’t crossed over. Victor is portrayed by Timothee Chalamet and he is taken.

CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Victor Van Dort lived a fairly humble life growing up. His parents were caring and present enough but usually left him to his own devices. They were involved enough to get him into piano at a young age and encourage his hobbies, but Victor’s first love quickly became music. He was a natural at piano and tried his hand at other instruments over the years, often composing his own music and on occasion lyrics. Victor had always been a bit of an awkward person so when his parents struck rich his life changed forever. He was told he was betrothed to marry Victoria Everglot, a young woman that came from a very well known family. Little did his family know that her parents were just after the fortune their daughter would inherit. After meeting Victoria, Victor had grown to care for the woman. He showed her piano and she showed him a side of herself she hadn’t even known existed. Then the night before they were to be wed she ran away. Victor doesn’t know how long passed before he woke up in Evermore. Something told him Victoria was there though and he knew he had to find her, despite still not being thrilled he had to be wed off to someone he barely knew. Then one fateful night in the forest he was practicing his vows and placed a ring on a branch and before his eyes could process what happened there was a beautiful woman standing in front of him wearing his ring. He learned that her name was Emily and she was the walking undead. Victor never knew of such things but Emily was once human before her husband murdered her. She was a strange girl but Victor couldn’t help but be drawn to her. The more he got to know her the more he felt close to her. She showed him a side of life he never thought he’d be apart of. Then he found Victoria and Emily felt betrayed when she learned the truth of his betrothal. She had Victor cursed with being able to see and interact with the dead who haven’t quite crossed over and were living as shadows between our world and theirs. Victor hated it. He began having nightmares, grew paranoid, and couldn’t stop seeing them wherever he went. He's gotten better at tolerating it but it sure does frighten him. He's afraid he's gone mad and his heart is torn. He's started playing piano for various shows around Evermore. He remembers everything from his life before and that drives him even more insane. He's not sure how long he can keep this up but he's trying and throwing himself into his work, taking it one day at a time.

❀ Barkis Bittern: The man is cold and cruel and Victor doesn’t know this is the man that was wed to Emily in her past life. He knows he could marry Victoria if things don’t fall into place and he refuses to let that happen. The only issue is that Victor doesn’t know what his heart wants and fears the man. ❀ Aurora Reverie: The two bonded over hearing way too much in their head. They’ve found solace in each other and Victor is thankful to have her as a dear friend. ❀ Chloe Balaska: Victor walked into her shop to mend a suit once and she’s been the person he goes to ever since to get any tailoring done. The two are friendly with each other. Victor often wonders if they could go out sometimes to get his mind off of all this other business but he’s too scared to ask.

༶ ⋆ ROMEO & JULIET PLAY ( super casual background plot )

This production of Romeo & Juliet is a joint-feature by Walt University and Fantasia Theatre. It follows the original script for the play, with only the following changes: the play is now set in the 1920s, and any gender can play any role. Aside from the original scenes, there’s also opportunity for dance scenes and musicians (to either be in the pit, or on stage in costume hehe). Lots of things are TBD, but yeah!

Only Walt Uni students can perform, but anyone is able to assist in the crew and behind-the-scenes. It is also a largely student-led production.

FYI: Muse Cull

Yes, you read that right. I’m planning on permanently deleting some of my less active muses (much as it pains me, as I adore them all), but I wanted to give you a heads up which ones I’m planning on saying farewell to, just in case you followed particularly to write with any of them, and just hadn’t got around to it yet. I am being pretty ruthless with the list, so if there is someone on this list who you actually do want to write with, make it known fast, before they’re deleted forever. I won’t be bringing them back once I’ve deleted them.

Felix Kennedy; though he’s an OC who I adore so much (I just want to hug him all the time) he gets no interaction whatsoever. Maybe I’ll eventually write a story for him to star in.

Miyuki Hayashi - another OC I love, who has an interesting backstory and interesting powers, but another who doesn’t get any interaction at all.

Bruno Madrigal - yes you read that right! Y’all know how much I ADORE Bruno, but it seems that the Encanto fanbase has withered and died over the last few months and he was quite popular for a bit but now no one seems to want to write with him.

Pepa Madrigal - same with my darling Pepa. I love her so much, but the Encanto fandom seems to have died and no one seems all that interested in doing crossovers with her.

Esmeralda - same thing with her. I love her, but she doesn’t get any interaction.

Jim Hawkins - now this one hurts because I ADORE Jim. He’s one of my favourite muses but no one ever wants to write with him. I believe I had one thread with him a million years ago on my old multimuse blog. On here, no one’s written with him ever.

Matsuda - it kills me to get rid of Matsu, but no one ever wants to write with him in the DN fandom. Maybe because he’s too pure for this world and the DN fandom only ever wants angst? (I know I’m hella guilty of that too).

I like your enthusiasm ||

A family of good money it wasn’t hard to see that he was wealthy. Women from all sorts of places flocked to prove themselves to the Van Dort boy. But he was uninterested. Victor would rather spend his time getting to know his significant other and playing piano. He wanted to find his true love and spend every available moment getting to know them. Doing things that they both liked rather than being forced into an unhappy marriage. There was one girl, however, that made his heart pound. She was sweet and beautiful and everything that Victor adored in a woman. They seemed to really connect and bond. They seemed so perfect for one another. However, his happily ever after was short lived as on the eve of their wedding...she ran away. Eloped and disappeared with another man. Leaving a heartbroken and depressed Victor to wonder what had went wrong.

As he got older his parents pressed that he needed to find a wife. They claimed that he was too picky and that he simply needed to settle as they had. The very thought of not even remotely liking his future wife made him sick to his stomach. But he begrudgingly agreed to his parents terms. A year or two later he was informed that they had found the perfect little lady. Her name was Victoria and she came from a once wealthy family herself. Though just how poor she was they were unaware. While he agreed to meet her, Victor still protested that he wanted to at the very least like his significant other. His parents shook their heads at him and reminded him that he had agreed to this before hand. With a sigh, he hung his head and introduced himself to her. She was a woman after his own heart and it didn’t take very long for him to grow fond of her.

But on the eve that they were to get married he ruined their vows. Their priest declared that until he mastered his vows that he would never be ready to marry. Distraught, Victor went into the woods and practiced and practiced and practiced. Finally, he got them down. Placing the ring on a nearby tree branch that stuck out. Only it wasn’t a tree branch...it was the finger of a corpse. Out from the earth sprouted an elegant looking young woman by the name of Emily. While he learned her devastating tale he was still terrified of her and what everyone would say, do and think of her. So, in order to save them both he told her he needed to go back up to the living world and talk to his parents. In reality, Victor was going to talk to Victoria. But when he arrived she was gone and there was rumor that she was to wed another man. Confused, he went searching for her which led him on a wild goose chase where he ended up in another city under the siege of war.

He knows that he has to do the right thing and eventually end his life to be with her. But this still terrifies him and he still has to find a way to inform Victoria.

Victoria Everglot-->”But then, on meeting you, I felt that I should be with you always.”

His would be fiance. He feels pulled and bound to her somehow and knows that he has to find a way to fix what he has done.

Introducing Victor Van Dort. He is a Student and musician that belongs to the Spring District. He’s 19 years old and strongly resembles Lorenzo Zurzolo. He’s open.

Get to know him…

Victor Van Dort has always been a shy guy, there’s no other way to put it. Since he was a kid he’s been more on the quiet side, he likes to observe things and try and look at them from different perspectives, find beauty in every ray of light. But when it comes to sharing his amazing mind and ideas, he always hesitates. Some people might confuse this with him being snobbish, since his upbringing did leave him with a rather strong penchant for elegant, yet over-expensive clothes and pairing this with his not-so-outgoing personality can make it easy to misjudge him. Either way, he’s a soft-spoken boy with a big heart and little stutter, that can talk for hours on end about his favorite classical paino pieces or his latest reads to those close to him. If you manage to approach the elusive boy and strike up a conversation, you’ll be able to see that even if he’s not much of a talker he does take care to make sure everything he says comes from the heart.

Welcome to the coast…

The term noveau riche would be perfect to describe Victor’s parents. His father was lucky enough to stumble upon the will of a long-lost relative that had, for some reason, decided that William Van Dort would be the perfect candidate to inherit his multi-million fishing company. William had worked as an assistant accountant before that, which came in handy because it gave him the ability to at least understand his new business’ finances, even if the rest took a lot more to figure out. And thus, William, his wife Nell, and three-year-old Victor’s lives changed forever. While he grew up as a very creative yet frail young man, who would spend most of his free time away in his room, reading or playing the piano, William started doing more and more hours at the company and Nell made it her goal to become a fancy socialite, like the ones she used to read about in magazines. That is how Victor met his “cousin” and (only) friend, Victoria. The girl was part of one of the most renowned households in Taormina, Italy, so it was natural for Nell to push Victor towards her and herself towards the distinguished Lord and Lady Everglot. The kids were not really related, of course, but Nell and William put a lot of effort into squeezing themselves into the Everglots’ good graces and they were eventually accepted into the elite social circle. Unbeknownst to them this was because the Everglots, while prominently distinguished, were running out of the money their family had been spending for generations. So the relationship was mutually beneficial, even if none of them really considered the others friends. Lucky for Victor and Victoria, they actually found a companion in the other. To go through the lonely and dense Mediterranean nights together and complain about their over-bearing parents and their ardent desire to educate and mold their children into what they wished they could’ve been, never asking about what they dreamed of or needed themselves. 

Stay a while…

When Victor finished high school at 18, his parents decided the best thing would be for their son to study at an exclusive school somewhere in a different country. When they found out Victoria was going to Ancora University in Costa Serena, they followed suit and informed their son he'd be moving there after the summer. While Victor was happy to follow his friend, he wasn’t particularly thrilled about the idea of moving to a different continent in a month, still the thought of running away from his asphyxiating lifestyle, at least for a while, did excite him. He managed to convince his parents into paying for a double major at the university, studying English Literature and Poetry for himself and Enterprise Management for them. He’s at the top of his class in the first and manages the second, he’s not a bad student, he’s always been dedicated and intelligent, he just doesn’t much care for anything the career has to offer. On his free time, he takes turns reading and hanging around the beach, or covering some shifts playing the piano at The Sandbar and Harryhausen’s. Obviously, he tries to keep this from his parents, who would be horrified to know their son is working for someone, but it’s actually helped him come out of his shell a little and feel more independent.

Valice Calendar: If It Wasn't Official Before Then, It Sure Was Official Then

Wondering what I'm talking about? Well, we've reached one of the last couple of dates to celebrate on my Valice( r) Calendar -- specifically, this is the first mention I could find of one of my Alice muses for LJ RP calling one of my Victor muses her "boyfriend." The context for this one was that I was doing a personal "88 Advent" fic-a-thon for my LJ of stories of 88 words in the days leading up to Christmas, and the fic for that day was a meta one featuring one of my Marty muses encountering my new Alice muse (who was intended for "Beyond The Rift," the game I mentioned back on the "thinking of fanfic" day) having just made gingerbread. And being suspicious of said gingerbread as she'd made it under the tutelage of Ms. Plum from Corpse Bride. XD At any rate, this is what I wrote immediately under the fic:

Yes, this is FuturePossibleRift!Alice, who insists on hanging around my head. -Alice: Well, my boyfriend's here!- -Rift!Victor: pleased blush-

So yeah -- I was definitely shipping it beforehand, but this was probably the final nail in the coffin of me ever trying to get free of this ship again. Victor was Alice's boyfriend, and that was that. And it's been that ever since. :) Really glad I never convinced myself this was a horrible ship -- it's been a real source of joy in my life over the past fifteen years. And I'm glad so many of you seem to enjoy it as well. Here's hoping for many more. :)

We welcome Victor Van Dort to the city. He’s 32 years old and is a music shop manager and artist. Victor is often mistaken for Eddie Redmayne. He’s open.

→ Background Information

Coming from a family of fisherman and seafood aficionados, Victor had lived by docks in the city for as long as he could remember and his family had always longed to be desired by higher society - though Victor had never really hopped onto that bandwagon. Being incredibly humble himself, he’s never been one to brag or push himself on anyone else. Victor grew up with fish but it was the last thing he wanted to pursue or focus on. He took up piano lessons at a young age and discovered his gift for a tune. In high school he dated his best friend, Emily, briefly, but it just wasn’t going to work out. It was during his university senior year piano recital where he met Victoria and was in love from the first moment he laid eyes on her. In addition to be a talented pianist, Victor is also very good at studio art or painting. 

→ Living Situation

Victor has spent the majority of his life living with his parents who have always been frugal with their money and Victor has learned the same. He’s simplistic which explains why his apartment with Victoria is so minimally decorated at the moment, though Victoria is doing everything she can to spruce it up a bit. He doesn’t like to bring great attention to anything so their little two bedroom apartment is cozy but a little bare in terms of things on the walls. They do have a special spot for their piano, though, which Victor spends several hours a week playing.

→ Relocation Explanation

After university and spending several years living alone in bachelor pads or with roommates for a short period of time, and after Victor proposed to Victoria it was a no-brainer that the two were ready to make the move to a new place together. Though Victor hasn’t spent too much time living on his own without the support of his parents, he’s incredibly excited to begin this adventure with his fiance and his pup Scraps.

→ His Personality

Victor has always been soft spoken and gentle with everything he does. His parents have expressed repeatedly that he wouldn’t be able to hurt a fly. He’s shy and is often scared of his own shadow, and hates the feeling that he’s being watched. Victor is often nervous for no reason really and has had some very socially awkward moments. Living with his fiance has helped him tremendously though and he does his best not to act like a fool. He’s quite the gentleman and would honestly never hurt a fly.

Victoria Everglot (Fiance): After meeting during the piano recital Victoria and Victor have been inseparable. Victoria is absolutely in love with Victor and his kind heart and talent. The two have dated for several years and have been engaged for one now and they’re moving into their first townhouse together. They’re a very supportive couple, Victor encouraging and being Victoria's biggest fan when it comes to her writing, and Victoria attending every piano performance Victor plays.

Emily Corpus (Best Friend): Emily and Victor have been best friends for years, having often told each other everything they knew and then some. Victor knows Emily is strong and wants nothing but the best for her and is blind to the feelings she still shares for him. He just enjoys having a long time friend to be there for and vice versa.

→ Possible Connections

Barkis Bittern (Acquaintance & Enemy): Barkis is the ex boyfriend of both Victoria and Emily and while Victoria has never mentioned his name, Victor would know who he is with ease. Victor does know that Barkis dated Emily, and he's never really forgiven the man for his treatment of his best friend. There's no telling how Victor would respond to discovering his past with Victoria.

Victor is based on Victor Van Dort from Corpse Bride.
