ICYMI: Tumblr corrupted our full trailer upload, so here it is again! The new trailer for Tea Party of the Damned.
Many of you have followed the game since its inception, back here on Tumblr in 2013, but there are lots of new followers on here too, so I'll start from the beginning.
Myself (Lou) and my friend Joe decided to get into making games. We started as you absolutely shouldn't: by making our dream project. This eventually grew into the 1920s, Lovecraftian RPG in a platformer: Witchmarsh.
Well, fast forward 11 years and we're still making it. Only, we've decided to break the deadlock by releasing something shorter first: and here it is!
Tea Party of the Damned is the short prelude to Witchmarsh. It will be about 10-13 hours long, and will act as a stepping stone to realizing the full Witchmarsh dream.
Anyway, here's the new trailer for it. Hope you like it!
P.S. if you'd like to support the game, the best thing you could do right now is Wishlist us on Steam. You could also tell your friends about the page, too. Thanks for all the help!

portrait art for the manifesto rpg thing
these were mostly intended to be placeholder doodles but i do think they have a lot of charm. im a freak who was really into reading the chucklefish game development blogs they used to post like literally all of them since the first ever posts about starbound. and what that means for me is that i like would like every 6 months as a middle schooler from literally the day it was announced chucklefish was working to publish stardew valley i would like obsessively check for updates on stardew valley. i remember anecdotally telling my friend with like exasperated enthusiasm on the playground behind my middle school chorus room in 7th grade that starbound was going to be a video game where there was an infinite number of animals AND guns. and then subsequently explaining what harvest moon was to my friend so that i could explain why i was excited about stardew valley. despite the fact that i had never played harvest moon. it was auxiliary to my enthusiasm for the idea of an infinite, space version of minecraft. and so anyway as a result i developed from my like 12 year old youth a very deep fascination with the placeholder portrait and video game graphics of guys trying to make video games. thats the point of this blog post. you like it. i still check to see if witchmarsh is coming out every couple months. i checked like a couple weeks ago.

Screenshot Saturday Featuring There Is No Light, GigaBash, More
Still, there’s always a notable selection of gems to discover courtesy of developers showcasing bits of their latest work, and thus we still have one more impressive showcase to provide before heading off. So enjoy, and we’ll see you all after PAX East!
Have a look!

Top 10 of 10 years of Retronator
The 10th anniversary of Retronator (the blog) is coming up tomorrow!!! I’ll write a special post for the occasion then, but I thought it’d be interesting to see the most liked and reblogged posts I published on Retronator over these 10 years.
1. The United Pixels of America: 8-bit Map of the USA
January 2019, 18k notes
Compared to other top 10 posts that have been gathering notes for half a decade already, the feature of Danc3r’s detailed, animated map of the United States is pretty much a baby. Still, Tumblr did what Tumblr does best and showed that even in the post-NSFW-apocalypse years of 2019/2020, there are plenty of fans of gaming, art, and pixels (and USA) alive on the site.
Tumblr media
2. Paul Robertson artist feature
October 2014, 17k notes
Speaking of the NSFW apocalypse, the feature of @probertson’s work didn’t make it past the nude filters. Even though nudity in art is allowed on tumblr and they’ve been very good at restoring wrongly tagged posts in the past, Paul’s boobies-filled artworks somehow didn’t get approved. So yeah, no link for this post.
Tumblr media
3. No Bullshit Pixel Art Tutorial
March 2014, 14k notes
This tutorial tried to condense all the basics of how to get started with pixel art into just 7 images (and seven accompanying 10 sec videos). I later extended it into the Getting Started Guide and eventually turned into gameplay of my game Pixel Art Academy.
Tumblr media
4. Fool artist feature
March 2015, 13k notes
There were times when Fool a.k.a. Yuriy Gusev didn’t need an introduction on the pixel art scene. But it’s not the 2000s anymore, so to all of you who haven’t come across his work yet, he’s one of the very best pixel artists of all time, period. Well worth exploring his work.
Tumblr media
5. Waneella artist feature
July 2015, 12k notes
I wrote a longer article about @waneella to accompany this post in Retronator Magazine, where I covered her journey from spaghetti-legs Lost Vikings to emerging themes of city skylines that hinted at the magnificent urban illustrations we know Waneella by today.
Tumblr media
6. Amplitude Problem
May 2015, 11k notes
@valenberg is well known for his cyberpunk pixel arts and the GIFs he did for YouTube videos of musician Amplitude Problem lended well to the GIF-loving Tumblr crowd. Just recently, Valenberg’s game VirtuaVerse came out, so definitely check that out.
Tumblr media
7. Witchmarsh
May 2014, 9k notes
I posted about many pixel art games on this blog and the one that was shared the most was Inglenook’s @witchmarsh. It’s now been 6 years since its Kickstarter and we’re still patiently waiting for our beloved 1920s jazz-era RPG. Good things are worth waiting for! Also, their tumblr devlog is still actively updated, so good job guys.
Tumblr media
8. The Last Night
October 2014, 7k notes
Second (and final) game on this list is The Last Night, the winning entry for the CyberPunkJam, made by brothers @timsoret and @adrien-soret. You might have heard about it … Well, at least the full game that went into development following the prototype’s very positive reception. Seeing the old GIFs now, it’s just crazy to think how far the art direction has been advanced (and I’m sure we haven’t seen anything yet as even the trailer is 3 years old by now).
Tumblr media
9. Rocks
May 2017, 6k notes
Finally another post that’s not from what seems to be the 2014–2015 golden area of this blog. People like rocks, I guess, and the trio of tutorials—including one from the incredibly popular Pedro Medeiros of @studiominiboss—served some good knowledge on the topic.
Tumblr media
10. Vierbit artist feature
February 2014, 6k notes
This is the post that started the whole Artist Feature series, so I guess I have Vierbit’s insanely gorgeous art style to blame for inspiring me to start actively posting about other artists on the blog. From that point on Retronator became less my personal portfolio/brainfart diary and more the journalistic-pixel-art-newspaper that it aspires to be today.
Tumblr media
There you have it, the tip of the iceberg of 1,700 total posts from 10 years of Retronator.
Now excuse me while I go make some (pixel) cake for tomorrow.

Today I think I will write a new spell for D&D 5e.
WITCHMARSH
2nd level transmutation spell
Casting time: 1 action
Range: 15 foot radius centered on caster
Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material (a small vessel of water)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
The acrid smell of bogwater fills the air as the ground beneath the caster's feet becomes saturated, turning to mud. Creates a zone of magical rough terrain in a 15 foot radius centered on the caster's location. When upcast to 3rd level or higher the radius is increased by 5 feet per spell level, which increases to 10 feet per level at 8th level or higher. As long as concentration is maintained the rough terrain remains magical and the caster is able to move through it without penalty or triggering attacks of opportunity. When concentration is lost the area remains as rough terrain for 1 minute, but is no longer considered magical rough terrain and the caster can no longer move through it without penalty or triggering attacks of opportunity.
Classes: Cleric, Druid, Ranger, Wizard
Subclasses: Eldritch Knight Fighter, Ancients Paladin, Redemption Paladin, Arcane Trickster Rogue.
This spell is not taught or learned by traditional magic casters, but must be learned from a witch or witch-like person or creature which possesses knowledge of it. Players seeking to learn Witchmarsh may pursue good relations with a witch or coven in the hopes of being taught the spell, or it may be found in written form in a spellbook or scroll belonging to a witch if good relations are not possible or desired.

Leer noticia completa y comentarios » from ElOtroLado.net http://ift.tt/2GmDYEK via IFTTT

Top 10 Retronator Posts
I was playing with the Tumblr API a little bit and transferred all the blog posts into my Pixel Art Academy database (one step closer to finally making my blog theme a real text adventure).
Anyway, I can now search my posts in the database and one thing I always like to do is see which (original) posts are the most popular. Without further ado:
1. Artist Feature: Paul Robertson (17182 notes)
Tumblr media
No wonder, @probertson is Tumblr’s darling pixel artist with a signature style and a love of psychedelic GIFs that feels right at home on this (re)blog platform.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. No Bullshit Pixel Art Tutorial (13797 notes)
Tumblr media
My own tutorial, holy shit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most people don’t know this, but these were supposed to be slides that go together with a video. I made the video, but never really released it, except as part of a study I’ve done for Pixel Art Academy, called the Getting Started Guide. The video itself isn’t really as good as I hoped it would be, but I might reuse its content one day. Here it is, btw:
youtube
3. Artist Feature: Fool ( 13267notes)
Tumblr media
Fool is one of the most known and respected artists in the classic pixel art community. His art speaks for itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Artist Feature: Waneella (11417 notes)
Tumblr media
@waneella is a personal favorite of mine and represents what I (for now) call New Wave pixel art that started somewhere in 2011 after Superbrothers shook up the genre aesthetics with Sword & Sworcery. Gone were days of eBoy’s happy isometric pieces and norms of traditional art, in came spaghetti legs, desolate, flat landscapes, and manga/anime influences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Valenberg’s animations for Amplitude Problem (10973 notes)
Tumblr media
@valenberg is another artist I follow closely. He represents a subgenre of pixel art I call Purple Cyberpunk. (note to self: I really need to create two things: A) a complete history of pixel art, and B) a map of pixel art styles/genres.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Witchmarsh (8522 notes)
Tumblr media
This game is just so gorgeous, I cannot not put three screenshots of it down below. @witchmarsh’s developers Inglenook make my tiny blog feel like a real press establishment since (thanks to my posts about the game that spread fairly wide) they even put me as special thanks on their website.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. The Last Night (6491 notes)
Tumblr media
The Last Night is easily the pixel art game I anticipate the most. I don’t care if I give up on gaming and writing about games with shooting by the time it comes out, I’m definitely giving this one a word. The images below come from the prototype for the game (well, a jam game that got so popular it became the catalyst for a full-fledged release that will start a new era of pixel art just like Sworcery did.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. Artist Feature: Vierbit (5497 notes)
Tumblr media
Vierbit was the very first artist I featured in this format. The initial popularity of the post (which brings it to this list today) spawned a big series of features, some of which you’ve seen in posts above.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9. Curses ‘n Chaos (5282 notes)
Tumblr media
The third of the three games in this top 10 goes to one of @tributegames’  signature pixel art masterworks, as illustrated by studio’s lead artist @jgsboutain. I got nothing but love for these guys, even though I completely suck at playing their games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. Space Invaders part of Tribute poster (5173 notes)
Tumblr media
Well, it looks we’re ending the list on an artwork of my own. I guess if this wasn’t here, I’d have a hard time calling Retronator my art blog. Sure, the features now take more than 90% of the content, but I still like the idea that I can plot some pixels down here on my own.
When I released Tribute on tumblr, it got some views, but nothing like when I posted this small crop of it. Thanks to people over at @it8bit, it got featured on Tumblr Radar, which I’d imagine is still a big thing today. Back then, it lead to my first 1,000 followers (if I remember correctly).
This is how the Tumblr reblog machine looks visualized, on an example of recently popular post about rocks (1868 notes):
Tumblr media
The yellow dot is my blog and all the circles tightly next to it are you guys who follow my blog and reblog directly from me. Everyone else is part of the bigger Tumblr network, further down the reblog chain.
This example shows how a few tiny reblogs can lead to a friend of a friend of someone with thousands of followers, generating an explosion of posts 4 or 7 reblogs deep.
Nothing embodies sharing is caring more than Tumblr. Thanks for hanging around guys!
