Just About To Give Up
It's been 15 months since we lost our home. During that time, I have put in a multitude of applications to various low-income housing developments and a slew of public housing sites in 6 different states.
I applied for Delaware Public Housing Authority almost 2 years ago. I have not heard a thing since other than three sites that contacted me to make sure I was still interested in housing. Each of those three sites was out of state.
I have contacted the Salvation Army, Welfare, Social Services, Delaware 2-1-1, Hope Center, Hope House, Lutheran Ministries, Catholic Social Services, Neighborhood House, Children & Families First, First State Community Action Center, etc. The list is long.
Welfare put us up in a cheap motel (roaches included) for a month. This fell under the Covid benefits. Unfortunately, those benefits ended which left us where we started, living in the van.
The other places all gave me relatively the same answer. They don't help with finding housing for people or they cannot financially help. The Salvation Army did say that they would help pay back rent but that doesn't do us any good since we would need to have an apartment to rent to get back on the rent. They also said that they may help with security deposits if we found a place.
We reached out to every homeless shelter in the area and were told the same things by each of them. Since I am physically disabled, they cannot allow me to go into their shelters. They do not have the zoning for that and I am an insurance risk. I even told my family to go stay in the shelter and that I would stay in the van. They refused.
During all of this, I have been paying for 2 storage units that contain all of our belongings including furniture, clothing, appliance, and everything from our house. The two units are very expensive and I am on a fixed income due to my disability.
Now, due to the fact that the storage facility changed owners, the rent is higher, and I cannot afford it. We are now behind and are in danger of losing what we have left.
But that's not the worst of it. Our van is breaking down. The power steering is going. Brakes, motor mount, shocks/struts, water pump, etc. The list continues to grow. Dave was a mechanic for years and could do the work as long as someone helps him. It's cheaper than putting the van in the shop. The problem is that we just don't have the money to buy the parts needed.
Our daughter's 16th birthday is in just 16 days, and we have no money to do anything special for her. This is a big milestone for her. She is in driver's ed and will be going for her license soon. I cannot even celebrate her special day and spoil her. This makes me feel like a failure. I sent her to stay with a family so she wouldn't have to deal with being homeless, but she is still affected by it.
We keep getting hit while we are down, and I don't know how much more we can take. I have a Go Fund Me set up to help mitigate costs but it takes so long for the money to go through. I also have Cash App, Venmo, and PayPal which are quicker.
Please donate and share. Our backs are against the wall. The van is barely hanging on and we desperately need it.

Nourishing Communities The Impact of Summer Food Programs
As the scorching heat of summer settles in, many families face a challenge beyond the sweltering temperatures: ensuring their children have access to nutritious meals. For millions of children who rely on school meals during the academic year, the summer break presents a gap in this vital source of nutrition. However, summer food programs have emerged as a beacon of hope, bridging this gap and nourishing communities across the nation.
Tumblr media
Summer food programs, often operated by local governments, community organizations, or school districts, offer free meals to children during the summer months. These programs typically provide breakfast, lunch, snacks, or a combination thereof, served at designated sites such as schools, parks, community centers, or mobile vans. The aim is to reach children in underserved areas, where food insecurity is prevalent, and ensure they receive nutritious meals even when school is out.
One of the primary benefits of summer food programs is combating food insecurity among children. According to the USDA, food insecurity affects millions of households in the United States, with children being particularly vulnerable. Summer food programs play a crucial role in alleviating hunger during the summer break, ensuring that children have access to balanced meals regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
Moreover, these programs promote overall health and well-being by offering nutritious meals that include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. By providing essential nutrients, summer food programs contribute to children's physical and cognitive development, supporting their growth and learning throughout the summer months.
Beyond addressing immediate nutritional needs, summer food programs foster community engagement and support. Volunteers, often from within the community, play a vital role in distributing meals, organizing activities, and creating a welcoming environment for children and families. This sense of community involvement not only strengthens social ties but also empowers residents to take an active role in addressing food insecurity and promoting child welfare.
Additionally, summer food programs often incorporate educational components, such as nutrition workshops or cooking demonstrations, to promote healthy eating habits and food literacy among participants. By combining meals with educational opportunities, these programs equip children and families with the knowledge and skills needed to make healthier food choices year-round.
Despite their numerous benefits, summer food programs face challenges such as funding constraints, limited outreach, and logistical hurdles in reaching remote or rural areas. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts among policymakers, community organizations, and volunteers to expand program accessibility and effectiveness.
Summer food programs play a vital role in ensuring that children have access to nutritious meals during the summer break, combating food insecurity, promoting health and well-being, fostering community engagement, and empowering families with valuable resources and knowledge. By supporting and expanding these programs, we can nourish communities and create a brighter future for all children.

Unit 9: Understanding the Interconnectedness of Nature
Nature is a complex system that holds countless different organisms within its boundaries. At first glance, it may seem challenging to grasp that each organism influences one another. Yet, from the smallest microorganism to the fiercest predator, every organism plays a critical role in maintaining the complex balance of ecosystems. Unfortunately, anthropomorphism often dictates the types of species that receive more attention and conservation efforts from humans. Anthropomorphism is humans' tendency to attribute human-like qualities to animals, especially those that resemble us or demonstrate behaviours we identify as familiar or charming (Mota-Roja et al., 2021). For example, larger animals can evoke a sense of awe, while attractive animals may evoke feelings of empathy and connection. However, despite the size of an organism or its perceived significance, every organism plays a vital role in the interconnectedness of an ecosystem. In this blog post, I will be discussing the importance of every organism in an ecosystem and exploring their interactions to define the reliance and stability found in nature.
Ecosystems are complex networks of interactions between living organisms and their physical environments (Bogers, Sims & West, 2019). At the centre of every ecosystem lies a web of interconnected relationships where plants, animals, and microorganisms co-exist, depending on one another for survival. Chantal van Ham (2018) discusses this concept in her article "In the Spirit of Nature, Everything Is Connected." She outlines how soil is a perfect example of the interconnectedness of nature. Within soil, organic matter like decomposed plant and animal remains holds more carbon than plants and the atmosphere combined. Additionally, soil is the home of countless organisms. It's shocking to realize that just a single teaspoon of healthy soil may hold more organisms (bacteria and fungi) than individuals on Earth (Natural Resources Conservation Service, n.d.). Although improving it could address numerous ongoing challenges in related fields, soil management receives little to no attention (van Ham, 2018).
I believe it's important we start looking at conservation from an ecosystem-level approach. Most past and present efforts to preserve biological diversity have focused on a species, a subspecies, or a population (Franklin, 1993). While addressing visual concerns at the species level can be effective, the underlying issue causing the species' impact often remains unnoticed and unresolved. Additionally, a species-level approach can be costly and timely; there are simply too many species to manage every species at risk effectively. An ecosystem-level conservation approach considers the interactions between numerous species within an ecosystem. Trying to preserve the entire ecosystem helps protect not just one species but all the species that depend on that ecosystem for survival. Healthy ecosystems are stable, dynamic and resilient. By conserving an ecosystem, we also increase their resilience to future environmental changes. This resilience will be essential in the coming years for protection against factors such as climate change and invasive species. Overall, by recognizing the interconnectedness of nature, we can better manage the complex challenges facing species and ensure their continued health and resilience for future generations.

Customer review
I am a mechanic. I have chronically dry skin on my hands due to frequent washing, chemical exposure, and of course the rough nature of the job I perform. It gets particularly bad during the winter months. I get “splits” in the skin of my fingertips all the time, and they are excruciating as I work. These breaks in the skin are tiny and usually right at the edge of the fingernail. They are excruciating, and I HAVE to work with my fingers….so for years I have remedied the “splits” by using superglue and sometimes fingertip bandages so I could get through my work with less pain. I’ve tried all types of hand creams, salves, ointments, fairy-dusts…….nothing even came close to helping. A physician recommended this hand cream to me and OMG does it work! It really, really, really improves the quality of my skin and I seldom get cracked fingertips anymore. I keep a tube by the sink, by my bed, in my van, and by my laptop. It’s been a game-changing discovery and my quality of life is sooooo much better without the pain of split fingers! It’s not at all greasy and does not impede my grip, or make surfaces messy. Has almost no aroma, and a tube lasts me a good amount of time. I can’t see myself ever not buying this and I doubt you will regret it if you make this purchase. This is the VERY BEST hand cream available and a great solution for my issue.

Besides, government and non-government hospitals and organisations also need a great number of top ambulances. A reputed medical ambulance manufacturer in Dubai can be a real aid in understanding all about ambulance conversion and its cost.
Tumblr media
When we think of an ambulance, the picture we get on our mind is simply a medically equipped vehicle for patient transportation with stretchers and other required machines. Any vehicle that can transport patients and treat them during transport is considered an ambulance. But to save the precious lives of patients a mere ambulance is not enough. A basic ambulance or the vehicle used for patient transportation may not have veteran clinicians to aid emergency care. There are many types of ambulances available and regarded as the best option to provide emergency medical care.
When do you need an ambulance? The applicability of a well-designed ambulance service will ultimately help to save the lives of people. It might be used for mere patient transportation to the hospital or provided with an intensive life support system during transit. In short, ambulances get called out for transporting affected persons either by a medical emergency or sickness. Apart from treating the afflicted patients, in some cases, it is also used to take the emergency crew to reach their destinations. When people get emergency care using an ambulance they probably do not need any hospitalization.

Basic Life Support Ambulances
Basic life support ambulances are standard ambulances which will have mediocre amenities to assist the treatment while taking the patient to the hospital. It is a good option if the injury is not that fatal or the afflicted no longer suffers from chronic pain or sickness. Like advanced life support ambulances, these are also made from different chassis by different vehicle brands and buying one will cost you differently depending on the type of vehicle brand.
Apart from this two category of ambulances, we also use a patient transport ambulance. They are also useful and can be made from any chassis such as a minibus, 4*4 vehicle or van. Different models of a vehicle brand also affect the cost of any ambulance conversion. The sturdier and facilitated the ambulance, the price will be higher.
Which vehicles are commonly used for ambulance conversion?
Toyota
Nissan
Hyundai
GMC/Chevrolet
Mercedes
Ford
Renault/Peugot
The above mentioned vehicle brands are usually used to modify ambulances. The type of vehicle brand used to convert an ambulance depends on various factors such as the client’s budget, area of operation, the type of configuration they choose, the location, after sale support and the local agent.
About us Ambulances and emergency medical units are limited resources used in many cases to aid the affected. So, getting the best ambulance to assist the care is vital. glaze defects by thepolysyndetonaddictsupportgroup
When Matt was nine years old, he would listen to his father’s heartbeat in one ear and the sound of sirens in the other, and he would feel so alone that he might as well be the man on the goddamn moon.
Maybe that’s why it was so easy for Stick. Finished, 10k words.
*** ** * ** ***
He imagines it, sometimes. Standing before the Supreme Court and arguing for his own goddamn existence. The bad scientists found him, the doctors and the government and all those people he’s awfully inconvenient for, and they say, “It’s a small sacrifice to make,” and “It’s for the public welfare,” and “He was a drain on society anyway.” They say, “Look at what he can do, at what he’s capable of, isn’t it strange if we can’t call upon his strength? He’s already sapping the strength of the rest of society, God Bless and Amen. It’s a lesser sacrifice, his freedom.”
And Matt, Matt pulls precedent out like a superhero. He cites case law and precedents and Buck v fucking Bell, and he tells the Court that they’ve learned. That they’re better. That every man has rights and dignity inherent, including Matt, and no perceived burden can take that away.
He wins, of course. He’s the next Thurgood Marshall. The decision is 9-0 and Matt walks away, freedom in hand.
The daydream ends and Matt is sitting in an apartment with mold in the ceiling and rats in the walls.
It wouldn’t go that way, of course. The court way, the part where his existence is litigated and he wins, the part where he shakes the hand of every justice on the Supreme Court. He would never make it to the courtroom steps.
A windowless van would pull up. Government agents in reflective sunglasses would step out, and isn’t it odd they’re wearing those? It’s night.
Bang. The door slams and Matt is inside.
No more Matt.
[...]
He imagined it differently. Someone finding out. Someone wanting to use him. He imagined the windowless van and government agents and grasping and screaming and pulling him away from his dad, and then a big man in a crisp suit would tell him that Matt was needed. Matt had powers and powers won wars and Matt would do that for them. Sometimes, you need a white lamb, and when the door frame safeguards the United States, what’s a little innocent blood?
And Matt, he would puff himself up, nine-and-two-fifths and so fucking smart. He’d spit in the man’s face, because that’s what a comic book hero would do. He doesn’t have a plan past that, but it certainly isn’t cooperate.
Stick says, “I’m going to make you into something great, kid.”
And Matt says, “Okay.”
So fucking smart, right?
[...]
The first time Matt realizes what Stick did, what he had turned Matt into, the things he had taken from Matt and the things Matt gave to him with open hands, he sits down on the front stoop of the church and laughs. He laughs with his back, with his lungs, deep and rumbling and rattling in his throat.
Matt had been so afraid of it for so long. Of someone finding him, finding what he could do, taking it for themselves and forcing Matt to give himself over, and the second, the second someone did--
Matt didn’t so much as protest.
He laughs harder. It’s so goddamn funny.
That’s the first time he thinks about throwing himself off someplace high.

E/R Police Command receives van to fight child trafficking
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackaah, says failure to curb child trafficking could pose a threat to society and the nation. He noted a concerted effort is needed to help address the child trafficking canker. “When victims grow up and have nothing doing, they could be a threat to society and they could be a national threat because most of them might not know what to do at certain ages of their lives. So, when you see it alert the police, alert the anti-human trafficking department or the International Justice Mission. We shall work on it and rescue them,” he said at a ceremony in Koforidua to receive a van. The van is a donation from a non-governmental organisation, International Justice Mission (IJM), to support the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in the Eastern Region to curb the menace of child and human trafficking. The International Justice Mission (IJM) is a non-governmental organisation whose mission is to help rescue child trafficking and child labour victims in the country. It has been key partners to the Ghana Police Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in the fight against the menace of child trafficking. The Director of Operations for IJM Ghana, Anita Budu, observed since 2016 fighting child labour has been a daunting task for the police due to lack of a vehicle, logistics and other resources and commended them for success chalked despite the challenge. “Since 2016, we have been working with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and the Ghana Police Service here to rescue children and so we have been able to rescue a number of children. Cases have been taken to court and also there have been convictions and so the work has really progressed with the Ghana Police Service and also the Attorney General’s office and the Department of Social Welfare.” She added: “Today we are donating a vehicle to the Ghana Police Service and it is to support their work to tackle issues of trafficking. A lot of the time, the cases are not here in Koforidua, they are in remote areas closer to the lake and so hopefully the vehicle will be able to help them be able to access these areas for investigations and also for rescuing of the children.” The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackaah, urged all stakeholders to help curb the menace. “We should all help to fight against human trafficking since it doesn’t help the society. It doesn’t help the victims, it doesn’t help the country as a whole because people are not given the chance to develop their own potentials. They may take them very young and even some of them don’t have access to school. So, it’s a challenge to all of us to speak against it.” He was elated about the intervention of the van that would help the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit reach remote areas where the child trafficking crimes are usually perpetuated. “The IJM has been in partnership with the Ghana Police Service over the years to fight human trafficking. They deem it fit to support us by way of transport because when they rescue, they have to bring the victims and send them to court as well and all this require the use of vehicle to do it so it is a great intervention for us.” Read the full article

Stephen McRea banned from owning animals after six puppies found in van at Cairnryan ferry port
A man who failed to ensure the welfare of six puppies found in a van at a ferry port in Dumfries and Galloway has been banned from owning animals for 15 years.
On Tuesday, Stephen McRea from Belfast was sentenced at Stranraer Sheriff Court after previously pleading guilty to failing to take steps to provide the puppies with food, water or a suitable place to rest while transporting them from Northern Ireland to Scotland.
As well as the ban, the 29-year-old was ordered to carry out 90 hours unpaid work and will be supervised for a year under a community payback order imposed by the court.
The court heard that on December 3, 2020, at Loch Ryan Port, Cairnryan, police stopped a grey Ford Transit Connect van being driven by McRea after it had disembarked from the P&O ferry sailing from Larne Port in Northern Ireland.
Officers noticed a strong, pungent smell of animal urine emanating from the driver’s window and when they asked McRea what he was carrying, he said that he was transporting a “couple of dogs” to a family member in Glasgow.
Police searched the van and found six collie-type puppies in a cage in the load space of the vehicle.

The six puppies were found covered in faeces and urine in the back of McRea’s van. Email
The puppies were covered in faeces and urine and the floor of the load space was covered in sawdust, which also had traces of dried faeces.
Officers found no food or water within the cage or elsewhere in the vehicle.
The puppies were removed from the van before being handed over to the Scottish SPCA to be examined by veterinary staff.
The puppies were all found to be underweight or very thin and the entire litter tested positive for the Parvo virus antigen. Three of the puppies subsequently died.
Following McRea’s sentencing Karon Rollo, head of the wildlife and environmental crime unit of COPFS said: “I welcome the conviction and sentence in this case.
“Stephen McRea’s failure to meeting the most basic needs of these puppies and provide a suitable environment for them while they were his responsibility is wholly unacceptable.
“We are committed to tackling this type of offending and will continue to work with the Scottish SPCA and Police Scotland to ensure that those who commit such crimes face prosecutorial action.”

If we criminalized spreading COVID-19 the way Vietnam has, Donald Trump would probably be in prison for the next 500 years.
People who spread deadly diseases are essentially guilty of attempted manslaughter.
A Vietnamese man has been sentenced to jail for five years for flouting Covid-19 rules and spreading the virus.
A court found Le Van Tri guilty of "transmitting dangerous infectious diseases" to eight people, one of whom eventually died.
[ ... ]
In early July, Tri, 28, had reportedly travelled by motorcycle from Ho Chi Minh City to his home province Ca Mau in the south of the country.
At Ca Mau, Tri was found to have lied on a health declaration form which asked about his recent travel history, and also failed to comply with isolation rules.
Local authorities at the time had made it mandatory that anyone travelling from other provinces into Ca Mau had to immediately isolate themselves for 21 days.
Tri later tested positive for Covid, and was found to have transmitted the virus to members of his family as well as staff at a welfare centre which he visited.
Tri was sentenced to jail at the end of a one-day trial, and was also fined the equivalent of $880 (£630).
Those who spread the virus in the United States should at least be sued for the cost of treating the victims they transmitted the disease to.

CAMERA is calling on PBS to investigate "Til Kingdom Come," an upcoming documentary on the relationship between evangelical Christians and Israel that will be broadcast on March 29 over concerns regarding quotes that the watchdog groups say may be fabricated or in error.
After comparing the documentary's video and audio content, it found that the filmmakers had cobbled together wording from statements made on Jan. 28, 2020, by former President Donald Trump to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It pointed to three different instances of the president's prepared comments with a spliced-together quote that contradicts the overall focus of his remarks.
The film also transformed an expression of hope conveyed in a passage about Jews, Christians and Muslims visiting holy sites "in the West Bank described so vividly in the Bible" into a phrase suggesting Israeli takeover of land.
"The manipulation is indefensible," said CAMERA's executive director, Andrea Levin. "Altering a presidential statement to misrepresent the content of a key policy address is obviously a blatant violation of journalistic ethics. It appears the filmmakers felt the measured language of the actual quote was insufficient to reinforce their storyline so they spliced together separate and different passages to create a more extreme – and false – message. The alteration clearly will deceive viewers."
The Jan. 28 event was the public announcement of a presidential peace plan that focused heavily on the creation of a Palestinian state and benefits to Palestinians through revived negotiations and independence. "There is, however, no hint in the documentary that a Palestinian state was extensively discussed in the session," according to CAMERA.
"Manipulation of the quote calls into question the veracity and credibility of every interview and assertion in the video," added Levin. "PBS needs to vet the documentary very closely. What other interviews have been altered to promote the filmmakers' political perspective? Obviously, the fabricated quote must be removed from the documentary before it's aired – and anything else that's fraudulent."
The documentary, released last year, was produced and directed by Grammy Award-winning Maya Zinshtein. It was included in numerous film festivals in the past few months.
"Not only does the fabrication demonstrate a breach of trust with the audience, it reveals contempt for the other people interviewed in the film," said Dexter Van Zile, Shillman Research Fellow for CAMERA, who also denounced allowing Palestinian Christian leader Munther Isaac to posit an equivalence between biblically rooted support for Israel and jihadism.
Rev. Dr. Tricia Miller, Christian Media Analyst for CAMERA, said that "Zinshtein's film uses a fabricated quote to advance a hackneyed, biased and ugly view of gun-toting evangelical Protestants supposedly engaging in an 'unholy alliance' with Israelis living in the West Bank to advance an anti-peace agenda in the Holy Land aimed at bringing on Armageddon at the expense of the Jewish people."
She noted that "the need to fabricate and distort suggests the narrative doesn't hold up very well relying on facts. Christian Zionists in the United States have been devoted and reliable supporters of the cause of Zionism since the 1800s, exhibiting genuine concern for the welfare of the Jewish people."
