[ In honor of Harmony's birthday, I have something special to share. This art piece is Harmony in one of her sets of regalia, which is designed and drawn by @rubbarband.
What she's wearing is a ribbon skirt, which is more of a universal garment for many First Americans regardless of tribal affiliation. They can come in many, many colors and patterns and can have appliques or other adornments like embroidery or beadwork. Ribbon skirts are more lenient since people can wear them casually with t-shirts or dress it up with blouses. Harmony's top is inspired by the style of tops of ribbon dresses, which are from some Southeastern tribes and nations, which is complete with the beaded collar.
In my regalia posts, I talked a bit about the collars which are parts of regalia for some Southeastern tribes like the Choctaw and Chickasaw. However, Choctaw normally use only round seed beads while Chickasaw use round seed beads and bugle beads. They were introduced in the 1990's and since then, they have been a popular piece. There are many other jewelry pieces and accessories people can wear like gorgets, which often have traditional designs carved into metal or shell.
