Yeah, I don't know! Arguments that assume the protagonists could never have a real flaw or negative feeling perplex me. I don't think it's necessarily always "lazy" if a previous conflict is used and paralleled to a later conflict, but I get what you mean. I think these writers are talented, and both MK and Mei parallel Wukong and Macaque in distinct ways!

Anyhow, those are some interesting Shadow Play thoughts. LMK has a pretty big "freedom VS imprisonment" theme (RS and PIF freeing DBK, SWK being trapped under the mountain, Possession for both SWK and Macaque, LBD and her tomb, I could go on), and "an individual is trapped and loved ones try to free them" is a pattern we see over and over again. Macaque going to desperate lengths to "save" Wukong, only to realize Wukong changed in a way that he never would for Macaque, tracks.

Azure had assumed that Wukong yielded to Tripitaka rather than being subdued (ultimately doubting Wukong's ability to change), so I wonder if Macaque will think the opposite—assuming that Wukong is unwilling to be on the journey even after going through character development (ultimately doubting Wukong's ability to change).
