The Japanese 3X3 Interval Walking Workout
The overarching principle of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is that the harder you do an exercise, the more physiological benefits you accrue; thus, by incorporating intervals of higher intensity efforts in your workouts, you can get more fitness bang for your buck in less time.  When we think about HIIT, we tend to think about going absolutely nuts on a fan bike or doing all-out sprints. But as Dr. Martin Gibala explained on the AoM podcast, while high-intensity training rises above the level of the moderate, it doesn’t require a complete max out of your heart rate, nor is it limited to certain exercise modalities. You can do interval training by pedaling like a madman on a bike, but you can also do it with a less strenuous approach.  Enter Interval Walking Training (IWT), which originated in Japan. This 3X3 walking workout is simple: you do 3 minutes of low-intensity walking (40% of peak aerobic capacity for walking — a little faster than a stroll), followed by 3 minutes of high-intensity walking (70%+ of peak aerobic capacity for walking). You repeat these interval sets at least 5 times, and do this 30-minute workout 4 times a week. Your heart rate during the high-intensity intervals will vary according to your fitness level and age. One 68-year-old who participated in an IWT-based study had his heart rate go up to about 130 beats per minute during the fast intervals, so you’re moving at a good clip. Even though IWT is highly accessible, studies that have been done on it show that it produces significant health benefits. People who did Interval Walking Training 4X a week for 3 months experienced significantly more improvement in their blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, leg strength, and aerobic capacity than those who did continuous, moderate-intensity walking.  Hiroshi Nose, who developed Interval Walking Training, reports that among those who do IWT, “Physical fitness — maximal aerobic power and thigh muscle strength — increased by about 20 percent which is sure to make you feel about 10 years younger than before training, [and] symptoms of lifestyle-related diseases (hypertension, hyperglycemia, and obesity) decreased by about 20 percent.” IWT walkers enjoyed mental health benefits as well: depression scores dropped by half. Walking in general is already one of the very best forms of exercise you can do, and IWT just helps you take its benefits up a notch. Hiroshi has used Interval Walking Training to get thousands of elderly Japanese citizens into shape, and it’s a great form of exercise if you’re in the older decades of life. But it’s also good if you’re just beginning your fitness journey and looking to get off the couch and start doing more physical activity. Even if you’re already a regular exerciser who’s in good shape, IWT is a nice way to mix up your usual neighborhood strolls while enhancing your health even further.  For more HIIT protocols, from the accessible to the challenging, listen to this episode of the AoM podcast: Help support independent publishing. My personal thoughts on the micromanagement treatment between Logan & Williams
⚠️ Disclaimer: This post is a very long post.
⚠️ Trigger warning: Mentions of "C-19" and mentions of micromanagement with Dallas Wings on former head coach Vicky Johnson plus ex Dallas Wings Player Allisha Gray plus Williams Racing Team on current Team principle James Vowles and Logan Sargeant in addition to how author did felt as if she did hit her lowest point of her very own life (A.k.a Rock bottom for real) due to countless events which did happened in her in her very own real life.
The way the Williams Racing Team treated Logan Sargeant does reminds me dejectedly and traumatically does reminds me of how Allisha had been treated by a former head coach of the Dallas Wings Vicky Johnson had treated Allisha so badly by having to truthfully bad-mouthed her and putting the blame on Allisha for a poor performance on the game of Las Vegas Aces vs Dallas Wings back in June 2021 on a five game road trip; it's like they think Allisha was responsible for the loss because of how she had been feeling drained from the 3x3 Basketball qualification event at Austria where she was playing with the 3x3 USA Team alongside Kelsey Plum; Stefanie Dolson and *Katie Lou Samuelson (*Whom she had contributed her part with the team on the qualification event way before sitting on the Tokyo Olympics due to "tested +" for C-19 so Jackie Young who is a team mate of Kelsey Plum with the Las Vegas Aces had to truly take place of KLS) and was also named as a "MVP" of the 3x3 USA Basketball Team during her time with the USA 3x3 Basketball at the Qualifying event in Europe and then meanwhile, Vicky Johnson had placed the blame on Allisha for the poor performance she had placed her during the time of the LV Aces vs the Dallas Wings Team back in June 2021 on the 5 Game Road Trip and already this does reminds me of how the Williams Racing Team unfortunately treated Logan in such a bad manner which does really makes my heart felt sad for him--especially with all of the comments which are deeply hurtful, nasty and downright insulting towards Logan and already do we need anymore insults for that?? No, I don't think we needed it anymore.
Plus also sorry if I did have to write this post because these days I did felt as if I am feeling as if I am at my lowest point these days as honestly, it does saddens my heart to hear what Logan had to truthfully went through in his very own life not just only as a professional F1 Driver but also both as a person and as a human being as well.
Anyway, in other words; thank you for reading this long and lengthy post about the rant that I did truthfully have to truthfully say about what Logan had to went through with the Williams Racing Team just the same as how Allisha went through with the Dallas Wings Team and a former head coach on Vicky Johnson back in 2021 and 2022 way before the changes on how Allisha got a request to be traded to her home team of the Atlanta Dream. (Plus yes, I am still in a full-on level of denial of how Allisha got traded away to a team like the Atlanta Dream and yet Dallas tried to rebuild themselves by fulfilling the void with Maddy Siergrist; Ashley Joens [Whom IDK what had happened to her after they waived her off from the Wings Team]: and so many draft picks whom there is no way they can fulfill the void of Allisha Gray, Kayla Thornton or Marina Mabrey as this does makes the team looks way too different more so than how they are with players like Lish, Kayla: Marina; the seldom utilized Chelsea; Jasmine, Bella and also the waived off Jazz Bond; Destinee Walker and Unique Thompson. Sheesh.
Also, sorry if the post is truthfully long and rant(y) ever since I got so much to say to be honest at this point; everyone.
Anyway; let's all be kind and be respectful to each other and thank you again, for reading this post.

People are having an argument on the street outside my apartment. I can't hear everything but this dude is upsetti spaghetti and is going OFF. I don't know who he's scolding right now but apparently they are entitled. I have no idea of the other person's side because they are not loud so I cannot hear what they're saying. Also this man isn't yelling, but he is heated and very loud but not loud enough for me to hear everything he's saying over road noise and everything else.
OMG they're my neighbors! They just walked into the building!
OOOOOHHHH. Okay so they're talking about jay walkers. Jay walkers are entitled. The woman he's talking to said they deserve to get hit because they're able bodied.
Now I know all about his uncle with a five bedroom mansion. This conversation is all over the place. What I can't figure out is why it's happening outside my apartment. They are literally standing in a like 3x3 foot space and conversing loudly about the most random shit. Go home??? This is crazy

Graded Unit Evaluation
EVALUATION
For my project I planned to shoot outdoors. Studio photography has never really appealed to me.  I had many ideas such as landscape, street photography and architectural photography.  The advice provided was shoot something you enjoy but at the same time go out of your comfort zone.  When I am out on my own, nature is where I go, trees, rivers, waterfalls.  They all make my photography experience enjoyable and comforting.  Leading lines are a source of comfort, they are pleasing to the eye and make sense to me. As a result of this I decided to shoot perspective/symmetrical photography.
After doing the research I knew this was the one, this felt right and felt excited by the challenge.  The style of symmetrical photography, vertical, horizontal, and radial encompass all I enjoy. Planning for this shoot was a big piece of work, for instance, a market for the work I created would be for galleries or private collections as I was considering my work to be Fine Art Photography, however, it was suggested that I consider photography stock libraries such as Alamy.  When I explored this further I found out that it is a website, you type in what can of image (waterfall) you want to see and it brings up all these images.  Basically, you can buy and sell images.  I have seen these websites before but never paid much attention up until now.
Initially when it came to planning the timetable, I was doing it as though there was a normal college timetable and that I would be working weekends. Therefore, I would only be out shooting 2 or 3 days a week and there was only 3 weeks to shoot after handing in the Project Plan.  This changed as a result of the Coronavirus Lockdown, at the time I was unsure if I could go out and shoot, fortunately I could, I had more days to go out and shoot. Fortunately I required very little in the way of equipment, I only required a camera and a tripod, no special lighting equipment, just natural light.
As mentioned above the research into other photographers such as Aaron Sisland, Ola Kolehmainen and Angie McMonical made me feel more confident in that the style of photography I was wishing to achieve was right for me. With Sisland’s leading lines and vertical symmetry in his work as too with Kolehmainen and the use of McMonical’s perspective when taking her images which gave them an abstract feel.  I liked this concept of abstract photography with the help of perspective and symmetry.
My first couple of days going out shooting, I wasn’t expecting anything good, I was just making a start, experimenting.  I was fortunate to get a nice shot of Bells Bridge,
Tumblr media
I waited quite a while to get this shot and was hoping to get a shot with no one on it.  This wasn’t possible even with the lockdown restrictions.  This image works for me as a result of the vertical symmetry of the bridge, also the light hitting of the Armadillo and the blue sky.
As I had the car I could travel to various locations in and around Glasgow and as I was on my own the Police didn’t bother with me. I ventured to various places such as The Quay, West End of Glasgow, City Centre, Dams to Darnley and Port Glasgow. Many of my shots were taken in Glasgow City Centre. As I was in the City Centre much of the time and there were very few people and transport around, I made the decision (with advice from my lecturer) to change my project ever so slightly. I was still going to take perspective/symmetrical (they were more vertical symmetry) shots but to capture the empty streets of Glasgow along with the surreal feeling of a bustling city in lockdown.  This was achievable as previously mentioned I could wander about without the police stopping me.  Having said that I did find this an anxious experience, I knew I wasn’t doing anything against the law but when there is a police presence I felt sure that I would be stopped.  Thankfully I wasn’t as I captured images that produced a feeling of sadness.  My project has went from Fine Art to Documentary Photography, a genre that hasn’t necessarily interested me.  Having said that I did enjoy this, it was exciting (not because of the Police) I was documenting how the Covid crisis has had an effect of Glasgow City Centre and every city across the world.  There were one or two people in a couple of my final shots but for me that adds to the desertedness of the city.
Tumblr media
This shot of the entrance at Buchanan Subway is one I like because of the symmetry of the escalators and lights. The eyes follow the lights. This image begins to tell the quietness of a city.
Tumblr media
I took this image initially for the shot of the ambulance then when I looked back at my contact sheets I noticed the young man walking across the street.  No other traffic but an ambulance, no other people apart from the young man.
Tumblr media
I like the perspective of this image, again an empty street (Hutchison Street).  There is darkness in the foreground with the trees and shadows but if you keep looking there is light, optimism.
Tumblr media
This image of the entrance to the footbridge, I like simply because of the bright colours and again it documents the impact of the virus on people’s daily lives, gates that a normally open to the public are now closed. after looking at this image again, i think if i had stepped to the left slightly, the image would have a more vertical symmetry appeal.
Tumblr media
Kelvin Way is normally a busy road for traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.  On that day, as with other days, there was a police presence in Kelvingrove Park. This particular road was closed off at either end.  I specifically took this shot for the perspective of the road and the police van.
Tumblr media
North Hanover Street, deserted, normally busy with cars and buses. There is an air of doom and gloom in this shot with the help of the dark clouds.
Tumblr media
St Enoch Subway, only sign of life there were 3 pigeons.  Aside from the pigeons this works from a vertical symmetry point of view and of course the fact that the place is deserted at 6.30pm.
Tumblr media
Portman Street Suspension Bridge, I love the perspective/symmetry of this shot. Plus I managed to take this shot with no one on the bridge.
Tumblr media
To get this shot I had to stand in the middle of the road, this is looking up towards Cathedral Street.  I like the fact that I have captured the ‘no entry’ painted on the road. Some’s up the situation at present.
Tumblr media
I took this image on Buchanan Street, again to illustrate the emptiness of the city.  There is only one person standing at St Enoch centre in that entire vicinity.
Tumblr media
Glasgow Green, there were cyclists, joggers and dog walkers going about their way but I managed to take this shot with no one in it. I like this image as there is a focal point, the Glasgow Commonwealth Statue), the eyes are drawn to it with the help of the trees at either side.
Of course, I complied a workbook detailing everything I had shot on each day, any changes to original idea, further research, contact sheets, my thoughts on each.  Similar to a journal.  This was a big piece of work in itself, I actually found this more daunting than the photoshoots as I do not consider my self to be artistic/creative.  As daunting as it was, the workbook was a therapeutic process and reflecting on the day’s work enabled me to explore other ideas.  When completing the workbook and looking at the contact sheets I could see my mistakes which made me critical of my work, this wasn’t a bad thing as it gave me the push to do better the next day.  This could be considered a positive.  Another positive aspect in the project was the Plan.  More so the feedback I received.  This gave me the confidence and the boost to start.  My biggest downfall my research or rather lack of research.  However, for the purposes of my Plan, research was a requirement and in doing so gave me the drive and excitement for my Graded Unit. Areas than have been successful?  The fact that I have found a new genre of photography that I like, this too is a positive.  I do like street photography, but this was different, hardly a soul to be seen, hardly traffic to be heard.  This made me look at Glasgow in a different way
With everything there are always opportunities for improvement and photography is no exception.  The main area I feel I need to improve on is retouching (Photoshop) I can do the basics, adjusting black, whites, shadows etc in Lightroom.  A tool I did come across was a tool called Transform which fixes any perspective distortion.  That came in handy when the image didn’t quite look level. I try to avoid Photoshop as much as possible as layer masks and the like confuse me.  Therefore, I use either Lightroom or Bridge.  Another area of improvement is composition, I always thought I had that covered.  I started using 3x3 (in camera) rule of thirds to see if that would help.  It did but I don’t want to use that tool.  The issue with composition was brought to my attention my lecturer, I would maybe have to much sky or road in my shots. Fortunately, I can easily work on that. For me, the big issue is retouching.
 CONCLUSION
I feel that I cannot properly write this evaluation without bringing in the impact of the Covid – 19 virus.  This didn’t have an impact on me in that I had to re-think my Graded Unit. I could still go outside; I wasn’t relying on college equipment such as studio lights, cameras, tripods.  I knew from the very beginning my photography would be completed outside.  The impact on me was my mental health, more so motivation to do the work.  Everything was up in the air. But I did it, got out the house with my camera and got on with it.
I was lucky, the only change I made was what I was going to shoot and where.  It was going to be city based not based amongst nature.  The main emphasis would be the surreal loneliness of a once busy city. As I have a car, I had no issues with getting to locations.  As mentioned above, there was a police presence in the city centre and as such felt rushed into taking the shots, this may have contributed to some poor quality images that I took and the fact that the tripod I used was not very sturdy for the camera (Nikon D7100 and Canon 700d).  To combat this I started using my monopod and mirrorless cameras (Canon m100 and Sony a6000). I also purchased a sturdier tripod which is yet to be used.
Some of the time I felt I was taking photographs just for the sake of taking an image, just to have something to show and in doing that would maybe only have one or two images I was happy with. Some days I would have nothing but rubbish shots but determination/learning/growth come from failures.  The rubbish days gave me the push to do more and not give up.  The big lesson there was and is not to give up and believe I can do this.  That is another area that is in need of improvement, my self-belief in my photography. When I’m not under pressure I can produce good shots but when I am feeling the pressure my nerve goes, I don’t feel confident.  Now that that I have completed my Graded Unit I feel a sense of achievement as this was a big and important project.  This was achieved in strange and difficult times.  I can learn much from this experience for when I go into year 2 of my HND. Buy a bigger workbook, do more research, learn more about Photoshop and most of all believe in my ability as a photographer.

Are we seeing the end of 5-on-5 Olympic basketball?
Tumblr media
Read the tea leaves, and the trend is clear: the Olympic 5-on-5 tournament is slowly being phased out.
There have been rumors that Olympic five-on-five basketball is being slowly phased out. European national team officials have been fanning the flames of whisper. The evidence might be hiding in plain sight, though.
First, there’s the fact that FIBA (the international governing body for basketball) and the IOC (the Olympics’ governing body) have added 3-on-3 basketball to the mix despite no apparent grassroots drive for the sport. None of the top basketball players in the world (except Joe Johnson, perhaps) are playing competitive 3-on-3. The biggest 3-on-3 league in the world is run by Ice Cube and features retired NBA players. There is no huge international 3-on-3 league, there is no women’s 3-on-3 movement, there is no college 3-on-3 competition. This is a sport no one really asked to have.
Yet there will be medals awarded for 3-on-3 basketball in the 2020 Olympics.
Did you know the United States won the men’s 3x3 basketball World Cup — FIBA calls it 3x3, so we will too — earlier this summer? They did. The players for the gold-medal winning Team USA? Canyon Barry (younger brother of Brent and Jon, son of Rick, noted granny-style free throw shooter, G League mainstay), Damon Huffman (he’s 34 and went to Brown), Robbie Hummel (who was on Purdue’s roster for like a decade about a decade ago), and Kareem Maddox (Princeton product whose day job is podcast producer).
This is the best men’s 3x3 team in the world, and is on track to compete to win the same gold medal that James Harden, Kemba Walker, and Anthony Davis are hoping to win in 5-on-5.
The situation is even more circumspect on the women’s side. The United States, the dominant power in women’s basketball, with the lioness’ share of the best players in the world, didn’t even have a team in the 2019 World Cup. In fact, there wasn’t a single team from the Western Hemisphere! China won. The MVP of the Chinese team does play 5-on-5 professionally in China, which is something you can’t say for any of the top players on the men’s side.
The first FIBA 3x3 World Cup was held in 2012, confirming that this has been a quick rise for the sport. The question is why. Why has FIBA pushed 3x3 so vigorously? Why is IOC on board? And what will happen to 5-on-5 basketball as a result?
It’s no secret that FIBA has long sought to make the World Cup the centerpiece tournament of global 5-on-5 basketball. It is considered the premier tournament for much of the world, but that’s never been the case in the United States.
FIBA has in recent years expanded the field to 32 teams and changed the schedule so that it is now in the summer preceding the Olympics, not midway between Olympiads. FIBA has also changed qualification processes to de-emphasize continental tournaments in off-years. (That’s been a real disaster, as none of the major professional leagues are creating breaks in their calendars on FIBA’s behalf.)
Why would FIBA prefer the World Cup to be the more important event? Well, FIBA controls the World Cup, and that means profit. It doesn’t control the Olympics: the IOC controls the profits from broadcast deals around the Olympic tournament, whereas FIBA controls the revenue from World Cup broadcasting and sponsorship.
That might explain why the Olympic tournament is shrinking at the same time as FIBA is growing the World Cup in size. Five-on-five teams will play fewer games than usual in the 2020 Olympics (three group stage games and a maximum of three knockout games for six total, as opposed to the previous eight games). That’s two fewer games for the IOC’s global broadcast partners to show NBA superstars playing basketball in between sponsor breaks.
Why the change? There are rumors the decrease was to make space for the 3x3 tournament.
Right. To make space for the tournament for which no one knows any players and for which there is no grassroots demand. Fewer appearances for NBA superstars, more for former members of the All-Ivy League team and one of Rick Barry’s non-NBA sons. (No offense to any of those guys, but they are not James Harden and Kemba Walker.)
You can understand why rumors of the doom of the 5-on-5 Olympic tournaments are taking flight. Frankly, maybe that’s for the best. NBA stars seem to be losing interest in international competition. The women’s side isn’t so bleak — the top players still want to play over there — but the American dominance in both tournaments is thoroughly established. The United States women have won eight of 10 Olympic tournaments. The men have won six of the last seven. If this were a natural fade for 5-on-5 basketball at the global level, maybe it would feel fine.
The fact that FIBA seems to be pulling the levers to suit its own purpose is what makes all of this seem unseemly and gross. Whose interest is being served here?

My Day In Sports 10/3/19
FANTASY:
I’ll come out and say this now.  I can’t stand Thursday Night Football.  Even if the game is good, like it was last night, it is damn near impossible to get a reasonable gauge of how a player is going to play on a short week.  Even with years of data I still cannot find consistency on the NFL’s weekly opener.  Maybe I just suck, but I digress.
Both my opponent and I had one player going…

Summer is coming...
For all your Game of Thrones fans... you know the school year is coming to the close... Summer is coming, and you might need to prepare for the “Bright Walkers”.... For parents, June being 1/2 way over means their children will be home for Summer Vacation... for more than 2 long months. This is a great opportunity to get your child involved in a new hobby and I have suggested cubing to many parents. In addition to this suggestion I always mention some items you to get your kid started off in the right direction.
The first and most important thing I can list is any tutorial for one of these puzzles can be found on YouTube. From beginner to advance... YouTube is the right place to go.

The second thing I mention is Lube. Any puzzle will operate better with lube and I feel the best lube for a beginner is Cubicle Silk. It is a silicone based used and you just need to pull at the cube a bit, put two drops in, and start turning.

The next thing I would suggest is puzzles. I think every cuber should start off with cheaper budget puzzles, but they should still have some quality to them. Recently there has been a "Boom" in the budget market where companies are putting out cheap cubes that could have been the best mains 4 years ago.
***Copy and past these puzzles into the search bar when you get to the site.
Starter Pack I think every new cuber should start with the Standard 3x3, 2x2, and Pyraminx. You could also skip getting the 2x2, but it is a good starter puzzle.
2x2: YJ YUPO 2X2 V2 M, QIYI MS 2X2 3x3: MFJS MEILONG 3X3 M, YJ YULONG V2 M, QIYI MS 3X3 Pyraminx: YJ YULONG PYRAMINX V2 M, QIYI MS PYRAMINX
Expansion Pack If the kid is still interested invest in a 4x4, 5x5, and Megaminx 4x4: MFJS MEILONG 4X4 M, QIYI MS 4X4, YJ YUSU 4X4 V2 M, YUXIN LITTLE MAGIC 4X4 M 5x5: MFJS MEILONG 5X5 M, QIYI MS 5X5, YJ YUCHUANG 5X5 V2 M, YUXIN LITTLE MAGIC 5X5 M Megaminx: YJ YUHU MEGAMINX V2 M
I would also suggest getting a cubing bag for all these puzzles, but you could also just throw them in a shoe box...
MOYU CUBING BAG: https://www.thecubicle.com/…/appar…/products/moyu-cubing-bag
I hope this was helpful to everyone. Hopefully it will be enough to keep those kids out of trouble... and if it seems like they are getting bored with it, give them an insensitive to completing a puzzle or getting a specific time.Spend less than 50 dollars to keep your kids busy for 2 month or maybe even create a brand new hobby for them that is save and affordable with a good community behind it.
