This AU is basically Wu saying to the situation of Garmadon turning evil the equivalent of "this is bullshit!" to everyone and deciding to turn evil with his brother and be his 2nd in command instead to fight against him..
Aand now we have for now a "evil" (more like petty and chaotic) Wu with his brother.
Garmadon is too busy trying to keep his lil' brother out of making trouble on purpose to have time to be actually evil lol

Wait. When did Lloyd stop calling Wu “Uncle” and instead “Master Wu”?
P.S: not sure if this is an original thought of mine, comment below if so and I’ll give full credits to you, with proof ofc

Is it safe now to admit that I really don't like the Ninjago movie? Just hear me out.
As a movie on its own, it's literally just retreading the same ground as The Lego Movie. And it does it way worse.
"Oh no look it's [BIG BAD WITH ROBOTS] who is going to use [SUPER WEAPON] to destroy everything and make it into what he wants it to be! Only [SOCIAL OUTCAST] and his ragtag group of weirdos can take him down, and maybe learn that [LIFE LESSON THAT TIES INTO PROTAGONIST MOTIVATION AND ANTAGONIST REASON FOR BEING EVIL] along the way."
Like, The Lego Movie was a genuinely fun original story, and you absolutely get the sense that this is a story they wanted to tell. The Lego Batman Movie is similarly that, and is a genuine love letter to Batman and such an interesting character deep-dive through the use of parody. The Lego Ninjago Movie is just TLM but again.
And then there's how it holds up as a Ninjago movie. They adapted an existing beloved TV series with a lot of lore and unique/interesting characters. And they made it a joke.
"Alright, I'm so excited to see this movie for my favorite show. Are we gonna get some cool Garmadon v Lloyd? Are we gonna get an interesting arc for Kai? Are we gonna expand upon the existing lore?"
"Nah we're gonna ignore all that."
"...what?"
"Yeah no we don't really wanna do all that. But hey, wouldn't it be hilarious if Garmadon pronounced Lloyd's name like 'L-loyd'? Cause it has two L's?"
"... ... ...do we at least get to see the Skulkin again?"
"Nah it's goons in fish costumes now."
And also it created the post-movie era and I one-hundred-percent blame them for the loss of red-haired Jay.

Don't you find it ironic everytime, every single time Garmadom tried to keep Loyd from his destiny it just served to push him closer to it?
Destroying the ninja so they can't train Loyd? Fails miserably, makes Loyd be closer to the ninja
Destroy the dojo? Makes them closer again and they get back the bounty, to which they can train Loyd better
Revive the creature so it destroys the ninja? Ends up with Loyd aged up, making him be more powerful thus pushing the fight closer
Go to the past? Making him not have the Megaweapon (his only advantage at the momment) and thus making him less of a threath to Loyd
(Also how does that work, Garmadon didn't have the megaweapon so how did he make "Child's Play" happen to age up Loyd???
And shoutout to Past!Wu for looking at this four pijama men and inmediatly help them no questions asked)
It's so sad that everything he tried to not fight his son ended up making the fight happen sooner

It is not uncommon for Zane to repress or lock away memories. We see it many times such as Decoded, The Quest for Lost Powers, Virtues of Spinjitzu (I’ll get into that later). Zane does not like processing the traumatic things that happen to him and it’s very prevalent. Also, yes I’m talking about Zane again, shut up.
The first time we see it is in season four where he does not seem to understand that he died. He knows that he is not in the same body but he does not want to connect himself to White Ninja. He does not want to accept that he died. He gives himself an entirely new identity, the Titanium Ninja, to avoid those thoughts, and he locked the memories away. We see them again in Decoded in the form of the Ninjigma.
Tumblr media
At first, we are led to believe whatever is hacking Zane created it and then the others learn that Zane himself created it. This is foreshadowed with Nya telling Zane he has gaps in his memory. Zane simply tells her his memory bank is damaged, but seeing what’s inside the Ninjigma, we know that isn’t true. He didn’t create that to hide away the virus, it was to hide the memories. He doesn’t even remember creating it, wanting his future self to never find it.
Next, the Ice Emperor. Sixty years of being someone you aren’t, being a cruel tyrant to innocent people, tearing apart families as you desecrate an entire ecosystem by placing it under an eternal winter. Zane, who’s entire purpose is to protect those who cannot protect themselves, did all of that. He had to live with those memories, until he doesn’t. He locked them away, refusing to let himself even think of it. That is why he “recovered” so quickly next season. No one speaks of it, and Zane does the same. If he pretends it never happened, it he locks the memories away deep enough, maybe he can convince himself that it didn’t. The next time we see them is in “The Quest for Lost Powers”. (I literally love this book so much. Farmer Cole my beloved.) Pixal tells him that maybe his lost memories are the key to getting his powers back.
Tumblr media
Zane is afraid, he does not want to look at them, afraid to face himself as the Ice Emperor again. He carried these around for years, not allowing himself to face the facts. They aren’t gone though, only shoved into the recesses of his mind. Finally he accepts, he faces himself as the Ice Emperor and finally learns to forgive himself.
Virtues of Spinjitzu is the next time. Wu asks the Ninja if they remember the Six Virtues of Spinjitzu. None of them remember. Wu asks Zane how he doesn’t remember, he has a perfect digital memory after all.
Tumblr media
Zane claims he had to put some of his memories offline to clean them up. We know that in “The Quest for Lost Powers” his memories are still all messed up. He probably accidentally threw that memory in with some of the Ice Emperor ones and didn’t want to rifle through them to find it again.
And finally, season fifteen. After realizing locking away memories has consequences where he had trouble remembering things he did not mean to lock away, he needed a more reliable way to avoid processing his emotions. Hence, the emotion meter.
Tumblr media
This is something everyone finally saw. Zane couldn’t hide this from anybody. Nobody liked it, but what could they do? They could only stand and watch as their brother, pupil, and lover, take away any humanity he had. Even after Nya became human again, he kept it off, still wanting to avoid any future negative emotions. He learned from Sally that he needed emotions, even bad ones. He turned them back on and allowed himself to process his feelings again and then later forgiving himself in “The Quest for Lost Powers” and finally truly being a fully developed character.
Some people say Zane was already developed in season four, but I wanted to highlight the behind the scenes development that I’ve never really seen people talk about. Zane was never a developed character until “The Quest for Lost Powers”. He hid away memories and avoided confrontation with himself. He wanted to be there for his siblings and that only led to him barring himself off from helping himself. He believed if he had his own problems he couldn’t help them.
At least, this is how I see it. I wanna know other’s opinions on the behind the scenes development with him. See ya.

No because the new trailer is so funny to me, Wu was like "Family is everything" and my best friend Remy was like 'that's gonna come up later' and I was looking at it like 'mmmm, are you sure this isn't another "oh shit oh fuck my convoluted past has come to bite me in the ass" old man Wu moments?'

Master Wu: Kai, you shouldn’t be fighting with your brothers. It’s you guys against the world. You’re all each other has.
M!Zane: Sensei, your brother’s on the phone.
Master Wu: Tell that b//////d to GO TO HELL!

Thinking back to when kai told wyldfire that wu helping him work on his form after nya died and how they probably got a lot closer during that time since half the team had left.
Id like to think that they got a chance to build / repair a relationship that was always kind of forced between them.

Honestly the best part about season 16 is not the fact that the ultimate technique for defeating the overlord are literally the lyrics to the theme song of the whole show, but the fact that the weekend whip canonically exists in Ninjago, bacuse in The Royal Blacksmiths, the ninja dance to it in the competition. Which means that all of the ninja knew the song through the vast majority of the series. And also that some random band managed to not only guess the correct combination of moves the ninja had to do in the correct order, but they also managed to make the song popular enough to the point where four (possibly) teenagers living in secluded places, namely a monastery out in the middle of nowhere, still knew about it and liked it enough to make it their song in a dancing/singing contest/talent show that meant a lot to one of their teammates.

Thinking about how Ninjago S2 is probably one of my favorite pieces of television I've ever watched. It flows so well off of season 1 and allows those arcs to spread and grow.
It gave us the Mega Weapon, the Stone Army, the Overlord, lore for the Destiny's Bounty, let us actually meet Zane's dad, Misako, cured Garmadon, gave Lloyd his best arc (which the movie pretty much pulled from and the show still does), still is the Overlord's best defeat,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The characters actually have interesting dynamics with each and every one of each other that allows them to truly feel like a found family with history (and both Jay AND Kai get to react to things that happen to Nya, not just her Yin),
Tumblr media
We got one of my favorite 3D-animated fights of all time,
Tumblr media
And let's be honest, the show peaked right here (in a positive way).

Oh no Kai died!
So. I saw a post here on tumblr (I didn't save it :c) saying "what if kai died trying to provide for nya and she took his place in the series" and smth took over me and I drew this
More info below
So I took the premise of him dying and Nya taking his place but that's it, bc the og post said Nya would inherit his elemental power, but since Morro kept his being dead I'd imagine Kai could too.
So this changes a lot of stuff, in this au Kai "discovers" his elemtal powers early on, but they just manifest as being inmune to burns and fire which helps since this kid works at a forge.
One day he goes deep in the town to buy food, but there is an accident and a house is set on fire, he was just about to go home and ignore all the chaos when he hear someone still inside, against his better judgement he went in and helped knowing his resistance to fire. He saves the person trapped inside.. but instead of a 'thanks' the whole townspeople just go 'A witch!' since he didn't suffer any burns.. And you can imagine what happens next
Either way Kai does not arrive home, when Nya goes to town to ask where he is she is told he ran away by lady and that she should leave aswell (Quick tangent. The lady told Nya that to avoid explaining that they basically unalived her brother and so Nya doesn't get the same fate)
She moves away and years down the line she meets a nice old man saying he is looking for something special.
Okay so here goes the timeline from Nya's side all up until season 5:
• Pilot:
She works in a small shop doing repairs and is very agrressive towards Wu since instead of asking where are her parents he asked if she had any siblings, so yeah open wound. Anyway there is no kidnapping motivator here, the skeletons steal the map and destroy the only home she had, she goes with Wu in order to get revenge. He sees she is lost and in need of family so he trains her, everything goes about the same, Jay's line changes to inmediatly be "Do you like blue?", and she proceeds to ignore him since letting people in her life hasn't been an option in a long time (also here Wu assumed she must have the fire element). They get the weapons and Garmadon still tricks Nya with Kai's voice, when she arrives she is so mad she attempts to lift the sword to attack Garmadon, but she can't, seeing she has no use to him he sends some skeletons to attack, but apparently out of nowhere the sword lifts itself up and lands in Nya's hands (she was fighting the skeletons at that). From there Wu arrives, leaves, Garmadon is free all that stuff.
Nya wants to leave since she feels she failed since she is not the master of fire, but everyone just doesn't care and want her to still be part of the family. And so we go on to rise of the serpentine
• Rise of the Snakes:
Okay so here everything goes about the same, Samurai X is still Nya but it isn't a secret (she does this bc still feels like she can't be a ninja). Jay's true potencial happens bc he is like "I can't show you who I am becaussse you're ssso cool! I mean you are Sssamurai X and a Ninja!" which to she responds that she likes him as he is and even if she didn't he shouldn't change for others.
And the fangblades stuff is bc if Nya can't be tha master of fire, and samurai x isn't a ninja (she wants to but feels useless without an element) she might as well be the green one right?
She still saves Loyd over the fangblade, creating a dome of water from seemingly nowhere, unlocking her true potential as the master of water. And everything carries on the same
• Legacy of the Green Ninja & Rebooted:
Everything is pretty much the same.
Nya loses another brother
• Tournament of Elements:
All the ninja are split up like in the series with Nya doing vigilante stuff instead of fighting in an illegal fight club. Loyd attemps to reunite his family and everything goes about the same.
Skylor and Nya definetly flirted much to Jay's dissmay
Nya "betrays" Loyd just like Kai did with Nya in the series except Garmadon is left alone with the snake pet and Loyd is taken to the ritual. When Nya lifts the staff she does go a little power crazy, not for wanting to be the green ninja but bc she wants this power to protect her family.
Anyways season ends. RIP Garmadon
• Possesion:
All goes the same for the first 5 minutes. Then after fighting a possesed Loyd a ghost with fire in his hands arrives to the Bounty, asking- no, begging, for the Ninja to help him
Nya recognizes him and the world stops
Gonna do the Kai timeline in other post with Morro art :)
