Eve teasing is closely related to the patriarchal mindset of the Indian male!

Men are raised to believe that they are more powerful physically and emotionally than women. They feel that they are doing nothing wrong by having "some fun".

In India, eve teasing affects every woman who dares to come out of her home, in some form or the other. It can be noticed in all places like beaches, roads, cinema halls, buses, and even in Educational institutions.

Teachers of psychology and social scientists believe eve teasing to be a result of the frustrations suffered by a majority of youth. They yearn for an outlet to VENT their aggression and depression.

It may appear paradoxical that in a country like India where the mother is generally deified, the growing male child does not learn to respect the members of his mother's gender.

But it is because of this deification that the boy finds it easy to slip into the patriarchal mode, for he does not relate to his mother as a woman, but as a helpless and martyred dependent who needs to be pitied and cared for.

All we can say is being a woman has its own challenges, let’s make this society a better and safer place for them to live in!

Slow breath in. Slow breath out. It’s very (very) hard to build capacity during a catastrophe. It’d be like trying to meditate while your house was on literal fire. Kinda hard, no? Many of us live in bodies constantly on edge, primed for survival. Our nerves are like ☠️ Your body doesn’t need self-care when it’s like this, it needs self soothing. (Which is why you do soothing things like vegging out in front of Netflix, eating McDonalds, making Wednesday Wine night every day of the week, etc.) I’m sure many of you have found it harder to write during the pandemic. It’s like the Wild Wild West of a dystopian prequel. And it makes total sense. Your body doesn’t want to stress itself writing, it wants a blunt and a 3 hour nap. Be kind to your soothing habits. They’re the key to what your body really needs: rest, connection, relaxation, sleep, energy, etc. Focus on giving your body those things (this is the part where we do the self care adult thing) even *as* you continue your self soothing habits. Your “bad” habits will taper off as you build capacity. You don’t have to go from 0 to 180 (you’ll *probably* just freak out your system even more and wind up right back where you’re at…) And remind yourself of where you’re heading. Slow breath in. Slow breath out. Relax your jaw, the space between your brows. Let your shoulders drop. Be kind to your body. Eve-teasing!

Eve teasing includes vulgar gestures, sexual remarks, winking, whistling, staring, touching inappropriately, groping, etc.

What's the saddest part?

Many people feel that the 'eve' in eve teasing refers to the woman herself tempting the male to make disparaging remarks and behavior toward her.

But, fortunately, the Criminal Amendment Act of 2013 amended the Indian Penal Code to make sexual harassment an express offense under Section 354A. The offender will be sentenced to two years of imprisonment and a fine, or both, under this section.

This Act introduced new offenses such as disrobing a woman without her consent, or any other form of sexual offense as well as stalking in the IPC. (Section 354B, C, and D)

Oh wow… tons of new FIT Family members!!! Thanks again @bossbabe.inc for the love! Allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Crystal, 😝but my friends and family call me Crys. Hence, Fit by Crys! My journey: I found my passion for fitness during my own weight loss journey. At age 30 I tore my ACL and gained almost 50lbs. But it was the best thing that ever happened to me! Because out of that suffering, FIT BY CRYS was born. Not only did I lose the weight, I became a Fitness Competitor, got a bunch of certifications, and obtained a Master’s degree in Exercise Science and Sports Nutrition.
