Yandere Yagen Toushirou / female reader.

Synopsis: Something seems different about Yagen after he returned from his kiwame training.

Warnings: A touken danshi breaks, use of drugs.

It all began when Yagen returned from his kiwame training. You noticed that he had changed a lot - in appearance, strength, and even some parts of his personality feel different. He seems more eager to participate in sorties, he's become extremely knowledgeable in drugs and their effects on the human body, and not to mention, he's far more protective of you now. You didn't think too much about it though, since he's naturally protective of his masters as the sword of loyalty.

You knew that Yagen only wanted to keep you safe from harm...

... Did he? Or was there something more to that?

"I'll protect you no matter what comes, general."

Your eyes widened at the tantou's sudden proclamation. You were in the middle of treating his wounds in the repairing room when he uttered those words, and you let out an airy laugh before setting your tools aside to caress the top of his head.

"That's really sweet of you," you cooed, brushing his bangs away from his pale face with a smile, "But I already know that. You tell me the same thing every day, even way before you went on your kiwame training." You then cupped his cheek, your thumb gingerly tracing the shallow cut that was engraved there during the sortie he had just returned from. With a soft sigh, you picked up a bandaid and gently placed it over the cut. "Try not to get yourself hurt next time. It pains me to see you in this state, Yagen."

Yagen's eyes widened for a split second before he quickly looked away, his cheeks flushing at your expressed worry for him.

"I promise to return to this citadel unharmed in the future, so that I won't waste any of your time and resources," he said. Surprise etched itself on your expression. You stared at him, lips parted slightly as you tried to formulate a response. Moments passed with no words exchanged between the two of you. In the end, you only called his name in a quiet voice.

"Yagen..." You embraced the tantou without another word and pulled him against your chest, with one arm going around his waist and one hand pushing his face into your shoulder. He immediately stiffened in your arms, having not expected this development.

"G-General?" he stammered. You stroked his head, your fingers carefully combing through his ebony tresses as if you were a mother trying to comfort her son. Heat crept up his cheeks at the affection you were showering him with; although he was embarrassed, he also enjoyed what you were doing to him. It felt nice, comforting, and it made him feel at ease. He always felt at peace whenever he was graced with your warm presence, and he wanted to keep that all to himself.

"Yagen, please don't say that," you murmured, "I don't mind wasting my time, energy and resources on you. You're very precious to me." Pulling away from him, you then held his face before leaning in to plant a kiss on his forehead. "I'll always heal you when you get hurt."

A warm, tingling sensation bloomed from the spot you had pressed your lips against, causing Yagen's face to glow with a soft red hue. You didn't miss his blush and chuckled fondly.

'I... love general,' he thought. He then placed his hands over yours, entwining your fingers together. You smiled at him, unaware of the dangerous and obsessive thoughts his mind was drowning in.

Yagen wants to protect you with everything he has. Even if he has to be wounded or break for you...

You are his to protect.

A few days later, you received a notice from the Government of Time regarding the activities of the History Revisionists.

"These are the names of the swords that will be sent to the Memory of Shokuho. They will be part of the primary unit," you said as you handed a slip of paper to your secretary, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, "I have uncovered the enemy's objective. The History Retrograde Army is going to be stationed at Honnouji Temple, on the night of the 21st of June, 1582, the day of the Honnouji Incident."

"The Honnouji Incident..." he echoed, eyes narrowing, "Is the enemy planning to let Nobunaga-sama live?"

You nodded. "That's correct. The enemy is planning to intercept Mitsuhide's surprise attack at night. All the other details, including my directive, is written down on that paper."

"Understood, aruji." When he turned on his heels to leave your office, you rushed forward and stopped him by wrapping your arms around his torso tightly, your face burying itself in his back.

"Please be careful," you murmured, "Come home safely, okay? I don't want to lose any of you."

Twisting himself around in your grasp, Shokudaikiri then cupped your face with a gloved hand, his thumb caressing your cheek with a hint of tenderness. The loving look that crossed his handsome features made your cheeks heat up slightly and you bit your bottom lip.

"You won't lose any of us. I'll make sure that nobody breaks during the sortie," he said, leaning down to plant a reassuring kiss on your lips. You let out a surprised gasp and immediately pulled yourself away from him, your hand flying up to cover your mouth. The tachi rubbed the back of his neck whilst chuckling sheepishly at your reaction. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. But please, take that kiss as a promise from me, my aruji." He flashed you a bold smirk before exiting from the room to gather the swords that have been selected to participate in the upcoming sortie.

As he left, he was oblivious to the pair of watchful eyes following his every move, which harboured an unfathomable amount of hostility deep within. Yagen gazed at Shokudaikiri's retreating figure with a glare.

Another obstacle to get rid of...

Stepping out of the shadows, the tantou thinned his eyes into slits as his lips quirked sinisterly.

As Shokudaikiri stood next to the time portal, he made sure that all of the chosen swords are prepared to leave.

"Is everyone ready?" he asked, eyeing each member of his team. The unit he was going to lead consisted of Heshikiri Hasebe, Souza Samonji, Monoyoshi Sadamune, Tsurumaru Kuninaga and Yagen Toushirou. Everyone nodded at their leader's question. "Excellent. Let's head out with style!"

After activating the time portal, the entire team was promptly transported to the Memory of Shokuho in 1582. The moment they arrived in the era, Yagen slinked behind the unsuspecting Shokudaikiri, his hand inching towards the hilt of his tantou. His dark bangs cast a shadow over his glinting eyes as he steeled his nerves for the deed he's about to carry out.

"I hope you'll have no regrets," Yagen whispered.

It's time for Shokudaikiri to perish in the flames with Nobunaga, just like Yagen did according to history.

You were utterly horrified upon receiving the shocking news of what had transpired during the sortie from Konnosuke. When you heard that the sortie team had returned earlier than expected from Ichigo, you immediately became worried and rushed out of your office to be greeted with a devastating sight in the courtyard. The little tantous were giving the gravely injured swords first aid to prevent their wounds from festering, and when you couldn't find Shokudaikiri anywhere, dread pooled in your stomach.

"Mi-Mitsu-kun... Where is Mitsu-kun?" you asked in a shaky voice.

Monoyoshi solemnly approached you with the hilt of Shokudaikiri's tachi, which had the blade cleanly snapped off. Your eyes widened as your hands flew up to muffle your shuddering gasp.

"He... broke...?" you whispered incredulously. You were unable- no, you didn't want to believe it. Why did he and how could he have broken that easily? The Memory Shokuho wasn't supposed to be a challenging map to conquer, and Shokudaikiri was also one of your most experienced tachis. "No... It can't be..."

With trembling hands, you took Shokudaikiri's hilt out of the wakizashi's grasp and held it against your chest. Eyes glazing over with tears, you then spun on your heels and fled from your swords, prompting some of them to call for you.

"Aruji, wait!" Hasebe was about to chase you but Yagen quickly stopped him by standing in his path with his arms spread out. Faltering in mid-step, the uchigatana regarded the tantou with a small frown to wordlessly question him. Yagen shook his head.

"I'll go after general," he said, "You're all wounded, so please repair yourselves first. I'll check up on all of you as soon as I've made sure that she's stable enough to be on her own." Asides from Yagen who only sustained minor injuries from the sortie, the other swords on his team were in terrible shape... thanks to a certain tantou who was cunning enough to lead them straight into the enemy's trap without rousing any suspicion from them. The Awataguchi sword smirked internally when Hasebe hesitantly agreed to his suggestion.

"I leave her in your capable hands then, Yagen," Hasebe uttered.

Without another moment to waste, Yagen left the others to search for his beloved master. It wasn't a hard task as he easily found you weeping in one of the hallways whilst clutching onto Shokudaikiri's broken form. You had collapsed on the floor, your tears flowing down your cheeks effortlessly. The sight made him knit his eyebrows together; he doesn't like seeing you cry nor does he particularly enjoy seeing you hold onto what was left of Shokudaikiri so dearly. He clenched his fists as he silently stood behind you with a shadow over his eyes.

What's so good about that candle-cutting sword anyway?

Yagen is much stronger now that he's in his kiwame form, so why aren't you giving him all of your attention? He even thought really hard to conjure up a plan to efficiently get rid of Shokudaikiri during that sortie...

"General," he called, drawing your attention. You stiffened before hastily wiping your tears away so you could look at him without appearing like a complete mess.

"Y-Yagen..."

He crouched down to your level.

"Is everything alright, general? You don't look very well," he remarked. You averted your eyes with pursed lips, feeling the waterworks coming again.

"Yes... I'm fine. Don't worry about me," you replied in a murmur. You squeaked in surprise when Yagen suddenly embraced you, pulling you flush against him. You blinked as he tightened his arms around you and placed his chin on your shoulder.

"Please don't show me your sad face anymore," said Yagen as he closed his eyes, "Shokudaikiri... He said that he loved you."

Yagen's last sentence struck you right in the heart. You always had feelings for the eye-patch wearing sword, so hearing his final message for you caused tears to brim in your eyes once more. Sobbing, you buried your face in the tantou's shoulder, making him open his eyes with a smile. Deftly pulling something out of his sleeve, he popped a restoril pill into his mouth but didn't swallow it. He then pulled away from you slightly to capture your chin in a tight grasp which surprised you. An ominous feeling settled itself in the pit of your stomach the moment your gazes met.

"What are you doing?" you asked.

"You love Shokudaikiri too, don't you?"

When you didn't respond out of embarrassment, he narrowed his eyes and slowly reduced the distance between your faces. He was so close to you that you could feel his breath fanning your lips.

"(Y/n)," he quietly began, using your given name for the first time, "Did you know? I also love you." Before you could say anything, he pressed his lips against yours. They fitted together like perfect puzzle pieces, and your eyelids fluttered shut at the foreign feeling that was stirred inside you.

When Yagen sensed you getting comfortable, he pried your lips apart and pushed the restoril into your mouth. Your eyes shot open at the feeling of him forcing something down your throat, and you accidentally swallowed the pill. You promptly broke out of his grasp, coughing loudly.

"Y-Yagen... What..." As you gradually lost consciousness, you collapsed on your side. Yagen swiftly caught your body before it could touch the floor and brought you against his chest. Leaning down, he smiled against your hair, happy that he can finally hold his beloved saniwa without restriction.

"I would be your most trusted companion in combat, so why rely on the other swords?" he cooed, stroking your cheek with the back of his fingers affectionately.

Yagen Toushirou, Tonbokiri, and Shokudaikiri Mitsutada Taking Care of Sick Reader (GN Reader)

♡  Yagen is one of the most medically trained swords in the whole citadel, even if he denies that fact stating that he only knows first aid. 

♡  So when the citadel finds out their beloved saniwa is sick, Yagen is the first one on scene. Checking their temperature, seeing if their eyes have any redness, and asking questions to figure out what the cause of this illness may be.

♡ Depending on severe it is, Yagen’s company fluctuates. Yagen never wants to crowd another person and make them feel like they have no space. He is someone who also needs his alone time. 

♡  However, if the saniwa is passed out for a day(s), Yagen is practically living with them in their room.

♡  Yagen holds a persona of someone who is composed and always has a good idea what he is doing, which isn’t always wrong. But he is a human and there is multiple sides to him.

♡  As knowledgeable as he is, he still doesn’t think it is enough. 

♡  He would be in their room, taking care of them, all the while anxiously reading anything he can to figure out what the illness could be from their symptoms. He wants to help so bad that facing a situation where he is hopeless to help, destroys him.

♡  It is moments where he thinks he is completely alone where he will let the persona slip slightly. When he thinks they are still asleep, they can see him let out deep sighs as he rubs his eyes under his glasses. His leg bouncing as he goes through all the possible diagnoses.

♡  He would never publicly let that side of him show to anyone, keeping it hidden from everyone.

♡  Yagen is the best one to have with them when sick. If they don’t mind a strict caregiver.

♡  They will get healthy the fastest with him around.

♡  Normally he would follow their orders but when they are sick, he is in charge. He will make sure they always take their medicine on the dot everyday, make them eat foods that taste horrid but are the most healthy to help their recovery, and won’t let them escape when he tells them it’s time to rest and sleep.

♡  Strict out of love. 

♡  There will be moments when they are half awake where they will see him gently caring for them. From gently dabbing their forehead with a cold cloth, tucking them in with more blankets, or simply reading next to them just in case they need him. 

♡  Strict but always there for his saniwa. 

♡  Tonbokiri has a large heart of gold and cares deeply for his saniwa.

♡   However... he is probably the worst out of the three.

♡   He knows how to bandage a wound and stop the bleeding... But a cold? Oh gosh...

♡   He cares! Unlike the other two who would actively try to help them get better fast, Tonbokiri is more someone who would try to spoil them while they are sick because he believes that is the best thing he could do. 

♡   All their comfort foods? Tonbokiri is showing up everyday with it in his hand and helping them eat.

♡   Getting the biggest and warmest blankets for his saniwa. Maybe even cuddling with them to share his body warmth if they are really cold.

♡   Asks the swords who know more about cooking to help him prepare dishes with medicine in them so it doesn’t taste bad and so they can enjoy their food without the nasty taste of the medicine. 

♡   Anything the saniwa wants, Tonbokiri is going to get it for them. 

♡  Too high of a fever to walk around? That’s no problem! Tonbokiri will carry them if they have to. 

♡  He is very gentle with anything he does because he doesn’t want to push them too far and make them more ill. He is the most supportive one when they are sick. 

♡  He would gently rub their back and hold their hair if they feel really ill. All the while saying, “It’s okay. I’m here. Take your time.”

♡  He would probably have to constantly fight with Sengo Muramasa from coming into the room to “help”. 

♡  If he wakes them up because he is fighting with Sengo at the door, he would feel so bad and beg for forgiveness.

♡  Probably would read them bedtime stories if they want that.

♡  Mitsutada is the second fastest one that catches onto the saniwa getting sick. Yagen being the first.

♡  The moment that their appetite does down too much, he is by their side. Can come off as a bit of a worrywart at first if he thinks they are getting too sick. 

♡  Checking their temperature is the first thing he does. Unlike Yagen, who knows where all the medical tools are, Mitsutada has to rely on checking just by their forehead. 

♡   This is if he believes they are getting badly sick. Mitsutada is someone who is very confident in his appearance and always tries to look his absolute best, but there is a part of him that he rather not show the world. His hands.

♡   His hands are very badly burned from when he was still in his sword form. That part of him transferred over to his hands. Something to always make him remember what happened to his beautiful blade and remind him that blade was burned and thrown away.

♡  Even though he is self conscious about that part of him, he is more so worried about their health. He only hesitates for a moment before taking off a glove of his and checking their temperature. 

♡  Part of him slightly afraid that they would see his scarred hands and grow disgusted of him. Luckily, they don’t. Perhaps because they don’t care or their fever is too high to consciously pay attention to all the details around them. 

♡  Mitsutada may not be someone who knows exactly what to do when someone is sick but he is dedicated. He would bring any of the swords that knew what to do and ask them a million of questions.

♡  He would also do his own research to look up foods to help those with colds and fevers. Anything he can learn, he is taking the time to do so.

♡  All their meals will taste amazing, even if their taste buds aren’t working properly to fully taste it.

♡  He would try his best to put the medicine in healthy foods so they don’t have to taste it and enjoy the meal.

♡  If there is something he can’t make taste good, he is making a comfort food that they can eat after their medicine so they don’t have to dwell on the terrible taste they had beforehand. 

♡  Mitsutada is also someone who would go out of their way to get anything their saniwa wants. He would be their loyal butler and make their sick days pass as painless as possible.

Yagen Toushirou

The minute Yagen finds out that you’re sick as hell not in a good way, he immediately wants you to rest. He’ll fucking guard your room himself if he must. He doesn’t panic like Kashuu will (more on that later) but to him, it’s your health above all. He will be that nurse who comes to check on you every hour for updates, taking your temperature and so on and so forth.

He keeps his brothers away from you during this time. The more hyper ones at least, they can go sit in a corner and think about what they’ve done.The quieter ones like Gokotai or Akita or Ichigo can stay, he can trust them. They can help him take care of you!

And then you sneak outta your room while Gokotai’s tiger(s) didn’t notice and now you’re WORKING? IN THIS CITADEL? OH N O. Yagen may be small as fuck (5 feet/153 cm) but damn right he’s going to carry you back to your DAMN ROOM.

Now the more hyper brothers are of use. They rat you out the minute you try to work, and keep you distracted. Sure they’re going to carry you back to your room and take away anything that seems like work but damn right they are going to help you get better. It’s what the doc ordered!

If you’re just bored in bed, it’s up to Yagen and the Toushirous to the rescue! Gokotai with her tiger(s), Hirano and Maeda with stories and four leaf clovers, Hakata with whatever the heck he’s up to, and so on and so forth! Maybe Yagen will give you a lap pillow to help you relax? I mean you do it to him and he does it to his siblings. Why not complete the circle of love and give you a lap pillow!!

YEs he will still take away anything related to your work. Yes he’ll have his brothers guard you and watch movies with you. He’ll join in of course, letting you lean your head on his shoulder as you nap and then usher everyone out.

Yeah Yagen may get sick but it’s not like he can’t take care of himself! He can and will! He’ll multi-task and take care of you and himself at the same time!

All of the soup. He’s going to ask Kasen and Micchan how to cook and make you soup or something or other to munch on while you’re sick. Not really the udon song in Hanamaru but more along the lines of “sus looking but healthy and taste good so it’s edible” and he does make it with you in mind so it’s the thought that counts?

Yagen knows you’ll bounce back easily, it’s just a cold. You’ll only make it worse if you work! GO BACK TO BED. Don’t make him drug you. he won’t he promises

But if anything Yagen trusts you. He wants you to feel better! You are his master and you are important to this citadel. You just have to get better! Yagen will stay by your side until the end for that!

Kashuu Kiyomitsu

Oh this poor young man PANICS when he finds out that you’re sick. Perhaps he’s still thinking of Okita and how he died from his illness, immediately will ask if it’s some kinda disease similar to TB. But when Yagen tells him that it’s just a normal cold or something his panic leaves him but like - dude, he’ll still worry about you.

Assuming you two are together, Kashuu will know your habits by now. He knows that you will try to work while being sick so you wake up to find your room full of nothing but nail polish and beauty products. Where the fuck did your papers go? Back in your office where those damn things belong. You are not leaving your room while you are resting.

If you are bored, expect Kashuu to tell you stories or just do little things with you. Make hair accessories or accessories in general, paint and mess with your nails and hands - give you kisses. Sure you may look like hell from falling in and outta sleep like this but he loves you none the less!

And then you sneak outta your room to go work and Kashuu has to drag you back to bed. Asks the rest of the Shinsengumi to help seal off the door to your office. He’s carrying you as Yams and Nagasone lock the doors and Horikawa is making soup and Kane-san is just....being moral support.

If you keep on insisting that you want to work, Kashuu will only give you the easiest documents to work on, along with the shortest ones. He’s not letting you work for too long, he knows how bad it is to overwork yourself. You bet your ass he’s going to be there right next to you, hovering over your shoulder and taking your papers away when he thinks you have had enough.

Cuddles. Don’t fucking think that just because you’re sick Kashuu won’t cuddle your ass. Yes he’s a little concerned with you sneezing and coughing on him but if it’s for his beloved master (and romantic partner) he’ll do whatever he needs to do to make you happy!

No lippy kisses during sicky days. It’s forehead and cheek kisses or bust.

As you recover you can see the life shine back in his eyes, oh so happy that you’re okay! If anything happened to you, oh man Kashuu would be disTRAUGHT. He’s still going to hover around you though, worried beyond belief.

Most of all, if you’re uber cuddling during your sick times, KAshuu is more than willing to cuddle~!

Can you do Yagen from Touken Ranbu fluff?

I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE ANON BUT I LOVE YOU FOR REQUESTING TOURABU. Since Yagen has a bit more of a child-like appearance for me, I wrote this as more platonic rather than romantic. I hope that’s okay ;;

As the saniwa, it was your duty to care for the swords under your responsibility. You made sure that they all did their duties, that they trained, that they took care of any injuries sustained during sorties, and that they all rested up after long hours of expeditions.

But just because you were able to take care of others didn’t mean you took good care of yourself, much to the others’ concern and worry, so when you had fallen ill from lack of proper sleep and food, it was Yagen who had taken on the role of looking after you.

He had experience taking care of his brothers, so he knew what to do, making sure you were well-rested and eating well. Whenever you’d try to push yourself to work, the tantou would scold you like a worried mother which you couldn’t help but laugh at.

Still, Yagen knew that you’d be concerned on how the Citadel was running, so he’d always give you updates on what you might have missed, and understanding that you might get lonely, he stayed with you as much as he could, passing the time with idle and light conversation about anything and everything.

Once you’re feeling much better, he would not forget to remind you to take care of yourself since you’re just as important as everybody else, so don’t make him worry so much next time.

A/N: I wrote this during my winter break and was inspired by a fic where it has a similar premise but I won’t spoil it ehe, also I wanted an excuse to write more of Sanchoumou, also Midare goes by any pronouns in this and is non-binary, but i think I refer to them by she/they/he, also I like Midare a lot because they my child, also this team is based off one of the units I actually have in my game with: Sanchoumou (Captain), Kogarasumaru, Nihongou, Midare Toushirou, Norimune Ichimonji, Kikkou Sadamune, it’s called Family + Kikkou btw lol. Sanchoumou (dad), Kogarasumaru (grandpa), Nihongou (drunk uncle), Midare (the child obviously), Norimune Ichimonji (grandpa on dad’s side), Kikkou (pet- /THIS IS A JOKE) but yeah I have a lot other fics to post but im very lazy and procrastinating on writing my final paper, so imma post some fics soon I need to get off my ass.....

As the proud head of the Ichimonji clan cut down the last foe, Sanchoumou sheathed his blade and let out a sigh of relief. The mission seemed to draw to a close, with minimal injuries and the unit ready to relax, Sanchoumou was about to call the team back home to the citadel. But just as everyone was about to teleport back, Midare noticed a barely alive HRA soldier creep up behind Sanchoumou, “Captain look out!” 

But it was too late, on the foe’s final breath, they lunged towards Sanchoumou and grabbed him. In a flash of sickly, green light, the two disappeared and Midare and the rest of the unit desperately searched for their captain. Fearing for the worst, Nihongou uncorked his sake bottle and poured some onto the ground to commemorate their lost captain. Meanwhile Norimune didn’t think for a second that Sanchoumou was dead; his heir wouldn’t go down so easily. The retired head scoured the now empty battlefield for any traces of his successor, his eyes landing on a pile of Sanchoumou’s clothes with a lump moving around underneath. 

“Over here!” Norimune exclaimed and the unit circled the pile of clothes. Did Sanchoumou disappear and was kidnapped by the History Retrograde Army? Or was his body disintegrated by the touch of the fallen soldier? Or- before any of them could ask any questions, Kikkou poked the moving mass to be met with a squawk. Shrugging off the clothes, a white pheasant emerged with just as a confused look as everyone else. A moment of silence passed and the only one who pieced together what had happened was Kogarasumaru who picked up the confused pheasant and started petting him to calm him down. 

“It seems that our captain here has grown a few more feathers,” Kogarasumaru smiled while cradling the now transformed Sanchoumou like a baby. The bespectacled pheasant couldn’t help but calm its startled feathers to Kogarasumaru’s gentle sways. When Nihongou connected the dots, he tried to stifle his laughter but burst out with tears in his eyes. While the Great Spear of Japan was laughing his guts out, Midare, being the 2nd tantou ever summoned to the citadel, was already rolling her eyes into the back of her head on ways to explain this to you. 

Norimune breathed a sigh of relief that his successor wasn’t dead but was already thinking of ways to fix this. They couldn’t go to Yagen unless they wanted him to dissect and study poor Sanchoumou, maybe he could ask the young kitten of the Ichimonji clan? No… sure Nansen was cursed but he sure didn’t know how to reverse it. That meant that the only two people that could have any hope of curing Sanchoumou of this curse were those two. Making up his mind, Norimune whispered his plans to Midare and they turned to everyone else, “Alright everyone! I’ll transport us home due to our captain being… incapacitated at the moment, so make sure to grab everything of Sanchoumou’s!” 

Kikkou without any second thoughts grabbed Sanchoumou’s clothes but clarified to everyone, “I’m not gonna do anything to them, besides I prefer my own!” Everyone else besides Nihoungou who was hollering at the whole situation gave a side eye to the pink haired uchitanaga. Without any second glances, Midare transported the unit with their now feathery captain back to the citadel. 

Once home, Norimune ponders, “Should we tell the Saniwa about this predicament because maybe they could help reverse-“ 

A loud squawk from Sanchoumou interrupted him, he vehemently shook his head at the idea. 

“Eh… Sanchoumou, Saniwa is a powerful magician, they can surely reverse this curse no problem.” 

Sanchoumou continued to shake his head violently  and began to flap his wings in protest. 

Norimune sighed, “Alright, alright, I’ll keep your secret.” 

Midare immediately whispered to the unit, “Alright, no one is going to tell anyone else about this. This stays under wraps until we know how the curse works and if it can be reversed. If anyone asks, Sanchoumou went to perform an errand and won’t be back for some time.” 

Kikkou tilted his head, “But wouldn’t that raise questions?” 

Norimune answered his question, “Not if I say it was true, even though I’m a retired old man now I still have some influence.” 

Kogarasumaru calmed down the flustered pheasant, “You hear that, your secret is safe with us.” 

Sanchoumou’s feathers relaxed once more and they all decided to cover Sanchoumou with a cloak and sneakily ran over to the only two people that could possibly solve this in secret. 

“Oya? What brings you five here today?” Nikkari cheekily asked while in Ishikirimaru’s lap. 

Ishikirimaru calmly asked while caressing Nikkari’s hair, “Yes, how may  we help all of you?” 

No one was willing to step up and say the ridiculous predicament their captain has gotten himself into. Midare sighed and unveiled the new Sanchoumou, “Our captain was cursed and we need your help!” 

Nikkari lifted his head from his paramour’s lap and deepened his mischievous smile, “Now this is quite the problem~” 

Ishikirimaru immediately scanned the slightly rattled pheasant, “A potent curse indeed. Hand me Sanchoumou if that’s alright.” 

Kogarasumaru made sure Sanchoumou was ok before handing him to the ootachi, “It’ll be alright.” 

Sanchoumou steadied his breathing and let himself be examined by the two lovers. Ishikirimaru hummed, “Hmmm… a curse such as this normally wouldn’t take too long to solve but considering that it was made by someone on the brink of death… it’ll be a little more difficult than usual to break.” 

“Although ghost slaying is my forte, I do know my way around malevolent forces, but you need to trust me on this,” Nikkari warned with his signature smile. 

Sanchoumou nodded, determined to get out of this form as quickly as possible. 

The wakizashi looked to his beloved for his partnership, Ishikirimaru gave a look to him that said ‘Of course I will.’ The two placed the confused Sanchoumou down on the floor and grabbed both of their blades to the shock of the rest of the unit. They whispered to each other for a brief moment. 

Ishikirimaru and Nikkari’s eyes gave off a chilling glint and quickly unsheathed their blades. Before any of the others could scream or shout, the two slashed the blades at Sanchoumou and a bright light covered the room. Ishikirimaru and Nikkari were the only ones to notice a fading dark mist disappear into the void. A quick moment passed and Sanchoumou’s teammates opened their eyes to a still alive pheasant. Hell even the Ichimonji head looked at himself in confusion, but Nikkari could only chuckle. Ishikirimaru sighed and gave Nikkari a knowing glance, “My apologies but we didn’t want to alert the curse on what we were trying to do. Because it was far more intelligent than we thought.” 

Midare grew concerned, “How so?” 

Nikkari answered with a dark look in his eyes but a constant smile, “The curse is permanent without any intervention and would persist long after the accursed person’s death. It would then mutate and transform the poor bird into something more menacing and more akin to an oni with feathers. The afflicted one soon no longer recognizes any of its loved ones and only focuses on getting its revenge and satisfying its bloodlust.” 

Ishikirimaru shook his head in mock dismay, “Well in an extreme case, yes, but essentially the curse would possess the afflicted and transform them into something that represents its soul. Once transformed, it worms into the victim’s mind to make them accomplish the curse-user’s goals regardless of whether the victim is alive or not.” 

The only calm ones of Sanchoumou’s unit were the two old men, Norimune teasing his successor, “Good thing, we got rid of your curse hahaha! But I can’t imagine this small thing beating me quite yet!” 

Sanchoumou ruffled his feathers in both shock and embarrassment. 

Kogarasumaru’s calm demeanor remained, “But why is this small one still a pheasant?” 

The sacred ootachi answered, “Well, curses that involve transformation normally only last a few days to weeks typically. Only serious transformation curses require a clause to break the curse or are as serious as the one mentioned. I was worried that fully resolving the curse would activate something even worse so Nikkari and I decided to make the curse a much milder version. So the curse will last a week at least but will most definitely resolve itself by the next full moon.” 

Midare was going to have an aneurysm, how was he going to cover for her captain for 2 weeks?! Kogarasumaru saw the tanto’s distress and rubbed their back, “It’s alright, we’ll figure something out. You’re not alone in this, besides I think Sanchoumou already has an idea.” 

Sanchoumou was already carrying a brush and some paper in his beak and laid it down. He tried to write with the brush but it was illegible so he dipped his claws into the ink to write out a message. It read, ‘I’ll distract Saniwa in this form and I need someone to disguise as me to avoid suspicion.’ Everyone’s eyes went to Norimune, the old man chuckled, “It seems that I must be the head of the clan once more.” 

After agreeing with Nikkari and Ishikirimaru to have a checkup every night in regards to Sanchoumou’s curse, the team thanked the couple and went to report to Saniwa. Luckily for them, Yagen and you were walking down the hallway they just entered. You warmly greeted the team, “I was wondering where all of you have been? Did something happen, never mind that I’m just glad all of you are safe. But where’s Sanchoumou?” 

Yagen also piped up, “Yeah, where were all of you? All of you need to have a check up so we can be sure there’s no injuries on any of you.” 

Nihoungou surprisingly answered, “Sorry, sorry! I wanted to celebrate with my great team of mine and we got carried away, hahahaha! We got so drunk that Sanchoumou passed out!” 

Everyone followed Nihoungou’s lead and proceeded to act like they were drunk except for the aforementioned Sanchoumou and Midare. She just wanted to go back to her room and get her beauty sleep, what the hell. Sanchoumou meanwhile was wondering what Nihongou was thinking. 

Yagen’s pinched his nose, “Well I certainly believe you Nihongou but just make sure that everyone gets checked for injuries alright?” 

You meanwhile were concerned for the “missing” tachi, “Should I go look after Sanchoumou then, I can bring some-“ 

Kikkou interjected with a faux slurring of his words, “Oooooh Saniwa won’t you look after me instead?~ I’ve let myself go and don’t you think that requires punishment~” 

Nihongou swore he saw your eye twitch before you calmly replied, “Ok just take care of Sanchoumou and let me know if he needs anything. Midare, thanks for being such a champ, as a reward I’ll buy you that new kimono you've been talking about.” 

Maybe this was worth it after all, Midare with her signature, cheerful smile, “Of course Saniwa! Midare’s got you covered, and can you buy me that new hair pin as well <3?” 

“Yes of course Midare, you’re doing such a great job.” 

“Fufufu! Now that’s what I like to hear!” 

Kikkou interjected, “What about me?!” 

“Get some rest you drunkard,” you rolled your eyes and just as you were about to excuse them, “Hey… why do y’all have a pheasant?” 

Well fuck. 

Norimune, while trying to be as coherent and pretend drunk as possible, “Welllll…. it seems that my successor caught a bird while drunk uhahaha! So we’ve been taking care of this thing while our captain was drunk!” 

Sanchoumou’s little bird eye twitched. 

You were skeptical but you looked at the pheasant in question and found your heart growing warmer at the sight of him, “Well make sure to set the poor thing free later but he is a cutie.” 

If birds could blush then Sanchoumou would be a tomato. 

Kogarasumaru smiled, “Well it seems that this small bird has gotten attached to us and won’t seem to leave.” 

You shook your head in disbelief, “Alright, alright, all of you get some rest, I’ll take care of this little guy for now.” 

The father of swords gingerly handed Sanchoumou to you and you held it gently. The feathery Ichimonji couldn’t help but coo and nuzzle into your embrace, “He’s an affectionate little guy huh? Don’t worry I’ll make sure Kasen makes you some good food.” 

As you waved the unit goodbye, you headed back to your room with Yagen. He was still skeptical of the bird, so the tanto examined for a few moments before bidding you good night. You set the pheasant down next to your futon and looked around for proper bedding for your new guest. Sanchoumou, wanting to help you, grabbed some pillows while you got a small cloth to cover him during the night so he wouldn’t get cold. 

“Thank you.” 

He chirped in response. 

A few days had passed since then and various team members from Sanchoumou’s unit came to pick him up and take him to see the sacred sword and ghost slasher. Things were looking optimistic all things considered, Ishikirimaru told them that the curse should resolve itself in a mere couple of days. But Sanchoumou’s disappearance had been whispered about and the rest of the Ichimonji clan who hadn’t been informed of what happened were getting worried. 

Nansen was growing antsy at his missing boss and Nikkou began searching everywhere for the clan leader. Midare pulled their teammates aside to give Norimune a makeover, Sanchoumou was there to supervise and everyone except Nihongou helped the former head become the current leader of the Ichimonji clan. Nihongou was drinking booze and tried to help but booze and careful precision never really mix well, do they? Midare decided to put a mask over Norimune’s mouth to avoid even more scrutiny and all things considered, it was a success??? 

Norimune knew Sanchoumou well enough to fool someone at a glance but Nikkou and Nansen were harder to fool. The sunglasses-wearing pheasant corrected the old man multiple times and everyone couldn’t help but giggle at the sight. So thankfully Nansen was fooled but Nikkou seemed skeptical but didn’t seem to speak up about it. (I don’t have Himetsuru so he’s off doing his own thing) 

Meanwhile you were getting more and more comfortable with the pheasant in your life. Sure it was a bit awkward at first to sleep next to a random bird but you got used to it. Sanchoumou’s heart was rapidly beating against his feathery chest while next to you. Being so close to you in this form was a curse and a blessing, a curse in that he couldn’t communicate any of his deeper thoughts to you clearly. But a blessing in that he felt like he was getting closer to you and heard things that he would’ve never even dreamed of. Yet he couldn’t handle it for too long since he mostly escaped through the flight of his wings after he was sure you were asleep. 

One night before bed, Sanchoumou was preening his feathers since he got into the habit while waiting for the curse to wear off. You were staring at him and he turned to you and tilted his head in confusion, you laughed, “Sorry, you’re just so cute like this. And you remind me of someone… um can I tell you a secret?” 

There was a beat of silence. 

“What am I doing, talking to a bird…” 

Sanchoumou, to dissuade you from backing down, nuzzled his head against your hand to urge you to speak. You smiled, “Alright, ok. Um, so you remind me of this guy I really like. He’s super cool and handsome, like nothing could phase him. Yet he’s so gentle and kind, he’s the full package. But I’m scared to tell him because he probably wouldn’t like someone like me.” You paused a bit for thinking ‘fuck it’ this bird wouldn’t know who Sanchoumou is, “His name is Sanchoumou and I really like him, keep a secret for me ok?” 

Sanchoumou never wanted more than to transform back and confess his feelings back to you. But he could do nothing but longingly look into your eyes and coo at you. You chuckled at this pheasant’s concern for you, “Do you think he likes me back?” 

Sanchoumou chirped in confirmation. 

“I hope so too.” 

As much as he wanted to stay, as soon as you fell asleep, he flew out of your room and into Nikkari’s and Ishikirimaru’s room like he did every night. Nikkari knew from the desperate look on Sanchoumou’s eyes that he wanted to be free. “Alright, just be patient, since your time is coming a lot sooner than you’d think.”

And he was right since the next night, Sanchoumou’s body felt heavier and rushed himself into the bathroom. Feathers turned to flesh, wings turned to hands, claws turned to feet, and his beak turned into his mouth. The strange sensations flooded throughout his transforming body and he was trying his best not to scream, with a few, soft whimpers escaping. He needed to remain the  cool, steadfast leader that everyone needed. He shouldn’t have let his guard down, he should’ve been more alert, he should’ve been- His bombarding thoughts caused him to sweat and he lifted his hand up to wipe the sweat off his brow only to realize he was human again. 

A sigh of relief and pain escaped Sanchoumou’s clenched teeth, he looked down and of course he was naked. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he considered wearing a towel until there was a knock on the bathroom door. A soft voice from the other side said, “I’ll put your clothes in front of the door, it’s good to have you back captain!” 

“Thanks Midare,” when Sanchoumou spoke, it felt weird to him as if he hadn’t been using his mouth properly in forever. But stretching his body and getting used to being human again, he then went to go put on his clothes. He was surprised at how tight fitting his clothing was but he guessed it was because he hadn’t been wearing clothes for at least a week or two. 

Straightening his clothing and hair out, Sanchoumou made his way to you. But right as he was about to knock on your door, he stopped, how the hell was he going to explain what happened to him. He didn’t want to lie but he didn’t want to tell you out of fear that you would be disappointed in him. He needed to be a good leader and this was an embarrassment, what a joke. His hand slightly trembled but thankfully you opened the door before his resolve could waver even further. 

Your eyes were full of concern, “Sanchoumou where have you been? All of us have been worried sick about you… I’ve been worried sick about you.” 

“My apologies, my little bird but there’s something I need to tell you.” 

You know that he calls you little bird as just a nickname but something in your heart just flutters whenever he calls you that. “Yeah of course, what do you need to tell me?” 

“Let’s take this inside,” Sanchoumou moved, the two of you inside your room and closed the door, “The reason behind my absence is entirely my fault, I let my focus slip and was ambushed by an enemy.” 

Your eyes widened in fear, “Are you hurt?! Do you need me to get Yagen? Do you want me to heal you?” 

Sanchoumou’s heart beated a bit faster when he saw you fret over him, “Don’t worry, little bird, I’m fine. Instead the foe… turned me into a pheasant.” 

A moment of silence blessed the two of you, until you connected the two dots, “So you were the cute pheasant?!!!” 

“Yes, indeed I was. I’m happy that you find me cute however.” 

“Wait does that mean you were the one I told my crush to???” 

“Yes and-“ 

“I’m so sorry, you can ignore it. It’s ok I uh-“ 

He held your hands and looked deep into your eyes, “I wanted to tell you that I was just as infatuated with you as well.” 

“… Really?” 

“Yes, really.” 

“I can’t believe it.” 

“Believe in it.” 

You had such a stupid smile on your face and Sanchoumou wanted to kiss you. 

“But wait, why didn’t you just tell me from the start that you turned into a bird?” 

Sanchoumou’s face blanched, “I… was ashamed and didn’t want to disappoint you.” 

“You silly goose! You could never disappoint me Chomo, you’re enough, you’re more than enough. Everyone cares about you regardless if you’re a fearless leader or not!” 

“Thank you, my dear. But I think it’s more proper to say pheasant than goose.” 

You couldn’t help but laugh when he said that and he felt enchanted by your laughter. He leaned in close so that your foreheads touched and you closed the distance with a kiss. 

Springing into action, Sanchoumou laid you onto your futon and began to show how much you truly meant to him. 

Outtakes: 

Midare was showing off the new kimono that you bought him, “Saniwa, Saniwa!! Doesn’t this look pretty on me?” 

You sat in Sanchoumou’s lap and the two of you praised and cheered on Midare’s mini fashion show, “You look great Midare, like you always do!” 

“Hehehe of course! But I guess I have the captain to thank for this or should I say Dad~” 

You couldn’t help but grow flustered at the implication, but Sanchoumou was all for it, “Dad doesn’t sound half bad, doesn’t it my dove?” 

Just as you were about to hide your face, Sanchoumou kissed up the length of your neck to prevent you from hiding from him. You giggled and playfully squirmed at his affection and Sanchoumou continued his loving attack on you. Midare gagged a little at the display of affection but was happy that you two were happily in love.

Nightmares: Yagen Toushirou, Fudou Yukimitsu, Taikogane Sadamune

This is actually very interesting, digging into Sada-chan’s mind like this.

Warnings: Suicide, burns, blood, bodily harm, trauma because Yagen and Fudou have so much. Sada-chan being a sad baby pls hug all of the tantous.

Yagen Toushirou

Yagen’s dreams are full of fire. They’re not of him burning like Honebami’s, but more so of the burning of people he cares for, the people he tries to protect the most. Ichigo, brothers, friends, you his master. Watching them waste away in a fire and there is nothing he can do to save them.

Oh but the ones that hurt Yagen the most are when he can feel himself cutting open the stomach of someone he is meant to protect, organs and blood spilling out on to the ground below. Nobunaga had done so with him once. Gods forbid himself from hurting another like that.

Honnouji haunts him yes, of course it would. The fires, the screams, the pain, the sorrow, the lives he had to end. He awakens with a silent scream whenever that happens, tears budding at the corner of his eyes. He would like to wake up his brother but he is asleep, he won’t want to disturb him.

Then there are the nightmares that center around you, his master. If you and Yagen are particularly close during this time, he imagines himself driving his own blade into your form. His hands against yours, almost leading you into doing the dastardly deed. It is when he is waking up from that nightmare does he come to visit you, making sure that you are alive and breathing. He doesn’t mean to wake you if it happens, but when you do, Yagen will hesitate for a moment.

“Can...I come in?” he would question, and when you do, you two sit in silence for a moment. Yagen doesn’t know what to say, his lips tightened into a straight line, fangs chewing on his lower lip. You can see the bags under his eyes and when you ask what is wrong, it takes a moment for him to answer. “Nightmare.” his words are soft and simple. He won’t ask for much comfort, but your presence is good enough. Maybe he’ll hold your hand and feel your pulse, to confirm that you’re alive. Maybe he doesn’t need words to tell you what is going on through is mind, perhaps a touch is enough.

Maybe in the morning and in the following days, he’ll hesitate to touch you. Maybe he’ll keep an eye out for you, almost terrified whenever something sharp was in your line or vision. Yagen will watch you like a hawk but he wouldn’t want to overstep his boundaries. You know that he is doing this because of his nightmare and when you two talk it out, it’ll be fine in the end. He’ll worry but he knows you can take care of yourself.

Alternatively, Yagen will take a walk to clear his mind. Sometimes he will talk with Ichi-nii, telling him of his worries and his fears. Of his hands against the hilt of his own blade, dragging it oh so slow across the skin of his family, as they scream in horror and terror. 

His shoulders will shake, tears held back, Ichi-nii or one of his other brothers will hold him close, running a hand through is hair and telling him it’s okay to cry.

His sobs are soft as he is, quiet as the morning dew. Shoulders shaking, his heart stopping for a moment. He lets out his cries, his shudders, his fears, hoping that they will be lighter.

Yagen will be fine in the end, sure the nightmares are just that. Nightmares. They won’t hurt him, they are not physical beings that could rend him apart. But it does not change the fact even he fears them.

Fudou Yukimitsu

Fudou doesn’t know if the alcohol he drinks helps bring on the damn things or makes them go away or whatever the hell. He just knows that whenever those damn nightmares come, he wakes up with the most horrendous of screams in his solo room, the scent of alcohol replacing the scent of burning flesh and wood. He’ll immediately reach for the bottle again, hoping to drown out his worries and sorrows.

It’s a cycle. Drinking to forget the nightmares and day-mares that haunt him, of the failure that he is. Those screams and the patronizing chide of Hasebe or other swords, it eats away at him.

If you and Fudou are close, he will wander his way into your room or office, reeking of alcohol but for once not at all super drunk? His head is pounding as you look him in the eyes, red and puffy from crying. Fudou doesn’t know why the hell he’s here, but he just wanted someone to...talk to?

He collapses in front of you, tears fully falling down his face now. It’s heart wrenching to say the least. It’s ugly sobbing, loud and snot everywhere. He clings on to you, to the point fabric may rip. THe only thing you can do right now is to hug his shaking body, rub circles into his back and shush him, comfort him as best as you can. He doesn’t know where to go, who to turn to. Sure Odagumi are an idea but if you two are close, the first person he thinks of is you. 

Fudou would begin to apologize once he had calmed down, apologizing for being so weak, so useless of a sword to you. He would say those through his tears, laughing at himself and his shortcomings. You have to gently wipe them away, assuring him that those are not true. Fudou is Fudou, he is not and will never be useless.

If Fudou does not go to you, the first thing that comes to his mind is the rest of the Odagumi. He’ll stumble into one of their rooms (most likely Hasebe as he has a solo room and he doesn’t wanna disturb the rest of the Toushirous and Samonjis) and will wake him up, sobbing all the while. Hasebe will freeze for a moment, before bringing Fudou into a strange sideways hug. 

Fudou doesn’t know how long he can keep this up. These nightmares of a fire, or of failing the people around him. He wants to be stronger because of this, it hurts him so much that he wants to shrivel up and die like Nobunaga had. A part of him wants to join them, to throw himself into a fire and be with the master he loves - unable to ever return the favor.

The next morning, Fudou is a lot more quiet than normal. If you two are close, Fudou will be almost rivaling Hasebe in staying by your side. Yes Fudou will still be drinking to chase away the nightmares but it’s not as much as he normally drinks. HAsebe will find it odd that Fudou is hovering around you, silently yes, and somewhat still at a distance but Fudou is watching out for you more and he cannot complain.

Fudou will talk about his nightmares to you, or Hasebe, or whomever, but they’re jumbled through is sobs and cries. Give him a minute to compose himself, he’ll be alright in the end but patience is key.

When Fudou has had enough of these damn nightmares, the first thing he will do is barge into your office, a confident yet terrified sort of look on his face, courage in his eyes. “Uh.... Well... You'see, there's something....” pls cherish him im so proud of my baby boi

Taikogane Sadamune

Sada-chan’s nightmares don’t come as often as like Yagen or Fudou. While those two will have them much more frequently, and they are beyond violent, Sada-chan’s creep up on him. They start off fine and then creep into unsettling and terrifying. Yes Sada-chan does wake up with a start and sometimes a scream, with tears streaming down his eyes, but he won’t hesitate to seek someone out.

Like Yagen, he will try not to disturb the rest of the Dategumi sleeping in his room. If you and Taikogane are close during this time, he won’t hesitate to see you out, running into your room or office where you are, knocking on the door - quiet and reserved, different from the norm. When he does enter the room, there is a forced smile to his lips, big and proud - yet not reaching his eyes.

He will plop himself down beside you, silent for a moment, unable to look you in the eye before leaning against you. He will begin shaking lightly during this time, trying to keep his tears in, it won’t look cool if he starts to cry! “Master...am I annoying?”

One of Taikogane’s biggest fears (other than to be forgotten like Micchan) is more or less being a burden to everyone. He is hyper-active, a showstopper, proud of himself, but sometimes he wonder if that’s too much for the people around him. Yes he fears the rest of the Dategumi dying or hurt but Gods forbid the dreams where he thinks everyone hates him. Perhaps it’s a childish fear, but he cannot help but worry about it.

Hug him during this time, gently assure him that you love him dearly (platonic or familial) soothe his worries as much as you can dear Saniwa.

If Sada-chan does end up waking the Dategumi from his screams, they jolt awake immediately. It is Micchan is is awake first then Tsurumaru with Ookurikara very close behind. They will ask what is wrong and though Taikogane will try to play it off, smiling all the while - it is Tsurumaru who brings Sada-chan into his arms first. In a way, they all take turns hugging the boy, calming him down. Kara-chan will give him soft sideways hugs, no teasing for Kuri today, Taikogane more importante. 

Those dreams where everyone leaves him, tells him to his face that he should not be here, or snide comments, they hurt Sada-chan’s pride. He can only bounce back so much after all. His energy is finite despite how boundlessly adorably bouncing he is. He worries that he may be forgotten like Micchan one day, but he worries the most about if he’s annoying or not.

Those are the nights when each of the Dategumi will also take turns cuddling him, rocking him to sleep. Most of the time the duty falls on to Micchan and Tsurumaru, sometimes Ookurikara will do so in his own way - taking Sada-chan out for a walk to clear his eyes and give him some choice words about his worries.

In the morning after and maybe a couple of days after that, Taikogane will be much more subdued. He will be a lil bit more quiet than normal, preferring to stay near you or the Dategumi instead of interacting with everyone else.

But slowly does Sada-chan come outta his shell, the boundless energy he’s known for coming back. He’s doing his best because of the people he loves and the people that love him back!

Delving into the nightmares headcanons I made for Yagen too. @rexcaliburechoes‘ essays on these guys are waaay better than i could ever come up with. Dedicated to rexy because I couldn’t have done this without em. I kept this kinda short because....my hEART HURTS IM SORRYYYY

Shokudaikiri MItsutada

Micchan being shaken to tears is rather easy. Look at his nightmares. Of the earthquake of his breaking of...of a lot. You two being together or not, Micchan tends to wake up in tears because of these nightmares. They hurt him so so bad.

It’s worse when you two have a close relationship, romantic or not. Micchan has nightmares about you. Of your death and that’s a given. But if you die, he thinks that he failed you. That he is supposed to be this cool sword, ingrained in the memories of people to not forget him. He worries that you will indeed forget him and take the memory of him to your grave

It’s the same with the Dategumi and the people around him he’s become close to. Nightmares of their deaths.

But to be honest I think the thing that makes Micchan cry the most (other than the nightmares) are earthquakes and the idea being useless - of failing.

Going back to the serious Micchan headcanons I made, Micchan cannot handle the idea of coming back from a fight and just...not being able to protect someone. He internalizes things a lot and it’s really not healthy. He brushes off concerns of others, claiming that he’s alright. If the Dategumi gets hurt during a night, of course he’s going to not take it all that well. It’s his fault. What if they fucking died?

It takes a lot for Micchan to cry, but sometimes the tears just come out? He hides them for so long that sometimes it’s just building and building and building until the dam bursts and he’s just found crying in the middle of the kitchen?

He tries to cry alone though, no one should see him like this. He won’t look cool if he cries, showing weakness to the people around him. They’re going to think lowly of him, disgusted at his weakness.

Yagen Toushirou

Yagen, like Micchan, internalizes his feelings a lot. He won’t admit that he’s crying or anything and it’s rare for him to even do that at all. It hangs in his heart, a weight - a stone to a sinking ship. Except the stone is like a fucking meteor that is plummeting him down faster into the depths and he’s drowning and he can’t breathe and one wrong step he’ll choke himself on the chains- Yagen does not cry.

When he does though, it’s...quiet. He is a protective sword, a close combat fighter. If anything happens to his brothers he would be devastated. If anything happened to Ichi-nii he would almost want to die. He’s calm, collected, and put together. Crying is a business he isn’t made for.

If you two are close and you’re hurt? Yagen will shed some tears for you for his brothers - then it’s back to normal Yagen. He has to shove them aside, they’re useless in the face of battle.

It’s rare for him to actually sob, it’s collected tears at the corner of his eyes. Tears he doesn’t know are coming, a foreign sensation. It begins soft, maybe there’s some heart-wrenching whimpers but most of the time it’s quiet; a hand over his mouth to prevent him from being heard. He cannot be heard. He cannot be found crying. That just isn’t him.

If anything if there is an instance where he is in fact brought to tears it centers around his brothers or you, when either one of you are injured - or worse, a brother broken. Again he will go on a walk to try and clear his head, to be brave in front of the rest of the citadel. He is stronger than this, one of the most mature of the tantou. Then it just...comes out.

The sobs are a little louder this time when he cries of a broken friend or of a broken brother, of how he failed to protect them - or how he could have protected you better. He beats himself up about this a lot.

Yagen’s tears are silent, creeping up on him, invisible. It doesn’t seem like he’s crying half of the time but you need to catch him and hold him during that time.

Koryuu Kagemitsu

Koryuu will admit that he has some abandonment issues and issues with himself in general. He was once considered a fake just because he was in the possession of a peasant family.His entire life he’s been passed from one person to the next, like Souza in a way. While Souza is much more melancholic about it, Koryuu portrays it in a way that seems alright?

If anything, Koryuu is just a lonely soul. He’s had many masters and none of them were....good? He wishes for a saniwa that is pure and honest.

So telling him a lie will honestly crack his trust in you. Not being up front with him will also cause him to not resent you but become distant.

If anything, Koryuu cries whenever someone else cries. He shares their pain, he cannot handle it if someone is hurting. He wants to make them happy. It’s almost Tsuru-like in a way but for Koryuu, he’s a bleeding heart. They shouldn’t feel such a thing.

Koryuu rarely cries. He doesn’t hide it like Yagen or Micchan above, but it’s more so along the lines of he can openly cry in front of others.

But what gets him is the fact that his journey to find his one true master, the master he can trust above all us might be...fruitless? All of his masters are poor, betrayed, demonized, or died horrible deaths. When this reality sets in, that he’s just only to be passed from one person to the next, no real home in sight - that scares him the most. Romantic relationship or not with Koryuu, he’s scared because he can’t find a place to belong to. That is what scares him the most.

It’s when this thought settles into him, that a home or a one true master does not exist because it can’t. Humans are flawed, one may think that they are just but the other party views them as demonic - does Koryuu begin to cry. He’s chasing after a dream that he knows isn’t real, he buries it under being all free-spirited, to try and breathe hope and life back into that goal of his. In the end though, he’ll never find it.

Hello again!! I'm so happy that you enjoyed the previous ones!! They are always such a blast to write.

♡  Yagen wouldn't be at your café often but would show up from time to time. Normally when he was with some of his younger siblings (only like two because OH GOD). He would often be busy at the citadel doing any work you assigned him for that day or working on new medicine.

♡  Yagen has rarely any time to take a break. He is very much so a workaholic. You will always see him working on something, so it takes his brothers a lot of begging to get him to stop. When they do, it's to go to the café where you work. A lot of the younger swords miss you a lot when you are not at home.

♡  Yagen will take the chance of coming to visit you as a chance to buy stuff at stories for medicines he is working on or maybe a book to help him study. So often times, they will come into the café with some bags that he bought just before coming in.

♡  He will make sure that his younger siblings don't bother you when you are working! He will buy them a small dessert while ordering some tea for himself. He doesn't want to cause more trouble for you because he knows you are working hard to support everyone at the citadel and really admires you for it.

♡  That being said, he does worry about you a lot. Don't be surprised if you feel eyes on you while you work. As soon as you look over at him, he will advert his eyes and pretend he was just reading. In actuality he was trying to study your body language and facial expressions to make sure you aren't overworking yourself.

♡  They will stay at your café for about an hour, at most. Before he gathers them up and says one last goodbye before taking them home.

♡  When you do get home, you are not allowed to work all that much. He understands you have to do paperwork and assign jobs for the swords but he will make extra sure you are taking breaks and eating properly. So don't be surprised if you see him much more often around you after you get back. He will make sure to bring you tea, snacks, and maybe some sleeping medicine at night if you can't fall asleep.

♡  Customers are relatively patient and understanding, so he often doesn't have to worry all that much when you are working.

♡  So expect a very shocked Yagen walking into the café and seeing hot coffee being poured on you when the customer gets so angry for getting the order wrong. Shock quickly turns into pure anger. He will push his younger siblings away before dashing over to the scene.

♡  Yagen is one of the fastest Tantous. You won't even see him. It will be a blur in front of your eyes before you finally realize that Yagen had just dashed from the door to the other side of the café and right into the man. The man now knocked out, laying against the wall he was just driven into by Yagen.

♡  The anger quickly fades from his face since the man is no longer his concern. His attention is quickly brought over to you, worry on his face and he doesn't even attempt to hide it. His gloved hands with quickly find yours, and guide you quickly to the back to help you.

♡  His siblings will follow the both of you, very concerned about you. Expect Yagen to be very quiet during this time. It will be mostly his younger siblings asking you if you are okay and having small talk to you.

♡  Yagen will hold you very gently as immerse the burns in cool water. His treatment is fast but gentle. He won't look at you in the eyes as he puts on the lotion and bandages the burn. The most he will say will asking his siblings to be a little more quiet and careful around you.

♡  The first time he will look at you will be when he gives you a pill to relieve the pain that you must be feeling. His eyes will still look insanely worried for you and you will see his mouth in a straight line, as if he is holding back emotions. He can't let you or his siblings see him cry.

♡  Yagen had to see many people hurt, almost all of them being people he cares about deeply. Sometimes, they wouldn't make it and break/pass away. He knows you are fully human and a little more fragile than him and the rest of the swords. It is only then, when seeing you hurt, does he realize how terrified he is about losing you.

♡  Yagen had lost his previous master and his mastered used him to die. He doesn't want to lose you too. He is no longer just a blade, he can make sure he can protect you.

♡  After his emotions are more under control, he will declare; "My siblings care about you a lot. All the swords care about you a lot." He will look down as he continues, "I care about you a lot. So get better soon and when situations like that happen and get too dangerous... It's okay to run away and rely on us. It doesn't make you weak. So don't go pushing yourself too far or else I won't forgive you. There is only so much I can help heal..."

♡  When you get home, you will have your own personal nurse around. Yagen will be around much more now. He will make sure you have everything you need and make sure you aren't working too much so your wounds can heal. He is also going to be the sword that is constantly changing your bandages and making sure you are taking your medicine and resting. He isn't going to allow him to back sass him either. You are following HIS orders until you fully heal.

♡  He isn't going to prevent you from working or going back to the café, though. He knows you are responsible and will do what you wish but he wants you to be aware that everyone cares about you and will be there if you need them. As well as not pushing yourself too far.

♡  Minamoto will often times show up at the café! Normally in the afternoon with Suishinshi. Minamoto often challenges poor Suishinshi at the arcade and whoever loses has to pay for the winner's food and drink. Let's just say... Minamoto isn't the one paying often and you see a very angry sword hiding half his face in his collar because of it.

♡  Minamoto thinks it's great that you are working in the café because it seems like something you really enjoy doing! Even if it's stressful sometimes. He honestly wishes he could also work with you and help out around the café but knows that working there is on a strict schedule that he just can't follow due to being a Touken Danshi (sword warrior). He has to be prepared to work around the citadel or go off to missions any moment you say the word. He respects that too.

♡  Doesn't mean he doesn't do his own work though! He actually gets paid to win stuffed animals from claw machines for people and sometimes enters gaming tournaments around the town to try to win some money for you and the citadel. He wants to help too! In his own special way.

♡  Speaking of that, he is very good at claw machines! So if he knows you like a certain animal or character (or maybe he just thinks it's cute), he will win it for you and show it to you when he gets to the café to surprise you and bring up your day! He knows you two can't talk much while you are working but he wants to make you smile any way he can and brighten your stressful day.

♡  Even though he shows up often to the café, he doesn't stay too long. He doesn't want to take up too much of your time when he knows you are busy. He wants to relieve your stress, not add onto it.

♡  Minamoto will try to make you some of the drinks or desserts back at the citadel for when you return! It... does not taste the same. He can make it look pretty! The taste is lacking though. It's the thought that counts. He would love it if you two cook together and you teach him how to make it! Anything to get your mind off work and just enjoy your time away from it. Bonus points if you actually enjoy cooking.

♡  As everyone knows, Minamoto is actually a pretty chill person. He doesn't look for a fight and eager to welcome anyone new and let them know that he respects them. That being said, his emotions sometimes gets the best of him and doesn't want to confront them directly which might come off more passive aggressive.

♡  I bring this up because the side he shows when everything goes down will not be a pretty one.

♡  He will be having a little chat with Suishinshi as they enjoy their drinks (Suishinshi with black coffee where every time he takes a sip, it looks like he is getting hit but he has to look mature. And Minamoto with a very sweet smoothie that could probably rot your teeth if you're not careful) but then will hear the loud commotion coming not too far from them. As soon as Minamoto sees that it's you that is involved, he rushes to get up and protect you. Not wasting any moments and nearly throwing the table on it's side. The drinks that were on it, broken, on the floor.

♡  Even though he rushed, he witnesses you getting the hot coffee poured on you right in front of him. Just a little too slow to get there. Horror will be written on his face as he turns his attention to the man who just did that to you.

♡  Fury. The man lasts no chance before Minamoto has him on the floor and letting his anger get the best of him.

♡  It is Suishinshi that urges you to go into the back with a follow coworker to get your wounds handled. It is also Suishinshi that pulls Minamoto off the customer. The once angry customer is now beaten and bleeding badly. However he is still conscious and rushes to get away from the swords. Suishinshi understands how his friend his feeling but knows that he can't let his anger get the best of him... Not here.

♡  Suishinshi will be the one that goes into the back to see you and take you home. Minamoto will be no where to be found. He has to cool off before he can see you.

♡  You will find him much later, on the rooftop looking at the stars. He will be much more quiet than ever before and won't look at you if you sit next to him. It will take a while before you can hear his voice that sounds stressed, as if not wanting to let more emotions get out.

♡  "You should of ran. You didn't have to take what he was saying... You-" He would pause as he grips his cloak, "You didn't have to see that side of me."

♡  He doesn't mean to blame you and would apologize a lot when he realizes it comes off like that. He knows that it isn't /your/ fault. He has a lot of emotions welling inside of him as he thinks about the incident and now seeing your skin bandaged. He never wanted to see you hurt like that.

♡  If you touch him and get close, everything he was holding back would just break. He would be sobbing into your shoulder as he expressed how he was so scared that he was going to lose you and not protect you. How he wanted to not cause more stress for you but ended up being useless and causing so much more stress and hurt onto you. His hug will be tight but gentle to make sure to not touch any of the wounded areas.

♡  He cares about you a lot that sometimes he doesn't know how to react to some of his more darker emotions. He didn't mean for today to turn out like that. He promises to be better and make sure to never let his anger get the best of him like that again.

♡  Like stated above, Suishinshi comes to the café often with Minamoto! He will often complained that Minamoto dragged him along but in actuality, it was Suishinshi dragging Minamoto. Though, you don't need to know that he misses you often when you aren't in the citadel. He will keep that secret just between him and Minamoto. Minamoto knows not to tease him about it because he will get defensive and just not go, then gets all depressed for not seeing you. So instead, he just smiles and goes along with it. Anything for his best friend.

♡  Suishinshi still often pays for the meals and drinks when they go because Minamoto still brings him along to the arcade. If he wants to see you so bad, he has to play a few rounds with Minamoto.

♡  Although he is often angry about losing, he does cheer up quite a bit when you come over and smile at them before asking for their order. You may even see a small blush on his cheeks that he tries to hide with his collar.

♡  He still orders black coffee even though it is very clear he does not like it, at all. He wants to impress you and show you that he is very mature and can handle bitter foods/drinks! Though you can see Minamoto often laughing at him for trying to drink his cup and making a face each time... HE WILL DRINK IT ALL. He will not back down.

♡  Even after Suishinshi and Minamoto leave after their order, you will find him outside the café around closing time. He will act like he just came back to do some shopping but he will not be holding anything. He is really just looking for an excuse to be with just you and walk you home after work. Don't point it out, he has an image to uphold!!

♡  Will wrap his cloak/jacket around you if it's cold when you both are walking home. "You shaking so much is distracting me, just take it". You won't even be shaking but he will say you were anyway. His cloak/jacket is very warm! Personal heater sword right there. Though he gets cold often but will still want you to swear the cloak/jacket.

♡  Don't be too surprised if you still him glaring at other customers when he is in the café. If he sees anyone looking at you in interest, his eyes are locked on them and he is giving them the death glare. He won't stop until they get the note. If you ask him about it, he will reply very bluntly to you with "I don't like their face."

♡  He can be very rude to those not important to him. Especially those that are trying to do something with his master.

♡  He is trying to get better at expressing his emotions! Emphasis on try. Sometimes when you both just get home and you both are hanging up your coat, hat, and taking off your shoes, he will mutter very softly for you to hear; "Good work today" before running off. You can't even ask what he said or thank him because he is already gone by the time you hear it and look over to him.

♡  He wants you to know that he supports you in everything you do but is really bad at putting that into words. Even worst with confronting you directly about it without running away. Just know that he means it every time he does get it out! He cares about you a lot more than he is able to express.

♡  So when he sees someone causing you trouble in the café one day? Oh no... He doesn't wait and gets up right away. Minamoto is the one that tries to calm him down, saying that aruji (master) can handle it. They are very capable on their own as well! That is the only reason that Suishinshi hesitates for a moment.

♡  But it is in that moment when the situation grows dire and coffee gets splashed onto you. Both swords stand there in shock for a moment before rushing forward. Suishinshi wastes no further moments and quickly knees the customer in the stomach to make them topple over, onto the ground.

♡  However, he doesn't focus on them. Instead, he turns his attention onto you and gently grabs you to rush you into the back. Minamoto is the one that deals with the violent customer (this time a little more calm but still seething).

♡  "It's okay. It's okay.." He will keep repeating as he puts cold water on your burns. You are unsure if he is trying to reassure you or himself. You will see him on the slight panic mode as he tries to help your wounds. Him shaking rather bad and dropping any item he tries to hold and help. A coworker will have to come in and actually help bandage and take care of your wounds as Suishinshi is escorted out to calm down.

♡  As soon as you come out of the room, now bandaged up, you will see him pacing back and forth in the cafe. Minamoto trying to get him to sit down and breathe. As soon as he hears the door open, his eyes shoot over to you and he runs over. Grasping you gently as he starts to go on a tangent.

♡  "A-are you okay? Are you hurt badly? Can you walk? Oh god that was dumb, of course you can. How are your eyes? Can you see? How many fingers am I holding up? Do you remember my name? My liege, do you know how worried I was about you? You shouldn't of..." He would stop and look down at the ground as he tries to catch his breath that he wasn't aware he was holding, "You shouldn't of been the one that got hurt. I should of taken the hit and your pain. I am sorry for failing you as your sword. I have no right to the title of Touken Danshi."

♡  Don't expect to continue working for a while. Suishinshi is normally one to not give affection openly but after that incident, good luck getting rid of him from your side. He will be constantly trying to help you around the citadel and not letting you touch almost anything that could hurt you.

♡  Also expect him to constantly be cuddling with you (if you allow it). It is more for him than you. He wants to make sure he doesn't lose you and protect you.

♡  There will be times where he is cuddling you from behind, with his chin resting on your shoulder and another sword will come in, telling you about missions reports. Suishinshi will be glaring at them from your shoulder. Almost like a feral cat trying to tell people to leave their owner alone.

♡  Suishinshi will say that he won't allow you to go back to work but if you really wanted to, you could. He is just very paranoid of a similar incident happening again.

♡  When/if you do start working again, expect him to be there everyday for the first good while. He won't use Minamoto as an excuse anymore and will just be there by himself. He wants to make sure to protect you! It will take a long time before he will actually distance himself from you and not be at your side all the time. You might have to talk to him to let him know that it will be okay and that it won't happen again. Even then, he will be scared and still show up fairly often. He will break the habit overtime!

Music Headcanons: Yagen Toushirou, Ookanehira, Hakusan Yoshimitsu

Yagen Toushirou

Seeing as his brothers read, midare rope him into AWT48 shenanigans all of the time, Yagen has taken up listening to random music that his brothers are listening to. Sometimes it’s earworms and you will find him humming it without a thought. He’ll shyly admit that he likes them but most of the time its stuck in his head because of his bros. 

But if you ask what kind of music does Yagen like? I personally wanna say jazz. It helps him relax and wind down after a long hard day. 

I personally headcanon that you get him a record player, he lights up and has it playing in his room/office/lab all the time. It’s instrumental most of the time, and sometimes he’ll put on classics like Louie Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and others. 

Appreciates records, has a mini collection of them. 

He isn’t against modern pop songs, oh no! There’s nothing wrong with having different tastes. If I had to pick a song he may get stuck in his head and fits the jazzy tune, it might be Entertainer by I Don’t Like Mondays. 

All of them work together to compose a song if AWT48 is performing, Yagen may take pages out of jazz songs and make like a slow song for them to dance and sing to!

Secretly enjoys heavy metal whenever he is doing work around the citadel - most found listening to it while working in the fields. No way is he going to wear ear buds around the horses, what if they eat them????

Will blast jazz and calming music for the horses as a bit of an experiment, curious as to what different music affects them and so on!

Don’t be surprised if you find him asleep in his lab while softer jazz or blues is playing in the background. 

You may find him lightly dancing to the music he plays in his lab to, will try to hide it though fufufu.

Ookanehira

Hirahira is also a man who prefers music when he does something. Fieldwork, chores, exercise, training, so on and so forth! His preferences on music all depend on his mood. Though I feel he would prefer much more preppy songs, just to cheer him up and take his mind off of things. 

The first thing that comes to mind is Mind Game by Maica_n. It brings a sort of peaceful image to his head and because of its happier beat, it almost gives him energy to do everything! It makes him feel better.

It doesn’t matter what kind of beat it is, as long as the song is a banger and picks him up/is a good song to do things to, Hirahira will love it!

Will probably get into the more famous bands if the Toushirous have anything to do about it, or you. Maybe k-pop as well????

If you’ve ever looked at the lyrics of Aggrestuko’s songs, yeah he will adore those as well. He may not admit it but he adores the character and has a little charm/plushie of them in his room. Something Uguisumaru teases him about. 

He cannot handle breakup songs, they bring him down and you might see him shed a tear or two. Ookanehira will listen to them if in the mood but the mood shift is like...palpable? You go from high energy and bringing you up, giving you confidence, down to something that makes you feel like shit? Nah fam.

If he wants to sleep, Ookanehira will listen to softer ambiance noises. It helps get weird thoughts outta his head and help him get a good night’s rest. 

If there’s songs that have a good message behind them, Hirahira will also adore them!

Does like classical music, but again will use them for sleeping more than anything. 

He’s basically that one guy at the club that when a good af song comes on he’s like: “OH THIS IS MY SONG!” and dances to it. Hell, you can see him dance to it while he’s doing work!

Hakusan Yoshimitsu

As he is also roped into AWT48 shenanigans, Hakusan is also found humming to their songs and other pop songs. Compared to Yagen’s slightly shy admissions that he will admit he likes the songs, Hakusan full on blanks. “What...was I humming?” he will question when you ask him about it. Then it settles in that he was humming a song of his brothers. 

Hakusan doesn’t listen to music that often, preferring ambiance sort of noises instead. But if he had to pick, it would have to be classical music, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons comes to mind, along with classical Japanese music. It makes him feel close to home. 

Will most likely enjoy more video game soundtracks? They seem to set the mood for everything. Unravel and Unravel 2 come to my mind for Hakusan. 

Hakusan is the kind of person who doesn’t listen to music when they’re out and about like Yagen or Hirahira. He listens to them in the quiet of his room, maybe with you or a brother? If you two are dating, Hakusan will enjoy listening to soft music as he lays his head in your lap or your head in his lap! 

Sometimes he is found in Yagen’s lab, next to the record player, listening to whatever comes out of its speaker. 

Hakusan also very much appreciates records, not as much as Yagen but he does!

Tends to nod off whenever he’s listening to really relaxing music, will wake up with the music shut off and a blanket around him but he won’t mind. 

Also prefers listening to calming music while sleeping.

When it comes to more peppy pop music Hakusan is very picky. It has to fit his mood, his tastes, else he’ll drop it. Unless it’s an earworm given to him by the little ones. 

Secretly adores mainstream music though.

General Post-Kiwame!Fudou Yukimitsu Headcanons + Odagumi

Warnings: Mentions of Oda, blood, fire, mentions of Fudou’s alcoholism. Based off of this lil comic by @aonik. I’m projecting. I love him so much. ​

The minute he comes home and you wrap your arms around him in pure happiness? Fudou practically begins sobbing. You believed in him all this time????? He begins to shed joyful tears into your shoulder. Hasebe and Yagen will rub his back as Souza pats his head, all of them welcoming him home. Yagen and you will remark that you almost didn’t recognize him, which honestly means he laughs through his tears, proud of himself for coming this far.

Hell, even Hasebe (someone who he is at constant odds with) will say he’s proud of him. Fudou beams at this, a blush to his cheeks, pride swelling in his chest. He looks like a kid who just got the best score out of all of the class. Of course he’ll lightly punch Hasebe in the stomach and be like, “Of course! What else did you expect from me when I set out to become stronger?!”

“You look splendid, Fudou. I am so glad you are doing well.” Souza would say with a gentle smile, and again Fudou just BEAMS I LOVE HIM. 

Like the comic above, Fudou will begin to help more around the citadel. Duties he used to shrink away from he does with a little bit more confidence. He will go out of his way to be Hasebe’s own little assistant! Bringing him tea and telling him to relax and take care of himself. Hasebe will be shook of course.

In fact, for the Odagumi who had been dealing with his shenanigans and shit since the beginning, I feel like Fudou will take extra care of them. He’s a kid who does thing via actions more so than his words, It’s his own way of thanking them, he will remember their likes and habits and dislikes, catering little snacks to them. Sometimes he will try to take over their duties for them!

Yagen honestly finds it almost odd at Fudou’s behavior. He cannot help but wonder if Fudou is trying almost too hard to make them...almost like him? Is it a sort of repentance for his drunken antics? Perhaps. But Fudou feels comfortable now giving thanks and telling people he appreciates them. 

Souza finds Fudou’s behavior rather sweet. He doesn’t mind Fudou taking over his duties, it’s just another way that Fudou shows that he cares. 

In terms of being around you, Fudou will come to you in private, shoulders slumping and tensing at the same time. A weight on his chest and tears holding themselves back. He will bow at his waist, apologizing for all of the trouble he has caused you. Just hug him. Please. For me. 

This kind of apology extends to the Odagumi as well. He will gather them all in his room and apologize to them, swearing to make up for it. He’s holding back tears during this and a simple pat on the head from Hasebe, Yagen, or Souza just causes all of the waterworks to overflow. It’s one of the few times he finds himself oh so vulnerable in front of his former comrades.

Despite all of this, Fudou does have times when he doesn’t think he’s good enough. He’ll bounce back faster than his past self, smacking himself in the face and thinking, “It won’t do to be sad! I’m stronger now, and while these moments do happen, I have promised myself to never let the things that happened to Nobunaga-sama ever happen again to me or my master and my friends!” 

He won’t lie, the nightmares still plague him. During these moments of the night, Fudou will want to reach for alcohol again but instead will go to Hasebe or Yagen for help, most likely the latter as Yagen was there when Nobunaga was ya know, ending his life. 

His interactions with Souza are softer, since Souza is a very withdrawn person in general and isn’t the biggest fan of Nobunaga himself. Fudou won’t talk much about their previous master around him, but will be found complimenting his beauty and brushing his hair. Fudou was merely a piece of art, Fudou can relate to that and while Fudou was loved oh so much, Souza was just...there. 

Fudou does become somewhat of a chatter box after his kiwame, but around Souza he’s a lot more quiet. Souza was there for him when Fudou was being a lil shit, so Fudou wants to be there for Souza and the rest of the Odagumi too! He’ll always tell Souza that he’s an amazing and try to make him smile at least once. Will actively try to get closer to Souza’s brothers to help cheer him up. 

Fudou shied away from the rest of the Awatagushi before but now he’ll happily join them in their shenanigans. Yagen is shocked, shocked I say, to see Fudou begrudgingly sit still for once and let his little brothers braid and play with his hair but it’s a soft sight and it’s good for the eyes. 

In battle, Fudou does become a little bit more protective of his teammates. He absolutely rEFUSES to be useless again, or even think of himself as useless in that sense. 

If any of the Odagumi have someone they are interested in romantically, Fudou is 100000% behind them! He will research what it’s like to have feelings and help them find ways to confess! Will also be a shoulder to cry on if the object of their affections doesn’t get it/doesn’t feel the same way. He’s basically that trope of the guy behind the mic in the ear, whispering to the other what to say! 

It doesn’t mean Fudoi still isn’t some kind of trouble maker. But it’s all in good spirits. You know when Fudou dropped Taroutachi’s futon and got it all dirty in Hanamaru? Yeah he’ll be like that. He is apologetic and will do his best to make up for the mistake tenfold now. So sometimes he takes too much from the Odagumi and won’t ask for anything in return.

Hasebe and Yagen and Souza have to stop him, to remind him that they are a team. He can rely on them and it’s okay, Fudou doesn’t need to shoulder everything on his own even after Kiwame.

Hello! It’s nice to meet you! Welcome to my Touken Ranbu blog where I take requests for headcanons about the sword boys and will write some stories as well! So if you have something you wish to see, feel free to send a request in! There is some rules to address beforehand so please read it before requesting something! Thank you!

♡  I am willing to write Yandere content. However, I will not romanticize it. I will show the dark sides of it.

♡  For the tantous (little swords), I view only a few as adults who just happen to be shorter. For those, I will do romantic headcanons, but not any NSFW.
