this is the face of a man who is connecting a lot of dots.
we know vegas had flagged porsche early on as someone to keep tabs on — he sent the assassin girl into that gala to report on porsche's skills as a bodyguard. but then we have this interaction:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
vegas is clearly baffled that his dad cares about this random bodyguard, but gun provides zero context. just a vague, pointlessly harsh order.
so vegas makes his best guess at to why gun might care, and arrives at something close to "he's a point of weakness for kinn — we can use him." and he proceeds to do just that.
then, too-late, he learns he was wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(shoutout to gun being angry about namphueng's son getting hurt while ACTIVELY hurting his own son. what a dickhead.)
i bet this new information just eats away at vegas, especially while he's trapped at the safehouse. how could he have possibly known he was supposed to keep porsche safe? when has his father EVER wanted to keep anyone safe? why the fuck is porsche so important?
once porsche hands him the photo, it all falls in place.
Tumblr media
the consequences of being left in the dark were severe for vegas. it wrecked all of his plans from the start, and vegas had no clue how much it would matter. but neither did porsche — and as vegas says himself, kinn doesn't know either. this is a secret that goes all the way to the top.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
gun cares about porsche, because gun cares about porsche's mother enough to have a photo of her in his office. and you can tell vegas is burning to know why.
sure, he says. he'll go find arthee. he'll fork up the five million in cash. he'll do whatever it takes to help porsche learn the truth of his past — because in some sense, it's vegas's past, too. and vegas wants answers.

headcanons behind fic: brother texting habits referenced in long & short
Chay holds up his phone sheepishly. “Also, your brother texted me. We’re invited to dinner.” Kim’s smile drops. He doesn’t need to ask which brother. “Did he type that out, or just send an emoji with a question mark?”
ngl, had i realized how much i'd expand this series, this is actually a scene i'd cut or at least heavily rework. it's the weakest scene of the story and its execution has only felt more clunky as time passes. hindsight! that said, i don't regret the scene either because the headcanons behind the premise of that scene are very near and dear to my heart, namely the texting rituals of Khun, Kinn, and Kim :D
the boys have a system to their texting. it's not anything as concrete as a code, that'd be far too dangerous and anxiety inducing. their system, naturally, revolves primarily around giving hints to Korn's mood without outright saying anything:
firstly, all brother invites to things go through Khun, because Khun's invites will only ever be invites and Kim's 'no's will only ever be 'no's.
anytime Korn demands Khun or Kinn (usually Kinn) drag Kim to a family thing for him go through Kinn, and 'Kinn's requests are always phrased as a question Kim can refuse. Kim once tells Kinn he'll show up if Kinn orders him to (because he doesn't actually want to get Kinn into trouble if Korn's being esp insistent), and Kinn smiles and tells him "thank you" and never ever once orders Kim join them, because Kim asked not to be involved in the family business and Kinn will take on any burden to keep Kim free of it.
Kinn passes along how insistent Korn's being through the overall tone and vibe of his messages, usually indicated by how much of it he types out. requests Kim join official functions sound like a formal invitation printed on a card, requests Kim indulge Korn playing family are much closer to Kinn's standard texting style;
because, and this is a silly headcanon i will have forever, Kinn fucking loves emojis. you know his whole "this could've been an email" vibe when he shoots that guy in the head ep1? same vibes except much cuter. Kinn thinks emojis are adorable and efficiency perfected. why send "thank you" when the 👍 emoji is right there? a picture's worth a thousand words and 🫂 is a thousand warm ones. he could send "wanna check out that new coffee shop by the studio next tuesday for brunch? their menu is 60% sprinkles so i'm sure you'll love it" but ☕🧋🎙️❔👑2️⃣🗓️🕦🍬👉💕💕‼️ is so much quicker. the only reason why Kinn's texts aren't 87% cute stickers is because he hasn't yet realized they come preprogrammed in his phone.
("do you think he speaks in hieroglyphics because he's secretly ancient?" Kim asks one day.
"how old does it make you to understand him then?" Khun snarks back.)
((Kim leaves Khun on read for a week.))
some bonus thoughts: Khun's a spam texter of the highest order. every one text is sent across 3.5 texts minimum. Kinn only ever sends one (1) text. if Kinn's replying to multiple messages in one go, he separates his responses in indv bullet points (if he's feeling petty towards Khun, he responds to every one of Khun's messages individually).
(Kinn's multiple messages to Chay in long & short are absolutely because he's watching Kim's live. for all Kim's snooping, he has somehow missed that Kinn has every alert and then some set for Wik news and while he can't make every live, he plans his breaks around them and even moved a meeting once.)
also, while Kinn pretends he's threatening/blackmailing with these baby Kim pics, this is 100% him taking advantage of the situation to gush about cute baby brother with a fellow Kim AppreciatorTM. Kinn has the cutest little brother, and he's gotta keep up with news of baby brother's current shenanigans somehow 😤👏 Khun is guilty of similar crimes ofc.
(Kim suffers older brothers so much.)

hey guys, long time no kinn & porsche fic rec list! i miss these two so much it’s not even remotely funny. as always, this list is ordered according to length (from longest to shortest), and each fic is by a different author (to share the love)! all fics that are not yet complete have been marked with (wip). lastly, make sure to read the tags, and show the authors some love! god bless y’all for my daily allotment of serotonin.  [part 8/?]
— the empty crown by rainbowcolored7 – explicit / 106.3k words (wip)
Porsche was destined to rule his kingdom, but the throne and his family were taken from him, forcing him and his brother into hiding.
Kinn chose to rule to save his family from the untouchable threat of the Council who strictly guard the power of the Source.
When their worlds collide, everything changes. Hidden plans tumble into motion, enemies become allies and, above all, love conquers.
— you were there, written in my stars by bleakyblues – explicit / 70.5k words (wip)
Kinn is your everyday, ordinary guy. Well, as ordinary as the heir to the country’s underworld can be. But the point still stands. Kinn goes to school, helps his Pa with his work, hangs out with his friends and has a huge crush on his ‘good friend’ whom he is ‘not-dating’ (yet).
Enter Porsche Pachara Kittisawat with all the grace and stubbornness of a class five hurricane. And Kinn is lost, lost, lost... caught up in the winds never to emerge again.
— freedom is a sound/pleasure is a right ‘series by baby_droll – explicit / 31k words
Kinn stares at him, and then up at the ceiling, and then back at Porsche.
“Have you considered being professional even a day in your life,” he says, sitting back down in his desk chair and rolling away enough to get some space, “I mean really and truly, do you know what it looks like, barging into my office,” Porsche cuts him off, mouthing along to his spiel, mainly because he’s heard it before, “sitting on my desk, interrupting meetings, and acting like, Porsche, people are going to think things, things you and your shiny visa can’t afford to have them thinking. things that me and my giant internship program can’t afford for them to think—”
(Or: Kinn and Porsche meet, kiss, fall in love. Only one problem—Kinn is his PhD advisor, and there’s more than a few rules about them being together.)
— the bachelor by blue_grama – mature / 25.9k words
It’s Pete who explains, the next morning over breakfast, because of course the news has spread all over the compound. “Haven’t you ever watched a mob movie?” He asks Porsche, gesticulating with a spoon. “They have all the money they could ever need, but they can never get respectability. The old-money types look down on them. The new-money types take their bribes, but they don’t let them into the inner circle. This is public relations.”
“A kinder, gentler mob?” Porsche laughs. “Come on.”
“They’ll use it to look nonthreatening, highlight the legitimate businesses, that sort of thing,” Pete says. He lowers his voice. “Everyone knows the Theerapanyakuls are dirty, but if they’re on television, how dirty can they be, right? And… I don’t know, but Khun Korn is strange about Khun Kinn’s love life. Maybe he’s trying to keep him in line somehow.”
— i’m not a saint, but i pay like a sinner by haeseolar – explicit / 25.4k words
“I’m not sure how a lowly human like you called me, but here I am,” His voice is deep, but not gruff or harsh like he was expecting. Porsche doesn’t have many preconceptions about demons as a whole, but everything he holds is being completely turned upside down and thrown out the window.
“Who are you?” Porsche croaks out, somehow finding his voice.
The demon’s eyes sharpen as he speaks, the slitted black pupils contracting and opening again like a cat’s. It’s just as fascinating as it is unnerving.
“You’re the one that called my name,” He shrugs, gesturing around the room flippantly.
“Anakinn,” Porsche says, the name rolling off his tongue smoothly. “You’re Anakinn.”
— scale and bone by ahdriking – explicit / 25.2k words (wip)
Fairy tales aren’t real. There are no happy endings. These are the truths Kinn knows.
Ever since stepping into power, Kinn has been suspicious of the Russians—led by Mikhail Alexeyev—operating in Bangkok, suspecting them of stealing from him. He sends Kim to investigate, and the truth turns out to be much worse than his initial fears. He resolves to destroy them, even at the risk of all out war; he can do no less if he wants to avoid appearing weak.
It starts with reconnaissance at Alexeyev’s party, an event promising a ‘grand spectacle.’ Kinn is expecting something appropriately depraved, suitable for the Russian mobster and his tastes, but nothing could have prepared him for the reality of what Alexeyev has been hiding. Nothing could have prepared him for the way it will change his life forever.
Because fairy tales aren’t real.
Until they are.
— moonchild (we’re born in the moonlight) by wicca – explicit / 24.1k words
“Let me walk you home, then,” Kinn offers, recalling the recent accidents and all the superstitions he’d heard about the forest ever since he was a boy. “Even if you live close by, these woods can get dangerous. You should always get home before nightfall.”
“Trust me,” Porsche smiles, teeth sharp and brown eyes glittering an almost golden hue under the late afternoon light. “I’ll be fine.”
He lets Kinn walk him home anyway.
— desire is so different when god bore you hungry ‘series by captainkit – explicit / 20.6k words
“Let’s get out of here,” whispered Kinn. His eyes were so very kind. Porsche wanted to keel over with the hunger gnawing at his bones. The kindness in his eyes made him ache a little more.
“Okay,” he whispered back.
Starvation was an old friend of Porsche’s.
— force of attraction by nuwildcat – explicit / 14.3k words
Gravity (noun): the universal force of attraction acting between all matter.
Porsche never was the best student in school. She’ll be the first to admit that hands on lessons were always the ones that best made things ‘stick’ for her.
Porsche isn’t certain she wants to know whatever lesson Kinn Anakinn Theerapanyakul is trying to teach her. The problem is, resisting Kinn is like trying to stop a force of nature: impossible.
— if i go too far by p1n3appl3_p3n – explicit / 13.9k words
Kinn and Porsche are friends that fuck, and it’s totally fine until it isn’t.
— red-handed by martynax – explicit / 12.3k words
“Hello, gentlemen,” Porsche finally manages to find his voice and is proud of himself that he comes off as cool and collected. He doesn’t really feel like it, but as long as no one is pointing a gun at him, he can roll with whatever. He’s good at bullshitting his way out of tough situations. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
The corner of the stranger’s mouth ticks up in amusement, eyes taking in Porsche’s silhouette. It’s a slow once-over that makes Porsche’s skin tingle.
The stranger takes a slow sip of the whiskey, tipping the glass elegantly and smacks his lips after he swallows. “It’s not bad.”
“Want a refill?” Porsche proposes, waving his hand at the almost empty tumbler while he slowly starts approaching the couch. He feels awkward just standing there. The two guys in black suits tense up, but make no move to stop him. Not giving his unwelcome guest time to answer, he adds, “I’ll do you one better, I make a mean cocktail. How about I make you one?”
“Such a kind host,” the man muses, titling his head as he observes Porsche. “Do your best, little thief.”
— all of me (is all for you) by kurtstiel – explicit / 10k words
The water has saturated Porsche’s white shirt completely, soaking through the vest beneath. The translucent material clings obscenely to the swell of his pecs. His nipples are clearly visible through the sheer material, hard and pebbled, with the unmistakable shape of the metal barbells pierced either side of them.
Porsche’s head jerks up to check if he can still hide them from Kinn, but it’s already too late. Kinn is standing across the room, staring in Porsche’s direction, entire body coiled tight like a spring.
(Or: While Kinn is away on a business trip, Porsche gets his nipples pierced as a surprise for their anniversary. Kinn comes home earlier than Porsche expected.)
— whatever else that touches you by technicallyverycowboy – explicit / 9.4k words
“No, it’s fine.” Porsche shifts to be a little less plastered against Kinn’s side, straightens his shoulders and smooths out his jacket with great dignity. “The answer to your question is yes, I have really never been with any other men.”
(Or: Porsche answers questions, asks some of his own, tries new things, and fills in the knowledge gaps of his own sexuality.)
— i’ve been waiting for you, to slip back in bed by dearsidewalk – explicit / 5.5k words
Porsche is sound asleep on their bed, the cityscape casting a soft, warm glow against his skin, dipping and arching with his silhouette. Kinn sags, hands falling to his side, but that itch hasn’t faded—that heaviness in his chest, stomach, and throat multiplies, malignant and spreading, and in a blink of an eye, he’s at Porsche’s side.
— the sweetest thing on this side of hell by butterflylungs – explicit / 3.3k words
Being vulnerable with Kinn is always a dangerous game: she never knows when it’s going to be thrown in her face. After the forest, she thought—well. But Kinn had given her to Vegas, cold and stone-faced from her perch on the couch, still attached to an IV line after taking a fucking bullet for her.

This line. This one line for me colored all the rest of Porsche's journey in this show. This one line really grabbed me and percolated in the background of my mind throughout the rest of the series, because, seriously?? Who says that to their kid? Why make it obvious that you have a favorite child? Porsche was 10 when the "accident" happened so not only did his mother say this to her child, she said this to her prepubescent sponge of a child who will internalize just about everything.
As the rest of the series goes on, this is the line that made me think that Porsche and Chay are actually half brothers (or at least everyone but them thinks they are, including Nampheung). Bear with me here:
For context, this line came right after Kinn asked about Porsche's tattoo, and Porsche says that his mom liked phoenixes and that she talked about them all the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This context adds an element of rebirth to her directive not to "die" until Chay has graduated. Before the "accident" Chay was much too young to take in anything from such talk, so the phoenix imagery was directed solely at Porsche. So what "death" and "rebirth" was Mom expecting for her eldest?
The easiest explanation for this is that (only?) Porsche's (assumed?) father was in the mafia. We only get two real examples of Porsche's relationship with his mom pre-mafia-events and they both revolve around phoenix imagery: the sauna scene, and the memory scene where she tells him to "Grow up and fly with freedom, be strong and immortal like a phoenix."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When she talks to child!Porsche she talks of being strong, being free, of dying and rebirth. She's preparing him for the trial of being hunted/taken by the mafia. She's instilling the yearning for freedom, and the idea that no matter how hard or how bad it gets (death), it won't last forever (rebirth). In telling Porsche not to die until Chay has his degree, she wasn't suggesting that Porsche is worth less to her than Chay. I think what she's asking is that no matter what happens, Porsche should try to make sure that Chay is set up for a good life away from the mafia. Porsche cannot die (be subsumed by the mafia) until Chay finishes his degree (is independent of the mafia). Because no matter what happened to her, the mafia would be coming for Porsche sooner or later. Which they did. And they did only come for Porsche.
Being half brothers would help explain the way the mafia was completely focused on Porsche and only treated Chay as an information source on Porsche/hostage for Porsche's behavior. Korn only mentions Chay as part of the deal for Porsche to work there (ep1) or as a carrot after punishment (ep5). Because he was important to Korn as Porsche's brother, not as Nampheung's son. If Korn's and Gun's obsession with Nampheung was the reason for bringing Porsche in, then they would have done the same with Chay.
(Is it possible for Korn to also already have other plans for Chay? Absolutely. That fucker is a fucker. But once he had Porsche he said that all the pieces were in place. Chay had not been secured as a piece on the board.)
(Also, I don't think Chay's age would be a barrier for Korn/Gun; they're not waiting for him to get older before doing to him what Korn did to Porsche. For one, Macau goes to the same school Chay does. For two, Chay is at least 18 and applying to university. I don't think a year or two will phase the mafia. Especially since Vegas' goons had no problem kidnapping him, twice!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Porsche was deliberately hunted, kidnapped, and manipulated into the mafia because of who he is. Chay only experienced any of these to the extent he did because of his relationship to Porsche. Nampheung knew that the mafia really had no inherent interest in Chay, and that Chay could be permanently Out of the mafia (except, you know, for him stalking crushing on Kim who is also wrong in thinking you can get out of the mafia).
So if the interest from Korn/Gun in Porsche is not from being Nampheung's son, then why? Why does Korn want Porsche working there and being happy? Why does Gun want Porsche to switch sides and come to Gun for "protection"? Who do they think Porsche is?
In semi-related meta, this also makes me think that Porsche's dream is not so much A Bar on the Beach specifically, but that it represents the freedom to live for himself. He specifies a private beach, where he opens when he wants, closes when he wants, and serves what he wants. Where his actions aren't constrained by other people at all. He took Nampheung's directive to heart and has been living his entire life for Chay. He only had a few more years to go for Chay to get his degree, for Porsche's life to be his own. But then he was kidnapped by the mob to live the rest of his life for them.

Gay wrongs tournament, round one of the losers bracket
Propaganda:
For Kinn and Porsche:
First of all, Mafia prince meets poor boy whom he makes his bodyguard. They are canonically engaged. Some might say they're not that bad, but not only have both killed people without hesitation, they went into scenarios ON PURPOSE knowing what the end result will be. By the end of it all, power couple to the skies but also 2 unrelenting Mafia heads who can and will kill you if you so much as look at their partner wrong.
look the gun tango scene, when they're in the middle of an attempted coup, and they spin around while holding each other and shooting people, is the most iconic thing ever
For Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu:
you've got the founder of the fantasy ancient Chinese CIA and the leader of what is essentially the mafia and then they're soulmates and in love. they're both willing to kill anyone who dares hurt the other while also just wanting a soft domestic life together
Zhou Zishu is an assassin and spymaster who put the current Emperor on the throne, and then quit his job by faking his death (kinda, hes still dying but not as fast as he was supposed to). Had done A Lot on his old job, including murdering children (more than one, and at least one of them in a way I can't even describe without several trigger warnings), exterminating whole families, war crimes (and i dont mean this in a buzzword way, i mean "organized a public execution of foreign diplomats during war time")… btw he doesn't feel particularly bad about any of this, because he believes it was necessary. Like he wouldn't do it for fun, but he thinks the ends (putting a good Emperor on the throne) justified the means (all of the atrocities). As a retiree, he definitely cut down on the amount of morally reprehensible murder, but not murder in general. He still routinely kills ppl, he just doesn't go out of his way to kill more. Wen Kexing, meanwhile, is the Ghost Valley Master - Ghost Valley being a place where the worst of criminals are exiled. Even in such a place, he has reputation as a complete lunatic, owed partially to the fact that he either skinned a man or fed him his own flesh or both at one point, and partially to him having a rule where he would kill anyone who came closer than 3 meters to him. But in truth, everything he'd done was to survive the Ghost Valley and eventually take revenge for his parents, who were brutally murdered when he was only nine. By the start of the novel's timeline, he put his plan in motion - the plan that would drown jianghu in blood, but also deliver poetic justice to all responsible for his parents' deaths, as well as all who'd commit the same crime given the chance. And these two men, these two murderers and schemers, meet - and unexpectedly, find in each other the person who /understands/. The person who is just as ruthless and whose hands are just as bloody, but also the person who knows standing at the top of the world is not worth it, who seeks the same freedom of leaving it all behind, and who is still, underneath it all, a human, with human heart seeking connection. So you have this couple who understand each other with barely a word, and who want the same things - who are so hungry for domesticity and for people they can just goof around with when all their lives they had to measure every step and word - but ALSO where one half a couple is like "i gotta go murder hundreds in revenge" and the other half is like "ok pick you up at 6". (This btw is why I'm submitting novel's iteration of the couple in particular. Show wenzhou with their ridiculous breakups over morality could Never.) Also they were both hiding who they are when they first met, and later flirted about having figured each other out. Finally, I'll leave you my favorite quote that just. perfectly sums up their relationship: "And just like that, they fell asleep in each other's arms, steeped in the smell of blood."
You’ve probably already had submissions for them but I’ll add on. One of them founded an assassin’s guild and killed a staggering number of people. His malewife is the leader of a sect of insane murderous outcasts, and he attained his position by proving to be the most crazy and murder happy of them all. Most of the plot involves him wandering around watching his schemes get more people killed. Together they adopt a kid that was only orphaned due to said scheming (oops). They’re terrible and I love them.

Kinnporsche Fanfic Recs
In celebration of the 2 year anniversary, here is an avalanche of Kinn/Porsche fics that I've enjoyed. Painfully incomplete & posted in no particular order. My shipping interests are 100% focused on the K/P couple and that will be reflected in my list, sorry 😘.
Deep Like a Coastal Shelf by Lilla_Torg
(79,000 words) Green Arrow inspired AU. "After five years abroad, Kinn Theerapanyakul returns to find his city under siege by a vigilante known as the Phoenix."
Stain of Sun by Lilla_Torg
(78,000 words) Omega brothers Porsche (hacker) and Chay (grifter) team up to take down the Theerapanyakul crime family. Things do not go as planned. // This marries A/B/O with mutant powers. As long as you're not wholly opposed to Omegaverse, give it a chance. Every one of this author's long KPtS fics is a banger.
Pouring Down Crimson Fire by Lilla_Torg
(119,000 words) Sort of a mutant AU but honestly that underplays how fucking cool this fic is. “I think you know something about keeping secrets,” said Kinn. He flashed Porsche a pocket-ace smirk. “You’re mine. Say it.”
The boy he’d been fourteen years ago would have told him where to shove it. But Porsche had been around long enough to know that the mafia always won. Still, he looked around, searching for a way out, before giving up and turning back to Kinn, those black eyes awaiting his surrender.
“I’m yours,” he said.
a perpetual unscattering by concernedlily
(31,000 words) Canon-divergence AU. “Pissing in bottles behind a cocktail bar,” Kinn said. “But Pa gave him to me, so I’m stuck with him.” To a visibly furious Porsche he said, “You don’t know the minor family? Never come across any of them before?”
“How would I know the fucking minor family?” Porsche snapped.
what a tangled web we weave by fortunehasgivenup
(80,000 words) 1000 Nights inspired alternate universe, fantasy-historical Thailand. // After the betrayal of his first husband, King Anakinn Theerapanyakul vows to never love again. Once a week, he takes a new husband, a young man who will not live to see another dawn.
When a nobleman comes to find a young man to adopt and marry off to the king in place of his own son, Thee chooses Chay.
Faced with an outcome that he refuses to contemplate, Porsche steps in and takes Chay's place. He only has one request for the king - to be allowed to tell his brother one last bedtime story.
Burn Your Name Into My Skin by Everyforkedroad
(72,000 words) In which Kinn visits a high-end sex club and he & Porsche meet under the guise of anonymity for what should be a 1 night encounter. Except not only are they intensely drawn together... things are not what they seem.
Salt by ronandhermy
(49,000 words) Sweat stings because the salt is purifying. Porsche may be in high school but he is still a National Champion in Taekwondo and he catches the eye of the national team's newest sponsor: The Theerapanyakun Family. Alternate first meeting. Leans into the darkness of canon, read the tags and proceed w caution.
how do you like it, daddy by Baby_Droll
(28,000 words) "and ain't shit 'bout me cheap and ain't shit 'bout me free" - our lord and savior, florence millicent. kinn & porsche, and all the other pieces on their fucked up chess board. a sugar baby/daddy au with an omegaverse twist. // This is a dark reimagining alternate universe. Iconic toxic K/P fic.
two shots by Martynax
(81,000 words) AU, different first meeting. Porsche joined the armed forces & became a hired gun. // “So I’m supposed to end a mafia dispute?”
“Something like that,” he mutters, wondering if he’s making a mistake, revealing it to Porsche so soon. Nothing is set in stone, after all. But he has a gut feeling that the man appreciates honesty and simplicity much more than intrigue and schemes.
be the best you ever tasted by Martynax
(90,000 words) an AU where Porsche's life is shit so he shakes his perky little bum for strangers at a strip club and Kinn books him for a private show. Porsche doesn't fuck customers and shouldn't get associated with whatever grey business his boss is trying to run out of the club. But... you know how this is gonna go.
between the sheets by DasWarSchonKaputt
(70,000 words) “And who’s that?”
“Oh. That’s Porsche. He’s Khun Kinn’s live-in boytoy. He’s harmless, mostly. Just a pretty face.”
A boyfriend can go so many places a bodyguard can’t. As the threat of a potential leak in their security forces looms large, Khun Korn hatches a plot to place an added layer of protection around his heir presumptive. Enter Porsche, former bartender, current bodyguard, and reluctant fake boyfriend of Kinn Theerapanyakul.
Stumbling to the Edge by FireRisingOverTheHills
(51,000 words) Of the genre of KP fics where Kinn and Porsche meet-cute in a random bar encounter, instead of a meet-ugly, this one is my fav. I just really enjoy the Kinn PoV with his what?! is?! happening??? vibes as he finds himself irresistibly drawn to someone who doesn't fit neatly into defined roles.
"He makes this all seem like it’s perfectly normal and Kinn is helpless to do anything but go along with it."
Whatever Else that Touches You by technicallyverycowboy
(9,330 words) Tender established relationship and bisexual self discovery, post canon. // "No, it's fine." Porsche shifts to be a little less plastered against Kinn's side, straightens his shoulders and smooths out his jacket with great dignity. "The answer to your question is yes, I have really never been with any other men."  Porsche answers questions, asks some of his own, tries new things, and fills in the knowledge gaps of his own sexuality.
An Elegant Mechanism by Laughsalot3412
(87,000 words) A/B/O AU, Kim centric with some background K/P and dysfunctional brothers & cousin bonding. The only fic on this list that isn't K/P primary. //  "Kim was only an omega when he was luring people closer to his gun. No one had to give Kim a weapon. He was one.  (Kim's mission is to get close to Porchay Kittisawat. Chay is not a typical alpha. Kim is not a typical omega. Kim isn't having feelings and Chay is going to be so normal about all of this.)"
Love and Violence by thewayside
(9,500 words) Beautifully written, post ep 14. // "Love and violence have always been bedfellows for Kinn. Down to how his first proper relationship ended in a pool of blood. Porsche’s beauty might have drawn him in, but he knows in his gut that he met someone in kind that first night, blood coursing through their veins as the fight ended and Porsche led him onto a bike to a road he barely knew."
Burnished night, blood-soaked stars by The_Old_Astronomer
(13,000 words) Missing scene set between the end of episode 6 and the side story (pre-ep 7). Porsche fights to keep Kinn alive after the attack, and gradually realises how much the other man means to him.

Babytrapping
Vegas is in the hospital when Venice is born and abandoned. Pete sees this small Vegas and decides he needs that. It must be his. Since no one else is in a hurry to claim it, the Main Family lets him have it. Paperwork gets processed and little Venice now belongs to Pete.
When Vegas first wakes up, he’s very high on pain meds. He’s still high when he’s introduced to Venice. This is where it all starts because Vegas wants to know whose baby it is and starts crying when he hears it’s Pete’s because Pete found someone else.
Pete did not expect this. Pete’s original plan was to have a small part of Vegas if things didn’t work out and if it did, he expected Vegas to want to keep his brother. Vegas was always the intended other parent and he has no idea what to say in the face of that intended parent asking who the other parent is.
Macau butts in and says obviously the other parent is you Hia. Vegas is so startled he stops crying. What? Obviously you’re the other parent, Macau says, he looks exactly like you. And it’s true, Venice does have a strong resemblance to Vegas. (Pete considers trying to explain the actual situation but decides to shelve that for after Vegas is not so high)
High Vegas does not remember that babies can’t be made between two men. But he does remember how babies are made and thinks Venice was conceived at the safehouse. His baby. And Pete’s. He wants it so much.
He dotes on Venice, demands to see him almost as much as he sees Pete. Macau thinks this is hilarious. Pete is a little stressed. Until Macau asks him later if this is a bad thing. And he considers. Vegas wants him, wants Venice. Does not seem inclined to start another war in rage. Does it matter if he thinks the baby is Pete’s? He decides it doesn’t. In fact, he decides he should keep the baby’s actual origins from Vegas as long as possible and keep perpetrating this idea that Venice is from him. This is what he wanted after all, to raise this child with Vegas. Why fix what works?
At some point, Vegas stops being on drugs and starts thinking. Because Venice can’t be from him and Pete. But he hasn’t slept with a woman and Venice undeniably resembles him. Where did this baby come from? He considers asking Pete but something in him melts when Pete calls Venice our baby and he doesn’t want to ruin that. Still, it troubles him until Macau gets the source of it out. Does it matter Hia? Does it bother you that P’Pete is basically baby trapping you? It doesn’t bother him. Actually, it pleases him that Pete went so far to get a baby to try to keep him with him. Where the baby came from doesn’t matter, he decides. What matters is that Pete grabbed a baby and tried to pass it off as theirs. What matters is that Pete felt uncertain about his position in his life and tried to bind them together. Venice is the proof of Pete’s love for him, even if he wasn’t conceived at the safehouse.
And so, both of them happily go along pretending that Venice is the product of Vegas and Pete and Macau is happy to continue this idea too. He has a happy family at last and he’s not going to jeopardize that by bringing up that Venice is from their hated stepmother.
They continue along so happy and sure in their decision that Venice is from Pete and Vegas that it starts unintentionally gaslighting other people. Because how Venice came to be and how Pete got custody was kept very low key, few people actually know how it happened. And two of them just started the rumor of it being a biological child. People are now starting to question whether Pete is biologically male or whether men can get pregnant. Tankhun decides it’s unfair his cousin has a baby and he also wants to be an uncle. He starts pestering Kinn and Porsche. Porsche especially is very freaked out by this and marches over to Kinn to try to get him to make it stop. Kinn tries to explain to the situation but Tankhun scoffs. As if Vegas would love the child of his hated father and stepmother that much. It has to be Pete’s. Pete said it was. And it’s undeniably Vegas’. The baby must be why Pete left. Tankhun sweeps out to go look for Porsche.
Kinn decides this can only be resolved by correcting Vegas and Pete. It does not go as expected. Because Pete is adamant that Venice is his. And Vegas is realizing that this probably is where Venice came from. But it doesn’t change the fact that Pete is using this baby to claim him. That Venice is the symbol of Pete’s love for him. If Pete wants to baby trap him by claiming that Venice is his child with Pete, he’s more than willing to go with it.
Pete meanwhile knows Vegas and Macau hated their stepmother and doesn’t want to risk the happy family they’ve started building. Besides, Venice is his. The mother that abandoned him doesn’t get to claim him. Venice is proof of Vegas’ love for him because he surely knows that the baby can’t actually be his child with Pete. But he loves Pete enough to keep up this lie and raise and love a baby that, for all he knows, Pete randomly kidnapped from the hospital nursery. He loves Pete enough to bind them together forever with this baby. Venice is proof of how much Vegas loves him and he will fight Khun Kinn over it. Venice is their baby, the symbol of their love.
Venice’s origins remain a mystery years into the future because both parents continue to claim he was conceived by them and that he’s the child of their love. And he is, just not in the way everyone else thinks he is.
Meanwhile, Macau, the mastermind who engineered this, is happy that he manipulated both of them into baby trapping each other so he could have a happy family at last.

“Your teeth are going to rot at this rate, p’Kim," Chay says, eyeing Kim’s drink critically as they sit down at a table in the back corner of the tea shop.
“I’ve got a good dental plan,” Kim says, taking a sip. “And it’s worth the risk.”
Chay perks up, leaning forward in his chair eagerly. “You like the classic flavour then?”
Kim hums, looking down at his drink and using the straw to mix the little pearls around the bottom of the cup. “The tapioca pearls are a little weird, but the flavour of the tea is nice.”
Chay beams at him.

“I don’t really know what to do with myself. I still love music, but I’m not sure it’s something I want to pursue as a career after all. I wanted to be what your music was to me and help people and be there for them when they need it most... but I'm not sure being a musician is how I want to achieve that goal.”
Kim shifts uncomfortably in his seat at the piano, Chay’s guitar is abandoned to the side, long forgotten in the wake of their conversation. Kim doesn’t regret asking Chay about his gap year, but he wishes he didn’t feel so responsible for causing Chay to drop his university interview. Chay had just finished telling him about how Kim’s rejection was only one of several reasons he did so, but he still feels that responsibility like a sharp knife to his chest. He’s also unsure if Chay is just downplaying his involvement in light of their rekindled not-relationship.
“Do you think you will go back next year?” He asks hesitantly.
“Yeah,” Chay replies. “I want to, but I need to figure out everything else first. Music was a pipe dream to a future with hia that helped get us through some tough times, but it’s not a realistic future. Not for me anyway.”
Kim looks down at his hands.
“But.. I still want to keep making music, p’Kim. I like making music with you and coming here to jam regularly."
Kim looks up and makes eye contact with Chay's warm expression for a moment before looking away, unsure what to say. A light smile tugging at his lips and a warm feeling in his chest.

November 21st, 8:08pm
Kim has been strumming around on his guitar for hours now, feeling uninspired but with an unquenchable urge to create. His cat, Jimbo, has been sleeping on the sofa, only waking breifly every now and then to groom.
He thinks of his brothers.
Khun and his melodrama that at times feels more like a front than genuine feeling. Khun’s been messaging him recently with requests to come visit and watch a new series that dropped. Apparently it’s a BL that he just “has to watch, Kim. It’s about the mafia! It looks very cool and romantic!”
He should make time for him next week.
He thinks of Kinn, his desperate need to please their pa clouding his view forward. Kinn would resent him for saying it, so he doesn’t, but sometimes he thinks Kinn stands as more of a pawn to their father than he even realises. His agency a part of a larger, more complicated plan. Porsche is also part of that plan, though Kim isn't sure the romance had been anticipated.
Kim does his best to keep Kinn safe from a distance, the details of Kinn’s month’s schedule in a short, neat stack on his desk across the room.
He thinks of Chay and their developing not-relationship. He doesn’t know what to think of some of their interactions lately, but Kim has been feeling that simmering hope boil within him with each message, each not-date, each little smile…
He looks down at his note book, chords written down messily. They sound nice, but they feel a little hollow and unexciting.
Kim has an idea.
He hesitates a little, but then hits record on his voice recorder app, plays his notebook chords, and sends them to Chay before he can psyche himself out of it.
He loves making and talking music with Chay, why should he limit sharing that to their studio sessions? Chay has a habit of saying just the right thing that sparks Kim’s creative flow, and sometimes just talking to Chay gets him out of his head.
Tumblr media
Kim smiles down at his phone softly. God.
-------------------
November 22nd, 7:30pm
"Hey" Kim says into the his phone. He has it wedged between his cheek and his sholder while he uses both hands to chob vegetables.
"Hi!" Chay's chipper voice comes through the speaker, "what are you up to, p'Kim?"
He slides the chopped carrots into a small bowl, moving on to the red capsicum. "I'm cooking dinner. Pad Phak."
"P'Kim, you cook?" Chay sounds surprised which... okay fair. Kim is a child of wealth and living in the very building Kim grew up in, Chay has seen first hand how meal times tend to work.
"Mmm. I like it, it's fun."
"Oh my God" Chay breathes quietly into the mic. Kim isn't sure what to make of that. He thinks it's a good thing... Chay sounded almost awed. Does Chay like it that Kim can cook?
He suddenly feels a little proud of himself, and maybe slightly pompous. "I'll cook for you sometime," he says, "I make a really good pad kra pao."
"Yes!" Chay says excitedly, causing Kim to jump. He continues in a softer tone "I'd love that, p'Kim."

The kid was a skinny little scrap of a thing with a mean face. A pretty face, but mean, twisted up around the edges with suspicion and arrogance. He came unarmed. Porsche still didn’t understand it. Surely the boy should know better than to come here, into enemy territory, without so much as a knife in his stylish designer boot. A show of good faith, he called it. The sarcastic lilt to his voice meant Porsche hadn’t believed it.
“You’re a long way from home, Kimhan,” Porsche said. He’s reclining back in a big leather chair, one ankle crossed over his knee, a glass in one hand and a pistol in the other. Kim was standing in the middle of his office. Porsche hadn’t offered a seat and Kim didn’t take one. “Does your father know you’re here?”
“Obviously not.”
Pretty, mean, and shrewd. Everything Porsche would expect from a Theerapanyakul brat.
“Does anyone?”
“... No.”
“Really, now.” Porsche’s brows crawled up his forehead as he wondered, is this kid stupid or reckless? “I’m sure you know how dangerous that is. And admitting it, too. Little Kim all alone. What’s to stop me from holding you here, nong?”
Kim jutted his chin out defiantly, meeting Porsche’s eyes. There was no fear to be found in his own.
“You can’t use me against my father,” he said, his voice unwavering. “The second I walked out his door I was dead to him.”
“Why are you here, then?”
“To offer a deal.”
“Sounds like a trap.”
“It isn’t.”
“But it could be.”
Kim made a frustrated sound, snapping, “It isn’t.”
Porsche grinned. He was so easy to rile up. Hot tempered little thing, just like his brother, Kinn. Porsche wondered if it was a family trait, then dismissed the thought; Korn was always cold and calculating, always in control. Nothing like his sons.
“Alright, fine. What’s your deal?”
“I’ll tell you everything I know about my father’s business. There’s plenty to learn; ever since Kinn became the heir, he’s been grooming to take after him in case anything happens. I’ve been in all of his meetings. I know who he plans to fuck over and when—you included.”
Porsche leaned forward, his interest piqued. And more than ever, his suspicion grew.
“That sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?”
“I’m not giving you the information for free. You need to do something for me, first.”
“And what’s that? Kill your father?”
“No. My brother’s lover.”
“Interesting proposal.” Porsche watched the young man in front of him for a long time, schooling his features to ensure he gave nothing away. He wanted to make Kim sweat a little bit, see if he revealed anything else.
Kim waited. Not patiently, but he waited. He kept clenching and releasing his hands; an obvious tell, someone should have trained that out of him by now. Porsche still didn’t say anything, didn’t smile or jeer, not even when Kim’s nervous fidgeting became impossible to ignore.
Finally, Kim couldn’t take it anymore.
“Well?” he demanded.
“What has this person done to earn your ire, nong?” And why can’t you do it yourself?
“He’s a traitor. He’s selling my family’s secrets.”
“Exactly what you’re trying to do, now.”
“It’s different.” Kim looked away, his jaw clenched so tightly, it was a wonder his teeth didn’t shatter. “He’s going to get my brother killed. That’s another condition for the deal. You can’t hurt Kinn.”
Porsche swallowed a laugh. The kid was bold.
“Any other conditions you want to add?”
“Yes.” Amused, Porsche gestured for him to continue, “You kill Tawan. You don’t hurt my brother; not now, not ever. And…”
“And?”
“And you let me stay with you.” Porsche said nothing. The shock on his face was clear enough. “I’m already a traitor by being here. My father won’t let that go unpunished. If you can—” he swallowed, “protect me from him, then you can have me, and everything I know.”
“I can have you.” Again, that stubborn chin tilt. “And what would I do with you, Kim?”
“Whatever you want. Fuck me, torture me, forget about me, I don’t care. As long as you don’t let my father take me.”
“I don’t know. Pretty boys like you aren’t my type.” And that wasn’t even a lie. Porsche could look at Kim and see that he was objectively attractive, sure, and would be even prettier if he stopped making that mean face. That didn’t mean Porsche wanted him.
“Are you sure about that?” Kim took a step forward. The two guards flanking the entrance reached for their guns, but Porsche waved them off. Kim was unarmed. Porsche wasn’t. “A hole is a hole, right?” Another step. “Fucking me doens’t have to mean anything.” Another step, leaving him just in front of Porsche; one more and Kim would be between his legs. “You take care of me, I take care of you. Fair?”
“Seems like you’re getting more out of this deal than I am. You haven’t even given me anything to make me believe this isn’t a set up. How do I know your ass is worth it?”
“Find out,” Kim challenged, so brazen that Porsche had to laugh.
“I don’t think so.” Let Kim get him alone, naked and defenseless? No. For all Porsche knew, this was still a trap. The boy certainly made for an attractive honey pot. “Tell you what, you let me sample the goods, and I’ll take care of your brother’s boy problem. Then we’ll see about those family secrets.”
“Fine.” Kim began to lift up his shirt, but Porsche stopped him.
“On your knees. Show me what that mouth of yours can do.”
Kim gave him a dirty look, like the prospect of sucking Porsche off was worse than fucking him. But he obeyed. He closed the scant space left between them, dropped to his knees, and brought his hands to Porsche’s belt. He was pleased to note they didn’t shake; Kim was entirely confident as he worked Porsche’s pants open and pulled out his cock; soft in his hand, but quickly hardening with a few firm strokes.
Porsche expected Kim to balk. He expected Kim to reveal the ruse, or to come to his senses. Somehow, despite his dick filling Kim’s hand, he didn’t not expect it to then fill the boy’s mouth. But Kim was relentless. He didn’t play or tease. He wrapped his soft lips around the head of Porsche's dick and sucked, hard, his slender fingers squeezing around the base.
It felt good. Kim was right; a hole was a hole. One willing mouth was no different than any other.
Laying a hand on the back of Kim’s head, Porsche guided him lower, pushing with gentle pressure that he could have resisted, if he wanted to. Instead Kim accepted the guidance, let Porsche sink deeper into his mouth, until the head brushed the back of his throat and he gagged. He reeled back with a violent cough, saliva dripping down his chin already.
“Aw, is this your first time?” Porsche didn’t mean to mock him, truly. But whether he meant to or not, that’s how it sounded, and Kim looked up at him like he wanted to bite him.
“No,” Kim snapped, and just like that, he was back, sinking down over Porsche’s cock while digging his nails into his thighs. He set a steady pace, working himself over Porsche’s length, choking every time it battered the back of his throat until he could swallow it down and bury his nose against Porsche’s pelvis.
Kim was a sight to behold; his eyes big and bright, tears dampening his long lashes and dripping down his cheeks, his lips red and swollen around Porsche’s cock as he took it down his throat. He swallowed, pulling a groan out of Porsche. Emboldened by the first sign Porsche was—begrudgingly—enjoying himself, Kim hollowed his cheeks and ran his tongue along the underside of Porsche’s dick as he pulled off, only to swallow him again, and again, and again. He still choked every time, but the spasms only meant he squeezed Porsche tighter, pulling more sounds of pleasure out of him.
When Porsche finally came, Kim jerked back at the first spurt of come on his tongue, letting the rest of it splash across his face.
Panting to catch his breath, one eye closed against the come dripping down his brow, Kim looked up at Porsche from his place on the ground and demanded with a hoarse voice, “Well?”
This kid doesn’t give up, Porsche thought. He tucked himself back into his pants and nodded to his guards to come and take the boy away.
“Wait, wait!” The two men hauled Kim up to his feet. “Do we have a deal?”
“Sure, kid. Clean yourself up, we can work something out later.”
For the first time all evening, Kim relaxed. Not entirely, Porsche could still see sharp lines of tension in his body. But there was a slump to his shoulders that hadn’t been there when he came in, his eyes going soft and downturned. Relieved. He let himself be led away.

Hello. I'm back with my Macau bullshit. This time: the difference between his relationship with Pete and his relationship with Porsche (because if I don't scream about Pete and Porsche and the parallels between them, I can't function as a human being apparently.) Ok so, first things first. I am aware that I may be comparing apples and oranges here. Besides the fact that they're both bodyguards of the main family and very close to Kinn, there's not really anything else tying them together in regards to their relationship with Macau. But here's the thing. That's what I care about. What circumstances make Macau act like the devilish little gremlin that he is VS the compliant and polite son of the minor family. And my boys are perfect for the job. (The post will be split into 2 parts because I guess I had a LOT to say about Porsche and Macau so, Pete and Macau will be explored in another one)
Ok. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we did NOT get enough Macau in the show. He had like, what, 5 scenes total? HOWEVER, the scenes we got were spectacular for a gazillion reasons but I'll choose to focus on a specific aspect of them for this post: Most, if not all of his scenes, were either from Porsche's or Pete's POV. And that's giving us a lot. Let's start with Porsche. He - and the audience, remember, most of this show is through Porsche's POV so that's important - meets Macau like he actually is; a typical teenager. He's moody, rude and doesn't want to deal with Porsche's bullshit. (Although, one could argue he was extra antsy because they were at the main family's house, which I choose to believe due to how the minor family is treated by their relatives.) Their first scene, accompanied by the scene in which he goes to Gun and calls Porsche out in front of everyone is Macau being sincere. It actually is him, and it's tragic as well as amazing how he's never himself again in front of Porsche for the rest of the show. Because the next time we see Macau with Porsche, it's in ep 7, when Vegas has his plans with Porsche to execute and Macau has to follow along. BUT, Porsche gets to have a glimpse of the real Macau in this exchange:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Vegas' smile is KILLING me OMG, he loves his brother SO MUCH, I'M CHEWING GLASS AS WE SPEAK-) Porsche never gets to see Macau's actual face in this (maybe a glimpse from above but with difficulty) but his voice betrays his happiness at seeing his brother and from the answer he gives. Aaaall of that fades away when the bodyguards sit down. Macau turns quiet and polite, keeping appearances because they have guests, and we have him welcoming all of them, and Porsche, like this:
Tumblr media
The show knows we the audience - and Porsche - remember what has happened between the two, so Macau saying "Hello" to Porsche carries significance here. GOD, I wish I could make gifs because, after that, after the camera stops focusing on Macau's face, you get him blurred in the background and the boy is SO uncomfortable by what's happening. His eyes dart left and right, mostly at Pete and Arm's direction - he fucking HEARS Arm's comment about "no surprise that the heirs of this family turn out like this" and he SIGHS and looks downward and he STARES at Vegas' direction when he spews his bullshit about how the minor family treats their bodyguards. My boy is PRESENT in the discussion and he hates every second of it. Isn't it spectacular then, how the next scene between him and Porsche, is the one in which Macau apologizes? I love the fact that he calls him Phi. It's so good, because in my eyes Porsche doesn't even deserve it. He never apologized for what he did to Macau. He did, to Vegas, but not to Macau himself. So, the respect Macau shows to him is so fake I could cry from laughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He finds him trying to get on Vegas' motorcycle and touches him and urges him to ride it. "I know you like motorcycles," he says, like that's a normal thing to know and not something Vegas told him to say because VEGAS is the one who knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm dying over here, truly. Macau is amazing and it hurts as much as it's funny, because Macau must be feeling so bad here imo. He's not an idiot, he knows Porsche was in the wrong and Vegas knows as well because LOOK AT HIS FUCKING FACE AS MACAU SAID THE THING:
Tumblr media
This isn't a strict face, one that's like "that fucking kid, finally he learned how to apologize". This is a "the things I do for my plans to work" kind of face. Vegas used Macau here. And I'm convinced that he hated every second of witnessing this scene in front of him.
Tumblr media
Also, I love how Macau is touchy with Porsche. Macau does show affection through touch, just like his brother does. It's evident by the hospital scene with Pete and the scene above with Vegas when they talked + the scene in ep 2, in which he stretched his arm in Vegas' direction. But, just like Vegas, he uses that in his advantage to get what he wants here. What Vegas wants from him to get, which is, Porsche's trust. And, if any audience member actually believed for even a second that Macau was sincere here, then comes this to show them that NOPE, the boy doesn't believe his words in the slightest:
Tumblr media
It's easier to see in motion but Macau's shy grin as he sees Vegas in front of him, shows you everything you need to know about the sincerity of his words. And even if THAT wasn't enough, you have Vegas confirming your suspicions with his words:
Tumblr media
Oh, Vegas, you scheming bastard. You wanted your plan to work so badly, you used even Macau for it. I wonder if that kept you up at night. This whole scene was so...Vegas coded? It felt like Macau adapted Vegas' methods of seduction with Porsche here, didn't it? Actual Macau would never do any of that and it's incredible how Porsche only saw that version of Macau after ep 2. It makes you wonder; what did Porsche see and hear from Macau during that one-month period before the show finale, a period of time in which Vegas was fighting for his life + Porsche had just gained Vegas' right as the heir of the minor family? How was Macau's behavior then? I really wish we got to know, because Macau showing his true self to Porsche again due to circumstance is very appealing to me. Porsche&Macau in general is a relationship dynamic I haven't seen people talk about at all, which is strange due to their canonical scenes. Oh well. Another excuse to write essay long posts on Tumblr, I guess.

Kim's Place in the Mafia: Novel vs Show
The one thing I can say without a doubt in my mind is that from the crumbs we get of Kim and Chay from the book and show, these two are obsessively in love with each other. So I'll say that now and get that squared away.
And I know, most of the fandom detest the book due to its problematic authors and will never read it, and that's completely valid. Furthermore, I will say now that the book is trash and hardly coherent at times. But as my favorite English scholar for Ancient Rome, Mary Beard, once said: "It's trash...but it's very valuable trash."
For what it's worth, reading the book at least once can provide a more nuanced understanding of why the showrunners made the changes they did in the show. The changes in and of themselves makes for a more cohesive story (SOO MUCH MORE COHESIVE), but it also goes without saying that a lot of the events in the show remain faithful to the novel, so in that regard, there is some merit to be had.
Finally, when I say the novel is "trash", I mean the narrative itself, not necessarily the translation (although it's not perfect by any means). If anything, I'm grateful for the translators who took the time to translate this novel into English, since translation is a thankless job most times in fandom (lookin' at you, MDZS). As I speak no Thai whatsoever, I can’t give an informed opinion on DAEMI's technical writing abilities, since I'm not a native speaker, nor am I the book's target audience.
But, I digress.
The more I reread the book (in all its trash glory), the more I find myself questioning Kim's views in regards to how he sees himself as part of a mafia family. 🤔
In the book, Kim is a lot more accepting of his place within the mafia, despite his initial tendencies of disappearing on his guards and staying away from the main house. In fact, that pretty much changes once Chay enters the picture.
Tumblr media
Gotta love a Kinn who's curious about his little bro's love life. XD
Kim is firmly settled into the fold of the family business (if that scene in the secret warehouse is anything to go by) and there’s a scene in the beginning of the book where Korn obligates all 3 sons to dress up in some fancy suits and visit their chocolate factory, since he’s particularly keen on getting it off the ground. This shows that although Kinn is set to inherit (in public, at least) the other two sons still have their duties to the family.
In fact, I will say that one of the most interesting things about reading the book is finding out that Kim's sleuthing is actually canon. Lol Granted, it's sleuthing more in regards to finding the mole and not really about Korn's game plan, but sleuthing nonetheless.
But in the show, his role within the family business and how he views it are a little bit more foggy because he has his musical career to keep him occupied, besides his sleuthing into Korn’s affairs. He’s not active in the way one would typically expect a member of the mafia to be (and who knows, this may be due to limited time constraints on the part of the showrunners), but he’s active within that sphere nonetheless.
And because of this, contrary to the general fandom consensus, I never really got the impression that Kim wanted to be out of the mafia, yknow? Personally, I think it’s too big of a leap to say him moving out = him not wanting to be in the mafia. Having that sort of character motivation wouldn't really make sense either, because then we would have had stronger hints of it, I think?
At the very least, by the end of the show, Kim--just like Chay--has more reasons to stay than not. The way I see it, Kim wanting to be out of the mafia would actually somewhat contradict his actions in the show.
Despite his effort in staying away from the mansion his father and brothers live in (and later on, Chay), Kim benefits from being a Theerapanyakul. We see this in a lot of different ways: the penthouse he lives in, the cars he drives (he gets his own set of the Maserati fleet, yo), his private studio, the freedom of movement he has in being able to easily get information (although this may be debatable), using Big as a gopher.
I highly doubt his career as a young musician is maintaining his luxurious lifestyle (perhaps only a part of it, like the fame); imo, there’s a calculated reason why BOC chose to keep the level of his fame as vague as possible. The way I see it, Kim moved out and pursued music simply because, due to his unique position of being the youngest son (aka the spare), he just had the luxury to do so.
If he truly wanted out of the mafia, I'm firmly on the camp that he could have done so already. We've seen in both the show and the book that unlike Kinn who's constrained by his duties, Kim does have the freedom to disappear, even to the point that it's to his detriment at times. Lol
Maybe I can go even further, and suggest that perhaps the reason he chose to move out is to get a better vantage point of the circumstances surrounding his father's schemes and the ongoing tides of power. Kinda like, he has to move away from the trees, in order to see the entire forest.
I wouldn't go so far as to say he wants power for himself (although this idea would be fun to entertain, especially within the context that he now has Chay in his life to protect), but again, being a member (a high-ranking one, at that) of the Theerapanyakul family benefits him in a lot of different ways.
In one of BOC's interviews and then in Jeff's goodbye message during the last KPWT, he mentioned something about Pond changing up Kim's character in order to make Jeff Satur shine. Idk about y'all, but that's quite a touching gesture, and one I definitely approve of, whilst I get a better understanding of the similarities and differences between novel!Kim and show!Kim. It's obvious from the show that besides changing Kim's maturity level and changing his image from a fuck boi to a cool prince, giving him a passion for music definitely humanized him and served as a way to balance out the other two love stories.
But be that as it may, although we the audience don't know as to what extent Pond changed Kim's character to better fit the story, at the very least maintaining Kim's position as a legitimate contender in the politics of the mafia world remains consistent in both the book and show.
Whether that observation lines up with the idea that he wants out of the mafia though, is entirely up to you. XD

One of the things I feel like KinnPorsche the Series does so well that not enough people talk about is giving its queer viewers a story that's shelter from societal homophobia.
I want to emphasize that this is not the same as telling a story in which people live in an idealized world where homophobia doesn't exist.
I've seen a few people mention that characters or couples dealing with homophobia is often not a part of Thai BL. I really appreciate that as a queer person who consumes media.
But KinnPorsche does something slightly different.
It's not that homophobia doesn't exist in the world of KinnPorsche. We know it does, with the snide remark about gelato Don made to Kinn in episode 1, in the way that Porsche-sans-gaydar told off Big for being close minded with Kinn beaming out of sight, in the way Porsche was bashful about revealing to his work/adopted mother his self-realization of bisexuality through falling in love with Kinn and Yok specifically affirming that love is love, with the way Porsche felt a moment of self consciousness holding his boyfriend's hand in public on the date he planned.
We know homophobia exists in the periphery of the world Kinn and Porsche and all these characters live in. But what the narrative chose to tell us instead is: we are not going to let that affect the way we show how these people fall in love and love each other.
It's not an idealized version of the world where homophobia doesn't exist; sadly I don't think we'll get there in my lifetime. But I'm also sick of stories like that. That has the same teeth as "it's not a gay love story, it's a love story about two people."
Well fuck that. These characters are queer and I'm here because I'm queer, and I want a queer love story. And sometimes that means the shadow of societal homophobia looming in the background.
What's beautiful about KinnPorsche is that it says in response to that: these characters are queer characters. They don't "just happen" to love someone of the same gender.
But in this story, you get to see them love without the shadow of what haunts queer people in real life. You don't have to be worried, we'll protect you from that. And that is something I haven't gotten from another queer media before.
So when queer people say they feel loved back by the KPTS production, I think that's often what they mean without quite being able to put their finger on it. It's acknowledging the weight of our reality without forcing us to once again bear it alongside the characters. And how much more loving can a story be than that?

kinn being a cheater
Kinn is a horny bastard that have tasted half of the bangkok gay population before Porsche but he is a romantic at heart and he loves deeply which is why the betrayal from Tawan cut him so bad and took him so long to move on to the point that he had to resort to escorts because he doesn't want to get his heartbroken and go through the pains of another relationship. So him finally getting together with Porsche after all the shit they go through together makes their relationship even more precious to him.
Kinn loves and adores Porsche to his core, and we have seen this again and again from taking a bullet for him in the forest to him moving out of the compound with Porsche. He worships the ground Porsche walks on. And he is smart enough to know how to value someone.
Also, people keep forgetting how he was groveling at Porsche when he got home and saw that he was angry with him. He didn't even know what he had done but man was already about to cry 🤣
And remember after their confession at the bathroom, the following day Kinn was already like "should we announce????? 🥰🥰🥰" he was gone gone and I bet he was already planning their wedding that day hahahaha
So making him cheat on Porsche with another bodyguard or whoever doesn't make sense to me. never has, never will. 🙅‍♀️
so for a hot second i forgot about the tea asks thing and only saw the first line of this and i was immediately puffed up like "THE FUCK YOU SAYING ABOUT MY BOY?!?!" 😂😂 so HARD AGREE ANON lol. i personally haven't read anything where Kinn cheats on Porsche, so cheers to that, but Kinn is just. so ready to be a boyfriend. he literally refuses to kiss people because he has a soft heart he yearns to give no matter how many stupid apple knife talks his father gives him or how dangerous it is for someone like him to love. and then when Kinn gives it anyways, he wants everyone to see he gave it to Porsche, because he is in LOVE and SO HAPPY about it. he is the cutest person, i adore him and his big soft heart so much 😭❤❤

Hey! I've been trying to ask you this forever, but I keep forgetting because I'm so busy. Is there anything you headcanon about Vegas that annoys Pete and vice versa? Little things that they discover about each other when living together. Maybe even because of differences in social class. Also, is it true that Macau is planning to go to medical school?
and I've been meaning to answer this forever so I think we're even
in answer to your question: oh for sure there are things that annoy them about each other! I mean I'm pretty much of the opinion that any couple (or, honestly, any pair of people in any relationship) is going to discover things that annoy or frustrate them about each other. it's part of being two people who are different and not constantly in sync. that's relationships mate
when it comes to what those things are with these two...some of them are definitely class oriented, specifically I think with respect to the disparity between Vegas and Pete and Vegas's casual indifference to money as an unlimited resource vs. Pete's much more acute awareness of limitations and costs. and while that's not so much annoying, what is is the behaviors that result - Pete gets really uncomfortable with Vegas spending lavishly to spoil him, for instance, which annoys Vegas because he's just trying to do something nice, why doesn't Pete appreciate it >:(
meanwhile Pete gets annoyed sometimes by Vegas's massive entitlement complex and general expectation that he'll get what he wants on a micro if not macro level (which I think he does - he doesn't expect his father's love and approval or to beat out Kinn at anything but he will get that motorcycle he wants, if you understand me). and then there is Vegas's casual condescension to people who aren't on his level, in particular I think to other bodyguards, including people who are Pete's friends. Vegas makes some snide remark about how the main family bodyguards get their personalities removed when they're hired and Pete is like. "oh cool you know that's me and my friends right"
then there's I think the whole thing that happens sometimes where Vegas's temper gets set off and he gets mean, and then Pete reacts in the way that he's used to reacting to that from previous employers, namely by retreating into his :) smile and basically being friendly-nonthreatening-harmless, and that just makes Vegas angrier, for, like, six different reasons, among which are (1) reminder of how their relationship started out, which he doesn't like to think about, (2) the sense that Pete is reacting to him as an employer and not a boyfriend, (3) the knowledge that he's just hurt Pete and that pisses him off too, but in a way where he's still pissed off at Pete, (4) the frustration of not getting a reaction/response.
and it's not like Pete's happy about this either. I think it drives him even more nuts though when Vegas afterwards retreats into a self-pity and self-loathing hole and Pete has to drag him out of it. I think in general when Vegas gets really up in his own head sometimes Pete gets frustrated because come on, can't he just move on and never think about his feelings and issues and pretend they're not there? it works for Pete.
(it doesn't work for Pete. Vegas also recognizes this and wants Pete to recognize this, and it is frustrating when he doesn't. in general I think Pete's resistance to, like, confronting his feelings is something that drives Vegas a little nuts. they have an argument, Vegas says something nasty, Pete's obviously hurt by it, later on Vegas apologizes and Pete's like "oh it's fine :)" because he just wants to move on and not think about it anymore (and also probably has legitimately decided to do that, on purpose) and Vegas is like. "NO IT ISN'T, IT IS NOT FINE, DON'T DO THAT" which just makes Pete even more double down on the "it's fine :)" and. that one post about how in order to get Pete to talk about his feelings you have to catch him in very specific very fast vulnerable moments before he can turn it around into being about someone else. Vegas knows he's doing it, but can't figure out how to get him to stop. yeah. they're doing great.)
anyway all of this to say that they love each other very much and also drive each other up the wall in a variety of ways and that's what makes it so fun. they'll figure it out. or they won't exactly but they'll not figure it out in a way that's fun and spicy and keeps both of them alive/not destroying other peoples' lives. it's for the best.

turn this knife the blunt way around
happy belated birthday, @kimchaybrainrot!💛 you're lovely and deserve all the treats! i tried to write fluffy soft things but failed spectacularly because angst and i are besties. i promise there is some sweetness at the end.
here is some post-canon kim + kimchay:
- - -
Kim is not surprised when Porsche shows up and enters the café exactly when Kim is wrapping up his set. Kim has ignored calls and messages from Kinn, Tankhun and the Unknown caller. So he signs a few autographs, takes selfies with fans and lets his manager tell them that Wik is very busy and needs to go. Porsche meanwhile orders a caramel macchiato for himself and his bodyguard and waits until Kim packs away his equipment.
"Khun Kittisawat," Kim finally says loud enough to annoy Porsche's security guard, who is holding his drink as he has never seen coffee before.
"I know you helped Chay at the warehouse and at Yok's," Porsche says, ignoring pleasantries, making it sound like an accusation, "but you have to leave my brother alone."
Porsche has taken well to his new role. He manages to sound steely, not heated, like someone in charge of the situation, and he doesn't have to add any threats. It's an order, even if Porsche has no hierarchical power over Kim. Porsche doesn't know that Kinn is just a placeholder for Kim.
"Okay," Kim says, with his perfected poker face and neutral tone. He can tell from how Porsche squints and grips his macchiato that Porsche had expected some resistance.
"Okay," he finally nods, sips his drink and turns to leave. Kim picks up his guitar and waits for Porsche to take a few more steps.
"Porsche," he says because there is a good reason why Kim has trailed Chay for a few months now. Kim has killed at least seven people that wanted to get their hands on the precious innocent baby brother of the minor family's new leader. "Chay's bodyguards are horrible."
Porsche freezes. There are still people around them, some of Wik's fans lingering around, as well as regular customers, so they cannot talk openly. Kim knows that's why Porsche had chosen the location, but it's funny to see him regret that choice now. Porsche opens and closes his mouth, quickly figuring out Kim's words' meaning.
Kim leaves.
- - -
It's not surprising that Chay barely gets to leave the compound afterwards. And when he does, his security detail matches one of Kinn's and Porsche's combined.
"He hates it," Pok says, sliding a photo over Kim's desk. And yes, Chay looks miserable in the image; he looks small in his soft hoodie and loose jeans. Kim knows how it feels to be surrounded by all these suited men and still feel isolated and lonely.
Kim hates how thinking it's for the greater good, his own safety doesn't chip away at the guilt he feels knowing it's his fault.
- - -
It's also not surprising that another few months later, Chay moves out. Just like Kim, Chay is not made for golden cages; there's only so much that your love for your brother(s) can balance out, and Chay has always been brave enough to go after what he wants.
Kim keeps his promise and stays away, he's too busy trying to keep Wik's career from exploding. He knows his father will end it if the fame draws too much attention to their family. The freedom Kim has is imaginary; it's just a leash made longer, long enough that sometimes Kim forgets it's there until he makes one step too far, and it chokes him viciously.
"Do you want me to keep following Khun Porchay?" Pok asks.
Kim thinks about his father's chess board, the pieces he moves around, and the plans he executes. He thinks about his father saying: "I will fake my death", "the minor family will attack", and "you have to protect Porsche's brother, I know what you've been doing with him". He thinks about Korn killing his own brother, Vegas and Macau being pushed away their whole lives only to be embraced when they are no longer needed on the board, and Chay's mother, drugged and unaware.
"No," he says because he is tired of being his father's son. He makes a choice and tells himself to be brave and be like Chay. "Leave him alone."
Pok nods and leaves quietly.
- - -
Kim buries himself in music because music loves him back.
- - -
"Your new album is so sweet," the boy says, and his voice shakes slightly as he smiles shyly, handing over the card to be signed. His older sister is recording their conversation with a cheeky grin on her face. Kim can imagine that this will be future blackmail material.
"Thank you," Kim smiles, "what's your name?"
"Rune," the boy says, still in awe, as Kim writes him a small, personalized note.
"I am glad you wrote some happier songs," the older sister says conversationally, unbothered that Kim is Wik, while Rune picks up his signed card like it's the greatest treasure. "All the sad ones Rune was playing for months made me a bit worried for you. He still gets teary-eyed about the Why Don't You Stay one."
Ah. Kim is saved from answering it because Rune is mortified and pulls his sister away, telling her to shut up, oh my god.
"Hi!" the girl that was next in the line waves at him with a big grin on her face. "I love your new album; it's very sweet!"
Kim smiles back.
- - -
Your new album is amazing, and we are so proud! We miss you.
Kim reads the message again and again; he swallows tears and thinks about the song he wrote weeks ago, about the tiny hints he left there, knowing that nobody but him would know. He didn't think that-
"Kim?" Kinn picks up right away. He sounds hopeful, and Kim realizes that their father is so wrong. The love has not made Kinn weaker; it has made him human.
"I miss you too," Kim says. He can hear Kinn smiling.
- - -
"I am disappointed," his father says, and Kim thinks nothing has ever made him feel more proud than Korn's disappointment. "Maybe I was wrong about you."
"Maybe," Kim says, and they both know he means, yes, yes, you were.
"I don't know what I did wrong," Korn says, defeated, in a rare moment of honesty, "how all three of you ended up like this."
Like this, he says. And he means stupid, weak and pathetic. He means, why would you pick anything over power, ambition, or being the victor? Why would you willingly lose a fight? Who would you do that for, and why?
"You wouldn't understand, father," Kim smiles, pushing Kinn's ring across the table, "after all, you killed your brother and locked up your sister."
He gets up and leaves, half expecting a bullet in his skull, but it never comes.
- - -
The knock on the door makes Kim jump. Only a few people know where he lives, and all the ones who do know to inform him before their arrival. Tankhun has started to show up unannounced, but Kim (now) knows that Wednesdays are shopping days; Tankhun has discovered the magic of shopping malls, and they are a lot shinier than Kim's apartment.
Kim finds the gun before heading for the door but puts it down when he looks at the security camera. He unlocks the door, suddenly very aware of his messy hair, worn shirt and mismatched socks that Kinn had gifted as a joke.
"Hi," Chay says.
Kim has not seen him for almost two years, so he files away the new haircut, a bit broader shoulders, a sharper face, but the same sweet smile and big, innocent eyes.
"Hi?" Kim answers, unsure because Chay's smile is short-lived, and he looks closer to tears.
"I know you loved me," Chay says, and he might as well kick Kim in the stomach, "I mean, I listened to your new album, I mean, sorry, it's none of my business, I should not say that, I just, well," he keeps talking, nervously shifting, looking anywhere but at Kim, "I need you."
Kim feels like someone dropped him in an ocean, leaving him to drown. There are waves of feelings crushing him, pushing him down to the seabed. I know you loved me. Apparently, Chay still knows how to flip Kim's world around. Kim moves before Chay can flee, opening the door wider and stepping aside.
"Come in," Kim says, his voice trembling funnily. And then, because he cannot help it at all, he asks, "You listened to my new album?"
"Of course," Chay says, and it reminds Kim of Tankhun's eye rolls.
Did you like it? Kim wants to ask, but he doesn't. He doesn't get to have this, and he won't be selfish if it hurts Chay, not anymore, and he's been doing good so far.
"Why do you need my help?" Kim asks instead as they walk to the living room. Chay sits on the sofa, back to looking like he is about to cry, but like crying is not a choice he is allowed to make, and it makes Kim's insides hurt. Chay needs to point, and Kim will aim his gun.
"It's about my mom," Chay explains, "I don't know how much you know, but-"
"I know everything," Kim says, and their knees brush as he sits down next to Chay. "I am sorry, I-"
"It's okay," Chay brushes it off quickly as if what Kim did is not a big deal. And Kim wonders if it isn't for Chay anymore. Maybe Chay has learned that there are worse things than stalking and using someone, maybe Chay is helping Porsche now and has done similar things, or maybe Chay has killed someone. Kim has no idea, and it's making him a bit dizzy.
"She remembers everything," Chay explains, and Kim doesn't say that he suspected that too. He looks at Chay's hands that are nervously moving around, wants to grab them and keep them still, but talks himself out of it. "She told me a while ago, she remembers that Uncle Korn killed dad, and wants to tell Porsche, but she's worried that Uncle Korn will... And I am so worried about her and Porsche, and I think Porsche maybe knows too, and something is about to happen, and I-"
"Do you want me to kill my father?" Kim asks carefully. He realizes that he would if Chay asked.
Chay looks horrified. "What? No, of course not!"
Kim is lost, has been lost since he opened the door. "So, what do you need me to help with?"
"I didn't say that," Chay says so quietly that Kim almost doesn't hear it. "I said I need you."
Oh.
And because Chay is the bravest one of them both, he climbs into Kim's lap, hugging him like he did the very first time, with everything he has, and bursts into tears.
"I don't know," he whimpers in Kim's neck, his tears mixing with Kim's, shaking as Kim holds him closer, "what I will do if Porsche dies. I don’t want to be alone anymore, Kim."
Kim wishes he could hide Chay inside the walls of his chest, away from everything, but nowhere is safe with his father alive.
"Shhh," he says instead, "it will be okay, you are not alone."
- - -
"Chay," Kim says hours later when it's getting dark in the apartment. They are still on the sofa, and Chay is half lying on top of Kim, cuddling like they used to, except Chay is quiet and looks defeated under the weight of the world.
"Mm?"
Kim takes a breath and tells himself he can do this. If Tankhun can go to the shopping mall and Kinn can choose Porsche over their father, Kim too can face his fears. "I want to apologize. I am sorry; I know I hurt you, and you didn't deserve any of it. I wish I could take it back."
Chay hums and looks up through the bangs that are half covering his eyes; there's a small smile on the corners of his lips, and Kim wants to press it there, make it stay, and never let anything make Chay sad again.
"I forgave you a long time ago," he says, "Porsche told me how silly Theerapanyakul siblings are. I am very proud you used words this time."
He's teasing Kim, and Kim can't decide between laughing or crying; he settles on neither, holds Chay closer, and moves his hand to stroke Chay's hair gently. He thinks fate is being funny, giving him something only after he learned to let it go.
"And you did write me fourteen love songs."
Kim laughs.
- - -
He returns early in the morning when the dawn settles over the city, a new morning ahead. Chay is still on the sofa, covered in blankets; he gets up when Kim enters the living room.
Kim puts down the gun on the coffee table. He knows he is still covered in sweat and smells like cigarettes that he shared with Porsche when Chay hugs him.
"It will be okay," Kim promises, and buries himself in Chay.
